✶ mark is not one to admit when he wants a kiss. you would think being the leader of nct dream would make him more outspoken but with you, he becomes almost the complete opposite. not that he’s scared but he’s still learning how to not stare at your lips and just ask for a kiss. as for now, he’ll stare at your precious lips and smile mindlessly until you ask him if he wants a kiss :)

✶ renjun would drop small hints or be innuendo with kisses but not flat out say that he wants a kiss. would it lean to stubbornness? yes of course but it’s renjun so it’s okay. renjun would throw out his body is sore or how low the day has treated him, only ‘cause he knows you’ll spoil him with kisses. let any complaint or concern be said from renjun and you’re giving him a kiss on the cheek saying, “does that make it better?”. to answer for him, yes, yes it does

✶ lowkey resident babygirl of the relationship so expect an infinite, and I mean infinite, amount of pouts from jeno. he tries to put on this cool guy act for his fans but immediately melts around you, especially when he’s gifted with kisses. he will one day admit that he’s addicted to your kisses and wanna be smothered in them at all times. though, sometimes he does get impatient, if you’re busy, and sneaks a kiss from you himself

✶ there is no waiting, there is no “hold on”, when haechan wants, no demands, for a kiss, he wants one now. this man is so impatient and is always urged to kiss you himself but he knows that whatever you’re attending to is important as well. he is in love with your kisses but will never invade your space for a kiss. however, he can get extremely whiney when he is in the mood for some kisses. he’ll latch onto your body and pucker up the second you’re not busy

⤹ ⊹ na jaemin .ᐟ

✶ jaemin is always determined to get his kisses one way or another. not only that, he prefers feeding you with kisses but gets shy (and needy) when you kiss him. just one kiss would have jaemin smiling shly but also asking for one more. “please one more” and it’s never one more with na jaemin. even when you try to pull away and reject his pleas, he pulls you back for more and kisses you until your cheeks hurt from smiling so much. certain times, the kisses jaemin gives turn into something more ;)

✶ don’t ever tell chenle that you’re not busy cause he’s always ready to plop down on you and demand a kiss. in his head, you say, “I’m not doing anything” translates to “yes you can get some kisses” (idk the man just loves his kisses). also, he’s straightforward when it comes to kisses, chenle gets DOWNNN, he don’t play about his kisses! he will turn to beg for kisses but in the same breath, become slightly petty when you reject his pleas. he acts brokenhearted and denies your kisses when you decide to give him some. but we all know in his heart that he never wants you to stop kissing him

✶ everyday jisung prays that you become a mind reader so you can kiss him without having to hesitate. not because he’s too stubborn to ask for a kiss but because he is shy whenever it comes to affection. he doesn’t wanna come off as clingy or needy so he’ll just swallow up his needs for your kisses and take them whenever you feel like kissing him. though as your relationship grows, jisung becomes a bit bold as the days go by; it becomes more than often of him asking to kiss you. likewise, he’ll sneak in a cheek kiss when he’s admiring your beauty or kiss your forehead just because <3

Chapter Ten ~ The Winds Of Change

Halloween Special : Spoiler

“Sing, O spirits. Harken, all souls. I offer clarion to Humphrey and Hester Frump.” She recited, imitating the commanding voice her mother used every year. “Let me ransom you from the power of the grave. Tonight, O Death, let me be your plague.” The crystal ball started to cloud in a divine mist, opening a door between the worlds of the living and the dead, inviting the spirit of a relative through.

She could feel a presence, vague and distant but there. She carefully placed her fingers on the planchett, opening her mind to feel the pull. The candles flickered as she felt it in the room, awaiting her command. It felt different to every other time she’d been present for a séance; each spirit had a unique feeling. Where she would usually smell expensive soap and chloroform, this time she smelt sugar and burning calligraphy paper. Frowning slightly, (Y/N) reached out with her mind to greet them. “Grandmother? Is that you?” She asked, waiting for the presence to move the planchett tab.

She felt it pull to answer, fingers following it up the board. No.

“Grandfather?”

Again it answered – no.

She froze, every muscle in her body stopping still, sucking in a breath as she stared at the planchette beneath her fingers in alarm.

If this wasn’t her grandparents… then who did she make Contact with?

