Can you write a little blurb where Mat and Y/N are just dating, with no kid, and spend the afternoon making out ?
Warnings: smuttish and alcohol consumption
“Maty,” you breathe out, hands glued to your boyfriend’s back as your chest heaves into his.
You’re laid out on his couch with him hovering over you. His body is nestled safely between your thighs as he kisses away your struggles of the day.
“What, pretty girl?” His voice is dipped in honey, eyes darkened and alluring.
Your words die on your tongue, every thought being consumed by Mat. It’s crazy how drawn you are to him, but you welcome it with open arms.
“I love you,” you whisper, your hand cupping the back of his neck to bring him back into a kiss.
It’s not rough but it’s not soft. There’s a mix of teeth clashing and lip biting, drawing deep and guttural moans from each other as if it’s a game to see who moans the most. His touch is soft, though. His hand caresses your cheek, cards through your hair, or explores the curves of your body.
“I love you.” It’s whispered into your skin as his lips trail down your mouth and to your neck. A line of fire is left behind, your skin turning red and sensitive.
He sucks your skin into his mouth, leaving little love bites behind. Your hands grip onto his hair, tugging and twirling the strands. You wrap your legs around his waist and pull him closer- even though his body is flush against yours already. You lift his head away from your chest, your eyes hyper focused on his wet and swollen lips. You flip him over and straddle his torso, hands pressing into his pecs.
You give him a lopsided grin which he returns with his boyish smirk. You reach out for your forgotten glass of wine that’s sitting on the coffee table, eyes on his as you take a sip. Excess wine drips down your chin and onto your chest, catching Mat’s gaze. You know what he’s thinking before he can make a move or say a word. You peel off your top and let your bare breasts fall with a teasing bounce.
“Fuck, I need you,” he pulls you down and stuffs his face between your boobs. His mouth engulfs your flesh, leaving you a whimpering mess.
“Kiss me,” he barks and scoots you down his body. You love the way his hands press firmly into you.
You press a hand into his throat and ghost your lips against his.
“We’ve been kissing all day,” you point out.
“And we’re going to make out for the rest of the night. Just so you know,” he pinches your nipple, making your back arch.
“Just make out? You’re not even going to fuck me on your couch?” You say with a sultry lilt.
“I’ll fuck you on every surface until you’re screaming and trembling underneath me,” he leans up and speaks into your ear.
You can already feel your legs tremble with how hard you keep trying to clench your legs closed. You’re needy for friction.
Throwing whatever crumb of control you had out the window, you push him into the couch and shove your tongue down his throat. Your lips dominate his as your hips roll over his clothed cock.
He flips you back over, body shadowing yours and ripping off whatever clothing you had left. It’s his turn for his mouth to devour yours, his wild tongue exploring you. A fierce flame roars in your lower belly and you can’t wait for it to be put out with your sexy ass boyfriend’s cock.
a/n: I hope you enjoy it nonnie! As well as the rest of you lovelies<3

Two Hearts In The City of Love
Chapter 4: For Your Amusement
Tags: Love, Love Confession, Romance
"Can Mario please have some of your bacon?"
"I told you yesterday Mario, just go up for seconds!"
Everyone was enjoying breakfast at the hotel buffet again. Luigi was certainly being awful generous for them on this trip. "Soooo what are we doing today?" Meggy asked while stirring a spoon around in her drink. Luigi piped up "Well I don't have work today so I was thinking that we could go down to the Disneyland Paris." Mario's eyes widened as he started chanting "OH BOY! OH BOY! MARIO WANTS TO GO!"
Tari twirled her hair with a finger and said "Isn't it kind of expensive to go there?" Luigi typed something on his phone and pulled up their tickets. "It only costs $54 for a day."
"Yeah. For like one person..." Three grumbled. "Oh come on Three. I think it could be fun!" Four tried to convince him to go with Mario's help. "Yeah! What's better than Disneyland?"
"Literally anything else?" Three replied as he went back down to his plate, only to find crumbs. "What the!?" His eyes narrowed and glued directly onto the fat Italian. "Mario..." It was incredibly obvious that it was him as syrup dripped down his cheeks and his mustache was filled with pieces of food. "What? Mario didn't do that!" He burped and continue stuffing food in his mouth until he asked Smg4 "You gonna eat that?" Four slid his plate closer to him and irritatedly said "Yes!"
Meggy sighed and pulled him out of the booth. "Come on Mario. Let's go get you cleaned up." She dragged him back to the elevator and Tari said "Maybe we should all get ready." They all stood up and headed towards the elevator as well. Three groaned and hesitantly followed. "It's not like I had anything better to do anyways."
~A few hours later~
The crew arrived at the entrance, multiple ticket booths with a line of people at each one. "OH HELL NO! I'M NOT STANDING IN THESE LONG LINES!" Bob took out a rocket launcher from his pocket (how did that fit in there) before Meggy started yelling out "Bob calm down! It's like a 5 minute wait!" He rolled his eyes and responded "NOT MY PROBLEM!" After one blast, all the people got shot thousands of miles into the air.
"PROBLEM SOLVED." Meggy looked like she was about to strangle Bob, but she took in a breath to calm herself. "Don't do that again Bob. Let's just go show the tickets." Luigi held up his phone with the tickets to the man at the booth and he let them in. It didn't take long for Mario to go completely crazy as gasped in excitement. "We're finally here! Aren't you excited?"
"Sure." Three rolled his eyes as Mario started rushing off, yelling "LET'S GO ON EVERYTHING!!!" Just as it seemed he was going to take off, Meggy stopped him by his sleeve. "Hold on Mario. I think since we split up yesterday we should stick together today. So nobody gets lost."
"Finnneeee can we just go alreadyyy!!!" Mario kept trying to squirm out of her grasp, but Meggy clung on. "Yes, but you have to stay within sight."
"Works for Mario! Lets-a go!"
The first ride they went onto was a big rollercoaster that made Luigi quiver in fear. "T-That l-l-looks pretty h-h-high..." Mario didn't care and pushed him towards the line. "Don't be a scaredy cat Luigi! Face your fears!" Luigi took some deep breaths to calm himself and proclaimed "You're right Mario! I can do this!" He seemed pretty confident until they got to the car and he immediately fell onto the floor, crying like a baby.
"Come on Luigi! Move your butt!" Mario started shoving and pulling him towards the train car, but he refused to move. "Can you believe that Mario is related to such a lazy, fat brother?" They all looked at each other with unfazed expressions and all said at the same time "Yes."
It took a while, but Luigi finally got in the car. He was still shaking and sweating like crazy. "Why did you have to choose the front car Mario?" Mario looked back at him with derpy eyes and said "Because Its-a lots of fun!" The ride started and the car slowly went uphill towards a very big drop. "I don't like this Mario..."
"What could possibly happen on a tall, bumpy ride like this?" Where to even start. Luigi looked over the side of car and all around the track as he started listing multiple things that could go wrong. "What if the car flies off the tracks and we crash?"
"What if the ride breaks down and we get stuck up here!?"
"What if my seatbelt unbuckles and I fly out of the seat!?"
"What if a low platform slices my head off when we go under it!!!"
"WHAT IF-"
"SHUT UP! I'M TRYING TO ENJOY THE RIDE!" Bob yelled from the back seat.
Luigi then noticed that they were getting closer to the top. "Mario...tell them to stop the ride." The car rounded the peak of the track. "Someone...tell them to stop the ride." The car started going downhill and Luigi yells "STOP THE RIDE! SOMEBODY STOP THE RIDE!" It was too late as the car was already accelerating down the drop and doing a bunch of turns. Luigi began screaming out of his mind like a girl and flailing his arms around. Mario, on the other hand, was enjoying it by going "Wheeee!" the whole time.
The ride conductor was relaxing at the station, reading a newspaper when he heard a barely audible scream. "Did I hear someone?" He paused for a few seconds and shrugged. "Meh. It was probably nothing."
"AHHHHHHHHH!!! MARIO GET ME OFF! I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS ANYMORE!"
"Put your arms up Luigi! It's more fun!"
Finally, the ride stopped and everyone got out, talking about how fun it was. "What did you think Luigi?" Mario turned around to find his brother, frozen in terror on the car. "Oooo Luigi really enjoyed it! You must want to go on again!" That little comment made Luigi's pupils shrink. He immediately leapt from the car and ran, screaming towards the exit.
After a few more rides, the crew decided to try some games because Luigi couldn't take anymore scary drops and they couldn't take more of his screaming. Mario wanted to try ring toss, but while walking through all the games, Tari spotted a giant duck plushie prize and squealed in excitement. Meggy saw the blue haired girl's eagerness for it and walked over to her. "Don't worry Tari. I'll win that prize for you. How do you win it?"
The guy running that game pointed to a bell and held up a mallet. "All you have to do is whack this hard enough to ring the bell." Meggy chuckled in superiority and said "Is that all? I'll have that duck in no time." Tari watched in awe as Meggy took the mallet, lined up her shot, and hit the rubber target as hard as she could, ringing the bell. "Congratulations!" the man said as he handed Tari the duck plushie. Meggy spun the mallet in her hands and said "Still got it."
"BRUH I COULD DO BETTER THAN THAT."
Meggy snapped her head around in anger. "What...did.. you...say...?" Bob came up to her and said "I ONCE BROKE THE BELL OFF WITH MY STRENGTH!" Meggy pointed to the high striker and smirked. "Oh yeah? Prove it!" Bob snatched the mallet out of her hands and raised it above the target.
"WATCH ME!"
He hit it with all of his might and the bell rang just like Meggy's turn. "Well done sir!" The man handed Tari another plushie. Meggy's jealously and competitive spirit got the best of her as she went up and took back the mallet. "That was just a warm up! Watch this!" The game started evolving into madness as the two kept tussling for the mallet and ringing the bell several times to prove the other was better. Four turned to the rest of them and said "How about we go see what Mario is doing?" They quickly agreed and snuck away to leave Meggy and Bob to their banter.
Mario was tossing millions of rings all over the place, but none of them landed around a bottle. "You're supposed to throw the ring on top of the bottle idiot." Mario turned around to see all, but three of his friends approaching him. "That's what Mario is doing!" He soon realized that he ran out of rings and started kicking and crying on the ground. "WAHHHH WAHHHH!"
Three glared at him and said "If I do this will you stop having a tantrum?" He nodded as Three shoved a few bucks into the operator's face and took the rings. He lined up his shot with more precision and focus than Mario did. First ring was a miss. He took the second one and aimed for another bottle. Another miss. With the last ring, he thought of a technique and flicked his wrist.
The ring landed around a bottle and Mario sprung up. Three struck his signature pose and said "BOOM! Now that's how you do it." Boopkins clapped for him and Four complimenting him on his skills. "Nice shot Three!" The operator asked what kind of prize Three would like, but there was nothing he wanted to get. Mario ran up and pointed to giant donut plushie off in the corner.
When the operator handed it to him, Mario shouted out "Meggy! Look what Mario won!" and ran away to the high striker. "Oi! I won that!" The others followed behind and came back to quite the surprise. A large crowd of people formed around the high striker while Tari was drowning in millions of plushies and toys. Four went up to her and asked "What happened here Tari!?"
She pointed to where Meggy and Bob were still one-upping each other and explained "Things got a little out of hand with those two and now everyone wants to see who wins." Four knew that this had carried on long enough. He pushed through the crowd and told his friends "Okay you two. I think that's enough. Let's go do something else."Bob kept smashing the mallet against the target repeatedly and yelled "NO WAY JOSE!" Meggy faced him with a serious voice and said "Sorry Four, but I can't stop until I teach this jerk a lesson!"
"Alright we're done here!" Four butted in between them and grabbed the mallet out of Bob's hands. "HEY! I WAS ABOUT TO BEAT HER!" Meggy sneered at him and said "As if! I was about to beat you!" Four began acting like a real parent here as he said "Well too bad. Stop hogging the game and let somebody else have a turn."
Bob got a serious look in his eyes and pulled out his rocket launcher again. "BOB! WHAT DID I SAY EARLIER!" He looked at both Four and Meggy, aiming for the bell. "IF I CAN'T HAVE IT...THEN NOBODY CAN!" He blasted the bell and it shot off into the sky, breaking the game. Four and Meggy stared upwards with their mouths dangling open as Bob walked off. "GET RICKEDY RICKEDY WRECKED!" Tari then noticed that a certain fish was missing.
"Hey wait! Where's Boopkins?"
Bob thought he heard a familiar squealing as he saw Boopkins standing in line to take a picture with Ariel. "LOL! YOU LIKE GIRLY PRINCESSES!" Boopkins frowned and said "Hey! Lots of people like Ariel!"
"LITTLE GIRLS AND LOSERS DO!"
"Well I don't care what you say. I'm going to meet her." Bob rolled his eyes and started leaving, but then he got a funny idea. Finally, it was Boopkins turn and he started rambling on to the princess. "Hey Ariel. What's up I-"
"HE THINKS YOU HAVE NICE BOOBS!"
Everyone in line was looking at Bob, disgusted. Suddenly, two security guards came up and yelled "STAWP RIGHT THERE!" In the end, him and Boopkins got kicked out of the park so Boopkins had to call Meggy to tell her what had happened.
Meanwhile, the rest of them were still searching the park for the two when Meggy got a phone call. She answered and after a few minutes, she said "That was Boopkins. He and Bob got kicked out so they're waiting for us at the front."
"Why am I not surprised." Three retorted, knowing that it was most likely Bob's fault. The sky was growing dark, but Three kind of wanted to do something with Four. He noticed a lit up Ferris wheel in the distance and pointed it out to Four. "How about we take a ride before we leave."
"Why?" Three didn't want to admit that he liked spending time with Four so he shot back "Do you want to go on or not!?" He thought about it for a few seconds and said "A Ferris wheel would be nice..." They started heading the opposite direction when Meggy looked back and noticed. "Where are you two going?"
"To the Ferris wheel! We'll see you guys tomorrow." Four waved to them and started chatting with Three as the two made their way over. Mario noticed and wanted to get a close look so he managed to slip away from the group and sneak behind the boys. The two of them sat down in a passenger cart together and watched the stars as the wheel spun them around. "So any particular reason you wanted to come here?" Four asked. "Just to get some peace and quiet. Those idiots have been bothering me all day." Four laughed and said "You got a point there. Especially Mario."
By the time the red Italian had made it to the Ferris wheel, the ride had already started. He then noticed that the ride operator had conveniently left his post to go to the bathroom. "Hmmmm...." Mario tapped his chin in thought. "Maybe Mario can use the controls to bring down Smg4 and Smg3 so he can join them!" He snuck into the booth to find the large variety of buttons and levers. Mario scratched his head in stupidity. "This one?" He pushed a button and the ride started to speed up. "Oops. Maybe this one?"
Now the Ferris wheel was going even faster. Mario started panicking and pressed multiple, random buttons that made the Ferris wheel spin out of control. Just when things couldn't seem to get any worse, a big "CHA THUNK!" was heard. The ride had broken down and smoke surrounded the controls. Mario winced and looked up at the wheel. "Smg4 and Smg3 are going to be very mad at Mario!" He ran away like an idiot, back to the hotel, leaving this mess for the boys to figure out.
The calmness of night helped with all the craziness that happened today. It was nicer when it was just the two of them. No wacky shenanigans. No screaming Mario. Just them. Three broke the silence with a stutter. "Four...I...I.." He directed his attention to Three, but all of a sudden they felt a sudden jolt. "What the hell was that!?" The two looked over the side of the railing to see that the Ferris wheel was speeding up.
"This doesn't seem normal..." Four nervously said. Another jolt of speed made the two lose their balance and hit the floor of their passenger cart with a thud. Three rubbed his head and yelled "YOU THINK!?" Then a riveting sound stopped them in their tracks. In a panicked voice, Four asked "Please don't tell me that..." The two got up and leaned over once again to see smoke coming from the bottom.
Sure enough, the ride was broken and there was no help to be found. "Great. Now we're stuck up here!" Four sat down in disappointment while Three leaned against the railing. After a few minutes, impatience grew and Three pushed open the cart door, startling Four. "Three!? What are you doing!?"
"I'm not staying up here all night just for somebody to fix this thing! I'm leaving!" He carefully climbed down to the roof of the cart below their's as Four watched with concern. "Are you sure that's safe?" He looked back up and said "It's not that far down!" Four didn't feel entirely confident with that reassurance, but it was better than staying up in this cart all by himself. He slowly followed, being very careful with where he stepped.
A few minutes had passed and Three was now safely on the ground. Four was coming down as well. Everything seemed to be fine until Four accidentally put his foot on a crooked surface, causing his foot to slip and he quickly clung onto one of the bars. "THREE! HELP!" He quickly shifted his gaze up and freaked out to see Four hanging on by one hand. "CRAP! UH....DON'T MOVE!"
Four tried to hold on, but one by one his fingers started to slip off. "THREE! PLEASE DO SOMETHING!" Four tried to think of a solution himself, but it was all caving in so fast. First it was his pinky, then his ring finger, his thumb. Three tried searching around for something, but it was no use. "Three..." Only his index finger was left as it started to slip. With nothing left to do, he quickly shut his eyes and awaited his fate.
His finger gave out and he fell, but then something caught him. He opened his eyes to find a distraught Three clutching him. He slowly catches his breath and croaked out "Thanks Th-" but then, Three dropped him. As Four looked up, his shaky expression had changed to a seething anger. "THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!"
"MY FAULT!? YOU WERE THE ONE TO SUGGEST GOING ON THE FERRIS WHEEL IN THE FIRST PLACE!"
"WELL MAYBE IF YOU DIDN'T SUCK AT CLIMBING STUFF THEN WE WOULDN'T BE IN THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE!"
"I TOLD YOU THAT THIS WASN'T SAFE!"
"YOU KNOW WHAT? I'M DONE WITH THIS! I'M GOING BACK TO THE HOTEL!"
Three clenched his fists and stormed off in rage, leaving Four in the dark like that. He gritted his teeth and shouted back "FINE!" He slowly trudged behind, refusing to acknowledge Three for anymore of this night. It didn't help that they were still sharing a room together. When he walked in, Four reminded himself to just ignore Three which apparently, he was doing the same.
The last thing said was Three sternly saying "Don't talk to me." The two refused to look at either one and they slowly drifted to sleep with an uneasy anger that their arguments left them with.

