One fun fact about the hairy octopus is that it can not only control its color, but also how hairy it looks to perfectly match its surroundings!

 Фронтон - дикий пляж расположенный в 7 километрах от рыбацкого городка Лас Галерас на северо-востоке полуострова Самана, Доминикане. Фронтон порадует ценителей нетронутой природы и отдыха вдали от цивилизации. Со стороны суши пляж окружён тропическим лесом и скалами. Отдельные утёсы достигают 120 метров в высоту. Фронтон – необитаемый уголок Доминиканы. Люди здесь не живут. Зато полно игуан, птиц и подводных обитателей. В многочисленных пещерах также живут летучие мыши.

И хотя пляж Фронтон изолирован от стандартных туристических маршрутов и не располагает привычными удобствами, он продолжает пользоваться спросом. Частыми гостями этого места становятся те, кто хочет заняться дайвингом . Вдоль берега простирается коралловый риф, который и привлекают ныряльщиков. Чистейшая прозрачная вода с максимальной видимостью создает оптический обман. Кажется, что глубина совсем маленькая, а на самом деле в районе пляжа Фронтон идет резкий подводный обрыв. Сразу за  коралловым рифом начинается открытый океан и глубина – от 500 метров!

Fronton is a wild beach located 7 kilometers from the fishing town of Las Galeras in the northeast of the Samana Peninsula, Dominican Republic. It seems that the depth is very shallow, but in fact there is a sharp underwater cliff in the area of ​​Fronton Beach. Immediately behind the coral reef, the open ocean begins and the depth starts from 500 meters!

Lobster and lobster-adjacent creature appreciation post

My boyfriend recently got me a book on tropical reef creatures, and while the entire thing is marvelous, it has given me a particular appreciation for the wide variety of lobsters and lobster-like crustaceans in the world.

Reef lobsters! These guys look like you they would kindly offer you directions if you looked lost.

Slipper lobsters! Rounded creatures, these are.

I feel like a lot of people have seen rock lobsters, but these ornate rock lobsters have such beautiful colouring.

Squat lobsters! Their bodies are round, and their claws are ready! to! grab! things!

As for the spider lobsters? I don't know what is going on with these guys but I love them! 10/10 design.

🐠 Daily Fish Fact: 🐠

Adult Queen Angelfish are selective feeders and primarily eat sponges. Their social structure consists of harems which include one male and up to four females. They live within a territory where the females forage separately and are tended to by the male. Breeding in the species occurs near a full moon.

Juvenile pinnate batfish. The strikingly colored young look nothing like adults because they mimic a species of toxic flatworms to protect themselves from predators. Often found hiding in mangroves and coral reefs, batfish have sharp little teeth and eat algae and jellyfish.
