“Ultimately, I believe that we should provide equal protection under the law for all unborn children,” Fairchild said. “I believe that science proves that life begins at conception, and the government has a responsibility to protect that life from conception until natural death.”
Oh, wow. That's quite a stand for a Republican. Obviously this means he supports extended pregnancy and parental leave and socialized healthcare and universal basic income and all that stuff, right? I mean, if the government has a responsibility to "protect" life from "conception until natural death," that's a big change from how we currently operate.
Let's see what else he's been up to in his 3 years in the Kansas legislature...
Hmm. That doesn't seem like it's super concerned with protecting life. What else?
That's kind of odd. I mean, if you're going to disallow certain types of medicine that have years of evidence of their effectiveness, sponsoring a bill to make sure drugs that don't have that evidence are more widely available certainly is A Choice.
Ultimately, of the 19 bills and resolutions he's signed on to sponsor, four of them have been anti-abortion actions. The rest are spread out across topics, though two of the four non-abortion resolutions are about legislative term limits (the other two are recognizing a Teacher of the Year and condemning the Oct 7th attacks).
I don't know why I bothered to begin doing this. We all know they don't care that they are hypocrites. I guess something about the ridiculousness of his statement combined with the GOP take on pretty much anything inspired me.
However, I did run across this in a bill that became law over Gov. Kelly's veto and just...what?
This is an ultrasound of a fetus at 9 weeks
There is zero chance of this fetus being born alive.
This is a 12 week ultrasound:
Again, this fetus is not going to survive birth. (Ultrasound images from here)
Fetal viability is a complex topic that I'm not going to go into, except to say that experts place the earliest viable gestation age around 22-24 weeks and, according to that Wikipedia article linked right there, the "lowest gestational age newborn to survive...was born on 5 July 2020 in the United States, at 21 weeks and 1 day gestational age, weighing 420 grams." So what the fuck are they even doing with that reporting requirement? I mean, we know what they are doing, but still. wtf.

Ngl I feel like a/llan would bring up Dr. monster again but for his ultrasound 😭
Dr Monster would for SURE be his go to OB! Like to think they're a jack of all trades, including general health care and parental resources (possibly even dentistry, who knows >.>) so it's a one stop shop basically🤣
Also, as he'd be way too curious (*cough*IMPATIENT*cough*) to wait, the gender reveal appointment would be booked ASAP!
And this just in....
Turns out it's a girl💖🎉
#mpreg#not kink#Papa Red❤️#This is where he realizes the weight of this endeavor#“Omg I'm actually having a baby...”#Al/lan’s not one to tear up on the fly#but actually SEEING that it’s real and not some mysterious ailment plaguing him#he can’t help but be in love#He’s a grouch sometimes but he’s got a soft heart🥺❤️#also I've never drawn an ultrasound image before so excuse how basic it looks :'D

As someone who has been going to a cardiologist their entire life I never really comprehended that being hooked up to an ekg might be a scary experience for most people until now
#like looking back on it it IS kind of freaky but like it’s kind of normal in my mind now#also the ultrasound machine on the heart… gross af feeling but just kind of cool to watch the image

things I love to see when I’m home alone at night…
[ID: Five copies of the same photo showing a doorway leading from a brightly lit kitchen to a dark entry hall. At the top of the doorway, the shape of a paper cut out of an alien head is just barely visible staring at the camera. Each photo zooms in closer to the alien face, until its black and empty eyes are the only thing that’s visible. End ID]
#it’s leftover decorations from a party#what kind of party makes use of alien streamers you may ask#a baby shower is the apparent answer#and I’m not even slightly joking#my brother and his wife had an x-files themed baby shower#and proudly showed off the ultrasound image where their baby looks like a freaky alien thing

There's a sign in the ultrasound room about not taking pictures of the ultrasound, followed by informing people who are there for Baby Related Ultrasound that they will get a Keepsake Image. I hadn't even considered that people were doing that, but in this age of cameras everywhere I wasn't surprised. I just thought it was understood that they would print a picture from the baby ultrasounds. I mean, they do it on tv.
But I was sitting there, not even slightly there for Baby Reasons, thinking "How rude. What if *I* want a keepsake image of what the inside of my body looks like?"
#I would have kept every xray and every ultrasound and every image taken by a camera shoved into my body if I could#I just find that shit fascinating#oh sure I could print out whatever example images are online but that's not the point I want *my* insides

well friends I have officially joined the Chronic Pain Club, it’s not great to be here, there’s a chance it’s only temporary but my gut says ‘hmm many doubts’ and I won’t really know for a couple of weeks anyway until my doctors appointment. So. Been navigating that for four days and well we’re navigating at least
#there’s some sort of apollo prophecy dodgeball meme joke here#re me being close to many people w/ chronic pain/illness and being a strong empath#and already using spoon theory periodically for the mental health shite#‘ha ha wow this is so useful I’m glad spoonies consider mental health strugglers part of this too!’ and then I need you to imagine#that very specific TUNK sound a dodgeball makes#those thoughts have been living in my brain this weekend. anyway#mark and di if you happen to see this. TUNK (the dodgeball sound)#maybe it’s more irony than prophecy but as I said the thoughts have been there#I went to urgent care then the er thurs night because I spent an entire workday and over 8 hrs in severe abd pain#and it started on the lower right side so of course worried about appendix/gallbladder/etc#urgent care said yeah go to the er cause no matter what you need diagnostic imaging#and they asked have you ever had ovarian cysts I said no but my mom has (there’s thoughts it can be genetic)#do an ultrasound and sure enough I’ve got em!#and doing some reading up after the fact ‘most are asymptomatic and go away on their own!’ I was like well fuck#I mean that’s great but I’ve already failed the requirements I had STRONG symptoms#ibuprofen didn’t do a thing for the pain. until yesterday the hydrocodone they prescribed was all that would#yesterday experimented with three ibuprofen and that does help thankfully#so yeah needless to say I’m not very optimistic this is a ‘goes away on it’s own’ kinda cyst#but my obgyn is really booked and even squeezing me in/getting me in sooner is two weeks away#which is okay I get it healthcare is a mess#but yeah that means chronic pain for the foreseeable future#¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it is what it is#we’re navigating at least that’s all I can ask for#very glad I have today off because it was a very eventful weekend and I need an additional rest day lmao#but started off with low spoons because didn’t sleep well + pain so we’ll see how today goes#Cassie rambles#chronic pain shite#I have the mental health shite tag. might as well start that one lmao /cries
