Snippet Sunday
Tumblr media
It's Sunday, Sunday, Sunday which means it's sneak peek time! (I don't know where that energy is coming from just roll with it)
I'm working on finishing the final act of Stowaway and also editing the rest of act two, which will look like a huge update but in reality there's just a lot of quick POV shifts and it'll be about the same number of words as the last two updates.
Because sometimes a chapter is 8-10k and sometimes 6-11 chapters is 8-10k. *shrugs*
ANYWAY, this sneak peek snippet is one such bite sized chapters, staring Uncle Del!
----
“La Hidra has been hit, port and central engines lost, I am shifting power and refreshing the shield,” Trix’s calm voice was eerie over the din of battle and Old Earth classical rock galloping through the cockpit.
Delgado was fighting to maintain control over his ship as he careened toward Bradbury IV, “can you help keep us on course? I don’t want to lose the rook!”
“Si, si, Capitán Delgado,” Trix chirped, “you should know that enemy chatter has shifted. They are currently arguing on who will follow us to the Stormherald. They are calling the lieutenant a traitor and a spy.”
“What?” Delgado braced as they broke through the atmosphere, his vision filled with fire as they ripped through the upper layers.
“A scan of their systems show that one Major Palmer has levied the following charges against Lieutenant Benbow: disrespect toward superior commissioned officer, contempt toward officials, espionage, absence without leave, aiding the enemy, resisting arrest, mutiny, and thirty counts of murder.”
“Ay, our rook will fit right in!” Delgado joked as he tried to pull up on the throttle, “Trix please tell me we can avoid fusing with the bedrock.”
“Landing gears are operational and will activate in three…two…”
The ship rocked back hard as the thrusters engaged. The roar of the remaining engines died and the ship rattled terribly around Delgado as they moved toward the ground.
“We aren’t slowing enough!” he shouted.
“I cannot lower planetary gravity, Captain,” Trix said back matter-of-fact.
Delgado sighed through his nose, feeling the sass roll off the dry, robotic words. He grabbed his helmet and pulled it on, managing to get it secured and suit systems activated before La Hidra Dorada slammed belly first into the ground.

No. 6 desertfreak 2023
We were supposed to shoot something else on this day, plans got delayed and I reached out to Desertfreak and Desi who did the makeup to see if they were still down to shoot, if not the original plan, something else. Right before we started shooting I felt my confidence and inspiration completely drain from me, I secretly begged for everyone to cancel, I cursed myself for having pushed ahead with a shoot. Once we started shooting however I found that we were putting some great stuff together, for not having a strong plan I felt like this work made on the fly was really stunning. This shoot led us to what we did next together and as it turned out we’d shoot together three of my last four shoots this year.

New Toys!
During the last few weeks a couple of new items were added to the rolling stock roster of my model railway. As per usual I had totally forgotten having “pre-ordered” them over a year ago. Model train manufacturers tend to announce new future projects with an option for the customer to “pre-order”. This pre-ordering process gives the manufacturers a rough idea on how many model train enthusiasts…

Day 4: Cartoon // Winx Club
I was thinking about these prompts with a friend of mine, and for a cartoon, she suggested Winx. At first I was like yeah ok, maybe for the lols, but omg, the longer I thought about it the more perfect it became. A fairy of technology = Tecna!Robotnik, and a witch specializing in dark magic, trickery, and espionage = Darcy!Stone. Surprisingly perfect. 😂
Imagine how tall jimbotnik is in those heels. Like bitch, that's a motherfucking GIRAFFE. 🦒
Rambling:
Stone's face looks a bit derp. I like how Robotnik turned out, I like the suit, but Stone bugs me. The Trix Darcy make up didn't want to sit on his face. He does have his beard, which for some reason is something I tend to forget which would have made him look VERY weird. I tried to do one of those super exaggerated model-like poses they do in Winx, but I guess that just added to Stone's slight derpiness. But whatevs, it is a silly idea anyway.
Also fuuuuuck I need to post day 3 late. Big säd. :(

Okay so was finally able to find the creator of Trixie Hardfuse and unforunately they made a post asking people to not use her. So yeah No Trixe Hardfuse Model anymore :(
On the bright side, I think I'm just gonna make my own OC Goblin Girl, and maybe a Elf too. Cuz frankly Orange hair and green skin just look too good on a GobGirl.
