kinda a niche au concept but i think a lot of people will get it but also it’s so random lol: corroded coffin friendship / steddie / buckingham / more lol
okay, my dad watches car shows all the time like the car sos shit, and i don’t really like them, but i’ve always enjoyed one: Counting Cars. the main mechanic is like a metalhead and they’re all kinda punky and alternative and just a bunch of metalhead dads pimping out old cars and shit.
henceforth, the au idea: how are you seeing how our beloved eddie might fit into this?
SO say CC got big enough to be known kinda western globally or whatever, maybe bigger idk i don’t care but anyway. maybe they were a one hit wonder in the 80/90’s or whatever.
but they stopped playing because they all kinda wanted to settle down and stop partying and wanted to buy houses and not have to tour all the time or whatever right. say gareth met a girl and got married to her and they had a kid on the way, jeff and grant wanted to settle down and live a cosy steady life together, eddie was just so fucking tired of being front man idol or whatver. and they all just wanted to get back into the mechanic shop - maybe they all apprenticed at thatcher tyers or whatever in hawkins when they were younger.
whatever the reason, they’re ex-famous band who are pretty ficking rich and love working on cars and shit. so they open a shop and start fixing up cars. they get a lot of rapport because of their name; the shops called corroded cars or something similar to the band name. eddie runs the place because it’s mostly his passion and he impulse bought the shop himself whilst drunk one night and then they were all just like okay yeah let’s do this lol.
maybe one night they’re all chilling at gareth’s place for “family” dinner and after dinner they’re just watching telly and a car show comes on and then they get the idea to start a show!!! so they do!!!
eddie’s the main guy, obviously. he’s always been the drama queen confident one so he runs it all, and it’s His shop anyway. eddie is the idiotic, loveable, idiot but he’s also just a cool down to earth alternative guy who headbangs whilst working on engines and REFUSES to cut his hair.
i think jeff would be the head painter, graphic artist,. i feel such an arty vibe from him ya know? i think that would be his area of expertise. the audience would love his general calm vibe but also adore how easily he puts everyone in their place in a second and is so secretly sassy.
i think argyle would be the airbrush guy and also works in paint / design. he’s Definitely not always high and is just funny like that… definitely. his niche opinions and random curiosities keep the audience captivated.
gareth would be the detailer i think. he’s got a sort of perfectionist vibe and he’d always have a go when eddie brings in a car or a bike he’s just been fixing the motor of or whatever and there’s grease stains all over the doors and shit. the audience would love their banter.
grant would be the bike shop manager, he’s got a strong interest in motorbikes and that’s his area of expertise. he’ll spend hours perfecting one part of the body of a bike and eddie adores his dedication every fuckinf time.
jonothan would be the tech guy. he finds ways to update old cars to help them run smoothly whilst feeling authentic in the drive. some of the tech he pulls out is next level and everyone in the shop will spend an entire episode gushing about this one feature in a car he added that makes it feel like a spy car or something.
Nancy!! she’d be the behind the scenes manager. eddie hired her about one month into the buisiness when he realised none of the CC guys could / or wanted to do the books and shit. she’s smart as hell and a total hard ass when it comes to their aloof attitude and carelessness, but she’s also good fun and a total girlboss. eddie relies on her to keep the shop afloat, he’d be lost without her. she’s a fan favorite because she’s the only one who can attempt to put eddie in his place and acctually succeed. anyone goes and tells eddie he needs to think about the budget before he goes spending, he won’t even listen, she gives him one look and tells him no and suddenly he’s sheepish and nodding and walking away like a child who was told they can’t have a cookie. she’s in charge of all the books / finance / accounts / all that stuff!
(also, people are having a hard time figuring out if she’s dating john or argyle, or weather those guys are dating eachotjer, or if they’re all dating, or if None of them are dating)
Chrissy!! she’s adorable. a total fan favorite. she’s their receptionist and is currently taking an engineering course part time in college, finally taking the initiative to do something She actually wants to do. her sweet demeanour pulls customers and watchers in, and her determined attitude is what makes them stay. she’s like pure sugar, but so insanely smart. sometimes she’ll come and watch everyone as they work and if it’s not busy they’ll teach her different things and let her try. everyone loves the episodes where chrissy gets to try and fix things or paint things or learn things!
