Heyyy, great work on your art! Especially the mcsm parts! I need an art teacher like you, I just have a few questions, how did you develop your art style, and jack, there's only like one thing about jack on ur page T.T, have you thought about drawing him more? Not tryna b rude or anything, actually I'm not being rude-
for my art? mostly taking inspo from a lot of different artists- like how they colour, how they interpret the shapes of whatever they’re drawing, the way they do lineart (or the way they don’t!), why the way they draw works for the purpose of their art, then incorporating what i’ve learnt into my own work, yknow the usual ig. other than that it’s just me experimenting and seeing what feels right
and yeah jack will probably come back, gotta draw him for au stuff anyways

Sorry to pester u once again :// i just really adore ur stuff and wanna know how ya color ur edits? once again, ur stuff is sooooo bomb and im tryna to experiment n' stuffs :) my current style is super simple and urs is so messy yet clean??? unique and beautiful. its just- yesss queennn.
first off:
YOU’RE SO SWEET MAN ILY
secondly:
man, you’re so sweet! i really don’t do much, though,,,just get your cap (I usually get mine from @/sobamilk and @/heroacacaps) and have an idea in your head!
i then open the cap in medibang paint (it’s free and extremely good) and choose to ‘extract lineart’ then make a layer under it to colour! i start off with flat colours, then use a dark blue/purple if the colour scheme leans more towards cool colours and a dark red/pink if the colours are more warm to cell shade on a multiply layer. sometimes i airbrush instead, but the same colour principle applies. go wild with highlights! i use a red/pink airbrush on an add layer to get a glowy feel, then a regular pen on top. then i use a gradient of the most striking colour in the piece as an overlay!
for editing: erase the parts you don’t like and then redraw them the way you do! try to avoid lines/curves of the body if you’re not particularly happy with your anatomy skills...like me. all in all, just go wild man!! have fun!!!

A BASIC GUIDE TO DIGITAL ART ON PROCREATE
okay so i joined the digital art scene about a year or so ago and it has been a total whirl! there’s so much stuff that’s so confusing and hard to understand at first. And that’s okay! A stupid amount of what constitutes as “good” or “complex” art is to do with layers, patience and experience.
and because literally every tutorial on here is for Paint Tool Sai i thought it might be useful for those of us using Procreate! because i don’t have sai and i have a relatively shit laptop by comparison to my Ipad.
so without further ado - here is how to make a KICKASS piece of art on procreate
1. REFERENCE + SKETCH
the first thing you're gonna wanna do is collect any references you need for thing youre tryna make. you can collect references by finding stock images, using other artists work (i use these mostly for colour refs cause i SUCK at finding good colours). however when i make art nowdays i usually just snap a selfie and use that. for this work i did the last option (see below)
after grabbing my reference i decide on the style i wanna use. for beginer artists what i suggest doing is just pasting the image onto your canvas, opening layers and adjust the opacity to around 20% by clicking on the little N on your layer with the photo. then once thats done add a new layer by clicking the + and work over that
for more experienced artists experimenting with style just stick that bad bitch reference in the corner, then open a new layer and sketch in your own style.
when it comes to sketching i usually do little flicky lines. i do this with a mid grey (like 50% white 50% black) i recommend the “Narinder pencil” which you can find by clicking the little brush at the top, selecting sketching and then selecting that bad boy. you can adjust size and opacity using the sliders to the side of the screen.
when sketching you just wanna get a rough idea of where you’re gonna do your eventual lines - don’t worry about it being smooth or anything just get down where everything goes
once you’re done you might have something like this:
this brings us too...
2. LINE ART
for beginners - lineart is just a sexy word that means a clean drawing with hard lines so you can colour it easier and it looks prettier. you want to do this on a new layer so you can delete the sketch one later.
your goal with lineart is to make it three things: 1) its gotta be seamless so you can select the insides, don’t leave little gaps between lines 2) its gotta be smooth! jagged lineart isn’t NEARLY as sexy as smooth curvy lines 3) this one is more of a tip - but lineart generally looks better if you do thinner lines inside your shape with a slightly thicker border line. again this isn’t essential but i find it looks cuter
the way i get my lineart all cute is by using the monoline brush (found in calligraphy). sometimes i use my own modified version of the Technical Pen (found in Inking) but mostly monoline is pretty neat. You can use whatever brush you want but mostly you just wanna ensure that its nice and smoooooth. you can do this by selecting the brush and then clicking it again. this will bring up a popup menu like this:
most of these brush settings are complicated and stupid and i’ll do a big post about it later. the only one that really matters here is streamline. if you wanna use a different brush for lineart just wack that slider up between 80-100% and you’re set.
once your lineart is finished on a seperate layer go to your layer menu and unselect the little tick on your sketch layer. you should be left with something like this.
3. ADDITIONAL DETAIL LINEART + MONOCHROME BASES.
once your focus lineart is done you can add detailed lineart by repeating the same process with sketching and lineart i described above. i like to do details separate because if i dont like it i can just delete the whole layer without destroying my focus.
what i find important in these now is using my favourite fuckin tool in this whole program. you can find it here:
Only start using this once youre 100% done with your lineart. once thats done - make sure youre on the lineart layer and click that weird little s at the top of the screen. go to the bottom and click automatic. then select somewhere INSIDE your lineart. it should do something like this:
don’t freak out! what that blue stuff means is that you've just selected the inside bit of your lineart. continue selecting until your subject is 100% coloured in.
MAKE SURE THE BACKGROUND/STUFF OUTSIDE YOUR LINEART ISN’T SELECTED. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU’VE SELECTED THE LINES THEMSELVES. THEY WILL TURN WHITE ONCE THEYRE SELECTED. if u fuck up and select something by accident that’s all g, theres a little undo button on the bottom. if you click on the paint brush or another tool and you cant add stuff to your selection you can reload the mask by holding down on the weird s and the selection will reload. If there are certain bits of your work that you’re struggling to select with automatic selection that’s also not an issue. just click the “freehand” setting next to the automatic setting on the bottom and you can now use your stylus to draw around what you want to select.
once you’ve selected your foreground in its entirety - THEN click the layer button. insert a new layer underneath your lineart layer. Using literally any brush (works best if you get one from the painting section) colour EVERYTHING white. just get round brush and colour all of it. you wanna keep your line art layer separate over the top.
once all of it is coloured hold down on the weird s tool until it reloads the selection. then look along the bottom of the screen and click the little button that looks like 2 arrows pointing at each other. THIS INVERTS YOUR SELECTION. Open a new layer and make this entire thing a grey. THIS IS WHOLE STEP IS OPTIONAL BUT ITS SUPER USEFUL AND THE SELECTION TOOL IS SUPER HELPFUL FOR GOOD ART. DOING THIS WILL BE SUPER USEFUL WHEN YOU COLOUR STUFF LATER.
once you’re done it should look something like this:
4. BASE COLOURS
okay so this is where shit starts to get real. The goal of putting down base colours is to make is easier to add eventual shading to your piece and decide your colour scheme. This is where the white layer you just used is gonna become your BITCH.
you wanna start by duplicating your white layer you just made. You do that by opening your layer menu and swiping that thot to the left. this is what should happen:
click duplicate. Select the top duplicate you just made and select our favourite weird s tool. click inside your shape and the whole white shape should go blue (become selected). next, open a new layer on top of the white layer. colour in your base colours and now none of it can go outside the lines. you didn’t even have to do a billion selections. you just select inside the white blob on the layer we made the step before, opened a new layer and started colouring. fucking superb. so much time saved. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I USED TO SUFFER BEFORE I THOUGHT OF THIS. HOW LONG I SPENT SELECTING AND RESELECTING I CANNOT
A TIP FOR PEEPS NEW TO THIS PROGRAM - if you use your finger and hold down on a colour you’ve just used it acts like an eyedropper tool so you can pick up any colour you want. like this:
once you got your base colours done you can either: 1) go to your grey layer you made in the last step and select the tick next to it. once you’ve done that scroll to the bottom of your layers and select background. it will open a colour wheel. pick your background colour. 2) you can use my second favourite tool from this program! go to your grey layer you made in the previous step. click on it, then click on it again. (not the little n just click the whole layer) this menu should pop up:
oh MAN okay so. “alpha lock” pretty much means that it locks whatever is on the layer. when you get another brush and go over a layer with alpha lock turned on you can only paint over what you have previously put on the layer before turning on alpha lock. Its like automatically selecting everything on the layer. its fucking brilliant. anyway. scribble over your grey layer (once alpha lock is on) and boom you have a base for your background.
