anyways, you may absolutely throw out nonbinary Sophie!! They're such a wonderful character to play around with, since they both are uncomfortable with some of the ways they're expected to present gender (e.g. dresses, makeup) and their story as a whole can be taken as them existing outside of a binary (the human vs the hidden world).

I wonder if/how much of their access into other minds as a kid influenced their perception of their own gender. They got a front row view into the experiences of every gender they came across. Did that show them how different they experienced it? Did they start experiencing it differently because they got a taste of it all?

I HAVR A LOT OF THOUGHYS ABOUT "BINARY PRIVILEGE"

a lot of exorsexism-focused blogs really rail that it's a real thing but from my perspective as a transandrogynous, unaligned nb, it isn't any different than saying transmascs experience transmasc privilege, or that theres such a thing as "afab" or "amab" privilege

there are a lot of situations in which nonbinary people struggle uniquely, where binary trans people may not, but this depends A LOT on the binary and nonbinary people involved. when i was a kid, a binary trans boy essentially used my offered friendship for his own coming out/self discovery (to my knowledge i was the only out trans person at my school at the time), dumped me as a friend entirely, and i wouldnt be so irritated if it wasn't for the fact that our schools' gsa treated him like he was the only trans person there. myself and another person that was questioning nonbinary CONSTANTLY were begging to be respected, to not be deadnamed and misgendered, and people were CONSTANTLY speaking over us. but they rarely deadnamed or misgendered him, and corrected themselves when they did.

i think experiences like this are where this idea of binary privilege comes from, but "privilege" implies access to systemic advantages that nonbinary people don't have, which is a slightly different conversation. this ftm boy did not have a supportive family, and much worse dysphoria than me. he was also deadnamed and misgendered and degendered by almost every teacher we shared, same as me. his being binary trans did not give him any actual material privilege over me. he was just treated differently in a certain context, where i was treated worse in that same context

another example people usually talk abt is clinics/doctors offering hrt to binary trans people but refusing to prescribe it to nonbinary trans people. i personally have never experienced this! i am very very lucky that i have access to a queer informed consent clinic with a robust financial aid program. i am lucky that my doctor is able to and willing to prescribe testosterone, and that he trusts my ability to guide my own transition. there are plenty of binary trans people all over that are not similarly lucky and there are a lot of reasons why both nonbinary and binary trans people get denied hrt. this is a case where exorsexism may uniquely affect the transphobia experienced as compared to a binary person experiencing the same transphobia, but it does not actually translate to "binary privilege" imo bc hrt is still being gatekept in this hypothetical. the differences deserve to be talked about, but acting as if binary trans people hold unique power over us is just... it's not true, and it makes it more difficult to actually have these conversations

(this isnt even getting into other factors like gender nonconformity or sexuality, like passing or not passing. my partner is nb transmasc and stealth; does he have binary privilege bc he is comfortable being read as a man and respected by our cis friends where i am not? do they experience exorsexism bc people refuse to acknowledge their nonbinary gender? where do we draw the line?)

hi back again abt binary privilege i DO think binary trans ppl on here especially never grew out of their transmed phases and when u see someone mocking or deriding "binary privilege" they usually end up being super exorsexist in my experience? that depends very heavily on the tone they use when talking about it, like theres a hugeee difference between "i dont agree that i experience privilege for being binary trans" and "can you believe the xe/xir catgenders are saying binary privilege is a thing" (though its often more subtl than that lol)

Queer history of Final Fantasy

I am replaying all the old final fantasies(mostly psp psone releases), first time with english localization and not the original jp.

Now i get it.

It all make sense now.

I couldn't understand the wave of "why shove the gays in our face" backlash of 16(even though, the non homophobic felt it was lacking since they didn't want to 'push it in yall face'). Like apperantly moat of the implication or straight up fruity moments in the old game was completely removed, or changed to the point of it being a 'silly thing'.

So lets clarify -

*Cecil(iv), your homeboy- an Non-binary (language is the best indication, but yeah i think it was a decision made for both female and male players to be able to relate to them, but yeah funny outcome non the less)

*Bartz(v)- outright bisexual, they didnt even hide it- next person on this list gonna make it make sense.

