Breaking SJM news: a completely new series is (likely) on the way !!
Last night, I came across a veryyyy interesting YouTube video posted by Bloomsbury 4 weeks ago. Although the video was mostly super boring (talking numbers and finances), towards the end, we get this little nugget of information...
[Bloomsbury staff member]: "Regarding the timeline and future Sarah J Maas book releases, which are obviously very important to us... so her next title, which is the third in her Crescent City series, comes out on the 30th of January, 2024. So, that will fall into this financial year."
[Bloomsbury staff member]: "And thereafter, we have SIX further contracted titles -- so continuing this series, and STARTING A NEW SERIES AS WELL."
A new series! This likely goes hand-in-hand with the announcement made by Bloomsbury a couple of months prior, in which they stated that 4 additional SJM books were on the way (but curiously, no further details about these books were given...)
Although we don't know for sure, this is my guess as to what these 6 future SJM books are:
2 x ACOTAR books.
Then the 4 remaining, newly contracted books; the first being the final Crescent City book, House of Many Waters.
Leaving 3 x books for the new series (which makes perfect sense, as when starting a new series, SJM is always contracted for 3 books initially).
The question remains as to what exactly this new series may be. Which leads me to... Twilight of the Gods.
[SJM universe spoilers ahead!]
Back in 2015, SJM started a Pinterest board for 2 new book series that were connected in some way; one was Crescent City, and the other was called Twilight of the Gods.
On her Twitter, SJM also mentioned that she had been working on both for quite a while, and that it was soon time to release them into the world.
Around the same time, a series called 'Twilight of the Gods' was mysteriously added to SJM's official Goodreads catalogue.
'Twilight of the Gods' is another term for Ragnarok; a famed tale of Norse mythology where the Gods and giants/demons across all worlds joined together to fight a giant battle that signified the end of the world.
Thus, I believe that 'Twilight of the Gods' is SJM's next series; it will be a Ragnarok retelling, and all of the characters from TOG, ACOTAR and CC will join together for a cataclysmic battle against the Asteri, the Daglan, and the Valg (because lets not forget that Orcus and Mantyx are still unaccounted for...).
With this in mind, consider the numerous references to Norse mythology that SJM has already scattered throughout her books:
Feyre as Freya: Freya was perhaps one of the most renowned Norse goddesses, and was Queen.
Nesta, Emerie and Gwyn as the Valkyries: An obvious one, but the Valkyries originated from, and had a huge part to play in Norse Mythology (Ragnarok especially).
Lucien as Loki: According to Norse mythology, Loki is often depicted with long, red hair. He is also seen as a God of fire, and is commonly associated with foxes.
Danika (Fendyr) and Fenrys as Fenrir: Fenrir was a renowned monstrous wolf of Norse mythology. Fenrir being 'unleashed' is one of the key events of Ragnarok.
Hunt as Thor ('Thurr'): During Ragnarok, Thor has a famous battle against the 'Midgard Serpent.' Consider the snake that Hunt is holding on the cover of HOSAB.
Midgard: is the 'Earth' world in Norse mythology.
Hel (spelt the same way): Is the 'underworld' of Norse mythology.
Further, if you looked at SJM's "Twilight of the Gods" Pinterest board - before it was deleted - you'd see countless images of (Lady?) Thor, the Valkyries, Sailor Moon, and even the coffin that Maeve locked Aelin in... (that can't be a coincidence, right..?!) Some examples below:
'Twilight' is also another word for 'Dusk'; considering the lost Dusk Court, and 'Dusk's Truth' (both of which are the centre of the upcoming crossover and broader multiversal narrative...) it matches up perfectly.
Thus, I believe that the remaining ACOTAR and CC books will continue to add to the multiverse, bit by bit. And whilst they can still be read in a standalone fashion, my guess is that they will build up to a grand finale (perhaps the very last ACOTAR book will end with Aelin walking through a portal...?) and then Twilight of the Gods will begin.
If you thought Kingdom of Ash was epic... then Twilight of the Gods -- if correct -- is bound to blow us away (and, it might even put SJM's name in the history books).