NOW YOU KNOW ABOUT ALPHA LOCK YOU GO BACK TO YOUR LINEART LAYER. SELECT ALPHA LOCK. COLOUR IN YOUR LINES ROUGHLY 2 OR SO ISH SHADES DEEPER THEN YOUR BASE COLOURS
(minus eyes i like to keep the lines around them black.) this will make your art like 100000000 times nicer (majority of the time)
once you’re done you should get something like this:
this brings up to...
5. SHADING!!!!!!! this is my favourite step tbh.
what you wanna do is chuck on a new layer over the top of your base colours. and go into your brushes. pick up your basic bitch “round brush.” this is (in my opinion) the best painting brush in the program. Its the thing you can do the most with. so what you wanna do it get a slightly deeper colour from your colour wheel by yeeting your colour selection slightly more saturated and slightly more dark. dont just make it blacker move your colour selector on a diagonal to get a nicer colour. (i’ll eventually do a colour theory ref but today is NOT that day.)
i like to do colouring in short, light strokes. DON’T PRESS TOO HARD. you wanna get that cute little gradient.
A THING FOR BABY ARTISTS: on every art program i have ever used, the blending tool SUCKS. it makes paintings UGLY AF. (wow another tutorial i have to do at some point. i HATE the blending tool. SO HERE IS HOW I COLOUR MY ART TO MAKE IT LOOK, YKNOW, GOOD:
Unless you’re drawing something SUPER freaking smooth like a bubble or some shit. when you wanna blend colours what you gotta do is: 1) put in your darker colour. 2) use your finger to bring up the eyedropper tool to select a mid colour of the colours your blending together - a mix between your lighter and darker colour. (remember that tool? it looks like this)
3) Paint the colour you just made in the middle of your lighter and darker shades. REPEAT THIS PROCESS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE COLOUR YOU JUST PUT DOWN TILL IT LOOKS GOOD. The result is an WAY sexier piece of art.
once you’ve put in all your shadows repeat the same process with highlights.
FUN TIP: if you decide you dislike a colour or want to change the colour you already did all the shading for you can change the colour without any major drama. You can do this by select ing the colour on your colour wheel you would like to change your already shaded work too. (make sure you’re on the right layer.) then hold down on the colour dot on the top bar (next to your layer settings) and drag it to whatever you want recoloured. let go of the dot and it should recolour your work (including all the shading you’ve done granted that its on the same layer) like this:
once you’ve got all your shading done it should look something like this:
6. background and pretty bits
so! youve got this kickass work but nothing surrounding it. lets fix that.
In procreate there is SO MUCH you can use to spice up a work. a SCARY amount even. this is when layer settings are gonna start to come in handy.
ill do a masterpost on procreate brushes for backgrounds later, but for this piece what im gonna do it head over to the Luminescence section and pick up a “nebula brush”. this makes a complex galaxy kinda design in a randomised stamping pattern that is frankly SEXY AS ALL HELL. Select a layer below your base colours but above your background colour. IMPORTANT NOTE: this brush’s blend mode is autimatically set to “add” (ILL DO ANOTHER POST ON THAT LATER)which means if you go over the same spot heaps of times it will eventually go a bright white. This can be nice, but its not really what i want cause its kinda intense. to make this thing go glowy but not ~too~ glowy im gonna lower the brush opacity (the bottom slider) to around half way. i set my colour to a light yellow and a darkish pink and put in some nebulas!!!! once that was done I wantd to add some more colour variation so i popped open a new layer - selected the lightleak tool and lowered the brush opacity using the slider to around 20% just to spice some shit up
you can kinda do whatever you want for your background. sometimes its nicer just to go into artistic, select a random brush and draw a square underneath what you were doing. backgrounds can be super detailed or super easy it doesn’t really matter to be 100% honest.
THE PART 2 OF THIS STEP WILL ADD HEAPS OF DIMENSION TO YOUR WORK AND MAKE IT SUPER PRETTY: adding light effects over the TOP of your main subject often creates a more realistic sense of depth. In simple terms it just makes the thing look more 3D and nice. to do this, get a random brush with a nice (preferably light) colour. i picked up a “bokeh brush” from the Luminescence section. make this pretty big. sprinkle your brush across the page on a NEW LAYER above all of your work so far, including line art! Then open your layer menu and click that little n in the corner again. Remember this one:
click the little n. then go down to the bottom and select a layer setting from either of the 2 groups circled (i normally like overlay for this type of thing) you can mess around with layer settings and opacity till you find something that looks super nice. My piece now looks like this:
pretty cool right. now we’re gonna make it EVEN COOLER.
7. LIGHT FILTERS
this is something i picked up from artists like softmushie and cryptidw00rm. (not gonna @ them here cause they probs dont wanna get tagged in my shitty tutorial thing but yeah i owe so much to those two especially)
for those unsure of what im talking about: light filters are layers you add over work to make the lighting on it seem more natural and pretty. you do this by colouring over your natural highlights and shadows with different colours and then messing with the layer settings to make it seem like its being hit by sunlight. these layers go BELOW your foreground stuff (the bokeh lights from step 6) but ABOVE your lineart.
start by opening a new layer. select a colour similar to where the green outlines are here:
now on this layer paint over anywhere where the sun or other light source would be normally hitting (like cheekbones hair etc.) this can be kind of like shading. dont worry if it looks shit at first we’re gonna change it.
open a new layer beneath the one you just made. Using a colour similar to one circled in purple above colour over all the shadows in a piece. it should now look like this:
now open your layer settings on the purple/darker layer by selecting the N like we did with the foreground layer before. you can play around from here by setting the layer mode to anything from the “darken” or “contrast” menu. For this work i chose overlay. I then lowered the opacity until it looked nice.
Repeat the step above with the lighter highlight layer. when adjusting this one make sure you set the layer mode to anything from the “lighten” or “contrast” menu. For this work i did hard light.
your peice should now look kind of like this:
AND YOU’RE DONE!!!!!!!!
look at that sexy thing you just did. Congrats on creating an awesome peice of art!!!!!!

Unpack Your Heart
Third and Final(!) Part of ‘Greenlight’ for @deathbylowden (Mary, I got a bit carried away with this one). Part 1 | Part 2
Listen - Unpack Your Heart by Phillip Phillips
Two days. You've got two days left in Scotland before you're due home for two weeks for the winter Holidays.
It's not just two days left in the country you've fallen in love with that's got you upset.
It's that soon you'll have to leave Jack as well. Leave him behind here in Scotland while you fly back to Chicago and freeze to death for the next two weeks. Not even the promise of Portillo's chocolate cake was making you excited to head home.
You were still trying not to think about leaving, to ignore the pang in your chest when you thought about it, but the end is so close to you it's starting to creep in like an unwanted darkness spreading and blacking out all the good you'd managed to find in this impossibly green wonderland that Scotland is.
Together you and Jack are spending the penultimate adventure day here just on a beach in Portobello. You are staying at Jack's family home tonight, meeting his mum and dad (ma and da, as he calls them). He'd warned you about his ferocious dog, too.
But you'd seen pictures, he wasn't fooling anybody: that dog was bound to be a fluff ball of love and cuddles.
"Wait," his voice pulls you from your thoughts about voyagers sailing from this very spot.
You'd been looking out at the waves, your camera tucked away in your bag, and just taking in the sight before you.
