Ryder Cup 2021 Format
The 2021 Ryder Cup consists of a match play event and each game is worth one point. This is the structure of the game:
Friday (Day 1) Day 1: Four alternate shot (foursome) games and four better balls (fourball) matches
Saturday (Day 2) Foursome 4 games &fourball 4 matches
Sunday (Day 3) 12 singles games
The initial two days of competition consist of foursome and four-ball competitions. This order can be determined by the captain of the home team. The third day will consist of 12 singles matches.
Four-balls is where each member of a group of two players plays the ball of his own. That means there will be four shots for each hole. Each team will count the lowest of the two scores for each hole. The hole is taken by the team who has the lowest score. The hole is cut by half if there is a tie.
In case of the foursome, each team of two will play a ball on each hole with players rotating on each hole. Tee shots are played in a series of rounds by the players and holes with odd numbers being led off. A player can play on holes that are even-numbered. The team that has the lowest score for each hole is awarded the hole. If there's a tie in scores, the hole will be cut in half.
Singles matches have a match with a player of each team. The hole is won by the player who scores the lowest on every hole. If there's a tie, the hole will be cut in half.
Contrasting stroke play implies that the opponent does not have to complete the entire hole of a match. If the opponent loses a stroke, or almost a putt, the other player takes the ball and goes on to the next hole.
