What kind of brushes do you use if you don't mind me asking 🥹❤️
yea of course :^)
I use paint tool sai 1.0 so unless you like your drawing software being old enough to drive this is probably not really useful !!
I use these two brushes for almost everything but like to mess with them a lot
#brush settings#im literally paying for a csp licence i almost never use because i keep going back to paint tool sai!!#it just gets me

dropping my most used Paint Tool Sai 2 brush that's the base of all of my sketches and rendering.
I will also make a list of my Photoshop brushes, it's just a bit difficult right now because I have way too many of them, they're unorganised because I deleted a lot of the ones I disliked, some were from a paid pack... maybe after the end of this month since it's my final exams this week

I know you've already answered questions about your brushes, I found some asks from 3 years ago, but I'm curious if you've changed things up somewhat or if you use the same brushes and settings from 3 years ago
I am not 100% sure! I could swear I haven't, but just in case I'll share them again!
Main drawing brush
My first brush is this! I use it to add color and to do lineart. The setting you see in 'Multiply' indicates it'll get darker the longer my stroke is or the more I press. Think of it as a pencil. I sometimes will change it to 'Normal' in case I don't want it to change
Blending brush
The second brush is for blending! It does not pain but it drags the colors in the active layer with transparency relative to the pressure (if you press hard, it'll drag it 100%, if you press less, it'll drag the color more diluted, also will blend with the other colors)
Chalk/crayon brush
There's an occasional third brush which is just a simple chalk stroke I use for details here and there.
That'd be about it! I'm always willing to share my resources, so be free to ask for anything anytime!

What app/program and brush do u use for ur art? I love ur art style!!!
Thank you!! I use clip studio paint and mostly use the standard G-Pen for almost everything. When I‘m bored I also use the more textured G-Pen for lineart and color over it later.
I made a small summary of my brushes (settings are in german though). I hope my handwriting is readable.
For hair I sometimes use the standard transparent watercolor brush. I adjusted the settings a bit (sometimes I press the pen a little to hard and my hand starts cramping so there are different versions).
For Illustrations I use the bottom brush for more textures. It‘s really good, I put the brush ID in.
Sometimes I also try out other brushes from the csp store, but the G-Pen is my go to brush 🤣

I absolutely love how you do lineart, can I ask what brush you use to get that "fuzzy" sort of effect?
Thank you! I use this brush on Medibang Paint pro, I think it was one of the basic Sumi brushes?
You can download the Sumi 4 Brush and then mess with the setting so they look as above
and to get that fuzzy look, you need to have 42% on this panel
Hope this helps!
#thanks for asking!#art info#brush settings#hi i manually went and tried to recreate the brush from start again and it IS the sumi 4 brush#maple talks

Hi! I love your art a lot!
I saw a doodle page you did, and I’m curious how you got your brush to be darker with more pressure applied? (or at least that’s how it looked to me—)
aaa thanks so much!
first of all, i use Paint Tool SAI, so lemme grab a few screenshots of my brush settings. i made these for myself and @invadergrabass to use in order to blend our styles for collabs; theyre based on our combined preferences so they will more than likely require customisation if youre interested in using them. regardless, they will help me explain, since not everything is easy to put into words for me lol
to make my brush respond to pressure the way it does, i first start with a default brush tool as opposed to a pencil. i set the minimum density to a non-zero percentage (usually between 10 and 40) depending on what i want to use it for, and lower the pressure sensitivity to 60. (this may differ for you, since i know i have a heavy hand and ive set my tablet sensitivity to a custom value. but the minimum size is key here.)
heres a demonstration:
(the brush kinda thickens up when a texture is added, which is part of why i reduce the pressure sensitivity)
i find the brush tool feels a lot like a gel pen when being used for linework. this tool is called Butter Brush because its extremely smooth to work with for my partner and i.
heres a breakdown of each brush and how i tend to use it:
Butter Basic is an all purpose tool, i use it equally often for sketching lining writing and shading. it has a minimum size of around 20%
Butter Sharp is for writing and more bold linework. it has a low minimum size for detail work. i rarely use this tool for sketching but i do sometimes use it in shading, and i prefer it if i have to do a lot of writing on an image. its pressure sensitivity is at 100 so i see less of the texture when using it. (you can see the difference in the two drawn arrows above, where the left is at 100 and the right is at 60.)
Butter Soft is my favourite sketch tool, and predictably the one with the highest minimum size. it is also extremely soft, and cant easily be used for writing. i use it extensively for shading, more often than the tools ive made specifically for shading lmao. i sometimes use it for lining also, since it is the most comfortable for me personally to use.
i hope this helps you or anyone else looking for help with their art!
(note: in an earlier version of this reply i accidentally said "minimum density" instead of "pressure sensitivity" in Butter Sharp's description)

