Free for a Limited Time: A Course for Writers!
I’m thrilled to announce that "Playwriting Mastery: From Idea to Story," a course I co-created, is available for free right now!
This course was designed for playwrights, but it’s truly universal—perfect for anyone who loves storytelling. Whether you’re crafting plays, novels, scripts, or something entirely different, these lessons will help you discover ideas, develop them, and shape them into powerful stories.
📖 What’s in the course?
Finding the central theme of your story—the heart of what you want to say.
Turning that theme into a meaningful message.
Exploring conflict to create dynamic, compelling stories.
Generating and refining ideas until they truly shine.
Choosing the right genre to elevate your vision.
Understanding conflict on a deeper level.
Taking your idea and shaping it into a clear, pitch-ready story.
This course is a labor of love, and I’m so excited to share it with you. For a limited time, it’s completely free—because I believe storytelling should be accessible to everyone.
📍 Find all the details on my Patreon page (Link in pinned post).
If you’re a writer looking for inspiration or clarity, I hope this course can help you bring your unique stories to life. Let’s create together. 💡✨

I'm rereading Master and Commander and I'm deeply in danger of just posting every single passage from it ever but I did love the way that the capture of the prize in Chapter 6 was framed on either side by the logbook's entry, and also the way he transitions out of it to set the scene and tone:
Sunday, July 1 … Mustered the ship’s company by divisions read the Articles of War performed Divine Service and committed the body of Henry Gouges to the deep. At noon dº weather. Ditto weather: but the sun sank towards a livid, purple, tumescent cloud-bank piled deep on the western horizon, and it was clear to every seaman aboard that it was not going to remain ditto much longer. The seamen, sprawling abroad on the fo’c’sle and combing out their long hair or plaiting it up again for one another, kindly explained to the landmen that this long swell from the south and east, this strange sticky heat that came both from the sky and the glassy surface of the heaving sea, and this horribly threatening appearance of the sun, meant that there was to be a coming dissolution of all natural bonds, an apocalyptic upheaval, a right dirty night ahead. The sailormen had plenty of time to depress their hearers, already low in their spirits because of the unnatural death of Henry Gouges (had said, ‘Ha, ha, mates, I am fifty years old this day. Oh dear,’ and had died sitting there, still holding his untasted grog) – they had plenty of time, for this was Sunday afternoon, when in the course of nature the fo’c’sle was covered with sailors at their ease, their pigtails undone. Some of the more gifted had queues they could tuck into their belts; and now that these ornaments were loosened and combed out, lank when still wet, or bushy when dry and as yet ungreased, they gave their owners a strangely awful and foreboding look, like oracles; which added to the landmen’s uneasiness.
[...]
Jack leant back against the curved run of the stern-window and let Killick’s version of coffee down by gulps into his grateful stomach; and at the same time that its warmth spread through him, so there ran a lively tide of settled, pure, unfevered happiness – a happiness that another commander (remembering his own first prize) might have discerned from the log-entry, although it was not specifically mentioned there: 1/2 past 10 tacked, 11 in courses, reefed topsail. AM cloudy and rain. 1/2 past 4 chase observed E by S, distance 1/2 mile. Bore up and took possession of dº, which proved to be L’Aimable Louise, French polacre laden with corn and general merchandise for Cette, of about 200 tons, 6 guns and 19 men. Sent her with an officer and eight men to Mahon.
#also it's interesting the way that he discusses the death of the loblolly boy here but always in diffuse contexts#and then that ends up tying in with the sin-eater becoming the new loblolly boy but it all flows very naturally and unassumingly#and the way he comments on the limitations but significance of the logbook for storytelling...interesting stuff#like at the beginning of this he's like it talks about opening a cask of beef and the death of the loblolly boy and the first prize capture#in the exact same dispassionate tone#but then he ends it with this - the fact that to a professional eye there's a hidden joy in that dispassionate tone#(and that's just what he's spent the last x pages uncovering)#interesting commentary on and use of 'primary sources'. interesting historiographical commentary happening there#idk i digress. i also liked that he pointed out the death of the loblolly boy in conjunction with that one poster here#who noticed that in the ship's muster the only death is the lieutenant which is a fun bit of foreshadowing#i wonder if this was meant as a signpost to be like actually you SHOULD pay attention to these details i will make them significant :)#i love his writing so so much there's so much to uncover and also so much to learn from him i feel like#lots of neat little tricks and of course no one compares in setting the tone with scenery#perce rambles#aubreyad#The Creative Endeavor and other aubreyad nonsense#as one of my professors the other day said (not about this book but i think it applies):#'this is the sort of book where if you're not careful you'll end up highlighting* the whole thing'#* - replace 'highlight' with 'post on tumblr'#glad i'm rereading it slowly it really rewards it#can't wait to get to post captain and hms surprise and give them the same time and thought

