Oh well that's not really the Horace Knightley I fell immediately in love with in I2-1. While I think the localized dialogue is overall better and smoother, Knightley lost a lot of his previous personality and sounds more stricter than the free assholeish attitude he had in the first part of the case. A lot of remarkable lines full of personality that he had in the fan translation now sound blander. That's a shame.
His line just before the you-know-what funny thing that happens in the beginning of the case is straight up cringeworthy from how unnaturally long it is. "Hold your horses" is obviously peak writing though.

oooh wait so the plot hole of “why doesnt a spirit medium just channel the victims spirit” is literally bc the DL-6 spirit channeling cant be repeated huh
#im so fucking slow I was brushing my teeth thinking abt Gregory edgeworth in mayas clothes#and I haven’t played aa1 so I don’t actually know the details of it in case I get to play it for myself#but they brought up the spirit channeling mistake with misty and how it basically shot down the kurain techniques credibility right#and like. I guess trying to do that again would be a repeat of that incident which ended up with an innocent person being convicted#so Phoenix not only has to channel Mia because she’s the smarter better lawyer but also because summoning the victim#isnt exactly the first time it’s happened and gotten someone the guilty verdict. huh#replaying justice for all 2-4 so the case with Maya spirit channeling#and after playing aa3 I can really appreciate how much thought they put into the fey family and how a lot of the games events#revolve around it.#Mayas powers arent a ‘long lost ancestor’ as an excuse for her having powers. it is clearly and heavily expanded on#and the infighting makes so much sense when you consider the power differences between branch and main families.. and Mia becoming a lawyer#to find out what happened to her mother AND after being aware of that bloodshed and what it means for Maya#the way she chose Maya and didn’t want that for them. the way she put distance between them on purpose so they wouldn’t become like that#and Pearl is acknowledged as having more power than Maya but she’s fucking eight and loves Maya that she doesn’t see that as any#kind of power imbalance. heck when Morgan uses her for her plan in bridge to the turnabout Pearl was happy to do it#because Morgan said it was for pearls good and Pearl assumed that meant it would be good for Maya too and I 😭😭#the branch system was originally made so that even if you weren’t chosen as the master you could still support the family by protecting the#main branch. and the irony of that being the reason why main family members are targeted to be usurped#iris outright rejecting the notion of communicating to the dead and everything the fey clan stands for#there’s so much fucking lore to this and I don’t see it talked abt enough?????????!?????#yapping#ace attorney#as

ANON…. YOU REALLY HIT ME WITH THE MR. DARCY (2005)? FR?
God… this made me cry tbh. Good tears of course. To know that something I fret over as a weakness is actually something that is rejoiced is just… what a gift it is to hear that. Thank you, with all my heart 🥹💜

aai2 fantrans transcripts archive!
so i noticed that the aai2 fantrans transcripts are slowly but surely getting replaced with the official scripts...but i don't want the old ones to be lost to time!! thankfully, they're available via the wayback machine, but they're a bit convoluted to find, so i decided to compile them here for archival purposes! use wisely :)

