“Tea..! Fresh tea!” the Tea Master calls out from his stand, a warm smile on his face as he serves the warm, magical tasting beverage from his ceramic teapot. The sound of the pouring liquid into the wooden, hand-carved cups made from a weeping willow coming over the little girl in front of the stall, waiting impatiently to get her taste of this magical tea. “Here you go, little one. Careful now.. it’s piping hot.” The Tea Master warns, but the girl does not heed his words, gripping onto the cup and hurrying off to her mother. The Tea Master laughs, looking down at his ceramic teapot, he ponders.. What would it be like to have a child of his own?
“Welcome to the world, little one..”
Awakening with a shock, you sit up with a teapot mysteriously placed on your lap, you can’t help but feel familiar with the feel of it. Looking around, you have been placed in the middle of an overgrown plot of land with a simple, yet mysterious wooden mailbox next to you. You stand up and realize.. this is the new life you’ve been given, and you must make the best of it.
Hello friends! Thank you for stopping by! Underneath the cut will be my very first Legacy challenge on this blog! It's a Tea Inspired Legacy! I hope you enjoy!
I apologize in advance, this post will be long, but I hope it'll be worth it for you! Or I will disappoint you as much as EA's new packs do-
Before we begin, I'd like to clarify some things and give some general notes that might be good to keep in mind for this challenge! As well as tag some creators that were a HUGE help with this challenge! Thank you so much to @magpietrait @nicatnite88 @vibratingbed @forbiddenwhims and @pluto-sims for the help with this challenge!! They were all a big help with giving me motivation, inspiration and feedback! Kisses for all of u gimme ur autograph pls ty ♡ Dividers by @/cafekitsune here on tumblr!
❥ 1. Please do not feel pressured to conform to every single rule I've set in this Legacy Challenge! If you feel it is stressing you out, CHANGE IT! Nobody will get mad at you, not me, not anybody. Focus on having fun instead of feeling like it's a chore.
❥ 2. Please tag me in your stories, edits and sim screenshots for this legacy!! I want to see what you guys do with this. Of course it's no requirement, but it'd make me a very happy little dude!
❥ 3. If you are having struggles with choosing a name for each Tea Generation, feel free to use the actual generation name instead! Though, there's a lot of tea out there, so I don't think that will be an issue.
❥ 4. Keep in mind that you're allowed to mix and match the traits and aspirations I've chosen for each generation! And if those traits don't work out for your story, feel free to pick your own!
❥ 5. Don't feel like you have to make your sim a specific style, if you have an idea for your Generation Heir/Founder, go nuts!! I encourage creativity on this blog! i love seeing ppls sim ocs fr pls go nuts im begging u
❥ 6. You may mix and match with the generation order! If you feel that something would be more fun to complete now, go right ahead! Or if you feel a specific Tea Name would better suit the sim you're working on right now, feel free to shuffle the names around!
❥ 7. You can play on whatever lifespan you want, no rule for that. Whatever you feel is the optimal for you! Normal, Custom or Long, doesnt matter!
Now for the General Rule Set! These will be your Foundation for your legacy challenge, and these are the ones I highly recommend you do not change, as they're what sets the groundwork for your stories! At least I'd like to think that--
❥ 1. The most important rule of them all, there must be a teapot somewhere in each Generation house. See it as an heirloom from the Tea Master! Why it's in the spot it is, what attachment your sim has to it and why they decide to keep it is completely up to you! It can be any sort of teapot, CC, Functional or purely a Decoration, doesn't matter as long as it looks like a teapot!
❥ 2. You start out with 1800 Simoleons and choose a bigger plot of land. You may not move from this plot of land until the last generation is finished.
❥ 3. For every world outside of the one your sims live in you must pay a Bus Ticket Fee of 50 Simoleons. If you own the High School Years pack, going to school or prom will not require you to pay the fee, as school buses exist. You also do not need to pay when traveling to different neighbourhoods in the same world as your home, as you can walk to the block down the street but cant walk from Los Angeles to New York City.
❥ 4. You must start off the Legacy as a Teenager! You are not allowed to have part-time jobs during your time as a teenager, you need to live off of the land.
❥ 5. You may add as many gameplay mods as you want, however you may not use cheats to increase skill gain, funds or needs, you may not use cheats to boost your career, delete moodlets or add moodlets to your sims. Only some exceptions that will be stated in the rules when they come up.
❥ 6. You have to name your sims after the tea type stated in their generation! So for example, Generation 1 could be named Earl Gray as a first name and Tea as a last name! (The last name is required.)
❥ 7. Your lot must have the 'Simple Living' Lot Challenge. For an extra challenge you may add the 'Off-the-Grid' Lot Challenge too.

Thank you so much for taking the time with reading this post! I hope you enjoy the challenge, even if its just for the storytelling part! This is my first time making any challenge so I'm sorry if the challenges are underwhelming, but I hope that it won't be too easy! I'm not sure if this is actually doable because I am garbage at actually doing legacy challenges- Have a great day friends~

Get to know you: Sims Style
Ty for the tag @executables-sims. ^^
What’s your favorite Sims death?
idk this time, whoops. I haven't had a sim die in my game except by old age for a while. 🤔
Alpha CC or Maxis Match?
Both? Is that an option? Both. Really, I like aspects of both and so I blend both in my game. Alpha hair and clay hair, maxis match objects and realistic objects, whatever, if it fits in my game I'll use it.
Do you cheat your sims weight?
I used the SimBlender to change some of the models fit states on my last download post; otherwise, no.
Do you move objects?
I move so many objects, baby 😎
Favorite Mod?
My enormous hacks folder makes this hard to answer, lol. I'll shout out Epi's Baby Personality mod, b/c finally I'm getting some sims with more than 0 to 1 nice points born in Middleground again.
First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack?
It was Pets. Because I've always been an animal lover and it came out right after I started playing.
Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing?
It's still LIV mode and I'll still die on this hill.
Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?
Made? Idk, I don't often make sims to play (I think I picked Jackie from Far Valley last time), so I'll show you my favorite born in-game sim!
is anyone surprised (if you're new here, that's Clara Blanch)
Have you made a simself?
Yeah, but she no longer exists in my sim bin and no one gets to see her.
Which is your favorite EA hair color?
Black? I guess? Idk, I don't really have a favorite hair color.
Favorite EA hair?
Hmm, I don't remember what I answered last time I did this one. I think the little half-up ponytail from Seasons.
Favorite life stage?
Is it a cop-out if I say everything besides the infant stage? (Does that one even count? They're basically potatoes.) Playing this hood for so long, I've come to enjoy playing sims through each of their life stages. Toddler and kid are cute; teen stage is fun because I get to explore their personality and interests more, and ofc there's budding romances for sims who are into that; adult stage, I get to build their lives and see what their own family turns out like; and elders in my game usually get to relax and savor things once they retire, and spend a lot of time with their family and friends and hobbies, which can be a nice change of pace.
Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?
insert both is good gif from @executables-sims's post here
Are you a CC creator?
Sometimes!
Do you have any Simblr friends or a Sim Squad?
