It’s lowkey funny that “Twisters” has a scene where Kate is driving to her mom’s house and a song about Oklahoma pride is playing in the background. Daisy Edgar-Jones is a British actress, so it makes sense for the character but it’s a teensy bit awkward when you remember who’s playing the character.

Finally saw Twisters (2024) today. It was great, I love disaster movies, etc etc but WHY AREN’T WE TALKING ABOUT HOW GOOD THE SCORE IS.

Like…I’m a fan of Glen Powell. Top Gun:Maverick is my favorite movie he’s in. But after seeing Twisters (which alone was great; got to meet one of the pros who helped assists with the accuracy), someone give me a cowboy hat. I just watched Twisters and oh my god? For once the internet wasn’t lying to me and the romance in it was EXACTLY as good as I was promised. Forget action, this movie was MADE for romance lovers. Glen Powell in this movie is the definition of the female gaze. The camera loves him, and boy does it do a great job of capturing him openly pining after Kate.

Also this film unexpectedly fed my inner Pride and Prejudice (2005) fan. The shots of Kate standing in the fields looking at the sky while the camera slowly pans around her and the strings swell with wonder??? You could cut that shot into p&p and it would look perfectly at home.

Amazing movie, my only notes would be make a sequel so I can get a goddamn kiss already.

Twisters is really really really good

Maybe more detailed comments later but right now two things

1. This movie is fucking BEAUTIFUL. I'm kind of a sucker for a movie with some aesthetic value, so that probably skews my views on the movie as a whole some. I mean, Baby Driver is my favorite movie if that tells you anything.

2. Where's that post that's been trending about eroticism vs sexualization? This movie had real eroticism in spades. The main characters are romantically interested in each other and they do not make a damn WHISPER of their romantic intentions overt. They don't kiss. They don't even admit to being interested in each other. Their romance is communicated in stares and long pauses and it had me HOOKED.