Aisha Campbell known children and oc children. Aisha got done dirty by the franchise. All of the Stone Canyon Trio did, but she was done dirty. At least now we know she did come back from the past fine, and is thriving but…man. She’s a great character and they did nothing new or interesting or explorative with her. And they still really aren’t? Can we get a proper comic for the Stone Canyon Trio that lets them really shine? I’m tired of the ones that seem to then focus on the originals or Matt last minute. Nothing against Matt. At least fanfiction can fix it but still.

Tommy Oliver;

While Aisha acknowledges Tommy as the leader, she doesn’t let him get away with shit. Uniquely while Kat and Kim and Trini didn’t either, Aisha and Tommy had just enough of a rivalry together that Tommy couldn’t quite dare to pull some things around Aisha. Aisha came after the whole “villain Tommy” and just knew him as the himbo dork who loved his friends and being a power ranger.

They never got married, but they do have kids together. Mostly they live with their lives revolving around each other and their kids, but never quite together together. Aisha didn’t think she could be whatever Tommy was looking for and Tommy knew he wasn’t that for Aisha either. But, they liked each other enough for kids, and they’re still good friends. It’s fairly amicable and flexible. They have twin daughters, Fillipa and Lucinda Campbell, aged sixteen.

Fillipa is older by eight hours. She’s into sword-dancing and gymnastics. Friendly to everyone, but doesn’t let anyone walk over her. Fillipa is the school class president, and helped set up a other species welcoming committee into the school. Other variations of humans, aliens, mutants, magical species, even androids, are welcomed and the committee helps incorporate them into the school into friend groups to encourage fellow classmates and teachers to treat these new classmates as normal people. It’s an uphill battle, but she thinks it’s worth it. Her running mate and best friend is a young Tenga queen named Clack, and both of them believe everyone could benefit from a friendship like theirs. It’s been bumpy but it’s somewhat working. At the very least it seems the current ranger team is made up of a wide range of species, and this makes Fillipa very very happy. Not associated with a color but if she were it’d be yellow.

Lucinda Campbell is a rodeo horseback rider, and does the Indian bareback racing and bronco riding. Aisha saw her daughter fall in love with mechanical bucking bronco rides at the mall, looked over at Tommy and went “if I see her as a red ranger later I’m blaming you.” Lucinda isn’t a red ranger.

She’s a green.

Hilariously neither Tommy nor Aisha seem to have realized this yet. Then again, the most green she wears is a green braided bracelet and socks. She loves her sister, and is grateful to her and Clack for being advocates for normalizing species integration, because she couldn’t possibly ask for a better team. They have each other’s backs, cover for each other, take part and enjoy each other’s hobbies, and she loves them all deeply. This is her team.

She’s not supposed to be doing anything with wild horses; she promised her parents not till she was in her 20’s. She’s also got such a skill with them now that if they saw her they’d instantly know she was a ranger. So, this is also a secret. At least good old uncle David’s willing to keep the secret. And offer advise to the team and his nieces when needed.

Kat Hillard;

Tommy wasn't the one who managed to break Kat out of the mind control; it was Aisha. Aisha and Kat both left the rangers, and Aisha chose Tina as her replacement. They got a job together at the animal shelter, and they adopted several years later as chaos reigned around them. They have one daughter, Natalie, aged fourteen. They adopted Natalie at birth. The girl is wise beyond her years, and often too serious, but she's also got wells of dry humor and likes teasing her moms. not associated with a color, probably better off for it.

Kimberly Hart;

They quickly became fast friends, and Aisha caught feelings for the pink really really quickly. However, she didn't say anything until Kim left the rangers and was replaced by Kat. She was going on scholarship, and they started a long distance relationship. Eventually they got married after Aisha herself retired from rangerdom. Together with Anubis Cruger, they founded SPD. The wives have one son, a wild card named Benedict "Ben" Campbell. Aged 24. Benedict is currently in Ranger Academy, and has broken nearly every rule so far. Just for fun, just to see what'll happen. He's not a bad guy, he just simply wants to test limits. Of both himself and the world around him. When he graduates school he will be a Pink Ranger on D Team.

Adam Park;

It was just natural for them to get together. They’ve been friends together since forever, they’ve always been friends and it progressing to a little bit more made sense. They got married a little after joining SPD together. They have four kids together. Wendell, aged 26, Rocky, aged 26, Koniqua, aged 19, and Jacqueline “Jaq” Park, aged 17.