‘’ Ven pa' cá. ‘’ Arturo looks up to you as you stand in front of him, raising his beer to his lips ‘’ Sit with me. ‘’
On his lap he means, you can never seem to be able to sit on a chair when he’s in the room. His embrace is inviting, legs spread on the leather booth, his shirt slightly unbuttoned. It’s for the style, mami, he always says, It’s not church day today, is it?
‘’There are other people in the room, Arturo. ‘’ you scold him.
The music is loud around you, flashes of blue and pink lights spreading around the floors and across your face. It is always a bit too public for your liking, when he pulls you down to him and tucks you to his chest, runs his hand on your thigh,
‘’ They won’t tell your mom we had sex before marriage if that’s what you’re scared of. ‘’
‘’ ¡Ay! That’s not it, grosero. ‘’ you cry out, eyes wide. After a minute, you cave in with a sigh, falling down next to him.
Saying no to him has proven time and time again to be difficult because you did want to sit on his lap most of the time. His arm moves around you, fingers wrapping around your hair, playing with the strands. His thigh is warm against yours. It tugs at your chest but you still do it, stretching your legs over his lap, sliding a bit closer to his side.
‘’ You know you don’t have to if you don’t want to. ‘’
You had never been the most outgoing person, preferring to stay in your routine, the things you knew and could stick to, never one for public affection. That is until you started going out with Arturo Paez of all people,
‘’ I know. ‘’ your fingers caress his jaw, ‘’ I don’t mind it tonight. ‘’
His eyes look at you over his glasses, questioning, laughing. He always knows. You roll your eyes, pushing his head away from yours with a laugh,
‘’ Alright, alright, I feel so fucking exposed right now. This skirt is way too short. ‘’
He kisses his teeth, smiling as he tugs the material down your thighs a bit,
‘’ I mean, it does look super hot and long enough in my opinion. I can give you my jacket if you want? ‘’
You shake your head, taking a beer from the table. When you first met him, you thought nothing good would come out of it. In a way, Arturo was everything you weren’t, and what you believed was going to be a summer fling, rapidly turned more serious as the weeks went on. For someone so careless, he did take great care in respecting your boundaries and making sure everyone around you did the same,
‘’ I’m good, guapo. I wanted to wear it, I’ll tough it out. ‘’
You take a sip from your beer, looking around. The second floor of Roxanne always seemed to be the place everyone would end up. You didn’t mind it, free drinks, good company, and the once-in-a-while heart attack while trying to keep Arturo out of fights. I won’t let them talk to you like that, he always shouts, throat raw and sunglasses on the floor. He tends to be quick with his fists, your man, and as much as you wish you could be there every time to stop the blood from spilling, you know it is simply impossible.
You feel your legs slip from his lap as he stands up. He makes sure to pull your skirt down one more time before straightening up,
‘’ You want something else to drink? This tastes like piss. ‘’
You snort, pushing the bottle into his hand for him to dispose of,
‘’ Please, I’ve never had a beer this disgusting ever. ‘’
‘’ I don’t even know why you always take one anyway,‘’ he retorts with a smile.
‘’ When in ‘dumb boys who only drink piss-tasting beer’ territory, do as the dumb boys do. ‘’
He laughs, taking your chin between his fingers, teasing.
‘’ I’m pretty sure this is not how the saying goes, mami. ‘’
Your hand presses against his stomach, pushing him away playfully. The smile on your face is wide and genuine. There’s something intimate about the moment as if the music slowed down and the lights stopped throbbing,
‘’ I’m pretty sure you don’t even know what the saying even is. ‘’
He mocks your words back to you, brown eyes rolling behind his shades,
‘’ You want that cocktail, sí o no? ‘’
You nod, keeping your mouth shut this time as you watch him disappear into the crowd. Months ago you would have stayed home on a Saturday night, you were content those days, alone and with few friends, doing your thing. You are still as content now as you were back then, when Arturo picks you up in the middle of the night, throwing rocks at your window, when he tells you to jump in the pool with him, telling you the owners are not coming home for weeks as he pulls on your bikini straps,
‘’ You’re Kitty’s girlfriend, right? ‘’
There are new legs in front of you, tight jeans and unlaced running shoes. Far from the colorful slacks and polo shirts you are used to seeing,
‘’ I guess you could say that,‘’ you answer back, looking up.
You have met him before, at another party, again all tight pants and unkempt shoes. You can’t remember his name, as much as you try, but you do remember Ramon telling you that he didn’t like him. Untrustworthy, he had said, a rat that would sell us out the second they come knocking. You didn’t realize what he was talking about at the time. They do let him hang out once in a while, something about ‘a big pool’ and ‘free shots’. His eyes are fixed on you, unmoving, glazed,
‘’ You guess? ‘’
Whatever fun you had is now long gone. You take a deep breath, he is way more in your personal space than you had realized. He is a man your age, you can tell, pupils blown, drugged out on god knows what, and with the confidence of a madman,
‘’ I would leave me alone if I were you. ‘’
He takes a step forward, knees bumping into yours. Your tongue rolls in your mouth, don’t bite, that’s what he wants, don’t do it. You can tell how sweaty he is from your seat, nose twitching,
‘’ Why? Cause he’s scary and all? ‘’
His fingers reach out, grabbing your cheek as if scolding a child, lips curling in anger. You shake his hand off,
‘’ Pendejo, I’ll tell you once, step back- ‘’
‘’ You think I’m scared of him?! ‘’
This feels personal at this point. You can tell. Whatever this is, whoever you are, it doesn’t matter. It’s all about Arturo, Kitty. You are not sure how it happens, how your fingers wrap around an empty beer bottle laying on the table, how the words coming out of your mouth sound so menacing, so not you,
‘’ Me tocas otra vez, and I’ll kill you. ‘’
He takes a step forwards and the bottle smashes the right side of his head, shards of glass flying around, biting into your skin. The movement is swift, precise, bullseyes. The music doesn’t stop, but the people around you do, standing still, waiting for what comes next. The boy hasn’t moved yet, head on the side, blood dripping down his face. That shut him up for sure. You didn’t miss how Ramon stood up from his chair in the corner of the room, darting toward you. What you did miss was how fast Arturo crossed the few meters separating you, smashing your cocktail at the boy’s feet. His hands wrap around the boy’s collar as he tosses him over the lounge table like a ragdoll,
‘’ Why the fuck you got your hands on my girl, hijo de la chingada- ‘’
Arturo raises him up by the shirt and slams him back down against the glass table, beer bottles rolling off the edge,
‘’ Why is it always you causing problems? ‘’ he shouts. His grip is firm, eyes wide, teeth clenched, ‘’ You didn't get the message last time, asshole? Had to try and get my girl involved too, hm? ‘’
You had seen your man fight before, how he spilled blood, how his blood got spilled. Never had you seen his knuckles so white, his shoulders so tense, his eyes so dark. You can already taste blood in your mouth before his fist hits the boy’s face, once, twice. His sunglasses are slipping down his nose more and more each time,
‘’ Arturo, please, ‘’ You take a step forward putting a hand in the middle of his back, your palm hurts at the pressure, bleeding. You don’t want this, you think, this is too much, ‘’ Bring me home, I just want to go home. ‘’
You can almost hear him breathing over the music, heavy and deep, using all the self-restraint he can muster. A minute goes by and you have to pull at his shirt, damp with sweat, to catch his attention. Silently begging him once more to let go. He steps away with a groan, pushing away whatever is left of the man. He turns to you, chains swinging, tangled.
Arturo grabs your forearm, his hand is soft on your skin, not tight, not tugging you away like you had expected, gently pulling you to the stairs out of the club. He gives Ramón a look on the way out, grunting a half-apology, half-he-deserved-it speech. His friend just stands there as others slowly start cleaning up after him, you know Ramón won’t accept his apology, as in his eyes there is nothing to apologize for.
The walk back to the car is silent. You can tell Arturo is still boiling with anger, unspent rage waiting to be used. You follow him still, whispering a soft thank you as he opens the door to the car for you. The leather seat is cold under your thighs and your eyes look out to him through the window, he stands still, hands perched on either side of the rooftop.
He is looking up at the club, lips pursed, biting his tongue. Don’t do it, you think, get in the car with me. After a few seconds, he does, pushing himself straight, walking to the driver’s side,
‘’It wasn’t worth it, ‘’ you tell him as he starts the car, ‘’ to go back and finish this. ‘’
He keeps breathing, in and out, hands tightening around the wheel every once in a while. His arm leans behind your seat as he rolls out of the parking lot. He glances at you for a moment, but still, he doesn’t speak.
You take a look at your right hand, there are no shards of glass stuck, but even if the blood has dried out in some places, it still hurts when you close your fist,
‘’ Is it bad? ‘’ he breathes out after a moment.
‘’ It’s fine, most of the glass ended up in his face anyway. ‘’
That makes him crack a smile, barely there, just the corner of his cheek pulling up. His eyes soften as he looks at you, for the first time since leaving the club,
‘’ Will you let me take care of it when we get home? ‘’
You look back at him, softly pressing your left hand at the base of his neck, caressing the shaved hair,
‘’ Of course. ‘’
His hand finds your thigh, resting it gently on the skin,
‘’ I didn’t mean to make you… uncomfortable, you know? ‘’
You sigh, your own hand falling back onto your lap. You play again with the dried blood on your hand, pulling at it. It scared the shit out of you, is what happened. You are not blind, you know what Arturo and his friends do when you are not around, you see the guns peaking out of their jeans and how the coke that they pass around is definitely from its original packaging. You are not blind, but you do care for him,
‘’ I just don’t want you to get hurt, is all. ‘’ you turn to him, forcing a smile on your lips, ‘’ I like your pretty face untouched, I can’t bring a scarface back to my parents’ house. ‘’
He scoffs as he leans forward and pinches your thigh. You squeal, pushing his hand away,
‘’ Don’t do that! ‘’
‘’ You really smashed a bottle on his head? ‘’
‘’ I- ‘’ you laugh, forcing his hand to stay on his lap, ‘’ I did. ‘’
‘’ I knew they said going out with me was bringing out your wild side, but, mami, that shit’s wild wild. ‘’
You roll your eyes, ‘’ It’s not like I’m an outlaw all of the sudden. I was just defending myself, I’ll let you know. ‘’
‘’ Well, next time you let that to me, hm? ‘’
‘’ I will be calling the police first. I am not bailing you out again. ‘’
He groans as he brings your hand up to his mouth, pressing a kiss to the skin,
‘’ You really are no fun. I’m here trying to be romantic- ‘’
He rabbles away, like he always does, about this and that, how it ‘happen only one time’, that he ‘paid you back’. You never thought Arturo and you would work this well together, a weird match, out of god knows where. You don’t mind it, you think, you can take it. The wild, the blood, the crazy.
As long as you're with him.

Stories That Are Told
Pairing: Tarrant “Hatter” Hightopp x Reader
Pronouns: She/Her
Word Count: 2.2k
Summary: (Y/n)’s so used to being the background character in everyone’s story that she forget she can be the main character in her own.
Warnings: Slight angst but majority fluff!
A/N: I love this man with my whole being omg pls
Stumbling into Wonderland with Alice had been a wonderful thing for not only Alice, but (Y/n) as well. For Alice it was an escape from all the things she didn’t wanna do and would never wanna do. She wasn’t forced to marry some sod of a guy who’d make her miserable for the rest of her life or to be the proper lady she was expected to be, but instead she got a taste of freedom. And although it was an escape for (Y/n) as well, it was an escape of a different kind.
In the other world, with it’s dreary skies and monotonous patterns and cycles, (Y/n) lived a very humdrum life. Her family had never been as fortunate as Alice in any ways of the sorts, it was a miracle that they were friends to begin with. Alice’s father had been friends with (Y/n)’s since boyhood and because of that, he always made sure they knew they were welcome to anything of his that they wished. And while (Y/n)’s father had never taken advantage of that from the way Alice’s mother treated (Y/n) and her family, it wouldn’t be hard to think otherwise.
When Charles was still around, she hadn’t done anything out of line. The older woman always kept to herself, occasionally having an afternoon cup of tea with her own mom. However, her true colors and feelings came to light after the passing of her husband. During the next few months after her husband’s absence, the (L/n)s were there for Kingsleighs. Although they didn’t have the funds to help them monetarily (for they also didn’t need it), they offered their labor and services to the two as much as they needed. Farm work, house cleaning, garden maintenance. Anything you could think they had done. But as soon as Helen was well (as well as you could be after losing someone so dear) , she had forbid them from coming to their property. She didn’t believe her and Alice should associate with people of “such low stature” because it didn’t “align with their image”. But that had never stopped Alice.
Anywhere Alice went, (Y/n) was always there by her side right along with her. They practically went everywhere together and that hadn’t changed since they arrived in Wonderland. (Y/n) was grateful that she had chased after her friend. It was like she knew something would happen. Afterall, crazy things always happen when you put two curious girls together for more than a moment. The friends they had made since they arrived were nothing short of lovely. She knew her sister would describe them as odd characters and disturbing individuals. Telling her to stay far away from them and to not associate herself with those types. But what was wrong with being odd or even disturbing? The only things worth doing in life were a bit odd and disturbing and if that made her peculiar than so be it.
For the first time in her life, she felt as though she belonged. Sure, it wasn’t her story nor her destiny to be here as it was Alice but that did not mean she did not appreciate Wonderland for what it was. The story had never been her story, not here, and certainly not where they were from. Alice was the main chat and she was the topic that would get trickled in after.
“Everyone has a part to play, (Y/n). Even if it is not large or as set in stone, each person’s role is necessary for the story to progress, even yours. You’ll see.” the words of that tricky caterpillar replayed in her head over and over again whenever she had a moment to think. What had he meant by that? Was her story not more than to be here in support of her dearest friend and the latest edition to their friends? Was she not just a tool in the scheme of things? (Y/n) had never known people of lesser importance as herself to contribute much of anything big to a legacy as large as Alice’s!
From her end of the table, she watched as Hatter threw his hat high into the air before it landed on his head causing everyone to erupt in a jostled mess of laughter and cheering. She smiled fondly from a far. Tarrant was a kind man. No matter what was going on or where they were, he always had a way of making her feel included. That’s just who he was. He had known what it was like to feel excluded from things and the last thing he’d wanna do is be the cause of that for someone else. But it was nothing more than his nature, that’s it.
“You know, you should just tell him how you feel.” a velvety voice sounded from beside her ear causing her to jump. The (h/c) haired girl glared at the purple cat, reaching a hand to swat him away but he disappeared once more before appearing on her other side. “He watches you often, even when there is not many around to see. But I always do of course.” The Cheshire cat said in a sure tell tone. The girl scoffed at him, shoving another small pastry into her mouth.
“I’m not in the mood for one of your jokes today, cat. So if you’ve come to mock my feelings during my 2nd to last day in Wonderland, I wish you well and send you off.” she huffed out, crossing her arms across her chest, turning her gaze away from him back to Tarrant who was already looking at her. The Hatter gave her a secret wink and a smile before turning back to the March Hare who seemed rather frazzled about something. Or perhaps excited. But once again, the grinning cat appeared in front of her face once more.
“Silly girl, you ignore the plain truth in front of you? I can see why you and Alice get along so well, both of you can be quite foolish. Oh well, the story isn’t over yet after all.” and with that he was gone. What did he mean by that? The story was clearly over. Alice had done what she set out to do. The Jabberwocky had been slain, the White Queen ruled once again, and all had been made well. And what was with everyone with stories? Not everything you can do will always be a story and not every story comes to an end. She decided not to dwell much on it. This was her last night she’d ever spend in Wonderland and she’d rather like to keep it in good memory.
So when the White Queen offered her a hand to dance she took it, their dresses swaying in the wind in oppositional unison. They all danced with one another, twirling, laughing, and having a grand time. The entire time the smile never once left (Y/n)’s face which a certain hatted man enjoyed with all his being.
--------------------------------------------
“I can’t believe you’re leaving today. It seems as if it was only yesterday when you arrived.” the girl swiveled around to see the red head there, a bittersweet smile on his face. His smile grew once she turned to face him. Removing his hat, he bowed as he grabbed one of her hands placing a delicate kiss to the top of it. “I am delighted to have known a woman as graceful as you.” hot tears sprung into her eyes which she quickly got rid of before he stood up. Giggling some she hopped onto the large sit swing, motioning for him to join her.
“Don’t get sad yet, Hatter. I’ve still got a few hours left. You can’t rid of me that easily.” he joined her on the swing, a wide grin still on his face. Although it was partly real, she could tell there was some sadness lingering behind it. (Y/n) turned her gaze to the sight in front of them. From the large benched swing, you could see just about all of wonderland over the edge of the cliff. “Besides, there’s not much to miss. I’m just me.”
“And ‘just you’ is a lot! I’ll miss everything about you. The way you mimic the bird calls you hear, the way you get excited when the rock you skipped across the water goes further than you imagined,” she looked at him in shock as he continued to speak, “E-even the smaller things like how you leave the crust of your sandwich for last and give your crumbs to the ants. But I think more importantly I’ll...I’ll just miss your presence.” he said the last part softly, staring off the edge of the cliff to avoid her gaze. A million thoughts raced through her heads as he spoke. Could it really be? Could he really share the same feelings as she did? (Y/n) reached a shaky (s/c) hand to lay on top of Hatter’s pale one, intertwining their fingers.
“Hatter, I've got something to tell you. During my time here in Wonderland, I’ve enjoyed every second I’ve had with everyone. But more importantly, I’ve enjoyed my time so much with you and I believe it’s only fair to share with you that my feelings I have for you go beyond those of normal friendship. I guess you can say I’ve grown...quite mad for you.” his head whipped to face her as he stared into her eyes, tears welling within his own. He flashed her another smile except this one was genuine, filled with the love and warmth he had shown her the entirety of her time in Wonderland.
“(Y/n)! Alice sent me to fetch you. I’m afraid it’s time for the two of you to head back.”
-----------------------------
After a lot of shedded tears, heartfelt speeches, and goodbyes that were nothing short of wholesome, it was time for the two to head home. Alice patted (Y/n)’s shoulder before holding her arm out for her to grab. As they neared the portal, (Y/n) turned around once more to stare at her friends but when she got to Tarrant, her heart began to break. The gaze they held with one another was long until she simply couldn’t take it. Without thinking she ran up to him once more, grabbing his shoulders tightly.
“Hatter, Tarrant, I need to know how you feel. I couldn’t live with myself if I left and never knew.” he shook his head, looking away from her as he tried to stop the waterworks that were withheld behind the dam. Hot tears streamed down the delicate skin of the girl’s face. “Hatter...please.” her voice was broken as she begged.
“I believe I wasn’t honest myself either. I am completely enamored by you, my dear. I wish I had said something sooner but even though I couldn’t, I’ll always hold a special place for you in here.” he said, placing a hand over his heart. Standing on the tips of her toes, she leaned forward placing a quick peck to his cheek.
“What if it isn’t too late? What if I stayed?” she started, watching as he shook his head, “Hatter listen! You may think I’d regret if I stay but I think I would regret even more not following my heart the first time it’s ever tried to tell me something. Nothing would make me happier than staying here with you...that is if you’d allow it.” a silence fell over as everyone awaited his answer. Without another thought Hatter leaned down, pressing his lips to hers. The kiss was soft and sweet. Filled with a silent promise, a silent vow to care for her as deeply as his heart will allow.
“I do not know what I did to get so lucky, but I would do it again if needed.” she felt herself grow flustered at his words. A quick peck was placed on his lips before walking over to Alice once again. The blonde had tears of her own in her eyes. She was glad her friend had found something to fight for, something to call her own. But also for the first time in many years, they would not see each other everyday as they once did. They both stared at each other before throwing themselves into each other's arms, laughing in unison as bittersweet tears fell.
“Good luck. Make sure you put your foot down. You’re Alice! You listen to no one and march to no one’s drum but your own.” Alice gave her a curt nod.
“Take care. We’ll meet again, do not doubt it.”
Although Alice’s story had seemingly come to an end, it seemed as though (Y/n)’s story was just beginning. For once she wasn’t the side character in someone’s tale, but the main character in her own.

