George and Ruby's outfits going into the 1890s represent the odd dichotomy of their new lives. On one hand, they live a relatively "simple" life on Ruby's father's farm, and are compelled to dress practically, in simple, sturdy clothes, in order to support a lifestyle of hard labor. On the other hand, they have Moses's consistent financial support - less so cash, more often in the form of lavish gifts, especially of expensive clothing. They often have multiple outfits for the same occasion, one more expensive, and one more practical.
George in particular has taken to Moses's habit of giving gifts. George finds the promise of wealth infinitely appealing, and although he hasn't yet obtained said wealth, Moses's expensive presents often make him feel as if he has. Because of this influence from his father-in-law, George's outfits have also trended more towards Moses's all-black color scheme, becoming darker in color and adding in more blues and jewel tones, to replace George's teenage greens and yellows. He dresses in Moses's gift-clothing whenever possible, only returning to more practical garments while working on the farm.
Ruby, on the other hand, seems discomforted by the expensive clothes her father throws at her. Her hunger for independence and identity tends to push her away from making use of his gifts, no matter how lovely. She does dress up when he asks her to, or when the situation arises, but otherwise Ruby favors sturdy, comfortable, practical clothing. Some of her outfits do retain her teenage greens and yellows, especially those given to her by Moses, but the majority of her clothes are in a soft, neutral color palette, made up of mostly creams and browns. Still, Ruby does have a taste for drama, and what she lacks in fashionable clothing, she makes up for in her variable, expressive hats, often covered in flowers or feathers.

1300s WOMEN - PART 1
I've been really enjoying the @kosmichippie Ultimate Decades Legacy video series over on YouTube. While the traditional decades challenge begins in the 1890s, the ultimate version has you travelling all the way back to 1300 to start. This has inspired me to create a series of CC collections and lookbooks, starting with century by century, then whittling down to era/decade as fashion cycles start turning over more quickly.
First up is the 1300s. I didn't think I'd be able to find many female hairstyles for this century, but I was pleasantly proven wrong. During this period unmarried women wore their hair freely, where as wives and widows were expected to wear their hair either up or cut and covered at all times. Part two will include veils and other headwear, so enjoy these more liberated styles for now. CC links under the cut.

Ultimate Decades Challenge Resources
Hi!
So I started playing the deacdes challenge for a hot minute and realised a lot of people have a hard time finding resources and cc about trying to play accurate historical playthrough. So I put together a Google doc with the most information I could find! I added two challenges I have found so far into this google doc and will keep adding more challenges!
I also now made it into a website! I also added way to give back feedback and ask questions you might have!

