On the one hand I was relieved to learn about how absolutely awfully Trump tanked that debate. Get dunked on, you fucking racist asshole. Spreading lies about Haitian immigrants like that, how dare you. And "concepts of a plan"? Seriously? The incompetence is staggering.
On the other hand... Ms. Harris ma'am your running mate literally did sign legislation last year repealing the laws protecting infants born alive after an abortion attempt in Minnesota. Now medical professionals are only required to provide comfort, not try to save the kid's life.
So like... they're not actively executing the babies, but it is legal to leave them to die in Minnesota. Like that is actually a thing.

i have been going through things to an exceptionally impressive degree on like three separate fronts over the last week. and i finally got done losing my mind about it today and instead turned all my despair into committing several malicious acts. none of which i regret bc the people who will and are suffering as a consequence of my actions all fucking deserve it.

trump shouting the quiet part into a megaphone two days before the georgia runoffs is KILLING me. like this is clearly a very sad very old very rapidly neurologically deteriorating man who has been surrounding himself exclusively with people who just nod indulgently with "ok sure that's all definitely true granpa now let's get you to bed" to everything for so long that he Actually Fully Believes that he has been cheated. and also that the general public loves hearing him Say Things and is on his side. and it is. DELIGHTFUL. i know the actual thing he said was serious and scary and should not be downplayed but that's Why this is so fun. it's so inexcusable and antithetical to not just average american culture but also Specifically Republican Values that it's wreaking HAVOC on the party atm. the way i KNOW that the repubs who play the game properly are shitting their pants and sobbing and suffering migraines and throwing up over twitter calls-to-action and making desperate phone calls screaming "WHO LET HIM HAVE ACCESS TO A PHONE, WHO LET THAT HAPPEN, TAKE IT AWAY, TAKE IT AWAY!!!!!!!" to whichever strategists will listen.... oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. i am basking in it. soaking it all in. i love this song
i do take the little joys where i can get them.

struggling with how to word this, but putting it out there anyway:
i can fully understand the posts on here from a lot of americans being tired of "vote blue no matter who" posts when the #1 thing that people are constantly (and sometimes only?) addressing is how the republican party is going treat trans/queer people if elected.
it's part of an unfortunate pattern of prioritizing the effects on a demographic that includes white + upper class people, when people of color and those in the global south are actively and currently being killed or relegated to circumstances in which their survival is very unlikely
it is genuinely exhausting to witness this, and i was also on the fence about even participating in voting because i a) felt like it didn't matter and b) every time i voiced being frustrated with the current state of the country, white queer people would immediately step in with "but what about trans people!" -> (i am mixed race trans man)
and i say this with unending patience toward people who do this, because i know that it's not something they actively think about. but everyone already knows how the republican party is going to treat queer people. you are probably talking to another queer person when you bring up project 2025. the issue is that, for those of us who aren't white, or for those of us who are but who are conscious of ongoing struggles for people of color worldwide, the safety of people around the world feels more urgent than our own. that is the calculation that's being made.
you're not going to win votes for the democratic party by dismissing or minimizing these realities and by continually centering (white) queer people.
very few people on here and twitter are actually talking about issues beyond queer rights that concern people of color, or how the two administrations differ on these issues instead of constantly circling back to single-issue politics. this isn't an exhaustive list. but these are the issues that have actually altered my perspective and motivated me to the point of committing to casting a vote
the biden administration has been engaged in a years-long fight to allow new applicants to DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, the program that allows undocumented individuals who arrived as children to remain in the country) after the Trump administration attempted to terminate it. the program is in limbo currently because of the actions of Trump-backed judges, with those who applied before the ruling being allowed to stay, but no new applications are being processed. Trump has repeatedly toyed with the idea of just deporting the 1.8 million people, but he continues to change his mind depending on whatever the fuck goes on in his head. he cannot be relied on to be sympathetic toward people of hispanic descent or to guarantee that DREAMers will be allowed stay in the country. biden + a democratic controlled congress will allow legal challenges to the DACA moratorium to gain ground.
the biden administration is open to returning and protecting portions of culturally important indigenous land in a way that the trump administration absolutely does not give a fuck. as of may 2024, they have established seven national monuments with plans to expand the San Gabriel Monument where the Gabrielino, Kizh / Tongva, the Chumash, Kitanemuk, Serrano, and Tataviam reside. the Berryessa Snow Mountain is also on the list, as a sacred region to the Patwin.
i'm recognizing that the US's plans for clean energy have often come into conflict with tribal sovereignty, and the biden administration could absolutely do better in navigating this. but the unfortunate dichotomy is that there would be zero commitment or investment in clean energy under a trump-led government, which poses an astounding existential threat and destabilizing force to the global south beyond any human-to-human conflict. climate change has caused and will continue to cause resource shortages, greater natural disasters, and near-lethal living conditions for those in the tropics - and the actions of the highest energy consumers (US) are to blame. biden has funneled billions of dollars into climate change mitigation and clean energy generation - trump does not believe that any of it matters.
i may circle back to this and add more as it comes up, but i'm hoping that those who are skeptical / discouraged / tired of the white queer-centric discourse on tumblr and twitter can at least process some of this. please feel free to add more articles + points but i'm asking for the sake of this post to please focus on issues that affect people of color.

