Somewhere along the way — the chains or the cell or the room with the birdsong — L had forced something in Light to open like a flower, or like a wound. Alone with L, Light was a different person. He was living another life, tucked discreetly underneath the first one. It felt much like being Kira had felt. Sometimes, it felt just as violent: this feeling that L inspired in him, that turned his insides and made a mess of him. Even when it simply felt soft between his ribs, it hurt. — or — “You and Matsuda can make out in the break room all you want, if that’s what you apparently like. I’m learning a lot about you today.” “You’re imagining it in quite vivid detail. Would you like to watch?” The corner of Light’s mouth twitched, and he calmed himself by imagining attacking Matsuda like a wild animal. “L,” Light said, smiling like he worked in customer service. “Are you going to eat the goddamn carrot or not?” — or: After Light gives up being Kira and L no longer considers him his prisoner, almost everything is sorted out. The only thing left are those annoying feelings lodged in Light's chest. Maybe he should confess?

Well that was a finale (spoilers)

Uh, not the strongest episode of the show, but hell, a thousand times better than whatever the hell that was the jellyfish finale.

So, 3 things:

Finally we get to see the Nina/Hina thing. My god Hina is such a fucking bitch.

I like the maturity behind the finale, but it also didn't slip into 'hurr durr society rules important hurr durr'. It acknowledges that reality is harsh but allows the MCs to continue with their dream.

No explicitly gay stuff. Not that I expected any. (What the fuck was the 'i love this city' scene? Was it put there in place of a second confession or...? eh, whatever)

So, yeah. GBC is a great anime and I'm considerably less mad about this one going 'subtext' than Jellyfish last week. For starters, they have toei at their backs, and it's meant to be a multimedia franchise, so it was never going to happen.

That being said, it's clear the team was trying to make MomoNina canon in their own way. The background details and implied dating are obvious (the two-toothbrushes in the bathroom thing is nearly undeniable), and nothing in the finale contradicted any of those hints, so yeah, as of now it's about as canon as it can be.

Also, addition: I don't think Nina pardoned Hina for being a fucking asshole backstabber, I think she just acknowledged that Hina didn't join DD to get back at her. She does literally proceed to say "i wasn't wrong" which is a bit of a fuck you.

And because I've seen some bad-faith actors trying to do this, before anyone tries to bring up Hibikek Baitphonium, allow me to remind you that: 1) It's based on a series of novels that ends with the MC in a het relationship with a guy. You guys are getting baited on fucking purpose, you fucking losers. and 2) Yamada, the director, literally admitted she's using queerbait and only sees it as 'adolescence' (also, a phase) so you're double stupid. Don't compare your Kokuhaku to GBCs.

(though it's worth noting Jukki Hanada partook in both shows so I wont' blame anyone for being a bit skeptic).

"Can You Hear My Heartbeat" Chapter 27 is up!

Summary:

With a deafening clatter, Viktor’s bike crashed onto the pavement as he flung his arms around Yuuri. “Yuuri! I’m so happy you asked!”

This chapter is one of those very first parts I wrote back in 2021, when I was convinced that this story was going to be a one-shot collection instead of a full-fledged YOI novelisation of 350k words in total 😅 The first few paragraphs are below the read-more tag due to a spoiler.

“It’s only three weeks until the Cup of China,” Yuuri said as they crossed the foyer of Ice Castle. “In my mind, it’s still summer. Time’s running so fast.” Too fast. Looking back, the summer was a dream-like haze of morning runs, refrigerated rinks, summer meadows, swims in the ocean, baths in the hot spring, and nocturnal campfires on the beach. He could not remember ever having enjoyed himself this much.

“Still, it feels as if I’ve been here forever,” Viktor said wistfully.

“Yeah,” Yuuri agreed. “It wouldn’t have been the same without you.”

They shared a look that spoke of more than words. And like it had so often recently, Yuuri’s heart did a giddy quad jump.

A cold gust of wind greeted them outside, whirling golden leaves through the air, ousting all foolish thoughts as Yuuri tried to get used to the autumnal morning. He pulled the zipper of his parka up to his chin. Only a handful of people lingered outside, waiting to catch a glimpse of their top skater and his famous coach. Most townsfolk had grown accustomed to their sight, and the initial hype had long burned out. Yuuri and Viktor waved at them and bid them a good day.