Stone Age Rules
Simple Living and off the grid always!
Eat plants and veggies raw
May Cook fish over fire May Cook meals with meat that you Hunt (hunting and foraging mod)
To call this challenge successful you will need to claim new territory and also have a child make it to adulthood. This is harder than it sounds…
Welcome to the Stone Age! This Era lasted from 30,000 B.C to about 3000 B.C. Prehistoric life was not easy with most cavemen never making it past their mid 30’s. On average prehistoric women gave birth to 8-10 children in their lifetime but that didn't mean every child survived to adulthood. Common causes of death for individuals in this era were;
Infection
Around 75% of deaths in the Paleolithic era were caused by infection, including diarrheal diseases that led to dehydration and starvation.
Bacterial poisoningPeople suffered from bacterial poisoning through food, water, and contact like kissing. Diseases that are now treatable with antibiotics were fatal during the Stone Age.
PlagueThe bacterium Yersinia pestis, which causes plague, has been killing people for at least 5,000 years. Some researchers believe that a new strain of plague may have caused the collapse of large Stone Age settlements in Europe.
MalariaMalaria was a common infectious disease during the Stone Age, caused by mosquitoes.
TuberculosisTuberculosis was another common infectious disease during the Stone Age.
PredatorsEarly humans were preyed upon by large carnivores like sabre-tooth cats, giant baboons, cave hyenas, prehistoric bears, and leopards.
ViolenceEvidence of violence in the Stone Age includes a massacre where one man had an obsidian blade fragment stuck in his skull, and another man had his skull crushed with a blunt instrument. Bones from across Europe also suggest Stone Age ritual killings.
Stone Age Life Expectancy - 30-40 years old
Infant Mortality 30%
Before Puberty 50%
Childbirth 2%
Adulthood 20%
Elder 0%
Reasons to Roll
Sims Aging Up & Childbirth.
Everytime your sim ages up or gives birth to a new child you have to roll a D20 to see if they live or die. Below is a chart that will tell you what numbers rolled with a D20 cause the sim to die.
Death Roll
Tumblr media
Sick Emote (Slice of Life)
If your caveman becomes sick you must roll to see if it is the plague, malaria, or tuberculosis.
If it was a plague then there is a 75% chance of death.
Roll a D12. If you roll a 1, 6, or 12 you live.
If it was malaria, or tuberculosis you have a 50% chance of death.
Roll a dice. Odds you die, Evens you live.
If it was the common cold you have a 25% chance of death.
Roll a D4. If you roll a 1 you die. Any other number you live but you must have your sim rest for a full day where they can do no other activities. And drink plenty of fluids.
Kissing
Bacterial infections from intimacy were common in this age. So if you see your sims getting it on you must roll.
Roll a D10. If you roll a 1 your sim receives a bacterial infection and they pass away. You pick which sim passes from the couple.
Hunting
If your sim is going out to hunt (using the Hunting and Foraging Mod) you must roll to see if they make it back from their hunt.
Roll a D20. If you roll a 1, 4, 16, or 20. They die.
Fights
If you see 2 sims fighting you have to roll to see if the losing sim gets a serious injury from their battle and dies from infection.
Roll a D20. If your sim rolls a 10 they get an infection and die.
Getting Started
Start in Sulani on the lot closest to the volcano. Make sure lot challenges, volcanic activity, quake zone, simple living, and off-the-grid are on.
If you do not have Island Living, Oasis Springs is another good option. But you can use whatever world you prefer. Just make sure you start in a small lot with a challenge to it that makes it a starter territory that you will someday move from.
If you have MC Command center you can choose to turn bills off since cavemen don’t pay lot tax’s…
FIRE!!!
First thing you must do is discover fire! This is what separates cavemen from beasts! Be sure to place a firepit down and cook yourself your first meal.
If you have Island Living you can also use the BBQ Pit to make your food.
Finding a mate
Mates don’t have to be the same individual every time. It’s actually best to spread your genetics around. But if you are a male and get a female pregnant outside of your household they don’t count towards your goal of having a child survive to adulthood. Only your current household children count. But bonus kids are still good to have. You can choose to switch up your mate if you find a better match. So you can move an old mate out if you find a stronger mate. Or get a new mate if your old one dies.
Build Your Skills
Fitness
If you want to stand a chance at surviving you'll want to build your skills. Fitness is vital as it will help you with your endurance in hunting and for defending your territory or claiming others.
Creativity
But life as a caveman doesn't all have to be work. Be sure to build your creativity. Painting is a great option for this. Along with carving wooden sculptures. Some cave people also enjoy plucking strings on a wooden box.
If you have city living you can also paint large murals on the floor and wall.
Foraging / Gardening
Understanding what's safe to eat and what's not is vital to your survival. So make sure you get comfortable exploring your local plants and do be afraid to get your opposable thumbs dirty!
If you have Littlbowbub’s Hunting and Foraging mod you can actually build a foraging skill by clicking the sign post that comes with the mod.
Fishing
With your trusty tool (a stick with a string) you concur the water by learning how to fish for food. Whatever you dont eat you could always sell or trade to other cavemen.
Man's Best Friend
Sometimes it's a little lonely on top so why not let a four legged beast serve as your companion? To domesticate an animal you must find a wild (stray) animal and reach good friend status before adding them to your family.
Building A Tribe
Survival is hard if you're trying to do it alone. Best to group up. Go forth and find that special someone to share a cozy cave with and get busy! You'll need to start spreading your superior genetic code all over. The more children you have the better chance your legacy will live on. Most cave women had between 8-10 children in their lifetime. But not all made it to adulthood.
Try to build a tribe of 8 or more (if you have MC Command Center) individuals. Your goal is to see at least one, if not more, of your children make it to adulthood and successfully start their own family. Ensuring your line will live on.
Expanding Your Territory
Things starting to feel a little cramped? Tired of dealing with frequent volcanic eruptions and quaking earth? Time to set out and claim your own territory. Start by locating a piece of land you like. Second, you will need to chase away anyone living in that area. To do so you will need to fight all individuals (of fighting age) and win those fights. After defeating your foes the land is yours. Marking your territory also helps get the message across…
Golden Elder
If you have a caveman reach adulthood with at least 5 skills filled you have reached golden elder status! Congrats.
Feel free to share how you did!!!

