So. There is no safe place (in the body) to be shot. There are places that are slightly safer than others to be stabbed (i.e. being stabbed in the meat of your calf is less likely to be lethal than your torso). For the purposes of an arrow wound, which feels like a combination of shot+stab for a swords n sorcery world, is there a “less lethal” place to take an arrow? My character is traveling with companions and gets into a fun little goblin skirmish. I need her to catch an arrow somewhere that will be concerning, but not immediately fatal. Magic Bullshit™️ will keep the wound from healing properly for a few days, but I’ve accounted for field wound care (cleaning and bandaging and such) as she’s being taken on horseback to get proper treatment.
Not deeply.
So, the problem with all of these is tissue disruption. If the injury gets deep enough, the chances that it will hit something vital (especially on the torso) increase dramatically. So, getting stabbed and having the blade catch bone, instead of getting in deeper is “relatively” safe. Similarly, getting stabbed (or shot) in the hand or foot is unlikely to kill you (though, those injuries are likely to result in permanent damage impairing the use of injured appendage.)
Arrows are a little different, in a couple of ways. First, if you get shot, you do not want to pull that off (nor break it off and push it through.) That will increase the risk of bleeding out. Arrows make fairly large holes in people, but if the arrow sticks in the wound (which, it should) it will actually limit the amount of bleeding. Effectively the wound has a partial plug in it. Pulling out the arrow means that plug is no longer there, and they can happily bleed to death on the spot.
The second thing about arrows is that they actually pin muscle together. Think of it a bit like holding two pieces of meat together with a toothpick. If the toothpick isn't there, the pieces can slide across each other without issue, but that's not possible when there's a wooden shaft running through them. Your muscles are a complex web of meat, that slide over each other as you move. Pinning those together means that part of your body will actually lock up. For example, if you're shot in the shoulder, you won't be able to adjust the position of your arm. It's been toothpicked, and it's not going anywhere.
Arrowheads can get wedged in bone. If it's a broad head, or hunting tip, that will be obnoxious to get out.
At the risk of reading too much into your setting, goblins often means poisons, or other nastiness. Though, really, even just getting a tetanus infection (it used to be called “lock jaw”) from their blades is a pretty horrific potential fate. Even if the wounds themselves were relatively minor (cuts and scrapes, maybe a graze or two), a couple days might still result in some pretty horrific harm after the fact.
Also, remember, it's unlikely that bacteria will be understood by the medical science of your setting. So, first aid would still run a real risk of secondary infections.
Depending on their skill in first aid, anything outside of a severed artery or catastrophic organ damage should be (technically) survivable, though the wounds could easily result in permanent impairments, depending on exactly what was hit. A punctured lung might not kill her, but it could result in permanent respiratory issues, such as a cough, and chronic pain while breathing heavily from then on. It could also result in pneumonia and death, which is also, usually, pretty permanent.
Some of this depends more on where you want to land on a spectrum between dark fantasy and swords & sorcery. The genres are similar (and potentially overlapping), but can scatter out into dramatically different works. But, you do have some options on how you want to proceed.

OK, EXPLAINING DABIS SCARRING because @good-lord-not-books asked
*note these are just my hcs and some medical research
I'm putting this under a cut because it's long as hell, and I apologize in advance for any typos or if it's confusing. I have no problem explaining further♡
His scars are hypertrophic. which 1) explains the discoloration. It's what happens when the smaller blood vessels become partially or fully obstructed with scar tissue. They typcially start off pinkish or light red. (like when he woke up from his coma.)
Typically the treatment for this is laser removal. But if you don't have access the color may naturally shift with age/as it natueally heals. But with continuous damage to the areas.. the scar will get darker as the veins and tissue is further injured (the deeper into the skin and possible muscle it damages)
most hyrpertophic scarring can take a year + to heal. but obviously Dabi just keeps making his worse. The scars themselves are cause by the body over producing collagen for wound healing and not actually being able to break all of it down.