Donald Trump Faces Several Investigations. Here’s Where They Stand.
Mr. Trump has been indicted in Manhattan, and federal and state prosecutors elsewhere have opened a number of investigations.
June 1, 2023
In Manhattan, Mr. Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts related to his role in what prosecutors described as a hush-money scheme to cover up a potential sex scandal in order to clear his path to the presidency in 2016.
In Washington, federal prosecutors working for Jack Smith, the special counsel for the Trump inquiries, have been focused on whether Mr. Trump obstructed the government’s efforts to retrieve a trove of classified documents he took from the White House. Investigators now appear to be trying to determine whether (he) sought to interfere with the attempt to obtain security-camera footage from Mar-a-Lago.
Mr. Smith is also examining Mr. Trump’s efforts to reverse his defeat at the polls in 2020 and his role in the events that led to the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
And a Georgia prosecutor is in the final stages of an investigation into Mr. Trump’s attempts to reverse the election results in that state.
Here is where the notable inquiries involving the former president stand.
Manhattan Criminal Case
The Manhattan district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, brought the case over Mr. Trump’s role in a hush-money payment to a porn star, Stormy Daniels, who was poised during the campaign to go public with her story of a sexual encounter with him....While paying hush money is not inherently criminal, Mr. Bragg accused Mr. Trump of falsifying records related to the payments and the reimbursement of Mr. Cohen, who is expected to serve as the prosecution’s star witness.....Mr. Trump is running for president again, and the case is scheduled to go to trial in March, when the campaign will be in full swing. Mr. Trump has referred to Mr. Bragg, who is Black and a Democrat, as a “racist” who is carrying out a politically motivated “witch hunt.” Before the indictment, he made threatening statements reminiscent of his posts in the days before the attack on the U.S. Capitol in 2021.
In late 2022, Mr. Bragg’s prosecutors won a conviction of the Trump Organization when a jury found the business guilty of multiple felonies related to a long-running tax fraud scheme. The company’s veteran chief financial officer, Allen H. Weisselberg, pleaded guilty in the scheme and served time at the Rikers Island jail complex.
Classified Documents Inquiry
Mr. Smith, the special counsel appointed by the Justice Department to oversee its inquiries into the former president, is conducting a criminal investigation into Mr. Trump’s handling of sensitive government documents he took with him when he left office and whether he obstructed efforts to recover them. For more than a year, Mr. Trump repeatedly resisted the federal government’s efforts, including a subpoena, to retrieve classified and sensitive material still in his possession...
The warrant used to justify the search detailed three criminal laws: the Espionage Act, which criminalizes the unauthorized retention of national security secrets; an obstruction statute; and a ban on the willful and unlawful concealment, removal, mutilation, falsification or destruction of government documents.....The Justice Department has suggested that the classified materials stored at Mr. Trump’s residence were most likely concealed and moved as the government sought to recover them...In total, the government has recovered more than 300 documents with classified markings
In her ruling on the issue, the district court judge, Beryl A. Howell, noted that prosecutors had made “a prima facie showing that the former president committed criminal violations,” according to people familiar with the decision. It remains unclear whether Mr. Trump will be charged in the case, though Mr. Smith’s investigation appears to be in its final stages.
Prosecutors obtained a recording of Mr. Trump from 2021 discussing a sensitive military document he kept after leaving the White House. In the recording, Mr. Trump suggested he knew the document was secret and had not declassified it, a person briefed on the matter said.
