brief post about kaeya's potential future arc (or why 5 star kaeya will totally happen 🔮✨️)

so something i noticed is that kaeya always removes or distances himself from the end of any situation he's in. (it's much more noticeable in his hangout).

first is crepus's death. he hangs back and doesn't get involved in his final moments.

kaeya disappears in the final section of the ballads and brews event. you can find and talk to every character except him.

in the venti route of his hangout, kaeya stays back when it's time to sing with everyone. venti then drags him back in. (what's odd is that venti didn't even notice he was gone at first 👀 "now you see them, now you don't")

Kaeya: Slipping away before the final verse is sung, before the poet has uttered the last line, before everything has concluded… I don't know, something about it just resonates with me.

klee says kaeya hasn't read her the end of the book series the fox and the dandelion sea yet, which is about a guy stuck in a loop. in somewhat the same vein, in the secret summer event, he tells her a story about the jinni and a shepard boy but changes the ending from what we know from the in game book…

and then we have the prince qubad play, where he quietly exits after it ends. he explains why himself (through nahida's auge):

in the same route, kaeya quotes the character jaques from shakespeare's play as you like it

Kaeya: Let me think... "All the world's a stage, and all the people merely players."

which is very fitting considering, quote the wiki:

Jaques takes no part in the unfolding of the plot, and confines himself to wry comment on the action and exchanges with his fellow characters.

he also silently does things for others without wanting to take credit, i.e. being rewarded.

and i think i know why 😏

in his character story, kaeya is referred to as a chess pawn in CN, he then repeats this in his hangout.

Kaeya: But I shall not bow to the will of fate. I am no pawn in heaven's plan.

further emphasizing it's not a random throw away term.

i'm neither chess expert nor chess amateur. but anyone can pull up a wikipedia page 😤

pawns are the only pieces that can't move backward, pawns can get promoted to another piece when they reach the end of the board, and… pawns are expandable, made to be sacrificed for the kingdom.

he even expresses the desire to age backwards….which pawns can't do of course.

A very simple such analogy is the Pawn — the expendable, powerless, nameless foot soldier who may, if his actions are brave and his heart is true, become a Queen (although someone more practised at the game may note that the pawn is really a symbol of why you should never overlook apparently powerless people).

that sounds exactly like kaeya's situation, doesn't it? many people have questioned why kaeya is a 4 star given his importance to the main plot, but i think it could be a deliberate narrative decision. (at least i hope it is 😬)

if kaeya is a pawn he can be promoted to a queen when he reaches the end…. except kaeya doesn't want to, as demonstrated by his unwillingness to see things through till the end.

why would he do this?

simply put, it's foreshadowing 😏

kaeya will have his character arc eventually, where the only sensible path is accepting that he must reach the end because pawns cannot stay pawns forever

Promotion is mandatory when moving to the last rank; the pawn cannot remain as a pawn.

there is some sick sense of irony in him declaring he won't be heaven's pawn, when a pawn can only stop being a pawn by moving forward.

i think kaeya's birthday letter about tcg of all things is also hinting at his arc:

If you think about it, playing cards aren't easy at all — you gotta do the math before throwing the dice, and be extra careful with your every move. One step wrong, and the whole table is turned. When that happens, don't you think it's most amusing to watch your opponent's frustrated face, hmm?

say he does reach this metaphorical last rank, what would that look like for him? gameplay wise it would mean a promotion to 5 star status. story wise? a magical girl transformation into the second coming of fischl.

haha ok but, unfortunately i doubt it's that simple.

something else that has been foreshadowed is kaeya's eventual fate…

let's face it, these are death flags. no, kaeya is not going to perma die, but this might be what he has seen through the Auge der Verurteilung and why he's so reluctant to reach the ending of his story.

but in order to defy fate and become a 5 star you have to throw yourself into the embrace of the immernacht first 😈

I actually never made a big big plan over this AU, I had the twins as the main siblings, ragbros as the demon siblings and a few other characters but I never did decide on Tengen,,, hmm 👀