Yeah, though the concept of a sim squad is so funny to me for some reason.
Do you have any sims merch?
Nope
Do you have a YouTube for sims?
Nooooope. I like to watch some simmers, especially speedbuilds (shout out to @kayleigh-83 and @nervosims for their great speedbuild vids!), but no one would enjoy me flitting back and forth between seven different things at once, lmao
How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?
Play style or aesthetic style? They've both changed over time. Gameplay wise, I really only stick with Middleground and my rotational play now, whereas I used to start (and abandon) a lot of legacies, tried at least one BACC, just random sims that were fun to play. Aesthetically... hmm, you know, I'm not sure this has changed *that* much. Here's Clara circa 2011:
I use more matte skins now, and the style of clothing I download has probably changed the most, but I could absolutely recreate this pic without downloading anything new, including the CC stuff in the background.
Who’s your favorite CC creator?
Don't make me pick one!! If you're really interested, check my sims pinterest in my pinned post, I'm sure there's patterns there.
How long have you had Simblr?
*checks archive* ...Ten years next May, yikes!
What expansion/gamepack is your favorite?
Hmmm, I'm going to say Apartment Life this time. I've really been enjoying playing witches lately, and it added a lot of buy/build items I like. Or maybe Uni??? No, AL it is.
Tagging, uhhh, I'm a little late so sorry if you already did this and I missed it!: @isimchi, @tvickiesims, @episims, @anachronisims, @sushigal007

some sims questions!!!!
tagged by @pooklet ty!!
What’s your favorite Sims death?
oh gosh, okay, tbh, in general idk if i have a favorite, i do like a classic death by old age just because it makes me feel accomplished, lol, but specifically i think it'd have to be the time forrest bonnet died of cardiac explosion the literal second i hit play once i finished building his house 😂
Alpha CC/Semi-realism or Maxis Match?
idk why but i am definitely more maxis match for ts4 and semi-realistic for ts2? it just feels RIGHT to me
Do you cheat your sims weight?
only for my story sims, in the spirit of keeping things semi-consistent between chapters, because i swear sim stede gains weight faster than any sim i've ever played, and sim ed often ends up TOO BUFF from all of his energized swimming 😂 other than that, i do not, i just let them do their own thing. i dont really use too many custom body shapes for ts2, but definitely coming back to it after playing with the diversity in ts4 has been a bit jarring, but also custom body shapes are a lot of work so. idk what the solution is!
Do you move objects?
is this a real question?
Favorite Mod?
HMMMMMMMMMM! i'd say ACR, the shiftable everything mod, and for ts4 of course ye olde wickedwhims 🤭
First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack?
idk whatever the first sims 1 ep was??? i think? my friend had it and we played it at her house in 4th grade (well, she played, i watched because she wouldnt let me actually play it, lol) and then my parents bought it for me that easter and ive been hooked ever since 😂
Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing?
living!!!!!!!!!! absolutely mindfuck to realize that some ppl DONT pronounce it that way 😂
Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?
ed and stede in ts4, altho i didn't TECHNICALLY make their bases, but i have done sooooo much to them and i am so attached they are like my children
prob val in ts2, lol, i am big on fandom sims i guess!!!!
Have you made a simself?
yeah!!!!! in ts2 and 4!
Which is your favorite EA hair color?
uhhhhh, like, for ts4? probably a pink, ofc, lol. natural colors??? idk no preference!
Favorite EA hair?
this is so specific idk i mostly use custom hairs tbh
Favorite life stage?
young adult/adult in ts4 and adult in ts2 for sure
Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?
oh both! i love gameplay but i also have to have it very aesthetically pleasing, if it's not fun for me to look at im not interested
Are you a CC creator?
yeeeeeee @ailuromancys
Do you have any Simblr friends or a Sim Squad?
@angelapleasant @dirk-dreamer @simper-fi are all sim friends who i have formed lasting irl friendships with 🥰 altho i am soooo bad at keeping in touch with ppl anymore and i feel so bad abt that, they are still my favorites
@pooklet is top tier as well!!! 😊
@emperorofthedark i know it's been ages but you also!!!!!!!
Do you have any sims merch?
...no?
Do you have a YouTube for sims?
oh my god, no. the way i alternate between normal speed and triple speed should be outlawed, i cannot imagine it would be any fun to watch AT ALL
How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?
i think mostly i've gotten better at taking and editing pics? gos was pretty much my introduction to sims cc (with the exception of some sailor moon skins/heads i had for ts1 that my dad had to help me install 😂) so that had a HUGE influence on my style that i never really strayed from. i think i toned it down a bit in ts4, but at my core, i am still very neon/grunge oriented
Who’s your favorite CC creator?
@pooklet @skulldilocks currantpotpie @angelapleasant @dirk-dreamer @leaf-storm @simmer-until-tender do you see a theme here?
How long have you had Simblr?
2010 i think! holy shit.
How do you edit your pictures?
for tumblr i crop them to 800x500, use the honeycomb psd (with a vibrance layer added) and then use pooklet's sharpening action
What expansion/gamepack is your favorite?
HMMMMMMM. this is a tough one. possibly seasons for ts2? ts4 i cannot even say, because there are so fucking many lmfao it's disgusting 😂
taggin whoever wants to do this!!!!

Sims tag
Got tagged by @episims ty :> ✨
(this post is so long my dudes ;_____;)
What’s your favourite sims death? Hmmm... THE VIOLING BATTLE WITH THE CRIM REAPER IN THE SIMS 2 PS2 VERISON!!! LIKE BRO- !! but it's not a death tho ;___; aaaaa... maybe like dying of embarrassment beeing yourself in sims 4 just because it was the most emotion I had in sims game. Maybe secondary was sim specific death of Irene Johtojärvi where sims cheered when she died xD.
Alpha CC or Maxis Match? Maxis match :O
Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? Nope, in sims 2 is actually hard to keep someone not fit... like expecially with the being so addicted to the damn exersice bike (¬_¬ ) !!
Do you use move objects? Yes.
Favorite mod? OOÄÄ- ??? I dunno man, I have too many like must have mods. But maybe the community time one? like you can't really play with all the family members in other sims games like you can with this in sims 2. Like in sims 3 and sims 4 I just mostly play with like one sim, but with this I kind of like extra time to focus on this sims life without missing out on the rest of the household? I dunno. Like it's not perfect, but it really revolutionized my gameplay.
First expansion/game/stuff pack you got? With sims 2 i have like no idea (I was really young visiting my friend's house), after that I got ultimate collection I think?. With all of the games sims busting out for PS2 was my first sims game. (lol pien lukihäiriö minä luki sen ain et ryntää raiteille O__O)
Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing? Live...? i dunno 🧍♂️ ...like live tv?
Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? Hmm prop all the ones with asymmetry. Tbo I like seeing the game mix me children with the ones i have created more than the ones I have created.
Have you made a simself? Maybe when I was a child?