New York State Civil Inquiry
In a September lawsuit, the New York attorney general, Letitia James, accused Mr. Trump of lying to lenders and insurers by fraudulently overvaluing his assets by billions of dollars. Ms. James is seeking to bar the Trumps, including Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka, from running a business in New York again......She has already successfully requested that a judge appoint an independent monitor to oversee the Trump Organization’s use of its annual financial statements — in which, the attorney general says in her suit, the company overvalued its assets....Ms. James’s investigators recently questioned Mr. Trump under oath, and a trial is scheduled for October.
Georgia Criminal Inquiry
Prosecutors in Georgia recently indicated that they would announce indictments in the first half of August in their investigation of Mr. Trump and some of his allies over their efforts to interfere with the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state. Mr. Trump and his associates had numerous interactions with Georgia officials after the election, including a call in which he urged the secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, to “find 11,780 votes,” the number he would have needed to overcome President Biden’s lead there. Legal experts say that Mr. Trump and others appear to be at “substantial risk” of prosecution for violating a number of Georgia statutes, including the state’s racketeering law.
A special grand jury was impaneled in May of last year in Fulton County, and it heard testimony from 75 witnesses behind closed doors over a series of months. The jurors produced a final report, but the most important elements of it — including recommendations on who should be indicted and on what charges — remain under seal....Ms. Willis will ultimately decide what charges to seek and then bring them before a regular grand jury. She recently indicated that she would do so during the first three weeks of August.
Jan. 6 Inquiries
A House committee investigating the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol spent a year and a half examining the role that Mr. Trump and his allies played in his efforts to hold on to power after his electoral defeat in November 2020. In December, the committee issued an 845-page report concluding that Mr. Trump and some of his associates had devised “a multipart plan to overturn the 2020 presidential election” and disclosing in exhaustive detail the events that led to the attack on the Capitol. The panel also accused Mr. Trump of inciting insurrection and conspiracy to defraud the United States, among other federal crimes, and referred him and some of his allies to the Justice Department for possible prosecution. The referrals were largely symbolic, but they sent a powerful signal that a bipartisan committee of Congress believed the former president had committed crimes.
Mr. Smith’s office has been conducting its own investigation into Mr. Trump’s attempts to overturn the election, building on months of work by other federal prosecutors in Washington who have also filed charges against nearly 1,000 people who took part in the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
The special counsel’s office has focused its attention on a wide array of schemes that Mr. Trump and his allies used to try to stave off defeat, among them a plan to create false slates of pro-Trump electors in key swing states that were won by Mr. Biden. Prosecutors under Mr. Smith have also sought information about Mr. Trump’s main fund-raising operation after the election. The special counsel’s office has recently won important legal battles in its inquiry as judges in Washington have issued rulings forcing top Trump administration officials like former Vice President Mike Pence and the former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to testify in front of a grand jury. It is unclear what charges, if any, might come from the federal investigation.

