---
Esme: Got something to say pinhead?
Ace: P-Pinhead?! SHE CALLED RIDDLE A PINHEAD!!
Esme: Collaring someone just because they didn't come back before curfew, that's pathetic...
Riddle: E-Excuse me?!
Denzel: Uh oh
Trey: Denzel, get ready to grab Riddle
Esme: And you smell like dead fish, is that your cape
Riddle: *Screeches in anger, Denzel picking him up and carrying him away*
Esme: Oh that was his breath...
Deuce: She's gonna get us collared!!!
---
Esme: If you never asked Rollo to tag along and I never asked him to tag along, then that's official he shouldn't have tagged along
Rollo: Quiet miss priss
Livia: Lets not fight!
Esme: He started it...
Rollo: WHAT?!
---
Esme: *Looks at Riddle* Hi shorty
Riddle: WHO ARE YOU CALLING SHORT?!???
Denzel: *Carries Riddle away*
Esme: Cya Shorty...
---
Esme: You know, I've never met someone who was more annoying than Rollo but then I met you
Fellow: *Stares in surprise*
Esme: *Grabs Fellow's tie, snatching him close angrily* Take advantage of my friends kindness again and I shall WHACK you with a metal baseball bat
Fellow: U-Understood!
---
Esme: *Stares down at Gidel, then picks him up* Mine...
Livia: *Laughs*
Fellow: Ahaha...please give him back
---
Esme: *Kicking the Claude Frolli statue at NBC, smearing tomatoes and plums on it* Disgusting, perverted, abusive, ugly, tyrant!!!! I COULD GO ON!!
Rollo: WHAT ARE YOU DOING??!
Livia: *Stared in alarm* Oh my great seven...

“The city of flowers… this place sure does live up to its name.”
Home transition: I know this is also supposed to be an educational trip, but this place is so lively you really can never go wrong with a festival!
Tap home: honestly, with so much festivities in the air it also makes you want to dance along wouldn’t you say?
Here’s Jewel up and ready for the twst glorious masquerade event!!! (She’s in her rapunzel era while she’s exploring the city)
Also featuring Azul taking pictures of Jewel at any given moment, they’re the perfect thing to bribe Floyd with.
Btw I did not make the entire background just the added flowers!

Since El is afraid of heights how would she react when everyone falls through the floor during the Glorious Masquerade event and how would Malleus react?
I mean, she’s gonna be screaming like the rest of them.🤣
Her fear of heights won’t really have much of a play there because EVERYONE is falling and Trein uses his wind magic to protect everyone. Malleus probably grabs onto Eleanora, though, pulling her to him. But nothing special happens.
If her fear of heights ever comes into play, it would be in the bell tower when she’s trying to ring the bell to overload the flowers with magic while the boys fight Rollo, and Rollo sends her flying with magic to get her to stop, and she ends up hanging onto a gargoyle for dear life while Azul goes to pull her up so she doesn’t fall to her death. Man may not have stamina but he does have that octopus strength.
El gonna be SHAKEN and Malleus is gonna be PISSED.