It was cloudy, little pokes of light peeking through even with the threat of rain from some of the darker clouds above you.
The sea ahead was a mixture of green and grey and blue, all the angrier shades of the respective colours mixing together in order to create the impression of the cold swirling water that lies beneath the shimmering surface.
You couldn't explain the draw you felt to it. Before you'd known what you were doing, you were slipping out of your boots and pulling off your socks.
"Are you mental?" Jack looks at you as you roll up your jeans to about the midway point on your calves.
"Probably," you smile up at him before you move on to your other pant leg to roll it up as well.
"That's the North Sea," he points out, his face clouded with concern, his voice becoming a bit more strained. "It's gotta be less than ten degrees!"
"Right," you nod. "Yeah, it'll be a bit cold." You stand up to full height again and drop your bag beside your shoes before looking at him, smirking at his discomfort as you take a small step backwards, toward the water line.
"A bit?"
"It's all about the experience," you smile. "Have you never done a polar plunge?"
"No, and I didn't have any plans to," he gives you a look.
"Your loss then," you shrug and turn, speeding off toward the water at a bit of a jog. You're only a few feet away, just where the sand turns thick, damp and cool when you're stopped by an arm slipping around your waist and hoisting you up.
"What're you doing, not even waiting for me?" His mouth is right beside your ear, his beard tickling your neck as he holds you flush against him with your feet off the ground. You try not to think about how strong he is if he's lifting you with only one arm.
"What do you mean?" You pant out, grateful he can't see your flushed cheeks from his vantage point.
"Well I'm not going to let you go it alone, am I?" He asks.
"But you said-"
"Changed me mind, didn't I?" He cuts you off. "Now if I put you down will you wait for me to take my boots off?" His breath is mixing with the wind, and your not sure which is making the baby hairs on the back of your neck rise up. You have a pretty good hunch though.
You bite your lip and nod.
He chuckles a bit and places you back on the ground; you immediately notice the loss of contact, and when you turn you see him bent down untying his boots and mumbling to himself.
"What was that?" You ask with a smirk.
He glances up at you from rolling his pant legs up, his hair windswept, his eyes alight, filled with humour.
"Didnae say anything," he shakes his head as he stands back up fully beside you.
"Shit you didn't," you roll your eyes.
"The things you get me to do," he says with a smile. You're not sure, but you're pretty sure he's referring to the One Direction listening session you'd forced upon him in the car last week, on top of this, of course.
"You've got free will," you shove his arm a bit and he reaches for your hand to hold it.
"Not around you," he mumbles under his breath. You're not sure if you were meant to hear it, but you definitely did.
"SHITE FUCK JESUS CUNT-"
"Inappropriate," you cut him off with a laugh at his antics as he attempts to continue his tirade while the water slides over your feet and the sand, sending shocks through you and Jack.
"Like hell it's inappropriate," he complains and tries to run back before the next wave comes in to cover your toes.
Your hand is still in his though, and you're not letting go, despite him trying his best to pull you backwards.
Instead, much to his disbelief and his disgruntlement, you take another step forward and plant your feet into the damp sand. The coarse texture both smooth and rough under your toes as you wiggle them around a bit and watch the next wave--the one that Jack had tried valiantly to get away from--come in and cover your feet.
Jack squeezes your hand and tries to give you a little tug, but you don't acknowledge him. Instead, you take a deep breath of the sea air and close your eyes, raising your face to the sky a bit as you just feel: no photographs, no article to write about the place, nothing.
It's just you, Jack, and the sea.
"Three-hundred?" You stare at him, open-mouthed as he drives along the road his family home is found on.
"That's a generous sum, too," he nods and glances at you from the corner of his eye. "Back when I was a kid, it was two-seventy. I doubt that's been added to."
"Two-seventy to win," you murmur and blush when he gives you a confused look.
"America joke," you shrug, the blush making your way down.
"Ah," he nods. Still not getting it but going along with it anyway.
"Is that it?" You point out the front windscreen.
It's a small cottage-style home that's coming into view and immediately a feeling of comfort and excitement settles into you at just the sight of it.
Beside you, Jack nods and smiles. "That's home."
It's his voice. There's a tone that's just absolutely perfect for the setting you've found yourself in. A rustic cottage snug on a hill in the smallest town you've ever been, a dog running up to the car to greet you as Jack pulls in the drive, the greens and greys of the trees and they sky blurring together when the wind blows through them. The temperature swiftly dropping since this afternoon and yet the feeling of warmth that settles within you when you see his face gaze upon home, the delight of seeing his pup again is enough to keep you from getting a chill.
You hope that you adopt that tone when talking if Scotland and you're time here in the very near future. You've never felt more of a connection to a place.
Perhaps it's also the company rather than just the place alone, a voice whispers in your mind as you both push your doors open and exit the car. You try hard to keep that voice quiet.
"Hey, laddie!" The good boy is jumping on Jack's legs, barking and panting in delight at the sight of him. Jack, ever the pushover you've found him to be, crouches down and begins to pet him, burying his face in the fluffy fur.
After a few moments, Jack nudges the dog away from his face so that he can smile up at you.
"This is Archie," he introduces you. Archie, having realized there's another person, reacquires all the energy he'd just expended saying hello to Jack and turns it on you.
With a laugh, you give him the backs of your hands so he can smell and assess you when he leaps over from Jack to you. He seems to decide to trust you.
"Good boy," you coo and bend down, as Jack had, to pet him while he tries to lick your face and neck.
"Oi!" Jack teasingly chastises Archie. "The world's changed, mate. You'll get in trouble if you don't ask her consent first."
"Are you saying it was okay before?" You arch an eyebrow at him while petting the pup.
"Course not," he shakes his head. "I'm just tryna keep my best mate from getting locked up for it."
"I think he's fine," you laugh and finally push yourself back up to standing. "He's quite a killer, though. All bite and no bark."
"You're such a comedian," he rolls his eyes and takes your hand, leading you to the front door with Archie hot on your heels.
"We're off to bed, you two," Jack's mum, clicks off the hallway light as her and his dad make toward the stairs.
It's half-eleven in the evening.
Your night had consisted of meeting Jack's parents, playing a rather lopsided game of fetch with Archie, doing the washing up despite the indignation Jack's mum felt and the rather persistent shooing she did to try and keep you away, and finally while she and Jack's dad sat in the study and did a crossword together while listening to Frank Sinatra--seriously how cute was that?--you and Jack had been sat on his sofa watching the first few episodes of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.
"Night," Jack calls back with a wave and small smile over his shoulder.
"Goodnight," you turn quickly and his mum nods at you with a warm smile before following her husband to disappear up the stairs.
"Mum likes you," Jack says quietly from his spot. The two of you are sitting against opposite arms of the sofa, your legs stretched out side-by-side in between you. Multiple fluffy and soft blankets are strewn haphazardly across you as you shoot him a look in confusion.
"It was the washing up," he shrugs.
"I thought she was going to murder me for doing the washing up at one point," you raise an eyebrow at him.
"She'll never admit it, at least, I don't think she will, but she really admired that you did it, appreciated it," he shrugs and turns back toward the show only to realize the credits were going.
"She's only known me a couple of hours and she's probably the nicest human being I've ever met," you tell him honestly. "And your dad," he turns back from the credits to you, "he seems really cool as well. Really enjoys his Scottish history."
"You didn't think I got my admiration from no one, did you?" Jack asks, amusement colouring his features.
"It's all making sense now," you kick his thigh with your toes.
A quietness falls over the two of you, neither of you making a move to start the next episode, neither of you saying anything.
"What're you thinking about?"
Jack's soft voice pulls you from your reverie a few minutes later.
"About you," you say truthfully before you can stop yourself, your cheeks flushing red at your admission. "About Scotland and how much I'll miss it. About how it's going to be a full thirty degrees colder when I get home. About how I'll have to always schedule layovers in Glasgow and Edinburgh from now on," you start smiling. "Mostly about how I really don't want this trip to end the day after tomorrow."