Will probably make on-tw-Three! Three OC Goblin girls at most... Maybe.

My theory about you is that you only watch shows with an art style that you like, the plot could be either good or bad but what matters to you is the art style. That's also why you are so good with fanart (I am not projecting how dare you)
Actually kinda true in a way.
I didn't watch Gravity Falls earlier, because i thought that it was some dumb show for toddlers because of it artstyle, although i have seen it breefly few times, and i was like "Ughh this dumb show again" but then i saw picture of Bill and was like omg who is this i wanna learn more.
I also remember that tried to watch RWBY, but dropped in the middle of episode 1, because the way characters moved was just... no. I just couldn't watch it. I couln't concentrate on anything but the way characters were animated.
I DROPPED WINX WHEN THEY ADDED THAT UGLY 3D STYLE IN THE MIDDLE OF SEASON 5. And also because dark syrenix for the Trix looks just awful and ugly. The ship i hated was the THIRD reason. If it weren't for dark syrenix, i'd probably continued watching the season for little longer. AND I REFUSE TO WATCH SEASON 8 AND MY EYES BLEED EVERY TIME I SEE A SCREENSHOT FROM IT MOSTLY BECAUSE OF THIS NEW HORRIBLE ART STYLE. THAT'S NOT MY WINX CLUB, BURN IT. Also that stupid twist with Icy and her cursed siser like UGH no, that's NOT how you make backstory for your main villain.
(i should write an essay like "Bill Cipher and Icy. How to and how not to do a backstory for your main villain that seems to be evil for the sake of evil", but for that i have to watch winx season 8 probably. and i REFUSE.)
And i keep rewatching 2nd winx film JUST because Icy is SLAYING. BY GOD I WISH SHE STEPPED ON ME WITH THEM HEELS.
Tumblr media
Other things about this film are so mid. WELL I MEAN, FIGHTING SCENES ARE KINDA GOOD. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU WATCH IT AFTER SEASON 3, GOOD GOD, THAT WAS A PAINFUL SEASON. But the plot and other stuff is, well, it's ok. But the artstyle? Peak. Especially when you look at what they did with 3d in season 5, 7 (god it's ESPECIALLY ugly) and even are doing in reboot... why don't just use models from films whyyyyyy they were perfect... winx club was at it's peak in that film. After that - it was only getting worse and worse.
ehm. sorry, got carried away.
Soo i guess ur theory is actually correct, which is a surprise to me honestly. Never thought about it.

I'm kinda hoping that the designers ear what the fans want, they said is the not the final product so i think there is still hope(especially after the Trix desings being so loved by the fandom because they'are improvements of their old designs
it is truly insane to me that the fairy forms dont look sparkly
i really wish they wouldnt do the skintight spandex look for the winx. it works for the trix outfits which i think is why the response to them was so much more positive, but that kind of athletic material looks so bad for a fairy
i get that its easier and thats why miraculous does it too, but it looks BAD and winx needs to have good outfits. why even start over if youre just going to make the same mistakes
i honestly think people would be totally fine with the models if they just put more effort into the clothing.

Seraphina, 2023
San Francisco, early march with Seraphina who embodied this entire concept more wholly than I could have imagined. I could have chosen any image we shot this day, but I chose this one. The desire to show off all of them at once can only be tempered by somewhat arbitrarily choosing one image and sharing that first.

For Stowaway Savior I decided to give the four captains searching for the lost duo a model-a robot co-pilot to have their backs, as well as mentioning that Goose has one but she's being repaired when the crisis starts.
Each one of these model-a robots were liberated from abandoned outposts or found stored in UC outposts "liberated' by the Crimson Fleet. Their personalities were originally all blank, right out the box service robot mode but over time each one has/will develop an actual personality, similar to Vasco in the game.
The Crimson Bots program is the brainchild of Goose with Jazz's engineer's assistance. He wanted to pay tribute to Vasco as well as give the Fleet the edge he knew these model-a robots could bring.
So let's meet the bots?