The Rules Don't Apply to Lily
Lily has spent years crafting a public persona of a victimized underdog, someone who is constantly targeted by "stalkers," "reactionaries," and "drama channels" who have nothing better to do than obsess over her. She claims that every single controversy, every criticism, every bit of backlash she faces is a targeted harassment campaign designed to destroy her.
But despite all her claims of being harassed and playing fair, Lily has proven time and time again that she doesn’t actually believe in fairness.
When she breaks a rule? It’s “not a big deal.” When someone else does something she doesn’t like? It’s “harassment” and justifies retaliation.
And Lily lives for retaliation.
She doesn’t believe in turning the other cheek or ignoring criticism. She doesn’t believe in the high road. She believes in punishing those who criticize her in any way she can.
And if the rules get in her way? She ignores them.
The False Copyright Strikes: Abusing YouTube’s System for Revenge
One of the most blatant examples of Lily’s refusal to play fair was her decision to abuse YouTube’s copyright system to strike down critical videos made by Sai and Ant.
These videos were well within fair use—they were transformative, they were commentary-based, and they didn’t steal any of her content. But Lily doesn’t care about fair use. She cares about getting rid of people who criticize her.
She filed false DMCA claims, forcing both Sai and Ant to file counterclaims to dispute them.
And because of how YouTube’s system works, Lily now has their personal information—their emails and phone numbers.
What did Lily do with this information?
Instead of recognizing how invasive and dangerous this was, she openly pondered whether she should sign them up for spam, junk mail, and other nonsense to "make their emails unusable."
Lily has spent years claiming she is against harassment and doxxing. She has spent years painting herself as a victim of people trying to ruin her life. Yet here she was, holding onto the personal contact information of her critics, openly fantasizing about making their lives miserable.
And she doesn’t think this is wrong.
She thinks this is justice.
She has repeatedly justified her behavior by saying "turnabout is fair play." If she feels wronged, then anything she does is justified. There is no line she won’t cross if she believes it’s in retaliation.
And the YouTube copyright system? She saw it as a weapon. She used it not to protect her content, but to silence her critics.
And it backfired.
The Tumblr Ban: When the Rules Actually Applied to Her
Lily wasn’t banned from Tumblr because of mass reports from her critics. Lily was banned because she violated Tumblr’s terms of service.
Her offenses?
Telling a user to "go play in traffic"—a blatant violation of Tumblr’s harassment policies. This wasn’t even the first time she had used thinly veiled “kys” language. She frequently tells people to drink poison, jump into freezing water, get hit by a truck, and other roundabout ways of saying she wants them dead.
Ban evasion—for the fourth time. Lily has been banned from Tumblr multiple times before, and she keeps making new accounts, acting shocked every time she’s caught.
When one of her fans noticed her ban happened while she was livestreaming, they suggested that her critics "timed" it to happen live. As if Tumblr bans work on a villainous cartoon timer.
Instead of even considering that her own words got her banned, Lily immediately latched onto the idea that her critics were responsible.
And because Lily never takes the high road, she immediately encouraged her audience to mass-report Sai and Ant in retaliation.
Her own wife, Mikaila, hesitated. She asked, "Should we stop recording?" before they did this.
Lily said nah.
And then what did she do?
She cut out the segment of the stream where she encouraged mass reporting. She reuploaded the stream with that part removed.
She knew it was bad. She knew it made her look guilty. So she tried to rewrite history.
And then, when later confronted about it on BlueSky, she didn’t just defend herself. She outright lied.
Tumblr media
"Wow, none of that happened, you lying piece of shit."
Lily’s Pattern: Lies, Retaliation, and the Complete Lack of Accountability
Lily has a core belief: If she perceives herself as wronged, then she has free reign to retaliate in whatever way she sees fit.
If she breaks the rules? It’s no big deal.
If someone else breaks the rules? They deserve to be punished.
If she gets banned? It wasn’t because she violated the rules—it was because her critics were out to get her.
If she falsely copyright strikes someone? It wasn’t because she wanted to silence critics—it was because they deserved it for talking about her.
If she gets caught orchestrating a harassment campaign? It wasn’t because she was in the wrong—it was because turnabout is fair play.
Lily doesn’t just break the rules.
She expects to get away with it. She expects people to believe her lies. She expects to be seen as the victim no matter how much evidence exists to the contrary.
She doesn’t think ahead. She doesn’t plan long-term. She acts on impulse because she only cares about winning in the moment.
That’s why she contradicts herself constantly. That’s why she has to rewrite history so often. That’s why her “stalkers” archive everything she says—because it is a known pattern.
She thinks she’s untouchable. She thinks she’s above the rules. She thinks she can always twist the story in her favor.
And yet, time and time again, she proves that she can’t.

I don't think Apollo would be unaware of Klavier's flirtations.
He would pretend to be unaware but he's known since "first time I felt this way about a man." Pining unaware of each other's affections is NaruMitsu's thing.
Apollo thinks Klavier just wants to sleep with him but he's not "that kind of guy," and "Klavier isn't really in love with him". Apollo catches every double-entandre and complimentary remark when he starts hanging out with Klavier with Trucy but for some reason he doesn't want to give Klavier a solid rejection. Trucy constantly teases Apollo about them but it's true, he secretly enjoys it. Maybe Klavier isn't such a bad guy.
During turnabout serenade, Daryan recognizes Apollo as Klavier's latest project and gives him fair warning, confirming his worst suspicions. Klavier is a bit of a player, a serial flirter as much as he is a serial dater, jumping from girlfriend to girlfriend to boyfriend to girlfriend. As much Klavier rattles on about love, when he is asked commit to a relationship, he can't. Daryan speaks with an air of first hand experience.
But Klavier is earnestly in love with Apollo.
This entire time he's been afraid of commitment out of fear of making them the target of Kristoph's wrath. Now Kristoph is in prison, he's not scared anymore. Apollo is the first person Klavier has ever seen stand up to his brother. The rockstar really thinks Apollo is the most amazing person he's ever.
Klavier doesn't care what other people think about him being friends with a defense attorney. He'll help Apollo with cases he isn't prosecuting and befriend Trucy, Athena and any other friends Apollo has to get close to him and die inside every time Apollo brushes him aside. Klavier even stopped going on dates, he doesn't want anybody else. Not that Apollo knows any of this.
This is their stalemate, this is how they would pine.

