evening at the tavern - terra battle soundtrack

The night air was crisp, subtle breeze carrying the smell of hemp plants. Pale, soft moonlight enshrouds the entirety of Tegridy farms. One could say it almost looked peaceful. Stalks of hemp were swaying, rustling faintly in the wind. A clock reads a quarter 'til two. The Marsh residence was dead asleep, except for the sounds of giggling and soft piano coming from the family barn. It was the end of finals week. To celebrate their hard work, Stan stole a little weed from his dad. It wasn't like he would have noticed, anyways.

Stan passes the blunt to Kyle, keeping the smoke in his lungs before exhaling slowly. Good shit. No matter how good his dad's weed was, it still made resentment and annoyance burn in the bottom of his gut. It only eased when he heard Kyle's laughter. It sounded like the whisper of wind chimes in the summertime. It made him forget about the bad things in life, about his father's irresponsibility and neglect.

Stan took another swig of his vodka and apple juice cocktail. It was all he had in the fridge. His back was pressed up against the arm of the couch, his left leg dangling off and his right stretched out on the cushions. Kyle was sitting crisscrossed right in the center of it all. They were so close that the lackluster insulation of the barn didn't bother them. Kyle was daintily sandwiching the blunt in between his index and middle fingers, like a cigarette. He took a hit, then smirked as he pressed it to Stan's lips, making him blush. Kyle relished the fact that he was the catalyst.

"Dance with me," he said, maneuvering his way off the couch. He didn't wait for Stan's answer as he pulled the red solo cup from his hand and set it on the snack-strewn wooden table. He bowed slightly and extended one out in front of him, the other on his heart.

"Sir?" Kyle looked up at him, bloodshot eyes full of mirth.

"God, you're full of it," Stan grumbled, accepting his hand anyways. Kyle smiled, placing his hands on Stan's waist. Stan's arms looped around Kyle's neck like fresh taffy on a candy hook. They swayed unhurriedly to the music, gazing into each other's eyes.

The full moon and a camping lantern were their only source of light. The moon's tranquil mercury beams trickled in from the windows. Kyle thanked Yahweh so. Stan always looked boyishly charming, but right now, bathed in the moonlight, Stan looked especially handsome. The small beauty mark at the corner of his left eye he wanted to kiss so badly. The almost sleepy expression he seemed to wear daily made him look adorable. His primrose pink lips that he wanted to nibble on. Emotion flooded Kyle's heart like a tsunami, but he forced himself to keep it at bay.

It's always been like this. Exchanges with double meanings. Conveying conversations with a single glance. Speaking harshly, but touching tenderly. Tiptoeing, no, dancing around each other. Their Pas de Deux. They always knew that they were more than just friends. They never really had to say anything about their love, but they both knew it was there. Like it was only natural.

"Penny for your thoughts?" Stan asked, noticing Kyle's faraway expression.

Stan cursed Kyle in his mind as he looked up at him, craning his neck. Over the years Kyle had grown taller than him. Kyle held him still, his thumb tracing Stan's bottom lip.

"Just thinkin' 'bout how we've never really said "I love you"."

Stan moved his head back slightly in surprise. "Waddaya mean? We say "I love you" and stuff." As friends.

"Not like that, silly". Kyle smiled at him, painfully endearing.

"O-oh." Stan swallowed roughly, cotton mouth discouraging him. He could feel a tightness grow in his throat. Jesus, it was embarrassing how mushy Kyle made him feel.

"Do you think you could tell me, Stan?"

"Anything."

"Do you love me?" Yes! Yes! Yes! Stan wanted to scream it from the rooftops. This time around, he settled for, "I love you, Kyle." At last.

Stan couldn't help but well up in tears. He pulled Kyle in, all his diffidence vanishing. " I love you. I promise it's not because we're drunk and high. You make my life easier to live. You give me the strength to carry on, even when I want so badly just to give up. I admire your sense of justice, and how you always try to fight back when you can. You're so talented and amazing. You're my best friend." He confesses thickly.

It was almost like Kyle was in a synagogue at this moment. He felt like he could worship Stan.

"I love you too, moj schatz," Kyle professed, wiping Stan's tears. "You calm my mind when I run too hot. You supported me when no one else knew how to. You're intelligent and brave. You make me feel complete."

Kyle's jade eyes grew dewy as he leans into Stan's face. Their lips were only just touching. "You're my best friend, and now, you're mine."