ROBIN!!! my girl! ugh! she’s TOTALLY an iconic mean lesbian okay. she’s always got banter with the guys, and she’s so cool calm and clllected, insulting them all the time. the girls in the audience go crazy when she’s onscreen in just a wife beater tank and got them gay girl muscles out! she works close with eddie on motors and shit but she’s also the project scout. she looks for new things for them to try and brings these ideas / cars / bikes / whatever else over to eddie to get out into the show! but the audience loves her even more when they see her totally awkward dorky side come out the first episode where chrissy comes over and watches robin work. they’ve never seen robin drop a spanner so much! chrissy is the only one who can fluster robin like that. the audience is rooting for their romance.
and the steddie! so robins totally uber rich best friend likes collecting old cars. and she’s been trying to get him on the show for a while because he has Such cool cars but he’s never needed fixing or pimping. until he goes and buys another one and it just won’t run and it’s all beaten down but he just HAD to buy it because it was his dream car as a little kid or something. so he comes on the show with his car and - well, the main reason he’s been avoiding it because he actually used to crush on lead guitarist and vocalist eddie munson back in the 90’s - eddie obviously being the face of the show greets him with nancy and robin and they talk about his car and eddie gets Flustered!
robin has a totally hot best friend whos So ficking queer And knows heaps about cars and is standing so close, shoulders touching with eddie as he shows pictures of his collection on his phone and eddie pretends he’s looking at the cars and not steve’s ring adorned hands.
steve is also highly protective of his cars and so he hangs around whilst they work on his ride. he and robin are so chatty and bitchy together and the audience love it. and eddie can’t stop Staring!!
by episode three of steve being featured in it people are posting shit trying to notify steve and robin that eddie is so gay for steve!
and then steve’s car is done and done and then he leaves the show. and then a couple of episodes later robin approaches eddie and whispers - but the cameras are right there - to eddie asking if he has been perving on her best friend and it’s So funny to everyone cause eddie’s kinda terrified and she’s threading to burry him alive if he hurts her steve and- eddie goes red when he realises that robin just confirmed he had a chance with steve.
anyway. suddenly steve has Many more appearances on the show :)
and obviously robin and chrissy get together!!’
and no one ever finds out about the love triangle between nancy jon and argyle (they’re all polly)
anyway. i just think that’s cute.

Riverrosetober 2023- Day 21, Prompt: Extended Universe
Rose leans back in her seat, in this inn and pub situated who knows where. River beside her, knocking down shots faster than the bartender can keep up with. It makes Rose sigh as she rolls her eyes at River, muttering out that she should slow down.
Apparently, River doesn't like this idea. Made evident by her getting up close to Rose's face, alcohol on her breath as she speaks, "Make me."
There's a glint in her eyes that signals to Rose that she's not fully gone yet. She's gone drinking with River enough to know her tells, to be able to see when she's too far gone to be responsible.
So, Rose replies, "How's a drinking contest sound? I win, you stop. You win, hmm. What'd you like?"
And the moment she poses the question is the moment she knows she screwed up, because in a moment River is more sober than a second ago. And Rose knows that River is about to make sure that she wins.
River opens her mouth, "If I win..." she trails off, making Rose fidget uncomfortably. "If I win I get to take you shopping, spoiling you completely. And, you have to go back to school and get your A-levels."
She leans back with a self-satisfied smirk. As Rose gapes at her, mouth 'what the fuck'.
River raises one of her glasses, calling out to the bartender to get her and Rose the strongest stuff they have available. Rose is pretty sure she sees the bartender mutter something under her breath, before calling out that it'll only be a moment.
Then the drinks are set down in front of them and Rose is severely regretting her decision. But she already made her choice so now she has to deal with the consequences. She knocks it back, wincing at how strong it is.
And that's how it passes, the two of them alternating who's drinking. In the end, somehow, Rose wins their little contest. So she carefully wraps her arm around River, pulling her up to get her to the room she's staying in. She gets her most of the way up the stairs without incident, but then River's legs decide to fully give up underneath her. Making Rose have to fully pick River up.
She gets to the door, and carefully unlocks it before opening the door. On the chair just inside lay Rose's jacket and hopper. She swallows as her heart constricts at the thought of having to leave River. But she needs to find the Doctor, she has to fix the stars.
So as she lay River in the bed, pulling the covers up over her. Rose cannot help but lean over and gently kiss River on the forehead, whispering 'goodbye' before turning away and pulling the blue jacket on. Grabbing the hopper and leaving.
Small tears slipping past her eyes.
[ORIGINAL IDEA BELOW CUT]
OG IDEA:
Rose closed her eyes.
In.
Out.