Twilight of the Gods! Sigyn HCs

In TOTG, Sigyn is the eldest daughter of Tiwaz and Gullveig, elder sister of Eostre, Hnoss and Gersemi and 2nd wife of Loki. At first Tiwaz wanted to set her up with any of Odin's sons or nephews as a way to try strengthen Aesir Vanir ties then. But Sigyn isn't drawn to any of the potential Aesir suitors at all and just happen to have sparks fly with Odin's new Jotunn blood brother Loki ( who was a widower then ). They began courting ( much to many' surprised cuz Sigyn was a seemingly sunshine person while Loki is all machivellanism and frost ) and eventually, they got married. She was also amongst her aunt Freya's handmaids and a member of the Aesir Volva Order before her marriage to Loki
Sigyn tries her damn best to beba diplomatic figure between Aesir and Vanir courts and even made powerful alliances with several of them. She was a doting mother to her sons and step children, and truly loves Loki and he adores her
Then Baldr died, and Sigyn was forced to watch Loki being cast down to a cave in Nornheim and her sons being murdered in front of her eyes
Gullveig passed down her Seidr skills to her daughters. And when Sigyn was introduced to the Aesir court at the cusp of adulthood, Eostre was in her teen years, and Hnoss and Gersemi were in their pre teens.
The daughters of Tiwaz and Gullveig are all flower/tree humanoid hybrids ( more flower humanoid ). All of them have black or brown hair, bronzed skin, and vines across their arms and legs, and main flowers around them.
Sigyn got pink roses around her, Eostre got sunflowers around her, Hnossa got lavenders around her, and Gersemi has bluebells around her
When she showed up to Asgard with an entourage in tow, she immediately caught the eye of Loki, who becomes a new blood brother of Odin, and she spoke with decorum and confidence in turn.
Sigyn is a loving wife to Loki and a doting mother to her sons and step children.
TOTG! Sigyn is kinda like Margaery Tyrell, Queen Aurora, Arwen and Queen Zelda in spades. And she often dresses kinda like Margaery Tyrell, Juliet Capulet and Queen Aurora in spades
Also TOTG Sigyn gives me Lana Del Rey vibes

G Witch's Cinematic Rhythm and the Poetic Edda
You might have noticed or seen someone highlight the rhyming shots in Gundam The Witch from Mercury. If you don't know what I mean, I refer to the repeated usage of rhyming shots such as these
Important moments echoed and distorted, rhyming with each other. These are just a couple flagrant examples but hardly alone. When you look close, G Witch loves to do this clever bit of repetition throughout. But what's its purpose? A mere stylistic choice, might be your first assumption. I suspect it's meant to invoke something specific.
Because as I've discussed in my G Witch Norse analysis, the show appears to partly follow beats of Norse Myth (link to examples). And from these rhyming shots, call to mind the Poetic Edda. The Poetic Edda is a collection of tales, skaldic poetry, and songs featuring the mythological exploits of Norse gods and hero-cycles. It features alliterative poetry; echoing but different. The same as the rhyming shots above.
This isn't limited to its episodes either, but also in the various homages to past gundams, such as Miorine being a distorted echo of Relena Peacecraft (link to my analysis on the subject), her relationship with Suletta mirroring Utena/Anthy (RGU) and Miranda/Ferdinand. (The Tempest)
Considering the other influences within the show, The Tempest and Utena respectively, this theme of cycles and rhyme is perpetuated. Revenge, systematic abuse/oppression; metered verse and fantastic tales of witches, royalty, and love blooming within the dark ugliness of humanity. Its rhyming structure becomes nothing short of brilliance.
WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?
First off, neat right? But what will it mean in the grand scheme of G Witch. Consider the Poetic Edda is not a coherent narrative but an amalgamation of stories/skaldic poetry that flows past, present, and future. It simultaneosly tells of Ragnarok or the twilight of the gods, the strife between the Aesir and the Vanir then unification through a marriage between Odin and Frigg/Freya. Similar to the Tempest where Prospero rescinds his plans for revenge upon the union of Miranda and Ferdinand.
This tale ebbs and flows and so do its references within G Witch. Yet I suspect the show's end will likely mirror the most prominent beats-- The End of the Gods, which could mean Benerit Group/Permet weaponry/Spacians, peace and unification between Spacians (Aesir) and Earthians (Vanir) and of course if Miorine becomes president that would make her Odin within the spacian pantheon; a Queen as Relena becomes in Gundam Wing.
Another rhyme in a show enamored with poetry and cycles
Note: Odin does descend into Niflheim, a realm of the dead, to consult a seeress/witch (maybe Eri👀👀) so she could still take a dip into QZ hell
#g witch#gundam witch from mercury#analysis and speculation#miorine rembran#sulemio#Long live the Queen and her witch consort#I love clever use of myth and literature#Could be ramblings of the deranged but shhhhh#g witch spoilers