His gaze locks in on yours from across the sofa, he puts his hand on your calves.
"It has been pretty good, hasn't it?" He asks.
"All thanks to you," you nod your head. "My editor is so pleased with the work I've done. Says it's my best yet," you add. "I told him it's probably a one-time thing."
Jack laughs quietly to himself, biting his lip as his dimples flash and make you feel some kind of way. He's embarrassed as the insinuation he's behind your best work.
"I'm sure I'll never bump into another stranger in a cafe to judge my guidebook and then offer to take me around himself," you nudge him again with your toes.
"I hope you don't," he gives you a look. "Stranger danger and all tha," he smirks, but there something in his joking tone that doesn't fit well with his words, with his expression. It's poking you, trying to get you to decipher it.
So you keep talking, hoping it'll help you to figure it out.
"I trusted you, didn't I?" You point out. Poke.
"I'm different," he defends himself.
"Different? Different how?" Poke.
“I dunno,” he shrugs. “I’m me. I’m special.”
“How so?” You’re not letting it drop. You’re going to keep poking this secret until it’s out in front of you because you’ll never figure it out on your own.
“I just am,” he says.
“Bullshit,” you narrow your eyes. Poke. Poke. Poke.
“You’re going to make me say it?” he asks.
You don’t say anything. You just raise an eyebrow.
“Because I’m me,” he says and when you actually physically poke him again with your toes he narrows his eyes back at you. “Because I don’t want anyone else to fall in love with you like I did,” he says in one, rushed, very low breath. “I don’t want anyone else to have that privilege.”
Nope. That can’t be it.
You freeze and he pulls his legs up, wrapping his arms around them and resting his chin on his knees as he looks at you so earnestly in the low light. You’re not even sure you’re breathing; maybe the lack of oxygen is causing hallucinations. That’s it.
Because there’s no way he just said that.
None.
“I hate that I said that word,” he shakes his head a bit and bites his lower lip.
You blink.
“It’s not that it’s not true, but I feel like it’s hard to believe that I love you after only knowing you two weeks,” he whispers, almost to himself. “I’ve been in love before, I know that sometimes it takes a while to be nurtured and to grow, and I’m not saying it was love at first sight, but… I love you. That’s what I’m saying. I’m different because I’ve fallen in love with you.”
You blink again.
He’s still taking.
“I think I knew I would,” his words are soft, caressing your ears. “I think that’s why I stopped, why I teased you about going to Loch Ness, why I offered to take you around. I think I knew then, but I didn’t actually know until just this afternoon when you dragged me into the sea with you.”
You finally manage a breath.
“I just wanted you to know before you leave,” he gives you an impish grin. “You don’t have to say anything or pretend to feel the same way, but I didna think I could live with myself if I didn’t tell you. And I only figured it out myself a coupla hours ago as it is. This all seems so ridiculous. And of course, you’re letting me ramble because you can’t think of words to tell me how stupid I am and how you’re going to be glad to be rid of me tomorrow and how I’m such a fool about-“
“Shut up.”
He clamps his mouth shut and looks at you. Fear, rejection, hurt, loss… all of these things flash behind his eyes as he watches you.
You untangle yourself from all the blankets as you stand up from your spot on the couch and kneel on the floor beside where he’s sat on the couch. Your head is level with his as he turns and watches you. You place your hands on top of his and pull them towards you, feeling them between your fingers like it’s where they’re meant to be.
“Every day,” you whisper calmly.
Confusion crosses his face when you pause.
“Every day since I met you I’ve been telling myself not to fall in love with you,” your voice is surprisingly even as your thumbs stroke patterns across the backs of his hands.
His breathing stops.
“And every day, despite my better judgement, despite my trying everything in my power not to… every day I fell more and more in love with you.”
His breath leaves him with a heavy sigh, but he doesn’t take in another just yet. He’s waiting.
“I didn’t love you until today,” you keep on, still surprised at how calm you are about this all. “I didn’t put that final piece together to make a whole until just this afternoon when you, despite everything, followed me into the sea and stood with me. In the frigid water, you just stood there holding my hand and taking it all in.”
It’s his turn to blink at you.
He’s breathing now, at least, though.
“I didn’t want to admit it because I’m leaving so soon and I figured you’d never feel the same way. I just wanted to go home and sulk and have you move on and forget about me-”
“I’d never,” he whispers.
“That’s what I was thinking though,” you lean your forehead against his own, feel his breath against your cheek. “I was hoping you’d go and fall in love with someone else, someone who would be around all the time, who wouldn’t constantly be leaving you. I wanted better for you than me-“
“I don’t.”
You let out a short laugh. “I wanted that for you,” you tell him. “But I don’t anymore. I want you, selfishly, more than I want it to be easy for either of us.”
“I want you too,” Jack’s hands move from yours, one hand cupping your cheek, the other slipping around your back.
“Even with my terrible taste in tourist traps?” You ask.
“I’ll admit, that makes it harder-“ he’s cut off when you let out a laugh. “No,” he shakes his head, his beard scratching deliciously against your cheeks. “No, I don’t care you have terrible taste in tourist traps.”
“But what about my constant travelling?” you ask.
“I’m always the one leaving someone behind,” he says, his eyes searching yours, and you feel yourself freeze again. “Even if I’m leaving you to film, even if I’m not with you and you’re leaving me to travel, I’m not leaving you behind. We’re both individually happy people, but we’ve fallen in love and despite how hard the circumstances may come to be, we can figure it all out. Together.”
You unfreeze.
“You could come to Chicago for New Years,” you offer. One of your hands goes up to cup his face and the other tangles into the short hair at the back of his neck.
“Hogmanay,” he says with a laugh.
“Excuse me?” You pull back a bit to make sure you’re not missing something important.
“Scottish for New Year,” he smiles.
You roll your eyes.
“But yes, I can come to Chicago for it,” he leans in a bit.
“You want to kiss me, don’t you?”
“So badly,” his breath mingles with your own.
“Nothing’s stopping you now, Lowden. Man up a bit and-“
He’s kissing you. Soft and tender, but his hands on you are pulling you closer. You find yourself lying beside him on the couch, chest to chest, your leg is thrown over his hip—because why not?—as you make out like your lives depend on it.
“So we’re making this work?” he asks after a while. His eyes alight, his lips red and swollen, his hands tracing circles across your skin.
“Making what work?” You ask, your tone aloof.
“You’re going to pay for that,” he growls and despite your giggles at his reaction, he captures your lips with his again, holding you close to him for as long as he’s able.

apricot - what do you do when you're sad?:
oh man. urm. it depends. i do a number of things. i drink some water or try to have some kinda fruit. idk why but. yeah? sometimes i sleep it off, other times i pray or listen to the Qur'aan. sometimes i watch people paint and make art, which is really soothing, or i watch people like trevor noah and hasan minhaj! i've also been increasing practicing gratitude a lot too, i think its a really quick but simple way to remind yourself how many blessings you do have, and how much good is in those blessings and how much good that brings into your life.
watermelon - do you have a job? if so, what is your job title?:
currently, no!
coconut - favourite perfume:
jo malone's velvet rose and oud. it has more or less most of my absolute favourite scents in it: oud and cloves and is my absolute favourite perfume in the world. tom ford's oud wood, and black orchid, is also extremely sexy. frankincense and bakoor is also so so so niiiiice too!!! and i love the smell of pure vanilla and the smell of soil and grass once its rained too.
peach - do you have any piercings or tattoos?:
i have my ears pierced. just one per ear. i wanna get more ear piercings but fhsbfus i'm scared. no tattoos.
pomegranate - when do you feel the most confident?:
oh man. urm. not a lot of the times. maybe when i'm cooking? bc i love experimenting and its me doing my own thing that i have some control over. also. like. when i'm asked to talk about something i like or have a real passion about, then, yeah, i feel like its a really nice way to pass on knowledge, so i try my best to do that in a way where i'm not shy about my passion for something.
passion fruit - how would you describe your style?:
at home i just love to wear as baggy and lose clothes as i can. i need to feel 10000000% comfortable at home. but when i'm out, long dresses are my go to. i absolutely looooove long dresses, and i'm a huge jacket/hoodie/coat/outerwear kinda girl. i have more outerwear than i do proper clothes fhshfjs. and i'm honestly trying to get myself to wear lighter coloured hijaabs bc i feel like ... lighter coloured hijaabs don't suit my skintone but i'm tryna break away from that internal, ingrained self-colorist mindset that i have where i'm always like yeah lavender won't suit my brown skin. its .. something i'm working on. and i love boots and trainers. yeah. i'm not too much into slides or flat dolly shoes or things like that. so yeah!
send me a fruit!