Your mind was a mixture of light and dark, complimentary colors, and images burned into your mind that you wanted to paint later. If there wasn’t a brush in your hand you were taking notes with a pencil, sketching the world around it through eyes that only you saw it from. You captured everyday life like the older woman with the mesh bag she had filled with fruit or the man with his red beard, a few weeks unkept, napping in the alley to get a break from the heat. You took these people, characters of the world and had them live forever on the canvas you painted on.
Art was your passion. You loved walking around Hollywood with a set of watercolors or a notebook to sketch in and take in the lives of others. There was some sort of poetic feeling of taking a stranger from the street and importilizing them as a character in your art. You created a narrative for them that they may not be living. It was cathartic and you’d spend hours of your day people watching until you finally found the right subject.
Sketching out a bump on someone's nose that might have come from a childhood accident or from their Freshman year of college when they drunkenly fell down the front steps of the dorm, you created their unknown life story as you placed each line of their face into place. If you didn’t infuse their story into the piece it was just some colorful person without any meaning. But you wanted to give the viewer of your art a full piece. They should be able to look at your picture and understand the life that the subject lived; your art created that life.
It was crazy to think that a few years before you were in school thinking about becoming an English teacher. It was a chance meeting at a grocery store when you ran into your old friend Saul’s mother. When you had been kids the pair of you had been so close and secretly your mothers had both had fingers crossed for a wedding that never happened. The pair of you split apart the summer after senior year to set out of a life you each wanted. His mother had invited you over for dinner, which she also invited her son to, thrusting the pair of you back into each other's lives.
Oddly enough, it was like time hadn’t passed between you. The easiness of your friendship coming back without even trying and soon the pair of you were hanging out on almost a daily basis. With your schedule up helped manage his house, buying groceries, doing some cleaning, and running a few errands he never remembered. In return you had a few rooms to yourself. Slash had wanted to make sure you had time for your art as well as a space for it.
Dressing in a white floral pattern sundress you grabbed your bag that contained your art supplies. You wanted to get to the park early and set up a blanket you could spend the day sketching and painting on. You planned to soak up the sun in your skin and use the good lighting to get some new work to sell for the craft fair this weekend. As you turned to grab the picnic foods you had made the night before you saw Axl sitting at the counter. His green eyes looked up, smiling when he saw you.
“Hey, Y/N. Slash just left. I’m going to leave in a minute. I was just finishing up some lyrics.” he was always over and you thought that he was lonely in his role as lead singer. Even though Axl put on this tough guy imagine and had a reputation it was like he needed to work for that because he thought that was what rock stars were supposed to do. Whenever he was around you he seemed lost, always making extra conversation or taking the time to go walk to the coffee cafe with you and wait in line, even if he didn't want anything.
“I’m heading out for a day in the park.” you told him, moving the wax paper covered sandwiches into a small wicker basket, along with some fruit and cheese, some water, and a bottle of wine. You could feel his eyes on you, “I’m over packing and have more than enough if you want to come with me?” you let your eyes flutter up from packing the basket to look at him. “I’ll leave you alone to write because I’m just going to spend the time working on some new portraits.” It was important to you that you set up expectations. There was no need for him to feel like he was going there to entertain you or vice versa.
“I’d love to go. You don’t mind?” he asked as you finished packing up the wicker basket. You shook your head no, letting him pick up the food you had just packaged and leading you outside, “What park did you want to go to? I can drive us there.” you told him what you were thinking, getting comfortable in the convertible.
When you had moved in with Slash you had forged fast friendships with his bandmates. Even though you weren’t at every show and didn't always go backstage you had gotten close to them in different ways. On Wednesday nights you hosted a dinner party where you made them all come by so you had an excuse to cook for them. When someone had a ripped piece of clothing at a show you’d quietly take out your sewing kit, stitching patches in jeans and repairing favorite band shirts. You liked being around them all because of how animated everyone was; they were so easy to draw. You had a whole sketchbook of black and white images from the band. Your favorite subjects were Slash and Axl, mainly because they were the two you were around the most and had the most flexibility when it came to moods.
Axl had grown close to you, drawn into the caring nature you had. It was hard for him to understand that someone would do things for him without expecting anything in return. The first time that you had been out drinking with them and insisted Axl came home with you so you knew he was safe he had thought was a come on. When you helped him drink water and gave him aspirin before tucking him into bed he was shocked. Even more shocking was waking up to find his clothes washed and folded on the guest room chair and you carrying in a breakfast tray of freshly made foods. That’s just how you showed you cared about your friends. Being the mother of the group and taking care of them helped you feel like you were contributing as a friend.
Spreading out the blanket under the Weeping Willow tree. You motioned for Axl to sit as you toed off your sandals and moved to sit down. Digging through your bag you set out your sketch pad and pencils. You could see Axl out of the corner of your eye. He didn’t seem to know what to do. You pulled him down to the blanket, settling him so he could rest his back against the tree. You pulled off his shoes and socks and handed him his notebook as you went about unpacking your picnic so he could pick at food if he wanted to.
With him settled in the shade you laid down, belly first in the sun. Picking up your pencil you scanned the park until you found an older man feeding the pigeons. Your eyes followed his movements for a few minutes before you started your sketch. The feeling of the warm sun on the back of your thighs as you twirled the pencil in your hand, capturing all the features of the man.
As you drew you could feel Axl’s eyes on you. At first it was just light glances every few minutes and then it turned to heavy long looks where his eyes were watching you. Ignoring the way his stares made you blush, chalking up the pinkness in your cheeks as just sun exposure.
A hand slid over your calf, over the back of your thighs before going over your dress and laying on the flat of your back. You turned your face upward looking at Axl watching you. His eyes flickering from your art up to your face. There was a pause, curiosity and interest in what he was going to do next. Your heart is beating in your chest even though your body is frozen, wondering what he was up to.
“Do you want to take a break and eat? You’ve been working for a couple hours.” Looking past him you saw the sun had changed position in the sky and time had gotten away from you. Sitting up you handed out sandwiches, positioning yourself comfortably besides him in the shade of the tree.
Axl had been following you for most of the spring and now into summer. He's around all the time and often comes along for days like this. But you liked having him around. You thought that he needed the quiet comfortable silence between the pair of you; so much of his life was filled with noise.
“Y/N, do you like this?” He asked, peeling off the crust to his sandwich. The action seemed to be more of a need to keep his hands busy instead of a dislike for the bed.
“Do I like this? Picnics in the park?” You didn’t know exactly what he meant. Axl sometimes seemed to talk in riddles not wanting to fully play all of his cards.
“Being with me.” He didn’t look up to meet your eyes at this, almost embarrassed to be talking about it. You weren’t like Axl. There was no need to talk in riddles or have him guessing how you felt.
“Of course I like having you around, Axl. It’s nice to be able to spend time with someone I like.” He looked up, almost surprised that someone would like to be around him. “I’ve had a crush on you for a few months and it’s nice to get to know you more and find more reasons to like you.” You didn’t feel nervous telling him this. It actually felt like a relief to get it off your chest.
He put down his sandwich, wiping crumbs off on his shirt and looking at his hands to make sure that they were clean. Before you could figure out what he was going to do he had a hand in your hair, tugging you closer to him in a soft kiss. For months you had been thinking about what it would be like to kiss him on one of your lazy afternoons together and now it was happening.
Instead of letting him pull away and think about what he had just done you slid onto his lap, letting your hands wrap around him. His free hand was on your back holding you close as the pair of you made out like teenagers under the shade of the willow tree.
Finally, the pair of you pulled away, swollen plush lips and wild curious eyes watching each other. This new change between the pair of you sparkling like wonder between the pair of you. Axl was playing with a piece of your hair, wrapping the brown lock around his finger like he had been wanting to do for months.
“Does this mean we can finally start dating?” You asked, watching the way he smirked at this question. “Because I don’t know how many more times you can just casually show up without Slash catching on. And I don’t know how many more picnics I can plan without touching you.” You admitted, his lips were on your chin and up your jaw.
“Mhhh, I’ve been waiting for this for so long and now I can have you all to myself.” His voice whispered huskily to you kissing your earlobe. He pulled away to look at you again. “You have to tell Slash.” He said, making you laugh as you rolled your eyes. If that’s what it would take to have Axl you didn’t mind telling your best friend about the relationship.
“You take care of me and I’ll take care of everything else, babe.” You promised, meaning it. This was everything that you had wanted for months and now you were getting it. The man that you had started falling for was yours. It had only taken months worth of picnics to get him.

Hands Off the Wheel
Hournite fluff ~ ❤️
~.~
When she gets there, Yolanda shoves his bag on the coffee table over to dump her own, giving Rick the boot on the sofa to make room for her.
“Where’s Beth?” She reaches for the blanket throw, tossing it over her legs and pulls out her phone.
“Library.”
Yolanda glances up from her Instagram feed.
Rick scowls, her unsaid words irritating him. “I’ll do it tomorrow.”
“You said that yesterday.”
“I know,” Rick bites out. “I mean it this time.”
“You can’t hide this forever.”
“I can, actually.”
Courtney walks in with the cookies from her mom. Yolanda picks a soft one from the corner while Rick scoops up five at once.
“Are we talking about what I think we’re talking about?”
“Yes,” Yolanda says at the same time Rick says, “No.”
The girls share a look.
Courtney teeters on the arm of the sofa, something she’d been scolded not to do five hundred times by Pat but has yet to listen. “We can help you if you want.”
Rick stops eating cookies to lick at his chocolate-stained thumb. “How?”
“Well…” Courtney crosses a leg over the other. “We can drop hints about it, warm her up to the idea…”
Rick leans back against the sofa and closes his eyes with a soft groan. “You make it sound like it’s something she needs to be warmed up to.”
“No!” Courtney backtracks when Yolanda lets out a little laugh.
“No! That’s not what I mean!”
“It’s what you said, Court.”
Courtney throws a half-moist cookie at Yolanda, earning a high shriek in response as she wipes chocolate out of her hair.
Rick lets out a weary sigh, palms still pressed over his eyes. “Maybe I’m overthinking this and it’s just something I’ll get rid of. I don’t need to tell Beth at all. We can forget it ever happened.”
“Tell me what?”
They all jump.
“Jesus!” Rick yelps as his face warms. “How long have you been there?”
Beth stands in the doorway next to Pat, Chuck perched on top of her coiffed hair. She slides her backpack down her arm to smile confusedly at her friends. “A few seconds?” She looks up at Pat. “My bike had a flat. Pat drove me in.”
“A flat!?” Courtney exclaims. “Are you okay?”
“She’s fine,” Pat says, heading into the kitchen for the source of the cookie scent, the plate between the teens empty with crumbs.
Beth waves off her concern. “Yeah, I’m fine. What does Rick want to tell me?”
Yolanda looks at Rick who looks at Courtney who looks back at Rick.
“Um,” he says.
“He likes your outfit?” Yolanda fills in. She gets up and leaves the awkward room.
Beth doesn’t buy it, folding her arms over her blue striped blouse. “What’s so odd about that?”
“Nothing,” Rick reassures her, wiping his sweaty hands against his jeans. “It’s um. Can I talk to you, outside? Alone?”
Beth tilts her head at him. “...Why?”
“Because I want to tell you that thing. That I need to tell you.”
Courtney stares at them, fixated.
“It’s nothing bad!” she blurts out when Beth catches her eye.
Her shoulders relax and she agrees, walking back out with Rick.
“Did I say something to bother you or something or maybe Chuck went out of line? Because obviously I’m missing something and everyone else knows and I get that I usually miss some stuff sometimes but this feels really weird and I’m sorry if I—”
“I built you a car.”
Beth blinks. “I beg your pardon?”
Rick swallows. “A car. I fixed one up for you. I know you didn’t ask but you’ve been studying for your license and then I had a few parts and then a few weeks went by and suddenly I had a Dodge Challenger in my driveway...”
Her expressive eyes are round and wide, Rick can’t tell what she’s thinking when her mouth parts like that. He shifts his weight from one foot to another, trying not to panic. “Look, Beth, I know you didn’t ask for a car, certainly not from me, but it just sort of happened, so....”
The gears turned slowly in her head. “You built me. A car. From car parts. For me.”
“...You don’t have to accept it. I can probably sell it off or something—”
Beth’s hands are in her afro, processing Rick’s words at last and shrieks. Rick startles, taking a step back. “Are you kidding?” She cries. “You built me a car?!”
“I’m sorry!”
“You’re sorry!?” Beth launches at him, hugging him hard enough for Rick to stumble backwards. “Don’t be sorry!”
Rick wasn’t yet prepared to have her in his arms, but she’s squeezing so fiercely he can’t help but hug her just as tight. “So you’re not weirded out?”
Beth laughs and pulls away, staring out across the street before turning back. “I don’t know what to say!” She hits his arm excitedly. “Rick!! That’s crazy! You’re amazing! Why would you do that for me?”
“You’re the only one I ever really want to make things for,” he answers honestly.
A huge grin breaks across her face and then she’s reaching up to hug him again. “What colour is it?”
Rick fights back his smirk. “Green for Dr. Mid-Nite? It matches your suit.”
“Riiiiick!” She squeals, jumping up and down in an exuberant happy dance and puts a hand to her face and sits down. “I need a second.”
Rick watches as she stares wide-eyed at her shoes, processing the information.
“It’s just a car.”
“It is not just a car and you know it! It’s a car!” She slaps her hands over her cheeks. “Oh my gosh!”
“Do you wanna see it?”
“Yes!”
They get ready to go. Courtney and Yolanda peek out the front window of the living room with a second batch of cookies, giving Rick very annoying, very knowing looks.
Yolanda’s nose scrunches up with amusement when Beth runs out with her purse and straps herself into Rick’s passenger seat, honking on the horn to get Rick to pick up the pace and drive her to West Farms.
“Sounds like she’s pretty happy ‘bout that car,” she says.
They toss his keys through the window. Rick twirls them around his hand with a half-hearted eye roll when Courtney starts making kissing noises at him.
~.~
“You pushed the seat up!” Beth palms at the steering wheel as she gets a feel for the make, grinning from ear to ear.
Rick watches with his chin propped up by his hand, elbow over the black horizontal stripes on the hood with an easy smile. “Course I did. You’re tiny.”
He’s rewarded with a splutter behind the dashboard. “And it’s safe?”
“Pat looked it over after I did.”
She checks for herself anyway and Rick is proud of her for it, scanning the interior, exterior and engine with the X-Ray vision mode of her goggles.
They go for a test drive around the wide roads of the Farm Lands, Rick answering her questions as they pop up. She still needs to pass her final test for her licence next month, but he’s not worried about that. Beth had a round of anxiety behind the wheel when she first started learning, but with Rick and, surprisingly, Mike’s encouragement (definitely not Courtney’s), she managed to push through. Beth parks along the dirt stretch of Rick’s property and sighs like a dream.
“You were great. You looked comfortable.”
Beth ducks her head with a timid smile at his praise. Her hands fall to her lap and she squeezes her fingers together over her navy blue flared pants. “I can’t believe you did this all by yourself.”
Rick shrugs, somehow more embarrassed now than before trying to choke the words out on Courtney’s front porch. “It’s just a 2008. It’s not fancy.”
All of the parts might’ve come from Zeek’s junkyard but Beth doesn’t seem to care how it was made by her reverence. “Yes, it is.” Her hand runs along the leather seat and rests it on the centre console. “It’s beautiful, Rick.”
She laughs. It’s contagious and strings him along until her giddiness simmers down and looks at him some more with that appraising eye of hers. Rick wants to look out the window to diffuse the sudden heat when she does that. He can’t. He wants to suffer in it.
“I think I’m in love.”
Her smile is soft and light and as the sun sets orange outside behind her, Rick is compelled to agree.
“Good. I’m glad you like it so much.”
Beth bites her lip and nods. Her fingers start to tap, and Rick frowns at them, wondering why she’s picking up the tick she developed before she was at ease in the driver’s seat.
“What?” he prods when Beth goes silent, concerned. “Beth?”
“Yeah, um…” Beth looks out the window, at Rick’s house and his yellow Mustang a little further ahead. The expanse of field and the dusk horizon overhead. Beth meets his caring gaze. And the power in it pulls him forward unwittingly. Her intensity has him breathless.
She takes his hand to squeeze. “I’m not talking about the car.”
~.~
“Did it work?” Court cajoles when Rick comes back through the front. “Did Beth kiss you?”
He blushes, moving past her to get his bag.
“That’s not why I built it,” he complains for the hundredth time.
“She kissed him,” Yolanda decides without even looking up from her phone, still snuggled into the spot she stole from him on the couch. “Beth just posted the relationship on Facebook.”
Court sticks out her tongue and fake gags. “Beth still uses Facebook?”
“Hey.” Rick swipes the final cookie from the counter as she continues with her theatrics. “Pat uses Facebook.”
Courtney groans. “That’s my point!”
Rick walks out. “Later.”
Yolanda sits up straight. “What? Where are you going?”
“Well...Beth took the car to her house so....” Rick stops at the doorway, donning a stupid smirk as it properly sinks in. “I gotta drive my girlfriend’s bike home.”