No way they weren’t going to name one of their kids after their closest friend aside from each other. Rocky was best man at their wedding even. When they found out they were having twins they simply used the middle name they were intending for a boy for Wendell. Rocky’s the older by eight hours, Wendell was a more difficult pregnancy and took his time, which actually was a foreshadowing to the twins’ personalities.

Rocky Park is rambunctious and a goofball. He loves making people laugh. Like his mom he’s empathetic and strong willed. Like his dad he’s prone to flashes of intense introspection, but never for long. Surprises people with his love of classical music. He’s enthusiastic to the point of being intense. Can be hard for him to dial it back. He’s a yellow ranger for his team.

Wendell is everything Rocky is not, and is a little bit of a little shit. He's often not noticed by other people, and tends to use that to his advantage. He knows his brother is a yellow ranger, and while he's not a ranger, he takes the opportunity to tackle or ram cars or steal from the monsters of the week. he's not noticed and it gives other rangers openings usually. He's given Rocky everything he's stolen, and is pleased when they're incorporated into the team's arsenal.

Koniqua is a lover of poetry, fables, and the history of the power rangers. She's determined to be one of the scientists who creates a new team, or unlocks the mysteries of the grid for general use. Pragmatic, quick thinking, happy to help her dumb brothers. They don't think she knows. She knew who'd saved her as soon as Rocky said "you're safe now civilian" and tried to act dumb. She barely resisted the urge to call him out. Doesn't bother fighting the monsters, her brothers got that covered, but she does help get other civilians to safety when needed. not associated with a color. She's going into historical costuming, with the intention of working for tv productions.

Jaq would love to know why earth is so valuable to bad guys that they keep trying to take it over. Genre savvy type, and doesn't take shit. Has psyched out two villains and one of the comedy duo by just asking over and over "okay but why". Not popular, has two best friends and they're all kind of outsiders. Prefers it this way. You will not find Jaq anywhere near the monsters when they appear, she's gone and dragging her friends off with her. not associated with a color, but has made the big bad main villain question themself and then cry. her brother was torn between disappointed, impressed, and terrified of his little sister. Jaq's considering maybe being a therapist specializing in rangers and their villains would be a lucrative career move.

Rocky DeSantos;

Rocky and Aisha fit well. She gets his humor, he knows how to match her energy and keep her from burning the wick at two ends. So when they got together nobody was remotely surprised. They have two kids, one naturally and one adopted. Landon, aged 12, and Saffie, aged 14.

Landon's been with Rocky and Aisha since he was three, and he's been really happy with them for as long as he can remember. He's a bit of a bookworm, but mostly prefers nonfiction. If he has to read fiction, it's nothing sci fi related. It bothers him too much when they get simple things you can look up wrong. Like what Tenga Warriors look like, or what space ships need for fuel. Or planets earth trades with. He likes spicy food, and birds. He probably knows more about bird related aliens than the average human. Doesn't know what he wants to be when he grows up, but he does know he wants a parrot. His parents are trying to convince him to choose a bird with a shorter lifespan. He and his sister have a very kind spirited joking relationship. They don't feel like they aren't actual siblings, and he's as protective of her as he likes being a mild pest to her now and then, and she him. Not associated with a color.

Saffie was a surprise baby. Aisha and Rocky had been trying for a kid for a while at this point, and nobody was sure why it just wasn't happening. When they applied for adoption, Saffie was conceived. They still went through with the adoption, and are glad they did, and Saffie is too. She loves Landon a lot, and they have a fairly healthy sibling relationship. Saffie's not exactly a social butterfly, but she's by no means a wallflower either. She keeps to herself, and likes skateboarding and parkour and rock music. Being able to brag about the fact she knows the Skullovitchs personally and she sometimes gets babysat by Eugene Skullovitch's son? Oh it's amazing. Cheeky, high energy, and knows what she wants in life. She's dancing to the beat of her own drum, and is quite happy doing so. Likes reading poetry, a lot, and diy'ing her own clothes (she is not allowed near bleach dye for her jeans after an incident of not screwing the lid on tightly enough and leaving it on the living room floor. Fabric paint is still okay, though). Rocky and Aisha are a little confused by some of her interests, but then she turns around and is so much like both of them they have to laugh. Saffie's just Saffie. Not associated with a color.

