when you have tourette’s there’s nothing worse (there is, but stick with me) than finding a new artist through a random song, then listening to their entire discography, only to find almost every single song contains whistling so you can only listen to three songs … it makes me want to scream

the amount of fakeclaiming around 2020/21 I received for my diagnosed tourettes syndrome from my own relatives because of the insane amount of online fakeclaiming for it then will never leave me

in what world should my closest friends think it’s okay to send me videos of someone else with my condition and ask whether or not I think they’re faking?

Is anybody else w/ tics just...angry?

Like it's a parents' job to support their kids, and yet people like me still have to avoid our parents on bad days or go to the bathroom to tic because are families think we "caught our tics from tiktok" and will get upset with us.

Society claims to support and respect everyone but most people won't do the bare minimum to educate themselves on tics and continue to perpetuate stereotypes.

I shouldn't have to suppress my tics around my family, it's painful, support and acceptance is the bare minimum.

I shouldn't have to be afraid going to go into public because I fear being harassed.

I shouldn't have to be afraid going to my homeschool co-op for fear of being harassed or fear of teachers not knowing what tics are.

If you don't have tics please learn the bare minimum about them and leave people with tics alone.

Having to lock yourself in your bedroom during an extreme tic attack so you don’t hurt anyone or yourself is a feeling I wish I never had to fucking experience. I fucking hate this. Why does my brain have to work like this. Fuck.

Ableist Story Time!

Sooo it was my final day of driver ed, stopped at a red light, all going fine, humming n tapping my fingers, just stimming a bit, only some very minor and infrequent facial tics... I wasnt hardly doing anything "odd", merely not masking. And then the driving instructor asks me "Did you take your medicine today?".

Bitch? What?

1. Thats not something you ask a stranger

2. Her tone was,, idk how to describe but it didnt help make what she said less-ableist-feeling/ less offensive

3. In asking that she was essentially saying "i think youre acting crazy" and/or "you seem unfit to drive because of this behavior" (the behavior was extremely mild and its not her job to decide if my illnesses prevent me from driving or not)

4. I don't take medicine for tourettes or for ASD, so idek what "medicine" she was referring to. She doesn't know me. If I wasn't on any medicine she would essentially be telling a stranger that she thinks they need to be medicated.

In summation, the rest of the drive was not particularly great. As we drove faster and my anxiety worsened my tics too slightly, and knowing that she was judging me for it certainly didn't help me relax. Simply stimming is enough for someone to think someone should be medicated. I spend most of my time with accepting, and usually also ND, people, so this was my first encounter with someone like this in a while. It was a shock to say the least, a shock that people are still so un-understanding.

Feel free to comment or rb your opinions, if I'm overreacting or if you have similar experiences. Personally i think this exchange was ridiculous and embarassing and incasive and abelist.

This is in order to avoid stereotypes and misconceptions.

Sorry, this is just a personal comfort thing. You can ship that stuff in your head or in private spaces with friends, just not in public please, and don't let me know about it. ^^; (Plz it would make me very uncomfortable.)

Now that that's out of the way, look! It's him! :D I'm so exited to share this. I love him sm already. ;v; I've wanted to post this so bad the last couple of days, but I had to finish it first lol.

For anyone who doesn't know, I have Tourette's. Most of the tics I give him are ones I have or have had before. (Any others are one's I've heard of/seen from other ppl.) :> Btw, he's Tourette's Awareness color coded, and the ribbon embroidered on his jacket is the Tourette Syndrome ribbon. :D (Never realized before that my theme colors that I use everywhere are so close to the Tourette's Awareness color and that makes me very happy.)

I hope ppl like my silly lil neurospicy Sans. (Especially anyone else who might also have Tourette's.) ;v;

i have been harrassed, threatened, beaten, pushed down the stairs, yelled at, mocked, and treated like a freak my whole life because of my tourettes. being visibly disabled as a child and being subjected to physical violence because of it is traumatic in a way i dont know how to explain. ableism is fucking evil, teach your shithead kids better.