She tilted her head back and looked at the alien sky above, resisting the urge to let out a scream. Instead she reigned in her frustration and decided that she needed to use it to help her get moving. The stars were going out and she needed to find the Doctor.
Easiest way was going to be asking the locals if they had ever heard of or met anyone who goes by the Doctor. She is fully aware that she might find people who know him, but a different regeneration.
So she starts asking and the first person she gets an answer out of is an elderly woman who says that there's a woman staying at one of the inn's nearby who knows the Doctor and Rose thanks her profusely. Double-checking the name with the old lady.
"River Song, dearie. That's her name."
She goes to the inn only barely registering that it's called 'Bad Wolf Inn'. She looks around trying to spot the woman who should know the Doctor. Her eyes land on someone who fits the description, and as she makes her way over the person's eyes flicker over her briefly before they've widened and focused on Rose.
The woman spins and hops off the table, disbelief coloring her voice, "Rose Tyer?"
Rose nods carefully, "I assume that you're River Song then?"
"Correct," her smile is taunt, as though at any moment it might snap.

FAQs
1. What is the average price per square meter for land in Morwell?
The price per square meter for land in Morwell can vary significantly depending on factors such as location, proximity to amenities, and zoning. For instance, land close to the town center or near popular schools will typically command a higher price than land on the outskirts.
A parcel of land in the Heritage Park Estate, a well-developed residential area, might be priced around AUD 150 per square meter. In contrast, land on the periphery, with less immediate access to services, might be around AUD 80 per square meter.
Real estate agents like First National Real Estate or Wilson Property can provide current listings and historical sales data, helping you gauge the market. Financing for land purchases is often available from local banks like Bendigo Bank, which may offer land loans with specific terms.
2. Are there any restrictions on building on the land in Morwell?
Restrictions can include zoning laws, building codes, and heritage overlays. These rules dictate what you can build, how high structures can be, and how much of the land can be developed. The Latrobe City Council is the governing body that enforces these regulations.
If you purchase land in a heritage overlay area, you may need to maintain the historical character of any new building, limiting modern architectural styles.
Stockdale & Leggo can assist in identifying any restrictions on specific plots. Consulting with an architect or builder who understands local regulations is crucial to avoid costly modifications after purchase.
3. What zoning regulations apply to land in Morwell?
Zoning regulations determine the permitted uses for the land, such as residential, commercial, industrial, or agricultural. These regulations are enforced by the local council and can affect the type of buildings you can construct.
A piece of land zoned for “Residential 1” can be used for single-family homes, while “Industrial 1” zoning might be reserved for manufacturing facilities.
The Latrobe City Council’s planning department or local agents like Harcourts Real Estate can help you understand the specific zoning of a property. Zoning can also impact property value; land zoned for residential use is typically more expensive than land zoned for agricultural purposes.
4. Is the land serviced by utilities such as water, electricity, and gas?
Not all land comes with utility connections, especially in rural or undeveloped areas. Ensuring that land has access to water, electricity, gas, and sewerage is essential for future development.
A plot in a newly developed estate like Morwell Park Estate is likely to have all utilities connected, while more remote land may require you to arrange connections at your own cost.
Wilson Property or Keith Williams Estate Agency can confirm utility connections for specific parcels. The cost of connecting utilities can vary, with electricity connection potentially costing between AUD 5,000 to AUD 10,000 depending on proximity to existing infrastructure.
5. Are there any environmental considerations for land in Morwell?
Environmental considerations include factors such as bushfire risk, soil contamination, and proximity to protected areas. These considerations can impact building plans and insurance costs.
Land near the Morwell National Park might require special fire-resistant construction materials due to bushfire risk. Similarly, areas with a history of industrial use might require soil testing for contamination.
Environmental consultants or companies like EnviroTech can conduct assessments. The Latrobe City Council also provides information on environmental overlays. Insurance premiums can be higher for land with significant environmental risks.
6. Can I subdivide the land in Morwell?
Subdivision involves splitting a larger parcel of land into smaller lots, which can then be sold separately. The ability to subdivide depends on the land size, zoning, and local council regulations.
A 1,000 square meter plot in a residential zone might be subdividable into two 500 square meter lots, but approval from the Latrobe City Council is required. Factors like minimum lot size and access to services will be considered.
Agents like Barry Plant Real Estate often specialize in subdivision opportunities and can guide you through the process. Subdividing can increase the overall value of the land, but costs for surveying, legal fees, and council approval can range from AUD 10,000 to AUD 30,000.