Jason Lee Scott;

Surprising everyone, including himself, Billy was chosen for the peace conference, not Jason. Rocky became the blue mighty morphin, and Jason struggled with the new dynamic. He often butt heads with Aisha, who stood up for Adam and Rocky against the Red when her boys wouldn't. Adam, Rocky, and Aisha became a throuple, but Aisha also married Jason, who while he did have to get used to it, likes Rocky and Adam as friends and paramours, and likes that Aisha is happy. Together, Aisha and Jason have one son, Seth Landon Scott, aged seventeen.

Seth is not a ranger, and he's not interested in being a ranger. He's more interested in being a park ranger for national parks. Any would do, just so he can be out in nature. He's not really interested in the ocean, and is far more interested in forests and mountains. strong willed, stubborn, imaginative, and happy to help. Is friends with a lot of rangers and ranger's kids, but, he's happy not being a ranger despite their not so subtle recruitment efforts.

Farkas Bulkmeier;

Nobody saw this coming. However, he invited her to a dance, and she didn’t say no. Then they just saw each other as friends for a few years. New Year’s party and nine months later….well. Actually they work well together, who knew? Bulk can make Aisha laugh, and she helps him set more realistic goals. And they kick ass together. Recently divorced but not on bad terms. Hobart “Hobie” Bulkmeier, though…is struggling. New purple ranger, parents recently divorced, trying to keep grades up and a steady job on top of it? This is. A Lot. He’s a ballet instructor for a babies first ballet type class. Does not put up with bullshit for anything. Not afraid to call people out. He’s dating the green ranger and that’s fine, his parents like his boyfriend. It’s just everything on top of everything on top of everything. Has a bit of an anger issue but he is stressed out. Doesn’t really know how to talk about it, either. He’s usually a very upbeat, positive, and easy going kid. But everything has happened within six months of each other and if he doesn’t get a day off he’s going to blow. His parents are trying but they don’t know how to help if he doesn’t talk to them. He needs a weekend with his boyfriend and no life or death situations for five minutes if you so please.

Eugene Skullovitch;

She asked him out and he thought it was a joke. It wasn't. They found they actually challenge each other in interesting ways. She also hates his mom and her parents love him, so that helped a lot. They've got a daughter, Kensie Campbell. Aged 15. Excitable by nature, is in the drama club. Has a near perfect memory, uses this for shenanigans, mostly when sassing her many many honorary aunts and uncles or annoying villains and monsters. Eugene is so, so proud. Aisha sometimes worries the know it all attitude is going to get her in trouble. However, nothing's happened-yet-and Kensie does seem to slowly be learning how to read the room. She plays piano to help her think. Her favorite is moonlight sonata. It partially annoys Skull, but his favorite composer is Bach, so it's more of a principle thing. Kensie is a soccer player, and has a very close best friend. Skull's getting the "what to in case you're kidnapped by a monster with your best friend" speech ready, just in case a group of crime fighting teenagers with attitude show up. not associated with a color

Scorpina;

When Scorpina pretended to be human, she befriended Rocky, Adam, and Aisha. When the boys fought over her, ‘Selena’ decided to have Aisha as a guide. Although Aisha didn’t trust her and was proven right; There was such an immediate bond it became a matter of contention. Aisha saw through the disguise and decided to make Scorpina regret it, by giving her a reason to be a good person. It worked a little too well, and the two began a very angsty situationship where they had to fight the person they loved most. Constantly. Scorpina couldn't take it anymore, and tricked Aisha into submitting to a mind control for a time so Scorpina wouldn't have to choose between her cause and her girlfriend. The others did break the spell, but Aisha did choose to stay for a while, just to stick with Scorpina. They're not together anymore, but Scorpina did have a daughter with Aisha. Aurellia, aged 19. Aurellia is a warrior and has been in Rito's employ for about two years, but she does want to join her other mom. She wants to know Aisha better, aside from the tense and brief interactions the small family has on her birthday. She wants her moms to reconcile, but is coming to the conclusion that this won't happen. So, she's doing her best as she is, in her current situation. Is a gold ranger.