Which leaves collagen fibers in the skin to harden and thicken. Hardened skin doesn't allow much give, lessening the skins elasticity over all. Which can be shown in the way his unscarred skin pulls along the edges where the dermal rings line said scars. (my thoughts on his staples acrually being dermal rings will be at the end)
That's not even going into the nerve damage systemically for him considering hes covered in that kind of scar. So when he says he can't feel a thing it's literal as the nerve endings are shot to shit. And that is only going into skin deep level.
Interal organ nerve damage is a whole other mess due to the scaringbeing from burns. As severe enough burns cause systemic damage. (will also go into atfer the scarring part)
His skin looks TIGHT on him. If he did have and semblance of sensation in his nerves it might feel like hella tight/dry skin. Also I think hypertrophic scars are an inflammation response to the body healing.
His body is literally misshapen from it. (and yes we love him the way he is) You can see in panels where the skin is probably softer where there's lack of muscle definition but can see where it's tighter or pulling over his arms/ shoulders/ribcage because the skins elasticity is non-existent. The instances where it's sifter looking is probably due to his body trying to retain as much body fat it can to keep healthy (or as healthy as it's going to get in his state.)
As far as it going right up to his lower lids and having zero tear ducts. that man has chronic dry eye like it's nobodies business. so itchy and possibly bleeding eyes isn't a shock. he probably has several counts of grand larceny in artificial tears alone.
Ok so as for his scaring being from burns, burns affect the whole body and how it works depending on the severity.
It can effect muscle tissue/muscle mass, bone structure and interior organs.
Given he seems to be perpetually giving himself 3rd degree + burns .. his respiratory system and cardiovascular system are probably shot to shit. Just from smoke inhalation and perpetual injury. (hypertrophic scars fill the veins with scar tissue remember) Assuming how deep the burn and scar tissue goes.
But we haven't seen him with much breathing issues so I'm assuming it's whatever. He has mentioned motion sickness and we've even seen him turning down food. So I can at least go into it's affects on his GI tract.
In the GI tract, burns can result in increased gastric secretions, reduced intestinal motility, decreased nutrient absorption, increased GI mucosal permeability, bacterial translocation and increased intra-abdominal pressure. If it's bad enough he may have ulcers or gi hemorrhaging. Severe burns also cause liver and intestinal damage.
The fact that he's been alive this long is wild if he's been homeless this whole time and just committing small crimes to not die. One thing that irritates me is when people think he would be incredibly unhygienic due to the scars and such.
Like do you understand how CLEAN you have to keep burn injuries to keep them from getting infected?? Even if it's layered over already damaged and scarred skin. He might smell like burnt flesh but I doubt he's letting wounds fester.
Yes he could probably just cauterize himself but that's still just burning burn wounds. Especially with 0% health insurance. I always assumed he kept breaking into the Todoroki family home when he knew no one would be there to do basic things to make sure he didn't die on the street over the years.
Quick add on to my thoughts on his staples just being dermal rings to homd his skin together/as a form of human Kinstugi.
They (the rings) are pretty rounded in the manga, surgical staples aren't nearly that large either so I always assumed human Kinstugi regardless of metal color (between manga gold or anime silver) and it was both decorative and necessary for his skin.
I just assumed wherever the rings weren't, it was just spots he couldn't reach.
it's also shown in the manga that he's adjusting/adding more along his scars.
Tumblr media
als, in case anyone is unfamiliar with the term Kintsugi, it's this
Kintsugi (Japanese: 金継ぎ, lit. 'golden joinery'), also known as kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. The method is similar to the maki-e technique. Its the Japanese philosophy that the value of an object is not in its beauty, but in its imperfections, and that these imperfections are something to celebrate, not hide.
which I think suits his character very well when his piercings and dermal rings are gold looking in some of the colored manga art.
ok, I'll shut up now, ♡

Soft Yandere! Veteran HCs (and a special something at the end!)
So I basically fell in love with this nameless man I wrote on a whim- And now I’m giving the dude a name now- My precious moot helped me to cement his identity as a jaded, Russian veteran and I obviously leaped at the chance of making an old dilf. I fucking love this man- 😀
This is definitely NSFW so…
MINORS DNI. MINORS DNI. MINORS DNI.
