but he couldn’t help the intense and frankly unfriendly stare that he gives his daughter’s first boyfriend, ignoring all of the polite small talk that the teenage boy in front of him tries to make. this random guy who he has never met before…wanting to date his daughter? what if he only wanted his beautiful and kind daughter for her scarlet eyes? what if he was just playing with her heart? kurapika would hunt him down if he did. kurapika glared at you playfully at the giggles that you let out at his protectiveness, knowing how amusing you found him when he was excessively concerned about your kids.

but he couldn’t help the softening of his eyes at your tears when the doctors tell him that he didn’t have a long time to live. the aftereffects of emperor time from all those years ago. yes, after he recovered all of the scarlet eyes and after all of the phantom troupe members had died, he deactivated emperor time to stop himself from using it ever again, but the aftereffects will remain until death. he was only 46, for god’s sake, and his hair was barely starting to gray. why did he have to go so early? why would he leave you so early? your kids were both adults now, but they both loved kurapika dearly.

but he can’t help the barrage of emotions that come running down on him when he hears what you just made an appointment for. an eunathansia…on the same day as his. anger? fear? disappointment? guilt? and as much as he hated it, he felt just a sliver of relief. that he wouldn’t be alone when he passed, and that you, the person who he loved most in this lifetime and in every lifetime, will be with him. did he want you to pass? no. did he want you to pass with him? yes.

but when his physical mind is finally free of all thoughts, his physical body free of all sensations, and his physical heart free of all heavy emotion, he opens his eyes and the first thing that he sees in you. in all of your glory, your eyes sparkling with emotion, an impish grin on your face as kurapika realized that this must be the afterlife. he had his doubts, but turns out it actually exists. you had the appearance of the day that you turned 20 years old, your prime, and kurapika realized that he must have looked the same. the soft golden light gently cascaded down your features, and kurapika picked up your hand, a gentle kiss from his lips pressing on the back of it as he broke into a smile.

I need to learn japanese immediately to get the intricacies of the dialogue.

I'm going off Voracious Drake's blog as well since they tend to go deeper into why certain things are translated certain ways and potential double-meanings.

The whole 'child' and 'parent' double-meaning with 'dealer' and 'player' is amazing. Togashi loves his games and I love the allegory he is choosing with the way parents have fundamental advantages over their children in their relationship. Having Morena be the one to spell it out is so great with her whole illegitimate child thing and her wanting to destory the world. Volksen asking why Morena is so angry during Morena's explanation is amazing. I feel like the answer is right in front of her. She's upset because of the way society is setup to disadvantage certain people from birth, apropos of nothing that they have done or could have changed. Now, Morena is using those power dynamics to fulfill her own goals of burning it all down.

Togashi also continues his own streak of self-orientalising Japan by poking fun at its linguistic traits. This is also a part that I wish I could read Japanese to see what the original text says regarding double-negatives and how they're treated. Morena choosing to be her own subject is great after all that talk about how not doing so could be seen as sign of empathy or hospitality. Despite her front, Morena is, as Volksen rightly sees through, fucking pissed. This panel also goes so hard in this translation:

The double-meaning of her saying how she will answer negative questions while also stating that she is beholden to no one. Morena isn't a subject of the king, of Tserreidnich or even of the 'rules' that govern how the Mafia is run. She is her own subject.

Predictions for Hunter x Hunter Part 1

So I've been thinking about what would happen in hxh after reading the manga (even though it ain't finished yet) so I'm gonna post what my thoughts are on what to come for the Succession arc as well as the future for the main characters.

So between the princes, honestly I think that the succession war will be stopped by some dramatic event and that it won't be determined who would be King. I think the current king will continue to reign despite having lost a few kids already. This will bring even more friction between the princes and their father.

The main princes who actually want the crown namely Benjamin, Camilla and Tserreidnich are going to try to fight their father for the crown be it any way possible.

Halkenberg is going to leave the Kakin empire completely and break all ties.

Personal thoughts on who should be king....honestly, none of elder siblings, they're all batshit crazy especially Tserreidnich, I really don't like this guy at all. And the rest of the princes' don't seem interested as well as being on the very young side.

I swear the entire Kakin empire is the epitome of '...absolute power corrupts absolutely...' .

Tserreidnich was looking for Melody, now you might think she's defenseless and what not but we don't know her true abilities yet so I wouldn't underestimate her and I also believe he has the song she's looking for so it would be both beneficial to her and Kurapika to get closer to him.

The phantom troupe being on the ship was a little surprising to me but I love them so it's great to see them. I think Hisoka is already on the ship and disguised as some or some storyline along this. He's definitely on the ship...he might even be pretending to be Illumi to be honest.

The phantom troupe is already being trimmed down, Kurapika starting the hunt and now Hisoka....its very likely most of them will be killed of in this arc. At this point, Kurapika needs his revenge and Hisoka is dead set on hunting them. Its inevitable.

I kinda wonder if Gon and Killua are going to be in this arc...I'm trying to think of what would bring them there unless its Ging wanting Gon to join the exploration of the Dark continent. I think they might be at the check point where Morel will be transporting the people to the Dark continent.

Also I really want to see the main characters nen beasts soon....we got a taste with the Princes but hot damn, it would be nice to see everyone's soon.

Hunter x Hunter: Chrollo speculation

oh shit its the earrings man himself

so i had this thought that i considered doing in my free time but then my free time evaporated and im confused where did my free time go.

anyway. i was going to make a list of all the abilities on the black whale 1 and how many of them could help in a fight against hisoka.

aka who chrollo could steal from.

(this is assuming chrollo is playing convert hands with heinrich and has gone to the upper levels)

2nd prince camilla's Cat's Name. this. this ability right now. should be chrollo's number one priority once he finds out. and camilla is an easy target. this is a one hit kill with hisoka. if he fuckin steals this ability and uses it, that is gg immediately.

9th prince Halkenburg's Possession Arrow. now you see. THAT. is a spicy meatball. if chrollo can hit the shot, that would be insane. however, depending on if being honest is a condition of using double face, then it will not work. bcs all hisoka has to do is dodge and chrollo dies. but if chrollo is fast enough he could probably hit it and it would only cost one of the remaining troupe members. itd be really fuckin funny if it was illumi though

4th prince tserreidnich's ability. we don't know what it is yet but since tserreidnich is so new to nen he could be a complete dumbass and fulfill chrollo's conditions no problem. though it would depend on how parallel future works if chrollo steals the ability in the altered future or if tserreidnich can even do anything to prevent it. or if parallel future is even his ability because there is a juicy theory out there that it's not.

AND! chrollo would only have to lie once. and that's an opportunity for a very cool scar >:3

hinrigh's Biohazard. this ability could be very useful. however, chrollo will likely never get this ability bcs hinrigh is busy at the moment u-u. that being said, having diversions in a fight against hisoka has proven to be very helpful. consider: grenade squirrels.

yokotani's Battle of Wits. if im not mistaken this is only able to be activated within a certain area of the ship. but it is supremely busted. indestructible objects that can 'remove' a target from the vicinity could be extremely strong. probably not the best against hisoka? bcs hisoka is very slippery and gummy. so if he can get hisoka into that base, it would be great for holding him in place.

those are ones i think that would be useful to chrollo in a fight. there are more in the black whale one but things like Benjamin Baton, Bloody Mary and fuckin. Body and Soul are borderline useless to him. (thats a lot of b names at once lol). Room would also be useless since it requires a set space and is a landmine type. he can't control hisoka that much.