Twisted Wonderland Analysis: Rollo Flamme and Quasimodo Parallels
These thoughts hit me like a truck in the middle of the night yesterday and I've already talked about parallels with other TWST characters and Disney movie protagonists, so I'm going to spill them out in the cut below:
First, we need address a key difference between Rollo and Frollo: Rollo isn't actually a hypocrite like some people think. If there's one point that came up for the characters both in the game and in HoND, it's the idea of purity and how it can be distorted. Frollo saw himself as a pure being, a true follower of God that "saw corruption everywhere except within." He extended this warped view toward Quasimodo, constantly talking him down as a "deformed, ugly monster" that needed to be put in a place of subservience and repentance simply for existing--something that Quasimodo himself believed until he was able to interact with other people in order to mentally escape this abuse. Rollo's fits somewhere in-between: His sense of warped purity, in regards to magic, is his own doing. However, again, he isn't a hypocrite about it. A hypocrite is someone who commits acts against their supposed morality. In Frollo's case, he murders, ridicules, and lusts after others, going against the Word of God despite his so-called faith and always shifting the blame for his own sins onto other people. Rollo didn't commit any actual sin to begin with, and he didn't even have magic when his brother died--nor does he want it. He hates magic with a passion and sees powerful mages like Malleus as symbols for this hatred, yes, but those feelings also extend to himself even if he refuses to admit it. Frollo didn't hate himself: He thought he was always above others even when confronted by his own sin. As such, Rollo's backstory doesn't match Frollo's descent, but Quasi's beginning as a supposed "sinner by blood": Both are "monsters" in their own eyes.
To quote Idia during the battle on the belltower, "He doesn't even care that he's surrounded by fire lotuses. He just keeps blasting magic... (to Rollo) Aren't you just projecting? I think there's only one guy here you actually hate--yourself." Azul also backs this by saying, "It must have torn you up when your magic first manifested. You gained the very power that took your brother away, making you no different..." This is why Idia was able to connect with Rollo so strongly--not just as two people who lost loved ones, but people who also blame themselves for their deaths. Through their parallel, as well as the fact that Rollo was waiting in the belltower when the flowers took over the city--at the heart of all the destruction, right in what's metaphorically a burning fire waiting to consume everything... It's a clear sign of self-abuse/self-destruction. Rollo doesn't want magic to exist at all, including his own. While Rollo did use magic, he did so to ensure his plans succeeded likely with the intention of being the last man to fall. Quoting Rollo himself now as he was musing from the tower, "We will all be freed from that cold, dark despair (caused by magic)."
We don't really get enough interactions between Rollo and Yuu for a strong dissection on this, but I think this is also why he stresses Yuu's "purity" so much enough to talk to us about it directly. It's not like there's a shortage of non-magic users in TWST's world, but we're special to him because we come from a place completely devoid of magic: For him, it's like meeting an angelic messenger sent from Heaven. (Hint: Him telling us to "rest our tired wings."). As a result, Rollo comes to us for affirmation of his beliefs and when we don't give him that, he recoils. This follows Quasi's idealization of Esmeralda as an "angelic being." He saw her as a kind of salvation, a ray of "heaven's light," in a similar way to how Rollo sees Yuu. In the same pattern though, Esmeralda didn't give Quasi exactly what he wanted either, which partially led to him backsliding. In their case, Quasi expected romantic love as a kind of salvation when Esmeralda, not feeling the same, could only give him her friendship. This rejection made Quasi retreat back into his own head, stating "no face as hideous as his face was ever meant for heaven's light" once again. Even Rollo's rivalry with Malleus acts as an extension of this parallel, since Quasi had his own rivalry with Phoebus: Just like how Esmeralda ultimately chose Phoebus, Yuu is closest to, and of course sides with, Malleus.
On a smaller note, even Rollo's position during the battle is more fitting to Quasi than Frollo. In HoND, Quasi protected the belltower while Frollo stormed into it at the end of the film. In TWST, Rollo was protecting the belltower while the NRC students stormed in. It's just that the protagonist and antagonist positions have been flipped.
Speaking of the belltower, Rollo shares Quasi's connection to both it and Fleur City. The gargoyles adore him, explaining that "no matter the weather, he climbs this tall tower and polishes the Bell of Solice to a shine," and that "when [they] got wet and started growing moss, he scrubbed it off for [them.]" Rollo and Quasi were both caretakers for their belltowers and regarded them as sanctuaries. Rollo doesn't show any surprise either in that the gargoyles talk, which, yes, since he's a local he'd have a higher chance of knowing about their sentience more than our NRC boys; however, the way he talks to them in-turn is very natural--just like how Quasi talked to the gargoyles. Rollo didn't even seem to know that they were/consider that they would be in-danger, quote, "I cannot fathom why [Malleus] came to check on you." He might call them "rocks" too, but from his actions, it's clear that he does in-fact care. As for the city, while Quasi didn't initially get the chance to see it all himself personally, he did everything he could to understand it and the people who lived there in painstaking detail, even creating models of the individual villagers. Rollo shows that same love for his hometown, jumping from group to group and dropping tons of information as a guide to everything in it. He didn't have to do that for his plan to work: He easily could've distanced himself as the "busy president overseeing everything." It's just that, because he adores Fleur City, of course he's going to brag about it.
To recap, Rollo isn't a Frollo copy in the same way the others weren't copies of their respective villains. If anything, he's a version of Quasimodo had Quasi fully absorbed Frollo's brainwashing and abuse--someone who would've come to hate themselves and the world so much that they just wanted to see it end. Hopefully though, he'll take that invite by the gargoyles to talk through his issues and start truly seeing "heaven's light" now that he's finally gotten out of his own head a bit.