(Basic context is that AU of Duel Desinties where the phantom impersonates Phoenix to get him found guilty of Clay's murder, I talk more under the cut abt it jkhlj)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-Basically meant to be a parallel to turnabout trump, cause if you can have ONE boss get found guilty of murder, why not a second one?
-OK basically: everything in DD happens normally until like- a day before clays murder, Phoenix gets yoinked by the phantom somehow (he is still alive, just being held captive), Phantom is still Fulbright, but they've decided to be silly goofy (target Phoenix and get him found guilty of murder, escape police custody and then murder phoenix and make it seem like Phoenix accidentally died while on the run, thats why they didn't kill phoenix right away unlike the real Fulbright) there is an imposter amo-
-I dont have the logistics as to how this affects solving Metis's murder, and how it effects what evidence is used n whatnot and turnabout for tomorrow as a whole, so im just going nuts HGJKHLJ
-Originally I was actually imagining this taking place during turnabout for tomorrow and I wanted that case to be apollo v klavier instead of phoenix and edgeworth and thats why klav is in here instead of Simon (I decided that Simon got badly injured and couldn't stand in court for the retrial, so klavier was asked to step in)
-The courtroom bombing still happens the same way it does normally, but Apollo decides to take up the case again instead of taking a leave, instead of like, you know, healing from the traumatic event that just happened, turnabout countdown still happens as well
-Apollo and Athena do not find out about the phantom's existence until well after this trial, so they have no idea that Phoenix could've possibly been replaced, though simon, after hearing about the trial, might be suspicious about whether or not that was the real Phoenix
-The Phantom had been not only keeping an eye on Simon for a while, but was also stalking Phoenix and Edgeworth after they both started looking into UR-1, so they were able to impersonate phoenix so well that not even his own daughter thought that anything was up (though while Trucy did find him a *little* bit off, but she figured that it might've been the bombing that caused him to act ever so slightly weird, so she didn't pay much mind to it until she heard about his confession in court and realized it might've been because he possibly, ya know, killed someone)
-it's pretty much just switching Athena being framed for murder with Phoenix, and instead of the trial ending on a cliffhanger, it continues on (probably with Klavier insisting on it) ending with soloman being found innocent and Phoenix being declared guilty
-There's a couple days inbetween the end of the cosmic turnabout and the start of turnabout for tomorrow, so Athena, Apollo and Trucy all get a little bit to process the fact that "oh god my boss/my dad killed someone" (simons execution date is pushed back a bit in this au) and they probably get to talk with Klavier and eventually a lil bit with Simon after he gets out
-Im not sure how it all winds down in turnabout for tomorrow (Phoenix escaping and being at large is basically the perfect cover for the phantom to resume being fulbright for that trial) but they do eventually realize that the phoenix who confessed wasn't the real one and now there's a search on going to find out where the real one is being held captive, hes fineeee just ready to take a week long nap and a good vacation (along with every other waa member)
-I dont have anything else to add on rn but if you want to add something or just throw in a scenario feel free to!! this idea has been bouncing around my head for like a month now and Im very happy to finally show yall it