What sim traits do you give yourself? unstable, commitment issues, easily impressed, overly emotional, perfectionist/proper 👁👁
Which is your favorite EA hair color? all I can say is that i hate the yellow blond ;____;
Favorite EA hair? maybe these? (I tbo like most of them, but these have my fave colors and textures too on top of the mesh)
13. Favorite life stage? Adult :/ I do like teens, but maybe if they had even more freedom
14. Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? Hmm… I like really like both and they like inspire each other. So I would say both!
15. Are you a CC creator? Nah, I just know how to edit the location of stuff and maybe some minor changes?
16. Do you have any simblr friends/a sim squad? I do know couple of people irl who play sims 4? But not really :o
17. What’s your favorite game? (1, 2, 3, or 4) How is the Sims busting out not in here?????? 10/10 😌👌
18. Do you have any sims merch? no.
19. Do you have a YouTube for sims? nope. It could be fun tho :o
20. How has your “sim style” changed throughout your years of playing? I pay more attention to smaller things. I sometimes just let my sims do whatever and sip my tea. I don't try to make the play as "prefect" I make more sims who are unhappy/poor/unempoyed.
21. What’s your Origin ID? no. O_O
22. Who’s your favorite CC creator? I like you all bitch 🔪🔪😘
23. How long have you had a simblr? since 2019 👁👁
24. How do you edit your pictures? I crop them and add some blur effect to the background with krita (it's kind of shitty tho xD but who cares) and them might do some like darkening effect on the side of the picture. Depends on if I'm in the mood to be fancy or if the picture needs it? I'm really not good at this aspect so I still have lots to learn.
25. What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next? If you think about it, with CC we can get all the expansions we could ever want. Only creativity, skill and time is our barriers. 👁👁
26. What expansion/game/stuff pack is your favorite so far? The Mansion and Garden one!
I tag: I have seen this around a lot <.< but if you haven't been tagged consider yourself tagged! You can add me just normally ✨👌

ty for the tag @simmer-until-tender!!
1. what’s your favorite sims death?
death by fright is fun with how it can escalate, ghosts killing people to create more ghosts killing more people... i enjoy the chaos of a very haunted house 😈
2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match?
i lean more maxis match these days but i don't have a strict aesthetic
3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight?
i assume this is more about ts4, i hardly ever see sims gain weight in ts2. but in either case nah
4. Do you use move objects?
of course, i'm not much of a builder tho
5. Favorite mod?
hmmmm there's soooo many i consider essential but if i had to play with just one mod i guess it would be the sim blender
6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got?
ts2 university! and it's still a fave, i love playing dorms
7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing?
i always assumed it was like aLIVE until the behind the sims summit which was the first time i actually heard someone from EA say it out loud lmao. ive tried to adjust to say LIVing but it still sounds wrong
8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?
im gonna go with Clementine Bosden, the C heir of an alphabet legacy i attempted in 2011 (which got nowhere near Z, lol). she's a family sim with 1 nice point which is a hilarious combination to me. pictured here raging in the park for some reason & cheating at chess with her wife (an aged-up Chloe Gonzaga). ahhhh digging up these screenshots makes me wanna pick that hood back up again....
9. Have you made a simself?
the last one i made was in 2016 when i had an undercut... not terribly accurate ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
10. What sims traits do you give yourself?
using TS3 traits... Vegetarian, Computer Whiz, Brooding, Loves the Outdoors, Animal Lover
11. Which is your favorite EA hair color?
again i assume this is more about ts4. but i am a fan of the various ts2 rainbow mohawks
12. Favorite EA hair?
it's basic but i've used the french braid hair a lot
13. Favorite life stage?
the younger stages are cute but it's gotta be adults, that's where the most gameplay is at
14. Are you a builder or are you in it for the game play?
building is a STRUGGLE for me, im here for the gameplay. although lately i've spent more time reading about how the game works & poking around in simpe than actually playing haha
15. Are you a CC creator?
nah, i've messed around a little with texture edits but im more interested in making mods than CC
16. Do you have any simblr friends/a sims squad?
me n my gf play sims together a lot but besides that not really
17. What’s your favorite game (1,2,3,4)?
ts2!!!
18. Do you have any sims merch?
i have some sims themed stickers from redbubble...
19. Do you have a youtube for sims?
well i have a sub-account on my youtube just for all the sims youtubers i subscribe to so i can keep up with them without it all being mixed in with all my other subscriptions on my main account. but no i don't make sims videos myself. i do like to imagine the sims video essays i would make if i had a infinite time to spend on that sort of thing but i doubt i ever will 😅
20. How has your “sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?
my MO is usually to start with one sim, have a bunch of kids & then a bunch of grandkids, get overwhelmed by the number of sims i'm managing & then abandon the family. but now i'm setting up an uberhood to play with LD's story progression and im very excited to see how it goes when i can just focus on one household and let everyone live their lives without me :)
21. What’s your origin ID?
it's simbly but there's nothing on there
22. Who’s your favorite cc creator?
tbh i've been avoiding going down the cc rabbithole for now... i have a ton of stuff bookmarked to check out later but idk what i'll end up using.... i'm picky about keeping my files organized and wrangling my huge mods folder has been enough of a headache, the amount of cc out there is even more overwhelming >.<
23. How long have you had a simblr?
only since fall 2022, ive been on tumblr since 2013 but this account is pretty new, i'm just getting back into the sims after not playing for a long time!

Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Intro
Tagged (kinda) by @heyitsharding - ty for the starters!
Basics: What’s their name? Their culture? What’s their background? What do they look like? What’s their class? Ilina Gavren, also goes by Gan or Lia but I named her Gan in-game; pronouns - she/her/they/them. Gan is a wood elf that’s a rogue with a charlatan background. While dual wielding is an option, I decided to go mostly ranged with Gan. Since hitting whatever level they are (I don’t remember LOL), also added the arcane trickster subclass. Here’s a picrew recreation:
Are they a totally new character for this game or are they ported in from another 5e game you play? Gan currently exists in the Dragon Age universe but not in DnD. I thought she’d fit well in the world though so in they went!
Do you have a picture to share? In-game from what I could cobble together:
Do they fit on the traditional DnD alignment? If so where? Neutral evil
Who do they get on best with in the party? So far, Astarion and Shadowheart with occasional approval from Lae’zel even though I have yet to add them to the party.
And worst? Wyll by far. Gan might as well be a straight up villain to him.
Any romance blossoming? Hoping for that Astarion ship <3
Are they a proud Baldurian? No comment yet because I haven’t really thought about it since I’m still learning about the world.
Do they have any family back home? If so tell me about them? I decided to keep her DA background mostly intact with only one change being both parents are still alive. Mother’s name is Nethari and father’s name is Sohon. Still deciding if I want to fill out her background with more of her DA universe family members or not.
Are they engaging with the illithid? Or avoiding contact? Gan uses the tadpole whenever they can. If she’s going out, she will have lived to the fullest and done whatever she wanted lol
What do you hope will be the next steps in the game for them? Haven’t even considered it because I’m not thinking beyond the EA. Just want her to have fun, be gay, and do crime LOL

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst - A (critical) love letter.
