winter assassin outfit

#zeno's art #ocs #reassassination #octavia krankenstein #oh i got a LOT to say about this one #in the comic octavia starts wearing this outfit after a certain event i think n its very symbolic #it represents mainly how her personality has changed as well as her relationship with kranken and humanity as a whole #lets do it top to bottom. FIRSTLY the mask that replaces her goggles that she wore in the “summer” outfit #the mask represents several things. firstly that octavia's relationship with kranken improved #i think the mask itself is probably kranken's and octavia uses it. showing that they've become closer #and ALSO even using a mask to hide her identity while working is in line with kranken's ideas of clothing being practical rather than flashy #(see her first outfit was originally really frumpy and practical before she DIY'd it into the minidress type thing)#anyway. the hoodie is supposed to harken more to an executioner showing octavia is more used to her job #the hoodie has eyelets which are circles. the fact that there are way more circles in the design shows that she becomes less cold #and more assimilated into human society #the gloves however are a sign of her persistent rebellion as they're fingerless and impractical lol #the pants are based off of tripp nyc's design. which was popular with mallgoths in the 90s/00s #it shows octavia's own personality and interests and of course has two hidden sets of 6's through the eyelets #lastly her shoes resemble skulls. that one's just for fun #while her first outfit completely represented rebellion i like to think this one bridges the gap between rebellion and octavia settling down #and becoming more familiar with those around her #this is only the first pass so i'll prob incorporate more red into the outfit before it's finalised #octavia isn't the only one who changes either! i want like ~3 changes for almost everyone

'attempting to pursue this unachievable white ideal of the young academic; maybe leading to gory #representations of mimicry; replacement; taking on someone else's skin; altering the self'#this is primarily key in vincent and the skask; in the actual show iirc they used a jockey mask or smth? but i was thinking about the #delightful way skin is semi-transparent. and so a literal layer of skin alone would be unlikely to provide the whiteness pursued-#the under layer of the original tone would be there. so smth about the failure and unattainable.#additionally; at this point of the show the skin would have been likely yellowing or greying due to post-mortem development? so even more #Not white. from observations (as a kid;comparing skin tones?) white people have a pinker undertone (this might be. a generalisation but.)#here the lighting is yellowish to further push the difference + give the super harsh lighting that if you suspend disbelief has some hair #appear as blonde to further the ambrose-ness.#also the hair- messier on the non-ambrose side; a reference to the whole monologue about the haircuts they got #we bring to you also another episode of <i like drawing fabric folds> in the jacket symbolism! from bottom right to top left; it tracks #vincent throughout act two: the initial long jacket for standing out (nonchalance?) at ardess is removed; the yellow coat is put on- aided #here by ambrose's ghost which is represented by the hand! (it is very very slightly transparent- you can see the jacket pattern through it)#(if you look close) and then the satchel goes over it; this mimics the clothes in <oh ms reporter>#and then the Actual Ambrose jacket goes above along with the skask; following the outfit from the pyre scene at the end.#the spark/star thing is partially foreshadowing for the upcoming stabby eye trauma thing (@quincy) and partially just so i could highlight #the eye of the mask/ the place where vincent's eye probably is Behind the mask. because i liked the idea of merging faces; intersection.#back to the translucency of skin - you can kind of make out where the rest of his face is from the darker bit? aka it's not the same colour #as the skask. smth smth limited effectiveness...#tldr? face skin. jacket skin. altering appearance over time; unfeasibleness #when i was doing this i suddenly remembered covering my skin in talcum powder as a kid... hm. i'd forgotten about that.#anyways! when i posted my first ever adamandi thing i had the thought of 'this musical makes me want to paint' and surreally enough #that has proved to be so so true. and ngl i am really enjoying it? love it when the motivation to create is there haha #i will add as a disclaimer that i'm literally chinese and if the colours look off.. i did not mean to make a caricature. please be nice #that said because stage lighting tends to shift colours about a Lot i essentially used my own skin as a reference under yellow light?#so hopefully that checks out. <disappears>

Masked AU Red Son

About the AU

The masked AU is a Lego monkie kid AU of mine where, rather than gods and fun mystical happenings, you have a corrupt government and secret identities! Two versions of this AU exist from me, the one I am writing on Ao3 (on a small pause while I fix chapter 1 and plan it out a little more), and one in my lego monkie kid fan server!

This AU contains lab experimentation, trauma, secret identities, the works! I'll probably be posting about it more in detail later. If you'd like to join the rp for it, a link to the server is in my pinned post^^ (or if you would like to just hang out and not rp, you can still join)

About the art:

I don't often experiment with rendering, and Red Son's hair and clothes here were a... challenge, to say the least. So I left it in a sort of half-rendered style that I think works well. When creating it, I didn't intend for it to be rendered, so not all of it was shaped to have texture. That's why it's a bit of a mix. I'm not super proud, but I'm learning to appreciate things that take me hours, and to focus more on what I did right instead. Here's the OG version:

I haven't had the time or mental health lately to do much with Hallowrove, but rest assured they are currently narrowing down how many extravagantly coloured feathers you can glue to one outfit to make the nearest courtier pass out and fall in the river. Don't even ASK about the neckline.

#he's wearing the devil mask in case you couldn't tell #I will probably never draw this outfit but the look is riding the line between horror and fascination #heavily monster inspired，using frills of feathers to emulate gills and fins #multiple extra eyes added onto the mask #claws glued in frills to the cheeks #and the aforementioned. Neck and hemline fit to make anyone who looks past all the rest of that blush #this was 100% thrown together in the two days before Hallowmas but it was done so Very Enthusiastically #sometimes i remember that Hallowrove worked as a seamstress for 2-3 years on the Surface and this is one of those times #i love thinking about this outfit #clothing with the goal of making people look and then making them feel conflicted and uncomfortable in at least three separate ways #scandalmaxxing :}

i hate trying to look up clothing/fashion inspiration for my OCs, especially for my OCs who are masculine and/or fat, because everything i find is either hyperfem, overly formal, just fucking ugly, or only designed for skinny people

I love being one of the only people still wearing a mask at school. At home. I caught it in February of this year. "That just proves masks don't work that well," my mother says. Perhaps, but perhaps it's the dozens upon dozens of people around me who don't wear masks in a building with no ventilation because of the cold? One can only wonder.