I wasn't sure the backstory for these two but I did change it so Crepus adored Diluc, was maybe a little cold emotionally and his scars came from both birthmark and a fire accident

Kaeya was abandoned and Crepus took him, raised him for a very tiny period of time and passed away, leaving them to fend for themselves

After that I kinda stumbled through the AU itself, but I like focusing mainly on the twins vs ragbros (especially lumine vs kaeya lol)

thoughts on this current quest! ! CARIBERT SPOILERS

good thing that we got a specific answer as to 'where was Khaenri’ah located' 

LOVED the tidbit about Kaeya trying to run away to Sumeru as a kid — as nice as living in the winery might have been, little Kaeya was still sentimental enough to risk that newly gained safety just to reconnect with his roots, very sad and revealing

...also, his absence caused a ruckus and Crepus personally went and took him back, which means either that he truly cared about his sworn son ...or that he had a yet unknown goal for him 👀

more confirmation for Kaeya being a little bit too much into alcohol since he tried every kind of liquor the tavern offered and appears to have a high tolerance (day-drinking even though he must have known that a difficult conversation with the Traveler and Dain was incoming)

on that topic, tbh im not sure if his excuse (learning about Sumeru’s alcohol industry and leading trade negotiations) was supposed to be just that, a lie that he came up with, or if genshin writers are this bad at writing excuses for characters to be places... like I guess 'alcohol import regulations' could be something that the Knights would do, but when Snezhnayan merchants wanted to import their firewater they went straight to Diluc, and overall this doesn’t seem like a worthy task for the Acting Grandmaster’s right-hand man

...unless it was supposed to be a vacation that Jean sent him on, but why would she want him to miss Windblume?

also apparently Diluc won’t be in Windblume either, so maybe this is something they coordinated on, idk

but yeah no, most probably Kaeya just lied and specifically went to Sumeru to find out more about Alberichs

anyway, he is as avoidant as ever, getting the small bit of info he wanted and immediately bailing on mc and Dainsleif (who seems like the type to reveal important secrets without meaning to, so it probably would have served him better to pry a bit more) 

i would have enjoyed it if they actually started arguing haha but alas

don't have a lot of thoughts on Dainsleif himself, his reaction to Kaeya makes sense considering his grudge against the Abyss Order

i still think that Kaeya might have ties not only to the Abyss Order (which he only confirmed for himself now), but also to the Fatui (which he might have known about all along), but that's all just theories

overall i really like that Kaeya doesn't seem to know that much about lore stuff — this gives him an opportunity to learn about it alongside us and have to actually grapple with his duties to either Mond or Khaenri'ah rather than it all happening in the backstory somewhere

also since we are told that Kaeya is Chlothar’s descendant that must mean: 1) Caribert was rid of his hilichurl curse somehow and later procreated  2) unless Kaeya is Caribert lmao but that would be too much?.. 3) in either case Kaeya has some Mondstadt blood in him too since Caribert’s mother was from there, tying the whole ‘bloodline’ issues together neatly

otherwise, yeahh, the usual unfortunate writing choices...

gasp did you just empathize with a character who stands against the current status quo? well, let's spend looots of time proving how unreasonable they are.. 

like it's not even a good play on the standard story of cults preying on vulnerable ppl, but who cares at this point

i guess it’s somewhat interesting when compared to Kaeya’s dad writing which made it sound as if Alberichs took over the responsibility of ruling over the survivors as soon as Khaenri’ah’s royal line was incapacitated, while this quest makes it seem as if Chlothar Alberich lived on his own with his cursed son for a while before he founded the Abyss Order 

which also means that they weren’t officially recognized as regents by the nation? hmm

oh and we didn't even get to see what's under a hilichurl's mask :/

we did learn a bit more about Khaenri’ah as a country, specifically that they had some serious divide between the ‘true’ Khaenri’ah bloodline ppl, the nobility, and the commoners, but im guessing this just leads to ‘it deserved to get nuked bc it sucked’

the gravity thing was fun, i liked it in Elden Ring and i like it here hehe, hope there's more of it in the future

but the dungeon seemed pretty cheap overall, especially that same reused statue prop lol Also man, imagine how fun it would be if the twins actually switched places and we played as the evil one for a bit. It would make the dialogues so much more interesting...  Because yeah, the writers should really stop making so much of the story revolve around the mc when they still don’t have much of a personality or specific motivations. At least our sibling has a goal in mind.  But yeah, no. Anyway!!

