so all this time ive been rocking the 2019 version of simpe but i just checked out the new version updated december 2024 and bruh??? These terrain editing tools????

the hours ive toiled away hex editing road tiles, fighting with sc4 and the modifyNeighborhoodTerrain cheat... this is going to be such a game changer...
i also noticed this, not sure what it does exactly but intriguing for stories games enjoyers 👀
this version does come bundled with some external tools plastered with chris hatch's signature titty pinup ladies but simpe itself is titty-free now as far as i can tell lmao
EDIT: apparently it's not quite as titty-free as i thought dfkdjgkgk, the source code is full of horny nonsense although most of it doesn't seem to apply without chris hatch's other stuff installed. but there is some unnecessarily sexualized language in the new sim profile feature and some other places, it's pretty easy to ignore but maybe someone can figure out how to edit those strings...

I'm not a fan of aspiration calculators. If that's how u like to play then fair enough, but imho it's so boring for every sim to have the same ""optimal"" combinations of aspiration/personality/hobbies/interests. Contradictions make characters interesting! For me, a shy popularity sim or a fortune sim with zero interest in work inspires more creative storytelling than the billionth aquarius family sim.
I prefer the ts2 personality sliders to the ts3/ts4 traits. There may be less variety, but each characteristic manifests very strongly through unique interactions, animations, and gameplay effects, and every possible combination feels unique. Traits on the other hand feel unbalanced and often superficial. Most are communicated entirely through flavor text without much effect on autonomy or unique interactions, and many of the most impactful ones are just versions of the ts2 personality options, but without the differentiation between moderate/extreme on the slider.
I think hair texture systems look kinda weird a lot of the time. I get the appeal of consistency, but stretching the same stock textures over every mesh looks flat and samey, especially when you can see the same lines repeating on different sections of the hair. Hand-painted textures are always more appealing to me, even when they're a bit crunchy/messy/lo-res, because they tend to have more interesting detail and bring out the shape of the mesh with more depth.
post your ACTUAL unpopular Sims opinion. (and no, saying FaceApp. and alpha cc is weird/ugly doesn’t count)
Mine: Sims 2 Premades are way overrated especially the Stragetown ones.

anyone else feeling a little bitter thinking about random ea employees pulling the ts2 source code out of deep storage and mucking around in there. without due reverence for the precious treasure they hold in their hands.... they don't know how to treat her right.... the things the community could do with those files >.<

Does anyone know why, when you click on a SimFileShare link, sometimes it takes you to a page like this...
And other times, it just directly starts the download without showing you that page? I've had both behaviors happen on the exact same URL, and I can't figure out what causes it to do one or the other. Sometimes I want to see that detail page to find out whether the file has been updated since its original upload, and I can't figure out how to get there!
Edit: I found a silly workaround - if you put the url into Google Translate, it always seems to show you the details page. So you can at least force it that way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here's an explanation of the process I've used to add infant genetics to pre-existing sims. Essentially the same process can also be used to make custom face templates that include infant faces.

I wanna shout out the best version of Veronaville out there imho - Biara25's Veronaville. Townies/NPCs are included, all the broken faces have been fixed, including ancestral sims using carrit's re-creations, and lots of little tweaks have been made to memories, family ties, and other character data to make everything more consistent. It's on par with with Dorsal Axe's Strangetown in terms of thoroughness - there's a whole 7-page document detailing everything. It's still in the testing subforum and not formally published on MTS which makes it easy to miss, but I've messed around with it for a while and haven't noticed any problems :)

pokin around in the new legacy collection Sims2EP9.exe file in a hex editor... there are 36 references to a path called C:\dev\sims2remaster (lol. lmao, even). These are all referencing .cpp files, and these same files are all referenced in the old .exes, just with truncated file paths. the text around them tends to look similar, sometimes it's just in a different order, sometimes it looks very different. and the legacy exe tends to have more text.
here's 2 examples that look pretty similar between the versions (original CD version first, legacy ea app version second. would love to know what cScissorTestState is 😂)

interestingly the ea app and steam versions are also quite different. the steam version has a bunch of extra text that isn't in the ea app version