7. What are the legal requirements for purchasing land in Morwell?
Legal requirements include ensuring a clear title, conducting due diligence on the land, and adhering to the terms of the contract of sale. A conveyancer or solicitor typically handles these legal aspects.
Before purchasing, you would need to verify that the land title is free of encumbrances (like unpaid mortgages or easements) that could affect your use of the land.
A conveyancer like Gippsland Conveyancing can ensure all legal requirements are met, including the correct registration of the land with the Land Use Victoria. Legal fees for land purchases in Victoria typically range from AUD 1,000 to AUD 2,500.
8. Are there any ongoing development projects in Morwell that might affect land value?
Development projects like infrastructure upgrades, new commercial centers, or housing developments can significantly impact land values by improving accessibility and desirability.
The Gippsland Rail Line Upgrade is an ongoing project that could increase property values by improving transport links to Melbourne and other major areas.
Agents like PRD Nationwide often have inside information on upcoming developments. Purchasing land in areas with planned developments can be a good investment, as these projects often lead to increased demand and higher land prices.
9. How close is the land to essential services like schools, hospitals, and shopping centers?
Proximity to essential services enhances the convenience and value of the land, particularly for residential buyers. It’s important to consider how far the land is from these amenities when purchasing.
Land within walking distance of Mid Valley Shopping Centre or Morwell Central Primary School is likely to be more valuable and in higher demand than land further away.
Real estate websites like realestate.com.au or agents like Harcourts Real Estate provide maps showing nearby amenities. Properties close to essential services typically sell for a premium compared to those in more remote areas.
10. Is financing available for purchasing land in Morwell?
Financing for land purchases is available from banks and financial institutions, though terms may differ from those for home loans. Land loans often require a higher deposit and may come with higher interest rates due to the perceived risk.
Commonwealth Bank might offer land loans with a 20% deposit requirement and interest rates slightly above those for home loans. For a AUD 100,000 land purchase, you would need a deposit of AUD 20,000.
Mortgage brokers or agents can help compare loan options. It’s important to factor in loan conditions such as interest rates, loan-to-value ratio (LVR), and any additional fees.
11. What are the typical property taxes for land in Morwell?
Property taxes, including council rates, are based on the land’s value and location. These taxes fund local services like road maintenance, waste collection, and public amenities.
For a parcel of land valued at AUD 200,000, annual council rates might be around AUD 2,000. These rates vary depending on the land’s location and the services provided by the Latrobe City Council.
The Latrobe City Council website offers a rates calculator to estimate taxes based on property value. Agents can also provide historical rate information for specific areas.
12. Are there any known future infrastructure projects in Morwell that could impact land value?
Future infrastructure projects, such as new roads, schools, or public transport, can greatly impact land values by improving accessibility and the desirability of the area.
The Latrobe Valley Authority’s plans for economic growth could include new infrastructure projects that enhance land values in Morwell.
PRD Nationwide or First National Real Estate can provide insights into upcoming infrastructure projects. Land near planned infrastructure improvements often appreciates faster, making early investments potentially lucrative.
13. How do I assess the soil quality of the land in Morwell?
Soil quality is crucial, especially for agricultural land or residential construction. Poor soil may require costly remediation before construction can begin.
If the land has clay-heavy soil, it might not drain well, leading to potential issues with foundation stability for any buildings. Soil testing by a geotechnical engineer can determine the suitability of the land.
Companies like SoilWorx offer soil testing services. Costs for basic soil testing start at around AUD 500, but comprehensive testing can cost upwards of AUD 2,000.
14. Is the land prone to flooding or other natural hazards?
Flood risk is a major consideration when purchasing land, as it can affect building safety, insurance costs, and property value. The Latrobe City Council provides flood maps and hazard assessments for Morwell.
Land near the Morwell River might be in a designated flood zone, requiring elevated construction or special permits. Flood insurance could also be more expensive for such properties.
Wilson Property or Harcourts Real Estate can provide flood risk assessments. Flood-prone land generally has lower purchase prices but higher long-term costs due to insurance and potential damage.
15. Can I view previous land surveys or title deeds before purchasing?
Access to land surveys and title deeds is essential for verifying boundaries, checking for easements, and ensuring the seller’s legal right to sell the property.
A previous survey might show that part of the land is subject to an easement for power lines, restricting how you can use that section of the land.
Your conveyancer or agents like Barry Plant Real Estate can obtain these documents from the Land Use Victoria registry. The cost of obtaining these documents is usually included in conveyancing fees.