TWST – Villains are the heroes who have failed and fallen (Glorious Masquerade Event)
We have analyzed the characters based on the Great Sevens, now we have Rollo Flamme.
We know that Quasimodo’s journey was to unlearn everything Frollo had abusively taught him lest he  became like him and perpetuated the cycle of hatred and prejudice. So it’s the same with Rollo.
Let’s start with his hatred of magic users. He considers them a disturbance to the “safety of the people” like how Frollo does with Romani. When he talks to the NRC students, especially Sebek, or sees something magically bad, he covers the lower half of his face with a handkerchief which shares the same color and patterns as Esmeralda’s scarf, the symbol of Frollo’s lust for said woman.
Tumblr media
By treating magic users like a stench to his person, he falls even deeper into depravity (like overdosing on medicines). Also, since Rollo is a magic user as well, his hatred is directed inward as well. His younger brother died because he hadn’t been careful with his magic. The magic that the latter loved so much was the cause of his demise. How could Rollo see anything good about it, about that part of himself, after that horrible incident?
In the 2014 musical adaptation of the movie, Frollo’s brother was a man who sought pleasure in immoral activities (e.g.: drinking, gambling). The final nail in the coffin was his romantic relationship with a Romani woman with whom he ran off after people, noticeably his brother, found out about it. He met his end on his deathbed after Frollo promised to care for his son, Quasimodo, as if he was his own.
If the Romani woman Quasimodo was under the care of at the beginning of the movie was his biological mother, then that would mean Romani blood flowed in his veins (like in the musical adaptation). Frollo lied about the circumstances behind his orphanhood to make himself look better in the eyes of the latter, to justify the discrimination against Romani people. Quasimodo would have grown to despise them (and the Romani part of his identity) too if it hadn’t been for Esmeralda telling him that she and her people weren’t as bad as Frollo believed them to be.
However, he hadn’t been free of Frollo’s influence yet. On TvTropes, Frollo’s and Quasimodo’s respective opinions of Esmeralda are presented as an example of the Madonna-whore complex (Film — Animated folder). I’m sure you know which sees her as which. Rollo displayed the same mindset (though the factor is instead one’s magical abilities) through the way he interacted with Malleus and Yuu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Malleus, as (one of) the most powerful magical being(s) in Twisted Wonderland, was the embodiment of everything Rollo feared and hated about magic. In the latter’s eyes, the former didn’t exercise restraint when using his magic and thus, showed no care for the safety of the others around him (after what we saw in Chapter 7, he’s not completely wrong), making him the worst kind of magic user, the kind of evil that should be eradicated for the “well-being” of others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, due to their magicless status, Yuu was perceived by Rollo as someone pure. For that reason, he expressed genuine sympathy and compassion for their supposed plight of being the only one of their kind among their magic-using peers (again, he’s not too far off, in my opinion). But the moment they convey an opinion opposite to his…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
…he believes another innocent soul has fallen under the allure of magic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, we are told that he took good care of the gargoyles well, treating them like how Quasimodo did with his. Yet he didn’t give any of them a thought when he put his plan in motion (unless he didn’t know they can be brought to life thanks to magic).
That’s what would have happened if Quasimodo had kept listening to Frollo instead of his gargoyle friends and Esmeralda: doing the “right thing” or getting what he wanted at the cost of many (like Frollo).
In the movie, Frollo abused his authority to tyrannize the inhabitants of Paris, notably the Romani community, so that everything conform to what he deemed right. In the musical adaptation, he wanted to eradicate the Romani people because they embodied the vices which had pushed his brother into a life of depravity (the latter had genuinely loved his Romani lover and had wanted to be free from the repressed lifestyle of the church). Whether he had acted out of (self-)righteousness or grief, no one was happy with his attempts to clip everyone’s wings (his included), not even him, though he would never admit it.
While Frollo was right that the world is cruel, Esmeralda and the gargoyles showed Quasimodo that it remains so only if you keep believing there is nothing good out there (pun intended). In short, he shouldn’t isolate himself from the world just because of one or a few bad experiences (like Frollo).
Rollo must do the same. Magic can be dangerous if one is not careful with it, but he must not let that cautiousness become his (and the world’s) cage or he will never get to fly.