Rito Revolto;

Aisha can barely stand Rito, but has to acknowledge he's not as stupid or simple or silly as those he loves considers him as. When he lost his memories, Bulk and Skull let it slip to her. Aisha rightfully flipped out on them, but kept it more in the "you turned two people with amnesia into your unpaid SERVANTS?!" and when they thought about it, yea, that....was not a good look. Aisha's plan was redeeming Goldar and Rito while they'd be amenable to actually listening to the reasons for why. She was right, he wasn't dumb, and once he had a little bit of context realized she was the yellow ranger. Rito watched all the carnage and realized the little yellow ranger was right. And when he got his memories back, still agreed she was right. They have one daughter, Phoebe Revolta, aged 22. Phoebe doesn't get along with her cousins Thrax and Selena very much, but she does for the sake of her dad. He believes he can help redeem his niece and nephew, she's not going to argue with this. She's getting pretty upset though, that Grandpa Vile keeps trying to push her dad into teaching her dark arts when Phoebe couldn't be less interested. Wants to be a poet, just trying to get through school. One one side she’s got the Power Rangers on the other she’s got Rita, Zedd, their nightmares, and Vile. Aisha’s become the bane of Vile’s existence on behalf of her daughter and partner. Unfortunately, the mystic side of the family likes causing trouble. Rito’s been unable to get rid of them, so he’s tried to make the best of it, unfortunately for Aisha and Phoebe.

Matthew Cook:

They sort of got together because they just happened to be in each other's vicinity. Everyone was pairing up and they sort of fell into each other as a matter of convenience. They got married, and they're content. They have one kid, Isaiah Cook, aged 16. Aisha and Matthew decided to help Grace and Terona with ranger things, including making a homebrew team such as the Mutant Rangers or Dark Rangers. They're often gone training their teams they've created for the military, much to Isaiah's chagrin.

Isaiah is rebellious in the fact that they know that the best way to get their parents attention is go on about how much they do not want to be involved with power rangers or villains or the comedy duo. Their aunt is the one raising them for the most part, and they travel around America during the long stretches Matt and Aisha aren't around. Isaiah is happy being the background character of their own life. They're just happy to do as much as they can and experience as much as possible, they've only got one life and it's better spent not wasted. And power ranger related shenanigans is wasting it. Currently hoping to be a plumber or go into textile art. They have the skills with both. Isaiah is not associated with a color. If they were, it'd be yellow.

Making some smores in front of the bonfire - Skull/Billy 💞

Skull looked unusual without his leather jacket, but since said jacket was adorning Billy to simultaneously keep him warm as well as to free up Skull's hands so he could create, as he put it, "The best s'mores of your fucking life," Billy was careful to keep his mouth shut and his eyes trained on the figure before him across the fire. Most everyone else had gone to sleep--with Jason, Tommy, Kim, and Bulk sharing the biggest tent after the bigger punk had managed to rig the thing without issue and Kim had insisted they share the abundantly decadent air mattress that should not have been able to fit inside; Trini and Zack sharing the one they'd finagled out of Trini's parents' storage unit that smelled pleasantly of white tea and ginger; the Stone Canyon Trio cuddling up in the too small tent that Aisha had managed to salvage out of the wreck of bits and pieces Adam and Rocky had mistaken as whole tent sets from their own homes that were absolutely NOT up to par; Matt sleeping in the tent he was sharing with Billy alone originally but agreed to add in Skull since he and Bulk had literally stumbled onto the group by accident--but Billy was too hyped up to get a clear view of the stars and Skull just... Well, his insomnia really hadn't gotten better with puberty, and he'd hated to put the fire out without putting it to good use between the two of them. Billy was really quite fascinated how dexterous those long fingers were with handling the marshmallows on their metal spires, gently pinching lightly toasted sugar onto a graham cracker before squirting liquid mocha gently over another cracker to complete the meal. He'd made three already, set perfectly onto a little plate that Billy was fully aware was basically tinfoil wrapped around cardboard, but was not willing to treat is as anything less than fine China when Skull finished the set and handed them over to Billy before setting to work on the last of the bunch for himself. Billy felt a little bit spoiled, being set to enjoy food that he hadn't eaten in over four years since the last time he'd gone camping with his dad for a father-son...thing...and the marshmallows had scorched when his dad had so much as looked at them. But once he bit gently into the treat, the flavor might have invaded his senses and made him practically salivate around the feel of it his mouth, Billy couldn't help but feel obliged to keep watching Skull maneuver with his ow treat. The movements enchanting across the way from the fire, and the light of the flame smoothing against his features like a painting from the Renaissance. And the tiny little appreciative, "Mmm," that curled out of him when he finally took a bite for himself had the strange effect of making Billy swallow one treat whole, suddenly aware of the coat filled with the smell of Skull wrapped around him, making him hot in the face in a way that he wasn't sure he could excuse as just part of being close to the fire.

