been listening to this song today and thinking about them (buck and tommy)
I feel it's so much of what Tommy DIDN'T say, but SHOULD HAVE.
"From the first "Hello" you gave to me I've done nothing else but smile And I know you're in a hurry But it's gonna take a while So forgive me if we go slow But there's something I think you should know
I'm going fast as I can, please don't make me rush This feeling's coming on way too fast I'll tell you all of the things that you'll never forget But I'm not ready say, "I love you" yet I'm not ready to say "I love you" yet
Don't push me in too deep I've always been the fool who rushes in You've got to take the pieces one-by-one before you've got everything So forgive me if we take time but there's something that's been on my mind
I'm going fast as I can, please don't make me rush This feeling's coming on way too fast I'll tell you all of the things that you'll never forget But I'm not ready say, "I love you" yet I'm not ready to say "I love you" yet
Oh! There'll be times when I'm mistaken There'll be times when we're gonna fight But you needn't doubt we can work it out And in time we'll get it right So forgive me if we go slow but there's something I think you should know"

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned my super long sea shanty playlist (almost 16 hours!)
If your favorite sea shanty or shanty band isn’t on here, please recommend it to me!

The Chemical Worker's Song (Process Man) by Great Big Sea is an Avatar of the Corruption.
youtube
A process man am I and I’m telling you no lie,
I work and breath among the fumes that trail across the sky.
There’s thunder all around me and a poison in the air,
There’s a lousy smell that smacks o’ hell and dust all in me hair.

i feel like Canadian music doesn't always get a fair shake in other countries, but so many great bands come out of Canada, Treble Charger, Marianas Trench, Billy Talent, Walk off The Earth, JJ Wilde, Arcade Fire, Arkells, The Trews, the Tragically Hip, Great Big Sea, Spirit of the West, Our Lady Peace, Avril Lavigne. The Canadian Music scene is bangin'

I'm reading the most recent installment of "Calypso's Closet on the Caribbean Coast" by @celluloidbroomcloset and there's a moment where the person cuing the music up for rehearsal starts playing "The Wellerman," and Ed's thinking he's never stripped to a shanty before ...
and I started remembering having the person I was kinda-sorta dating back in 2003 over and, how his response to my putting on a Great Big Sea album was along the lines of "I've never made out to sea shanties before." And yeah he was totally judging me but also he was free to elect not to make out with me if it was too weird, so I reached down into what I now think of as my reservoir of Stede Bonnet and asked, "Well, what have you been doing with your life then?"

“Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I'll never forget
Some of the boys got loaded drunk, and they ain't got sober yet
As long as a bottle was passed around, every man was feelin' gay
O'Leary came with the bagpipes, some music for to play
That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy
That's how they showed their honour and their pride!
They said it was a sin and shame, and they winked at one another
And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died
As Mrs. Murphy sat in the corner pouring out her grief
Kelly and his gang came tearing down the street
They went into an empty room and a bottle of whiskey stole
Then put the bottle with the corpse to keep that whiskey cold
That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy
That's how they showed their honour and their pride
They said it was a sin and shame, and they winked at one another
And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died
About two o'clock in the morning after emptying the jug
Doyle rolls up the ice box lid to see poor Paddy's mug
We stopped the clock so Mrs. Murphy couldn't tell the time
And at a quarter after two we argued it was nine
That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy
That's how they showed their honour and their pride
They said it was a sin and shame, and they winked at one another
And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died
They stopped the hearse on George Street outside Sundance Saloon
They all went in at half past eight and staggered out at noon
They went up to the graveyard, so holy and sublime
Found out, when they got there, they'd left the corpse behind!
That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy
That's how they showed their honour and their pride
They said it was a sin and shame, and they winked at one another
And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died
Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I'll never forget
Some of the boys got loaded drunk and they ain't been sober yet
As long as a bottle was passed around, every man was feelin' gay
O'Leary came with the bagpipes, some music for to play
That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy
That's how they showed their honour and their pride
They said it was a sin and shame, and they winked at one another
And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died
And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died!”