*faris(v)- an ftm transgender( at least in the original version, i know in some new iterations they scrapped the whole concept, but left it in in others?)- mainly speak about himself with (ore/boku- which is conventionally usally by male speakers), after finding out soem of the cast either use a female pronounce on him, but bartz constantly either avoid it or use male pronounce(or the nonbinary version which is usually reffered to kidz) but yeah, bartz was crushing on faris where he thought he was a cis male and unlike the other guy didnt shy away.

Lets jump a bit to 8-

Irvine(viii)- even though considered very handsome to the point he could get with any girl hed want, was even flirted with by selphie i think i need to remember, but he usually brush it off.

If anything he is either asexual, or gay(its very subtle, but its what called queer coding, and well see that allot from now on cause japan caught up to westerns norm on media)

Quina Quen (ix)- literally, a nonbinary- but i think they kept it in eng as well cause they are not human, but like black mages they have no sex, but unlike black mages they are 'genderless' and dont care for human norms.

Auron(x)- ahh yes, your favourite broody guy and probably where im gonna get tons of hate.

Auron is very subtle, but once you notice it its hard to deny.

I think Auron is gay, unlike jecht or braska- he did not have kids, denied arranged marriage, and followed jecht to dream zanarken just to save jecht only son- it was pretty obvious that auron loved jecht. He also loved braska but not as much, and it shows- that for auron it was more than friendship. You can see it with his attitude towards yuna vs tidus- with yuna he is nicer, politer. Liem you act when you babysit your friends /cousins child.

But to tidus, he is a full father figure.In their journey together they grow, and i think if he wasnt the boy of the man he loved he wouldn't treat tidus as his own. With all the scoldinngs in mind.

Paine(X-2)- qlmost forgot her, but yeah she's pretty gay for riku

I dont remember much though because if the mission structure of the game.

Larsa(xii) - ohh i see you boy, i see u. He is sus as hell. He is a kid so its pretty innocent(and relatable to us queer kidz)

Its pretty obvios that he is crushing on basch, innocently though. I know some ppl who shipped him with penelo, but canonically by spinoffs at least she and vann are an item.

Also they made sure it was obvious cause japan have this thing that a young character is crushing on a teacher,mentor , older characters in general(aka cc sakura- her friend crushing on a teacher, syaoran & sakura crushing on yukito, also happens in tons of pop culture media at that time, so im not surprised, but im happy this time its one sided, THANK GOD)

But yeah if you reached the ending its pretty obvious.

Fang & vanille(xiii)- the first lesbians couple! Terra(VI) was supposed to be the first but they were afraid it will make her less marketable so they scrapped her gf. They made them clear, but at the same time they tried to make sure pple wont be fetishizing them(they tried, at least).

I want to explain their story more but i think ill mess it up since i tend to mix up 13's lacie, falcie and all that jazz.

So ill just say that basically there are 2 world in 13, pulse and cacoon. Pulse is basically earth and cacoon is the moon. There is a god for each world called a falcie.

Few of them but ine for each major ones. Our main gand from cacoon, branded by a falcie to be slaves(lacie) vanille and fang are from pulse, and slaves of pulse lacie, so basically they are with the task of creating Ragnarok which is like the end of time and but limw they dont know cause the gods in this game is like 'yeah imma give you a mission but wont tell you beside weird non undersandable feaver dream and you need to figure out and fast or youll become this universe version of zombie, and if you do complete it you become a ceystal living forever but like, sleeping beauty style. So lose lose situation.

The focus of them both is different from the gang, caus the falcie of cacoon is evil so he gove them focus destroying cocoon while if fang& vannile mannaged to ruin that falcie and bring ragnarok theyll become a crystal, and they used it to save coccon from falling and crushing killing all the people in it, basically became a pillar in eternal sleep when they hheld each other.

But they are saved in later game only to... Lightning return which we wont talk about cause i hate timers.

I love the story of xiii, big part of it is vanille & fang, i havent played in english yet, but i will say, their story is one of the more meaningful on this list, very well developed and i will do it disservice if id try to explain it in few sentences - so do yourself a favour and play or watch the playthrough.

Ignis& gladio(xv)- here is when localization ruimed it. I know cause i palyed on jp dub with eng sub and heard the differences live- first of all gladio and ignis are completely different in jp, as individuals and as a pair- they were supposed to be the first dion& terrence moment, but it got scrapped and they went the vannile& fang route, only that bec they are men, the localization team missed the mark.