Yes, I am!

Kim wasn't allowed to have matchbox cars, and she carried that rule through adulthood and didn't buy them herself. A part of her always wanted to do like her dad said.

So when Trini gave Kim that car, the one that looked like her own, Kim felt like a little kid again. A happy kid. It felt almost dangerous, forbidden.

I liked the idea of Trini reintroducing Kim to something she had always wanted, because it also stands for how Trini took care of her and treated her that was something she always wanted (but wouldn't admit to). Trini buying the car was innocuous. She didn't know Kim had never had those cars growing up. She didn't know how Kim begged for them. She just thought it would make Kim smile, and it did.

Trini shared a little something of her own childhood with Kim. Even though it was just candy and a couple of toys, it meant a lot for Kim. And Trini loved seeing that light in her eyes. Kind of like something innocent. Joyful.

And now that Trini has seen what that does to Kim, she's gonna keep buying her those cars until Kim has a wall filled with them. It'll make them both happy.

Sweetest Treat

In those first chaotic weeks of Lord Drakkon’s reign, there was little reprieve to fully appreciate their ‘new normal’. Roving bands of Red Sentries stalked them through the trees and shadows, relentless and merciless. As terrifying as these monsters were, fear often mixed with pain at seeing Jason’s armor perverted into such an evil caricature.

For a period of time, Trini literally lost her voice, the shocking upheaval of their lives, loss of their homes, and the murder of their beloved leader, himself only seventeen years old, leaving her almost catatonic. If not for Farkas and Eugene’s valiant courage and impromptu leadership, the Yellow Ranger would most likely have sat in the dirt and muck, awaiting her own demise without a qualm.

Her early memories of that time were hazy as the survivors of Angel Grove fled the city, following Bulk to an abandoned medical facility. Despite her trauma and confusion, Trini had been impressed with the former bully’s strategy and logic in choosing their new hide-out.

‘Jason would have been proud…’

She squeezed her eyes tightly, the sting of fresh tears causing them to burn painfully. It wasn’t fair. Jason may have been the Red Ranger, their protector and dear friend, but he was also a child. He was so young with much left to look forward to in life. He’d never graduate high school, go to college, start a career, get married, have children…

‘And that holds fairly true for the rest of us as well…’

Her shaky hands swiped at her cheeks, and she buried her face in the crook of her arms. A light breeze lifted strands of her dark hair almost like a ghostly touch of comfort.

‘Is that you, Jase? Are you still with us?’

Again, her hair swept over her shoulder, very real fingers tucking the locks behind an ear.

Trini gasped, bolting upright.

“Oh God, Zack! You nearly scared me to death!”

The Black Ranger stood under the moonlight, remorse etched upon his countenance.

“Sorry, Tri,” he offered, lowering himself to her side on the rocky outcropping overlooking the still smoldering ruins of Angel Grove where the broad lines of rock and wood were slowly materializing in the shape of an elaborate palace.

“You missed dinner, such as it was,” Zack continued, watching her from the corner of his eye.

The thin girl grunted.

“I haven’t had much of an appetite anymore.”

The other teen was quiet a moment as he considered something he’d kept secreted behind his back.

“Trini, you know you still need to eat. You’ve already lost too much weight. It’s making Bulk fret like a wet hen and go into hyper-protective mode,” Zack reminded her. “I thought Kim was going to bite him when he tried to work the mats out of her hair.”

He worked up a light chuckle.

“And it takes all of Skull’s charm and wit to coax Billy into a hot, soapy bath…Not exactly a scene I want to picture, but, hey…it gets the job done.”

The Yellow Ranger sniffed back more traitorous tears, her lips lifting slightly.

“Jason would have really given them fits,” she whispered. “He never could take it easy, let someone else handle the stress and strain of decision making… I think he could be missing a limb and still be bullheaded enough to think he was just going to ‘tough it out’.”

Zack slid an arm around her narrow shoulders, the bones protruding alarmingly against the thin material of her stained yellow t-shirt.

“Yeah, he would have been a real pain in the ass, wouldn’t he?”