Pairing: Cordelia Goode x Reader
Prompt: oK so how about like?? Delia x reader and they're both in love af but they think the other has no feelings for them so they're both tripping over themselves to make the other love them and then madison comes in and she's just like 'stop being dumb' and they finally realise how much the other loves them.
I’m sorry but my ed crept back in and im not horny enough to put more thought into writing so just ignore the massive time skip at “---”. enjoy, you strange people xo
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*(*❦ω❦)*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
It's crazy. Falling. You see? We don't say "rising into love". There is in it, the idea of the fall. And it goes back to extremely fundamental things. That there is always a curious tie at some point between the fall and the creation. Taking this ghastly risk is the condition of there being life. You see, for all life is an act of faith and an act of gamble...
Between Cordelia Goode's ears were pretty brown eyes and a mind full of thoughts. Brown eyes were never really your favourite until you saw them on her. You knew yourself that somehow, over the years you got to know Cordelia; working with her, befriending her, carrying her home from the bar one night when she got far too drunk, letting her cry into your shoulder when her job became too real and she could feel her mother's words hanging over her head.
When you started falling for the woman with those beautiful brown eyes.
Somehow, her eyes were now your favourite colour.
Not brown- brown wasn't simply the word for the colour. Cordelia's eyes were the colour of aged whiskey. Sometimes they were the only two safe shots of tequila that you could see. Sometimes they were a beautiful milk chocolate dotted with exposed honeycomb. Once when she had asked you to help her decorate the garden for the Summer Equinox- she had given Zoe enough money to take the girls on a field trip for the day so she could give the girls a little party. You stood watching her in her denim shorts and her white button up. When she had stepped back and put her arm around you to admire both of your handy work you could have sworn her eyes were glowing like fresh magma.
Her hand lay on your waist a split second too long.
You had fallen in love with the Supreme.
"Yo, bitch!" Madison Montgomery's usual entrance phrase disturbed you from your imagination. You raised your brow and smirked.
"Yes, Madison?"
The blonde took her sunglasses off her face and closed them with a slight snap. "The girls want to know if you wanna come to play Pysch! with us," she said. Her lips were curled in what could almost be described as a friendly smile. You were one of the few honoured to know that under Madison's bitchy white girl facade there was actually a very sweet someone lurking under there.
You thought for a moment and put your pen down. "I won't be long- I just have to log these last few names and I'll be there," you tell her. Madison rolled her eyes and waved her hand, the pen lifted itself and wrote the last thirteen names within seconds. "You're done. Let's go, Y/N."
Madison didn't even give you a minute to say anything before she walked out of the room. "Come on, bitch. Don't make me use my powers!" she called from the hallway, finally motivating you to move.
The girls sat in a circle in Zoe's bedroom. Lights off. Candles lit.
Zoe, Queenie, Mallory, and Coco were indulged in their phones for the game. Madison turned to you and held up her phone to show you the question. "What is Zoe's deepest, darkest secret?" she read. "You gotta answer it and the person with the most votes wins. It lasts for ten rounds and it can be fucking hilarious."
Zoe's face was red with laughter at the answers. "She's not actually a witch- that's not even funny," she gasped through cackles. She then sobered slightly. "She likes to watch Danny Devito movies while masturbating and screaming 'I am a dirty man'."
Madison was the only one who chortled at that.
You joined the game and got your best answers ready in your head. "If Madison got arrested tomorrow what would it be for?"
Madison rolled her eyes and muttered something about knowing exactly what everyone was about to answer. You smirked slightly, sensing her slight apprehension.
Prostitution.
Murder. Third-degree.
Fucking up the brakes on a bus full of frat boys.
Public Nudity.
"Gosh, you're so original," she muttered, glaring right at Zoe, who just shrugged.
"It's the rules of the game, bitch. Go all in, don't get offended," she replied.
The game pinged for the next question.
"What is on Y/N's mind right now?"
Coco gave a loud "Ha!" and typed quickly, along with the other girls who were all typing as quickly as possible to get their answers in first.
A quiet knock came from the other side of the door and Cordelia poked her head around. "Sorry to interrupt, girls. Y/N, could I borrow you for a moment?" she asked, voice sweet and angelic. You bounced up as soon as she finished the sentence and obliged straight away. You were met with a sweet smile.
Madison flicked her brows. "Speak of the devil," she muttered, winking at Delia's slightly confused face. As you left, your phone pinged to announce the results just before you left the game.
Cordelia 🥵🥵🥵
Delia. I ship it <3
Getting knuckle deep finger fucked by the HWIC
French fries
You quickly shut off your phone screen before Cordelia could see.
"What's the matter, Delia?" You asked, practically skipping alongside her. There was a vibrant air of satisfaction between you.
Cordelia shook her head, her blonde hair bobbing with her movements. “I just wanted to know if you’d like to go out.”
You felt your heart stop. “Go out?”
Cordelia looked hurt by the confusion on your face.
“Yes. Would you like to join me in the garden?”
“Oh,” you realised, slightly disappointed. “I would love to.”
---
"For the love of Hades. Right, I don’t mean to sound rude or anything because I have some understanding that lesbians are fucking useless because of the fear of appearing to be predatory because the media is an asshole,” Madison continued. “But I don’t really think any of us can eat at this table anymore without choking on the fucking sexual tension between the both of you.”
Cordelia looked shocked. “It’s not that-”
“I’m a fucking mindreader! You do get that I can fucking hear the things that you say in your head about what you want to do to Y/N? I’m one gutter minded bitch and not even I’m creative enough to come up with that shit while I’m eating my fucking apple turnover!”
You blushed hard and chuckled.
Madison’s neck snapped towards you. “Oh, and don’t getting me fucking started on you! Do you know how fucking unsanitary it would be to carry out your little fantasies of fucking Cordy on the kitchen counter? Not even for us but the amount of fucking crumbs that would work into your nooks and crannies would be like trying to spring clean Myrtle's fucking hair! "
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Cordelia chuckled nervously. Her face turning a shade of red. “I’m sure Y/N’s got plenty of better options.”
Madison dropped her face in her hands and rubbed her temples. “God, you bitches are going to put fucking years on my skin.”
“Oh, give me a break, Madison.”
Cordelia stumbled foward slightly, having been tripped up by some unseeable force and sending her tumbling into you. Her hands lay against your chest for that split second too long once more.
Your lips parted for a moment and your breath hitched as you both watched Madison smirk and leave the room. It felt like your heart was beating at a thousand miles an hour. You surroundings were unnoticable to you now; replaced by unidentifiable whirls of colour and light. Your hand rested flat on Cordelia’s cheek. It was different this time. Not the spark, that had been there every time you touched. It was the fact that you were both too slow to ignore the ignition that started in your chests.
You saw her eyebrows falter from their previously confident expression, like all of her preparation and barriers and walls had fallen down and she was too slow to replace them. Cordelia pursed her lips, presumably trying to figure out what she should say to you. Again, she was too slow as you inhaled sharply and thrust yourself forward to catch her lips.
Delia was quick to mould herself to the curves of your front, hands falling to the small of your back on a collision course as she backed you into the dining room table. You smoothed your hands over the contours of her jaw, her collar bones, breasts, hips like you were a master pianist playing a brilliant concerto. Her body was the only instrument you longed to play; her moans the only melody that you longed to draw from her.
As her lips glided across your own, everything came together like pieces into place. You thought back one of those late nights in the kitchen. The way Delia’s fingers had so enthusiastically laced through yours during the late night in the kitchen when you had both stayed up until the wee hours of the morning talking about life. How the witch had turned the radio on and taken your hand while you danced to some song by REO Speedwagon. Twirling you through the night. “Can’t fight this feeling” was the song. Ironic, now that you thought about it. It seemed as though fighting her feelings was what she had been doing the entire time.
She twirled you around in the light of the dim television and the refrigerator when the songs were upbeat, even going as far as dipping you and pulling you up again. Bare thighs against your own in her shorts and oversized shirt. When the songs that were played were slower, she was more gentle. Until eventually you swayed in a slow two-step, your head against her chest, and hers against yours. The air was thick with something pure. Something untouched.
You had no idea why you ever just thought this was something two best friends did. More so, you had no idea why you didn’t lean back and dip into her lips and allow your souls to dance the waltz that they were so clearly destined for.
Cordelia’s thumb and finger lay on either side of your jaw as she continued to kiss you as if her soul depended on it. Her fingers interlocked with yours against the table.
She broke away, tears had fallen down her cheeks and made your heart melt. “Oh-ho,” you chuckled, mouth agape at her sight. “Why the tears, my love?”
Cordelia laughed, wiping away her tears. “I’ve longed to do that for so long,” she replied. “So, so long.”
You chuckled at her sweetness and the display of pure love that you were so unaccustomed to.
“I fell in love with you, Y/N. I don’t think I will ever stop falling in love with you. You’ve created this storm of beautiful chaos in me,” she continued. “Do you remember that night where I was really sleepy, so you let me just stay in your room? How I had fallen asleep on top of you by accident and you wrapped your arms around me and hummed a lullaby?”
You nodded, remember the feeling of waking up with the Supreme in your arms.
“I was wide awake,” she told you. A delicate smile arose.
You chuckled into her touch.
“Oh, sweetheart,” you replied, drawing her closer, her blonde hair twirled in your fingers. “I know you were.”

“Where’d you say this thing was?” Your question was directed at the back of Bakugou’s head, his spiky blond hair seemingly flatter from how much he’d been sweating the past few hours.
“It’s not much farther,” he grunted.
You knew how annoying he found complaining to be, so you’d kept quiet on that front for most of your little adventure. But your bags only seemed to be getting heavier, and the sun already hung low in the sky.
Your boyfriend had suggested that he take you camping with him as a sort of romantic getaway. Granted, that wasn’t how he’d put it, but you were inclined to think so. It wasn’t every day you got to spend so much time alone with him. But now you were hot, tired, a little sweaty, and Bakugou had hardly said a word to you on your entire hike up the mountain. Figures.
Following him for a few more minutes, he led you to a small clearing between a circle of trees and unceremoniously dropped his bag. “Here,” he announced, already crouching down to pull out the tent.
You set your own backpack on the ground, taking a look around you. The trees stretched up and up above your head, a thin canopy of leaves just allowing you to see small patches of the darkening blue sky. “This is nice,” you said, twirling to see how large the site was. There was just enough space for your tent and a small fire.
“Don’t just stand there gawking,” Bakugou said. “Help me.”
You walked over to where he’d laid out the canvas of the tent, holding it up so he could put the rods in the support system and keeping it steady as he hammered in the stakes. By the time you were finished, the sky was already streaked with pink and orange hues.
“Clear that spot for the fire,” Bakugou instructed, pointing to a patch of dirt a few feet away from your tent. “I’ll go get some wood.”
And a few minutes later, you had a fire going. You leaned against your boyfriend as you both finally sat and rested on the ground, devouring sandwiches you’d packed earlier.
“Are you having fun?” Katsuki asked you, his eyes averted to his feet as he took another bite from his sandwich.
“Yeah, actually,” you answered, watching the fire dance in front of you. “I like being out here, and the hike up wasn’t too bad.” You laced your free hand with his, turning to face him. “And I like spending time with you. Even if you can be a little bossy.”
“I’m not bossy!” Bakugou said, finally looking at you with an indignant pout.
You giggled, lightly bumping your shoulder against his. “Are too.”
“I just—want things to be perfect for you,” he grumbled, looking away again. “It’s what you deserve.”
You let go of his hand to cup his face in your palm, turning his chin so your noses could brush together. “That’s sweet of you.” You kissed him gently, and you couldn’t help but notice the way he almost seemed to melt into your lips. You went back to your sandwiches a moment later after you’d pulled away, finishing them in silence.
“S’more time!” you announced, pulling the packet of marshmallows out of your bag. You passed it to Bakugou along with a skewer and began roasting them.
The blond hovered his over a glowing ember while you immediately shoved yours into the fire, watching the puffy treat burst into flame.
“You actual fiend,” Bakugou accused disapprovingly with a quirked brow as you raised the blackened flaming marshmallow high enough to blow out.
“The pot and the kettle,” you muttered, flicking off a piece of the scorched skin. “This is the quick way to do it. Besides, now it’s all nice and melty.”
“And burnt,” he quipped, turning his own so you could see the golden brown tone his had taken on.
You shrugged, pulling out a graham cracker and a square of chocolate. “Works for me.”
You tried your best to be neat while you took a bite out of your s’more, but the marshmallow had other plans. It refused to separate from itself, pulling apart in a single gooey string and sticking to your face.
Bakugou watched you out of the corner of his eye with a smirk as he finally pulled his perfectly toasted marshmallow out of the heat of the fire. He took a bite from it plain off the skewer, still amused with watching as you got specks of chocolate and marshmallow around your mouth.
“I’m struggling,” you admitted to him, still trying to figure out the best way to smush down your dessert so it would stay together.
He chuckled at your predicament, waiting until you finished. “You’ve got something on your face.”
“I’m aware.” You pulled a wet wipe out of your bag, grateful that you’d thought to bring one. Once you were finished wiping off your sticky fingers, you moved to swipe it over your face. But Katsuki stopped you before you could, taking your wrist in his hand and sliding closer to you.
Wordlessly, his lips met your face again, pecking away the sweet fragments of your s’more from your skin. You could feel his tongue swiping out, kitten licking at a crumb of chocolate in the corner of your mouth.
“Sweet,” he mumbled lowly in that gruff voice of his, almost making you shiver and causing your cheeks to heat even more than they already were. Finally he moved in even closer, kissing you fully on the lips once more for a long moment. You relaxed into him, fingers settling under his jawline to pull him in. His tongue swiped over your bottom lip as he pushed against you, exhales from his nose mingling with yours. Katsuki finally pulled away, his lips grazing over your cheekbone as he moved to whisper in your ear. “I want to show you something.”
You nodded and he stood, offering you his hand. You took it and straightened, allowing him to lead you off into the woods.
After a few minutes of walking, you noticed the trees begin to thin out. Soon, you were standing in some sort of meadow, wild grass growing up past your ankles.
“Look up there,” Katsuki whispered.
Your eyes flicked to the dark blue canvas of sky and widened as they took in the sight above you. Thousands of stars glittered in the distance, twinkling and bright in the clear atmosphere.
“I’ve never seen so many,” you whispered in awe, entranced by the bejeweled heavens.
“There’s no light pollution up here in the mountains,” Katsuki said, letting go of your hand so he could flop down on the ground. You followed, laying at his side and looking above the treeline, the grass tickling your cheek.
You laid there together in silence for some time; fingers newly entwined, eyes tracing clusters of stars, searching for familiar constellations. You stared up for so long, your eyes began to burn. You let them drift shut, allowing your other senses to take over.
You could hear the steady breaths of Katsuki beside you, accompanying the symphony of insects orchestrating music of their own design. The grass fluttered against every inch of your exposed skin, stirring ever so slightly on every draft of cool night air. You were quick to get lost in the earthly scents surrounding you, each one deeply penetrating your lungs and seeming to spin in your mind.
“Getting tired?”
Bakugou’s rough voice shook you out of your thoughts. You opened your eyes again, focusing on the heavenly view above. “This is so cool,” you mumbled, ignoring your boyfriend’s previous question. “Thanks for bringing me here.”
He tched. “Of course, dummy.” Bakugou squeezed your hand a final time before sitting up, stretching. “Come on, let’s head back before you fall asleep. It’s been a long day.”
Once you were at your campsite again, you pulled out the bedding and your pajamas. Bakugou doused the smoldering remains of your fire before helping you spread out the sleeping bags and blankets inside the tent, your actions lit only by a single lantern.
Settling in, Bakugou shut off the light, plunging everything around you into a thick darkness. You heard him turn over, and you realized with a hint of frustration that he was facing away from you. You knew your boyfriend wasn’t always interested in cuddling, and you respected that. He wanted his space from time to time, that was all. But did it have to be now? Tonight?
You internally grumbled to yourself, regretting not shoving your sleeping bag even closer to his. Your mind began to wander, but you quickly took notice that you weren’t as sleepy as you should be. Pouting to yourself at your horrendous luck, you turned over, frowning at the feeling of hard earth under your shoulder and hip. You’d literally spent the past several hours physically exerting yourself. The least your body could do for you was allow itself to get the sleep and rest it ached for. But your head was too noisy, the ground too hard, and it was slowly sinking in how cold the woods got at night.
You couldn’t take it anymore. Cringing at the loud shuffling sounds of your sleeping bag, you shimmied your way over to your boyfriend. To your dismay, you could tell by his breaths that he was already some level of asleep. Stealthily, you tried pressing your chest into his back. Already, warmth began to seep into your skin, and you finally sighed in contentment, draping your arm over his side.
And then his breathing changed. Man, he was too easy to wake up.
You heard him chuckle, low and breathy from his still-sleepy state. “You really can’t last long without me, huh?” he said, face invisible to you, still turned away in the dark. “What was that?” he went on. “Five seconds and you already want me again?”
You scowled at the vague outline of his hair, catching onto what he was getting at. “That was so not five seconds!” you protested. “You fell asleep! And besides, it’s cold out here.” Even though he couldn’t see you, you knew he’d be able to hear the pout in your voice.
Still chuckling to himself, he rolled over to face you. “Come ‘ere, Teddy Bear, you know I’m just messin’ with you.”
Your pout remained present on your face, but even so, you found yourself snuggling into his warm chest. It was infinitely softer than where you’d previously been laying, and the way his arms snaked around your body heated you like nothing else.
“How’s this, babe?” His hand smoothed over your back, pulling at your blankets so you could effectively be cocooned against him.
“Perfect,” you whispered, finally relaxing your face and letting your smile creep across your lips. Settling in, you gripped the soft fabric of his shirt between your fingers.
He pressed a kiss to the top of your head, inhaling the scent of your hair. “Was this a nice trip?” he asked, abandoning his initial teasing tone for a more vulnerable one.
“Yes,” you answered, and of course it was the truth. “Thanks for showing me the stars.”
“Knew you’d like them,” he snorted, playing with a strand of your hair.
“The world’s so big,” you quietly mused to yourself, lids finally growing heavy. “The sun. The earth. The moon. And all the stars. But you’re my everything, Katsuki.”
His breath suddenly caught in his throat, causing him to freeze for a moment before he looked down again at your dark form snuggled into his chest.
“My universe,” you mumbled, finally drifting off in his arms.
How could you know that he felt the same? How could he express what you did to him every time you laughed? How he wanted to be there for it all? How he wanted to hold you when you were sad and lift you up when you were happy? How could he say that you meant more to him than you’d ever know, that he’d move mountains just for you if he thought for a second that it would make you smile? How could you know that you were his universe too?
“Of course I am,” he muttered to your sleeping self, pressing a final kiss to your forehead. “Always will be.” And with that, his consciousness joined you among darkness and stars.

