Today in the Department of Before They Were Star Trek Stars, DeForest Kelley guest stars in "The Honor of Cochise," episode 3 of the third season of Bonanza (original air date Oct 8, 1961).
Kelley plays Captain Moss Johnson, an Army officer who stumbles into the Cartwrights' camp claiming to be the sole survivor of a battle with the Apache. The Apache catch up with him, take Adam Cartwright prisoner, and demand Johnson be turned over in exchange for his release. When Ben Cartwright goes to parley with Cochise, the Apache leader, he is told that Johnson killed an entire Apache settlement - including women and children - with a "peace offering" of poisoned food.
Johnson claims he was following orders, but when his commanding officer arrives he is placed under arrest, which satisfies Cochise. The Army will neither confirm nor deny Johnson's claim, and we're left to wonder what the whole truth is.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves | The Legend Behind the Badge | Paramount+
Just finished watching this TV series, it was well made and seemed historically accurate for the first 5 or 6 episodes then it descends into pure fantasy. Good series with a very disappointing ending. Why cant they just tell the real story without fabricating total nonsense. It turned into an anti Lonesome Dove, with Texas Rangers being the bad guys.

Danny Phantom, The Show:
geeky kid gets super powers from his parents' weird inventions! now he has to fight a rogue gallery of ghosts... but uh-oh! he still has to keep his grades up, deal with his embarrassing parents, and navigate girl troubles! rap theme song!
Danny Phantom, the Fandom, After 19 Years of Fermentation:
a child dies. but not quite. the inherent tension between life and death. the obsession of the dead for faded remnants of the living. warped green shadows on the walls of a dark laboratory. having to hide your true nature from those who should be your greatest allies. the fear of the monster you could become if you let yourself. being a ghost as a metaphor for the trans experience. a cold breath on the back of your neck in the dead of the night. rap theme song!
#also wes is there#danny phantom#okay okay i'm exagerrating on both points obviously#it's been a LONG time since i watched the original tv show#but of course it had elements of these deeper themes and that's why the fandom's lasted so long#but it was a mid 2000s cartoon when serialised storytelling in western animation was still in its infancy#the fandom has spent a long time leaning into the story lines and themes that never would have flown then

you open yourself up to the devil by celebrating Halloween in the same way you open yourself up to the devil by celebrating St. Paddy's or Mardi Gras.
if you play ouija or try voodoo, you open yourself up to the devil. if you dress in a slutty costume or take psychedelics in a cemetery, you open yourself up to the devil.
likewise, if you get wasted on Guinness in downtown Savannah, you open yourself up to the devil.
if you twerk half-naked for plastic beads on Bourbon Street, you open yourself up to the devil.
these kinds of bacchanalia are by no means inherent to the holidays in question, and in fact, are extremely recent perversions of traditions which go back centuries. Centuries of Christian history.
#the notion that Halloween has pagan origins is a MYTH#spread by whiny witch losers who want to carve out some piece of Western culture for their degeneracy#the ex-witches and the ex-atheists who feel personal conviction about Halloween#feel it because they participated in that degeneracy#and for that reason they as individuals probably *should* stay away from Halloween BUT#most Halloween celebrators--particularly if they're cradle Christians--have NEVER experienced that version of Halloween#I certainly never ever have. and we had massive Halloween parties with all our friends. we even party-hopped once#and it was all entirely innocent#same goes for Mardi Gras#their decadence and salacity are the stuff of TV to me.#Halloween#x#Christianity

gotta say, theres something really weird about how online queer spaces pretend that intersex people dont exist. even american queer rights orgs seem to ignore us. and then i see kiwi sites on queer communities and theres comparatively a lot of intersex stuff. i go to a local nurses office and intersex people are included in a pamphlet on representation in books. every queer rights org has a link to to sites for intersex rights. am i crazy or is america falling behind? its quite... concerning
#intersex#queer#in the same train of thought#american media is strangely devoid of indigenous representation#for most of my life#the majority of media i have engaged in#is american#yet i didnt find any native american characters outside westerns#until i read heros of olympus#Piper is the only native american character ive ever seen#outside media set in the 1800s#compare that to media in aotearoa#where theres hakas on tv#just because thats part of aotearoa#not trying to brag#but america is falling behind