He squeezed the girl snuggly against him as he struggled to stifle his own grief at the Red Ranger’s loss.

“Not just to Bulk and Skull… Us too. You know that, Tri… If he knew you weren’t taking care of yourself right now, he’d definitely be reading you the riot act!”

She could hold back the agony no longer and a cry of misery echoed across the chasm, making Zack flinch in surprise.

“I’d give anything for him to be chewing me out! Gladly! Because Jase would still be alive to do it! I could hear his voice one more time! It’s not fair, Zack! It’s just…not…FAIR!”

This last word came out as a shriek.

“He isn’t old enough to be dead! He should still be here!”

Holding the anguished Yellow Ranger tighter, the boy whispered softly.

“I know, I know…”

Trini’s whole body shook with the force of her sobs.

“We didn’t…even…get to…say goodbye! Or…give him…a proper…burial!”

Wrenching herself from the Black Ranger’s arms, she stomped to the edge of the precipice, causing Zack to swiftly leap to his feet.

“Trini! No!”

But instead of jumping out into the chilly midnight sky, the girl screamed towards the palace skeleton blotting out the stars surrounding it.

“FUCK YOU, DRAKKON! FUCK YOU! I HATE YOU!”

Zack snagged the back of her jeans and yanked her away from the ledge, cutting off the start of another yelled obscenity.

“Girl! You’re asking for his Sentries to hear you!”

“I don’t care! Let them kill me. I’d rather be dead than be what I’m starting to become!” she raged, swatting weakly at the teen. “I NEVER thought I’d actually hate another person, that I’d ache to see them die a slow, painful death! I always thought everyone had redeeming qualities and could be saved!”

She extended her middle finger at the palace.

“Not this time! Not Drakkon! I hope one he day he’s so infatuated with gloating that he starts choking and no one even glances his direction!”

Zack was growing fearful that a pack of armored guards was trekking in their direction. To Trini’s indignation, he scooped the Yellow Ranger into his arms and darted back into the tree line, straining to hear for heavy footfalls or shouts over the girl’s outraged cries.

‘Dammit!’

He couldn’t claim he didn’t understand where she was coming from; none of them had been able to properly voice their feelings when it came to their losses. But he knew that if Jase were here, he’d have his ass if he didn’t take care of Trini, Billy, and Kimberly.

And there was his answer.

Zack ducked into a dilapidated cabin, long since abandoned to the elements. He nearly tripped over the broken furniture littering the dusty floor, just managing to right himself and avoid dropping Trini in the process.

“Shit!”

He stumbled over to the soft glow of the moonlight before a busted window, the tattered curtain ruffling in the air. The Black Ranger deposited his cargo onto a frayed, braided rug before peeking carefully out into the darkness. As best he could tell, no shapes moved in the shadows, and he didn’t hear any breaking of twigs or branches.

Trini had fallen silent besides a few random sniffs and gulps. Zack sighed and turned, moving to settle on the faded old rug himself. He pulled a limp Yellow Ranger into his lap and rocked her slowly, humming as he did so, the sound vibrating in his chest.

“You know,” he said after a while when the girl had calmed, “no one thinks any less of you for that. I think we’re all of the same mind when it comes to that fucking dick, Tommy Oliver…”

He reached down into his jacket pocket and Trini could hear the crinkle of a plastic bag.

“And the best way to get revenge, right now… Keep yourself strong… So we can take care of the others. In a way, that honors Jason too. He’d be worried sick about how boney you’ve gotten.”

Ripping open the shiny blue bag, he sighed sadly.

“I brought a dessert. It’s not on par with one of Ernie’s smoothies, but it was a rather lucky find.”

Zack reached inside and pulled out a small handful of tiny cookies. They were bone dry and crumbly and, when they bit into them, stale. However, it was one of the sweetest things they’d eaten in a while.

The Yellow Ranger smiled as she crunched her treat.

“No, this isn’t like a smoothie, but it doesn’t matter.”

She cuddled into her friend’s lap and they quietly munched in peace.

actually I would love a rant about how JJ sucks as a character

Merry early Christmas to you then, Anon!