All You Want To Know And More
Why, hello there! Glad you made it to my corner of the internet.
This blog is meant to chronicle my most recent playthrough of Morbid Gamer’s Ultimate Decades Challenge, following a family of sims for many generations from the 1300s onwards. I started my first playthrough sometime in the first half of 2023 and had got to the end of the 15th century before the urge struck me to start another one in a more medieval world.
This is the challenge you’ll be seeing on this blog. More infos under the cut.
A note on my posting habits: I have a queue that puts out one post per day. Initially, I wanted to refill that queue after every five years played, but I'll probably switch that to after every year played so it isn't so much work at once.
I am also currently playing a supernatural 1800s UDC over at my side blog @moonlightfallsdiaries
Current Households:
Townsend Branches | Junior Branches (spoilers if you aren't caught up, obviously)
Family Tree (spoilers up to 1333)
Navigation:
Introducing the Challenge
Gen 0: Benedict & Anne Townsend | 1300 | 1305 | Recap 1300 - 1309
Gen 1: Benjamin & Malika Townsend | 1312 | Recap 1310 - 1319 | 1325 | Recap 1320 - 1329
Gen 2: Malcolm & Hawise Townsend | 1330
Links:
Morbid Gamer’s Ultimate Decades Challenge
Plumbob’s and the Past’s UDC
My Mods and CC
If anyone is interested, I could upload my spread sheet as well, but I currently don't have it online.
Some technical details
I’ll be playing this challenge in The Sims 3, which means no Ye Olde Cookbook, Royalty Mod, Simple Living Lot Trait or the like, but I’ve heavily modded my game to achieve a more immersive gameplay.  This challenge will start – but likely not remain in -  the gorgeous custom world of Praaven, which is both medieval and completely roadless.
A link to a post with the mods I use can be found above.
This challenge will be more historically inspired than historically authentic, both because the game has its limitations and because my scant historical expertise lies more in the early 20th century.
For the most part, I’ll be following the rules defined by Morbid Gamer, with some deviations:
I’ll take some inspiration from Plumbobs and the Past’s ideas to make the challenge a bit more interesting. For example, when my sims go fishing, I’ll have them pay a fee, I’ll deduct 10% of the proceeds for whatever they harvest or sell from household funds, I will use PATP's dowry rules, and probably more.
Instead of starting with three teenagers, I decided to start with two young adults that have already been married for a bit and have two children and a toddler. I had a bit of a story in mind involving the proverbial lady of the house and the local Earl, so I wanted to jump right into the action.
As Sims 3 has no option to plead with the Grim Reaper (although you can play a match of chess with him or be saved by your pet, but you would have to have a pet that likes you for that to work, or both a chess table and enough skill points) I substitute that action with rolling a d4 when a Sim I’d like to live rolls to die. If it’s a 4, they survive.
Since I think it’s boring if most sims (barring historical events) die at exactly 6/13/20/30, I’ll sometimes roll a die to see how many years of life a sim has left. Those years can never be more than the sim would have to live until the next life stage. If, for example, a sim fails their young adult roll, I’ll roll a d10. 10 means the sim dies immediately, 5 means they live to be 25, etc. A teenager or a child, accordingly, can only roll a d7.
Illegitimate children are not automatically out of the running, they just rank after all their legitimate siblings in the succession. So it's legitimate sons, then legitimate daughters, then illegitimate sons, then illegitimate daughters, and after that the nearest-related side household. Rule may be taken liberty with as is dramatically convenient.
For the most part, no re-marriages for side households. The heir, however, can and will remarry as necessary.
I’ll be starting with a family of farmers, the Townsends, but just for the fun of it, I’ll also be rolling for the two resident noble families, that of the Earl of Petersmarch, who resides in the city of Praaven, and that of Baron Elbenhawke, whose family seat is in the hills just above the Townsend’s village. As they are not even proper side households, I’ll only mention the nobles’ fates on the side, mostly as a little info text at the end or mentioned in the story as relevant.
Honestly, I’m just curious about how long their lines will last.
I've taken some heavy inspiration for the layout of this info page from @lilabella12, whose wonderful Decades Challenge you should really go check out.
Trigger Warnings:
Death (even of children, toddlers and infants) due to a plethora of causes
War
Epi- and pandemics,
Maternal death
Stillbirths
Likely at least mentions of miscarriages
Mentions or depictions of various substance abuses
References to sexual assault/coercion
Religion
Adultery
The sims featured in this likely often just won’t have a good time