That’s better! ❤️
Tumblr media
Soft Yandere! Veteran who’s at least twenty-five years your senior— and makes sure that you remember that. He’ll make sure that any bratty attitude coming from you will be promptly shut down. Whether it’ll be through a spanking session or giving your mouth something better to do… Well. It depends on how much you’ve pissed him off already. ^^
(Don’t worry, though. He’s too much of a softie to not ensure that you’ll enjoy every second of your “punishment~” 😮‍💨)
“In my days, cadets used to have their teeth smashed in if they mouthed off to their superiors. Shouldn’t you thank me for my leniency, love?”
Soft Yandere! Veteran who makes sure that you’re always well fed. He may have some food insecurity problems, and would never want his beloved to ever experience that gnawing hunger he felt in his earlier years. So say au revoir to any diets you want to do!
He’s a good cook too, so you bet he’s going to feed you every time you see each other. You’re always going to be greeted with food as aftercare— there’s no arguing on that. He will force-feed you. 😓
“A diet? Tch. You don’t need that. Just eat, dear. You need the nutrients for later.”
Speaking of aftercare! Soft Yandere! Veteran who knows exactly what to do after years of fucking women. …And maybe some men but we don’t talk about his soldier years- The man will wipe you down and massage every part of your body that aches after his rough treatment. Believe in the old man who has chronic pain every day because of what he did in his youth- He definitely knows how to relieve any muscle aches. 😌
Soft Yandere! Veteran who is a huge cuddler. He’s taller than you and is just a brickhouse— you’re not going anywhere if he wants to cuddle with you. He probably has a size kink, loves seeing you try to fit him in your mouth. He’ll be so condescending about it too, goading you on while he’s reading the newspaper like the senile man he is. 😩
“Come on, love~ Is that really the best you can do? You can take a bit more, right? For me~?”
Soft Yandere! Veteran who is Russian! The man never speaks crass words, though— always a gentleman through and through. His mama taught him right! He has to make sure that you remember your manners with him too! Say please and then he might give you what you want. It depends, though. Have you been a polite lover to him today? 🤔
“Mmm… I don’t know, Солнце… You’ve been so naughty today. I think you should beg some more for my cock~”
Soft Yandere! Veteran who has episodes of depression whenever he remembers the young men he killed in the battlefield. You can find him on the floor while staring at his countless medals— bottles of everclear on the floor with a few cigar buds in the ashtray nearby. A hug from you will help him a lot…
(Please replace the bitter cigar in his mouth with your sweet lips. Give him something else to think about. Better yet, why don’t you spread those thighs of yours? That will always get the old man going! 😊)
“...Thank you, лапочка. I needed this.”
Soft Yandere! Veteran who will never let you go. You’re just too pure for the world… He’s directly seen how dirty humans can be. You’re like a spring breeze to him, allowing him to relax his mind for the first time since he was drafted. Just listen to everything he says. Don’t you believe in him? 🥺
“...People… They can be cruel. Especially to wounded rabbits like you.”
Tumblr media
You didn’t think that I’d just make headcanons after painting a scene in your head, right? Dear gods no! I want to be a nice author to you all! (At least until my mind decides to switch up and make angst- But you’re all safe! For now.) 😈
Anyways! I’m going to show y’all a blowjob scene with this old man now! Have fun! ^^
(It’s gender neutral this time because you’re sucking his dick-)
Tumblr media
You thought he was being too cruel right now. Here you were: on your knees, serving the man while he was enjoying his morning cup of coffee. If you could talk, you would’ve whined at him for his attention; to get that dumb paper out of the way so he could fuck your mouth like you knew he could. He was undoubtedly affected by the way your lips were wrapped around not even half of his cock, though. There was a reason why his hand had a firm grip on your hair— not allowing you to pull away nor go deeper.