Jinx is Starborn!Sam's co-pilot. On the surface is seems like a standard, Vasco-like model-a...until the various lessons and added programs kick in. Lila, Del, and Goose have all added delightful little mannerisms into Jinx's programming that expanded his knowledge as well as made him ornerier. Jinx loves to help his captain. Jinx also loves to piss him off.
Trix is Delgado's co-pilot. Flashier paint job but bland personality. Trix is the least modified in the personality department. They are very loyal and look out for their captain, trying hard to keep Del happy and calm. It's a thankless job and Trix is a superhero for trying.
Moonlight is Cooper's co-pilot. The newest Crimson Bot to come online, Moonlight hasn't found their true voice yet. They were given lessons based on Whiz's memory bank but no personality imprint. Seems to have a playful streak but nothing on the level of Jinx or Whiz. Very protective.
Whiz is Goose's co-pilot. She's a wise cracking model-a who can and will woop your ass if you look at her captain wrong. Currently out of commission in the Key's engineering bay and very worried about her captain.
Quirk is Lila's co-pilot. Quirk is...well Quirk. She came online when Whiz did and due to Lila's laizze faire approach to training and management has spent FAR too much time on the extranet. To say she cusses like a sailor would be an insult to foul mouthed sailors. She is very rude and has an extremely entitled, self-important, spoiled attitude. Lila believes she can reverse the damage through discipline and positive reinforcement...time will tell if she is right.

I see a lot of ppl complaining abt season 9 so i’m throwing my pointless two cents in. Sorry to suddenly be negative but 🤷
My thoughts
1. “The style is 3D!! Why didn’t they just use the old style!!!”
Idgaf about the style. It’s a reboot. It’s gonna look different than expected. The clothes. the characters, the transformation… So is the story.
2. Nabu this Nabu that
He’s dead, he’s been dead for 15 years, i thought we moved on from this? And of course he’s gonna come back for the next season! It’s a reboot, i have to keep repeating this! Yes he’s gonna come back! And hopefully duman but OF COURSE he’s irrelevant. / sarc
3. About the missing characters
Be patient, Iginio has a lot of other useless projects he’s working on. What we are getting currently is SNEAK PEAKS. He might not release the other models. I’m sure stormy, the wizards, roxy etc are all gonna come with time.
the rest of this will just be rambling
4. My personal thoughts
I’m super exited for this season! From what we see, the animation is flawless, the models, transformations, it all looks amazing! I’m so exited to see the trix, especially the wizards having their come back. I just want to see what we are given

Metor Shower (Part 26)
Darcy and Stormy take well to Chalcedony.
Better than she thought that they would.
Flora absolutely adores her.
Icy has to get used to the sound of her voice again.
Has to get used to presence again.
Presently, Chalcedony runs her fingers over the base of Icy’s guitar. “Can I?”
“No.” Icy snatches the guitar and holds it protectively to her chest and Chalcedony flinches.
“Don’t take it personally, she’s weirdly possessive of that thing she doesn’t even let us touch it.” Stormy assures.
“She’s like the only lead vocalist who actually helps the rest of the band pack in the gear.” Darcy adds. “Pros and cons, I guess.”
“This thing, is my favorite guitar. You can touch any of the other ones, not this one though.” She likes to bring at least three guitars to any given show; one plain black one, a plain midnight blue one and one of her special guitars. Among her favorites are the dark blue one with all of the faded band logo stickers—her very real first guitar, the one modeled to look like a ribcage, the one that looks something like a coffin, and the one that Chalcedony is staring at. The one that she made herself. Fashioned partially from magical ice that does not melt with a silvery fretboard and strings that glimmer as though they are coated with frost. Its tuner pegs are made of faux diamonds and jut out more like icicles than pegs. It’s body has a sleek and jagged shape and a color that shifts in the light appearing an inky blue for the most part but becomes nearly translucent when the stage lights hit it just right. And when she chooses to get flashy she can magically extend the bottom of it to create a startling fringe of icicles, a stack of ice cubes, or whatever other shape she is feeling for in that moment.