Glorious Masquerade and Beans Day Event outfit designs requested by @thelazyhermits
Glorious Masquerade
Let me tell you how challenging it was getting Twisted Wonderland's style, the film's Esmeralda's style, and Grim's style to work together. But it was fun!
Julie d'Aubigny was a huge inspiration for the design! Coincidentally Puppet History made an episode about her while I drawing lol
I took Grim's hat, accessories, and colours while taking Esmerald'a jewelry and outfit silhouette coupled with TWST's capes and textures
The mask colours were based on Grim's outfit with the beads cascading from below the mask mirroring his fire
Golden thigh ring instead of Esmeralda's golden hoop earrings
I like to imagine the Noble Bell College seamstress/designing students going ham during the designing process lol
SWORD!!! I modelled the blade after a rapier and the grip after a shortsword. I do imagine the actual blade to be a shortsword on the longer end of the spectrum since they are great defensive weapons
The absolute queen didn't come for violence until part 2 rolled around. I don't know who was the dumbass that decided to give a complete stranger a real sword but no one can say NBC students are cheapskates
Beans Day
Legally school-sanctioned violence. Time to hunt some idiots :D
Most of the design was based on Jade's and Vil's Beans Day outfit
Cater absolutely slaying with Yuu's look
Girl's gotta look good when she's committing war crimes
But also she has padded body armour because you will not catch Yuu without proper support
Originally, Yuu's hair was tied into a small ponytail at the back but running around and tumbling in the woods loosened her hair. By the end of the game, she lost half of Cater's her hair clips :(
She also had a visor but it was lost during the battle
For the pose, I had a small scenario in my head where Yuu, after letting out her pent up frustrations, had to get smart with some of the stronger contenders in the game. She lacked magic and physical prowess. So sneaky time! During the last leg of the game, she was cornered, panting as her pursuer was only a few paces away from her. Before he could catch her, she smirked as a trap sprung from above him

I'm wondering, do you think you'll add TWST Phoebus or the TWST Coachman to your version of the events? It's fine if you want to play it by ear or even simply don't want to. I'm just curious, because I'm still shocked that at least those two weren't added to the story. Phoebus was Frollo's right hand man, so you think he would be the same way, and then "betray him" when he doesn't want to go through with the flower bs. I can totally see the TWST Coachman being Fellow's employer in charge of the park and forcing him to do all of those terrible things, because he will turn Giddle into a puppet if he disobey.
I’m not sure. I’ll have to think about it. Although since Malleus was technically Esmeralda one could argue that Yuu, Azul, or Idia was Phoebus 🤣 with the other two being Quasi and Djali.
But as for Playful Land… I mean the coachman WAS the boss in the movie, so it’d make sense if he was the boss in Playful Land. I haven’t watched Pinnichio in years because of how creepy it was, lol, so my memory about it isn’t the best.
Hmmm. I’m not sure if the boss could threaten Fellow with that. Because we do see Fellow use his magic to stop Gidel from transforming when Gidel attacks one of the staff puppets to stop them from leaving and proceeds to remind him that he can’t use violence on the staff.
So if the Boss was threatening Gidel, then the Boss would have Gidel at a separate location where Fellow wouldn’t be able to interfere. That or Fellow wouldn’t have control of the wooden mask curse to stop Gidel from transforming. It would’ve been an event where the twst boys would have teamed up with Fellow to stop the curse by taking down the big bad Boss. 🤔🤔🤔 Oooh, which would have been an interesting twist.
Fellow begrudgingly working with Kalim, Ace, and Ortho to save everyone. Question is, where would the boss be hiding??? Inside Monstro??? Because it’s obvious that the ship isn’t a ship. Hmmmm.
…Eughhhh, I’m gonna have to rewatch Pinocchio for the first time since I was like ten, aren’t I?

YAYYYY OC QUESTIONS!! I'll just list em bc scrolling through the emojis is gonna tough djrjkjdmf
🎂 BIRTHDAY CAKE - when is their birthday? do they like celebrating it?
🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?
💗 GROWING HEART - if they have a crush, is it noticable? what changes when they're in love?
💓 BEATING HEART - what gets their heart racing?
Hehe time to turn my brain on for these
🎂 Birthday cake - when is their birthday? do the like celebrating it?
Jewels birthday is on November 12th! They do like to celebrate it although she’s not one to openly tell people it’s her birthday or when her birthday is unless they ask her. Back home her brother would often celebrate it but now in twst she spends it with her friends.
🌌 Milky Way - what was the inspiration behind your oc? What was the first thing you decided about them?
Initially I actually designed Jewel to be a twst version of Esmeralda but it turned into a mix between a yuusona and another character. Her purple head scarf was low key the first thing that I decided about them, that and I wanted her to have a thing for dancing.
💗 Growing Heart - if they have a crush, is it noticeable? What changes when they’re in love?
It’s not that noticeable when she has a crush on someone, at best she’ll either ignore them or get flustered when they get close to her. Of course this was different with Floyd because she refused to acknowledge she had a crush on Floyd at first and tried to ignore him (we all know that didn’t work out). When she’s in love she tends to be more open not only with her affection but with her emotions too, she becomes unconsciously clingy to whether it’s by reaching out to them at random times or being around them more often.
💓 Beating Heart - what gets their heart racing?
When people are openly flirty with her, and not just with words but also getting in her personal space and being touchy! She’ll definitely try to show that it isn’t affecting her but the best way to tell is if she starts to ramble!