Hello and welcome back to another episode of “a review I thought I could never write because I’m way too emotionally attached to this game which I know insanely, almost creepily well”, mixed with a healthy dose of “I should do everything but write this review because I want to finish school at some point but I have to use the surge of inspiration while it lasts”!
Today we will be talking about Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, which was released 2016 as a prequel-ly reboot (saying it like this because for the longest time I’ve thought it to be a prequel but turns out it’s a lot more like a reboot... my bad) to the first Mirror’s Edge from 2008 (which, by the way, still looks fantastic today considering its release year). I will occasionally throw in references and aspects from the first game as well, but this will primarily be about Catalyst.
Time for game 👏 review 👏!
And as always - warning: spoilers. I’ll try to keep the really huge ones out of this or at least mark them well, but going off and playing for yourself first is recommended.
To start this off, I want to say that I initially loved the first Mirror’s Edge - however, only after playing Catalyst, I realized how bad the controls and bugs in it actually were, which is another way of saying Catalyst is a miracle when it comes to naturally flowing controls and crisp and polished looking environments. The city it takes place in, “Glass”, is breathtakingly gorgeous, period. Shiny, clean, it is just on point and one of the biggest reasons I consider it to be my favourite game from the day I first played it, hands down. Not even one of the new Tomb Raider games or one of my childhood-reminiscent games were able to top it and that means something.
The game takes place in an open world map complex under a totalitarian government, drawing parallels to George Orwell’s “1984” – big brother is watching you, all that. A dystopian world if I’ve ever seen one. The open world aspect is one of the best decisions the developers could have made; I have no words to describe how beautiful the different city districts are, and being able to run in freeroam through the city of Glass like parkour runners are meant to feels so much better than being trapped in closed-off levels like it was the case in the first game.
When I first wrote down some key aspects for this review while I was playing it once more, I noted that apparently, you only truly understand the game’s backstory and the protagonists’ origins if you’ve bought and read the comic, Mirror’s Edge Exordium, and that I think it’s not that important because you can well understand what’s going on at the beginning without it – the game starts with Faith, the main protagonist, getting out of jail/a sort of juvenile detention, making her way back into her old circle of friends and family and, of course, old unresolved and new unconsidered problems and conflicts. The comic basically explains what has been messed up by who to make her end up in juvie in the first place and, as I said, it’s not really necessary to know. But, after having bought it now after literal years of consideration, I can say that it’s definitely very nice to know, and totally worth it. There are a lot of elements from the game carefully and lovingly worked into the comic and vice versa (I don’t know what was written first, comic or game, but they fit together very nicely), and just having more reasons, more answers, a larger overview and even partly some explanations for the first game feels... right.
The voice acting is good overall – not strikingly awesome but definitely up there, especially during emotional cutscenes. Sometimes the controls are a bit wonky and Faith might not immediately do what your fingers tell her to but that could definitely be on me - in games where fast reaction is important, quick time events can go wrong occasionally, nothing new. There are some passages you could consider a QTE but they’re being displayed early enough for you to be able to mentally prepare for them as far as I see it. And in my book, that’s a massive improvement from the first game, where you were able to press a button perfectly in time even while having reaction time (= a temporary slow mode) activated, and still watch Faith gracefully fall down the side of the building while flailing her arms in fear because she didn’t grab onto that perfectly grabbable practical white ledge. Why, you ask? I don’t know, ask Faith. Oh, you can’t, obviously made clear by the nasty sound of her hitting the road and her neck being snapped apart. Seriously, I cringed to the moon and back when I first heard that ugly sound. Which is another thing they improved in Catalyst; now all you hear is her quick, raspy, fear-filled breaths and a blissful silence paired with a white death screen after you’ve hit a death barrier. Not the ground, a death barrier. There’s a shitload of them. Which is a pity regarding the fact that a whole lot more out-of-bounds areas would be reachable and playable if there weren’t. Honestly, I find it kind of disappointing that there’s this many invisible walls, fall-through grounds and death barriers. I can see why, conserving computing resources to avoid loading screens, blah blah, but still... let me go off the map, dammit. The game is about a group of people living “off the grid”, why can’t the player actually do that? Hm? Hmmm?
Another aspect tying into this is the social playing mechanic(s), which I found interesting but indeed totally unnecessary. We all know leaderboards of races and stuff, which were incorporated here as setting the best time in short, timed courses (“dashes”), which naturally have been hacked and cheated into ridiculousness. No, RunnerMaster69, I do not believe you ran that dash in three seconds and 420 nanoseconds, I just don’t. Upon completing a dash, you leave an ‘echo’, so basically a ghost other players can compare themselves to, and for you to see which route another player took. Nothing too groundbreaking on that front. There’s a way of tagging locations you’ve been to: so-called Beat Link Emitters (Beat L.E.s) are like little chips shining red in the world you can put down wherever you’re able to stand safely and have them appear in other people’s games to touch, which is a nice way of incorporating a way of saying “Hey, look where I was able to climb!” (And yes, I have abused this system; there’s a glitch making it possible for Faith to float down high buildings onto lower ones, which aren’t death-barriered but not reachable on a normal way. You bet I was a floating gurl putting down Beat L.E.s whereeeeever I could. So much fun. Sorry.)
The same goes for hackable billboards, which can also appear in your friends’ games, but they could have been designed a lot more interestingly. If you hack a billboard, your runner tag appears on it, which consists of a visual symbol, a frame around it, and a background. You can customize the tag in a companion app, which again I didn’t really find necessary. But it is pretty self-explanatory and a nice gimmick if you’re into that kinda stuff.
Maybe an irrelevant aspect: Faith is wearing the same outfit (almost) throughout the whole game. Only at the beginning while getting to the runners’ lair she’s wearing something different and I see missed potential there: let the player run in these clothes, or in the prison clothes, or in the clothes from Mirror’s Edge 1, or in some of the fancy clothes Glass’ high society is wearing, or generally different runner’s attire which still stays true to the style, or Black November garb... endless opportunities, missed. Not at all crucial, but in my opinion maybe better than some different-looking billboard...
Coming back to the (back-)story aspect once more; as with all of today’s big triple-A games, there’s a looooot of documents and recordings to find, to give the player a loooot of backstory, which I found terribly overdone. It always felt like there was too much to collect and too few actual story told; not to mention some story bits not being in either of the games or their collectables, but in a separately sold comic, well done EA, well done.
Additionally, a lot of the documents were about literal history of the state called Cascadia and the ‘conglomerate’ and Omnistat and the November Riots (don’t worry if you have no idea what these words mean, I don’t either...) and regarding the fact that I finished taking history in school with a D ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)... you can imagine I wasn’t that interested in the actual history elements. Give me story anytime, but get the hi- prefix outta here please.