Gladio got pissed at noctis in the train because of ignis.

In jp its clear their bond is beyond friends, and not mention the fact that their AI is always stuck together, and that gladio isnt a womenizer in jp at all, and there is no fiancee/girlfriend.

In jp he said suggested there is someone he wants to be with but bec of the state of the world and them both being constantly in the battlefront he couldnt ask.

(and ignis clear his throat when everyone is like oh great, very subtle but it was leading to that)

Every stop of the train or erea post blindness gladio was with ignis not leaving him .

Also tabata san also said that they are more than friends. So there's that too.

But its no secret 15 localization is tereible, the massacared prompto, he is so cringy in english, in jp yeah he is funny but like he says more stuff then random pop colture references, he breaks the 4th wall occasionally but not on the same level of the localization. Also, jp noctis is a little shit because he can and will, in localization he is more relatable while ignos and gladio are kimda mean. In jp its the other way around and up until chap 13 (when he is alone) noctis is a bratt. He has some moments when he is nicer, but when struggle shows he is a bratt about it- and its done purposely since he is a spoiled pronce who never done anything alone in his life.

Thats why in chap 13 he has a change of heart, because he was alone and learned to appriciate his friends when he was stuck alone in the dark with no weapons and i think it was a good call storytelling wise, but yeah the english localzation ruined it and made the whole chapter pointless .

The series has always been kinda Fruity and i know some of yall will be like, 'but there's no proof'. Well, japanese speakers(who arent homophobic at least) will agree with me that we tend in media that is not specified like BL or GL to make things subtle. So what in the west is called 'queer coding' is very common in japanese media and it comes in way more shape and forms.usually implied with a desper conncetion relationship or linguistics.its funny cause in the 80's and very early 90's gay pple wasnt hidden in jp pop culture (no kisses or anything but it was straight out told to the viewer/player)

And only later 90's there was a trend of removing us completely from the media, but around that time a specific genre was created so it wasn't out completely.(like yaoi/yuri as erotic mangas existed aince the 80's but usually only love stories or main gay characters were mixed in with the straight media, kimda like what netflix does today, but around 96, 97 the shounen ai and shoujo ai genres rose in popularity(mainly cause of clamp) and things got seperated. And sometimes that leads to some contradicting headcanons, so in my little brain I have like, multiple different sets of headcanons for a bunch of different characters while also having My Headcanons, those being the ones I believe in the most/came up with without outside influence. I will be listing My Headcanons, but I type that entire preface to explain why some of my posts might be contradictory of the headcanons I list here 🫶

Adding onto the above hc, Kai and Nya's eyes are still pretty dull due to them being like, the last two to realize their powers, while Jay's are extremely bright and vibrant.

Jay- she/they (occasionally he) transfem + gender-fluid, bisexual

Hard of hearing, wears hearing aids. I think the hearing loss has always been there, but I think her elemental power just worsened it, bc you know. Thunder loud.

That being said, I think she was the first to get her elemental powers. I think they got them when she was like, a really really young kid.

Has heterochromia.

Came out as trans like, mid-prime empire.

Has psychosis and suffers from delusions.

Not rlly a Jay hc, but related. Their mom gave them up because she was desperately hoping they wouldn't have an elemental power, but if she did, they'd be near unfindable because she lived through hell and didn't want Jay to have to go through the same.

Nya- she/they transfem nonbinary, bisexual demiromantic

Has a tremor after un-merging with the ocean.

Her and Kai both have pretty bad anger issues.

For a long time after Hands Of Time she hates the way she looks because of how much she looks like her mom.

Still holds a heavy resentment against their parents, because even though it wasn't their choice to leave, them and Kai still had to grow up alone.

Has time blindness, but only after un-merging with the ocean. She became disoriented and confused about the passage of time after being the ocean for so long.

First of all thank you for the kind words and for following me for so long!

And secondly I have no problem talking about these things because I think it's important for us to be open when it comes to identity and the way its fluid and can change, especially with all the de-transistioners on social media who took a complete left turn and are now super anti trans because thier identity changed and think gender affirming care ruined thier life.

