Another thing Claw and DJ have in common is that they both have a best friend.

reader being some big bitch in the marines (colonel, general or whatever the eqvivalent is) and taking Grim Reaper Stone under his wing but not like for insidious military purposes but because reader saw Stone and was like "ah yes... that's son right there" so Stone gets the full experience of a loving father/grandfather from reader (reader ends up helping Stone quit the military at some point because he doesn't want Stone to "waste" himself there)

In the AU where Stone is still lent to the 141 but he was in a squad called The Tigers, he does have a father figure in the U.S. Navy (a Fleet Marine Corpsman like Stone but he's a Master Chief Hospital Corpsman because he has been in the military for roughly 37 years). And he looked at Stone and went "My son now."

But I think Grim Reaper!Stone would appreciate a higher-ranking Reader taking him under their wing. He would initially be like "Why would you think I'm weak?"

He'd at first balk at you trying to help him quit the military, 'cause that's all he knows. All he knows how to be a weapon for the military, a mindless soldier they can shape into whatever they want. Why would he quit the only constant thing he knows?

But you'd teach him there's more to live for, things he had never imagined.
