Can we talk about how the only time in the film where Caracalla seems like he has his shit together in a mostly lucid, mostly emperor type way is here?

"Crown him with laurels, brother"

His voice is calm, he knows what's going on, he knows the procedure of a returning general. We don't hear him use that tone of voice again.

He also has the same dead eyed/stoic expression here as when Geta yells at him and throws his drink:

And here, when Macrinus is reaching behind him and eventually doing the deed:

Now, the last two and arguably even when Geta is yelling at him can be put down to a trauma response. We know they had a shitty, abusive childhood. He clearly detaches when he's upset.

So I guess I'm just wondering, what, if anything, happened before Acacius returned in order for Carcalla to look and sound like that? Mostly I'm interested in his tone of voice. The closest we get to that same measured tone is at Thraex's party (though he seems drunk there) and then later when he says that the party was a blur. The tone he uses when we first see him is so out of sorts with the rest of his character throughout the rest of the film.