Watched twilight of the gods. The moment Jezus appeared as some supernatural challenger to Odin i was like - wait I DO know about this show. I had decided not to watch based on that review. Oh well
There was much to like about the show anyway. The concept of giants here elaborated into physical hows (a simple enough thing, but entertaining). The animation is very decent. its certainly a... 'yes-and' myth revenge story. Had to turn off sense for things. The seid-kona is beautifully and subtly introduced as a transgender woman and gets a rather awesome romance and even makes it out like a badass. Sigrid and Leif are a power couple and then add a young god-adopted mortalwoman to their relationship in a very sweet way. Earlier, they do fight over some weird shit, when Sigrid accuses him of going too soft (???), which is an unfortunate criticism leveled against the main male character rehabilitating human viking raiding and murdering and masculinity itself basically (esp. considering that kind of behaviour is exemplified most awfully in Thor the murderer who she's trying to kill for it) Good character design. Green eyes... And also Freya, Loki, Sif, Baldr... The revenge story is an easy one i realise, because wholesale murder of your family is simply a great way to get an audience to commit to wanting to see the murderer pay. Some characters seemed better cut (Helvor) for how little they added and how much their tone did not work with the 'grand old time' tone of much of the other dialogue (which I enjoyed). Quite liked that they explored the gods as simply more powerful (often asshole) beings - which I always find a refreshing straight look at the premise of such 'fantasy'. Thought the dwarves were attributed interesting abilities (familiar to anyone more familiar with Viking lore i imagine). The use of crude language not too ridiculous... Fight scenes were alright until the big battles when it got rather stupid ( how high can Leif, mortal man, jump?), especially the last two episodes are so much battle that doesn't really...do much. There's a Troy reference in there. It is an all out battlefield, and that's a bit boring I guess, and its not clear why they don't use a breach they put in the wall to enter an army. Especially since we're multiple times reminded that she can't beat Thor in a duel alone. Also not clear why Freya saves Thor from his grief and defeat when she hates Asgard and wished for its demise. By the end I was left unsure if Sigrid realised that Loki had led her family to be killed by Thor so she would suit Loki's cause, and her second order of business was for sure killing Loki after Thor. Absolutely strange ending, also.

I really like the Bifrost Incident.
So let’s take a look at a few of my favorite details
- Lífþrasir is one of the two humans to survive ragnarok, Edda is of course a reference to the Eddas
- Odin cannot kill Loki in Norse myth (blood brothers) so he chains up Loki in a punishment worse then death —> Odin does not kill Loki, instead mutating her brain
- “All I can recall is sunshine, and it’s merry song” while perhaps just referencing being imprisoned, it also could reference Baldur and a remorse for killing him
- MISSILE TWO JESUS CHRIST JONNY (Loki killed Baldur with mistletoe”
- Garm is referenced as a hound that guards hel’s gate, with associations with the twilight of the gods
- Hati and Skoll are the wolves that chase the Sun and moon, and when they catch the bodies that signals the end times— they’ve finally caught up
Kinda cool that the gang that Sigyn brings are all wolves
- Kvarsir was the god of poetry, turned to a wine (kinda?) through trickery by Odin, which he drunk, giving him even more knowledge
- Heimdall is the first to die- he is the one who signals the end times with his horn “he’s skinned alive by his own cry the end is neigh”, he’s also a far-seer so only his eyes remain
- Frey is killed by Surt, the king of the fire giants, represented by a giant sun. For his wife he lost his sword and it was prophesied that without his sword he’d die to surt => “no weapon, no defense, as his void burnt flesh is flayed”
- Odr is obscure, but he is Freya’s husband, who leaves for some reason, causing Freya to cry red-gold. I could not find anything on Freya’s death
- Tyr lost his hand to Fenris’s mouth when they bound him (implication is Tyr could’ve been a spy involved in Fenrir’s capture), he regrows it only to die in battle with Garm, as is prophesied
- Odin becomes Jormungandur, the one prophesied to kill Thor. The emphasis on the one eye is interesting because the lost eye was a sacrifice for knowledge.
- Interestingly Odin might be one of the few who escaped her fate, (aside from Loki, perhaps the only one?) she’s supposed to die to Fenrir. I take this as an indication of how much she’s warped the plot by calling outer gods
- For his transgressions, Loki was locked under the world, tied to a table with a snake dripping poison into his eyes above him. Sigyn joined him, holding a bowl to keep the poison at bay. —> How they delay the train :(

Twilight of the Gods: Mythosyns
(Inaccuracy & Stupid Shenanigans Countdown)
Rankings:
S/6 - This is actually in the mythology or accurate to our pagan ideas of the gods
A/5 - Passable; As they should, not going above and beyond; Doesn't break immersion
B/4 - Could've done better or more research; could've asked a pagan; will continue with caution
C/3 - True Neutral
D/2 - Don't like it; okay?; Breaks immersion
F/1 - Absolutely not
Misc: no = automatic 0, comment out of number, silly
goofy, +/ - (.5), E/1.75, etc.
Let's Benean - Episode 3: “You Will Gladden His Ravens”
(I need you readers to know, my girlfriend and I have been wanting to make a Loki story for…A WHILE basically since we’ve started dating a couple years ago…only 2 episodes in and I think we’ve found the push we needed…anyway
Onward, mortals!)