Jesus Walks… in Adidas
Jesus Walks… in Adidas
Jesus is King has finally dropped. This is Kanye West’s first Christian rap-gospel album since turning into a born-again Christian in April after the hedonistic indulgence of Coachella.
The Lucifer, Mercy and New God Flow producer has given up secular music and has now turned his career toward the servitude of God.
However, his return from hospital and new found faith will flow nicely into his plans to expand his fashion, music & entertainment empire as well as possibly delivering him the top spot in the White House. This is a man not to be underestimated.
Saint Pablo
‘Ye recently turned around a personal debt of $53 million into a nearly $50m profit. Back in 2016, ‘Ye went out cap in hand to Mark Zuckerberg for $1bn for his ideas, but was promptly ignored. Zuckerberg was raised in a Jewish household, although his wife is a Buddhist and he hasn’t publicly stated his faith. But, this wouldn’t have gone unnoticed by ‘Ye and may have pushed Kanye toward his born-again Christian position.
Soon after, the “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” star seemingly finally started listening to his wife.
“My wife said, I can’t say no to nobody, and at this rate we gon’ both die broke,” West raps on Saint Pablo. “Got friends that ask me for money knowin’ I’m in debt, and like my wife said, I still didn’t say no.”
Stronger
Whilst facing the cold shoulder from Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey – the Square & Paypal founder who was raised a Catholic, offered to invest in Kanye early on.
Jay-Z also kicked in a loan of $20m triggering tensions between the two ending in a public feud.
Here’s Jay-Z on “Kill Jay-Z”:
“You dropped outta school, you lost your principles / You gave him 20 million without thinkin’,” Jay-Z raps, seemingly confirming the rumor that he lent West money. “He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f–k was he thinkin’?”
Recently, Kanye has tried to dead the beef with the recent track “Brothers” with Charlie Wilson.
Power
‘Ye never got that billion from Zuckerberg, although they apparently became friends and even performed karaoke together, but it appears West has now healed his own financial woes: His apparel brand Yeezy is a billion-dollar empire, according to Forbes and over the past 12 months, Forbes estimates West has earned over $150 million before taxes. His wealth is due largely to Yeezy’s Adidas deal, a line that is expected to top $1.5 billion in sales in 2019.
The Jordan line does approximately $3 billion in annual sales, so the Yeezy line is catching up fast. If he can latch onto the Christian vote, sales could explode even more rapidly.
Touch the Sky
Christianity is the most adhered to religion in the United States, with 65% of polled American adults identifying themselves as Christian in 2019. This is down from 85% in 1990, 81.6% in 2001, and 12% lower than the 78% reported for 2012. About 62% of those polled claim to be members of a church congregation.
Kenneth Copeland is the number one pastor in the USA and his net worth is $300m. After the backlash for supporting Trump, the natural progression seems to be for Kanye to target the Trump supporters and Christians who make up the large majority of America with around another 20% of the population perhaps open to conversion back to Christianity. It is a huge target market… and that is just America.
Christianity is by far the world’s largest religion, with an estimated 2.2 billion adherents, nearly a third (31%) of all 6.9 billion people on Earth in 2010.
Jesus is King
The new sound track has been carefully crafted to be sung by large audiences to worship god. With tracks such as “Follow God” and “Use This Gospel”, Kanye is on a mission to convert. He has brought the Church to the streets and into the hills… No Church in the Wild.
His carefully chosen purple hair and purple cloths are to portray himself as an Emperor, clergy-like figure, if not Jesus himself, I don’t think it will be long before Kanye professes himself as a Prophet of some sort.
Kanye pronounced himself “I am a God” back on Yeezus.
I just talked to Jesus He said, “What up, Yeezus?” I said, “Shit—I’m chillin’ Tryna stack these millions” I know he the most high But I am a close high Mi casa, su casa That’s our cosa nostra I am a god I am a god I am a god
Rappers as Jesus
This isn’t new in rap. Check out the images below from Kanye, Nas, Tupac, DMX and The Game.
Jeru the Damaja, who follows the Nation of Islam, like Wu-Tang, Rakim & Brand Nubian, famously wrote a song “Can’t Stop the Prophet”.
Rappers have always seen themselves as street prophets, telling war stories, from Rakim, Nas & KRS-One right back to Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five in The Message.
Purple Robes
Throughout history, purple robes were worn by royalty and people of authority or high rank. Many believe this to be true because the rare occurrence of purple in nature made it one of the most expensive color dyes to create.
Purple and violet represent the future, the imagination and dreams, while spiritually calming the emotions. They inspire and enhance psychic ability and spiritual enlightenment, while, at the same time, keeping us grounded.
At the time of Jesus, the dye used for making the colour purple, extracted from shell-fish and was one of the most expensive dyes. The colour-fast (non-fading) dye was an item of luxury trade, prized by Romans, who used it to colour ceremonial robes, usually worn by Emperors. The very fact that purple was an expensive color made it affordable only to the royals. That Jesus was made to put it on before his crucifixion, implies that the Romans were sending a strong signal to the Jews against any coup.
A.D.I.D.A.S.
ADIDAS was founded by German, Adi Dassler (Adolf Dassler). In fact, one of the founders, his brother Rudolf Dassler later went on to found Puma and started a bitter rivalry between the brothers. There is a popular myth among fans (not true) that Adidas stands for All Day I Dream About Sports, whilst in 2003, Killer Mike dropped a hip hop track called A.D.I.D.A.S. (All Day I Dream About Sex).
Like many of their fellow citizens, the brothers joined the Nazi party after Adolph Hitler came to power in 1933. Their shoe business remained modest until 1936. In that year, Germany hosted the Olympics.
In an ironic twist, the two party members got legendary African-American runner Jesse Owens to wear their running shoes while competing. Owens went on to win four gold medals during the games. The exposure of their product gave Dassler Shoes a huge boost in sales. You can read more in Sportsweek History.
It does seem ironic, given Kanye’s sex addiction that he would align himself with this particular shoe and his plans are to get the shoes made in America and give “second chances” to inmates.
But, he is going to run into problems with the media as the average wage of a prison inmate ranged between $0.23 and $1.15 an hour – According to the International Labor Organization, in 2000–2011 wages in American prisons
In Texas, Georgia, and Arkansas, inmates aren’t paid at all for their labor.
The “New Slave” indeed. I initially thought another way to make money would be to make inexpensive Jesus style sandals and sure enough, I found that is exactly what ‘Ye is planning. They are called “slides” in America and Adidas will be making these from injection moulding and it hasn’t gone unnoticed from Twitter that they are basically prison shoes, but now they are being remarketed as a high fashion item for children of rich kids. That is marketing genius.
Why do the yeezy slides look like the slides worn in prison.. pic.twitter.com/LsR8dbFyqE

ADIDAS YECHEIL
The first shoe in Ye’s collection is the Yecheil, which is a Hebrew masculine given name meaning “May God live” or “God shall live”. Several people in the Bible also have this name.
ADIDAS YEEZREEL
For the second shoe of ‘Ye’s collection, there is the“Yeezreel”. It has no exact translation but it seems he might’ve been inspired by the word “Jezreel” which was an ancient Israelite city and fortress originally within the boundaries of the Tribe of Issachar, and later within the northern Kingdom of Israel.