Under Crepus' guidance, following his wife's death, Dawn Winery was actually approaching the risky area of becoming a failing business. Elzer and Adelinde helped, patching up what they could but the books did not look healthy at all. Crepus very much took his foot off the pedal, focusing instead on his visceral rage at the universe, indulging in the wine and deepening his connections with The Fatui. It took some time for the books to look better again but this never showed in the public facing of the company. In fact the only way one might find out even to this day, would be to go to Elzer's bookcase where he keeps the accounting books for that period, hiding them from sight out of his promise to protect Crepus. Were they to be looked out, there would be a couple of generous donations listed that would not make sense, Fatui money used to keep afloat. Elzer to this day still has this books and would only ever return them to Diluc if it was made a direct order.

Yes. Sounds like a pretty good arrangement; for him specifically, he's not exactly husband material (in his opinion) with the job he has and the life he leads. However he'd like to avoid someone catching feelings by accident and the whole thing ending the friendship, so he'd only try it with someone he's confident only wants him for his body ;)

I can't settle on a specific number, plus I don't like the whole concept of body count in that sense anyway but.. he's been with multiple people. Unless specified in a verse I write with a ship in it, these have all been brief and temporary things though, he's not had a long-term relationship. Mostly brief flings and sometimes repeated encounters, but nothing you'd consider dating.

Not his thing! He's too much of a romantic at heart to just sleep with a friend; or rather: if he wants to sleep with someone that no longer classifies them as a friend, but as someone he's romantically interested in. He's also convinced these kinds of arrangements cannot go well for long and he wouldn't risk a friendship over sex.

Penetrative. He's not the biggest fan of giving oral, won't say no to receiving tho 👀 Also I can't help it, I saw a fanart/comic 84 years ago (or 2, to be more precise) in which Diluc gave someone a bj and apparently was quite bad at it and it made me laugh so much that the hc stuck with me somehow 🤭

Low to 0 ?? This is kind of verse dependent, but with how I portray Diluc (romantic, loyal) and his backstory and current behavior I don't see him being the type to sleep with strangers but also clearly there has never been a significant other in his life. I feel like since Crepus' death and present day there has not really been an interest in this in him - so at best maybe he's fooled around a bit as a teenager, but that may not have entailed the full program.

I'm a lame person who loves certain cliché tropes so naturally I like the idea that Tighnari's kind only finds one serious mate in their lifetime, which excludes him from engaging in things like FWB :) He'll sleep with the person he's dating, which is the person he is serious about and plans to spend the rest of his life with (although he understands there is a risk because people aren't like him and therefore don't mate for life the way he does).

Penetrative. It's the whole act of being close and one and getting there together that makes it better than just one being pleasured at a time.

Okay, but if I am being completely honest, I've never even given it a thought. When I first started this AU I I thought that I'd leave stuff about Diluc's wife to the reader's imagination since she is, well, the reader in these fics, only having a say in her interactions with her husband and their kids.

maaaaaaybe I could say that's a little of self-insert, but I just really love Diluc

So, the story is literally up to you, the only thought running briefly through my mind a bit ago was 'huh, it'd be an interesting concept if Crepus made a contract back then with some noble family about marrying their kids in the future and adult Diluc calling it off once remembering about it to marry his beloved'.

But, if you are really curious about my opinion how their meeting and proposal could've happened - I can think about it!

Genshin Verse for Sigurd, a Kheari'ahen knight that has lived since the kingdom's founding? Curse? Immortal? Like to give the younger knights a hard time. His favorite knight to annoy is Dainsleif. Dainsleif tries to find the retired knight a partner. Go away old man.

