Nominate Merely Roleplayers in the CRIT Awards 2024
The Creator Recognition in Tabletop RPG Awards are open for nominations until the end of May, and lots of our stuff from the past year is eligible!
You all got us to the final ballot in 2 categories last year – thank you again, it was incredible to hear the words "Merely Roleplayers" read out alongside so many luminaries of roleplaying and storytelling!
Could we make it 3 this year?
Could we even make it to a win??
At this nomination stage, you're free to nominate whoever and whatever you like in each category. It's free choice, not multiple choice. Then people/things with enough nominations get put on the final ballot for everyone to check out and vote on.
Most of the categories ask for a link or social media handle to help the CRIT team vet nominations. Plus, I know from filling out my own nominations how hard it can sometimes be to work out what actually falls within the eligibility period (which this year is 1 Jan 2023–29 Feb 2024 – RPG vendors please put the publication date on the game's page!!).
So here's a handy list of what we've done that came out in that period, the categories you could nominate them in, and the relevant links and handles:
Best of Actual Plays
Best Series
Vigil: The Great Fire https://foggyoutline.com/roleplayers-episodes/category/The+Great+Fire
Vigil: Chief/Exec https://foggyoutline.com/roleplayers-episodes/category/Chief%2FExec

The Queen's Dead https://foggyoutline.com/roleplayers-episodes/category/The+Queen%27s+Dead
The Office Party https://foggyoutline.com/roleplayers-episodes/category/Office+Party
Best NPC
Any and all NPCs from the above 6 productions, including 2023 nominee Ernest Bering, Agent of DoOm...
It's up to you to decide, based on his actions in Vigil: Fear Itself, whether oor Ernie belongs in this category or in:
Best Villain
Any and all villains from the above 6 productions, including Ada Lovelace (Great Fire), Max Dashwood (Chief/Exec), Morrigan the War Chieftain (Chief/Exec), the Harlequin (Fear Itself) and (possibly, as above) Ernest Bering, Agent of DoOm.

Guess who totally forgot about the crit awards? Me!
And no.inations are still open (I think). So that.
The Crit Awards 2024
I just learned about these today! I'm eligible for some homebrew awards. It'd be nice to be nominated for Best Homebrew and Best Supplement, and I have a few things that could qualify (more on that later).
More than my own nominations, however, I just really want people to look at the categories and just think about who you could nominate. Everyone only gets 1 nomination per category and there are restrictions on what's eligible (public work, not big company like crit role or dropout, no AI, shared between last jan and this feb, etc.). And I know there's a lot of good categories and candidates for them.
You can find the categories for this years awards here: Crit Awards Categories.
Please, if you see a category and think of an eligible contender fill out the nomination form. It's pretty quick and you can skip categories you can't think of anyone for.
(personally I like Crest Saga for the Indie TTRPG and multiplayer TTRG categories, but don't tell anyone I said that)
My own eligibility below the cut.
As for my own works in the homebrew categories, the following are eligible:
Re:Alignment (for homebrew supplement/3rd party content)
Routine Passives (for homebrew supplement/3rd party content)
Psionics: Spellcasting & Specialties (This one could honestly go either way, it has subclasses, spells, and variant feature rules. It's an all in one supplement. This is the one I'd prefer to be nominated in this category or both.)
Grimdark Puzzles (for supplement, sadly Grimdark & Dangerous itself is not eligible)
Druid: Circle of the Glade (for supplement, technically?)
Encounter With: The Pale Widow (for monster)
Figher: Blade Drifter (for supplement)
Sorcerer: Vampiric Bloodline (for supplement)
Barbarian: Path of Possession (For supplement)
Druid: Circle of Bones (for supplement)
Artificer: Necrocrafter (for supplement)
Bard: College of Partying (for supplement)
Mancatcher (for best homebrew spell, monster, or item)
Restless Hunger (for homebrew spell, monster, or item)
Wax Wings (for homebrew spell, monster, or item)
Suspender of Disbelief (for homebrew spell, monster, or item—this is the standalone item I am most proud of if I'm being honest)
There is more, but it's more niche and behind a minimal paywall (granted some of the above is also behind a paywall). You can find these by following this link and sorting by date.

