For absolutely no reason in particular… what are some of your favorite sci-fi TTRPG systems you’d like to see us play this year? 💫
Bonus points if they’re written by people of color and trans folks!

I’ve noticed a general trend in our audience of folks who are desperately looking for (and projecting) one dimensional readings of villainy onto certain characters. This is an evergreen reminder that every character in our show has nuance.
In this world, nobody is ever just bad — OR just good.
It’s part of our ethos of storytelling in a noncolonial, anti-orientalist world. We do not portray colonizers, racists, fascists, or bigots — ever. Not even as villains.
We are in a unique position to complexify western ideas of antagonists because we don’t run the risk of giving a racist nuance.
This is incredibly liberating and something we enjoy as storytellers — but I’ve noticed that it’s hard for audiences to let the idea of an easy-to-hate villain go.
But it’s a core part of our story to reject that notion, and you will miss things by insisting on one-dimensional reads of characters.
This isn’t to say you have to LIKE every character! But understanding that nuance will give you a more fulfilling and resonant experience with our story overall.
It’s important that our main characters ALSO make mistakes, do and say hurtful things, lash out — they’re not just “good.” It’s mortal.
There’s also plenty to be said about the purpose of (western) morals, the inherently colonial and ideas of “good” and “bad” as immutable traits that a person can be, and the global trend toward puritanism and sanitation of complex stories… all often in service of fascism and oppression.
All to say:
If you feel the impulse to extrapolate greater harm or villainy than has been explicitly shared, take a moment to consider the scene you’re watching.
What are we as storytellers trying to share in this moment? Does it challenge your idea of a certain theme or character? If so… that’s a good thing!
Sit with that feeling for a moment. Challenge any biases you may be bringing in as a viewer. This is decentering — letting us speak on our own terms.
The Chaos Protocol is its own divine tragedy. It’s complicated, it’s a triptych, it’s iteration, it’s a Journey, it’s not nearly finished yet.

There are only 3 more streams left in Arc 3… surely nothing bad will happen, right? Like Seir already [redacted] and Lumièra got her [redacted redacted] and Xainan hit the [redacted] in the river…
Surely, this will not have consequences… right? 😃

Just put together the full poem of Self Eulogy of a Martyr (by Connie Chang) from the episode titles and I'm crying
One, its such a good poem. The description and just general vibes are amazing (though, from seeing their dming, its not a surprise)
Two, crying??? Sobbing?? Why must you do this to me??? I don't know what I expected but it wasn't what it is. The last bit???

sometimes i think about the brief glimmer we got of Fate and Magic's dynamic during arc 8 and it makes me want to grab Magic by the ankles and shake the secrets out of him.

Gnawing on Sing. The expectation to be the perfect daughter? The path all laid out? The cheerful outside that if you look close enough has cracks? The thought of "I should want this, this is what I should be"?

Being a fledgling fan of Transplanar is great because it's making me go "wait a minute... are there enough butches in my campaign setting?"
And then when I start brainstorming a new butch, I go "hmmm... is this adequate?"
And then a little spirit in the shape of Connie Chang appears in my mind palace and says, "make them even more butch. Also, make at least two butches if you're adding characters, why would you leave it at one?"
"Thank you, specter of Connie Chang," I say, and then furiously start typing in my lore doc.

Does Samm have a a specific hair type in mind for Lumièra? I’m collecting references for some fanart and it would be a great help to know what I should look for! :]
Lumièra’s hair texture is varied, but Samm has established 2c-3b for her curl pattern!!

I love our overlay for Arc 3 because the players really do act like a greek chorus down at the bottom of the screen… reacting in abject agony as Connie continues to frighten them and the audience
10/10 design and viewing experience

The Chaos Protocol is a story about grief.
It is also a story about revolution, and vengeance, and rage, and catharsis, and growth, and love — told by an all-trans, majority-POC table.
Hope is a discipline. Hope is necessary to tell stories. Watch us remake the world every Saturday at 8pm ET. 🏳️⚧️✨