The old man had way too much patience compared to you, not even budging when you start to paw at his clothed thighs. He’s spent years on the battlefield, dear. The man can neglect his own needs as long as you learn your lesson. Your parents must have not taught you very well, but that’s fine! He can show you exactly how to stay in the lines.
Your desperate whimpers send shivers down his spine, the vibrations making his warm cock grow hotter— a familiar warmth pooling underneath his stomach. His hand tightens around your locks, a deep sigh escaping from his lips before he even knew it. You got what you wanted, his attention. And oh… You have his full attention.
A low growl was your only warning before he forced his cock down your throat— his hands now occupied with pulling your hair like it were a horse’s reins. You couldn’t breathe; he was big, and he knew that. You could barely see his sly grin through your tears, but you could feel it. By the way his hand was kept on the back of your head to keep your spit-covered lips on his cock. By the way his other hand was patting the top of your head so affectionately. By the way he cooed at you like he wasn’t choking you on his dick right now.
“Aww~ Is there something you want to say, Солнце? Come on~ Use your words for me, hm?”
The bastard was taking pleasure in your helplessness; he knew that your throat was far too occupied to do anything but let out a few muffled whimpers. Whimpers that went straight down to his weeping cock, his balls tightening even more when he sees how prettily you were silently begging for his mercy. The old man was just getting his rocks off at this point.
He kept on using you, bobbing your head over and over again— he was an old soldier, he knew precisely how long he could keep you gagging before you’d pass out. It was like a game to him in a way, seeing how far he could physically push you before you were on the brink of passing out. You were seeing both stars in your eyes and black spots; your adrenaline peaking from this deadly game. One where all you could do was trust the man in front of you that he knew what he was doing.
His endurance was no joke even after over a decade, you didn’t know how long it was before you could finally taste something bitter on your tongue— his head tilting up as he groaned. You were still gagging, your head pushed as far as possible when he came in your throat. The thick, slimy liquid going down your throat effortlessly as he slowly slides you off his limp dick. A round of coughs greeting you after your lungs were suddenly filled with oxygen after a while with barely any.
All he did was pat your head, grabbing a cloth from the table to clean up the mixture of his cum and your drool and tears off your face. His palms tenderly cupping your cheeks afterward— steadily lifting your face up before he presses a soft kiss on your now clean lips. A satisfied smile curving up his lips when he sees your blissed out, lost expression; your usual bratty self not seen at all.
“Hm… Better.”
Tumblr media
Translation:
Солнце = sunshine
лапочка = sweetie pie / cutie
BRO. THIS. THIS DOES THINGS TO ME. Y'ALL LIKE THIS OLD MAN TOO, HUH??
"I know what you are."

PICK A CARD? 🙀🤯
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
1. [Pink flower and wall] So a family situation. Whoever you are living with right now no communication and thoughts about ending it all Comming in your mind. If married with kids having thoughts about divorce and leaving it all behind.
There is this thing in your DNA passed down by the ancestors that Is logical factual and speak truth. Brave and not afraid to be confronted which you will discover almost about yourself when you will be able to see past your emotions. I feel here you have the tendency to take emotional decisions and make emotional Decisions what does it mean? Feeling unsafe getting triggered and cutting off from people giving them silent treatment instead of communicating in name of keeping my peace.
That is what I meant. And I feel that is the current situation too. Don't be afraid to communicate but communicate the truth the facts the logic putting both the parties feelings and logic in the same shoes. Don't be afraid to not just confront but to be confronted about your not so flawless about yourself too. A huge major undiscovered best debater the best leader part of you that is always respected by everyone no matter who, is waiting to be discovered soon. Only if you start to see the situations as situations and not as personal Attacks. Communicate your truth and the justice of situation. Clouds will clear and you will be able to solve these. interpersonal problems. Good luck.🎀🫧
🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱
2. [Road with trees] Clearly a love situation or should we say online situationship. There is a lot of emotional chaos lot of lingering guilt from past but still the uncertainty the mystery the hidden the wiped under the rug here.
One party here is putting very aggressive (fast and extra) efforts in this whatever it is while other is also but on meh level.
