Joe Mills reprises his role from the CGI series as Douglas in The Unlucky Tug's lastest episode of "Sodor's Finest," featuring the Scottish Twins!

I don't usually watch too much of Unlucky Tug's content, but there's some amazing voice acting in the cutscenes for this, so I highly recommend checking this out!

If you absolutely had to add one CGI character to the NWR in the RWS, which one would it be?

So, I had an absolutely massive great big long thing planned out to explain just how hard this would be to answer, and then I remembered Glynn and Stephen.

These two are actually amazing as characters, and avoid so many of the pitfalls the other CGI characters have (like... having an actual identifiable character beyond 'nice'). And that's without mentioning just how fun they are when paired together! Better yet, because Glynn is based in the RWS, I can just say Stephen!

These two really do break the typical CGI mould of characters, particularly through the fact that they are different and memorable. No one remembers Stafford or Scruff, but we do remember Stephen telling Connor (I think it was Connor) about life in the early days and having the guts in a CGI episode to explicitly say that steam engines exploded. I miss episodes where engines could talk about darker topics. Stephen and Glynn both feel like more classic characters than they are - like what Duke could have become if he got a bigger role in the series.

Glynn and Stephen are honestly iconic, both apart and together. I'd have loved to see more of them interacting with each other and others. And RWS/classic era Glynn and Stephen would have been absolute savages, reading the other engines to filth.

Ha, okay so you're RIGHT that this is definitely meant to be part of the Edward send-off package:

It's a nice touch — but I think I omitted it in my post because I do have mixed feelings about the entire Albert flashback. It's too Thomas callback. Even for me, who loves callbacks and loves defending Christopher Awdry, that whole Thomas-and-the-snowplough retread was cringe.

That said, yes, Edward's reminisce-y reaction to it was on-point.

Christopher writes Thomas and Edward's relationship super well. The two actually only interact that one time in the Wilbert portion of the series. And the do-you-want-to-take-my-trucks-tomorrow scene was almost certainly written before Wilbert had come up with their backstories. C. Awdry just does a wonderful job extrapolating on their shared history.

So a 2013 character bible just leaked on Twitter(unsure if it’s made it’s way here yet?) and a ton of characters have additional info in it. Most notably is that Norman and Paxton were sent to Sodor together, and Sidney just.. wandered onto the Steamship delievering them and never left.

I'm gonna say it because it needs to be said: Oliver's prop resembles his basis better than his CGI model.

For some reason, i came up with this idea for a joke infection au where the infection in question turns the cgi versions of the ttte characters into their model series counterparts.

Like, their faces start moving less and less except for their eyes, and then they just completely freeze up into a random face that expresses their feelings. Then the engines just lose their voices, only to have this random narrator's voice just speak for them.

As for behaviour, they'd be more or less the same. The change is mostly physical. Idk, this idea just seemed funny to me. I'd love to see someone do that.

Happy Douglas Day (+ Toad)

Happy Douglas Day everyone!

When I decided to do group pictures for every month's characters, it occurred to me that October, November, and December wouldn't have an equivalent SR or TUGS character to include.

So, instead of giving Douglas a solo picture for his day, I drew him with his (RWS canon) break van, Toad.

For those who haven't read the series as written by Awdry or have forgotten, Toad volunteered to become Douglas's brake van in gratitude after he, Isabel, and Oliver were rescued. There is evidence of this in season three of TTTE, as in Toad Stands By, Toad asks permission - and is granted it - for Douglas to let him stay in the yard to help Oliver.

I like Toad in the CGI series, but I was a little disappointed to find him back with Oliver. You could argue that Douglas may have 'released Toad from his "debt" at that point, but I think Toad would likely have stayed with him and the rest of the Arlesbrugh engines rather than latching back onto Oliver. Let's face it, Douglas's relationship with the other Sudrian brake vans isn't going to be the healthiest after he straight-up murdered one (with a smile on his face if you believe the show) when he first arrived, so Toad was probably a dream come true for all concerned.

Oliver won't be alone in November - he didn't escape with just Toad in the books - so Douglas shouldn't be either.