Another thing that I just very recently discovered: Some of the performed parkour movements are inaccurate. Thanks to my new interest of binging parkour tutorial videos I’ve seen actual mistakes in movement (in both games), which I can understand sometimes because some of them have been implemented on purpose and for a reason. For example: A parkour safety roll is performed sideways, with one of your shoulders hitting the floor first and the impact being absorbed and reduced by your whole back rolling over the ground in a diagonal line, ending in one of your feet carrying over the fall’s momentum for you to be able to stand up and run right along, probably even faster than before the drop. In the first game, this was handled straight up terribly; not only did Faith not roll diagonally but straight on her spine, which fuckin hurts if you perform it after you took a fall and is dangerous as all hell, but all her momentum got lost as well - it didn’t make any difference if you took a hard fall, the screen flashed red and you had to build new momentum, or if it was a soft fall with a nice (hurting and dangerous) roll, her stopping dead in her tracks like “Oh wow, did you see that, I made a roll” and then continuing to build new momentum because it all got lost. BUT since this is about Catalyst: Faith is still performing a straight spine-hurting-dangerous-as-all-hell-roll, but at least she keeps her momentum when she does it. Regarding to what I said at the beginning of this semi-rant-paragraph because I’ve “studied” (emphasis on the quotation marks) parkour theory so much at this point, yet am not able to actually perform any moves because I don’t have the strength, stamina or willpower to- Uh, where was I...? Ah, yeah, the reason for the incorrectly performed roll. It’s obvious when you think about it: motion sickness, a gamer’s best friend when it comes to first-person perspective. If Faith was performing a correct roll, it would turn and shake the camera around too much, which could potentially make the player motion sick over time. Period. Look up some first-person safety roll footage on YouTube and you’ll see what I mean. So, there’s a reason, and we should be thankful the roll is a straight gymnastics roll. Sorry Faith, looks like your spine and neck have to suffer a little longer. However, I can and will not understand why they have Celeste, a character from the first game, climb up ledges with her knees and elbows. No. NO. Feet first. If you can’t do feet first, then do one foot first and then pull up the rest. If you can’t do that, train more and don’t call yourself a runner yet, doing this for a living on top of I-dunno-how-high-rooftops.
My feelings are kind of ambivalent on the no-guns mechanics - all you can defend yourself with is your fists (and legs and momentum, of course), while in the first game, you could snatch people’s guns and start some weaponized combat. I liked both of these strategies, not really caring when they announced Faith not being able to do shootieshootie-pewpew this time around.
One thing I liked a lot considering the open world aspect is that if you die, you respawn exactly where you last stood on safe ground before dying (except in missions, of course). It makes freeroaming very comfortable because you don’t have to worry about respawn- and checkpoints; you can just try again when you messed up a jump.
They also changed the beacon- and navigation system (“runner’s vision”) a bit too, which was also definitely necessary for the open world (which they’ve praised as a lot less linear, but honestly? It isn’t really. I knew my way around in Glass pretty well after a mere month of playing), but they did include options for how much you want the game to help you. There’s normal runner’s vision, with a red streak appearing every few seconds, showing you exactly where to run; there’s classic runner’s vision, made to be like in the first game, with environmental beacons and indicators being coloured in red when coming close to them and without the red streak; and of course, you can switch it off completely, which I occasionally like to do to test how well I really know my way around in Glass.
The soundtrack is outstanding. Straight up phenomenal. It can empower and hype you up, but can also be relaxing during a relaxing sightseeing trip through Glass. And it’s also great to leave on as background music while studying (I’m making use of that when preparing for graduation exams), or driving.
There is dynamic day- and night time - I liked that a lot, it’s a good way of showing off the lighting at all sorts of times. Only problem I had: a night sky is supposed to be black, not royal blue.
Note: almost all the “problems” I’ve listed here have been made mods for (e.g. more exciting looking billboards, more outfits, a changeable day-night cycle and a black night sky). If I had enough experience with (and patience for) modding, I’d definitely try it myself but the ‘flaws’ aren’t grave enough for me to feel a desire to manipulate and tweak some game files.
Okay, time for a spoiler. Not a bad one, but one that could give you ideas if you know how Mirror’s Edge rolls, or if you’ve played the first game... which is basically a spoiler in itself too. Ahem, anyway.
Towards the end of the game, when I was profoundly convinced of it being one of my all-time favourites, I was like “Yes, finally a game that improves and learns from past mistakes and listens to their players and what they want”... and then came Noah. I bawled my eyes out and I will be forever angry at the devs for doing this. That’s all I’m saying.
That ultimately didn’t stop me from loving the game though. From an objective standpoint I’d say it’s an overall good prequel/reboot/requel/preboot. Faith’s universe became a bit more mainstream but also a lot more polished and they definitely listened to their fans to some degree. From the very subjective standpoint I have written this review from, I’m saying that Mirror’s Edge Catalyst holds a very special place in my heart and I am truly glad it saw the light of day, after everyone waiting 8 years for it to be released after the first game. (I didn’t wait quite that long; I got Mirror’s Edge 1 in January 2016 and was completely and utterly hooked and hyped for Catalyst in May 2016.)
And that concludes it. If you’ve read this far – thank you. I’m aware that this is a bit different from my other reviews tone-wise - I have put every ounce of sass I possess into this because I... felt like it :D I hope it was fun to read!
#and now please scream at me to study xD#mirror's edge#mirror's edge catalyst#faith#games#stefs game review

Ng Wins Inaugural Gulf Coast Tour Invitational
The Gulf Coast Women’s Regional Billiards Tour hosted an independent pool tournament for women, the first of its kind in Texas. Players were guaranteed six or seven matches in round robin stages, before they could be eliminated. The regional tour competition extended invites to Gulf Coast Tour players and a number of other regional tour players from the U.S. and Canada. The four-day, women-only 9-ball event, paid out $15,280, thanks to a culmination of players and sponsors, including Vapor Fiend, Cyclop Pool Balls, Poison Billiards, APA of North Harris County, Outsville Billiards, Skinny Bob’s Billiards in Round Rock, Texas, and the Gulf Coast Tour. The Tour would also like to thank Manuel Martinez of Zen Pool Studios, and sponsor Jon Lear, for providing a four-day live stream, at no cost to at-home viewers.
Ming Ng and Kelly Jones
On October 31st, 2019, the first Gulf Coast Tour Invitational commenced, drawing 58 competitors from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, and Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The first two days of the event featured eight groups of round robin competition, races to five; eight players in two groups, and seven players in six groups. Player advancement from each group was based on match wins, game wins, game losses, then head to head, in that order. Gulf Coast Tour players were seeded into the groups based on their 2019 Tour performance. On Friday evening, at the conclusion of round robin play, the top four players from each group advanced, with the top 16 seeded into a 32-player, double elimination board, based on their round robin performance. The event paid 50% of the field, and all 32 competitors surviving the round robin stage, received a payday.
Ng with Tournament Director, Kim Newsome
In group one, Ming “The Empress” Ng of Houston, Texas, suffered only one match loss to San Antonio’s Angela Garza, 5-2. The next best record was Houston’s Terry “The Terrorizer” Petrosino, with five match wins. Tam Trinh of Austin and Dallas’ Amanda Honaker also advanced with four wins each. In group two, Ellen Robinson emerged on top with six match wins, 34 games won, and only 12 games lost, while Angie Payne finished number two in the group, tying with Robinson on matches and games, but suffering more losses. San Antonio’s Naomi Garcia and Weatherford’s Chris Fields, tied with five matches each, also advanced from group two.