16. What are the potential resale values for land in Morwell?
Resale value depends on various factors, including market conditions, improvements to the land, and changes in local infrastructure. Understanding potential resale values is important for long-term investment planning.
Land purchased for AUD 150,000 in 2018 in the Heritage Park Estate might now be worth AUD 180,000 due to increased demand and local development projects.
Agents like First National Real Estate can provide a Comparative Market Analysis (CMA) to estimate future resale values based on current trends. Market appreciation rates in Morwell have ranged from 3% to 5% annually, depending on the location.
17. How do I find out about any easements or rights of way on the land?
Easements or rights of way are legal rights allowing others to use parts of your land for specific purposes, like utility access or pathways. These can restrict your ability to build or develop the land.
A utility easement might prevent you from building a structure over certain parts of your land where underground cables or pipes are located.
Conveyancers like Gippsland Conveyancing can check for easements during the title search. It’s important to factor in these restrictions when planning any construction or development on the land.
18. Are there any land packages available that include house designs?
House and land packages are popular for buyers looking for a turnkey solution. These packages often include a plot of land and a pre-designed house, simplifying the building process.
A house and land package in the Heritage Park Estate might offer a 500 square meter plot with a 3-bedroom house design for AUD 350,000. Builders like Metricon or Dennis Family Homes often offer these packages with customizable designs.
Real estate agents or builders like Simonds Homes can provide details on available packages. Financing options for these packages may differ from standard land purchases, with lenders offering specific home construction loans.
19. What is the process for transferring land ownership in Morwell?
Transferring land ownership involves signing a contract of sale, completing a settlement process, and registering the new ownership with Land Use Victoria. A conveyancer or solicitor typically manages this process.
After agreeing on a sale price, both buyer and seller sign the contract of sale. The buyer then pays a deposit, and the conveyancer arranges the transfer of ownership during settlement.
Conveyancing services usually cost between AUD 1,000 and AUD 2,500, depending on the complexity of the transaction. Agents like Harcourts Real Estate can facilitate the process by coordinating with your conveyancer.
20. How can I verify that the seller has the legal right to sell the land?
Verifying the seller’s legal right to sell involves checking the title deed to ensure the seller is the registered owner and that there are no legal encumbrances or disputes.
The title search might reveal that the land is subject to a mortgage, meaning the lender has an interest in the property that must be resolved before the sale can proceed.
Your conveyancer or solicitor will perform a title search as part of the due diligence process. Ensuring clear title is critical to avoid legal complications later.

Star Wars Aftermath was my first Star Wars book
Hello my dears, I’m so excited to talk to you all about our first canon read: Star Wars: Aftermath by Chuck Wendig.
I first readAftermath back in 2015 after seeing The Force Awakens in theaters. I was so excited for Star Wars to be “back” and I loved the movie so much that I was ready to consume anything and everything Disney had to offer me. That led to me reading the “Journey to the Force Awakens” books, which were branded as lead-ins to the new movie and (indirectly) into the new canon.
At the time, I hadn’t read any old canon/Legends books, so I didn’t have a point of comparison. In fact, I disliked my experience reading Aftermath so much that I decided I wanted to read an old canon book to see what the difference was! Everyone from friends to social media influencers had always told me that the books were where it was at, so I believed that Legends had to have been better written than what I just read!
Story Highlights
Aftermath focuses mainly on a cast of misfits: Temmin Wexley, a child who runs a less than reputable junk shop; Norra Wexley, Temmin’s mother and a Rebel pilot; Sinjir, an Imperial deserter and former loyalty officer for the ISB; and Jas, a bounty hunter. At first glance, these four have nothing to do with each other, but the events of the novel will bring them together as a team.
Galactic events happen around our main cast rather than because of them, such as the Imperial remnant meeting above Temmin’s world of Akiva to discuss their strategy after Palpatine’s demise, Wedge Antilles being captured by the Empire, or the consolidation of the Rebel Alliance into the New Republic. These events have implications for the lives of our characters, but it all is happening in the background.
Overall, I would say the story of Star Wars: Aftermath reads less like an official Star Wars novel and more like a Star Wars D&D campaign somebody kept a transcript of. Our main cast feels like the sort of random characters four players concocted on their own and the game master had to contrive a way to bring them together so they could play.
Writing
Chuck Wendig’s writing style and especially his prose leave a lot to be desired. You can tell immediately that he spent very little time writing or editing this novel. Aftermath may have been rushed to deadline and comes across as a first draft at every turn.