Long Nights - part 1
Neil x Reader
Chapter 1: Don’t kill my vibe
summary: all days blend into one, and as your friend brings back an unusual challenge, you are more than happy to accept it
warnings: 18+, explicit language, some violence, blood mention
author’s note: Woot woot, new series hype!
This setting has been brewing inside me for months now, and what started as an idea for a one-shot, turned out to be a fully fleshed out series (f!Reader again, for more gender neutral one check out StuckInReverse series!). And a good chance to introduce this brand new dynamic. Aaaand to play with some rogue tropes - because guess who's gonna teach Neil all he knows about locks and how to pick them? (canon what canon or at least let’s forget the implications for a moment and let's enjoy all the HAND CONTENT instead)
I’m really excited to share this story with you all!
The song for this chapter is Sigrid - Don’t Kill My Vibe
Anyway, enjoy! All feedback is greatly appreciated, let me know what you think?

----
You absent-mindedly swirled your coffee and ice cubes clinked against the tall glass as you watched a gutsy pigeon searching for crumbs under a table right next to yours. The green and purple feathers on its collar were shining in the morning sun, not as merciless as it was about to get in just a few hours, but still heating the crowded plaza to barely acceptable levels.
“I don’t know, man, all days blend into one, maybe it’s time to skip town again.”
Mahir leaned back on his chair, his glance sliding through the swarm of tourists pouring from the alley nearby.
“No new gigs?”
You mirrored his pose and shrugged.
“Some, but they just lack… pizzaz.”
“Pizzaz?”
“Yes,” - you sighed and gestured vaguely - “that certain oomph, that sparkle, excitement, when your heart starts beating faster at the sole thought--”
“You sure you’re not looking for...would say love but I know you too well, so... a good shag?” your companion chimed in with a sardonic smile plastered on his face.
You scoffed, amused by that insinuation.
“First of all - thank you,” you started, your eyes lighting up and your grin getting wider with every word. “Second - that thrill is better than a good shag, and after a job well done, you can ride that high much longer than even the best orgasm.”
“Forget I said anything--”
“And finally,” - you continued, ignoring his distressed groan - “you skip all the awkwardness of the morning after.”
Mahir raised his hands in defeat, and even though he looked as if he took a mental note to never tease you like that again, you were sure he knew exactly what you meant. After all, he was your favorite partner in crime, and even though he’d come clean (...or at least slightly cleaner) a few years ago, you still could count on him whenever you needed to pull off a spectacular and/or a straight-up batshit crazy stunt.
“How’s Paddsy?”
“Grand, as far as I know, but haven’t heard from him in years, why?” you asked, tilting your head.
Your friend looked at you with impish sparks in his eyes.
“I remember how you kept yourself amused during your teenage years.”
“The challenges?” You raised your brow and laughed at the memory. “Ha, petty theft is one way to fight a dullness of existence, all right.”
“I bet you’ve gotten sloppier with age.”
That taunt in his overly casual tone was clear as day. Were you really that bored, though?
“Please, I could do it right here and now without any prep.”
...yes.
He sent you a smug smile and started browsing the crowd for a possible target. “Okay, what about... that guy over there?”
You followed his gaze and your eyes laid on a pair of men, lost in a conversation, keeping to the peripheries of tourist groups as they walked through the square. One of them was gesturing with enthusiasm, a wide smile brightening his tanned face, the blond hair in complete disarray combined with a slightly unbuttoned white linen shirt with rolled-up sleeves and beige trousers completed a disheveled look. Couldn’t be older than thirty. He was accompanied by a more composed middle-aged Black man, a maroon polo shirt and grey suit pants complimented his fit and refined posture.
“The yellow mane or the polo shirt?” you asked and Mahir snorted in response.
“The polo one.”
You looked the stranger up and down as you assessed the case. Even from afar, you could see an outline of a wallet in the pocket of his trousers, and the short sleeves meant easy access to the watch.
You smacked your lips and pouted. “Too easy.”
“Okay, so both of them,” he said, watching with satisfaction as you perked up at the suggestion.
“Now we’re talking!” you laughed, clapping your hands. You pointed at Mahir’s camera sitting on the table, internally blessing his choice of hobbies. “Mind if I borrow this for a moment?”
“Sure, whatever.”
You bounced at your feet and grabbed the camera and its case, securing both straps on your shoulder. A sudden rush mixed with a familiar coldness as you got your head in the game.
“Be right back.”
Circling the crowd, you positioned yourself on the path of your targets, blending in with the crowd. Right then, nobody would tell you from other slaphappy sightseers, mesmerized by the architecture of the Old Town district. Stopping abruptly every few steps to take yet another photo. Too preoccupied to pay attention to your surroundings. Making it way too easy to bump into someone, you know? Or, if you were clumsy enough, two people one after another, in a little live-action pinball moment.
You raised the camera and stepped back right into the polo guy, yelping at the impact.
“Sorry!” you squealed, jumping out of his way. Straight into the blonde man. “Oh gee, I’m terribly sorry!”
“You all right?” he asked as he caught you, placing hands on your arms for a split-second hold, enough to prevent you from bouncing back and bumping into someone else.
You turned around and met the bright blue eyes studying you curiously.
“Yep,” you mumbled through sheepish laughter. “And you?”
He beamed, raking his unruly hair with his fingers.
“Yeah.”
Your gaze flitted back to his companion, who was looking at you two with polite interest, visibly eager to continue his stroll.
“Sorry again! Have a lovely day, gents!” you chirped, sending one more apologetic smile and squeezing between them to walk away in the opposite direction.
Ten steps later you twirled around. Aiming the camera at a statue nearby, you checked on the men with the corner of your eye. The blonde guy glanced over his shoulder for a moment, but he didn’t seem suspicious. Good.
You made your way back to the cafe and fell back on your chair.
“No sweat,” you said and smirked, handing the camera back to Mahir and placing the case on the table. You turned it around so he could see what was inside - two watches, some mileage card you pulled out of the polo guy’s wallet, and something you grabbed from the other one… an Oyster card for public transport in London? What a combo. And of course, you could have picked the entire wallets instead, but what would be the fun in that? You didn’t have to make their life that much harder, after all, you just wanted to prove a point.
Mahir peeked inside and smacked his tongue.
“Okay, you still got it.”
“Damn straight!” You reached for your abandoned coffee and emptied it in one swig. “But I’d better get going.”
“Wait, what about the loot?”
“Keep it,” - you shrugged, leaning in to place a small kiss on the bearded cheek - “and tip that nice waitress well, will ya?”
“Sure,” sighed Mahir and patted your hand on his shoulder. “Be careful out there, mate.”
“Always.”
You stepped out on the sunny square again. There was nothing particularly interesting on the agenda for the day, so you decided to take a longer and more scenic route to your apartment. You put on the headphones and with your usual playlist on shuffle, you maneuvered between groups of people on your way to one of the alleys. And just as you were about to cross the road, someone blocked your path. You glanced up and it took all your self-control to maintain a neutral expression, despite all the warning sirens blaring at the full volume inside your head. How even--
“Darling! Long time no see!” said the blonde man you’d just robbed gleefully and grinned, his arms spread wide as if you’d known each other for years. Without dropping a jovial face, he leaned in and gave you a chaste hug, using the opportunity to utter straight into your ear. “Don’t make a fuss and come with me.”
Bloody fantastic.
The stranger linked your arms together and started walking down the street, pulling you with him in a little too rushed version of a friendly stroll. It wasn’t your first rodeo, though.
“Where are you taking me?” you squealed, faking badly covered distress and scouting the area in search of his partner, but the polo guy was nowhere to be seen.
“Oh, we need to have a little chat,” he said nonchalantly, securing a grip on you with another hand on your arm. “And the streets today are awfully loud, don’t you think?”
He dragged you into a back alley, losing the chummy demeanor with every step further away from the crowds. Lucky for you, the new setting worked in your favor. You’d been indulging him long enough, anyway.
Shifting your balance, you stomped hard on his foot, using the element of surprise to break free. Grabbing the blonde strands, you pulled his head down to meet your flying knee. A muffled groan escaped the stranger’s mouth and his curses followed you when you dashed to a small back street to your right. These few seconds of a head start were more than enough though, especially since you knew the area like the back of your hand. And that’s why you didn’t hesitate when you reached a chain-link fence. You jumped and bounced off the wall, pulling up on the edge and vaulting through the obstacle with ease, then gracefully landed on the other side and turned around just to see the man hitting the fence with frustration. He glared at you, wiping the blood from his face, and you almost felt sorry for him. Almost.
“See ya!” you giggled and blew him a kiss, disappearing into another alley.
You emerged on the main street at a reasonable distance from the place you’d left the stranger, weaving between people on the busy pavement, making sure nobody followed you. After a few blocks, you grew quite certain that you’d lost the unwanted tail. You smiled to yourself. The day turned out to be way more exciting than you could have expected. And it wasn’t even noon yet.
You noticed a dark grey SUV pulling over next to you, but by the time you realized what was going on, it was already too late. The next thing you knew, you got dragged into the backseat and trapped between the blonde man and the polo guy. Shit.
You glanced at the driver, searching for clues about what you’d gotten yourself into. The woman behind a wheel gave off a paramilitary vibe, but you couldn’t be sure. Anyway, there was no point in trying to escape - you needed to wait for a more suitable moment. You didn’t have too much room to squirm around, so you just fixed your gaze on the road ahead.
“Well, this is awkward,” you said, breaking the silence as the car started moving again.
“As my colleague said - we need to talk.”
You looked to your right at the polo man. “Abduction is such an underrated conversation starter.”
“So is theft,” he noted, a shade of smile tainting the corner of his mouth. “I really liked that watch.”
“I have no idea--”
“We’ve checked the square’s surveillance system,” he interrupted you, but his statement was so ridiculous you just had to laugh it off.
“Now you’re insulting me.”
He raised a brow as he studied you with satisfaction. “You’d rather admit that you’re guilty?”
“No,” - you bridled, slowly getting tired of the whole charade - “but there’s no way you got to the feed so fast, and with how crowded it was out there, there is no way you’d find anything incriminating in there.” You hesitated for a moment, then narrowed your eyes. “Speaking of-- how did you even find me?”
A sudden movement to your left made you switch focus to the quiet blonde man. Still pressing a bunch of bloodied tissues to his face, he showed you his phone - a red dot was blinking steadily in the middle of a screen.
...tracking? You opened your mouth to ask a follow-up question, but then it hit you and your eyes flared up. That hug.
“Sneaky. I like it.” You grinned and nodded at him. “How’s your nose?”
He lowered his hand with the tissues. It was bruised and swollen, but you couldn’t tell if you’d managed to break it or not. Still - ouch.
“Never better,” he said and grimaced slightly.
“You should put some ice on it.”
He scoffed and rolled his eyes.
“You don’t say.”
Biting your lip to stifle a giggle, you glanced back to your right. “So? What do you wanna talk about?”
The other man shook his head.
“Not in the car. We’re almost there.”
You looked out of the window to find out you were driving into an industrial zone, and not the nice part of it. You didn’t mind, though - abandoned and creepy factory buildings were your jam, and they made excellent locations if you ever needed a chance to escape.
After a few minutes, you reached your destination. You got out of the car parked near the entrance to an empty hall. The sunbeams were pouring inside through the broken windows near the ceiling, lighting up a small metal table and a pair of chairs.
“Kudos for prepping such a dramatic setting, gents,” you laughed, taking a seat at the table. The polo man sighed and sat in front of you, sliding a folder with documents your way. You peeked inside, only to confirm your suspicions. They got some serious dirt on you, all right.
“Let’s start again, properly this time. This is Neil,” - he said, pointing at his companion, who was standing nearby, leaning against a pillar - “and I’m The Protagonist.”
You gaped at him and slumped your shoulders. “The Protag--...you’re shitting me,” you huffed, but the man was staring at you indifferently. “Dude, your parents must hate you,” you snorted, not even trying to keep a straight face. “What’s wrong with-- ...I don’t know, David? Or some of the classics, like John?”
“That’s how everyone here addresses me, and I’d like you to do the same.”
“Do I have to?” you groaned as you looked at Neil. He simply nodded, so you had no other option but to roll with it. For now. “Ugh, fine,” you said, shrugging. “You guys are spies or something?”
“Or something,” said The Protagonist. “We use certain espionage techniques to our advantage.”
“Sure,” - you scoffed - “next thing you’re gonna tell me is that you need my help to save the world.”
Neil’s amused snort made you glance at him again. “Well, maybe indirectly.” Playful sparks lit up his eyes as he gave you a half-smile.
Are they for real? If that was an elaborate prank, this would be a good gotcha moment, but the men seemed serious enough.
You shifted on your seat, laughing nervously.
“Sorry to disappoint, but you’ve got the wrong gal.”
The Protagonist pointed at the folder in front of you.
“We need someone with your skills.”
...right. “Such as?”
“Lockpicking.”
You arched a brow. “Why? You need me to crack something for you?”
“No.” The Protagonist shook his head and took a deep breath. “We need you to teach our agents how to do it.”
“Hard pass,” you said, crossing your arms. “I’m not a tutor material.”
All of a sudden, a familiar voice rang behind you.
“Show her the lock.”
And then you connected all the dots.
“Mahir, you asshole!” you fumed, glaring at your friend as he joined you by the table. “Sloppier with age, I swear, you’re the main reason I have trust issues!”
“Main?” - he sent you a skeptical look - “What about--”
“Okay, you’re in top three, but mind you, today’s stunt alone got you five places up the table.”
“Oh no, I’m gonna cry myself to sleep tonight,” he mocked in his usual deadpan manner.
You huffed - “You better,” - mentally kicking yourself for falling for his ruse so easily. Maybe he was right. Maybe you’d lost your edge. That’s what you got for staying in one place for too long. You blinked rapidly, getting out of your head to focus on an item The Protagonist placed on the table. A small metal lock, pretty basic. No security pins, but you knew this model was made with sloppy tolerances that could give any beginner a headache.
“What’s so special about it?”
“Give it a try,” said The Protagonist and waved his hand in encouragement.
You reached to the pocket of your pants for a compact set of lockpicking tools you always had on you. Nothing fancy, rather a handy emergency set than anything serious - those were safely stored in your apartment, ready for the real work. Unlike the one you were about to do. Or so you thought.
You placed a tiny wrench at the bottom of a keyway and applied a minimal amount of tension, trying to set the first pin inside using a short hook. Trying and failing. The feedback from the tools was bizarre, like the regular laws of physics no longer applied to the lock’s mechanism.
“What in the fresh hell--” you uttered through gritted teeth, pulling out the tools to examine the peculiar lock.
Mahir smirked. “Enough pizzaz?”
“Shut up, I’m still mad at you,” you waved at him dismissively and focused back on The Protagonist, who was watching your attempts with polite interest. And a hint of a satisfied smile. “Where did you get that?”
“I’m afraid I can’t tell you,” he replied, leaning back on the chair. “At least for now, that is if you’d like to reconsider our proposal.”
You nibbled on your bottom lip, drumming the fingers on the table. Mahir, you bastard. Of course he knew you wouldn’t be able to resist an offer like this. Even if that meant a certain commitment, and that wasn’t something you were particularly fond of.
“Fine,” you sighed. “But I’m gonna teach only one person.”
“Deal.”
As you shook on it, Neil left his spot by the pillar.
“That will be me.”
You nodded in agreement and asked, “What about the lock?”
“Keep it,” said The Protagonist, standing up. As if he’d share the secrets straight away. “I want to hear your thoughts on it the next time we see each other.”
“And when is that gonna be?”
He just smiled enigmatically. “Soon. Mahir - a word?”
“Is he always like that?” you asked Neil as you got up, watching the others making their way towards the exit, but he just shrugged in return.
“He’s a busy man.”
You eyed your soon-to-be student curiously, and he responded in such, although suddenly losing some of the confidence he’d had before. Even with the bruised face, he radiated with this natural charm, a soft smile and the blonde strands falling into the bright blue eyes only adding to the overall appeal.
“Sorry about the nose.”
“Thanks,” - he smirked - “can’t blame you for that though, right?”
Grinning, you extended your hand in an informal truce offering.
“No hard feelings then?”
“Not at all,” he said as your palms clapped together and you smacked each other’s arms playfully.
With any leftover tension gone, all you had to do was to discuss the schedule and a few other crucial details. Neil took some notes and promised to get everything ready over the next few days. He even offered to drive you home, but you politely turned him down. A long walk, even slightly longer than previously anticipated, seemed more tempting.
Your fingers brushed against the weird lock in your pocket and you smiled to yourself.
For the first time in months, your heart started beating a little bit faster.

