Well, today’s Coconut Torte Day, a day to celebrate the history of the combination of tortes and coconut into its delectable dessert that exists today.  
History of Coconut Torte Day
“Torte” is the German word for cake and it is a type of cake that uses groundnuts as the predominant dry ingredient in place of flour. A torte is usually made with several layers and filled with whipped cream, buttercream, or jam.
The first kind of torte to exist was the Linzer Torte, made from an almond shortcrust pastry and filled with red currant jelly. Claiming its fame from Linz, Austria, it’s known as the oldest known-cake in the world, originally believed to have begun during the 1600s from Vienna Stadt und Landesbibliothek.
A recipe book containing various recipes from the most famous chefs and bakeries at the time.  Today, there is a wide variety of torte made by bakeries everywhere, including the delicious coconut torte.
Coconuts, on the other hand, may have been around a lot longer than people would think, originally being traded to by Arab traders carrying coconuts from India to East Africa almost 2,000 years ago.
These same traders also introduced the coconut to Europeans among the Asian Silk Roads, one of the more famous being Marco Polo, who called the coconut “The Pharaoh’s Nut” in the 13th century. It didn’t earn its name until the 16th century as it was similar to the Portuguese word cocuruto, which means “crown of the head”, as it looked like a person’s skull.
From there until the 19th century, many used the coconut as decorations and food, believing it had magical healing powers, which is probably why they decided to put it into desserts.
The idea of a coconut cake came to surface in the 1920s and was served at ladies gatherings, and from there, people began to experiment with coconut, and thus eventually created the coconut torte.

An irregular garden update! Moved some cold tolerant plants into the greenhouse from the basement this afternoon. The spinach I started during the winter is ready for harvest. This fall I think I will plant it earlier to give it time to establish before it really gets cold. Some of it is a little stunted and needs to be pulled because it failed to thrive.
I will not use Johnny Seed seed starting mix again. It's good stuff but retains moisture a little too well and I had a shit time keeping proper moisture levels. Plus it's the type of soil that needs immediate transplant really and I didn't have the space of time for that. As a result all my brassicas died (twice). I decided to try them a third time in Jiffy seed starter which I know how to start things in. So far the brassicas are doing good but we'll see. It's a little late for them but I'm planning on starting another round in a month or two in preparation for a fall crop anyway.
Citrus is still hanging on through the winter. Not sure if the blooms are death flowering or not. Surprisingly the blood orange is doing the best out of the three.
And lastly I've got one groundnut starting to emerge. With any luck I'll have more showing up soon.
No photos of the fruit trees or berries but they're doing great and hopefully will start taking off soon as the weather warms up.

Am I the only one?
Am I the only one who eats lunch at 10? I can't help it. No matter how much I eat for breakfast I'm ravenous by this time.
My day looks like this:
6:30 breakfast of oats with just water and salt. Sometimes peanuts. Or sometimes I have leftovers. Like today I had beans and rice.
10.00 Lunch. I eat my home made lunch from my thermoflask. Usuallu rice or pasta with veggies and mushroom/beans/tofu.
12:30 snack of tea with biscuit (one of those single portion breakfast biscuits type of deals) or lately I've had the bad habit of going for Sprite zero. Sometimes I have apple or handfull of nuts. Not really for hunger. Just something to munch.
17:00 dinner. Usually something trationally Ghanian (banku and occro, groundnut soup and rice, yam and kontomire...) I end my meal with cup of tea with honey and some fruit. Maybe some biscuits again.