I am currently playing Morbid Gamer's Ultimate Decades Challenge! At this time, we are in the 1330s! I have given this LP a supernatural spin with real life event parallels, so I'd like to consider it "history adjacent." I really like telling stories and making up reasons for why my sims act the way they do, so if you like semi-narrative simming, perhaps you'd like my videos!
please refer to this list triggers.
Below the cut are a few of the mods + death wheels I use, mostly found in Morbid's discord server! I will do my best to reblog as many bits of great CC that I find, but feel free to ask if there is anything specific you're looking for!

Ultimate Decades Challenge Masterpost
Hello everyone who's interested!
I started the ultimate decades challenge in august 2023 and this is my way to share the stories of my sims and their families. Sadly I lost my savefile in December but I wanted to start over for some time. It took me a while to get all my mods back together, sorry for the long wait!
I'm currently playing the Norwood family, read down below if you want an overview of the current households.
Ultimate Decades Challenge ⭐ Navigation ⭐

‼️ TRIGGER WARNING ‼️ death / death in childbirth / general loss of life / war / bodies / violence / blood / rape / abortion / depression / anxiety / underaged marriage
quick info - my last ultimate decades challenge [Atwood legacy up until year 1349] is now 'private', you won't see those posts here anymore just to make tagging/searching easier. Also remade the masterpost!
Also, here's some other stuff I post.
Superextended Not-So-Berry Challenge
Rags to Riches / Jill's Life in Henford-on-Bagley [ ‼️ NEW ‼️ ]
reblogs & reposts [my own and other peoples cc, some random challenges]]
If you're interested, please read the rules in this document
Just a qick note on the rules of the challenge. After every completed life stage, you have to roll a d20 to see if your sims survives to the next stage. It seems the d20 hates my guts, so my current family is living in misery. Take this as a trigger warning, there are a LOT of deaths in this playthrough! I'm trying to integrate them into my storytelling.
Also please remember that this is a game and so it's not historically accurate. I try my best to integrate real history, but sometimes it just falls short.
Down below you will find a few notes on what rules I changed to fit my playstyle as well as my current households (I will try to update them according to the posts). If you're interested in trying this youself I would love to follow you, because I really enjoy reading about the stories other players create with this challenge. If you want to follow my story, please use the archive to navigate the different decades.
I play most of the rules exactly as they're set with a few exceptions:
The sidehouseholds are also not allowed to "Try for baby". I use the same pregnancy percentage for them, too, but since generation 3 I changed the way the "baby tries" work since I rolled some really low numbers. Each conceived child now counts as a "try".
If a sim remarries after their spouse dies, the baby tries are not reset.
I don't roll for marriage for my side households when they age up to a teen but when they age up to a child. This is also for storytelling as I tend to work towards their adulthood and interests when they're still children.
I do age up / event rolls on the start of each year just to work towards them in the story.
I may only plead for a sim ONCE in their lifetime. For infants / babies I allow myself ONE reroll per generation.
This list may change and/or expand in the future.
My current households:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daniel Norwood - Founder Generation 2
Annabeth Norwood - Wife of Daniel
Ian Norwood - Son of Finnian & Emma

Evan Norwood - Son of William and Eva, remarried
Valeria Norwood - Second wife of Evan
Flora Norwood - Daughter of Evan & Rayla

Elaine McCairn, Daughter of Lea McCairn & Leonard Dayle [affair]
Richard McCairn - Son of Jayden & Tara, orphan
William McCairn - Son of Jayden & Tara, orphan
You can refer to my spreadsheet to see relations, but HEAVY spoiler warnings for the story! I use it to keep track of my story and I queue up A LOT of posts so there's stuff that you probably won't know about here.
SPREADSHEET - SIMS INFO
I use all the spreadsheets morbid gamer provided for the challenge with some minor changes.
Also, with once again HEAVY SPOILER WARNINGS you can find the family tree I update whenever I play here:

Thank you all for reading, thank you for your responses and have fun with my ultimate decades story!

