The Truth is Out There

Looking into Plagiarism: Reunification and MrsFizzle-a case of Boy Meets World Plagiarism or not?

Many of the complaints I found on FFN’s community for reporting plagiarism are typical copy/paste/change names stories.

But let’s look at these two points: 1) That is, both imitation (or outright copying) and failure to be truthful about that imitation are necessary attributes to call it plagiarism. 2) it is the lie (of commission or omission) about sourcing that makes it plagiarism.

The story I was most curious about was this claim against a story written by MrsFizzle in the Boy Meets World fandom. I started to reach out to the author who made the claim, Mercedes Aria, to ask about the details she mentioned in her Author’s Notes. Then I read her Tumblr post, Why Am I Blocked: A Tumblr Ask Answered and decided not to.

This is a case that goes beyond plagiarism and into harassment big time.

I started to examine this case by reading the stories in question, however, it will take me some time to do that. While MrsFizzle’s story is relatively short, Mercedes Aria’s series is not. It’s extensive and according to what she’s said on her Tumblr and in ANs, the stolen works span the series. I finished MrsFizzle’s story and have only gotten started on Mercedes Aria’s main story. But the similarities are there and obvious.

Given the length of Autumn in Philadelphia, I’ve been taking breaks to investigate the public claims against MrsFizzle who also goes by Kaylie Night and, according to her FFN profile, is a published author. However, it’s hard to fully investigate the claims since Mercedes Aria, though highly active, is unwilling to share the document detailing her case against MrsFizzle. She says on Tumblr and Reddit that she has been approached by people claiming to want to help her then demand to see the link.

MrsFizzle, on the other hand, appears inactive across all her sites since at least September 2024 except for one site with the last activity being December 12, 2024. As of this writing (January 2025) even her author’s website does not work.

What I can look into raises a lot of questions.

Specifically, the comments she left on Mercedes Aria’s stories. You can look at these comments yourself on Autumn in Philadelphia and Flashbacks (on AO3). MrsFizzle was very into the story and the OC Mercedes Aria wrote, however she also seemed terribly upset that story did not go the way she wanted and proceeded to go into detail about it even though she admitted to not reading the summary or tags and that she shouldn’t leave the comment at all. Mercedes Aria seemed upset to have caused any distress (MrsFizzle claims in her comment that she “cried for three hours. Fell asleep, slept through the night, woke up crying again” over the story not turning out the way she wanted. MA seemed extremely sweet and sincere, and the exchange that went on for a while over a couple of chapters ended agreeably.

I checked MrsFizzle’s Boy Meets World stories and could not find any comments by Mercedes Aria. Because I already see similarities in her story Reunification with Autumn in Philadelphia, I read the comments Reunification had. The comments are what sparked my curiosity because they are so strange.

Has anyone asked about Old Photographs?

No one has! It's yours. XD

Even though Angela has only been mentioned in The Return a few times, I really do love her and always wished that her and Jon's time had overlapped on the show. I really wanted to bring her into the AiP world in the short stories, but I haven't yet written any that involve the main trio being split up.

Old Photographs would be the first to occur after the split as Shawn is pulling further away from Jon. However, rather than Shawn being the focus of the story it's Angela who's seeing a side of her boyfriend she's only heard whispers about from his friends.

The story, set in late season 5 before graduation, opens with Shawn asking Angela to get a book from his room for him. When she grabs the book from the nightstand a photograph falls to the floor. She picks it up and sees two people, a man and a woman, she doesn't recognize. She asks him about them, but he gets upset and won't talk about it.

She follows Shawn to his room. As he mopes on the bed, she begins to study the room and finds more things that make her curious: a snow globe with the Statue of Liberty and a box full of unopened letters.

She tries to get him to open up, but he can't get the words out.

Curiosity gets the better of her and she starts to investigate. Topanga helps the most and eventually Angela meets Jon whose since returned to teaching after the accident. Talking to him helps her understand Shawn better.

The ending is a flashforward set just before Angela meets Shawn again on Girl Meets World. Angela arrives at a brownstone in NYC hoping for some advice on meeting Shawn again. She's unaware that Jon and Audrey have been out of touch with Shawn longer than she has been.

