♪ notes: originally wrote this on his birthday then polished it up! first kiss together, reader uses lip balm !! use of baby as a term of endearment... ace is at the end being bitter but it's all good don't worry... this is all fluff i think (not proofread)

deuce spade looks at you with the gentlest eyes, brows scrunched up in need and. his breathing almost sound like pleas, purposefully slowed to calm himself down. you place a hand on his chest, feeling its steady rise and fall. he carries the nervousness of a naïve boy, new to living. he holds you like he's new to breathing, still getting accustomed to the pattern. new to life as he is to love. "baby," his breathing hitches and it's almost careful, like too sharp of a breath would break him. he wouldn't want you to slice your soft, pretty hands on the jagged shards of his anxiety. his want for you bleeds into his voice, the mellow tone shaky, but sure.

his lips are glossy and smooth, and gazing upon them, you're satisfied with how he follows through with using the lipbalm you gave him. he uses it because it's the same kind you use; so it tastes like your lips, sweet like strawberries. even if you haven't had your first kiss together yet, he can imagine it. albeit incompletely. they're pressed into a cute little pout, and you place the pad of your thumb on his bottom lip. you gently glide your finger across it, wiping some of the lipbalm off. he gets shy under your watchful eyes, a lot more bashful when he feels your touch on his skin. you can't help but laugh a little. "you use it a lot, don't you?" you tease, watching his cheeks redden. he would never tell you, but it was both from embarrassment and from loving your touch.

you lean in, but pause midway. "may i?" when your question reaches his ears, he feels his head get heavy. a dull ache resounding through his brain when you ask for what he's been wanting for weeks. and really, he thinks he should have "manned up" and asked you directly, but he wanted to make sure you were comfortable. he nods eagerly, a little too excitedly, "please." and you close the gap. his eyes are closed, and for a second, he thinks about how his imagination could never compare to how he felt in the present. your lips on his feels like walking through a leafy glade, a burst of colors in his chest, winning a game... just surreal. he slips his fingers through your hair, impossibly pleasant and soft. and he takes it all in, drinks in all your love and revels in the aftertaste.

you're the first to pull away and his lip balm is smudged, both on his lips and yours. he looks up at you for a second, unblinking and cheeks still red. immediately he covers his face, flustered. you're concerned, of course! just as you're about to ask him if he's okay, he manages to squeak out a request.

"one more, please?" he starts, before rattling off a few reasons. "i don't think i got the lip balm on your lips properly. and, i wanna see how long i can go without breathing-" he nervously rambles, and you can feel the excitement radiating off him.

you smile, and pull him back in before you can bask in the afterglow.

no but really, I think it fits him really well! I had thought his UM would probably involve something kinda sleight-of-handy or pickpockety! and I looooved that it made such a nice loop-around back to episode 1. ❤️ I was. kind of half-expecting him to just run out and punch Riddle in the nose again. but instead this time 'twas he who offed the queen's head! it was great! and he did it while stone-cold terrified out of his mind! because Ace is the only remotely normal or well-adjusted person at NRC and therefore the only one who is like "we're going to literally die, this is super effed up". but he did it anyway!!!! I AM SO PROUD