In group three, Kelly Jones of Mobile, Alabama and Ricki Casper of Dallas achieved perfect scores, with six match wins each. Jones suffered fewer games losses making her the top finisher in her group, while Casper settled into the number two spot. Sara Bork of Houston finished third, with five match wins, and although each player amassed four victories, Dallas’ Julie Comitini edged out Gail “Thunder” Roles of College Station, 24 games to Roles’ 23. In group four, Gail “Virginia Slim” Eaton booked the only perfect match score of the event, with seven wins. Pflugerville’s Kim “Texas Heat” Pierce slid into the number two spot with six match wins, while Austin’s Jennifer Kraber made it out with five. Edwidge Cavanna of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, was the final player to move out, with four match wins. In group five, Rachel Hurst came out on top with six matches and 34 games won, while Kia Sidbury of Baltimore, Maryland finished second, with six and 30 games won. Austin’s Michelle Abernathy and San Antonio’s Sophia Lopez moved on with four matches each. In group six, Kim Sanders of Austin took the lead with six matches and 34 games won, while Houston’s Natalie Rocha busted out with six matches and 32 games won. Tanya Parsley of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Yvonne Asher of Seabrook moved on, both with four match wins. In group seven, Austin’s Michelle Cortez took the number one spot, with six match wins and 32 games won, while San Antonio’s Kawania Watson booked six matches and 31 game wins. Margaret Fox and Toni “Copperhead” Esteves forged ahead, with five and four matches, respectively. In group eight, Ashley Rice of Atlanta, Georgia and Janeen Lee Gardner of Petal, Mississippi tied with six matches and 34 games. Rice booked 13 losses to Gardner’s 14, making Rice the top seed in the group, with Gardner sliding into number two. Houston’s Kim Reiner advanced with five matches, and the “Princess of Pool”, Teresa Garland, with four match wins.
Fields, Jones, Rice, Ng, Kraber, Sanders, Robinson, Casper
The top two players in each group were seeded into a 32-player bracket, in order of round robin finish. The remaining 16 players were drawn in randomly. The final stage format was races to seven on both sides, double elimination, with one, final race to nine. The first round began Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., and ran down to the final eight players for Sunday. On her way to the winners’ side final four, Kim Sanders took out Sara Bork, 7-4, Angie Payne, 7-3, and Janeen Gardner, 7-5, while Ashley Rice tagged Tanya Parsley, 7-3, Ricki Casper, 7-5, and Ellen Robinson, 7-2. Kelly Jones was on a tear, defeating Edwidge Cavanna, 7-3, Yvonne Asher, 7-3, and Jennifer Kraber, 7-2. Rounding out the final four, Ming Ng bested Margaret Fox, 7-1, Terry Petrosino, 7-6, and Michelle Cortez, 7-1. On the one loss side, advancing to the final eight, Robinson eliminated Kia Sidbury, 7-5, while Chris Fields slid by Gardner, 7-6. It was Casper over Cortez, 7-5, and Kraber surpassing Payne, 7-2, rounding out the remaining eight for Sunday. The final day of competition kicked off at 12:00 p.m. On the winners’ side, Rice defeated Sanders, 7-5, and Jones sent Ng west, 7-6, staging a Georgia versus Alabama, hot seat match-up. Rice and Jones traded games, but when the score reached 5-5, Jones shifted gears to win the set, 7-5. On the one loss side, Robinson eliminated Fields, 7-4, but fell to Ng, 7-4, while Kraber ended Casper, 7-3, and Sanders, 7-5. Ng stopped Kraber, 7-5, and took out Rice, 7-3, for a rematch with Jones. In the championship final, Jones was focused, pacing herself for a battle to the finish line. Coming off three match wins, Ng was on a roll, and utilized that momentum. Early in the set, Jones seemed in control, but Ng turned up heat, passing up Jones to win the set, 9-4.
Cortez, Asher, Pierce, Garland
The Tour would like to recognize Gulf Coast Tour Board Member, Ruth Paine, who worked tirelessly with Kim Newsome, to direct the four-day event. Board Members Kim Pierce, Toni Esteves, Ming Ng, and D’Andrea McQuirter, were also on-site to lend support, and Julia Acevedo created beautiful logo stickers for 58 player gift bags and 32 payout envelopes. On Sunday, Kim Pierce produced a Ladies 10-Ball Ring Game, which not only garnered 16 players, but provided a fun outlet for those not competing in the main event. Congratulations to Teresa Garland, Yvonne Asher, and Michelle Cortez who split the winnings. Several ladies left the event, a different kind of winner. Julie Comitini took home a Poison Armor 2×4 cue case and a Predator second skin glove, Diana Cardona scored a Poison VX5 Break Cue, and Pat Thomas won a Poison Cyanide3-1 Playing Cue, in the Invitational raffle.

Rating The Super Bowl Commercials
Posted by Alexander Wolfe, Feb 3, 2008 10:06 PM
As always, the real contest at the Super Bowl was among the commercials. (Admittedly, the game, in which the Giant upset the Patriots 17 – 14, was exciting, too.) On Fox, there were some 50 ads, which went for upwards of $2.7 million for each 30-second spot. Based on the preponderance of beer ads, it must be an American truism that you can never be too rich or have too much Bud Light.
There were also a surprising large complement of tech- and Web-site ads, which gives me my excuse for blogging this Super Bowl ad report-card. Dell (Dell), Go Daddy, Garmin (NSDQ: GRMN), Careerbuilder.com, and T-Mobile were all represented, albeit in mostly tepid fashion.
In crowded marketplaces, as in life, sometimes the best way to get one’s message across is to speak softly.
That was the case with the best commercial; admittedly not a huge honor amid such a weak field. Nevertheless, my winner is “Doritos Sing Along,” which stepped back from the smart-ass ad agency meme to feature a new singer, one Kina Grannis, doing her song, “Message From Your Heart.” There’s an interesting back-story here: The ad came out of Doritos’ “Crash The Super Bowl Challenge,” which Grannis won, along with a contract from Interscope Records.
In a less high-minded vein, I’m forced to admit that the most memorable ad was “Booooood Light.” This commercial for Bud seemingly attempted to flip stereotypes about non-English-speaking Americans on their ear, but only ended up reinforcing them in the most boorish manner. (Which is why this also was probably the worst among the Super Bowl ads.)
Here, then, are my ratings, in the order in which the commercial appeared during the Fox broadcast (tech ads noted via red titles):
1) Bud Light Dinner Date Fire-Breathing Guy. Unusually well-manner guy — presumably he hasn’t started tanking up yet — having dinner a deux at his date’s apartment. Demonstrating his biggest skill before the meal is served, he lights the candles the way most people blow them out. But then her cat enters the room and, being allergic, his sneezes ignite the rest of the room. Smokin? A little. B
2) Audi Godfather. Stealing a scene from the Coppola classic, a guy wakes up screaming, but to a car grill, not a horse’s head, in his bed. Interesting, if contextually misplaced, reference. Points for reinforcing the automobile’s brand; I’m mean, who even knew Audi was still a factor in the U.S. market? B
3) Diet Pepsi Max Announcer Guys. SuperBowl announcers Troy Aikman and Joe Buck appear on screen, so you almost think the game didn’t cut to commercial. But no, they’re “announcing” the intro to a commercial. A boring commercial, which doesn’t tip its hand until way too late to get me excited about Diet Pepsi Max. Pass me the Diet Coke. C
4) Animated Salesgenie Guy. I’ve always wondered about Salesgenie.com. Do you get 100 free sales leads, or do you get 100 free leads that work? The guys from Glengarry Glen Ross want to know. D
5) Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. House ad for Fox series about a superbabe with a steel plate in her head. (I’m not rating the house ads or the public-service announcements.)