I combined footage from my Detektiv Conan Blu-ray with audio from my Case Closed FUNimation DVD and made an HD English dub clip compilation for Episodes 57-58, "The Holmes Freak Murder Case."
#detective conan#case closed#video#funimation english dub script#i wasn't actually gonna post this video to tumblr because it's so long (because i have a lot of feelings about this case!)#but folks on discord liked it and i'm all about my funi dub propaganda so why not right?#the dub script here is just so fun--and does so well at making the dialogue *work* and sound natural in english#and has so much flavor! it does arguably too much in terms of creative liberties but things like#'can i really trust what a kid saw?' of the sub translation compared to 'and what were you smoking before you ran out there?' in the dub#are much more enjoyable to me#(other fun phrasings: 'the one who's always hangin' around you guys' (sub) vs. 'the little-bitty one with the great big brain!' (dub))#(and 'of course not! the reason i applied for this tour was 'cuz i thought i might find kudo' (sub))#(vs. 'who me? no no no. actually i signed up because i was hoping to run into jimmy here. but i guess i'm out of luck' (dub))#(and so many more! this script just has so much character)#and while it is a shame that the dub eliminated heiji's accent i do like the changed line ('i know it's you!')#'cause you've met shinichi *once* heiji lol#but yeah this is a fun case! i'm really happy to have finally hd'd the funi dub for it :')#one of my favorite things about the funi dub is that jerry jewell (shinichi's va) voices conan's thoughts#and it's so nice to hear *shinichi* and heiji deducting together (and the way they finish each other's thoughts and vibe... it gets to me)

i think something that people miss about the "you should be reblogging creative work, not just liking it" stuff is that so many people who arent making these creative works are so in the mindset of QUANTITY of notes over QUALITY of notes.
maybe this is in part because of other social media (like instagram, twitter, and youtube) where the creator is rewarded based on the quantity of likes, but y'all have to understand that us tumblr creators, for the most part, do not care about the quantity of notes. yes, it's nice to know that 700 people liked a gifset we made! but it's disheartening to see that only, like, 5 people reblogged it onto their blog so other people could see it and enjoy it too. part of tumblr as a SOCIAL media is that we are meant to interact with each other here, and if you only like stuff, you're limiting the social aspect of a wide platform of users.
fic writers want to see your comments about how they wrote that one scene. fanartists want you to get excited about the way they draw your favorite characters. gifsets like what we have here on tumblr don't exist like this anywhere else. why don't you want to show these creators off to your friends and followers? don't you want to show off how cool these creations and their creators are?
reblog from us now so you're not begging for us to come back to you later.

Writing Prompts when you have writers block
So I don’t USUALLY do this, but since Tumblr’s writer-friendly, I thought I’d share some writing prompts I got from my Creative Writing class in college last semester! My professor would give us a handful of prompts and tell us to pick one for every assignment and I wanna give them to you all!
Write a list story: either someone teaching someone else how to do something/how to be someone/something (ex: how to act like a proper lady). Alternatively it could be a character listing aspirations, milestones, or losses/gains. Anything where your character is going through something
Going off on that list story idea, you could also write a response list story from the POV of the “you” from the first one. For example: say you wrote a story of a parent speaking to a child, the response would be a child speaking to a parent
Write a story where one character is closely observing/spying another character. What do they discover about either the other character or themselves in the process?
Dunno if any of you read the story “Hills like White Elephants” but write a story told mostly through dialogue and setting. Two character discussing something they don’t agree on. Whether or not a solution is reached is up to you
Here’s a funny idea: A story about a ghost/demon possessing somebody but it hilariously backfires cuz the mortal is either really stupid or really stubborn and they have this back-and-forth of what happens next. You know that one vine where it’s like
“What do you want to eat?”
“The souls of the innocent~”
“A bagel :)”
“NO!”
“….Two bagels”
Write the story version of that
Write a story where an object causes/is related to a major tension in your story or holds a major clue to the tension
Your character makes a decision and has to live with the consequences/learns a lesson
Write a story where an unexpected guest shows up and stays overnight. How does it go? Start by saying who’s coming, offer backfill to explain the background regarding the tension, then what happens when the guest arrives. How the story progresses, ends, and whether something changes is up to you!
Write a character where your main character is dealing with an external AND internal conflict. Something in their environment, community, or society is pushing them to experience stress. What’s the tipping point and how does the character deal with it
For example, a snake character experiencing racism from humans/animals just because of their species
Write a story loosely based on a true crime story. Any crime, doesn’t even have to be murder. You could even search a crime up on the internet and make a story inspired on that. Use a few details from that crime article to create a scene of action of the crime taking place, but also develop the motive and backstory. What drove the person to do what they did? Peer pressure? Greed? Abuse? Survival? Sheer stupidity? Etc
Write a story from the perspective of a ghost. Who’s the ghost haunting? Why? How’d they die? Is the ghost friendly or malevolent?

