I used to read this recapper's pro DE/anti SE thoughts during TVD and while the site doesn't exist anymore there are archive links to their posts. I think you'll enjoy reading this on 4x6 and Elena's subconscious with Katherine:
https://web.archive.org/web/20130528231733/http://www.rophydoes.com/other-recaps/the-vampire-diaries/406-we-all-go-a-little-mad-sometimes/
This post is a treasure, and I thank you so much for sharing it with me. Believe everything you read because I agree with all of it. I'm actually bookmarking the blog because I love it that much, so I hope it never gets deleted. I haven't read the whole thing yet because it is quite long, but this link is everything I feel about 4x6. The blogger is more thorough than I am, and they word things better than I do. But the way I blog isn't so much for a wide audience because honestly, my ADHD is unmedicated as I choose to be. This writing is perfect for a large audience, so it's easy reading. Everyone that has read this blogger's post now knows what I've been saying. I knew Stelena was over in this very episode. You can literally feel the beginning and the end. Something I often talk about when Pastor Young flicks his lighter and blows up his farm house. He blows the kitchen because Elena is gonna be cooking without Stefan. And Pastor Young does this as soon as Stefan puts the daylight ring on her finger.
Elena's subconscious during the hunter's curse is a lot like the Legacies prism. That's why it's appearing as three different people rather than Elena herself. Elena is warring against herself, and she's getting buried in it. The curse wants her to give up, so it's hitting her pretty damn hard. It won't give her a moment to breathe, to relax. It's coming at her in a way that's a lot like Damon and Sybil in the cellar, only for Elena, it's everything she needs to move forward in her new life. She just needs them to pull her out of it like they pull Damon out of his head. Because yes, that's where she is in this episode - Her head.
I feel the same of Elena's feelings for Damon in 3x22. I will add to that. It's my continued belief that Elena wanted to break up with Stefan in her bedroom, and right before he kissed her. However, Elena had to wait for that breakup because of who she is. She can't break up with Stefan, then have him leave her house to face Alaric. That's not something to fight with. So she told Stefan that they could talk later. I'm not saying that she would've picked Damon, only that she was ready to break up with Stefan. I specifically love the portion about the doppelgangers and how Elena views herself regarding that aspect of herself. Beautiful work on that.
I love how this blogger mentions Elena being reborn because that's exactly what it felt like for me. More to the fact that water is used for them, so her drowning was perfect for it. They did the same thing with the daylight ring that they did with the vervain necklace, only they used fire for that. They pull this insane flashback montage as Elena is marching her way to the bridge because they're basically rewinding to 3x22 and throwing her back into the water. It's what you'd imagine. She's washing off the pains of the day and prepared to live true to herself. So when Elena wakes in her room, they're in her room because they've literally rewound it to the beginning of 4x1. That's why you'll see Damon sitting at her window like he was before. And yes, it was supposed to be Damon sitting on her bed with her, not Stefan. She let go of the normal girl she was, and is now ready to embrace this new girl that she is. She's emerging from the lake with her truth, and her desire to live in that truth.
So what I see in the Delena scene is their beginning. Elena wanted them to continue sitting on her bed, holding each others hand and... nope, Damon takes the high road. She didn't want him to take the high road at this point, she wanted to enjoy the moment with him. This is what drives Elena in her scene with Stefan. Since the moment she watched him walk away in 4x1, she's been forced to let him go over and over again, and she's just done with it. The section on the Delena bedroom scene… you'll understand what I mean when I say they're organic. The writers have them falling so naturally that I'm like… damn. They're everything that Stefan and Elena are not, and I love them for it. They built this, all of this, and in a natural way.
The Stelena scene is their end. I agree with Elena being the one who broke up with Stefan. I've felt that way since my first watch. But it's not without explanation. At the open of the episode, she refused to let Stefan make it about Damon. Here, she's purposefully making it about Damon because she's pushing Stefan to break up with her. I mean, she just survived an insane war against herself and all of these feelings she's been soaking up since time began. So after dealing with the curse, she wants this breakup to be easy. She's pushing Stefan to say the words. Just as much, she wants the breakup to be his. All I can think about is that movie, How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days.
I love it when people give me posts like this to chew on. I'll be enjoying it for a while.

Can you gif the difference between Delena and Stelena kisses, where Delena’s kisses vary in every situation being passionate, playful or intimate or all sometimes? I saw a post where they were compared and same type of Delena kisses were cherry picked while Stelena ones that weren't that impressive showed variety. They actually think Stelena's 1x10 kiss was better than Delena's motel kiss. I saw someone say "a lot of moment framed as romantic are also horrible, most of the times Damon kisses Elena she just stands there, frozen, looking like a victim of assault," which sounds more like Stelena's kiss in 3x22 to me where she stood there frozen but it was portrayed as romantic.