Although the Brink-Spectre household is affluent enough nowadays that the girls can dress more fashionably, Florence avoids the trendy puffed sleeves and voluminous ruffles in favor of more simple, academic clothing. This represents her more erudite personality, and her clothes tend to be more practical. She has a fondness for wandering off alone, and needs to dress practically in order to do so. Her clothes are often brown, with the occasional spot of blue, to tie in with her older brother Jules.
Although the rift between Jules and George is slowly growing, they are still very similar people, and Jules's wardrobe often parallels his father's. He wears a combination of very casual and very formal clothing, mostly in various shades of dark blue. He shares his mother's introversion, and this is manifested in the simplicity of his clothing. Jules dislikes his parents' attention, and that of others, and tries to avoid it whenever he can. The only exceptions to this are his sisters, with whom he is incredibly close.
Olive stands in sharp contrast to the demure practicality of Florence and Jules's wardrobes. She has no qualms about taking advantage of her parents' wealth, and is happy to use it to furnish her bold, outgoing personality. Olive dresses primarily in pinks and reds, which also serve to set her apart from the rest of her family, and her dresses frequently feature dramatic puffed sleeves, ruffles, ribbons, and lace. She loves attention, and strives to get it no matter how, often leading her to deliberately start conflict. She is the root of many of the disagreements between her siblings, and doesn't mind this at all.

Hello, it is the biomechanicaltomato! I am normal and not rabid from my current playthrough of the Ultimate Decades Challenge. I can be trusted with fingers.
So I reblog from CC creators (or links to their stuff) here. I'd start with @simverses and @flowermilksims and work your way out from there. @littlbowbub and @brazenlotus have neat cooking and farming/homesteading overhauls.
There's also the Royalty Mod (does much more than royalty), though I haven't played with it. The creator is doing their own UDC playthrough at the moment on Youtube.
Mizoreyukii has useful mods like the Arranged Marriage Mod and a broom replacement for the vacuun cleaner. Lumpinou's general suite of mods can help tweak things- I like the RPO mods for example- and there's a religion mod!
People who play The Sims 4. Where would be the best place to find custom content with medieval clothing or like game of thrones type clothing?