Daisy - Draco Malfoy
Summary: You have a secret admirer who gifts you your favorite flower, after three times he reveals himself but it doesn’t go as planned.
Warnings: None
Laughter filled your body as you listened to Ron go on and on about how Hermione will never feel the same as he did. “What are you all talking about?” The beautiful Gryffindor nudged your shoulder making you giggle as the boys instantly shutting their mouths to scared to get caught. Rolling your eyes at Harry’s widen eyes and Ron’s shuttering you replied.
“We were talking about how Ron absolutely sucks at potions and he is too intimate to ask you for help.” Ron gave you a look but Hermione tilted her head. “You know how boys get. Their egos are fragile.”
“Hey.” The red head threw a crumb at you while Harry laughed along with Hermione.
“I’ll help you Ron.” Seeing the blush appeared on his pale face you picked up your cup to shield the smirk that was to evident if you didn’t try to hide it.
“Pssh, if you think Granger can help you, you’re crazy Weasley.” Hearing that familiar voice that caused chills to run down your spine. You quickly brushed off the feeling as Ron spoke.
“Ah, shut it Malfoy.” You set your cup down then reached for your fork and rested it in your hands.
“Please, Draco can we have one day without you terrorizing us?” The blonde looked at you and his stature stiffened. Luckily, no one noticed it and he was able to concentrate on the real reason he was here.
“Honestly, Y/n.” He leaned down placing his arms on the either side you, making your heart race but you kept a straight face. “I don’t know why you hangout with these mugbloods.” And just like that you rolled your eyes and turned to him making it so your lips were only inches apart.
“Because they’re my friends Draco. You should try to get some other than your minions.” Sucking in a breath as his eyes trailed down your face towards your lips. “That’s not a friendship.”
“Hmm.” The two of you stayed in that position until the boys spoke up.
“Back off Malfoy.”
“Yeah just leave her be.”
Clearing your throat, Draco leaned back and stuffed his hands in the pockets of his robe. “When you’re ready to be around your on kind you know where to find me.” You rolled your eyes again then turned back, not facing the boy then dropped your fork to pick up your cup to take a sip from it.
“Not in a million years, Draco.” The golden trio plus others that couldn’t help but listen in snickered at the platinum blonde. The pure blood only rolled his eyes and turned away but not before sparing you one more glance.
Harry and Ron carefully watched the Slytherin walked off to sit with the members of his house. “Good, he’s annoying.” The Weasley snipped before taking a bite of his food.
Letting out a sigh, you put down your cup and went to grab your fork but when you did something else was in its place. A white daisy. “What in the-”
“Y/n, did you do that?” Picking up the delicate flower you turned to Hermione and shook your head in confusion.
“No, I...” you paused to inspect the beauty, quite literally in shock. “I didn’t do it.”
Harry squinted his eyes at the flower. “Maybe you did it on accident.”
Ron nodded in agreement. “Or someone could’ve cursed your fork?” This caused all of you to turn to Ron in disbelief. “What?”
“I don’t think someone would curse my fork to turn into something like a flower.” Hermione grabbed onto your arm and let a smile cover her beautiful features.
“Maybe someone did it because they have a crush?”
Your eyebrows rose and eyes widen at this. “I don’t think so Hermione.” Feeling her hands slip off your arms you brought the flower closer towards your face and smile at it. “But I have to say I do enjoy the sweet surprise.”
-
The crowds roaring echoed in your ear lighting up the fire inside as you yelled with them. Hermione and you were jumping up and down from the Gryffindor team scoring a point tying with Slytherin. “Merlin, we need to win this.” Hermione nodded in agreement clenching her hat onto her curly long locks. “Go, boys!” Surprisingly enough, it seemed as though Draco somehow heard you through all the ruckus and y’all locked eyes for a brief moment. He was the first to look away and knock a Gryffindor off his broom. Smirking towards yourself you hated that you found it hot.
“What was that?” Hermione’s question startled you a bit causing you to grab at your chest in shock.
You pushed back some of your hair as you kept your eyes onto the match, not daring to look the girl in the eye. Because you knew that if she did, the girl would know your secret. “What are you talking about?” Gryffindor blocked a goal causing you to scream but Hermione crossed her arms over her chest giving you her signature look.
“Oh don’t give me that?” You sighed making a cloud surround your face because it was so cold. “You like him. You like Malfoy-” insanely you turned around and covered her mouth with your hand.
“Don’t.” Your voice came out very squinky making you wince. “Please Hermione, not right now.” The brunette squeezed your biceps in comfort and when you let go of her mouth a smile had taken over.
“Okay, but later-Y/N!” Hermione pulled you toward her as a golden snitch came flying your way. You lifted your arms up to cover your face and flinched expecting to feel pain but it never came. Instead you felt the slightest touch. Slowly you moved your hands away from your face and looked down to see a daisy. Hermione bent down and picked it up to hand it to you. “Someone just saved your live with a daisy.”
Your breath got caught in your throat as you reached out to grasp the flower. Looking at the beauty, it looked the same as the one that appeared in the dinning hall. “I guess I’m lucky.”
After that, Slytherin had won the match, with Draco scoring the winning point for his team. Of course you were upset that your house had lost but seeing Draco’s smile made it a little better.
Walking down the main hall, you took off your hat and ran your fingers through your hair still holding onto the white daisy. “Y/n.” Surprised to hear the voice you turned around quickly to look over at the platinum blonde.
“Draco? What are you doing?” His hair was pressed to his forehead from the sweat and his cheeks were flushed from all the adrenaline pumping through his veins. Surprisingly, he smelt amazing despite having sweat all over.
“I-I was wondering if you were okay.” A sweet smile danced its way onto your face as Malfoy neared.
You took a step forward making it so you were only a few distances away. “Well,” you said as you twirled the daisy in between your thumb and pointer finger. “I didn’t get knocked out by a snitch sooo I think I’m doing okay.” Draco laughed at this and stepped a little closer.
“Well that’s a good thing.”
You grinned at him before replying. “Was the great Draco Malfoy worried about little old me?” The boy dragged his tongue across the inside of his cheek to the bottom of his lower jawed under his bottom lip. His eyes never left yours making you giggle. You reached forward with the hand that held the daisy, you grabbed the collar of his green rob and pulled him until his body was touching yours. “It’s a good look on you Malfoy.” And just like that all the confidence the Slytherin had was gone. You seeing how flushed the boy was, laughed in response and pulled away from him. “Have a nice night Malfoy.”
Cursing at himself for being so weak, Draco smiled at you one last time before you turned around to turn in for the night. “You too.”
-
Frustrations ran high as you stared at the piece of paper going over every ingredient, every little detail trying to get this potion right but for some reason it just wasn’t working. “Fuck me.” You groaned tugging on your roots.
“Is that an invitation?”
“Merlin.” You gasped turning around in shock. The moon shined through the window causing some light into the library but the fire did most of the work. You really didn’t expect for anyone to be in the library this late but here you were. “Draco? What are you doing here?” His slider body made his way over to where you were sitting and pressed his hands against the table.
“I was terrorizing 2nd year mugbloods and I lost them. Then I saw the light in the library and got curious.” You rolled your eyes then rested your chin into your hand.
“You know curiosity killed the cat right?” Now it was Dracos time to roll his eyes as he pulled out the wooden chair to sit across from you.
“Now it’s your turn.” You both had a mini stare off as you finally let out a sigh in defeat. You reluctantly turned the book around and showed it to the Slytherin.
”I cant figure out this spell and Snape has been giving me hell.” Draco’s eyes watched as you palmed your face in distress and his heart became heavy. “I’ve read everything at least seven times and I keep messing it up. And if I don’t get it right in class Snape will quite literally have my head.”
Chuckles filled the room as Draco grabbed onto the page. “We can’t have that can we?” Reading over the potion Dragon Dung Fertilizer. You watched carefully as his eyes gazed over the ingredients and looked at the materials. “Okay put it together like you have been because I think I know what you’ve been doing wrong.” You gave him a look but he just laughed. “I did the same thing too.”
“Whatever.” You laughed out then started to put all the ingredients together then at the last step toasted dragonfly thoraxes you grabbed your wand and lightly burned them. Before you could even put them in the bowl, Draco clicked his tongue against his teeth. “What?”
“I know it says toasted but you basically have to fry them.” You gave Draco a look but he rested his hand onto his chin. “Just trust me.” Giving the boy one last look you enknighted the spell that caused fire to spew from your wand and you burned the thoraxes to a crisp. Gently you set the ingredients all together and mixed them perfectly. Once everything seemed set you picked up the dead plant that came from Harry’s and Ron’s room and applied the fertilizer to the soil. At first nothing happened but then the golden potho came alive and grew a foot long in leaves.
“Draco!” You squealed out, dashing from your seat to grab him into a hug. Draco was stund but quickly adapted placing his arms over yours. “Thank you.” You mumbled a thanks into his chest giving the boy butterflies.
“Yeah no problem.” You pulled away first to look over at the plant and that’s when Dacro noticed the daisies in your book of spells. You were trying to see who was sending them. “I have to go it’s late.”
“You’re right.” You nodded while tidying up. “I’ll see you tomorrow Draco. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight, Y/n.” You listened to his footsteps until they disappeared then as you lifted up the pothos plant that’s when you saw it. A daisy.
-
“Oh it’s so Draco.” You let out a scoff as you pulled up your skirt then turned to your dorm mate. “I don’t know why you deny it so.”
“I’m denying it, Mione.” You looked back towards your mirror to brush your hair. “I’m denying it because I don’t want to get my hopes up.” Granger jumped up from her bed and walked behind you to comb your hair for you.
“So you like him.” Sharing eye contact through the reflection you nodded shamefully.
“Since second year. I know he’s mean to you and the others and I shouldn’t; but I see through all that. He’s going through pain and instead of standing up to his dad he takes it out of others.” Hermione gave you a soft smile, finishing up your hair.
“And that’s why we love you Y/n. It’s because you care for others who really don’t deserve it.” Shrugging your shoulders you turned to face the beauty. “But if you like him, Ron and Harry will get over it.” Her comment made you scoff. “It might take a while but they will.”
You stayed quiet but decided to shake the comment off. “I have to get to class.” Not giving Hermione a chance to start the conversation back up you threw on your robe and grabbed your wand, and books for class plus paper and a quill. “We’ll talk later. Promise.” You raced out the door not really looking at to where you were going. Once you turned a corner your body seemed to crash into something. “Bloody hell.”
“I’m sorry.” Looking up you were surprised to see the infamous Draco Malfoy.
“What-what are you doing on the girls dormitory floor?” You both bent down to pick up your stuff but once Draco handed you your book he grabbed your quill. He was the first to stand back up then lended a hand to help you up. Without hesitation you took it, and he helped you onto your feet. “Thanks, it’s seem quite the morning.” Draco let out a laugh and watched as your eyes landed onto your quill. Nervously, the platinum blonde grabbed his wand and pointed at the pen and whispered a spell.
Tears formed in your eyes as you saw the pink daisy. “Are you trying to joke with me Draco because it’s not funny.” Instantly the boy gapped and began to stutter making you push at his chest. “You saw the daisies or either heard about it from someone and thought that you could turn my pen into one pretending to be someone who might actually like me?” You pushed him again but Draco tried to grab your wrist but it didn’t work. “That’s low even for you Malfoy.” Quickly, you turned on your heel to flee from the boy but he grabbed your wrist.
“It was first year and you were talking with Hermione about how daisies were your favorite because that’s what your father gave your mother.” Hearing his words caused your heart to swell in your chest, and your eyes widen as you looked into his. “So I wanted you to know how I felt by giving you white daisies like your father.” He lifted the pink daisy and sighed. “I did it in secret because you make me nervous and I knew I would mess up.” You continued to stay quiet as you watched Draco put the flower behind his back and not even a second later he revealed a new set of a dozen white daisies. You smiled sweetly as you grasped them into your hands. “I like you Y/n Y/l/n.” A blush formed on both of your cheeks. “And I was wondering if you would company me on a date?”
You inched closer to the boy and stood on your tippy toes to press a kiss on his cheek. “I’m free tonight at 7.” Collecting yourself you moved past the boy to start walking down the hall. “And Malfoy don’t be late.”