6) Bud Light Cheese Wheel. Guys acting stupid over football and beer in the kitchen, while the pretty girls are left alone in the living room. What’s wrong with this picture? The commercial’s mildly effective, though, at tying the watery beer brand to youthful male camaraderie. B-
7) UnderArmour Nation. Another ad which was hard to place, I’m thinking, this has gotta be a Nike ad. Not the strongest brand when your ad’s look-and-feel suffers from such apparent me-too-ism, even more so when this company apparently occupies a unique niche as a purveyor of form-fitting athletic wear. C
8) Bud Light Screeching Animals. A bunch of rodents and an owl wailing as a car speeding down a winding country lane comes dangerously close but manages to avoid turning them into road kill. Not driven by a Bud Light drinker, I hope. What was this one about? Couldn’t tell until the end, when the Bridgestone tire logo appeared. B-
9) Doritos Sing Along. The one straight commercial which didn’t need schtick to make its point. The ad wasn’t about the chip, but rather has a new singer, one Kina Grannis, doing her song, “Message From Your Heart.” Very nice. A+
10) Prudential Retirement. Not memorable, though one might wish that these ads would be the ones that’d stick with you, rather than the booze commercials. We’d all be happier in our old age. C-
11) Derek Jeter for Gatorade. Who doesn’t like Derek Jeter? Plus, there’s no steroid taint. This one wasn’t flashy, but it’s effective. B
12) Go Daddy. This one hints at the Web domain registrar’s infamous Super Bowl ad of several years back, where a busty babe was poised to drop her top before a committee of superannuated Senators. (Hope they had a CPR kit handy.) This time, race car driver Danica Patrick, seen on a video screen — how meta is that? — threatens to peel down the zipper on her top. Why? Still, you gotta hand it to these guys: How many domain-name sellers are known to the general public? Undoubtedly just this one. B+
13) Buy Dell. A funky, MTV-generation commercial which picks up Dell’s new Red product theme. It moves, and is short and to the point. B+
14) FedX Carrier Pigeons On Steroids. Birds gone wild attack the city, prompting white-male middle manager to suggest that his younger minion pick FedEx (NYSE: FDX) for his future shipping needs. Huh? C+
15) Cars.com Doofus Death Match. A twenty-something buyer comes to the used car lot armed with data on his planned purchase, salesman doesn’t give him a hard time, so he says: “Good, otherwise I’d have you fight Klondor over there in a death match inside the wheel of fire.” Who says creativity is dead? For all that, I knew that this one was for cars.com right from the get-go. For this reason, it gets a B+
16) Tide Job Interview. As this one unspolled, I was thinking it had to be CareerBuilder.com, because I’d read they’d purchased a commercial. For CareerBuilder, this would’ve been cute, since it had a guy inappropriately talking past his interrogator during a job interview. However, since it was for a stain removal pen by Procter & Gamble’s flagship detergent brand, not so much. C-
17) Budweiser: Hank The Horse. Oh, I get it, he’s a Clydesdale, and he’s pulling a freight train, to the theme from Rocky, the better to prove he’s worthy of joining the beer-toting horse team. You know, if they spent one-fiftieth of the money they pour into beer commercials on medical research, they could cure cancer in a week. B
18) Iron Man, the Movie. Robert Downey Jr. is out of rehab and CGI-buff as the latest Marvel super hero to hit the silver screen. Coming this summer.
19) Toyota (NYSE: TM) Corolla. The high point of this very muted car ad is that the voice over was by the Peterman guy from Seinfeld. C
20) George Clooney, Leatherheads. Another movie ad.
21) Garmin GPS. Some kind of French vibe going on, with a Euro car driving through some non-American looking city, an actor dressed up like Napolean, and French rock ‘n roll in the background. Sorry, I only know Ca Plan Pour Moi. B-
22) CareerBuilder: Follow Your Heart. A throbbing, disembodied heart leaps off a keyboard and makes its way into the bosses office. Ah, this is the CareerBuilder.com ad. That sound I hear is Monster.com not being worried. C-
23) Thriller/Life Water. I really should know who that model bopping with a bunch of lizards to strains of Michael Jackson’s Thriller is. Naomi Campbell, right? (Nah.) A fun little commercial, in spite of itself. Loses half a grade since I still don’t know what Life Water is. A-
24) Yukon Hybrid from GMC. “Never Say Never.” To what, high gas prices? This commercial was so muted, it made me wonder what kind of internal constituency hybrid technologies have inside GM (NYSE: GM). Certainly, this is not one of Bob Lutz’s “gotta have” cars. D
25) Boooood Light. A continuation of Bud’s series where non-native speakers from India and China are initiated into doofus bad-beer lingo. This time, though, the ESL geek gets the pretty girl. This commercial is so idiotic and aberrant that it’s … memorable. So it gets a high rating, but please don’t tell anyone I said that. A
26) Planter’s Cashews. Unattractive 30-something woman bops down the street to strains of Frankie Valley’s 1967 hit, “You’re Just Too Good To Be True.” Grabs a handful of Planters nuts, still looks the same, but suddenly all the guys are chasing her. See, it’s not just about looks! Kinda heartwarming, actually. A-
27) Charles Barkley for T-Mobile. The cellular service provider is doing the hard sell for its “Friends and Family” plan, with the former basketball star calling his son, or maybe Dwayne Wade, or maybe both. I couldn’t really tell. Yawn. Hey, I’m still waiting for Sir Charles to run for the senate. C-
28) Justin Timberlake for Pepsi. The once and current pop star is hurled into the air, through traffic, and all about the city, literally, but survives. Dating Britney couldn’t have been this rough. B+
29) Doritos Chair Guy. Guy in chair eats Doritos, gets beaten up by guy in giant mouse suit. Forgettable. C
HALFTIME
30) Cars.com. Now our data-laden auto buyer is threatening to have the recalcitrant dealer’s head shrunk. Hey, it wasn’t funny the first time, but I get the “cars.com” tag, which is presumably why they paid the $2.7 million. A-
31) Salesgenie Panda. Now they’ve got an animated panda named Ling Ling, doing a Charlie Chan voice, pimping for the sales-lead site. In most workplaces, including mine, that wouldn’t be allowed. D-
32) Shaquille O’Neal Vitamin Water. The basketball star wins a horse race and gets a cold, nonalcoholic beverage as his reward. Most memorable moment: Little kid in stands inserting finger up nose. Decent (the ad, not the pick), but not Super Bowl-worthy. C
33) Bud Light Cave Men. In ad terms, this one is an oldie but oldie. D
34) Carmen Electra/Ice Breakers Gum. The breath-freshener preferred by “D” listers? D
35) Alice Cooper/Richard Simmons Bridgestone. In the second chapter of this tire saga, our winding-road driver has passed the animals and finds a couple of celebs in his path. There’s a couple of hundred bucks in it if you get them both, buddy. (I originally thought Alice was Ozzy Osborne, until a commenter below corrected me. Makes more sense; Ozzy doesn’t need the work.) B-