Although I stick to the canon of BMW and GMW, Angela has a moment where she wonders how different life would have been if she had tried to get Shawn to talk to Jon. If Shawn could have repaired his relationship with his teacher then, would it have affected their relationship in a positive way? Would they have gotten married? Would Jon and Audrey be her in-laws?

None of her questions are answered. She only leaves with more.

October 1 - Travis is seen leaving Taylor's NYC apartment around 11am. Travis heads back to his hotel where the team is staying before his Chiefs vs Jets Game at MetLife Stadium

Taylor attends the Chiefs vs Jets game at MetLife Stadium, NJ, with Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Shawn Levy, Donna Kelce, Sophie Turner, Sabrina Carpenter, Brittany Mahomes, Melanie Nyema, Austin Swift & girlfriend Sydney Ness, Ashley Avignone, Robyn Lively, and more. The camera cut to Taylor approx. 17 times during the game and the Eras Tour film trailer played twice during ad breaks. Taylor was seen hugging Donna, saying "you're amazing, I don't know how you do it" when the score was 20-20. Taylor was also seen mimicking Travis. The NFL change their tiktok and twitter pages again to reference Taylor's attendance. BRIDGERTON II: nesse plot, eu gostaria de ser o gênero male e tenho como ideias de fcs boran kuzum, philip froissant e jonathan bailey. meu personagem seria o príncipe ou até mesmo rei e o universo é um pouco mais puxado para game of thrones, com uma pegada mais dark e com tradições e maldições. ele tem sua prometida, que é uma princesa, e os dois se odeiam. é outra relação de enemies to lovers, hehe.

SEMIDEUSES: sempre tentei colocar em prática uma ordem de semideuse que é nômade! minha personagem nunca foi fã de acampamentos e outros grupos mas, por uma magia maior que vem adormecendo semideuses até a morte, precisou se reclusar em um desses grupos. a ideia é que sejam de grupos diferentes ou até mesmo com ideais diferentes, um defendendo a comunidade e o outro a repartição (no caso, a minha).

JOGOS VORAZES: eu adoro e amo a lore de vitoriosos amantes. a ideia seria de que um foi mentor do outro no último jogo e agora são mentores juntos, cheios de raiva da capital. eu tenho preferência em jogar com a vitoriosa recente que ganhou graças ao patrocínio do mentor, e antes dos jogos, já haviam se envolvido e apaixonado, mas tudo ficou uma bagunça.

SPIDERVERSE: queria muito jogar gwen stacy x miles morales ou gwen stacy x peter parker. tenho a ideia de que ambos caíram em outro verso ou se encontraram depois de tudo de ruim que aconteceu no próprio universo deles, mas podemos combinar os detalhes!

GAMERS: um plot onde minha muse (tenho ideia de fc a kim jisoo) e seu/sua muse sejam de empresas rivais do mundo de games com direito a agressões verbais em entrevistas, fake news e tudo que há de ruim, chamando atenção e sendo os mais famosos não só pelo jogo mas pela polêmica. quando esse mundo desliga, são apenas eles com seus alias virtuais em um jogo pouco conhecido vivendo uma amizade/webnamoro sem saber suas reais identidades.

DEUSES: queria personagens inspirados em deuses com algum plot da minha tag! podemos escolher casais como perséfone e hades, por exemplo, ou só personificar. não teria magia ou influência direta (podemos combinar, talvez??), mas com essa inspiração central.

Well it sounds like MC will have to twist regardless… and that sucks cause honestly, none of the CA really tempted my MC. Like don’t get me wrong looks wise Shawn and Max look decent. But didn’t get any excitement from them. My MC slept alone twice lol. And then hearing this side story about Jin and Sienna chick…. Eh I’m not fussed. Jin is in love with MC ain’t not way his head was gonna turn, pretty he meant that she would have been a head turner for the other guys in the villa.

you know what would be good if one year they actually made casa really early and made whoever our OG guy is cheat on us and twist completely. Like so if you want Oakley, you have to start with Jin and make sure Oakley & Emel stay in the villa, for example. It would be absolute Chaos. The theories saying 'I heard a rumour that if you do X, Y, and Z they won't cheat' and then people frantically buying tickets and replaying to see if it's true MUAHAHAHAH.