The only area in which Stelena outshines Delena is in their friendship, but that's only because Damon falls in love with Elena in 1x19 while Stefan eventually un-falls for her. Stelena can't compare to Delena romantically... that includes their kisses. There isn't a kiss on TVD that outshines Delena's motel kiss. I think Stelena fans make ridiculous comparisons because they're bitter. I would be too if I were a Stelena shipper because the writers didn't give them much. Elena is frozen for her kiss in 3x22 because she had every intention of breaking up with Stefan. That's what she wanted to talk to Stefan about, but chose to wait until later. Alaric staking Klaus changed the course of her conversations, so the conversation she wanted to have in 3x22 doesn't happen until 4x6.
They made it clear in 3x19 that Elena wouldn't be devoted to Stefan because she couldn't be. Her love for Damon was too powerful. Her kiss is a surrender, a suicide. Whenever I talk about that episode, I always talk about Damon kissing her and killing her at the same time because that's what's happening... and it was Elena's doing. imo, that kiss sealed her fate to become a vampire. That's why their soundtracks in 3x19 overlay 3x22 perfectly. I consider 3x19 her metaphorical death and 3x22 her actual death. Stefan's girlfriend died in Denver.

I find it interesting how the writer who wrote 3x19 also wrote 4x11 and Elena is wearing the same earrings in both episodes. Brian Young wrote many episodes of TVD, especially the earlier seasons, and basically carried the show. I prefer his writing over Julie's.
3x19 is gorgeous on its own. I love it more than words can say. It's what I consider the death of Stefan's girlfriend. A literal kiss of death. Elena is two-sided, like Katherine in Elena's body in season 5. Like Alaric with his alter ego. It's not just the scenes and the way they're written, it's the soundtracks. Both of them speak to Elena's death. She's written alongside Alaric and his alter ego because she fell in love with Damon. When Alaric becomes a vampire, it's another foreshadow for Elena. One of the brothers will tie her life to theirs just as Elena tied Alaric's life to hers. Dr. Fell takes Esther's role in that.
A silent car ride home because Damon said all he needed to. He's basically forcing her to break up with one of them. He's not gonna be the one to break things off with her. That's why Stefan breaks up with her in 4x6. It's what she needed to move on with Damon, and without fear of losing him as a friend.

There's nothing makes TVD so easy to understand more than your intellectual posts. You could write a series that comes off from all the series you analyze where people gets better understanding because with understanding what's happening, it's very easy to watch the series.
More so as soundtracks matters especially in TVD .
Never let me go says a lot about 3x19
When the lights dies out says a lot about 3x21 when Elena collapse
Walking Blind says alot about Stefan and Elena from 3x20 straight to 4x6
I believe S4 is an extension of S3 .
I would nicely ask you to do analysis on soundtracks .❤️🫶
Take the soundtracks from season 6 and overlay them to season 3 because Elena isn't falling in love with Damon for the first time, she's re-falling after having her memories erased by Alaric. Unbreakable by Jamie Scott plays in 6x6. This hits huge for Delena in their workout scene in 3x6 and continues forward into 3x22. Stefan breaks his finger during football practice, he snaps it back in place. Damon's blood created vampire Elena, and she's unbreakable. His solid plate of bone is now hers. She's training to kill vampires just to become a vampire created by Damon. When Damon becomes human, you can see why he put his hand on her heart in that same workout scene. Her soft, human heart is now his. It's every bit what he told Jessica in the road in 2x12. There's only so much hurt a man can take. Hurt that can break you. Damon and Elena are each others protector. They would die together and for each other. 3x6 is the opposite of 3x4. In 3x4, Damon thinks she's going to break, and she says she won't. In 3x6, Elena thinks she's going to break, and he says she won't. Alaric act as an invisible bystander in 3x6 opposite 3x4. She's lifting weights because he told her to. Damon basically told Elena that if anyone's gonna break, it will be him and/or Stefan. Not her.
6x13 is one of the biggest hits to season 3. More specifically, to the reason Elena became a vampire. I'm not just talking about the soundtrack, I'm talking about the sum of their Delena scenes in that episode. The concept of Elena in reverse because it's all the same whether it forward or backward. That's why Elena kisses Damon as a human in 3x19, kisses Damon as a vampire in 4x7, then kisses Damon as a human in season 6. What they're really doing, is putting Elena and Damon in parallel with Liv and Tyler. Elena wasn't choosing between both brothers in 3x22. She was choosing between being human with Damon or being a vampire with Damon. She basically chose death over him, but only as it pertains to her phone call. If you've seen my Ghost World analysis, you can see the Wickery Bridge in 3x22 and how it parallels the vampire seal in the Lockwood tunnels.