Idea that Crepus was originally from Khaenri'ah, but died during the Cataclysm was reborn as a Ragnvindr, died again, revived by the Abyss for whatever and now serves as a spy for the order. No memory of his previous life, because the Abyss Ordeer did an oopsie and accidentally erased/sealed Crepus's memories away.s

Celestia with an All Being/Person that disappeared one day and hasn't been seen since due to a power struggle?

GESNHIN VERSE for SU, former Celestial representing Dendro. Went into hiding during Celestia's power struggle and hid where would one day become Sumeru. Get mistaken as one of Sumeru's deities. They are okay with this. Pending...

GENSHIN VERSE for Himeko Murata, older twin sister to Diluc and took care of the Winery while Diluc went on his journey of self discovery. She knows exactly what he was doing as Himeko had developed her own spy/information network. She just glad Diluc came back in one piece. Went back to tinkering with things after Diluc returned. NOTE: specifically for my Diluc. Otherwise has no connection to other Dilucs unless otherwise plotted between muns.

GENSHIN VERSE for Malleous Draconia, a work in progress because I really haven't thought much of it through yet.

suspicious sunday shenanigans - signe can see the 'worst' thing someone has done, and feel their emotions as it happened

"Signe?" Kaeya's eye met hers, and though he met her stare, it was hardly with the same measure of intensity. A low huff of breath, near a chuckle, parted his lips, "... Something on my face?"

"I'm not from Mondstadt. I'm-... I'm Khaenri'an."

".... What? Kaeya-... what are you saying?" Incredulous, even distant. The voice of a drifting man returning to focus. Diluc's eyes were watery, as he turned his head.

"I'm Khaenri'an, 'Luc. Cursed people destroyed by the gods? Yes. My birthright. The man who abandoned me, m-my.... biological father, he-..." Stuttering hadn't been Kaeya's way since he was a boy, but he stumbled now, over how to say this. Over how to admit- "He meant for me to be an informant. A spy. So that if the Khaenri'an ever rose to glory again I'd-...I-..." It sounded dirty, wrong. He didn't meant it that way. As a boy it simply had been.

"You-... what? What are you admitting to? What have you done?" Diluc's voice shook, and it tore into Kaeya to hear it, but the guilt was a howl in his head and an iron vice in his chest and he couldn't breathe. He just had to finish-

"gods-.... I never told father." The words rushed from Kaeya's lips, "I didn't know how. I didn't think I could. I-... think I should have. And I couldn't go another day without you knowing the truth." An exhale, blue eyes on his brother, palms out, up.

"Crepus body isn't even cold, and you are telling me-... you had something to do with father's death? That you..... that you're a spy, a traitor?" The strength had returned, and Diluc faced him fully now, brow darkened to a grieved and angry furrow.

"No. No! 'Luc no. I would never hurt Crepus. I loved him, as you did. I-... this was a mistake. I should have waited. I'm sorry-" The cold trickled through him. This really had been the worst, goddamn mistake. What was he doing? Tonight? Crepus was dead. Their father was dead. He should be comforting Diluc, not-... this.

"No." Diluc's voice almost roared at him, and Kaeya's head snapped back up, "Stand and face me. How could you. How could you lie to father and to me, all these years? So it was all a lie! Everything? How could you do this!"

Kaeya shook his head, "Diluc, please. I'm so sorry. I was wrong to tell you, tonight of all nights. And maybe I was wrong to keep it a secret at all. But no-... it wasn't all a lie. You're my brother-"

"Traitor." Diluc hissed, and it was so unlike him. So-... enraged. Kaeya blinked, taken aback, feeling as if he'd been slapped.

"No, 'Luc-"

"Traitor!" Diluc shouted instead, eyes as red as his vision that pulsed at his hip. His palm found purchase on his claymore and Kaeya stepped back.