ADIDAS YESHAYA
The third shoe is called the “Yeshaya” which directly translates to “God Is Salvation”. The name Yeshaya (Yesha’yahu) translates from Hebrew to English as the name Isaiah, who was one of the four major prophets of the Old Testament, and the author of the Book of Isaiah. He was from Jerusalem and probably lived in the 8th century BC.
Many of these shoes use Adidas “Cloud” foam, so ‘Ye and his fans are figuratively walking on clouds.

Through the Wire – Prison Reform
Kim Kardashian announced her decision to study law back in April. Since then, she’s met with President Trump to discuss prison reform, teamed up with the 90 Days of Freedom campaign, and is producing a documentary on the subject.
CNN reported that Kim Kardashian West helped free 17 inmates in 90 days.
Kanye West has donated $1m to prison reform, but is now getting US prison workers to make his shoes at 25% of the cost of having his shoes made in China, unless somehow, he is quadrupling the prison wage.
There will be Church factions and sections of the media who will most likely attack Mr. West for essentially using slave labour in prisons to increase profit. Chinese factory workers are now getting paid more than ever: Average hourly wages hit $3.60 in 2017 compared to around $1 for an American prison worker.

How he objects to the censorship of speech of the left
Jesus is King is out now on Spotify, mp3, vinyl & CD
Jesus is Born, another new album, is arriving on Christmas Day this year.
Kanye West’s Journey
There is a bigger story here. How hip hop can be cathartic. Hip hop is bashed left, right and centre in the mainstream media daily, mainly times rightly so, for enforcing stereotypes. But, real hip hop can be a spiritual journey.
Some artists have found solace and teachings much earlier on in their lives such as Rakim, Wu-Tang Clan, KRS-One & Jeru the Damaja. Other artists take longer to mature. It seems to me to be better rapping about street crime then taking part in it. This is something most non-hip hop heads seem to not understand. Hip hop is way out the streets, just like a sports contract.
Everyone has their own journey and Kanye’s has taken him into Christianity. If record sales pick up, it will turn into a bigger movement. Time will tell what happens if it “All Falls Down”, streams sour and Adidas sales start to Fade. In such a scenario, it may be very hard for Kanye to stay on the straight and narrow, but I wish him luck. Time will tell.
I’m looking forward to see how he reacts surrounded with Angels in future fashion shows singing his new songs.
youtube
I’ll leave you with the last verse from Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five’s “The Message”, possibly still the greatest hip hop song ever written. The message is as relevant today as it was back in 1982.
A child is born, with no state of mind Blind to the ways of mankind God is smiling on you, but he’s frowning too Cause only God knows, what you go through You grow in the ghetto, living second rate And your eyes will sing a song of deep hate The place, that you play and where you stay Looks like one great big alley way You’ll admire all the number book takers Thugs, pimps and pushers and the big money makers Driving big cars, spending twenties and tens And you wanna grow up to be just like them Smugglers, scramblers, burglars, gamblers Pickpockets, peddlers and even pan-handlers You say I’m cool, I’m no fool But then you wind up dropping out of high school Now you’re unemployed, all null ‘n void Walking ’round like you’re pretty boy floyd Turned stickup kid, look what you done did Got send up for a eight year bid Now your manhood is took and you’re a may tag Spend the next two years as an undercover fag Being used and abused and served like hell Till one day you was found hung dead in a cell It was plain to see that your life was lost You was cold and your body swung back and forth But now your eyes sing the sad sad song Of how you lived so fast and died so young So, don’t push me cause I’m close to the edge I’m trying not to lose my head It’s like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder How I keep from going under It’s like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder How I keep from going under

do you have any tips for coloring hair? i think i'm fairly good with everything besides the hair and i don't wanna post anything until i'm really okay with it and i really like your work and think you rock it
yooo askin me for a drawing tip eint the best idea ever u kno..i have no idea what im doin i just put stuff on stuff till im bored of doing that.tbh i dont even like colouring hair that much i just like drawing it. but ok lemme think bout it..hmm ok i dont have a tablet rn but i have my fingers n paint. ill just check how hair looks in my draws so i know what ur talkin bout….
.
.
yeah
ok lets say this is the model of my hair anatomy, idk why the lineart line goes over the line but dont mind it
again,im drawing with my middle finger so dont blame me if u cant read whats written there lol
SO the most important thing in my draws always has been n always will be LINEART,colouring is like the side effect that just helps me to give drawing the mood so im tryna keep it as simple as possible. but i know many of you dont even put lineart over your colouring so this might be useless to you.
after lineart comes MAIN THING. thats the tone that i fill the full hair shape in. so it’s just the medium colour, the colour that’s uhh….truest to the hair colour. hope that isnt too confusing
after the MAIN THING comes LIGHT THING. so turns out i tend to be super overdramatic with it,but the light thing helps u to show the shape of the head. like drawing just a streight line wouldnt make much sense cuz head is round n hair has volume n every bang has like its own character so better make it wave-y maybe..but then again it depends on your style. oh yeah n i actually dont follow this thing always but light thing shouldnt be white if ur into detail. tbh nothing on human body should be white. even eyes are yellow-pinkish so the only white stuff that makes sense is the bright light spots on wet things n maybe some exta shiny hairs cuz u like em like that…uhh wait im getting off track here
ok n the last thing is the DARK STUFF. this is simply the shadowy part of the hair and tbh it depends on u where u think it would look best,it just makes the shape look more realistic n gives more volume to the head? so usually id draw it under the LIGHT THING or on the top of the head where r the roots and on the ends of the hair.
(uhm…now that i look at everything i wrote i think this stuff is bit useless cuz its like obvious but yeah…hair. if im totally honest with u rn,then the best way is just to experiment. this depends on your style. check your hair in the mirror and move your head so you see how light usually falls on it. go trough brushes(if ur working digitally ofc) n click on settings,u might find cool ways how to easily give hair a natural texture. or you can do the opposite n just fill the whole thing in one colour n give it one light spot in the middle haha. basically the best tip i always end up giving is just try out everything untill something clicks with you,i dont draw 100% realistically so for me this is a question of tastes, good luck dude im sure ull nail it)

Rotational Collaboration Workshops
Exploring ideas
Following on from the project pitch at the FirstSite gallery, this workshop afternoon was a collaborative workshop between the Graphics, Photography and Fashion/Textiles students. It included 3 stations (1 for each course) where mixed students of each course would all complete 3 mini 45-minute workshops. The whole idea was to us thinking about how we could use unfamiliar techniques/processes from other departments of creative arts to create outcomes. It was also to give us the opportunity to communicate with students from different areas to talk about their project and the ideas they have in mind.
It was very important I brought in my 10 collected items for this afternoon due to them playing a huge role in each of the miniature workshops. Within each, we were using our collected items as primary research to observe and capture within our outcomes.
Graphics
I started the rotation of workshops at graphics, out of the three I found this the most comfortable and enjoyable workshop. It consisted of three different 15minute activities where we looked at three alternative drawing techniques of how we could re-create our objects/items. The aim of this was to supply us with other creative ways we could look at creating observational studies of our gathered items.
Stage 1: Detailed sketch using biro or pencil
Stage 2: Abstract felt tip drawing
Stage 3: Loose ink painting
Being a graphics student, these are 3 techniques I was already familiar with therefore when it came to each stage I felt very satisfied with what I was creating and how I was creating it.
Stage 1:
For the first stage, I chose one of my objects and simply started by creating a detailed sketch using a pencil trying not to rub out any lines. Out of my objects, I chose to sketch an old fashion candle holder. Out of all the techniques, this was the one I found the easiest as I have always been very familiar with accurately drawing from observation and is a very useful skill to have as a designer.
The outcome I produced immediately captures my object as I believe that it shows a high level of proportion and detail which makes it recognisable.
Stage 2:
After easing my way through stage 2, we went on to a simpler, more abstract approach which required using a different media and technique.