Time by Mikky Ekko, their soundtrack for 6x13
Time doesn't love you anymore But I-I-I I'm still knocking at your door
Damon had an hour to make it back home in 3x22. Elena had three hours to feed in 4x1. Time doesn't love her anymore.
Honey, we can run forever, if forever's what's in store Oh, time to take me home
Damon asked Elena where she was. His vampire hearing knew she was on the road. Elena said, "Matt's taking me home." Home is in the water to drown with Damon's blood in her system.
On a tree in the garden I carved your name, An word is spelled desire Like an ocean deep with the waters even, even
Damon written as the ocean. Just look at 3x19's soundtrack.
And your love pours down like a waterfall And I can't escape the tide Here's my hand, baby take it or leave it, leave it
Again, the water theme. Similar lyrics in their 4x4 soundtrack.
Now we're too young to recognize Nothing stays the same Promise I won't be the one to blame
Nothing stays the same. Even people change. Matt's comment to Elena on the bridge in 3x11. She's not that girl anymore. It's okay if she wants to let her go.
The love triangle is Stefan - Elena - Damon. Damon didn't compel her of Stefan in 3x5. Alaric compelled her of Damon in 6x2. This leaves Elena only remembering Stefan's half of the story in 3x22. She gets Damon's half from Damon, that's why they talk about it. She's not shaking her head at Damon. She's shaking her head at herself, for the poor choice she made back then. Despite lacking every single detail, she knows enough to know that she chose death over Damon. She was no longer in love with Stefan in 3x22. When Damon told her she was choosing between them, she knew because Stefan wasn't a choice, he was a friend.
Elena's comment before they kiss at the end of the episode. If the past is a place without her and Damon together, then stop living in it. Stop living in it because they were dying in it in season 3. That's the only reason they weren't together in 3x22 and 4x1. She always finds her way back to him because he is her always. Every bit 3x22.

For those of you who question Damon's face-touching. His character in 1x3 is still epic to me, all things considered.
In 1977, Lexi tried to flip his humanity switch by bringing up Katherine. On the night he and Elena first met, he initially thought she was Katherine.
Tumblr media
When he threatens to hurt Elena in 1x3, Stefan makes a comment about Katherine and his humanity. Then Damon hits Elena's room. That's his humanity.
You have to view the entirety of Defan's conversation to understand what I'm about to point out and why. Katherine is a vampire, Elena is a human. "If that's my humanity, then what's this?" It's his vampirism, and Stefan was the one that technically created "vampire" Damon when he forced him to transition.
Tumblr media
The way he is with Elena at the open of 1x11... it jumps off 1x3. Obvious that if Stefan is hiding/pretending, then Damon is hiding/pretending.
Tumblr media
It's the difference between 1x3 and 1x11.
Tumblr media
Katherine the vampire and Elena the human. Damon's vampirism and Damon's humanity. What's Elena gonna get? Damon's humanity.
Tumblr media
They end up in an understandable parallel with Hannibal and Will. Humanity is a vampire's greatest weakness, and he gave it to her.
Just picture Damon as Hannibal and Elena as Will.
Hannibal: I let you know me. See me. I gave you a rare gift. But you didn't want it. Will: Didn't I?
Tumblr media
Because humanity is emotion, it's of the heart.
Will: He left us his, uh... his broken heart.
What happens when Elena realizes she "hurt" Damon. "Hurting" him requires a heart. Requires care.
Tumblr media
Hannigram and Stelena shippers wouldn't like the difference between Hannibal and TVD. But I'll put up this final parallel. The becoming.
Elena: You had hope. That's [all I ever wanted] you to have and you had it. Hannibal: This is [all I ever wanted] for you, Will. For both of us.
For those that want the difference... If hope was all Elena wanted Stefan to have, then he had it. He doesn't need to have her. The point of her death. She's Damon's girlfriend now. If this was all Hannibal wanted for Will, then he had it. Thus, he can die. Hannigram would essentially die as Stelena did. By Will actually dying or the two going their separate ways.
Obvious that becoming a vampire would allow Elena a better understanding of Damon, and just as much, push her through the fear of admitting her feelings for him. Thus, it's not just for her, it's for both of them.
Beauty of the Dark being used as the soundtrack for Damon and Stefan is interesting, considering. Hannibal and Will are cut between 1x4, the episode where they're building a family of brothers. Hannibal and Will aren't blood brothers, but that's essentially what they're selling. Hannibal and Will consider each other family because not all love is romantic. Hannibal and Will are like Damon and Enzo, and some TVD fans ship Damon and Enzo.
The finale of Hannibal would be like Elena trying to die on the bridge in 4x6, and taking Damon with her because they're both vampires. Both monsters.