Like I think what makes everyone clutching their pearls over the sanctity of JJ’s character and place in the canon so ridiculous is he is barely a character in the first place.  He is a plot device in SotD, a narrative goal for Tommy, as the story wasn’t about JJ developing into someone worthy of the Dragon Shield or even an SPD cadet - he's already done all of that. The story was about Tommy realizing he should retire and hand over his stuff already.  And you have a son who’s pretty good at being a ranger, so……….he should take it!  Great!  That’s it. I genuinely don't know why they didn't do some kind of Goofy Movie-esque father/son journey together, especially if you really wanted to discuss this idea of him feeling like he's in his dad's shadow. His existence in the show amounts to namedrops and one voiceover line in the Ninja Steel special, and the only bits of characterization these amount to are he’s a kid who goes to karate camp.  To me it comes off like people are attached more to JJ’s POTENTIAL as a character rather than HIMSELF as a character, in like a “well, maybe one day they’ll give him his own book/show/whatever” sort of way, which….it’s been five years since SotD.  Hasbro is gearing up to do a reboot and even then, as we’ve talked about many times, they don’t want to put focus on cop characters.  Unless some stuff is getting retconned, I am not holding my breath.      

The reason I call Minh the superior legacy character by comparison is because there actually was time and space dedicated to showing how she stands out as a person and a character beyond her being Trini’s daughter; in fact, her being Trini’s daughter is the least interesting part about her (in no small part because Trini herself was handled very badly by that special.)  What makes her interesting is her personality, her relationship with Zack, how she’s suddenly thrown into the deep end of the PR world by way of great tragedy, and her arc from a vengeful kid to a true hero (the special’s shaky writing of this arc notwithstanding.  But at least I get what they were TRYING to do here.)  JJ did not have anything CLOSE to that.  

Something else about him that’s funny but also frustrating because it’s obviously not intended by the writers, but still happens WAY too often for my liking, is how his existence is honestly a detriment to a lot of women in this franchise kjkfdj he was the catalyst for the old SPD ranking drama, as him being green meant Syd and Z had to stay as pink and yellow (and no, them throwing in some random female OC no one remembers as blue does not make up for it.)  And then….Kat……well…..I think this belongs in a discussion that covers more than just JJ, as in a way how they handled Trini in OaA is a very similar situation, but the fact of the matter is that since JJ’s inclusion in the canon Kat’s existence has boiled down to being his mother rather than a veteran ranger with her own life and work, no matter how many times the show and books TRY to be like “No look!  See!  She’s a super cool badass wife who keeps everyone in line!  She’s off doing her own things, too, we swear!”  my brother in Christ the same 30th anniversary story that tries to show off how cool and independent she is ALSO has a scene where she’s like “it’s okay honey, you take care of the Ranger missions while I stay home with JJ, it’s fine :)”  They’ve made it very clear that JJ is Tommy’s son, Tommy’s legacy, while Kat is his stay-at-home caretaker, WHICH IS FINE FOR A WOMAN TO BE, but not in this narrative, where Kat’s time as a ranger is treated as irrelevant compared to Tommy’s. (A good example is how, in SotD, only Tommy was listed as JJ's emergency contact, with no mention of Kat. I'm almost certain there was an early draft of this book where Tommy did not have a wife.)  How do we have two (2) comic stories where we have married TomKat but Kat doesn’t morph.  And not as a plot point or character bit or something (I think it actually would be very interesting if Kat not having much attachment to her time as a Ranger was actually intentional) but just in a “we don’t feel like involving Kat in her husband’s adventures” situation.  Hello????????  I know that kind of feels off-topic to why JJ sucks but trust me, it’s partly his fault.  And it’s why I’m making such a big deal over the potential mother/daughter Ranger teamup for Kim and Olivia, because the alternate mother of Tommy's alternate kid has gotten such a raw deal.     

And the SPD/Dragon Shield combo is ugly.

when it comes to their health trini and kim are Strange. w trini, it's rough as she fucking Hates being fussed over and coddled with a passion and whaddyaknow, being treated feels like that to her so she'll try and get out of it every time with an angy little "i'm FINE" or something equally snappish and just generally avoids getting cared for (both because she's afraid of rejection and because she doesn't want to seem weak).

kimberly, however, is a different story because she, unlike trini, actually knows her limits (girl was on the cheerleading team bro) yet will ignore them out of self-hatred and not really giving a shit about herself, but when she's finally sat down and treated, she doesn't actually make a fuss about it. she's used to accidents and treating scrapes and bruises and scratches, and also she kinda likes being cared for

so they're kinda opposites in that way