This must be my shortest comeback ever as a fanfic writer
Fist episode of a show I've waited "years" for finally aired yesterday. Episode one was great and let me tell you it gave me inspiration and motivation to write. I was so excited, buzzing with energy and bursting with ideas. This thing darn broke me out of my writing hiatus is the shortest time ever😃🙌
Until...😒 I jotted down a few lines for each of the three ideas in my head. By few lines I mean maybe 4 each but just that alone I felt like my sanity was exiting my body. 45 minutes later, I'm back on hiatus😅 yep that's the writing we all love. The mood is one fickle b***h. Until next time when the mood strikes again on 29th February🙄✌️

I've recently moved from the city to the country with my family and want to write a memoirs based on my experiences with nature. Do you have any tips on nature writing? I don't want to write fiction, but i'm not sure how to make non-fiction interesting.
We've actually got a great series of resources in the Reading Room on all types of non-fiction writing, created for us by a commissioning editor from Penguin Random House! Here's the one specifically on nature writing:
The entire series is well worth reading, and she also created a completely free non-fiction book proposal course for us too, which will teach you what a book proposal needs to include for you to best pitch to publishers.

The hero coughs into the dust saturating the air. This is wrong.
The old warehouse, it’s– it’s gone. Crumpled in on itself like a can that’s been stamped on one too many times. It’s all wrong. It’s all too familiar.
A warehouse went down last month in the fallout of a fight. Someone had been inside. No matter how much he hated the villain, she didn’t deserve to die like that. The hero still has nightmares about it; it haunts him.
But this. It’s like he’s standing outside that warehouse again, watching the aftermath of one wrong hit—watching the one person who gave him purpose disappear into debris.
This was recent. The dust is scratching at the hero’s throat. He coughs again, the air visibly wavering in front of his face.
“It brings back fond memories, doesn’t it?”
The hero flinches, not convinced he heard who he thinks he did. The villain’s voice has been in his head since then anyway. Telling him of everything he did wrong. This is just one of those horrible moments of weakness.
“I must say, you made a valiant attempt to erase me from the face of this earth.” There’s an echoing click of heels against concrete. The hero’s heart stops. “Doesn’t this remind you of that moment when you failed?”
“I’m– I’m so sorry—” He chokes on the words desperately. An apathetic hum rings in his ears.
“Ah, you’re sorry!” the villain coos softly. “Sorry for what? For trying, or for failing?”
There’s a shadow sauntering through the dust towards him like a ghost, the hero’s face paling as she steps through the fog. The villain throws him a cat-like grin that turns his insides cold.
“Oh, you poor darling,” she says with false softness. “It’ll take a little more than that to stop me.”

Starting My Journey Into Occultism and Building My Grimoire 🌙📖
Tumblr media
So, I’m diving headfirst into occultism philosophy—taking this journey seriously—and yep, I’m in the middle of building my own grimoire.
We’re talking hermetic principles, tarot symbolism, alchemical rituals—the real juicy occult stuff.
As I dig into esoteric teachings, practice rituals, and write down my thoughts in Tarot Symbols and Alchemical Journals, this grimoire is gonna be my very own living mystical document. It’ll hold my research, spellwork, tarot interpretations, and all the weird, wild realizations that come with diving into ancient symbols and unlocking those meanings.
I’ll be sharing some of the mess and magic as I go, so if occult philosophy or building your own grimoire has been calling you—stick around.
I’m in for a wild ride. ✨