What is asked of you is to be truthful about your feelings, if you giving mixed signals to this person even when you don't really feel like it. Accept it. See it. And leave.
If you feeling the feelings for the person but the fear is holding you back. Accept it. See it. Leave completely or put the efforts.
You have to let go of past now. Past is past for a reason. The energy is so hidden so fearful so anxious here even I was not able to tap into it fully for good 3 minutes. So Accept and see the truth the intuition of yours is what telling you here not the fear of being abandoned or fear of rejection. And do the right thing. (Justice card) if you feel you are "kinda" using this person for attention. Leave do the right thing. If you feel this other person is using you for it. Leave it. But Accept the truth about your feelings. Kay? 🌸🌱
🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
3.[the yellow flower bench] I see some embarrassment the childhood wounds of yours bottled up, and now it's spilling out on your very closed ones. I don't see it as something new "oh I had a fight few months ago" no it's a chronic lifelong thing you are dealing with. It could be from you being misogynistic to you hating to be seen as low class whatever it is, it is projecting on the closed ones of yours creating problems. I do see you love them but your opinons on them because of your past is affecting the relationship.
What you need is not emotional distance what you need is to embrace your past and your truth a good cry and a good therapist. I feel in childhood you had money problems in life or maybe body image issues in your childhood something anything that was embarrassing for you. It is still to this day affecting you because of the emotions being rugged under the cover. So open the cap of the bottle and let it all out accept your past for whatever it was and cry it out if you want to but embrace your past self don't be the same person who you were afraid of back in your childhood. God bless you. 💫💭

I got home from work today sneezing my head off with a right eye that won’t stop watering, took a hot shower, climbed into bed, and I haven’t climbed out since. I’m grumpy and I have a headache and if I’m not testing positive for COVID or debilitated by symptoms tomorrow I’ll still need to go to work because that’s twenty patient visits that would need to be rescheduled, usually with someone else, and that’s twenty people I’m letting down. Today I did one of my patented 45-second Pap smears (if it takes longer than that, your doctor needs to get better!) for someone with vaginal atrophy from menopause (it is both very common and very treatable) and she was in disbelief. (This time it was more like 30 seconds.) I saw a suicidally depressed patient who’s clinging to life with both hands and I changed their meds last week and I am not making them wait to see me. I cleaned a wound no one else gave a shit about and I saw a bitter pissy Republican Party bigwig who has terrible anxiety and depression she doesn’t tell anyone about, who’s alienated everyone but who I can still convince to try treatment.
I do my job on hard mode on purpose. I like being important—who doesn’t? I like being legendary, I like that when people move to town and ask for doctor recommendations on Facebook so many people mention me that other patients feel compelled to tell me about it. I got nominated for best doctor in our local region last year. (I didn’t win, out of 5 nominees.) But when I’m sick, when I’m the kind of sick that can be hidden easily, the kind of sick I was always expected to go to school and rotations and residency with, it’s so hard. I hate exposing patients, even to a cold, but the benefits of receiving care are probably enough to outweigh the chance of transmission. I wrestle with myself: if I call in, it starts a ripple effect. Can they get a per diem from their “pool” (of three) to come in? Can they reschedule my patients with me? I don’t have any open spots for five weeks. Can they open same days? None available for three weeks. Can they open blocked spots? That’s going to make my life hell when I come back from being sick. That’s clinic staff calling twenty patients, trying to reach them. That’s twenty patients who feel abandoned. They can know intellectually that doctors get sick too, but they don’t believe it. They take it personally. I have seen this over and over again, until I had to believe it.
It is so EASY for people who don’t do this job to tell me how I’m doing it wrong. “Just stay home!” Oh, okay, you want to tell the person whose chronic opioids I’m supposed to write for that I can’t? You want to put the nurses through getting the on-call to write a bridge prescription? I write more ADHD meds than most of my peers—usually a lot more. You want to tell my colleagues to write meds they’re uncomfortable with? How about tell my suicidal patients (which is a lot of them!) that the provider they know and trust after months or years will be replaced today by a 70-year-old white man who still thinks they should pull themselves up by their bootstraps? Tell my queer patients that they have to wait until I’m better and back to get their hormones and their STI screenings, reschedule a Pap someone was dreading. Every day is a kaleidoscope of opportunities to make a real connection with “difficult” patients. I’m good at it. I may be the best at it at my clinic.