Mathew Murdock x Reader
Sum: Movies, books, TV and more have brainwashed the world into thinking your soulmate is one romantic comedy away. But life is never that easy, nor is that cheesy.
AN: I've had this in the back of my mind for awhile. Full disclosure; I'm not good at emotions and I try my best not to make the reader out to be an overly emotional caricature. Spoiler alert, I have failed at both.
“A blowup bed is not that hard to set up, just stay with me instead of waiting for the right place.” Karen had said when you mentioned the impending move to the city. “In fact, you need a job? A very underpaid job?”
The red strand of fate came along during your move. It sometimes tangled while packing, it bended and dipped during the trip, and tightened when reaching Karen’s place. That was how Fate’s strand works; it bounces and moves as you and your soulmate does. It will sway and bounce with your gestures and hand. Although weightless it can be a physical thing to touch and grab, but it takes focus. With enough focus you and Fate can play a game of jump rope; swinging it around with your soulmate on the other side as the anchor. Jumping over the strand like a schoolgirl was Fate themselves. Having a great time watching their chosen couple use the bond to both find eachother and have fun.
Jump rope was played through most of your journey: toying with it on the bus and fiddling while filling out paperwork. It was twirling around your fingers as Karen gave advice for your first day at Nelson and Murdock. “Just bring something food related and they’re gonna love you. Something hearty though, we get enough pastries.” She said then heading out, reminding you to show up around seven.
Just like your nose it’s easy to forget that the strand is there. Just another color that makes up the world all around. It’s only when you reach the building that you notice your strand flat as a table, leading you right into the building.
It’s nothing new for the strand to lead straight ahead. Younger people and children will commonly ignore whatever they were doing before and follow their strand right into the unknown. “Maladaptive following” is the technical for these moments of distraction. Adults will even fall victim to it from time to time: Stopping a business lunch or jog to follow their red strand into the street or some building. Articles and urban legends float about the world stating that many have met their chosen this way. In reality it’s one of the leading causes of death by vehicle for minors.
Now it’s a question whether you were following your strand, or if it just happens to be going in the same direction you were originally headed. Fate was holding your strand so tight it was flat, bouncing as your hands stabilized the box but stayed tight as Fate pulled you forward.
Fate drags your strand into the highest, smallest gap of the elevator’s door. Lifting your head to watch it slide through was giving it too much hope but watching it with eyes was mature enough to acknowledge it without going crazy. Yet as the elevator reached it’s floor, and the strand led straight out, your heart couldn’t help but speed up.
In fiction the sight of your soulmate is portrayed so romantic. There was a few seconds of staring at the shared strand, then at eachother which leads into eye-contact and then a funny/cheesy/romantic line; “I’ve waited so long,” “more beautiful than I could have ever imagined,” or even just “hi,” followed by breathy laughing. They all ended in the two taking a few steps right into each other’s arms.
Your personal situation started off like this. Following the strand across the room and to the man who was your chosen. Following further until the strand was wrapped in a bow on his pinky, on the same hand which held a white cane.
Karen is talking somewhere in the background of your focus. She reaches out towards you in a gesture that is followed by the blonde man stepping up to you with a closed mouth smile. It’s only when he gets to his own name that your ears start to work again.
“-Everyone calls me Foggy, though. It’s good to have join up.”
With the world moving once more the sandwiches almost topple from your hands. Both from trying to get a handout for a proper shake and from realizing no words had come out when you entered.
“Yeah, it’s…hi. I brought lunch, or dinner, or…yeah, they’re just sandwiches.” Were the only comprehensible words that could come out. No matter how hard you tried keep looking at the man in front of you, your eyes kept glancing to the end of your strand.
As the box is taken by Mr. Foggy the second man second, the man at the end of your strand, steps up. Although his face is staring right at you it almost impossible to see his eyes through the glasses. What lines you do see through the glass are likely imaginary; your brain trying to come up with someway that you are special enough to see through his shields.
“Hi, Mathew Murdock,” He says, unfortunately professional.
You shake his hand as well, just as professional but with wondering eyes. Starting at the brown hair with tinges of red in the right light, to the glasses over his eyes which keep you from seeing their color. From his suit without a tie to his hand that held yours in a shake. Where two bows sit side by side, the closest they have ever been.
Fate came along with you at Nelson and Murdock. Instead of being a fellow employee trying their best they just hang around and grinned at you. Sitting on the edge of your desk, playing with the window until Karen had to slam it shut. Blaming it on the faulty building rather than the smirking being that was standing in the middle of the office. Using barely a finger to keep the red strand from touching the floor. Staring you in the eye as they rub your strand between it’s fingers, teasing you with the truth that may not be believed by your chosen.
The entire day is spent as someone else. You were a lightweight as their first party, drinking too much and trying to hide it. Karen was patient as she explained everything but there was still the pressure in the back of your throat. Word vomit threatening to come out at the sight of red, of Mr. Murdock, or of stupid fucking Fate. The latter of which still pulling on the string. Both to keep it from touching the ground and to encourage their chosen couple to do something.
Staring at the abyss between your spot in the corner and Mr. Murdock’s designated office was hypnotizing. Your strand was lightly swinging with Mr. Murdock’s movements. Watching through peripheral vision his fingers drag along paper, reading through touch as he moves the strand without meaning to.
Karen was patient as you struggled to pay attention to the instructions she was giving you. It was too late to say anything about the strand to Mr. Murdock, and this office was way too small for any kind of personal conversation.
“Are you okay?” Karen’s voice is softer than a whisper against your ear. Already leaning over your shoulder, you didn’t flinch at her suddenly speaking. Instead looking over to your new boss and leaning back into Karen. “Sorry. Mr. Murdock and I…And I’ll tell you later.” You whisper, refocusing on the earthly reason you were here.
By the end of your practice there was still no reaction on the side of Mr. Murdock. Although both rude and in bad form a goodbye couldn’t come out while leaving. Instead just a wave towards Mr. Foggy and Mr. Murdock and leaving the door open behind you, Karen following quickly behind. Her heels clip-clapping through the hallway in time with your name called out once, twice…
“Son of a bitch, Karen, I messed up. I don’t know, and now I messed up.” It’s coming out faster than you meant to. With both frustration and almost
Word vomit was finally free to spew. Before the elevator even arrived you were telling Karen everything; about the strand, about the nerves and how you messed up so greatly by not saying anything. When the elevator finally arrived, Karen was guiding you forward. Knowing better than to try and talk anymore while still within Matt’s earshot.
When anyone asks Matt if he eavesdropped, he’d argue; “Of course not, I don’t exactly have a choice with this.” Which was only a half truth, in reality he was a nosy bitch. But it was all for the greater good; clients and their family say the most important things behind closed doors, cops lie and only tell the truth when they think the world isn’t listening, and he just wanted to make sure Karen didn’t get him something he already had.
So, it’s only natural that he listened along as you left.
It took years to try and isolate the noises around him. It was still a struggle to separate them when he first covered his face and climbed to the rooftop. It still hard sometimes, especially when he’s only half focusing, and especially when Karen’s heels can’t be turned off like a radio.
Buried under the heels was your voice. Coming out quickly with a heartbeat to match. “Our strands are connected, and I didn’t say anything and now I don’t know what to do and I can’t say anything now and…” Karen’s soft but sharp voice stops the storm of thoughts coming out. Keeping them at bay until the elevator joins the fray.
It takes longer than it should for Matt to connect the dots. Strands are connected, didn’t say anything…His hands have wondered off of the paperwork in the time it took. Running over the cracks and bits of worn wood from his desk. Dragging up the old crumbs and coffee cup papers that wedged into those gaps. Pulling the smells up and muddying the waters of his sense, hiding the conversation outside until it was impossible to find the women in the hallway.
Matt only had the strand for a short time before the accident. After that it was an overwhelming part of the world. A constant touch on his finger that distracted from something more important. Taking longer than normal people to get used to it, and only a short time after that to completely forget it’s there. It’s been a while since he’s even thought about it: only during selfish moments with a girlfriend. Trying to seek out the vibrations and slightest effect it would have on his chosen. After finding none he’d forget about the strand and move on.
Turning his wrist, he finds the strand once more. Closest he could compare the material to was silk, but it was too soft and slick for it to be that. Tugging on it brought tighter resistance than normal; his chosen’s weight keeping Matt from dragging you right back to him. The resistance getting weaker the more he toyed and the farther you got from him.
There was this urge that goes through everyone when they finally find their chosen. The urge to talk or know them. To hold them tight and find every and any reason that fate had chosen them for eachother. But this was another urge that Matt had to keep down, at least for now.
Yes, that’s what he’s best at, keeping things down. This would have to be different than his old relationships. No trauma bonding over kidnappings as the Devil or making the first move like the suave lawyer man he knew he was. This would be…natural, an organic relationship made by lying to eachother until one finally caves and tells all Just like a suave lawyer.

Jacin was everything to Winter. The blue in her veins, the space between her hollow bones, the warm color in both her irises.
But Jacin was also a dork.
Winter and Thorne both agreed on this.
And with two sandwiches and a bench in a glass hallway near the ship docks, they discussed it at length.
“Then he threatened to duel me! Dueling- ” Thorne had said, bug-eyed, one cheek filled with bread. “Do Lunars duel? Is that a custom?”
The princess giggled. “Public lashings were common”
He was silent for a moment as he swallowed the rest of his lunch. “Those still aren’t legal, right?”
“No, I don’t think Cinder would let it be. She might make an exception for you maybe.”
The brunet threw his head back and laughed. “Now you’re sassy? I can’t escape it since Cinder and Scarlet started rubbing off on Cress!”
“Perhaps I learned it from Jacin,” Winter added, taking a small bite from her zesty sandwich. “He had been sentenced to public lashing one time.”
Winter smiled at the memory, not because of the gore of seeing the love of her life tied and beaten, but the things he had said to her that night. The side of him that no one else was allowed to see (but everyone knew was there because he was not good at hiding it), a man that would do anything, anything for her.
“Huh. Wish I was there.” Thorne added.
In the comfortable silence, her eyes went to a grand, marble door nearby. If Jacin were here right now, he would be standing statuesque next to it. And since Thorne was here with her, he would probably be standing even closer. Winter would offer him food, and he would decline, Thorne would have something witty to say about it, and Jacin would make a threat of violence with a deadpan face.
“Where’s your loverboy, anyways?”
“He accompanied your Cress to a shell rehabilitation meeting. Do you want to eat the rest of this?”
“Pickles? No way. And what do you mean shell rehabilitation meeting ? She’s already in therapy,” Thorne added skeptically, brushing the crumbs off his lap and standing up.
“No, no. It’s for the friends that were rescued from the labs.”
Thorne nodded and made an ‘O’ shape with his lips. “To reintroduce them into normal society? Well, as normal as moon people can be, ” he added, muttering the last part.
Shells had very limited education (being a thaumaturge telling them an intimidating version of what reproduction was like, effectively scaring them away from it), but they had made their own versions of interaction before they were put in cryo-sleep.
The shells that couldn’t find their previous families, or families that wouldn’t take them back, were offered jobs in the Artemisian palace. Winter was very fond of all of them. They would say very strange things to the aristocrats, ask the most awkward questions at the most horrible times, but they were Winter’s people .
Despite effectively being a war hero, many still thought Winter was crazy, including her close friends. But apart from Jacin, the shells were the only ones in the palace who were too different for others to swallow, swimming in their heads too often. Like she was. They understood.
Many had dreams of moving the Earth, and maybe being normal on Earth meant losing your peculiarity.
But this couldn’t be true. Cress was raised in a drastically different way than the other shells, but she was still just as weird and wistful as them.
“The friends, they really admire her,” Winter said after a moment. “They told me that Sybil Mira had taken her away one day. They were very envious because they thought she was going to the palace to be freed, but Sybil told them that she was killed instead.”
Thorne nodded. “Yeah, I remember that at the banquet. Like, all of them were sobbing. Kind of touchy, too.”
“They don’t know much better, though,” Winter said, dusting her dress off and standing as well once her sandwich was finished.
“Hence the rehabilitation!” He said proudly, already at the door holding it open. “Let’s go supervise.”

Jacin had made a promise to Cress, a very long time ago. That promise was that her safety would come only second to Winter’s.
But sometimes he wondered, What was he willing to put up with for her?
He already dealt with shells and their lack of personal space and emotional boundaries at the palace, but here, there were about a hund of them all in this one conference room in South Artemisia.
Despite Jacin placing himself far away from the others and staying silent, that didn’t stop people from coming up to him and asking, asking, asking, asking-
“Why are your arms so big?” A pale, redheaded teenager asked.
“I exercise.”
“What pertains to exercise?”
“Pushups.”
“What’s a pushup?”
Jacin rolled his eyes to the sky. “Look it up. You have a portscreen, don’t you?”
The boy, Wane, scoffed. “Portscreens are so blue . I see enough blue on the faces of others.”
He fought another eye-roll, but only because the statement reminded him of something whimsical Winter might say. “I’m sure someone else can show you.”
Wane nodded nonchalantly, thanked him, and ambled away.
This queued Jacin to turn his attention to Cress, who was swiping through her portscreen, and being swarmed by a group of shell women. She looked a little flustered, but not overwhelmed by the attention.
He discreetly made his way over to the crowd and cut through so he was right behind Cress.
Ah.
He should have guessed by the squeals and giggles from the shell girls that Cress was showing them pictures of the Captain. One picture was him carrying an antidote crate, concentration etched in his eyes. Cress swiped through her photo gallery again, showing a picture of him fascinatingly watching a romantic net drama (one he claimed to hate, by the way).
“Ahem,” Jacin coughed.
The blonde turned around swiftly, as did the shells.
The shell girls hugged him immediately, all greeting him. He just about pushed them off in shock until Cress shot him a knowing yet weary smile reminding him that they don’t know much about personal space.
Wasn’t she supposed to be mentoring them on that instead of showing them pictures of her boyfriend? Jacin coughed again. “Hello, everyone. I need a word with the shortcake.”
“Hey!” A brunette yelped. “That’s mean. Crescent is short and lovely and not a cake! ”
“Ah, Callista. He’s not being mean. It’s lighthearted, a nickname.” Cress said, gently pulling her away from Jacin. By now the rest of the shells had gone somewhere else, off to another counselor to ask a thousand questions.
“No, Cress is a nickname because it is short for Crescent Moon. But shortcake has nothing to do with Crescent Moon.”
Cress sighed, “Okay, so-”
Jacin tuned it out, waiting for her to be done. Why did they ask her to explain these things when she could barely explain it herself?
It brought him to another time when a shell woman came up to Cress and kissed her on the mouth like they had been casually dating for years.
Thorne had jumped out of his chair, and when Cress was done being shocked, she stuttered, “Why did you do that?”
“Because I love you!” She exclaimed happily.
“You do not love her, you’ve known her for two days!” Thorne had interjected.
“Of course I love her. She is a hero to all our shell friends and saved us all!”
“I am a friend, then, but you don’t- you can’t kiss people! On the face like that!” Cress swallowed.
She had placed her fingers on her chin like she was deeply considering this. “Yes, yes. Interesting. Thank you for letting me know.”
Cress’ mildly sarcastic cough brought him back to the present. “What did you need?”
“I think it’s about time we go back to the palace.”
“Aww, why? I was having so much fun,” She whined.
“Having fun showing off Thorne?”
There was a comedic silence, before she said, “Yeah.”
Jacin rolled his eyes for maybe the hundredth time, but this time only in jest.
Cress feigned an offended gasp, and swatted at him lightly, standing up from her chair. “You would show off Winter too if put in the position!”
“She would show herself off.” He said, stopping by a door while Cress waved goodbye to the shells.
“Thorne probably would too,” She said, finally closing the door and cracking her fingers. “But I’m just getting the word out he’s mine.”
Jacin almost snorted at the sudden and unexpected possessiveness of her statement. “Sometimes I wonder if he forgets he’s yours.”
She thoughtfully shook her head. “No, it’s a lot like Winter. Kind of.”
Jacin raised his eyebrow.
“Well, like, Winter attracts people by existing, you know? She cant help it.”
That was very true. She could swish her hair once, and twirl in her dress twice maybe, and get just about anything she wanted. But still, “Thorne can definitely help it though.”
Their footsteps echoed off the grand hallway, chatter from the shell meeting all but gone. “Maybe. I don’t know.” There was a hint of doubt in her voice.
Jacin, out of fear he offended her, added, “Not that I think he’s unfaithful. He’s obsessed with you, really.”
“In a romantic way?”
Jacin nodded.
The flush that was on her face earlier came back. “W-well, Winter’s obsessed with you!”
He decided they were far away enough for anyone to hear, so he indulged himself in a laugh. “I know, I know.”

“Hello, Squire Clay!” Thorne bellowed as he strutted through the ship docks, Winter trailing behind, sandwich in hand.
Cress could hear Jacin’s eye roll (he was doing a lot of those today).
“Hey you,” Thorne greeted her, voice softer and looping an arm around her waist.
“Apologies I told him about your squireship status,” Winter hooked an arm around his neck and pecked his cheek.
“Does this mean you’re a knight now or something? What’s the surname for knights-” the Captain snapped his fingers, trying to call up the knowledge. “Your Holiness?”
“I think it’s just sire,” Cress said.
Thorne purred, “Medieval knowledge. Nice. How’d it go, sire?”
Jacin held up a hand. “Don’t do that,” he grumbled as Winter snorted. “It went fine. We left early because you two have somewhere to be.” He pointed to the other couple.
Captain looked down at her with wide eyes, looking for an answer. “Ah, the outbreak in the United Kingdom. Almost forgot about that.” She said.
“Of course! In the Canadian province. How could I forget?” Thorne chirped as if he knew the whole time.
“Well, I didn’t forget. The vaccines have already been loaded into the Rampion.” The platinum blonde said, signaling to the crates in the cargo bay.
Thorne hummed. “Guess it’s time to go, then.”
“Thank you, Jacin,” Cress smiled at him, and he smiled back.
“Have fun with your Trouble, Jacin!” He yelled from the Rampion, as the ramp closed.
He scoffed, for again, probably the hundredth time that day.

