angel is scrolling through his phone aimlessly — as has been a favored past time of his as of late, to which he couldn’t complain. it certainly beat every waking minute of every day being wasted away in that studio, or his previous, shitty little apartment. plus, the princess of hell was insane enough that she let him stay completely rent free, only under the pretense that he behave himself . . . whatever the fuck that was supposed to mean. luckily enough for the spider demon, what charlie didn’t know wouldn’t hurt her. & what she did know ? angel wouldn’t dwell on.

he only partially zones back in when he hears her call for him from the kitchen, her light steps approaching him. he swipes away a message from his boss & pulls his gaze away from a review on his latest adult film, something along the lines of ‘i couldn’t even last fifteen minutes, once angel dust took on that burglar i was a goner —’ to finally meet charlie’s gaze. like a light switch, what she was saying & the bag in her hand click in his mind. he isn’t sure whether to laugh or play coy. his strangled, surprised chuckle might have been a mix of both.

Val pulled Angel aside on his break and held out a tall cocktail glass. Inside it was what looked to be some kind of potion, purple and shimmery-- edible glitter, perhaps.

"Drink up for Daddy," the moth cooed, fingers moving to wrap around Angel's arm— too tightly. "I'm not asking."

It wasn't unusual for Val to supply Angel with a little pick-me-up, and it certainly wasn't unusual for him to omit the crucial information of what the substance being supplied actually was. However, the devious expression on Valentino's face and the tight grip of his arm filled Angel with immense dread.

There was no way out.

"Gee, uh... thanks, Val," Angel replied hesitantly, accepting the glass with obvious reluctance. It didn't look like Love Potion, that was for sure. Instinctively, he sniffed it - nothing. It didn't even smell of alcohol, let alone anything overly chemically or suspiciously sweet.

He gulped. Here goes. Down the hatch.

So back on my "distract yourself from your problems in the name of education by playing through patho classic but in Russian this time" bullshit and I'm trying to catch where there are interesting translation choices.

For instance, in English, what Aspity says about Katerina is "Rumor has it, she needs daily morphine injections and welcomes cold-skinned visitors in her alcove at night..." whereas in Russian it's "Х��дят слухи, что колет себе в бедро морфий и принимает по ночам визитеров с холодной кожей". (Disclaimer: I have not slept in 2 days and I might be stupid, so someone tell me if I'm wrong! however) I think the only significant difference is that instead of saying "she needs daily morphine injections," what she originally said was "she injects morphine into her thigh" [hip? idk I assume meaning like the femoral vein]

Which is only funny because h. hey Aspity. hey Ms. Aspity "I know all the local bitches" Pathologic, do you want to share with the class exactly where you got that specific piece of information? Did you see it or—