"'Luc, wait!" He deserved this. He'd brought this on himself. Stupid, stupid boy. Selfish- Kaeya was shaking, eyes welling and spilling over, "Diluc-"

"Draw your sword, traitor!" The growling of fire and Diluc's choked, furious roar rushed toward him.

The bite of metal and scorch of fire tore into his face, bursting across his right eye with pain as he lifted his sword, parrying the blow only just as a cry of pain strangled from his throat. The skin of his hand blistered, burnt, and it was the second blow that singed through his clothes, falling short of cutting deeply into his chest (met again, only just, but his sword) but boiling his skin in its path. A rush of frigid air seemed to take into his lungs, and from his blade and hand frost leapt outward, pushing back at Diluc's blade and sending steam (as cryo met pyro) flying toward both of them.

Kaeya fell back, crumpling onto the floor, nearly sobbing as he pressed his palm to his face. There was blood between his fingers and running from his chest- He couldn't see-.... it hurt-!

Through tears, he saw a blue glow, and in his other palm lay a vision, marked with the symbol of cryo. Oh gods-

"Lady Signe?" Kaeya's voice in the present, "Are you all right?"

kaeya's worst nightmares are when he dreams about killing crepus.

you know how his fear that it was actually his fault was cemented with time? what kaeya fails to see is that, even if he came to his rescue before ursa the drake was going to maim him, what could he have done realistically?? he was young, and most importantly visionless. ever if he rushed here in time, the best he could have done against ursa was to throw his sword at it. like throwing a fucking toothpick at godzilla. it was 100% going to be a bloodbath with many casualties among the knights. including kaeya himself. it's a mix of survivors guilt tinged with the fact that everything else seems to point the blame at him not arriving sooner, and he adamantly refuses to accept the reality that what happened wasn't his fault.

in fact, this translates into a very brief dream where crepus smiles at him, calls him 'son' with all the affection in the world and hugs him. ''it wasn't your fault,'' his adoptive dad tells him, holding him close.

kaeya relaxes in the hold until it starts feeling too warm. it's a warmth that he doesn't deserve, too familiar, too comfortable, and suddendly that hug seems like a straightjacket threatening to crush him. the whole place is on fire, and his lungs are painfully tight-

that's when he drives his sword right between his adoptive father's ribs. sometimes it's the stomach, sometimes he goes straight for the throat. it doesn't matter where it strikes, it's lethal. he slowly takes some steps back and lets crepus body slump to the floor, crimson blood pooling under him catching fire.

he's crying, stomach churning, but all he can manage to say is an almost spiteful ''it is, now.''

Whether or not it was on purpose or accident, HYV writing Amber as Diluc's foil makes me very happy. Like, Amber and Diluc were both betrayed by the KOF and both took an opposite yet equal response to it. Like GAH — I get so emotional about their writing.

For simplicity, I'm calling Amber's grandfather as "Gramps" just to make it less wordy than "Amber's grandfather".

Foil Connection

0️⃣ Amber shares a similar color scheme (pre-alt) with 18 y/o Diluc before his dark aesthetic transition (potentially his mourning clothes).

1️⃣ Amber was a Klee before Klee, with Gramps apologizing on her behalf. Diluc was a well-manner prodigy who brought pride to his father's (family) name.

2️⃣ Both Crepus & Gramps have an influence and legacy with the KOF. Coincidentally, died/disappeared in the same time frame.

kaeya came to mondstadt during a storm in a late summer's night. i don't think he was lying about this since varka could have easily fact-checked this with diluc/dawn winery.

if we are to believe his description, the storm was powerful enough to be dangerous.

BUT according to the npc vind, there HASN'T been a single storm since venti gave his protection to mond. (vind is stationed on stormbearer point, which overlooks the nameless island. there's also a seelie court there that's turned to gaze in that direction.)

this is already very strange but it gets weirder: kaeya coming to mond during a late summer night's storm is yet ANOTHER reference to midsummer night's dream. (kaeya is based on the baby from this play, princess fischl created a summer night garden inside midsummer courtyard, summer courts are seelie courts)