All AAI2 official English character and case names rated based on whether I think they're better or worse than the fan translation equivalents:
Di-Jun Huang > Di-Jun Wang - It's the same.
Horace Knightley > Bronco Knight - Worse.
Ethan Rooke > Bastian Rook - Worse.
Nicole Swift > Tabby Lloyd - Much better.
Raymond Shields > Eddie Fender - Slightly worse.
Jay Elbird > Rocco Carcerato - Much better.
Simon Keyes > Simeon Saint - Slightly worse.
Sebastian Debeste > Eustace Winner - Sounds worse, fits better.
Justine Courtney > Verity Gavèlle - Much better.
Sirhan Dogen > Bodhidharma Kanis - Much better.
Patricia Roland > Fifi Laguarde - Much better, they've already done "patrol" twice.
Jeff Master > Samson Tangaroa - More unique, less punny. Not sure.
Katherine Hall > Judy Bound - Slightly worse because no food pun.
Isaac Dover > Artie Frost - References his nature as an artist, better.
Pierre Hoquet > Paul Halique - Same as Japanese name, no longer parrot.
Dane Gustavia > Carmelo Gusto - Worse, doesn't sound as awesome.
Delicia Scones > Delicia Scone - It's the same.
Karin Jenson > Florence Niedler - Much better. Florence Nightingale and needles.
Bonnie Young > Hilda Hertz - Better, because alliterative.
Jill Crane > Rosie Ringer - Better, alliterative. Different nursery rhyme.
Blaise Debeste > Excelsius Winner - The absolute Winner among these names. It's so pompous, contains "celsius" and "excel" and just sounds like he went to Oxford.
John Marsh > Shaun Fenn - It's the same. Shaun means John and fen means marsh.
Amy Marsh > Amelie Fenn - It's the same.
Dai-Long Lang > Da-Long Lang - It's the same.
Jack Cameron > Alf Aldown - Better, only because it's a Deid Mann tier awful name rather than a boring realistic name.
Turnabout Target > Turnabout Trigger - Better, sounds more like a presidential assassination attempt.
The Imprisoned Turnabout > The Captive Turnabout - Better, less long-winded.
The Inherited Turnabout > Turnabout Legacy - Better for same reason as above.
The Forgotten Turnabout > A Turnabout Forsaken - Sounds more pretentious, but probably better because less confusion with The Lost Turnabout, where Phoenix forgets.
The Grand Turnabout > Turnabout for the Ages - Worse, I think. It sounds cooler, but doesn't have any chess connotations. They should have called it "The Grandmaster's Turnabout" or "Turnabout Checkmate", I think.
Also, have updated case cards to help you get used to the new names.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
EDIT;
Some extra things:
* iFly Airlines in AAI1 has been reverted to its Japanese name of "GoYou". This was probably done because iFly is the name of a real Russian airline with global sanctions against it since 2022.
* As a result, Hugo Ifly is now Ugo Hughes and the tanuki called Mr. Ifly is now Captain Ugo.
* Moozilla is now Taurusaurus, which I think is a better name.
* The Grand Tower is now the Bigg Building, suggesting that Big is not merely its size, but a Mr. Bigg is its proprietor.
* The Zodiac Hall galleries are now referred to as seasonal "Wings" rather than "Palaces". Makes more sense.
* Edgeworth Law Offices is now referred to as Edgeworth and Co. Law Offices, the Co. being Eddie Fender (aka Ray Shields). Again, makes more sense.
* Rocky the bear is now Teddy, since his owner is now already Rocco as a Rocky reference.
* Anubis the hunting dog is now Helmut, a lame pun on "hell mutt".
* Astique the elephant is now Azea, like an "Asian" elephant.
* Ally the alligator is still the same. Regina Berry is not very good at naming animals.

Thinking abt uendo toneido and man they rlly did a good job making all the alters feel like different people. Usually they're treated more like 'personalities' or aspects of a broader personality but the storyteller system rlly does function as a group of distinct people.
Particularly theres a moment where blackquill targets patches in particular as a weak link and badgers him into exercising his right to remain silent (and thus implicating the system's guilt) and as soon as blackquill says as much, kisegawa fronts to go 'NOPE proof of nothing, you went for patches because he flusters easily and if you get him worked up he's gonna want to stay silent' and blackquill goes '. Can I talk to patches again' and he fronts for a sec before kisegawa comes back like 'NOPE you're getting me' and like. It feels like a group of people who know each other well and each have flaws and strengths and they work together to cover each other!
Like a lot of the time when u see systems, their members tend to be in conflict for #drama, and I get it but like. The storyteller system are just a group that work together and mask as a singlet and literally bcos their members work so well together it enhances their rakugo performances! Augh. Turnabout storyteller my beloved
Hang on check out this awesome gif I just found on tumblr search

[ID: a gif of Kisegawa from Ace Attorney on the transgender flag, with flaming text pointing at her which reads, "Canon tramsgender."]