I don’t hate calling in sick just because the clinic manager is a judgy bitch, though that doesn’t help. I hate it because of what it does to my patients. And it’s not simple. Pretending it is does all of us a disservice. I am not a widget. I am not easily replaceable. You can’t plug any of our per diems (all men, 2/3 white, 2/3 old, 1/3 a Bitcoin bro) into my place and call it an equivalent, and my schedule is already so packed that if I call in sick, patients will be guilt-tripping me about it for months. I’m not kidding. That happens every single time.
Christ alive, I wish it was true that doctors never got sick.

Relationship Headcanons
Being in a relationship with Jiro would require a large amount of patience at first. Given his lack of social awareness, he would often need to be told what you need from him. You would need to sit him down and have a conversation about what kind of affection you like as he often just does what he's told. Finding out what he likes would take a bit of exploring. He rarely thinks of his own needs, so it's likely he doesn't even know what he wants. Once he does figure things out, you'll find him just going for what he wants, within reason. Don't be surprised if hugs and kisses come out of nowhere. He might pull you to sit on his lap or carry you someplace where he can keep you to himself. Jiro takes the path of least resistance, so be sure to tell him what you're not okay with. He will do his absolute best to commit it to memory. The goober sometimes forgets his own strength, so you may find your feet leaving the floor more often than you think. After a while, you'd begin to wonder if it's an accident or if he's lifting you on purpose. I think once he gets a taste of physical affection, he'll start to crave it. He'll hold you close while you're snuggled up together and he's reading a book. He'll start absently playing with your hair or leaning on you. He might even reach for your hand if you're close enough and otherwise unoccupied. The feeling of your warmth is a pleasure that he seeks over and over again. He tends to run a little cold in his extremities, so brace yourself for cold hands. Once he knows what you like, he will dote on you as much as he can. He has a hard time expressing emotion, so he compensates with these acts to make sure you felt as loved and appreciated as you make him feel. If there's ever a proposal, don't expect any grand, sweeping gestures. One day, when he feels it to be the appropriate timing, he'll just bring it up as casually as asking what's for dinner. He doesn't see the need for anything else when it's just a simple question. If you end up saying no, it wouldn't hurt his feelings any. He'd simply conclude it's not the right time and try again later (unless you explicitly say marriage isn't in the cards). Patience will still be required as he has a chronic illness. He'll need frequent treatments. He can't eat or drink anything without assistance. He gets sick easily. His wounds reopen frequently. Even so, he tries to work and make you happy, so it might become your job to make sure he gets rest. He can be easily coerced back into bed with some cuddles if he's not feeling well though. I'll make a separate post for the NSFW stuff once I figure that out.

Understanding Chronic Wounds: Symptoms, Causes, Treatment, and Recovery Tips
Chronic wounds are injuries that do not heal within the usual timeframe, often lasting weeks or months. These wounds can severely impact a person's quality of life, making early detection and treatment essential
Tumblr media
Symptoms of Chronic Wounds:
Persistent pain, redness, or swelling.
Slow healing or wounds that remain open for over four weeks.
Signs of infection like pus, foul odor, or warmth.
Discoloration of the surrounding skin.
Causes of Chronic Wounds:
Poor Circulation: Conditions like diabetes or venous insufficiency hinder blood flow.
Infections: Bacterial or fungal infections can delay healing.
Pressure: Long-term pressure, especially in bedridden patients, can cause ulcers.
Underlying Health Conditions: Diabetes, obesity, and weakened immunity contribute to chronic wounds.
Treatment for Chronic Wounds:
Debridement: Removing dead tissue to promote healing.
Advanced Dressings: Special dressings to maintain moisture and prevent infection.