Chalcedony regards that guitar with a smile. “It’s really beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
She glances at Darcy’s bass guitar. She has only one. It is the one that she has been using since day one, it has gone through more repairs than she can count on her fingers—most of which had been minor tuning key repairs and quite a few aesthetic fics such as painting over dings and scratches to it’s plum purple paint. The make is nothing flashy—plain and sophisticated like the witch who strums it’s strings. It has a slight shimmer to it’s paint. Truthfully it doesn’t look like anything extraordinary. But a seasoned Trix fan could tell anyone that the original paint job—the one that is still mostly intact today—had been done using the paint that colored the coffins of the ancestral witches.
It is the same paint that decorates Stormy’s drumkit. Although Stormy has plastered that paint with various stickers from bands and brands that she adores. She likes to hang talismans and toys upon the symbols—the almost never make it to the end of a show. She also hot glued a few bones that she’d foraged from various forests to the paint. She hand painted the drumhead of the bass drum. Most remarkably she added lights to the bass drum that flash like lightning when she gives it a good pound.
Chalcedony reaches for Icy’s black guitar. “It’s heavier than it looks.”
Icy nods. “You have to get used to it.”
“I think that I’d be a great guitarist!” Bloom declares.
Icy rolls her eyes. “Yeah, maybe if you hold it right!”
“Huh?”
“You’re holding it in the wrong direction.” Icy sighs and takes the guitar from her and repositions it. “Your dominant hand is your strumming hand.”
“What is a strumming hand?”
“Typically, but not always, a strumming hand has a palm and five fingers. It is used to strum a guitar. It can sometimes be used for things other than strumming such as holding objects that are not guitars and slapping people who make you particularly angry.”
“Thanks. I sometimes forget what hands are. Can you tell me about elbows next.”
“Elbows generally aren’t good for guitar playing.”
“There is an implication there, that you have tried playing the guitar with your elbow.”
“I try a lot of things when I’m drunk.” And she has gotten drunk enough times to have tried playing the guitar with most parts of her body. “I don’t recommend trying with your tongue either, unless you enjoy hospital visits and the taste of blood. And the sound of Darcy’s voice scolding you for like an hour. And you can’t say anything back on account of your bleeding tongue.”
“That was such a fun night!” Stormy declares. “Except for the parts that weren’t fun.”
“You glued a drumstick to the the back of your head.” Darcy grumbles. “And then you got mad at me about your bald spot!”
“You weren’t supposed to cut out an entire chunk of my hair! Just the part with the drumstick stuck to it.”
“Yeah…an entire chunk of your hair!”
“I wish my band had adventures like yours.” Bloom gives the strings a few experimental plucks.
“No you don’t.” Darcy grumbles.
“I don’t know why my band isn’t fun like yours.”
“Because your band isn’t full of idiots.” Icy and Darcy say at once cuing an argument over which of the three has possession of the only scrap of brains in the band.
“We’re all our very own special type of dumb.” Stormy decides. “We all take turns sharing the band’s common sense. I usually get skipped though, I think.” She taps her chin. “Sometimes I just pass it along to Icy and Darcy.”
Bloom gives the guitar a few more plucks.
“It doesn’t sound like it does on stage.”
“Typically, when I’m on state I have my guitar plugged in.You see, the thing about electric guitars is that they need electricity to work properly. ”
“She’s really, really sassy.” Bloom says to Chalcedony. “Was she like this with MeTor?”
“Not at all.” Chalcedony says. “She was a sweetheart.”
Icy cringes and folds her arms across her chest.
“She and I were kind of known for that. I was the baby of the group. Kya had her moments though.” She pauses. “One time there was this guy who was getting a little handsy. I’ve never see Kya hit someone before but she sent him clear across the room.” She pauses. “Do the Winx have to deal with that?”
Bloom nods. “Sometimes. Mostly Stella and Layla. People get a little too enthusiastic about them. Tecna and I usually don’t have to deal with that as much. Or maybe our manager is just really good about keeping it away from us. But Tecna is online a lot so she sees a lot…”
“Do the Trix have to deal with that?”
“We’re witches, drugs, sex, rock ‘n roll. That’s kind of the image.” Darcy shrugs. “I rather like a little…spice.”
“It’s kind of annoying though. People see witches and goths and they get sexual about it, Darcy and Icy enjoy the leather and bondage aesthetics but I don’t. Not my thing so I try not to read those comments.”
“The Trix prefer not to rely on sex appeal and fantasies though.” Icy shrugs. “It’s tacky.”
