it’s so difficult being someone who needs to talk to themself in public. there is no way for me to avoid looking “crazy” when im constantly shouting or whispering to myself or jerking my neck. i wish people understood this doesn’t mean im dangerous. people with many different mental illnesses or disorders face this issue as well and all situations deserve more compassion. treat people who talk to themselves loudly or quietly, continuously, repeatedly, or with pauses, the same as anyone else.
Edit: not targeted at anyone but I feel the need to say that This post is about tics and tourettes and psychosis please do not derail, your experience with needing to mutter bc of ADHD, autism, etc, is valid but different than being uncontrollably loud, and this is about an experience that's often left out of conversation.

genuine question. I’ve had tics (motor and vocal) since august 2021 and i’m 99.999999 percent sure it’s tourette’s. I have a doctors appointment in like a week and I want to bring this up but I don’t know how to because mine aren’t the most severe so if y’all have advice please let me know 🙏

it’s wednesday LFG!!!
much gratitude to @littlemisskittentoes @magicandarchery @nocoastposts @songliili @eusuntgratie and @getmehighonmagic for the tags!! <3
a lot of you guys seemed to like my last 6sunday post, and this wip means a lot to me so i decided to share more and namedrop her LOL.
this is tourette’s!alex :,)
The car ride is silent except for Alex’s ragged breathing and the occasional grunts that he tries to suppress. He wants more than anything to snap himself out of the state of dismay he’s in. It feels claustrophobic despite not being in a physically enclosed space. Though, his body seems to have regressed what feels like 20 years; not being able to speak, streaks of tears staining his face without any sensible explanation. He feels infantilized—like he needs to be taken care of.
And he is.
Henry doesn't break contact with him the whole 40 minutes to the hospital, with his hand rubbing soothing circling on his thigh, sometimes grabbing Alex’s hand to stop the subconscious clenching of his fist. Whispering things like ‘It’s okay, love, I have you.’ and ‘you’re safe, it’s going to be okay’, and even though Alex doesn’t feel like it’s going to be okay at this exact moment, he knows that he has Henry to fall into—to lead him through the dark days that conjure their way back into his life every few months without preamble. He hopes this is nothing more than that.
open tag to anyone who sees this and @bigassbowlingballhead @sunnysideprince @firenati0n @anincompletelist @affectionatelyrs @gayrootvegetable @hgejfmw-hgejhsf @happiness-of-the-pursuit @heybuddy-drabbles @indomitable-love @sparklepocalypse @i-am-freyja @matherines @priincebutt @bitbybitwrites @strandnreyes @captainjunglegym @tinyarmedtrex @taste-thewaste @myheartalivewrites @read-and-write- @firstprincexo @alasse9 @suseagull04 @saturntheday @inexplicablymine @kiwiana-writes @itsmaybitheway

Reminder that it’s okay to use the accomodations that you need.
I still struggle picking up stim toys or listening to music when I’m ticcing badly, cause I feel like I need to just get through it.
But using the tools that are available to you doesn’t make you any weaker, it just allows for you to take better care of yourself <3

Okay but honestly the worst thing about having Tourette’s syndrome isn’t the ableism, pain, stigma, etc. while all of those really do suck, nothing is worse than desperately trying not to tic and disturb your cat that has curled up resting on your leg.
I am currently in bed trying not to disturb the resting baby because I know he won’t understand that I can’t control it. I don’t care much about my tics in most situations, but when it disturbs my little kitty just trying to take a sleeb. I WILL NOT STAND IT.

The thing about Tourettes is whenever the neighbourhood dogs go off I have to join in with them.

Not sure if anyone has said this before, but as someone with Tourette’s I headcanon Nimona as having it!
Because when she is talking about her shapeshifting she says,“I feel worse when I don’t do it. Like my insides are itchy. You know that second right before you sneeze?” And that’s how tics feel to me!
Anyway, thought I’d share that because it makes me kinda happy!

Having to lock yourself in your bedroom during an extreme tic attack so you don’t hurt anyone or yourself is a feeling I wish I never had to fucking experience. I fucking hate this. Why does my brain have to work like this. Fuck.

Hey, I wanted to ask-
People with tics/Tourette’s-
Asking because I personally have pretty regular tics, and feel teased/invalidated when people will mimick, mock, or pretend to have my tics

Serious question and im sorry if it’s a stupid one, I wanted feedback not from google n people who weren’t HOH.
If you have FND or Auditory processing disorder, would that count you as hard of hearing? Especially if you have trouble distinguishing sounds?
I’m not sure if being hard of hearing is only “available “ to those who have a hearing disorder like.. auditory neuropathy or smth ?

when you have tourette’s there’s nothing worse (there is, but stick with me) than finding a new artist through a random song, then listening to their entire discography, only to find almost every single song contains whistling so you can only listen to three songs … it makes me want to scream