Medications: Topical antibiotics or antiseptics.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Increases oxygen delivery for faster healing.
Recovery Tips for chronic wounds

house md warrior cats au. house is unaffiliated with clan cats, claiming he prefers loner life due to his kittypet heritage that leaves him open for clan-typical prejudices. still, sometimes he can be persuaded to be a hired cat for clans swept through with surprise illness or those without a medicine cat -- he's fickle but he bores easily, too, so he can bear some jeering in exchange for something to do. the only clan leader that seems to like him somewhat is codstar (cuddy) (cudstar is too unfortunate a name for her she's too pretty to be named president barf)
i'm thinking...... house used to be in plainsclan [codstar's clan, before she was leader] until his leg. maybe it wasn't an infarction, maybe a snake bite, maybe an infected wound?? either way he was out of commission and his judgment on his own treatment was not trusted (despite literally being a medicine cat) and instead deferred to those closest to him -- his best friend, codstar, and his mate, stillsight (stacy. like 'stay-see'. i thought actually saying 'staysee' but that looks awful like incredibly caucasian take on the name stacy)
as he was the only medicine cat at the time, no one's actually sure if them doing as house said while fevered and ill would have given him a better outcome than he got, but as it is, he's left with a lame leg that never stops hurting and the sick feeling of betrayal in his fur. he leaves the clan and stillsight steps down from her position as deputy. at least they remembered poppy seeds were for pain and had set some aside for him.
the little area house claims for his territory he uses to tend to his own personal poppy garden at the cost of not being able to stray too far from it. over time, though he takes more than he replants, flowers are ruined by bugs or disease, and he needs new seeds. how convenient that he remembers seeing some poppies in one of these yards.... all he has to do is swipe some before the twolegs or pets of the place catch him.
well that's how he met wilson. pretty as a showkitty and meowing through the mesh covering the patio -- a catio, ha. "hey, careful with those, too many of them can knock you out." which isn't really how house thought that would go but okay.
because like. duh. i know medicine, just look at me (house, looking haggard as hell from chronic pain + withdrawal)
"(sarcastically) yes, thank you.... (pretends to read wilson's collar tag from an entire backyard away, yes they're just meowing from like 20 ft away) princess, but i know my way around medicine. it's kinda my thing."
and wilson, unfazed, just. "that's not my name. you look like you know your way around medicine. if you didn't have that edge of desperation i'd assume you're overdosing, so i guess you're leaning the other way? withdrawal? so if you take as many as i think you have right now, you're gonna overdose since your resistance is down, and i'd really not want the kid of this house to find a dead kitty cat in the flowerbed."
and house just blinks. because holy fuck that sounded?? intelligent???? he's heard countless kittypets cry about the wild cats eating kittypet bones when the notion is downright stupid, because when has a cat even been able to digest other cat bones
needless to say house doesn't just hang around that yard for the poppy flowers.

Diabetic Sores on Legs and Related Conditions: A Comprehensive Exploration
Diabetes, a pervasive and enduring medical condition affecting millions of individuals globally, presents a constellation of complex complications. Among these, diabetic sores on legs, colloquially known as diabetic foot ulcers, stand out as a formidable challenge. The genesis of these sores intertwines with multifarious factors, encompassing compromised blood circulation, neuropathy-induced…

If someone was shot through the thigh (Nothing major hit, clean entry/exit wounds if logistically possible, how long would it take before they could walk without an aid of some kind? I'm counting hobbling and limping as walking.
Follow Up Question: Any idea what kind of med care that would need without getting a hospital involved with it?
So, this is one of those times where the answer really is, “it depends.” While you can't walk off a gunshot wound, getting shot in the leg might not actually stop you from walking or running, though this comes with a caveat that you're not going to make it especially far. Though the answer to, “how far?” could easily be, “as far as adrenaline will carry you.” This includes cases where the bullet fractures the bone, but doesn't completely shatter it. Though, those cases are going to be extremely unpleasant (for obvious reasons.)