“Not necessarily.” Darcy shrugs. “If you do it right, there’s an art to sensual music.”
Icy returns the shrug. “I place my priorities on the music itself. To answer your question; even if witches have a reputation for that sort of thing, most people wouldn’t dare. They know that we can hex them into oblivion and back and then to oblivion a second time. And then a third.”
“Sounds like a very different world from MeTor’s.” Chalcedony replies.
“Indeed.” Icy peers and Bloom and rubs her hands over her face. “No! No! Why did you switch it back to the other hand! You're supposed to…”
“Strum with my strumming hand. I know, I know. But my strumming hand was getting tired for strumming and my fret hand was getting tired of fretting and so…”
“You put the guitar down and take a break! You don’t resort to holding the guitar the wrong way! And your fret hand doesn’t get ‘tired of fretting’, it gets tired of holding the fretboard.”
“Well, yeah, that’s what fretting means—holding the fretboard.”
“Fretting is to dread or worry over something.” She does it enough to know. “For example, I am fretting over the way that you are handling my guitar right now and you have proven to me that you are not ready for the responsibility of guitar ownership.”
“My definition is right too! I knew you would say that so I looked it up!” She holds up her dictionary and points at the definition of fretting. “Say right here that fretting is when you press the strings of an instrument against the fret and also something about metalworking and decoration.”
“Ugg, whatever.” Icy grumbles. “I implore you to dedicate just as much time leaning to hold a guitar correctly as you have put into looking up vocabulary words.”
“So like two minutes? I’ve already invested at least five minutes into learning how to hold a guitar properly. I must be an overachiever!”
And so she has successfully roped herself into a half a day of teaching Bloom and, apparently, Chalcedony how to play the guitar. She doesn’t know how long Musa had been recording for, but she declares that it will be great material for a tour diary or a DVD if they decide to make some kind of documentary about either of their bands. Flora says that, if nothing else, it will be a nice thing to look back at one day.
Icy never replays any of the behind the scenes footage from her days in MeTor.
It is remarkably depressing.
Depressing to see all six of them ready to take on a future that would be stolen from them.
Depressing to see how happy she used to be. How hopeful and optimistic.
Depressing to see Diamond bright and glowing and full of chances.
Depressing to see her old, unaltered face.
Chalcedony says that she still has a few of those videos.
Chalcedony asks them if they want to watch them.
Icy doesn’t understand why she finds comfort in those videos.
Apparently she is just thankful that she had gotten to know Diamond at all. And that she doesn’t want to forget the sound of her voice. She says that she is glad that she doesn’t have to watch old backstage footage to remember what Kya sounds like.
“It is nice to hear your speaking voice again.” She comments.
Apparently her speaking voice and her heavy accent are just as recognizable as her singing voice now that Chalcedony knows to listen for it. Apparently, her speaking voice sounds exactly the same, if only a bit deeper.
.oOo.
“How are the other three?” Icy asks when they get a moment alone. Do they ever talk about me? The question sits heavy on her tongue but, whether they do or don’t think of her, she doesn’t actually want to know.
“They’re holding on. Things have been a bit rough for MeTor. I keep trying to tell Ruby that we can’t possibly be the biggest thing forever.” Chalcedony pauses. “Fame comes and it goes. We’ve been in the spotlight way longer than most bands have. It’s time to give a new generation of musicians their turn.” She pauses again. “Is it going to bother you?”
“Is what going to bother me?”
“The Trix is definitely at its peak. It’ll probably last for a good while be then…”
“The Trix started in the underground and to the underground we shall return. We belong there.” Icy replies. Although that is not strictly true, no band that is dug up from the dirt and breaks into the mainstream ever truly slips back into the underground. “And besides, it isn’t as though I haven’t already peaked and then…” slipped into complete obscurity and nothingness. “I like the underground, it’s quiet.”
Chalcedony nods. “Yeah. That makes sense. You always did kind of just keep to yourself and did your own thing.”
But she also has come to enjoy the spotlight again and the powerful feeling that being in the mainstream brings. She supposes that, that is just her problem she craves and adores attention as much as she savors the quietness of obscurity and the particular passion that can only be found in the underground scenes.