36) CareerBuilder’s Wishing. The job site tries to move the needle in its battle with Monster with this “Wishing Won’t Get You A Better Job” ad. Doesn’t. C-
37) E-Trade Baby. Toddler in high chair buys stock on line, upchucks. Like you or I, after we’ve checked our 401(k) balances the past few weeks. B-
38) Bud Light “Flying.” The watery brew now gives you the ability to fly, the ad posits. If you’ve been chugging every time a Bud ad has come on during the game, well, yeah. C
39) Music Girls For Sunsilk. Marilyn Monroe, Shikira, and Madonna for some kind of hair product (I couldn’t figure out whether it was shampoo, or what, from the site.) Bet only two of them have used it. B
40)Stewie Griffin for Coke. The Family Guy character, as a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day balloon, vies with Pluto {correction: Underdog) for a Coca-Cola, but Charlie Brown snaps it up at the last minute. Where’s Lucy when you need her? B
41) James Carville and Bill Frist for Coke. Whaaaaaaaat on Earth is this? One of the most off-putting commercials I’ve ever seen. What demographic is this one aimed at? Dead people? Pass me a Pepsi. Please. F
42) Toyota Sequoia. “The dishes will have to wait” is the theme of this one, as our SUV owner goes out for a spin. About as flashy as your average Toyota. B
43) E-Trade Baby 2. This kid’s diaper must be leaking by now. B
44) Taco Bell. Just what you want when it’s a nail-biter of a fourth quarter and the Giants are up 10 to 7 over the Patriots. C
45) Gatorade: Man’s Best Friend. A very big dog slurps up Gatorade from his water dish. And this is supposed to turn me on to their drink how? C
46) Will Ferrell for Bud. The egregiously unfunny comedian pitches the watery brew in surprisingly humorous fashion. Best is Ferrell’s close: “Bud Light. Suck One.” A
47) Hyundai Genesis. Straight car commercial; gets the message across. B
48) Victoria’s Secret. The game’s almost over, promises the tag line, as a beautiful babe tosses a football askance. Maybe Tom Brady’s after-party. I give it a wishful-thinking B-
49) Fat Guy for Amp. The Red Bull competitor gets the almost Full Monty, as a hip-hop-dancing tow truck driver chugs the energy drink to get “amp’ed” enough to jump-start a stalled car. This all makes sense in the world of $2.7-million Super Bowl ads. B+

Extra Runner
When you are batting, try to hit a triple and stay on third. When your next batter is up try and hit a sac fly to deep center. Tell your runner at third to tag up and go home. When you are very close to home plate press R to return to third. He will touch home and head back to third. He will start to go to third then and will head back to the dugout. When your next batter comes up to bat, the runner who scored will be back on third base.

MVP Points
After completing various goals, you will get a message stating that you have earned MVP Points. Enter the “MVP Rewards Checklist” screen in “My MVP” to check how many points you have earned, and how many are needed to unlock the various bonuses. You will earn twice as many MVP Points on the Pro difficulty setting, three times as many on the All-Star difficulty setting, and four times as many on the MVP difficulty setting. Also, MVP points are not awarded when games are simulated. The classic players that are unlocked will begin at age 30 and will age and retire like other players.
Get Any Player
To get any player on your team in dynasty mode, create an outfielder with the best stats. Sign him as cheap as you can for one year. You can trade him for any player (for example A-Rod, Mark Prior, etc.)
Barry Bonds
Go to “Edit Player” and select Jon Dowd of the San Francisco Giants. Change his number and name to Barry Bonds #25. His name will be annoucned when he comes to the plate for San Francisco, and all of his statistics are already in the game as “Jon Dowd”.
Cheap Perfect Player
Create a player with all desired information. Leave his attributes exactly as is. Then, go to “Free Agents”. Sign that player to a long cheap contract. Then, go to create/edit again and change the player’s attributes to make him perfect.
Infinite MVP Points
Reach a desired level of MVP points to spend on a player, stadium, or throwback jersey. Use them to unlock a bonus, then save your roster. Do not save your profile. Instead, reload your profile. Your MVP points will be at their pre-purchase amount. Use them to continue buying as many other bonuses as desired.Select dynasty mode and choose the Yankees. Turn off injuries, trades, rain outs, and budget. Set the difficulty on MVP. Simulate to the last game of each month. On that game, choose to simulate it (not quick sim; choose "Play" then "Sim"). Stop the simulation at the top of the ninth inning and choose to manage the remainder of the game. Do this for every month for the rest of the season. When the season ends, and you see "Advance To Playoffs", save the dynasty. Then, choose "Advance To Playoffs". Each time it will show your points earned.(about 13,000 to 17,000). Do not save after this. Exit dynasty mode, then keep re-entering and choosing "Advance To Playoffs". Each time you do this, you will get that same MVP point amount put into your profile.Note: This trick requires multiple memory cards. Once you reach the desired amount of MVP points (5,000 recommend), save your profile to multiple memory cards. You may now choose an unlockable for each profile. You will have as many MVP points on each one as you did at the start. You can use these points to unlock whatever you desire. Note: If you unlock a player, immediately go to "Team Management" then to "Free Agents". The player should be on the list. Assign him to whatever team you want (you do not have to sign him). Do this with each profile. When you are done, you can start a dynasty and all players will be on the teams you assigned them to.Start a dynasty with a team that can make the playoffs (for example, the Yankees). Simulate all the way to the last series, then save the dynasty. Then, simulate to the playoffs then advance to the playoffs. Save your profile (not dynasty). Exit the dynasty and you should have between 5,000 to 10,000 MVP points. Do the same thing as many times as desired to unlock everything.
Legendary Players
Make a profile. Then get 5000 reward points. Save your profile. Go to the rewards, pick a player, then save your rosters. You can do this to get anything in the rewards. This will not get legendary teams. It’s just fun to play with Babe ruth or Nolan Ryan.
Cheats
Great Cheat
Create a player named Nick Roy and make sure to save the player and your profile to unlock all MVP Rewards.
Ultimate Player
Go to create a player. His first name Jacob and his last name Paterson. Make him a “Free Agent” and in Dynasty Mode get rid of one of your players. Look for him in “Free Agents” and select him. He has a huge bat and almost every time he’s up he nails a homer!
Bad Player
Create a player and enter “Erik Kiss” as a name. Every time he swings he will break his bat and send a little dribbler to the pitcher for a sure out. Also, you cannot bunt with him; it will just go foul.