Wendig also tries very hard to shoe-horn in some Star Wars swearing as often as he can, seemingly for lack of any other ideas for dialogue. Most of his attempts at humor fell flat for me with the exception of Sinjir and Jas’s miscommunication on the way down to the droid factory.
Well, I also chuckled every time the characters’ motivations boiled down to just “money.”
On the bright side, most of the interludes are actually both entertaining short stories and very informative about the state of the galaxy during this time. He covers a lot of ground from Coruscant to Tatooine, forming a general picture of where everyone is following Episode VI and what the power brokers of the galaxy are doing in Palpatine’s vacuum. And the book keeps a good pace, mainly because no time is ever spent dwelling on anything. It’s all forward momentum and it’s only a full-length novel because of all the interludes.
Review
I think we can and should expect better for a Star Wars book and thankfully there are better reads out there. However, if you’re just looking for a popcorn movie in book form, this is the one for you. You will get in and out without much fuss and the characters are fun enough.
What did you think while reading this book? And what were your expectations going into it?
Next time (April 2) we'll be reading Star Wars: The Truce at Bakura by Kathy Tyers. Let me know what you think!

Our experience and work ethic should mean more that what we do with our free time. This is not a problem at all companies. The Oscars were held on April 25. It was a bit of a yawner and why would a show set themselves up for an awkward end?? There was a commercial from P&G right before the broadcast that stated, “ Widen the screen so we can widen our view.” Nice sentiment. Mank had so many noms and only 2 wins. People looking their best to me were Leslie Odom Jr., Glenn Close, Riz Ahmed, LaKeith Stanfield, Colman Domingo, John Batiste, Mia Neal, Questlove (gold crocs and a mask!), Desmond Roe, Travon Free, Trish Summerville, Marlee Matlin, The Lucas Brothers, Andra Day, Carey Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried, Nicolette Robinson, Regina King and Margot Robbie. Laura Dern looked like Big Bird, there were just too many feathers. Tiara Thomas had feathers but they looked great. Angela Bassett had some power sleeves and Tyer Perry looked like a little boy. Hooray for Emerald Fennell for her win for original screenplay but not sure about the dress. And Viola Davis?? Dana Murray?? Ashley Fox?? Hmm?? Winners seemed to have trouble getting to the stage. They often refused the steps or the walkway and sort of climbed up the side. I did love the intimate setting and it did remind me of the old clips of years before. Sound of metal and Ma Rainey both won. Tyler Perry and for the first time, an organization, the motion picture and television fund, took home the humanitarian award. I was thrilled to see My Octopus Teacher win for Doc. I loved Crip Camp too, that was a hard category. The acting winners went in all directions. Many critics complained that the films were real downers . Nomadland won best picture. Michael Moore put it best I think. Of the films this year, he said, “They force you to look backward with 2021 eyes.”

Thursday-Saturday 6-8 August
Thursday
It has been a couple of cold miserable days. Yesterday was fairly wet, today has been very windy – but it is always wonderfully snug in our little house, especially with the heater on.
We hardly stepped out of the van all day except for a quick shower in the ablution block. We did some cooking, light washing, sorted Heather’s huge cache of wool and checked our stock of DVDs to see what else we needed to purchase. I also blogged, updated my birds list and made a few business phone calls. One way or the other, we filled in our day in cosy comfort.
Friday
We had to go out in the morning, at least to replenish our gas supply. One cylinder ran out a few days ago and we don’t know how much is still in the second one so we got a refill and reinstalled the cylinder in the morning. We did a bit of grocery shopping while we were out and our pantry and fridge are again filled to bursting with delicious goodies.
We took a short walk around the park late in the afternoon to work some of the kinks out of our muscles and joints but otherwise, we hid out away from the freezing wind all day. Heather did a lot of crocheting and we both worked on our ‘social media’ writing, but otherwise had little of excitement all day.
Saturday
Having analysed the Stage 3 restrictions carefully and read all the Q&As on several government websites, we have concluded that we are still allowed to go for drives with no distance or time constraints, subject staying in the car with the windows up or wearing a mask at all other times. We will therefore continue to take excursions every couple of days, assiduously eschewing contact with other people except when making occasional purchases.