Rules
Simple Living and off the grid always!
Start as a low class civilian or serf and work your way into the royal family through the generations.
Can only bath in bodies of water or springs. Indoor plumbing wasn't really a thing and most Egyptians went to the bathroom in the same place they bathed and drank… Hygiene wasn't great.
This challenge is considered a success when you have a sim enter the royal family.
Welcome to Ancient Egypt! For this era we will be starting somewhere around 50-30 B.C. Ancient Egypt was a civilization that developed along the Nile River over 5000 years ago and was one of the greatest civilizations in history. Life along the Nile was key to Egypts success. The water fed their crops and nourished the soil during flood seasons, and was also where people got their water, bathed, and defecated.
Even though medical practices were more common during this time, infant mortality was still high, and most Egyptians didn't make it past their 40’s. To help with the high infant mortality on average, women had 4-6 children in their lifetime and valued family life.
Common causes of death for individuals in this era were; Tuberculosis, Malaria, Leprosy, Plagues, and Work-related injuries especially for those who worked in mining, metal working, and stone carving.
Reasons to Roll
Sims Aging Up & Childbirth.
Every time your sim ages up or gives birth to a new child you have to roll a D20 to see if they live or die. Below is a chart that will tell you what numbers rolled with a D20 cause the sim to die.
Death Roll
Tumblr media
Sick Emote (Slice of Life / Get To Work)
If your sim becomes sick you must roll to see if it is the plague, malaria, or tuberculosis.  You could also choose to play with the mod Deadly Sicknesses and it will auto pick which sickness you get. In this Era you now have access to doctors and medicine so your chances of living were better but not great. Or you could live with your sickness longer before it eventually takes you.
If it was a plague then there is a 75% chance of death.
Roll a D12. If you roll a 1, 6, or 12 you live.
If it was malaria, or tuberculosis you have a 50% chance of instant death.
Roll a dice. Odds you die, Evens you live but you continue to live the rest of your life with the disease. Everyday you must consume garlic or honey. And doll a D20 every day. If you roll a 1 the disease finally takes you and you die.
If it was the common cold you have a 25% chance of death.
Roll a D4. If you roll a 1 you die. Any other number you live but you must have your sim rest for a full day where they can do no other activities. And drink plenty of fluids
If you have Get To Work and your sim gets strange markings on their skin they have leprosy and must visit a doctor and get medicine to treat it.
Getting Started
Working your Way Through The Egyptian Class System
Pharaoh: Considered a living god, the absolute ruler with ultimate power.
Upper Class: Included the royal family, high-ranking government officials (like the vizier), military commanders, and priests.
Middle Class: Composed of scribes, skilled artisans, doctors, merchants, and some lower-level government officials.
Lower Class: Primarily made up of peasant farmers, and laborers. This is where you will be starting.
Before starting make sure you create households in your world with these jobs and classes.
Lower Class
We all have to start somewhere. Time to build yourself up from the bottom to the top. Begin as a lower class serf to a well off middle class family. Your life will consist of cleaning, cooking, and tending to the families every whim for little to no thanks. Think of it like an Egyptian version of Cinderella.
Goal: Marry into the next class rank. Find a scribe, artisan, doctor, or merchant and convince them to marry you. The only way to improve your status is to marry up. Have at least one child make it to young adulthood.
Daily Tasks
Clean the home
Cook all Meals
Laundry
Tend to Cats
Sweep (if you have Bust The Dust)
Work on your Skills  (don't have to max them but know a little of each)
Cooking
Gourmet cooking
Herbalism
Gardening
Foraging
Fishing
Painting
Looming (If you have the looming cc item.)
Middle Class
At this point you can either choose to continue on as the child of your serf, or as your starter sim after a tragic and mysterious death of your spouse…
Goal: Marry into the next class rank. But this won't be as easy as moving up from the laborer class. To move into the Upper Class you must find a government official, soldier or priest and marry them. But they won't marry you on your charms alone. You must be charismatic and skilled in the practice of your family to garner their attention. You can now have hired help in your home to take care of chores and raising your children.
Daily Tasks
Visit at least one communal lot in your world every day.
Market
Park
Temples
Pyramids
Socialize with other class members to try to get invited to royal events.
Work on your SkillsYour main focus is to build your skills in the trade of your family.
If you married a scribe you must reach;
Level 10 of the writing skill
Level 10 in research and debate.
If you married a artisan you must reach;
Level 10 in painting
Level 10 in either jewelry making, or furniture building.
If you married a doctor you must reach;
Level 10 in herbalism
Level 10 in Parenting, or charisma (bedside manner)
If you married a merchant you must;
Own a retail business and make $5000 in sales or,
Trade objects on a trading table and make $5000 in sales.
Once you prove yourself as a skilled worker you can find an Upper Class sim to marry.
Upper Class
Goal: You've made it this far! Now to use your status and rank to get close to the Pharaohs family. To do this you must become a skilled entertainer with an instrument, vocals, and dancing. Marry into the pharaohs family and have at least one child make it to young adulthood and become the next Pharaoh of Egypt.
You can now have hired help in your home to take care of chores and raising your children.
Daily Tasks
Visit at least one communal lot in your world every day to perform for the public and build your renown.
Market
Park
Temples
Pyramids
Socialize with other class members to try to get invited to royal events.
Work on your Skills
Work to become a skilled musician.
Reach level 10 in at least one instrument.
Reach level 10 in singing skill
Max level your dancing skill.
Once you max these skills you can attend a party and perform for Pharaoh himself and his family. Your goal at this event is to earn Pharaohs favor and convince them to allow you to marry one of his children, or become the spouse of Pharaoh themself!
This challenge is considered finished when you have a child and they make it to adulthood to become the next pharaoh of Egypt!