Lawrence O'Donnell Predicts Exact Date Donald Trump Will Have 'Worst' Campaign Day Ever
Former President Donald Trump is about to have his worst campaign day ever, Lawrence O’Donnell predicted on Thursday.
In fact, the host of MSNBC’s “Last Word” warned it will be the “worst day a presidential campaign has ever had.”
When? On Sept. 26, said O’Donnell.
That’s the deadline that U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, on Thursday, set for special counsel Jack Smith to file “his full evidentiary argument, in writing, about why Donald Trump can be charged with federal crimes” in his federal election interference case “even though the Supreme Court created a new presidential immunity from criminal charges for some of what Donald Trump did to overthrow the election results,” said O’Donnell.
Trump “will be the first presidential candidate in history to have a federal prosecutor outline in detail, in writing, including, possibly, secret material from a grand jury describing Donald Trump’s federal crimes that the prosecutor says Donald Trump committed to overthrow the will of the American people in the last presidential election,” he explained.
It’s a “very bad day coming” for Trump, said O’Donnell.

This type of messaging is highly polarizing, likely to evoke strong reactions across the political spectrum.
This satirical design plays on Donald Trump's presidency and potential future candidacy, combining humor with political commentary. The numbers "45" and "47" refer to Trump's status as the 45th president and his potential to become the 47th if re-elected in 2024.
The phrase "Vote For The Felon" is a provocative reference to Trump's legal issues, turning them into a tongue-in-cheek campaign slogan. This wording is likely displayed prominently, possibly in a bold, eye-catching font.
The design may feature caricatures of Trump, perhaps depicting him in an exaggerated prison uniform or with comical facial expressions. It might incorporate elements like mock campaign buttons, ballot boxes, or courtroom imagery to further the satirical theme.

Americans, these are things we are NOT saying in 2024:
"Voting blue won't solve anything." Yes it will: if enough of us do it, it will solve a problem called Trump's second term in the White House. We unfortunately live in a two-party system. If you refuse to vote, you're effectively voting for Trump. I shouldn't need to explain this to people, yet here we are.
"It doesn't matter who's president. Both candidates are the same anyway." No, they are REALLY not. Biden was never my first choice, and his shipments of arms to Israel are despicable, but don't try to tell me even for a second that a second Trump term would be the same for the world as a second Biden term.
"But voting blue won't fix [fundamental underlying problem in America]." Voting for Democrats cannot fix every issue, this is true. But by saying this and ONLY this you are discouraging people from voting by making them feel hopeless. Voting is one of many tools in our arsenal, not the only tool, but an important one, and it does matter.
"You shouldn't vote blue, you should do [other thing] instead." See above: you can vote and protest and organize at the same time. It's not either/or. You can do it all. Stop discouraging voters from exercising their rights under the guise of leftism.
"Voting is just legitimizing government power. It makes you part of the system." Literally just shut up. Women and people of color didn't fight for their voting rights to have you say things like this. If you live in America and you can legally vote, then you should fucking vote, and vote blue. There is no neutral option.
"Voting blue just makes you complicit in [this bad policy]." Inaction, and allowing Trump to have a second term, is worse for the entire world than any Democrat policy. Yes, even that one. Voting is not about finding a perfect unproblematic candidate. It is about choosing the lesser of two evils.
"Voting doesn't work because—" STOP IT. STOP DISCOURAGING PEOPLE FROM VOTING.
You know who wants you NOT to vote? Trump supporters, that's who. You should be suspicious of ANYONE who is suggesting that your vote doesn't matter, or that both candidates are the same, or that Biden's policy on XYZ means you shouldn't vote for him. Trump supporters aren't trying to get your vote by saying, "Vote for Trump!" They're trying to get your vote by DISCOURAGING YOU FROM VOTING AT ALL.
I don't like Biden either, but Trump is unequivocally worse. Voting doesn't fix everything, but it is the minimum fucking requirement of living in a democracy. Voting for president has real, tangible, immediate impacts on people's lives, and choosing not to vote is not the rebellion you think it is, it is just relinquishing your voice. So fucking vote. THIS IS A GROUP PROJECT AND DAMN IT WE ARE NOT FAILING BECAUSE OF YOU.