This time, I chose a different item and using a coloured felt tip pen I quickly drew the outline/silhouette of my object. I then repeated this process 3+ times using different colours whilst rotating my paper each time to create a series of outlines which all overlapped at different angles. With these layered up drawings, I then started to colour in/fill the abstract shapes created where the outlines all intersected. The aim of this technique was to look past the idea of authenticity and instead look at a more conceptual, minimalistic style which was alot more individual.
In comparison to the previous technique, this technique required alot less thought and skill due to the outcome being random and almost accidental. In this process, no matter how similar each drawing is, the outcome produced is always going to be original due to the overlapping and rotation that created additional unique shapes. As well as this, the outcome I produced is alot more unidentifiable than the previous pencil drawing however is alot more visually appealing through the use of colour and layering.
Stage 3
For the final stage of this small workshop, I was exploring another ‘traditional’ art technique which was ink painting. Here I was experimenting with a much larger scale using a thick brush and ink to create a looser, less defined outcome. Being a designer, I prefer my work to be alot tighter and articulate therefore I found this technique more difficult because it required letting my preciseness go and being freer. When creating work, I usually like to plan it out in pencil and have alot more control whereas this exercise threw me out my comfort zone by going straight in with ink on a much larger scale without being able to determine every mark I made.
In comparison to the other ‘traditonal’ process using pencil, ink formulated more imperfections which worked due to the flow of the line. Pencil creates alot harsher, sharper line work whereas ink being a liquid created a smoother, fluid effect.
Photography
Moving on to the next workshop, I was faced with Photography. Within this workshop, I was simply experimenting with a range of different lightings and backdrops to capture a variety of images of my objects.
The aim of this workshop was to capture still-lifes of our objects using a DSLR camera and our phone cameras to explore with contrast (highlights and shadows) and exposure. Already set-up was 4 small studios each one containing a different backdrop (white, grey & black) and lighting. Types of lights include:
Soft-box
Standard reflector (dish)
Beauty dish
Tungsten (Red Head)
Things I considered when shooting my objects included the position of object/light, the proximity of light, the type and quality of light. These all determined the aesthetic of my photographs due to the change in shadow, contrast as well as the backdrop these were combined with.
Photography isn't one of my strong points, however, I have always had a general understanding of how camera’s work as well as basic lighting. Therefore, I believe this quick workshop was very beneficial as it has improved my knowledge of basic picture-taking. I could now develop this knowledge into my own work when photographing finalised outcomes for a professional appearance or when I am mocking up design work.
Fashion/Textiles
Lastly, I moved on to the final workshop which was fashion/textiles which was very similar to graphics in terms of completing 3 small exercises. Instead of looking at different techniques to re-create our objects, this workshop looked at how we could communicate the physical feel of an object through media and technique by touching/feeling.
The 3 exercises were:
Overlapped continuous line drawings using pencil, chalk and pastel using our weak hands
Eyes closed drawing
Step-by-step instructed drawing by a peer
Stage 1:
For the first exercise, I used 3 media ’s: starting with pencil, then chalk and then pastel to create layered continuous line drawings of my object. Right away, I was faced with problems when trying to draw with my weak hand...I found this a huge struggle due to my weak hand feeling very unnatural and having very limited control. This was reflected in my outcome because of each drawing being very unproportionate and badly constructed. However, with the drawings overlapped, the outcome becomes alot more interesting due to the continuous line being very different in each.
Straight away, this workshop had been the most difficult having being faced with two techniques of drawing I am not keen on in one go.
Stage 2:
Next, using 1 of the 3 media’s, I started to draw another one of my objects (lightbulb) this time with my eyes closed, using my hands to identify parts, shapes. If this wasn’ t hard enough, I was also tryna to communicate my object’s texture within my drawing. My object was a lightbulb, meaning it was very smooth therefore I used pastel and smudged it with my finger. Again, I found this process very painful because I kept feeling the need to look at the paper to recall where I was and didn’t like the idea of not looking as I like my work to look like the object I’m drawing.
Stage 3:
Having struggled on stage 2 and people cheating by opening their eyes, the final stage was a technique in which were given instructions on drawing an object by a peer. This was very hard when explaining and drawing. When explaining, I found it extremely hard to explain what movements to take to try and make my peer create a drawing as realistic as possible. On the other hand, it was also tough following instructions due to some of them not being clear and not knowing what they meant by something whilst trying to keep everything in proportion and in line.

the issue is that toilet symbols have a style thats really goddamn restrictive so it’s difficult to convey like, hiding in a toilet stall waiting for others to leave so you can leave w/o being seen, or deliberately changing your gender presentation (even if it makes you less comfortable) in order to get safe passage into a toilet. its difficult to convey that nuance.
tho she did suggest making the person symbol coloured in (perhaps with the flag, which means id probably have to use the GQ flag if its on a black bg, but could use the nb if its on blue) which would allow me greater freedom to design the specific character (even if that character is literally just me, you fuck). idk. i did have a sketch of me hiding in the mens toilets in fear but bc of the style, it ends up looking almost voyeuristic. like instead of an nb person checking to see if anyones in the toilets before entering, they’re deliberaely tryna scope some dick. which is. the opposite of me, in every way.
i might take a second crack at that one because w/ the colour elemet i THINK i could convey me hiding in a toilet stall while like. idk a male figure yells outside. i think i could take a stab at that. how to convey the femme one is the issue though, because im... mostly comfortable in the ladies. just cause ive been there my whole life. if i get to pick i pick that one, right, i dont need urinals. could just replace the symbols w like. smth showing that are no urinals, maybe?????? i dont know. its really tough to convey the way i interact with womens toilets in a social way since im closeted and cis passing to fuck, right, like p much everyone thinks im a girl, much as that blows. i dont really pretty myself up to get in... its more of like.... a deep discontent. the nagging fear that someone will know im not supposed to be there. that someone will notice the way i carry myself and the way i talk and go ‘you arent a woman!’. even if i doubt that would happen (just like how i doubt a man would actually try to assault me in the university toilet in broad ass daylight) its still there, thats how anxiety is, just nagging away about shit you know wont happen but do you really know if it wont happen, can you be sure, no you cant!!! so i guess i could just do a repeat of the above male one and have it still be me hiding in the stall while a female figure yells at the door. emphasise the feeling of disconnect from both areas.
i guess??? i dont know??? i dont want to do what the teacher is asking me to do because it doesnt reflect my experience of taking a fucking piss. i want to do my own thing. thats what art is. this is about how i perceive the world as a result of my position. my person. my identity, etc, etc. hhhh
#cis people drive me fucking insane#pro tip - if youre closeted do not do a personal art work revolving around it where your supervisor is cishet#you will want to fucking scream. you gotta have some good fucking teachers or be able to run off spite alone#spites whats keeping me going here yall its pure fucking spite

Appearing before the Dramacourt: The Universe’s Star EP 01
***If this is your first time browsing The Drama Files, please read The Rules section first for our reviewing and rating system***
Issues:
Whether this particular take on Reapers is hilarious.
Whether being asked to write love songs while not actually being allowed to experience love is realistic.
Whether the friendship between the Ghost and the Reaper is believable.
Whether it was right for Suho to seem like a secondary character when he’s actually the male lead.
Whether this drama caters to a real fan girl fantasy?
The Rule(s):
Absolutely. This drama does not fall short in its interpretation of a Reaper’s lifestyle.
Hell No! It makes absolutely no sense that these poor kids are being forced to write love songs when never actually having experienced it at all. In what universe (LOL!) is this realistic?
Totally. As people who are fangirls and have BFFs who are fangirls as well, we totally feel the ‘realness’ of these two girls’ friendship!
Not really. But then again, the female lead is really really good, so his whole ‘rich idol schtick’ tends to fly under the radar.
Totally. What fangirl doesn’t want to save their bias from impending death?