So my identity has always been a journey, when I was a kid I never felt like a girl but no one ever told me I didn't have to be one so I spent my entire life confused and not understanding why I didn't fit in with the other girls. When I was in high school it was okay to be gay but there was so much biphobia still rampant that I told myself well I like girls more so that must mean I'm gay because you can't like both. It was when I was 18 and fully understood what it meant to be trans I was like oh shit this why I've always felt this way. I'm trans but again at that time being non binary wasn't as accepted so even though sometimes I felt in the middle ground I must be a boy because you have to be one or the other.

Around 22 is when I learned more about bisexuality and realized I liked everyone and that being bisexual wasn't a bad thing like people wanted me to think. Even though I learned about being non binary years ago it wasn't until this year when I finally stopped to think about my own identity and understood that even though I am definitely on the masculine side of the gender spectrum and not female in anyway, part of me still feels in the middle ground and that I like using they/them pronouns along with he/him so currently transmasculine nonbinary is where im at.

What I'm trying to get at is that it's okay to not understand your identity, for some people it's crystal clear and for some people it's not so clear and takes time while for some like me it's fluid and ever changing which I can't stress enough it's okay for your identity to change during different parts of your life and don't let anyone try to make you feel bad for changing your identity!

Sorry if this is an overly personal question but when did u know for sure you were nb/trans/queer? I personally feel something like dysphoria but I'm not sure if it's real and I thought I would ask you if that's okay. If not feel free to disregard this ask

personally, i had always felt kind of a disconnect with being female? even as a child. i was a very rough and tumble tomboy kid but more than that, i really REALLY hated being referred as feminine or as my deadname. i found out about nonbinary identities when i was an early teen, probably around 13? and felt like that was closer to how i was feeling. i came out as nonbinary/agender when i was fourteen and asked to be called they/them pronouns. it wasnt quite right though? i officially came out as a trans man when i was fifteen and wanted he/him exclusively after that. it was until i was an adult, probably 20-21 that i added he/it and started fitting more into the transmasc nb category and its very comfortable for myself. personally my dysphoria comes from my voice, my lack of hair, and simply the lack of being perceived as male. i want to be able to grow a beard and grow my hair out. i want my jawline to be visible. i want my voice to be deep. i have an image of what i want to look and sound like and be like and im not there yet and that gives me dysphoria. i also have chest dysphoria personally but not bottom dysphoria. dysphoria looks different for everyone but the way i look at it, if your dysphoria comes from being perceived as your agab, its probably gender dysphoria. if it comes from more of a "i hate my body for other reasons", it could be more body dysmorphia or a general dislike of yourself. id try exploring gender euphoria as well, in what way can you refer to yourself that makes you happy? in what way does others referring to you make you happy? are you happier being referred to as male, female, neutral, etc? i think the euphoria is just as important as the dysphoria when figuring yourself out. i hope this helped at least a bit!!!

How I realized I was LGBTQ+

It started when I was 10. I am AFAB btw. I realized that I wasn't cis. I thought that I was genderfluid at the time. I had tried to go by Kade on my masc days. I wasn't out to family because I wasn't sure. I realized that wasn't right. Fast forward about 6 months and I meet my qu**r table. I introduced myself as Bisexual-Even though I wasn't, I knew I had no attraction whatsoever to women.- I stuck with that for about 3 months. I did research and found the term abrosexual, and it felt right. I also knew I wasn't a girl, but I wasn't a boy. I thought I was nonbinary. I did more research and found demiboy and paraboy. I did a little more research and realized Demiboy was right. I just typed it on my laptop and showed it to my friends and they accepted me. I moved across the country about 2 months later. When I got to start at my new school, people thought I was a boy, which I technically am, but I'm still not out to family so..heheh, sidetracked a bit right there sorry, anyway, I had to go to the girls bathroom, horrible. One of my teachers thought I was a boy, and my school has girls restroom passes and boys restroom passes, so I never went to the bathroom in 3rd period for the rest of the time I had his class, I didn't tell him I was a "girl" even though he literally told us about his husband. Still, another new kid called me the T slur at least 10 times within 1 week when he first started. After that, I found a new table to sit with, everyone there is qu**r, so I could tell them. One of my friends also goes by he/they pronouns so I have another person to talk to about different pronouns. I found ways to "bind" without a binder and I started to buy masculine clothes. My family know that I am trans, even though I never told any of them. I realized I was mlm because I never had attraction to women or women-aligned individuals. I always imagined a wedding where I was a husband to a husband. Also, ___Ryan F*****g Reynolds!!!!!