I work in PaintTool Sai 2, as a heads up! There’s some custom textures here that I must have gotten a while ago, I think, so I unfortunately don’t remember what comes with the base sai 2, and what I’ve received separate. (I’ve been using these for a WHILE, now) - 8 times out of 10, I’ll use that first rough pencil-looking brush for pretty much everything. Even to digitally render most of my illustrations for added texture combined with the default airbrush tool to soften parts up. - The middle two get much less use, but are helpful when combined together! I fiddle with the settings of these two the most depending on what I’m using them for. - The basic brush is just that! I’ll sometimes switch out the form, but it’s essentially just the default brush tool, tweaked to my liking. I pair it with the smudge tool very often.
#brush settings#if I ever come across brush packs ive purchased before i'll be sure to share them#not art#letters to the bird#refs

Hey! I love your art so much and was wondering what brushes and/or art programs you use, I'm an artist myself and am just genuinely curious. Sorry if this is a strange ask or anything... I don't use or get on Tumblr too often. Thanks for reading this ask and have a good day/night. (This is my first ask to anyone I think)
hey!!! i use Paint Tool SAI 2!
as of the moment (which means i constantly change it) here is my main doodling/sketching/lineart brush:
my coloring brush: any hard edged basic brush will do, you can also use the bucket tool or the lasso tool, it's simply for coloring
my blushing brush: i blend this brush out by switching to transparency (making it an eraser) and lightly tapping the outside of the paint! (sai users, do this by pressing C on your keyboard. lifesaver been using this shortcut for years) it's versatile, i love using it for gradients
marker brush (usually for ecto): i use this brush only when i want to paint ecto (which i don't do often) but you can use this for other purposes too! it's not my favorite, not even good enough for ecto imo, because my sai 1 version is much better i blend things out the EXACT SAME WAY as the blush brush so please keep that in mind!
a basic brush im testing out for shading purposes: it has a little bit of texture and is made for baaasically cel shading but slightly softer and has the tiniest bit of color mixing
blending brush i barely use and don't actually really like that much: i'm still testing out blending brushes that i like because i can't find one that i like that isn't just blurring colors together or making them muddy when mixed together. if anybody has suggestions, PLEASE let me know! anything like a procreate or csp blending brush that can be recreated would be great
and finally, my rendering brush: it's basically a basic hard edged brush that can pick up the smallest bit of color i use it to clean up and add final touches by using the drop picker often and over the entire artwork
ofc, change anything to your preferences. that's how it goes these are just the settings that work for me :) this also goes for the program LOL i know sai is not for everyone (but it's my baby my bestie my 5ever so like this is about ME)
i have an in-depth post about my CSP brushes and how i work with them (and i don't really ever use csp unless it's a big piece so it's not changing anytime soon) if that's what you have or prefer
my #ref tag is also a treasure trove of my old settings over the years if you'd like to see those too

People were asking what brushes I use for coloring... and it's really just this one standard SAI 2 brush with either "simple circle" or "flat face" as the brushtip... And I shade/detail on the same layer as the base color for this brush to work best. Then the blending of the colors feels smooth and nice.

For your acrylic texture, is it a default texture in Paint Tool Sai? When I looked at my brush textures, I only have 3, none of them being the acrylic one.
I got you! Here's a link for the free acrylic texture. Add it to your PainToolSAI brushtex/papertex folder and you should be ready to go! These are my brush settings too if you're curious:
Just let me know if you have any other questions. Happy drawing! 😊