We had ordered a couple more boxed sets of TV series DVDs from Sanity and had to collect one from their Warragul outlet (online orders and contactless collect only) and the other held for collection in-store in Traralgon. We collected the set from Warragul and drove on to Traralgon where we picked up the second one – as well as another set we saw whilst in the shop. On the way back to the car, we couldn’t help ourselves and invested in some delicious fried snacks to assuage our salt-and-grease-deprived appetites. We sat in the car and ate it with the rain hammering the roof and it was most gratifying.
Over breakfast, we had decided on a strategy that depended on the weather when we had completed our business in Traralgon. The forecast kept changing for both Sale and Noojee, and we had decided on an itinerary that would take us north and slightly west unless it looked like being good RAMSAR rambling weather in Sale. At crunch time, the forecast was moderately promising for Sale, but it was so miserable in Traralgon and we imagined that that weather would reach Sale within an hour or so of our arrival, so we simply couldn’t trust the forecast.
Instead, we drove a very circuitous route via Tyers and Rawson to the Thompson Dam where we ate our first course. The road further north looked pretty risky so we meandered south on some delightful roads near Baw Baw and Tanjil South then north again through Willow Grove and Hill End to Fumina. We saw two female Lyrebirds scuttling across the road as we drove north. Some of these places were hard to recognise – or perhaps we just blinked as we passed them, but we took a wonderful detour to (and a few clicks past) Fumina. It was a beautiful area but we could almost hear the Duelling Banjos. It was completely rustic with stereotypical hidden ramshackle farms with postcard crumbling, overgrown, abandoned houses and sheds, potholed tracks, and the odd(!) farmer leaning on his pitchfork or stoking a fire. Both ways, we passed a group of (successful) deer hunters enjoying a beer or five around their covey of dilapidated trucks and grunt machines. We got a wave from them, but there was no way we were going to stop to chat!! It was absolutely beautiful – a slightly exciting experience but quite fun sliding around the mud roads.
The forests in this whole area are sensational. It is a logging area, but there were plenty of places where the entire middle distance was obscured behind a curtain of magnificent tall straight Mountain Ash giants. Their trunks and strips of bark provided a beautiful background of pale orange, cream, chocolate, blue-grey and black – and a multitude of shades in between - all topped with a hundred dark greens. Extraordinarily beautiful! We drove through many kilometres of forest where the road was littered with bark, leaves and branches brought down in the ferocious winds we have had in the past few days. A crew had obviously been through and chain-sawed enough out of the big trees that were down across the road for us to be able to get through but a huge amount of smaller stuff (and the occasional rockfall) was all over the road and we often had to drive around it on the wrong side of the road. This just added to the fun of the drive.
We ate our second and third courses at Tangil Bren – as close as we can get to the Snowfields without carrying chains. We had to abort a detour near Mt Baw Baw earlier in the day because chains were required but it was time to head homewards anyway after Tanjil Bren. We went back through Noojee and as we were leaving, we encountered a road block half a kilometre out of town – 4 cop cars and 6 fire trucks. We assumed that there was some sort of emergency, but all the guys were just milling around their vehicles and chatting, so we concluded that they were just starting an exercise of some sort. We had to detour through the scrub to get past them (they had made a track for any traffic) but it was then all plain sailing until we arrived back home for hot showers and another magnificent meal.

1.16.18 Dead Cold Winter
The past couple weeks we have seen downpours, snow, bright sunny days, and cold frosty mornings. This has surely been a Winter of ups and downs. Monsoon rains bring our rivers up and the following dry, cold pulls them back down. If you’re able to hit the water right, you’re in for some good days.
Steelhead
We are still in our “early” season but fishing is picking up. Between our locals “S” rivers and the OP, you have plenty of water to dip your toes in. Fortunately, for all those dwelling in the Seattle sprawl, the Skykomish just reopened for Steelhead fishing and will resume the normal season. The Skagit has had glimmers of fish when the conditions are right and we have been seeing a few big fish being picked out in some of the rivers on the OP. In our recent low and clear conditions, we are throwing heavy tips and lightly weighted flies. Focus on the deeper parts of runs and work the buckets heavily.
We still have availability for the OP this coming season and will be opening up more space shortly. Give the shop a call if you want to book a trip! (206) 708-7250

Puget Sound
The past couple weeks on the Sound have been ridiculous. In a fishery that we often dub as “predictably unpredictable”, it has been exactly the opposite. Even with the crazy tides that we have experienced, the fish are voracious and coming so close to your feet that you could tickle them. Hot flies have been the Coastal Critter, Glass Minnow, and Mini Deceivers. In addition, for those fly tyers out there, throw a bit “pop” into your fly. Try orange, chartreuse, or pink baitfish. You will be surprised at the response you receive with bright colors this time of year.