2. Jormungandr is a sexy trans lady: A (for as they should)
3. Ew, Thor. Fuck off: F
4. Loki, the ominous cockblocking dad: S (for papa of slithery lil snek)
5. NO. NO. GOD. PLEASE, NO!!: F (for put that thing back where it came from or so help meeeee! So help me, so HELP ME! That thing as in Thor entirely)
6. Cheating on Sif: Unfortunate S for accuracy :(

12. Dwarves turn into stone when they die. This is accurate: S
13. The apples were not taken from the Vanir. They were a wedding gift to Idunn by Ivaldi, her father: F
14. Freya wasn’t the queen of the Vanir. She was traded as a hostage during the war, along with Freyr and Njord (Their father): B (for acceptable confusion, but come on)
15. Egill said the gods spit in a well, but no mention of Kvasir, God and Traveler of knowledge: B (for could’ve added, “[…] and with the birth of Kvasir, the war was over.”)
16. Bindrude on the weapons, but no explanation, so probably not a real or accurate bindrune: C
17. Oh now you say it right, Thor: Inconsistency/6 (0)
18. Roll Credits/6 (0)
19. Kid didn’t deserve that. Fuck you, Odin: L Odin (for 0)
20. Wow, Thor respects Sigird’s title more than Lief. Lief saw it as a sexualizing trait!: I’m not sure what to make of this/6 (D?)
21. Thor sounds (and looks) like a fake hippie guru: F (for he’s trying to sell me CBD oil and will not accept “I’m allergic” as an answer)
Mythosyn count: 53
Out of
6x21= 126
42% despite all the S’s, it has LOST points.

Goddess of magic, moon, witchcraft and twilight & vision*future seeing*
Mother figure and teacher to hyila
Goddess Freya

Freya is the moon goddess and is the first oldest goddess to ever existed, her history is very unknown to anyone and Freya wishes to not speak about it. She created beings to live peaceful on hyrule and she take in hyila under her wing to teach her on being a good goddess that will keep hyrule and all its people in peace than abuse her abilities for selfish reasons or bring harm to all. Freya met the war deity fierce and have conversations as well treated him like a normal man than a killing machine, though it may look like a mother and son figures but eventually she take in fierce as her son in a way. But she was killed by demise due to hyila mistakes and fierce became the God demon like his name. Freya try to get hyila to stop chasing after a mortal man *first* since the vision she seen show something bad will happen if she continues to chase after him but unfortunately failed so she the one to help the mortal man *first* since he'll be the hero's spirit.
Freya before her death, she had a vision of her death that she use her power to save a small piece of her own soul to be secretly reincarnated in a body of a mortal but unfortunately due to hyila mistakes *that got mix in with Freya's magic in the process * her small soul piece is stuck with the whole reincarnation cycle with the three. Though with each reincarnation have a price that she always blind or deaf, both and a short life span.
Eventually her last reincarnation is that of a young blind child that is the child of the hero of courage and weider of the full three Triforce.
Enjoy everyone this lore on the first goddess Freya ^^

Twilight of the gods! Idunn

Idunn is the younger sister of Sif and the younger of the 2 daughters of Gefjon and Skoldjr. Idunn is certainly more extroverted and bubbly than her more poised elder sister. And growing up, she and Sif learned the art of harvesting from their mother
Idunn was once amongst the retinue of handmaids of Freya when she and Bragi began courting, and Idunn was eventually assigned to watch over the Golden Apple groves after she married Bragi
Idunn loves dancing and drawing, and has a generally sweet countenance, yet is not to be trifled with. During Ragnarok, she helped many refuges to shelter in Vanaheim, Alfheim and Nidavellir away from Odin's rampage, and she and Bragi scrambled to get all the Golden Apples away and stored in force field hideouts from the rampage across Ragnarok
TOTG Idunn is kinda like Marianne Dashwood and Myrcella Baratheon in spades
And TOTG Idunn often dresses kinda like Myrcella Baratheon and Maid Marian in spades