Kyle diminished the breadth between them. They kissed languidly. Hands tangled in hair, twinkling notes of piano keys resonating, the stars gleaming proudly, it was magical. They tasted like smoke and vodka, but they didn't care. Apple juice and devotion were sweet enough for them. They chased each other's tounges like they were running marathons.

I would choose you in any lifetime.

Ofc since you already had the Ruinous Quartet captured, they suspected you would've found some other rare/legendary Pokémon in that region, too.

You just had a knack for getting such powerful (and often dangerous) creatures to trust you.

So when you finally introduced Ogerpon to the group, they're completely thrown off-guard by her cutesy appearance.

But after the initial shock passes, you explain to them what you've learned about her during your time in Kitakami.

Nemona grins as you talk about her masks and how she acted in battle (while omitting the fact you challenged Kieran beforehand and severely humbled the poor guy).

Ogerpon is still kinda shy around new humans, but she's giddy over all the positive attention your fellow Paldean champion is giving her! So they warm up to each other pretty quickly.

Penny's just relieved that you didn't bring home another harbinger of doom.

Plus, she completely understands how Ogerpon felt about being outcasted and misunderstood...#relatable

Arven did read a little about the legend surrounding the Ogre and the Loyal Three in his free time, only to gawk as you explain that it's actually the opposite: the Three were the real villains of the story.

He wonders how tf an awful lie like that could be told for generations....but to his relief, you helped convince the village that Ogerpon was good at heart (and that you captured the Loyal Three and made them see the error of their ways).

He does sympathize with her losing her trainer/parent figure long ago, too.

Introducing Ogerpon to picnics was....interesting, to say the least.

She was shy about eating at the table with the rest of your Pokémon team, or even eating at all tbh.

Never before has she shared a meal with others.

The only exception was during the mask festivals where she and her trainer had to go undercover and act human.

So she puts on one of her masks as a nervous habit, but Nemona encourages her to remove it, reassuring her that she's safe and that she didn't have to hide anymore.

Her kindness brings tears to her eyes, but she's smiling nonetheless.

And you smile, too, watching your friends slowly yet surely help Ogerpon feel more at home here in Paldea.

You're glad she chose to come along with you.

hey!!! i use Paint Tool SAI 2!

as of the moment (which means i constantly change it) here is my main doodling/sketching/lineart brush:

my coloring brush: any hard edged basic brush will do, you can also use the bucket tool or the lasso tool, it's simply for coloring

my blushing brush: i blend this brush out by switching to transparency (making it an eraser) and lightly tapping the outside of the paint! (sai users, do this by pressing C on your keyboard. lifesaver been using this shortcut for years) it's versatile, i love using it for gradients

marker brush (usually for ecto): i use this brush only when i want to paint ecto (which i don't do often) but you can use this for other purposes too! it's not my favorite, not even good enough for ecto imo, because my sai 1 version is much better i blend things out the EXACT SAME WAY as the blush brush so please keep that in mind!

a basic brush im testing out for shading purposes: it has a little bit of texture and is made for baaasically cel shading but slightly softer and has the tiniest bit of color mixing

blending brush i barely use and don't actually really like that much: i'm still testing out blending brushes that i like because i can't find one that i like that isn't just blurring colors together or making them muddy when mixed together. if anybody has suggestions, PLEASE let me know! anything like a procreate or csp blending brush that can be recreated would be great

and finally, my rendering brush: it's basically a basic hard edged brush that can pick up the smallest bit of color i use it to clean up and add final touches by using the drop picker often and over the entire artwork

ofc, change anything to your preferences. that's how it goes these are just the settings that work for me :) this also goes for the program LOL i know sai is not for everyone (but it's my baby my bestie my 5ever so like this is about ME)

i have an in-depth post about my CSP brushes and how i work with them (and i don't really ever use csp unless it's a big piece so it's not changing anytime soon) if that's what you have or prefer

Things that overwhelmed me with sudden joy:

Seeing Final Fantasy 9 get new love and attention.

I fucking love that game so much and for so long. I always got flack for it too, it wasn't a very popular extension to the final fantasy universe, not in my avenues anyhow. I wanted to grab people by the shoulders and shake them "¡¡¿have you even played it!!!? I almost always refrained, choosing to take the "oh well it's not for everyone" stance, externally at least. I would just go home, try to remember which fuckin memory card I was keeping most recent save, and get lost in chocobo treasure hunting and card games for hours. I spent way more time playing jump rope with Vivi than I am comfortable admitting.

I'm so happy to see a new batch of players love it as much as I do.