Actual recovery times will vary wildly depending on far too many factors, and you can end up with chronic pain that never heals. Best case, you're looking at a couple weeks before the wound heals, most of the time you're looking at a few months, and lingering pain could last for over a year (if it ever does go away.)
While this is an unusual example, the warning about not aggravating a wound still applies, and trying to hobble around after getting shot is a fantastic way to inflict more harm on yourself. Figure it will take roughly ten weeks for the meat to properly heal up, and while you might be somewhat mobile before that time, it's probably a good idea not to overly stress it before it has fully recovered.
As for medical treatment, most of that is going to be packing it with gauze and (ideally) getting dosed out of your gourd on antibiotics. Gauze is easy, and the only real concern there is keeping you from leaking blood all over the place (while also providing some protection against future infection. The gauze needs to be changed, at least, daily, and the wound will need to be packed with gauze (so, not just wrapping it around the leg.) Getting the latter without a hospital is going to be a lot harder these days. The rise of antibiotic resistant bacteria strains means that these kinds of antibiotics are kept on a much shorter leash today. Unfortunately, it's also kinda critical for the whole, “not dying,” thing.
It turns out that the whole part about a bullet being hot enough to sterilize itself is a myth, so any bacteria on the bullet, and of course, any bacteria that gets into the wound itself after the fact, will have a very easy path to infection. Deep tissue wounds like this are a hugeinfection risk, and these are the kinds of infections that can easily turn lethal.
Of course, a doctor will be better able to assess whether the injury was actually a clean through'n'through, or if something was nicked. A bullet can easily graze an artery, leading to persistent bleeding that will kill the victim without surgical assistance, but won't be fast enough to look worrying. It's just when it doesn't stop after several days of bleeding, that they might realize this is very bad.
So, again, they could potentially be on their feet immediately after being shot. How long it would take them to recover is a lot harder to assess, and if they did insist in walking around, that could make things much worse.

Query; how much would Hyden taking proper medication and treatment for his real physical + mental ailments ACTUALLY do for his overall well-being?
Tumblr media
That's a good question! There certainly are things that hypothetically could help him, but it would depend on whether we're talking modern medicine or not. He's already getting the "best" treatment his time period can offer (a few magical charms, dozens of folk remedy tonics, some of which contain mercury, opium, and unicorn blood). I imagine he has a whole shelf of tonics, tinctures, and other oddball cures he's tried and discarded over the years.
Unfortunately, his most significant problems can't be treated with the medical knowledge of his time period. (Even magic doesn't help that much: Healing magic is somewhat primitive and falls more under "speed up rate at which a wound closes" rather than "cure chronic conditions, fix nerve damage, and stop a magic crystal from burrowing its roots into your frontal lobe".) So all Hyden can really do is (poorly) manage symptoms.
In a more modern setting: He would have many more options. Depending on how "modern" we're talking, he might be able to get his gigantism treated in childhood. His abnormal height meant a lifetime of joint and muscle issues, among other things, and early-onset osteoarthritis in his early 40s. Stopping him from growing so tall would prevent a lot of pain and inconvenience in his future. Other than that, physical therapy and a marginally less sedentary lifestyle could also help, if he stuck with it. However, even with modern medicine, his two primary non-magic-brain-crystal-related physical ailments (osteoarthritis and nerve damage) cannot be cured, only managed.
In terms of mental health, he'd be a very difficult person to treat. If he lived in a modern-ish time period, I do think he might get (mis)diagnosed as bipolar, and mood stabilizers probably would help with taming some of his most extreme and impulsive behavior. The problem is that he'd be really bad about taking medication as prescribed. For example: stopping a med cold turkey when he "feels fine" and suddenly starting it again during a "I'm so fucked up, there's something wrong with me" spiral after a wild manic bender lands him in trouble.
As he got older and his reckless behavior slowed down, he'd probably wind up with a regular prescription including an antipsychotic, antidepressant [of dubious effectiveness], painkiller, and a bunch of common middle aged person medications for blood pressure and the like. They might not fix him, but they'd certainly leave him feeling better than the sketchy medieval folk remedies he canonically takes, at least.