Analysis:
RedRosette J: Hey Peeps! We’re back with another new review! This time we decided to review this mini-drama within a mini-drama (?). Its part of the Three Colour Fantasy series that aired (some are still airing) somewhere between February and April this year (this drama is the colour White). Right off the bat, the first drama, The Universe’s Star, totally won us over. Probably because most of the dramas have been absolute crap recently *cough Hwarang cough* and we just didn’t want to waste time on the longer ones. But if you guys have been reading our reviews, you’ll know that its really hard to win our favour and this drama did! I binged this drama on a Sunday night and let me tell you, it has been awhile since a drama has given me that ‘I don’t know what to do with myself’ feeling once it ended, but this drama did. 90% of this drama was great and I loved almost everything about it.
Jubiemon J: I actually finished this drama earlier than RedRosete who insisted on waiting till the series was over until she’d watch it. I really enjoyed the drama series overall. The cinematography is amazing and the plot is intricate. The director/writer (she took the two roles) was amazing with her work! She has a very recognisable film style which is very beautiful and artsy. I loved it. Anyway, I’ll focus my comments on ep 1 later on.
RedRosette J: Perhaps the biggest thing was that it was written and directed by Kim Ji Hyun, the genius behind Splish Splash Love (such an amazing drama btw). The cinematography was beautiful; absolutely breathtaking shots with a very nostalgic vibe. The script was very well written. The lead actress Ji Woo was really amazing as a underdog, loser, nerdy girl type that everyone loves to root for. She was really good in bringing the cringe to awkward interactions with the male lead and sold us on her inferiority complex. The side characters were played by pretty seasoned actors so the quality shone through. They may have been on screen for a few minutes, but they were already very well developed and well portrayed.
My only criticism for this drama was the male lead, Suho. The character was a bit bland and the obvious ‘perfect goody goody idol who’s really a boy next door’ type and I felt like he really couldn’t or didn’t bring much else to the table. There were some comedic moments which he did very well (he should seriously consider slapstick roles), but I felt like overall, the bulk of the romance was carried by the female lead. It might have had to do with the fact that Suho was a newbie actor, I don’t know, but something was definitely lacking. But other than that, it was a really well done drama.
Jubiemon J: I actually think the director was really smart making sure that the writing and filming of this drama compensated Suho’s lack of experience in acting. From episode one, we understand Woojoo (Suho’s character) from the female protagonist’s POV. She is the one admiring him from afar and letting us understand him. In a way, we’re spoon fed Woojoo’s personality like how an author would descriptively write about a character in a novel. We don’t understand Woojoo initially from his actions or behaviour. We’re pretty much told what he’s like because of her. That storytelling technique works perfectly not only because this drama is about a fan loving an idol, but also because we won’t be able to see Suho potentially act in a cringy manner.
I don’t think Suho’s character was a huge negative to this drama and I don’t think the director cast the wrong actor. Suho does fit the clean, proper idol image very well; I think as an EXO member people do see him as the boy next door with great manners. I do get a sense that either Suho may not be very experienced in love in real life, he just is not a very expressive person in love, or he may not have loved someone very deeply on a romantic level. I say that because although he is great at showing his feelings of unrequited love or acting nervous/shy around his crush, he is not so believable when it comes to the lovey dovey moments he shares with Byul (I’ll probably talk about that later.)
She dead…
LMAO!
Snippets of truth
How gorgeous is that?!?
Stealing puppies and hearts like…
She’s a really good actress!
Issue 1: Whether this particular take on Reapers is hilarious
RedRosette J: Lately, the dramaverse has been giving out really awesome interpretations of Reapers (Lee Dong Wook in Goblin anyone?) and this drama certainly doesn’t fall short. I liked how they had to put on the fake makeup to look more “dead” and they wore the hanbok style outfit like a uniform. I loved how it was all super bureaucratic with a Manager and a Scorecard board. Hilarious. (Just like real life). I loved the sentiment that even in death, competition and targets are a real deal. It was also funny how the reapers were rewarded according to how many souls they reaped; which was why Byul was on the bicycle having very low stats and the hoobae guy drove a fancy black car. You could feel the pressure on the Reapers to work hard and the lack of cooperation of the dead people, just like a real life client relationship LOL! It was really well written for such a short drama.
Jubiemon J: I liked this fresh approach to grim reapers. I didn’t feel like I was watching a rehash of the reapers from Goblin, which was a plus. I did like how they made it seem like a company thing and the company culture was not as formal as the one in Goblin. I really enjoyed the bickering among the employees and the gossiping. That was hilarious!
#brokeassreaper
#worklunch
When your co-worker drops a bomb on you…
Job stability is an issue even in death *sigh*
Issue 2: Whether being asked to write love songs while not actually being allowed to experience love is realistic
RedRosette J: Finally! a drama is actually openly addressing this dilemma. For anyone familiar with Kpop, you know that the idol trainees usually aren’t allowed to date which is completely insane because then they are expected to sing and write songs about romance and love which they know nothing about. Especially because most become trainees when they are very very young! It is completely unrealistic and the stupidest rule ever. Kudos to this drama for bringing it up!
Jubiemon J: Yes it’s completely unrealistic for idols to sing or write about love songs and not even get a chance to experience love. How are we supposed to be convinced about what they’re singing or writing? That’s why I don’t think it’s bad at all for idols to date. They should! They’re normal human beings with other emotional needs.
RedRosette J Aside: This is just a bonus and totally unrelated to the drama but BTS actually roasted their boss on a Christmas parody song about this no dating rule! Skip to 1.08 for the lyrics! )
Issue 3: Whether the friendship between the Ghost and the Reaper is believable.
RedRosette J: Totally. I love these two! Death didn’t stop them from being fan girls! Honestly, as a fan girl myself, I totally understand the friendship with another fan girl; its a weird sort of understanding…it’s difficult to describe….But anyway, these two were a total hoot! Especially when they “stalked” him to “protect” him. Very well done!
Jubiemon J: They’re so cute together! I feel like Redrosette and I sometimes have very similar conversations as these two regarding our favourite idols! Hahaha! Of course we don’t stalk our idols though. These two . . . . Hahaha.
BFFs
When you tryna stop your BFF from doing stupid stuff
When you lying about being sick to get off work
#realtalk
Issue 4: Whether it was right for Suho to seem like a secondary character when he’s actually the male lead
RedRosette J: It’s odd but this drama really focuses on the female lead and even when we do see the male lead, its really with a preconception of what he is like because we’ve already been introduced to him through her eyes. He also didn’t say or do much and his acting range was quite minimal so its hard to judge exactly what was wrong with the character, but something was just off. I wish that they’d cast a more seasoned actor for the role because it would have brought the added connection to the romance. I wasn’t really sold on Suho selling us the romance. It really fell flat for me and I just couldn’t feel the sincerity from him so it really didn’t feel like he was the male lead if you will. Sorry. But hey, at least he’s so so so much better than Baekhyun so….there is that.
Jubiemon J: Ah, I talked about this earlier, so I’ll be brief. I think it was right for Suho to seem like a secondary character in the first episode. She’s a fan, so she has to love from afar. It’s not realistic for a fan to suddenly meet an idol and bam they’re in love. You can also feel the strength of her love for him as an idol through this way of storytelling. Plus, as I mentioned before, since Suho doesn’t have much experience in acting, this storytelling works in favour for him. There’s not really an opportunity for him to suck at acting because he is doing what he’d probably do every day as an idol.
*cue First Love – BTS (Suga)*
Bunnies and Suho. Yes Please.
Issue 5: Whether this drama caters to a real fan girl/fan boy fantasy
RedRosette J: Absolutely. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve had my fair share of fan girl fantasies so this drama is right up that alley. And she sold it very well. I mean coming back from death to save the pop star you had a crush on only to have him actually fall in love with you? Yeah. That’s where its at.
Jubiemon J: So true. I think any fan girl/fan boy would be able to understand how Byul feels!
When your crush sits next you O.O
hubba hubba
Conclusion: Appeal Allowed.
Rating: 4 = I’ll Give You A Cookie (It’s been awhile since anyone got cookies from us, but this episode totally deserves it! In fact, take 2 cookies!)