✨ crit awards ✨
so, as some of you may know, the crit awards, an open-voting ttrpg award show, has just opened nominations!!
from now until april 30th, there are open submissions to nominate games and creators, and then for all of june, people vote on who they want to be the winners
i have a decent number of games that are eligible for nomination this year! you're not allowed to nominate yourself, though, which is why i must humbly request that if yall really like any of these games in particular, to fill out the nomination form so that i might have a chance at some awards :)
categories i'm eligible for ...
best solo game
i have quite a few for this one!!
with breath & sword - a game where you utilize real grounding & breathing techniques as the oracle to fight monsters while calming down from anxiety attacks
the narrator paradox - a one-page game where you play a narrator trying to wrangle your defiant protagonist back into the story
the graveyard game - a for truth's sake game where you write an ethnography about a magical, haunted graveyard
you are thinking about silver - an autofiction lyric game about my family being werewolves during a childhood memory
song a scene - a playlist-driven writing game that fits on a bookmark
she shall not be raised a fey - a bookmark game about revisiting your changeling child
best one page game
i have a couple of these too!!
the narrator paradox - (see above)
also my three horseshoe system games!! this is a system designed for quick & evocative but medium crunch character creation (at least for a one-pager), fast paced and twisty one shots, and big endings!! i also really like the graphic design in them :)
interstate 10 1/2 - a light horror Weird roadtrip across america
the pyrite bullet - a spaghetti western one last mission game
crescent grin - an eldritch horror noir detective game
best GMless game
small towns, BIG SECRETS - a 200 word game for the minimalist jam about your horrible secret being revealed to your fellow townies, run on competitive coin flips
best supplement
how high! - a system agnostic setting zine of a rapidly developing fantasy industrial city ruled over by a pack of wolf gods descending into madness (ie what if 1880s denver, colorado was real fucked up)
you can submit nominations here until april 30th!!
being nominated would be super cool :D if anyone wants to nominate some of my games i super appreciate you!!!
also, if you haven't gotten a chance to check them out before - these games are on sale rn!!

We are endlessly proud and honored to share that The Chaos Protocol has won the 2024 Audio Fiction World Cup.
As a team made entirely of transgender queer folks, almost all of whom are people of color, this award means the world — and it came from the world.
Our Journey™️ in this space has been incredible — but it hasn’t been easy.
Connie is our bastion against the constant stream of hate comments, vitriolic video essays, and microaggressions that are thrown our way every year. This space has come a long way, but it’s hard to see the light sometimes.
Awards aren’t the epitome of APs. In fact, we struggle with these contests — the exclusionary fees, overwhelming whiteness of the craft, and lack of accessible information. We actually missed deadlines ourselves this year. 😅
It was our first rodeo in the webfest circuit — and it sure felt like one!
The point of our art isn’t to win awards or get good reviews or thousands of viewers. We make art because we must. It’s who we are.
But it feels incredible to be recognized for the love, labor, and time we’ve poured into this, especially when our voices have historically been pushed to the margins.
The Chaos Protocol imagines the worlds we want to see; complicated, beautiful, vicious worlds full of complicated, beautiful, vicious people.
We sing in our grief — and we find hope in a starless sky.
Thank you. 🌸
#All we’re gonna say is that this space remains overwhelmingly white and male#So it’s really really nice to get this kind of recognition#even if we have mixed feelings about the concept of award shows and web fests in the first place#anyway. thank you all for watching our show and listening to our podcast. it truly truly means the world.#happy new year!!!#ttrpg#actual play#audio fiction

The ENNIES allowing AI generated content to be submitted for awards feels like such an easily avoided own-goal/shot in the foot that I’m now wondering what weird AI investor bro on their Board or with their sponsors was able to bully them into it.
#also why is the entire panel of judges white?#ennies#ttrpgs#table top games#this used to be one of those awards with pretty solid reputation and prestige#but I guess they just threw that out the window#seriously though WHAT is the benefit of allowing generative AI in a creative competition??

THE STORY SO FAR: It has been years since the end of the Galactic Civil War. The New Republic struggles to rebuild the galaxy after decades of Imperial rule, locked in a cold war with the remnant Pentastar Alignment. All the while, in the dark corners of the galaxy, organized crime groups compete with each other to gain power in the galactic underworld after the collapse of the Hutt Cartel. Now, the crew of the transport ship the Rambler have been thrust into this gritty, cutthroat world...
LAST TIME: A month passed after the crew of the Rambler cleared their bounties with Black Sun. Cait continued to get updates on her supposed brother attempting to contact her, with new information revealing the call had actually come from Imperial-occupied Yaga Minor. Meanwhile, Ced, Bhuri, Janica, and Hank went fishing, with Bhuri once again escalating matters into a physical wrestle with a ten-foot lake fish.
As the month ended, Janica, still unsettled after her encounter with Durga the Hutt, managed to open the blue cube Val had stolen from Black Sun, revealing it to be a holocron belonging to the ancient Jedi Master known as Booster. Booster confirmed that Janica was strong in the Force, and offered to teach her the ways of the Jedi, an offer which Janica accepted after some hesitation. She attempted to meditate and open herself to the Force, only to be ripped from her relaxation by the mysterious figure who had contacted her once before in her dreams.
Before Janica could process these developments, the crew was given their next assignment by the Republic: smuggling weapons and equipment to the local resistance on Ord Mantell, led by Janica's old friend and local saloon owner Chodo Kantum.
En route to Ord Mantell, the Rambler was ripped out of hyperspace to avoid colliding with a derelict cruise liner. Boarding the liner, the crew were assaulted by a horrific stench, as the ship was filled to the brim with thousands of mutilated corpses. The crew made their way to the bridge, where they were met by the figure from Janica's dreams, who introduced himself as a Sith named Tenlos and tempted Janica to join him. The crew were narrowly able to escape after Tenlos flew into a rage, and returned to their original heading. Janica spoke with Master Booster, who confirmed that Tenlos was a Sith from his time whom he had once faced in battle. He urged Janica to continue her training, and entreated Bhuri to protect her. Meanwhile, Ced sat in the ship's lounge, rattled from the encounter, as Cait learned more about the Imperials who seemed set on luring her into a trap.
The crew of the Rambler arrived on Ord Mantell, landing in the capital of Worlport and delivering their shipment to the Last Chance Saloon. The crew met with Chodo, who arranged a meeting with the other resistance leaders and explained their plan to bring the fight to the Imperial occupation, a plan which the crew readily agreed to join...