And so maybe the lifecycle of a band is a good thing; in a sense she can have it both ways. She can bask in the fame and the attention and all that fame can buy her and then the Trix can slip back into the more niche scenes where passion and art comes before anything else.
Her mind wanders to late nights sat in dingey bar stools laughing and clanking glasses with Darko and with Lucy and her gaggle of fellow groupies. She thinks of cigarette smoke and Lysa’s horrid drunken karaoke renditions of the Trix’s songs.
Sometimes she wishes that she hadn’t traded that.
She definitely wishes that she hadn’t done her pondering and reminiscing aloud for Chalcedony to form opinions on.
“I don’t think that you gave that stuff up. You can still talk with your original fanbase in smaller venues. I know that you probably have at least one bar that is so far underground that you can only discover it through word of mouth.”
“I do, yes.” Is she that much of a stereotype? Probably.
“Darko isn’t open to conversation.”
“People come and people go.” Chalcedony replies. “Sometimes you make a person so mad or let a person down so much that they never want to talk to you again.”
“Yeah.” Icy replies.
“Thank you for talking to me again.”
“Sure.”
“Are you going to…”
“No.” And Darko doesn’t have to talk to her again either.
.oOo.
MeTor wasn’t supposed to make it. The concept of popstars as jewels has been done and done again. But they are more than just gems, they are stars too, part of an ambitious attempt to incorporate a galactic theme into the crystalline theme. And so they each have two stage names; Kyanite is also Persei, Chalcedony is Pollux, Diamond is Alasia,  Ruby is Chara, Topaz is Zembra, and Goldstone is Castula.
Kaynite thinks that it is even more bold of them to have chosen Earth’s star names over those chosen in any of the magical realms. But then, the realms have been going through an Earth music era lately. Britney Spears, Destiny's Child, Roo’Ra, and Baby V.O.X. have somehow found their way into Magix’s culture.
And that is the true experiment of MeTor; to replicate and capture the essence of Earth music. They will fly like the celestial bodies that they are named for and travel across the galaxy, bringing music from one universe to the next.
They rise up so fast and so suddenly that they whiz past the likes of Gl!ttr!ng, leaving only a comet trail in their wake.
So fast and so suddenly that Kyanite can’t quite keep up, the fame is almost dizzying.
And with the fame comes a change in the way that people treat her.
Suddenly she was one of Mr. Francoli’s best dancers; he had, apparently, seen the potential in her from the very start.
Suddenly every instructor that she has worked with have always known that she would go very far with that voice of hers; that all of the girls in MeTor were particularly talented and that is precisely why they had been chosen for this experimental band—because they could take the concept and make it gleam. Not because they hadn’t made the cut for any of the established bands. Not because they had barely made it by when they attended the music academy.
She resents them for their lies.
For their audacity.
For making off as though they had never outright told she and Chalcedony in particular that they weren’t cut out for the music industry.
Sienna looks at her with begrudging respect and a whole lot of hatred.
Sienna likes to remind the press and Gl!tter!ng and MeTor’s fans alike that Chalcedony is a sensitive crybaby and that Kyanite is always eating until it becomes bad enough to infringe on the entire band’s image. Only then does Ruby tell her to cut it out. Only then does their manager step in for some damage control. Lest anyone get the sense that their favorite idols are anything less than perfect. Lest anyone know that their idols had ever had any period of imperfection in their lives.
Eventually, for a short a blissful period of time, even Kyanite begins to forget that she had ever been less than perfect. Anything other than what she is now.
But the names still stick.
Even if they are spoken with affection and with more endearing language; Chalcedony is sweet, shy, innocent, and pure it only makes sense for her to cry—she has such a good heart after all. And Kyanite is adorable, soft, squishy, and lovable—the band needs someone to contrast Diamond’s polished, conventional beauty.
For the most part, the label makes sure that the worst of the public’s words never reach their ears or show up in their virtual inboxes nor their shared postbox.
For the most part, Kyanite is allowed to bask in the illusion that she is finally perfect and that she always has been.
And for a woefully short period of time, Kyanite is truly happy. Truly happy and decently confident. Decently confident and thankful to have five new friends that she will be with until she has no voice left to sing with.
For a period of time, Kyanite is perfect.
Adored.
Envied.
Special.
A star. A gem.
But she is not a person.