FRAT HOUSE ──── featuring tomura, touya, keigo.
about. attempted headcanons of the trio as frat boys. alcohol, cigarettes, girls mentioned. y'know, typical frat stuff.
notes. me and @angeliicheartt's new obsession apparently
.𖥔 ݁ TOMURA SHIGARAKI
the quiet one. first of all, tomura isn't that much of a party-guy. he's a gamer— almost stuck to his room and probably rotting in there for days up to weeks. regardless whether he's a gamer or not, he's known around as a frat. in fact, the president of the fraternity.
it's a shock to many because of how he appears in college outside the parties. his dull and saddening appearance. but really, when there's a party in his house, his leadership skills make it all worthwhile to the club and they were all nights you nor any other souls will ever forget.
tomura's an occasional smoker— he only does it at parties only. he's always influenced by either you or touya when you both edged him to try a few inhales and exhales. he's not too much of a drinker too, because he knows with just a few sips, and he's all dreamy and his cheeks are flushed red with the prominent evident of alcohol consumption.
.𖥔 ݁ TOUYA TODOROKI
everyone wonders why the president and assistant president of the frat club are so quiet. well touya just doesn't like to mingle around too much. he's always at the corner, watching everything unfold. a drink’s in his hand, either a cigarette in his other hand, or his phone.
let's not forget he'll realistically have a girl or two trying to get a feel of his skin so he will either have to play along for the fun of it or spew poison to their souls so they will leave him alone.
when touya does feel different and mingle around though, you'll see playing table games with other college boys. he comes in competitive, having the absolute want to win every single go-pong game. his patience might run thin though, but he'll always come and find you for a smoke or two outside tomura's house.
.𖥔 ݁ KEIGO TAKAMI
mr. party monster. the one and only man who provides the killer music of the party. somehow keigo’s the most excited for the party, even more than his two enthusiastic leaders of the club. well no matter, he's got a playlist stacked up for unforgettable nights anyways.
loves to have his hand on a woman's waist or hips. he'll only feel completed with a woman by his side, his fingers controlling the disc, or a drinking competition with touya. if anything, keigo's the averagely typical frat boy in any western movies or series. he takes pride in being known as the most popular boy of school.
likely to snap out of his party monster mood and suddenly grow bored at one tiny moment. so during that tiny moment, he spends it yapping with you on the couch, food in your laps as you both talk that moment away until his party mood slowly creeps back onto his skin. it's highly over for you, since he'd drag you along to dance with him to the music he chose. can you keep you with his blazing enthusiasm?

What I don't get is why news outlets and Netflix are trying to convince us that arcane was expensive to make. 250 million usd for both seasons they said, and obviously that's a lot of money, but they make the mistake of comparing it to big budget movies like Tangled. So you're telling me that I got an animated masterpiece that combines multiple different art styles fantastic voice acting and creative and passionate writing, that's 6-7 hours LONGER than major animated movies, and its the same fucking price?? And you're expecting me to agree with the corporations outlook, that it's too expensive? Yes, tangled is considered one of the most expensive animated movies, but arcane is like FOUR Tangleds. Many other 3D animated movies fall within the 160 million mark, but again, they're hours shorter than arcane was. I think the prices are comparable. I believe in saw someone (on reddit maybe?) divide the cost down to minutes of screen time for each show or movie and it becomes really obvious. I'm also pretty sure that many of these movie budgets do not include marketing in their overall expenses; arcane does.
This isnt even bringing live action tv shows into the equation; i dont think arcane even touches like the top thirty of those. And yet it's framed as such an expense!! Bitch its an incredibly successful tv show!! Ik Netflix is cheap as shit and has its own reputation to grapple with, but is the disdain for animation so much? Is it disdain for female lead action, for poc representation, for LGBT rep on screen? For the animation medium as a whole? I know the answer of course. But it's still very upsetting to acknowledge and think about.
Separately, arcane is absolutely crushing it. Ik act three is going to knock it out of the ballpark. Keep crushing corporate execs expectations please.
#if anyone knows a better reason i would like to hear it!#i like to believe the best about things#it lowkey might just be netflixes shitty taste in releasing tv shows and movies#but this one feels personal with beloved ans successful arcane is#arcane is just not an expensive tv show all things considered but thats the problem isnt it?? theyre only comparing it to animated costs#because they dont see animated as a real genre they can use for success#although COUNTLESS shows have proven otherwise. i dont get it#im glad arcane (and on the same note spiderverse) are paving the way for adult animated media thats not like fucking family guy#that has a beautiful plot and meaningful characters#obv theres anime but im talking about in the western sphere of things#love death and robots is also a very good example#arcane#budget#movies#caitvi#jayvik#arcane s2#my posts#text post