Warning: minor blood, minor swearing
---
“There you go,” Red Hood said opening the window to Eden’s fire escape from inside the apartment. She’d cautiously – and, in this instance, annoyingly – locked it earlier. “Back at Casa de Eden, safe and—”
“Don’t do that again!” she whisper-shrilled in his face.
Red Hood jerked back, surprised. The nerve! He knew full well he’d given Eden a heart attack vaulting off the fire escape like that. And he barely held on to the building while he checked her other window!
“You scared the livin' crap out of me! We’re on the ninth floor, for Pete’s sake!"
He scoffed. “Guess it’s a good thing you left the other window unlocked then, huh? Can you imagine? One little slip then, splat! No more Red Hood." He sniffed obnoxiously and wiped an imaginary tear from the eye of his helmet. "So sad."
“Oh please.” Eden rolled her eyes as she passed her groceries to him. “Like you wouldn’t have pulled out your grappling hook or something and saved yourself.”
“Oh?” He offered her his free hand, dropping the act. “So you mean I had everything under control? And you had nothing to freak out about? Imagine that.”
“Listen you,” Eden said taking his hand, allowing him to help her through the window. “You know well and good by now that I am a panicky person. The very least you could do is give me a heads up before you do something crazy like that!”
“Alright, fine. Don’t freak out, but I’m about to walk over to your table. So scary!”
She rolled her eyes again. "Yeah, I’m absolutely petrified, Mr. Hood.”
He let out a small amused sound.
Cautiously holding her, he led her toward her kitchen table. Eden felt a little ridiculous, but he probably thought she’d keel over if he let her walk on her own. That's what would probably happen to a normal person who’d lost as much blood as her. So, despite being perfectly fine, she played along — totally not enjoying how close he was to her. Nope. Not even the littlest bit.
But as he led her across the room, Eden couldn’t help but see her place with a fresh set of eyes. The kind a person only ever saw through when an unexpected visitor walked through their door — or, in this case, window.
Her apartment was so tiny and barren there honestly wasn’t much to see to begin with. But that didn’t stop Eden from noticing every flaw that was there. Every crumb and speck of dust. Every scuff and scratch that marked the fake wooden floor. The huge pile of “clean” clothes sitting on a chair next to her – thankfully closed – closet door. The walls void of anything but cracks, holes, and an old pair of coat hooks by the front door.
Being in such a small space, and hoping to be able to afford something a little nicer in the not-too-distant future, Eden had decided early on not to fill it with any big or unnecessary furniture. It wasn’t like she needed much to begin with, and she didn’t want to deal with nine flights of stairs when she moved, so it had made sense.
Plus, it wasn’t like she planned on ever having guests. Even if she had people to invite over, inviting anybody to her neck of the woods would just be asking for trouble. Her neighborhood was far too… unneighborly. She’d feel tremendously guilty if anything bad happened to someone who shouldn’t be there to begin with.
But now that she had a guest, Eden severely regretted not trying to turn the rundown studio into something a little homier.
Her “living area” was a piss poor sight with only a lazily made-up mattress and a scratched-up coffee table to fill it. The mattress, which sat on the floor, acted as both Eden’s bed and couch; its sheets half sprawled, half bunched up in a way that Mama never would’ve allowed. The square coffee table – small enough for her to have carried onto the subway with only a little trouble – was absolutely covered in scattered piles of books, notebooks, and pens. Her laptop and headphones – the only things she’d splurged on with Frank’s money – sat on her bed, glaringly shiny and new compared to everything around them.
At least the tight galley kitchen was clean and tidy. She still swept and wiped everything down each night, just like she would back home. Even if the linoleum was unsalvageable in places and the counters worn down, it looked better to Eden than the living space. The colorful dishrags, oven mitts, and canisters of utensils gave it more character than any other space in the apartment. Made it more… presentable.
“By the way, please tell me that’s not your cellphone,” Red Hood groaned.
Eden glanced down at her phone, still on the kitchen table where she’d left it, right next to the tiny notebook of phone numbers. Then she looked up at him, confused.
“Of course it is… Whose else would it be?”
He made a gruff sound, stopping in front of the chair Eden had fled from... gosh, was it only an hour ago? She sat down as he set her bags in front of her with a loud thud.
“Seriously? You went out this late and you didn’t even bring your phone? Do you still think you’re in Kansas, Dorothy?”
Eden frowned. “I know exactly where I am, Glinda.”
“I am not Glinda,” he argued.
“Then are you Elphaba? Or the Great and Powerful Oz himself?” She twirled her hand and dipped her head, giving him a quick, theatrical bow. “Your Oziness.”
He snorted. “I’m just saying it was stupid.”
“I know it was stupid, I just…”
Her eyes flickered down to the little notebook with all her friends and family’s numbers inside. Guilt pulled at her heartstrings. Then she looked to her phone.
Like her laptop and headphones, it was new and bought with Frank’s money. The same money she used to get here. The money he'd given her for trusting him with her “donation”. For agreeing to that stupid meeting in the first place. For thinking he was still her father after all these years.
What a joke.
“It doesn’t matter,” she huffed, snatching them up as she stood. “I’m just an idiot.”
She moved to the smallest of her kitchen drawers, her designated “junk drawer”. So far it only contained a few pens, a pad of post-it notes, a screwdriver, some scissors, and a hair tie. She tossed the phone and notebook in too and shut it roughly.
“Anyway.” She turned back to Red Hood. “What would you like for your thank you?”
Red Hood, who’d been watching at her intently, lifted his head slightly. “Huh?”
“What would you like?” she asked again, thinking it obvious. “I know you liked the cookies I made last week. I think it was snickerdoodles, right? Did you want some more of those or something else?”
“Or… Wait, what?”
“Or something else,” she repeated. “I know you’re keen on calling me that dumb cookie name, but I bake more than cookies, you know. Brownies, fudge, pie, cake — you name it! It doesn’t even have to be sweet either. The only thing I can’t do is make something with filling. I mean, I could but I haven’t bought a piping bag so I’d have to make do with a makeshift one; which, again, I could do, but it’d be a lot messier and I'm actually not that great at filling pastries either way, so I’d really rather not, but—”
“Wait, wait,” he said raising a hand and moving forward. “What are you talking about? Piping bags? Filling?”
“Uh, a thank you?” she said, again, like it was obvious. “You helped me a lot tonight and I want to make it up to you."
“You’ve already thanked me a few times,” he said turning his head a moment. “You really don’t have to—”
“Ohhhh no you don’t, Mr. Hood!” she said stepping forward and wagging her finger at him. “Don't you pretend you didn't go out of your way for me tonight. I know you did, and I know y’all aren’t that big on manners here, but it’s only right I go a little out of my way too to repay you for it.”
"But I can’t stay with you all night, Cookie Girl,” he teased, crossing his arms and leaning against the counter opposite her. “There might be some other dumbass buying eggs and flour in the middle of the night who gets in a knife fight. Can't leave them to bleed out on the streets, now can I?"
"I suppose not," she agreed. "Though I have to admit I'm a little disappointed." She pouted and fluttered her eyelashes. "You really don't think I'm a one-of-a-kind kind of dumbass, Mr. Hood?"
Red Hood barked out a laugh, making Eden grin.
“Oh hey, how about this!" she said jumping black to their original conversation. "I can make a batch of fudge and keep it until you have time in your very busy rescuing-total-idiots schedule to stop by again. Would that work?”
He rubbed the jaw of his helmet as he considered it, then turned to her again. “How good’s your fudge?”
She choked on a laugh at how serious he sounded and cleared her throat. “Pretty good, I’d say. Never heard any complaints and I’ve been making it about as long as I’ve been making cookies.”
He hummed comically loud, the distortion making it unharmonious. “Tempting. Very tempting."
“Annnnnd,” she said leaning forward, “it’d be another one of my Mama’s recipes. It doesn't get much better than that, Mr. Hood, I promise you.”
He hummed again. “I guess one batch of fudge couldn’t hurt.”
“Perfect!” Eden beamed, clapping her hands together. “Any allergies I should know about? Nuts? Dairy? Special calorie diet? Please say no to that one; I hate dealing with low-fat nonsense. I'll do it, of course, for you, but I won't like it.”
“Nah,” he said, sounding amused. “I'm good with whatever. Go crazy, Cookie Girl.”
“Alrighty then. Oh!” She steepled her fingertips and drummed them together, grinning. “Oh, I know exactly what I'll make you... hehehe...”
“Uh, should I be scared?”
“Not at all, Mr. Hood!" she said far too sweetly. "You said go crazy, so crazy I'll go.”
He shook his head at her, then tilted it slightly. “You might wanna take a shower before you go too crazy."
"Hm?"
He nodded to her shirt and Eden glanced down.
“Oh. Right.” She still looked like a crime scene. She looked up at him again, sheepishly. "Sorry."
He shrugged, unbothered. "Don't be sorry. I’m just not huge a fan of blood in my fudge.”
"That's fair," Eden giggled, grateful for the ease that came from talking to him. She looked at her shirt again, grimaced, and pulled at the bloodied fabric. “I should probably go do that now actually...”
“I'll get out of your hair then," Red Hood said pushing himself away from the counter. "Try not to get your stitches wet if you can help it.” Then he stopped and turned as if remembering something. Eden waited until he finally decided to speak. “You seem to be able to hold yourself up now.”
Suddenly, remembering the role she was meant to be playing, her body self-corrected and started to droop to one side. Eden corrected that self-correction by dramatically shifting her weight to the other side then back again — like she was testing her balance in a very, very bizarre way.
“Yeah," she said standing upright again. "I’m not as dizzy as I was before.” Which was not untrue. She’d been extremely dizzy when he'd first found her and wasn’t at all now, so, technically, not a lie. “But I’ll sit down if it gets bad again. That’s what you’re supposed to do, right?”
Red Hood nodded slowly, not saying anything. He slung the black medical bag off his shoulder and put it on the table next to her groceries.
“I’ll leave this in case you need it," he muttered.
Eden nodded, knowing she wouldn’t, then walked him to the window. “Thanks, Mr. Hood. I’ll try to replace whatever I use." She smiled. "I don’t suppose you could give me a rough ballpark on when you might come back?”
“What,” he teased climbing back onto her fire escape, “miss me already?”
“No,” she said too quickly. “Of course not. Don’t be dumb. I’m asking for the, uh, timeline. For… fudge. Purposes. Obviously.”
“Obviously,” he repeated, kneeling in front of her window.
Eden’s cheeks grew warmer and she looked away. “Anyway," she mumbled. "I’m home by 7 most nights. But Sunday or Monday night would work best for me.”
“Alright, I’ll try to shoot for one of those.” Red Hood glanced over his shoulder and down the street. “I really should go now, Cookie Girl.” He stood from the window and pulled out his grappling hook. “Try not to do anything too stupid while I’m gone.”
“Yeah, I’ll do my best,” she scoffed. “Try not to do anything too crazy before you come back."
He snorted. “I’ll do my best.”
Eden smiled, becoming more sincere. "I'll see you later then, Mr. Hood."
"Yeah. See you later, Cookie Girl."
He jumped off the fire escape and Eden leaned out her window to watch him soar across the street. He passed several buildings before landing on a rooftop, where he paused for a moment.
He looked back at her and Eden jerked in surprise, nearly smacking her head against the glass. She sent him a small, shy wave, embarrassed at having been caught watching him go, and Red Hood returned it with a raise of his hand. It looked like he might be shaking his head, too.
Eden quickly ducked back inside and shut and locked her window. She spun around and leaned against it, trying to calm her beating heart and fiery face.
She was already being stupid, it seemed. She really had no reason to be so embarrassed! People watch other people leave their houses all the time! Eden had stood out on the front porch plenty of times back home to watch folks go — sometimes with a smile and a wave, sometimes with a scowl and a rifle in her arms. So how was watching Red Hood go any different? She shook her head and sighed.
That sigh acted as a signal and started a chain reaction.
With nobody else around, her body freely began to set off all kinds of alarms. It had saved her from another encore, yes; and now it demanded its due. She was tired, starved, and just flat out weak from her body's efforts to keep her alive.
The sudden wave of exhaustion nearly brought her to the floor. “Okay,” she mumbled, forcing herself to stand up straight. “Food, then shower, then sleep. Then everything ’ll be better,” she promised.
She stagged back to the table to take care of her groceries. Aside from a few cracked eggs, everything was still intact and, considering the adventurous night she’d had, Eden counted that as a victory.
She could have turned on the stove and heated up some leftovers. She wasn’t so hungry that she was just grabbing anything and shoving it into her mouth. But sleep's siren call was loud and clear, and Eden was eager for bed, so she ate her food cold standing over the sink. The casserole dish was empty before her stomach was full, but it would suffice until morning.
When she turned on the bathroom light and saw her reflection, she froze. Is this what she'd looked like all night? No wonder Red Hood had been so concerned! She looked like she’d caught the red death and was bleeding from every pore! Her shirt was completely soaked through, which she’d already known, but some of the blood had also seeped into her coat and even her pants.
She took a step closer to the mirror. “Holy heck…” Red Hood agreeing to see her again was nothing short of a miracle.
The blood had completely stained the skin around her neck and chest. Only the space around her stitches was clean. The top of her hair was wild and windswept while the bottom half was damp and matted with blood. Her cheeks grew warm as some silly part of her lamented over Red Hood seeing her so gross and uncouth. She tried to fix her hair – as if doing so now would somehow change how she’d looked before – but gave up shortly after beginning.
She turned on the shower and peeled the wet, sticky clothing from her body. Stepping into the hot water, the leftover strain in her muscles eased further, making it harder to keep herself upright. Using her nails, she picked at the adhesive part of the band-aid Red Hood had, half-jokingly, stuck to her palm before bringing her home. The cut, little more than a paper cut now, stung as soap suds and shampoo found their way into the tiny cracks of her skin.
At first, she tried to keep her stitches dry like Red Hood had told her, but gave up quickly. She was too tired for all that. And whatever consequences there were for a normal person wetting their stitches, it likely wouldn’t affect Eden much. Besides, the constant stream of warm water on her neck felt amazing. At least until washed-out conditioner seeped into her stitches. Then Eden regretted everything.
When she got out, she rubbed the mirror clean of fog to inspect her neck. It was just as she’d predicted.
Though red with irritation, the cut no longer reached down to her collarbone and the once deep gash in the crook of her neck was now but a shallow slice. By the time she woke up tomorrow, she doubted there would be anything left of the wound at all. The stitches had been, as she'd known, completely unnecessary. And now she was stuck with them. And would soon have no slice, no cut, nor wound to justify their existence. Great.
Turning out the light, she took a long breath. Hopefully, her body would make short work of the stitches and they would dissolve quickly. But until then, she would just have to keep her neck covered.
---
When she finally crawled into bed, Eden snuggled into her covers and replayed the night in her mind. For as much agony as his stitches had – and would – put her through, Red Hood had transformed her awful, lonely night into something warm and wonderful. And now, she even had something to look forward to. As she drifted off to sleep, Eden found herself smiling. Maybe, somewhere in this big, dangerous city, Red Hood was smiling, too.
She giggled softly at the thought, hoping that maybe – just maybe – he was eager to see her again, too.

rainy days
at this point, i think i’m going SO crazy in quarantine, that if i don’t write i’m gonna lose it :// hope you enjoy this short oneshot <3 (also someone please tell me if i’m writing too much lmfao, i don’t want to overload my blog too fast)
word count: 688 words
“hey spence?” you glanced over to where your boyfriend was making his hot coffee. “yeah?” he looked up and you smiled. “can you get me some cookies when you come back?” “no problem angel.” five minutes later, he came back to the windowsill ledge where you were sitting, staring at the rain. “here.” you took the cookies with a soft kiss and leaned back against him.
“i love the rain.” you whispered and he smiled. “it looks like cold rain. you know, studies show the smell of rain (petrichor) is a mixture of chemicals released by soil-dwelling bacteria, oils released from plants during dry spells and ozone created when lightning splits oxygen and nitrogen molecules. this combination does magic to the body when inhaled.” “so... basically being in or around rain is beneficial to us.”
“exactly.” spence hummed, finishing off his coffee. seeing him done with his coffee, you brushed off the remaining cookie crumbs off your body and straightened up. “let’s go then.” “what- right now?” spence’s eyes widened, and you laughed, the carefree sound brightening spence’s face.
“screw it.” you both were wearing t-shirts (you had stole one of spence’s shirts) and fleece pajama pants, but that didn’t stop either of you. “let’s go.” you squealed in excitement, making spence chuckle. “alright, alright.” you basically pulled him out the door and screamed, jumping up and down in excitement. the road was empty, and the pouring rain made you look up at the sky in the middle of the road in peace.
“I LOVE THIS!” you shouted, twirling and spence laughed. “who knew it took a little rain to get y/n this ecstatic? let’s go.” both of you could barely care you were standing in the middle of the road, drenched but beaming like idiots.
“come here.” “spence.” he twirled you around, and suddenly you were dancing. there was no music, but neither of you could care any less. the rain was music in itself. “i love you.” you whispered, still dancing in the rain. as spence spun you around, your hair clung to your face with wet slaps onto your cheeks.
it was a euphoric feeling, like you were the last people on earth. you screamed again without a care who heard you and urged spence to yell too. “i promise, it’s so fun.” “here goes nothing.” he chuckled, yelling in joy with you. “you’re right, that was incredible.” he said, pulling you aside as a car passed.
you both collapsed in your yard, laying down on the fresh grass. the smell of the damp earth was mesmerizing, so earthy and rich that you felt like you were transported to simpler times. eventually, spence sat up against a tree, and you lay down next to him, your head in his lap. as he talked, you played with his hands, loving how the raindrops trickled down the leaves to land on your cheeks and lips.
as one landed in your open mouth, you looked at spence. “read me a story.” you suggested and he smiled. “hmmm, let’s see.” he pulled out his phone and dried it off, checking the books he had downloaded. “have i read supermarket to you before? bobby hall?” you shook your head and he smiled, clicking on it.
as he read, you noticed he barely looked at his phone, but that was a given, considering his memory. that feeling of laying on the wet grass, listening to spence read to you while the rain fell all around you was still one of your favorite memories years later.
even thought it was impossible to recreate that happy-go-lucky feeling with two loud and lovable kids, you retold the story over and over again, as it was the oldest’s favorite bedtime story. there was nobody else you’d experience that day in the rain with, and you wished you could relive that feeling every time it rained.
“mommy?” your youngest’s voice interrupted your reminiscing and you blinked, turning to your son. “yes baby?” “i think my favorite days are rainy days.” he decided and you smiled, holding him close. “mine too baby. mommy also loves rainy days.”