Viktor unlocked his bike and they set off down the road. More leaves tumbled onto the pavement, spinning in spirals and whirls. Yuuri could have watched them for hours lost in fantasies of those leaves turning into figure skaters dancing Agape and Eros intertwined.

One week had passed since Yuuri had voiced his kokuhaku. One week of contemplating the best way to proceed. One week too long. Viktor had responded as desired, and now it was Yuuri’s turn. As he gazed at the autumnal town spreading in front of him in the mellow October light, his determination hardened.

Under a tree, he stopped, clenching his fists.

“Viktor.”

Viktor stopped, confusion playing on his angelic features.

“Let’s do something together.” Heat flared up on Yuuri’s face. That had come out the wrong way. “But not like gaming or swimming in the ocean—it’s too cold for the latter anyway. Let’s go out. Like, let’s start seeing each other. I mean, not like we see each other every day. But in a romantic way.”

Viktor blinked. Then his eyes which were like slivers of the autumn sky widened. “Are you asking me on a date, Yuuri?”

Yuuri nodded. “But… I’ve never dated before. There’s not much one can do in this town except for karaoke, and I’m still traumatised from that one.” The heat on his face intensified. I’m so awkward. This is so embarrassing! “But I really want to start dating you. I’ve—”

HELLO!!! im flattered (?) to be the coolest person to ask about anything related to this totally super normal franchise i have been keeping up with for over a decade . SO. you ask the question: what is haniwa about?

honeyworks is a musical group that started way back in 2010. they started with vocaloid songs, primarily uploaded on niconico before they began collaborating with the singer chico in 2014. sometime after this collaboration, they officially debuted with the studio album zutto mae kara suki deshita (i have always loved you) which became the greenlight for the confession executive committee — the multimedia franchise, storyline, and universe all haniwa characters exist in.

confession executive committee, also known as cec, or kokuhaku jikkou iinkai, is divided into two series:

love series, which deals with the terrible horrible, amazing, wonderful experience of being 16 and in love

idol series, which deals with the terrible horrible, amazing, wonderful experience of being 16 and an idol

THOSE ARE JOKES BUT. you get the point. love series is the larger, more expanded universe as it is the debut series and has often been referred to as a shoujo romance told through music. idol series is relatively smaller, but more popular with the newer fanbase due to its more developed storyline (im sorry ren'ai babies)

um. is this too much information. IM SORRY I SWEAR I TRIED TO DIAL IT DOWN. but the gist is that love series has a larger cast (which if youre seeing my pride edits, theyre gen 1 and 2 — love series has up to gen 3) while idol series is newer and has a smaller number of characters.

a fun little thing abt honeyworks and their songs is that almost everyone has their own story, a tale of a love or struggle that needs to be told.

Tried reading a generic isekai manga out of boredom this evening ("Yuusha Party ni Kawaii Ko ga Ita no de, Kokuhaku Shite Mita") and found that the tired middle-aged guildmaster character, Creiman, looked so much like Gallagher that I couldn't help but think of your meltdown today

My Commentary:

Like, some of the obvious POP culture references / in-jokes some of the other ‘outfits’ had aside, most of these outfits actually looked quite reasonable (and comfy, imo!! - which is pretty much the point I think Koushiro was going for?!??) and I could easily see Koushiro wearing some/most any of these canonically at various points of Koushiro’s tri. and post-tri. teen-aged lifetime, even just purely for fun. Heck, I’ve seen fan-artists (including on the J.P.N end and even in / using specifically their Tri-esque designs / outfits) draw Koushiro in MULTIPLE outfits like this!

{I kind of think the “King” outfit SHOULD stay, though.}

Also, the kimono choice is, like, fine? Koushiro’s Japanes---?

OK but Mainly I want to know which animator/Clothing Designer (as I’ve seen exist from some Tri and etc. Staff listings) specifically was involved in this specific segment / outfit set because they were clearly having a BLAST designing Koushiro like 20+ random outfits and honestly, as a Koushiro fan who has supported Koushiro since finding this series in my childhood I CAN’T actually blame them?? (You don’t even HAVE to use / consider every single one there, even TRI!KOUSHIRO doesn’t canonically use all of these!!)

I could also relate everything to do with motor skills and fine motor skills involving clothing and Autism when it comes to certain Autistic head-canons I may have, including buttoning clothes, but that might be a topic for another day...