Nominations for The CRiT Awards opened today! For those who aren't familiar, The CRiT Awards are a peer-driven TTRPG awards show where creators can nominate each other to be recognized for their work in the TTRPG space.
For those of you deciding who you’d like to nominate for each category, I hope you’ll consider nominating me for the category of Best Game Master | Indie.
During the eligible period I GM’d two seasons of Monsterhearts: Freshman Year for Girls Run These Worlds and 6 indie one-shots on my own channel. I also facilitated 7 GMless indie games and Shall We? a Wanderhome limited series. (GMing and Facilitating are very much not the same thing, but I want to highlight the number of indie TTRPG shows I've produced/facilitated as well as GM'd.)
In 2023, I started the Incredibly Indie series on RollForFelicity, which is a series specifically intended to get more eyes on games with few (if any) examples of play. I consider myself a huge supporter of indie TTRPGs.
Not only do I increase the visibility of indie TTRPGs, but I’m also very good at running them. I get to the heart of the mechanics and lean into the stories and moments each game is hoping to achieve. When I run a game, I try to run it as the quintessential example of what THAT game can be.
I have a deep love for indie TTRPGs, but more than that, I think I’m really fucking good at running them. So if you’ve enjoyed any of the series or one-shots I’ve GM’d, I hope you’ll consider nominating me for Best Game Master | Indie.

Who is Ernie Bering?
Our Ernie is a finalist in the Best NPC category in this year's CRIT Awards, so let's have a quick rundown of who the man is.
If you already know, you can cast your vote for Ernie (and for Merely Roleplayers for Best Storyline!) at the CRIT Awards site:
Ernest 'Ernie' Bering is a craggy, barrel-chested man usually seen in a nondescript grey suit, cut to conceal a shoulder holster. In a visual medium, he would be played by Tommy Lee Jones, but voiced by Ray Winstone.
In our show, he's voiced by Matt Boothman. Matt and Chris Starkey came up with the character and Ellie Pitkin came up with his name.
Ernie is a career field agent of the Department of Omissions (DoOm), tasked with minimising the disruption the supernatural world causes to ordinary British citizens. He's a man shaped by life in the shadows.
Ernie was the point man for a disastrous DoOm scheme to release ghouls into the English countryside as bait for the Hunt, which legends say would scour England of evil. The Hunt didn't show but the ghouls massacred a family on a camping trip.
The only survivor was the youngest child, Cameron Jarvis (played by Chris Starkey). Ernie kept an eye on Cam as he moved through the foster system, mainly out of guilt, but also because Cam had fought off a ghoul, so he might be useful to Ernie in the future.
Completely off DoOm's books, Ernie trained Cam to deal with ghouls and other otherworldly threats. He's been both a handler and something of a surrogate father to Cam.
Years after the tragic experiment with the ghouls, the Hunt finally arrived in England and invited Ernie to join their ranks – via a ghoul being used as a combination errand boy and hunting hound. Ernie declined and took a nasty stab wound from the ghoul.
After Ernie tried and failed to keep Cam out of things, the truth finally came out and Cam put the injured Ernie on notice: if Ernie ever shows his face to Cam again, he'll find himself on the receiving end of his own deadly training.
And that's where we left Ernie at the end of Vigil: Quarry. He will return later this year in Vigil: Fear Itself...
In the meantime, show your appreciation for our favourite highly competent moral vacuum in the Best NPC category at the CRIT Awards!

Consider Kayla
The nomination period for the CRiT Awards is open and cause I did heaps of stuff last year I'm very eligible and considerable (as in, there's much to consider).
For Your Consideration
Best GMless TTRPG - PSYCHODUNGEON
Best Multiplayer TTRPG - Transgender Deathmatch Legend II
Best Indie TTRPG - Either of the above or any of the other games I released last year if they were your favorite
Best Podcast Host - Kayla Dice (Game Soup or This is Your Lifepath)
Best Legacy Podcast - This is Your Lifepath
(so Lifepath's first season started over two years ago, though admittedly the second season was entirely contained to last year)
Best Upcoming Podcast - Game Soup

But yeah everything I released last year, plus Transgender Deathmatch Legend II, is eligible so if you have any favourites I haven't mentioned I'd still appreciate the nod.
Like obviously awards aren't a be all end all, but I have been struggling with seeing the worth in what I make lately and awards, or at least consideration, is one way of remembering it's not all noise in the dark.

The Crit Awards have opened their nominations! Their mission is to celebrate and recognize the contributions and achievements of the TTRPG community, so nominations and votes are community-driven.
If you enjoyed the work of anyone in the TTRPG community, from game designers to artists to actual play performers, a great way you can support them is by nominating them!