Yakima/Cle Elum
The Yak is still fishing great despite the colder weather. Our best luck has come on bigger streamers as we have found that the fish willing to move for a fly will want to make the most out of their caloric output. In addition to that, you can really pick apart a hole using Euro Nymph techniques and tungsten jig head flies (can be found at our shop). The best part of the day is going to be when the sun is highest and the water warms up slightly. The fish will take advantage of the more comfortable conditions so fish hard when you can be most effective.

Cheers!

Manual switchup to rail
#Manual switchup to rail how to#
This is similar to the brand name “Tempo”, which is often used as a synonym for a “paper handkerchief” today. By the company Rollerblade it became to trend, that inline skates were also often called as “Rollerblades”, which has prevailed until today as recognized synonym for inline skates. Since then, they are equipped with ball bearings and good rolling properties. This was the true birth of the inline skates. That year, the hockey player Scott Olson founded the company Rollerblade. The real breakthrough of inline skates was more than a century later, to be exact in 1979. The arrangement of the wheels brought and brings today the advantage of a safer body posture, a better balance and a higher maneuverability, than with inline skates. As the today’s roller skates, they already had two wheels mounted side by side. The first roller skates were developed in 1863 by the American James Leonard Plimpton. This was also the reason why the first inline skates could not really prevail and were quickly replaced by the development of the first roller skates. Unfortunately at that time the conditions of the floors, roads, paths and squares was still very bumpy and for a long time not comparable to those we have today. He also designed skates by fitting them with several steel wheels standing one behind the other. The first patent for an inline skate was granted on Apto Robert John Tyers of London. Basically, the prototype was an ice skate, on which Jean-Joseph Merlin has attached two metal wheels. He is generally considered the inventor of the very first roller skate. This was already constructed in 1760 by a Belgian man called Jean-Joseph Merlin. The idea of the very first prototype of an inline skate comes from ice skating. Short trip into the history of inline skating What are inline skates, how did they come about and why are there so many different ones? Picking the Right Fly Fishing Flies
Looking for flies or fly tying equipment? Let I LOVE FLY FISHING help you. Their selection of flies for fly fishing is large and they have just as wide a range of fly tying tools and materials. Simply browse their website to find what you need and place your order online. They offer high-quality fly fishing flies and fly tying equipment that is affordable as well.
Flies are an essential part of the magic of fly fishing whether you buy them or tie them. I LOVE FLY FISHING is a great destination for both beginners and experienced fly fishers to get their gear. The online store specialized in everything fly fishing and has an active blog and video section that has up-to-date information and fishing reports so it’s worth stopping by even if you aren’t in shopping mode.
Most artificial flies aim to imitate aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates or let’s just call them bugs but there are also many that imitate fish like many streamer patterns do. Different fly patterns are often tied to catching different fish species. There are many fly fishers who like to tie their own artificial flies instead of buying them. However, not every fisher has the time or patience to handle this aspect of fly fishing! I LOVE FLY FISHING offers a great collection of high-quality artificial flies, so you can rest assured to find different patterns designed for various fishing techniques.
In fact, it can be hard to select the right fly fishing flies. However, by making contact with I LOVE FLY FISHING staff you will get the advice you need to get the flies you need to catch the fish you want. The selection of proven, quality flies include flies to catch:
brown trout
rainbow trout
salmon
snapper
kahawai
kingfish
The flies are hand-tied by professional fly tiers, so the quality is great. I love fly fishing. I am able to provide these quality flies at affordable rates due to the volumes they deal in and work directly with professional fly tyers.
It goes without saying that fly fishing is very different from “gear fishing” as the more standard methods like spinning or bait fishing are often called. That is why buying high-quality fly fishing flies is important. They imitate the different foods that the fish feed on. So the main aim is to fool the fish into taking the fly. Fly fishing was used mainly for trout fishing in the past, but nowadays fly fishing is used for many other species, even saltwater species like snapper, kingfish, and kahawai here in New Zealand.
Don’t hesitate to visit. I LOVE FLY FISHING and pick the right flies or fly tying materials and equipment you need. The website is user-friendly, so you won’t have any problems when ordering their tried-and-true, ever-popular fly fishing equipment. Fly fishers trust I LOVE FLY FISHING whether they are just getting started or they are already seasoned fishermen. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to their newsletter to get the latest information as well as special offers.
