I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I was so hopeful that he'd be Team Dad, and he's been slowly taking that role as it goes (he told a goddamn DAD JOKE last episode), and I LOVE IT!!!

I joked about their little family being a single dad, his daughter, the lost puppy and feral cat they picked up on the way, but I'm in STITCHES that that's what we seem to be getting!

many people often interpret the plants in trigun as like vash's "sisters", but i realized since independents are plants' offspring, they're more like his aunts. which creates an absolutely hilarious dynamic of like, him traveling to different towns and checking in on and taking care of his aging aunties. yes hello i'm vash and this is my hivemind of all powerful aunties. they badger him about "that man" he travels around with and "when is he gonna settle down" like the humans. it's adorable

I can't remember who said this or where, but I remember seeing someone once try brainstorming what Legato would be like in a softer world, where he could heal or not even go through the trauma that made him who he was... And it was so impossible to even consider that the conversation went nowhere.

We see trauma explored in so many ways in Trimax, to the point that I've called it one of, if not the story's main theme. We see people not dealing with their trauma, we see people crippled by it, we see people overcoming it, we see it saving others from being abused, we see it drive people into being abusers. But the fact that this child was so deeply mistreated and scarred to such a sickening degree, and then was thrust into an environment where being useful was his only value to the point that he barely had a chance to become his own person, to the point that his entire psyche is shattered... Man, Legato fucks me up.

and honestly as someone who's always read Vash & Knives' trans-coding as "probably unintentional but very cool," that Thing I just realized about Elandira makes me feel like it might have actually been intentional??? I mean shit dude. The other Plants didn't have to look like that. Using Plant Powers did not need to be that yonic for any mechanical reason. And yet...?????????????????

CAVEAT THOUGH, there is of course a Christian Symbolism explanation for the yonic imagery, re: genesis and miracle virgin births and all that. But what if it was BOTH....?

Huh. Someone correct my math, but the Road Trip Crew (all four) were together for a little under... two months? Wish we got to see more of that!

Meryl and Roberto meet Vash on the morning of May 25th, go to Jenora Rock and spend the night. Then by the end of the 26th, the town is destroyed.

Three days later (they say Vash hasn’t eaten all that time), they run into Wolfwood, so that would be either the 29th or the 30th depending on what days they’re counting. So the crew gets together on May 29th or 30th.

The Ultimate Incident happens on July 21st (I believe?), so unless Vash was asleep for like, weeks or something, they spent a LOT longer than I thought together.

I WANT TO SEE THE ROAD TRIP THEY WENT ON THROUGH ALL OF JUNE AND MOST OF JULY!

Hmmm... in Trigun modern AU fanfics, I find it interesting that the naming-convention of the Twins calling Rem by first name is left intact. I guess it is what we are all used to. What I mean is, I don't think I've read a modern AU fanfic that has them calling her "Mom" or "Mama" or "Mum" or "Mother" (in English-language fanfics) on default. Sometimes interchangeably with her name, but not as first and foremost default. It makes sense in canon because one presumes that Rem, being a class act, is very much into letting them know they have a Plant-Mom. (I absolutely headcanon that scene where they are all walking down the fuselage filled with Plants in Trigun: Stampede and they go up to a big Plant that Rem was taking them to see their birth mother). They seem to, instinctively, if in no way else, know that they are a different species from her. In modern AUs, particularly ones where the Twins are human, I am always left wondering "were they adopted for god-parented and this is why?" Some modern / real world AUs have that very explanation. I read one where Vash and Nai were orphaned in a car accident and spent time as wards of the state until Rem came along and insisted on adopting them both. While single. And with Vash with special needs (lost his arm in the accident). But, then, in others, there isn't an explanation given / no presumed adoption and the assumption / implication that Rem is their biological mother, the late Alex their father, and yet they call her "Rem," rather than "Mom." My mind just fills in the blank there with "I've read 'To Kill a Mockingbird' and in that, Scout and Jem call their father - biological father, beloved father 'Atticus' because he just likes it better and that's just how that family works." - If a modern AU implies that Rem in that universe is bio-mom, I just apply "To Kill a Mockingbird" rules to the naming.
