5. Do you respond to comments? mostly yes! for like a solid 2 years i didn't but now i do again <3

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? ummm i think the only actually angsty ending i have is all too well adansey fic? i'm such a happy ending girlie that's the only one i can think of that doesn't end happily. for obvious reasons.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? i like to think pretty much everything i write ends happily but c&b proposal fic is what comes to mind since i finally finished it THREE ENTIRE YEARS LATER very recently

8. Do you get hate on fics? no i have been very lucky so far actually!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? no because i am afraid

10. Do you write crossovers? i do not!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? only the theoretical AUs that coco and i like to talk about but never commit to writing <3 although really you could consider coco my cowriter on most of my fics (especially c&b) like so much of them comes from her fr. love you coco <3333

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? oh i can't pick. that's like asking a mother to pick her favorite child. right now those dead gay french revolutionaries have my heart but tomorrow, who knows?

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? ugh i hate admitting defeat but. but. i am aware that beloved beloved pynch band fic will probably never be finished. which is a SHAME because i have soooooooo much of it planned out i mean like. i've got full albums designed. most of the beats are mapped out. i've got fake tweets written up, i've got chapter titles and scene drafts. like the entire concept is there and i'm so obsessed with it. but i just. after all these years it is extremely unlikely that i am going to actually, you know. write it.

16. What are your writing strengths? beginnings. i am so good at beginnings. that's why i have so many wips. also i like to think i'm good at dialogue. i try to write conversationally even when it's not actually a conversation and i think that translates well to actual dialogue it's fun.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? endings. i can't end anything to save my LIFE. also just plots in general escape me. and i always end up writing 10k more words than i meant to.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? um other people who can do it definitely should! i however cannot do that. i did however use my extremely limited knowledge of the french language for the section headings in my most recent fic and i like the effect it produced i think.

19. First fandom you wrote for? all evidence of their existence has been wiped from the face of the earth but my very first fics were one star wars fic and one agents of shield fic circa like. 2015.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? legally i'm obligated to say c&b but right now actually i'm still very very happy with how exr rooftop fic turned out. literally the entire time i was writing it i was just having a blast. i love writing angst and stuff it's like chewing on a polly pocket toy. now that i'm evil i never wanna write fluff again. i'm torturing those fictional guys fr.

most of my fics predate ao3 and while i backloaded the TRC ones on, I can't be bothered doing the same for the FMA fic i wrote 20 years ago. and the SPN stuff, uh, well, AO3 kind of did it for me! i woke up one day and an old archive i forgot my fic was on had been ported to the archive, all my spn fics helpfully attached to my account in the process. when i tell you i orphaned them at something like the speed of light -

5. do you respond to comments? Um.... I MEAN to, but.... i'm not great at remembering...? i really cherish every one i receive and i KNOW it's bad of me, i can only offer apologies.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? i literally just write happy endings i can't answer this

7. what is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? how are defining happy??? look mikke takes the piss out of me ALL THE TIME for my definition of fluff, ever since i entered a fluff vs angst competition on the side of team fluff with a story in which one half of the otp was tortured and murdered (he got better)! *i* define a happy ending as one in which, during the course of the story, a character grows and develops. by that metric, an ending where the character loses everything and everyone they love but gains a mindset enabling them to find peace with the loss is a happy ending, TO ME. a sad ending, by contrast, is one in the character does not grow or change, and stays in the same state (or worse!) than they started the story.

so with that in mind, probably through a forest wilderness. people die! anders and hawke are rejected as monstrous by the people they tried to save! but they gained one (1) feral orphan and solved their relationship issues, d'awwww. <3

8. do you get hate on fics? nope

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind? yes, but not in EVERY story. i find smut to require a lot of effort to write! there's complex choreography and emotions to handle... the only thing harder (HEHEHE) is fight scenes for the exact same reason

10. do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you’ve written? i'm not interested in crossovers (blorbos from series a meet blorbos from series b) but i love a good fusion fic, where blorbos from series a have always lived in the world of series b. craziest... probs the trc/wow fusion fic i wrote for an audience of three people? idk i've written a lot! i dreamed of a zukka howl's moving castle fusion a few days ago (probably inspired by chiptrillino's gorgeous illustrations she's been sharing recently) so that was pretty fun, as someone who very, very rarely remembers my dreams.

11. have you ever had a fic stolen? nope!

12. have you ever had a fic translated? yeah, to russian!

13. have you ever co-written a fic before? yeah, @mikkeneko and i wrote a whole SPACE OPERA. well. half of one, i guess (oops).

16. what are your writing strengths? EMOTIONS. also i think i write humour well?

17. what are your writing weaknesses? starting, continuing and finishing. /sob

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? even if you're fluent in that language, it alienates more people than it impresses, i think. i love using other languages as an easter egg (like rana has a character named with a cantonese pun in the iconoclast) but whole dialogue is like... very hard to pull off, and outright mortifying if you don't actually speak the language and just google translate it.

19. first fandom you wrote for? the legend of zelda! my irl friends and i (aged 13) had a massive shared self-insert 'verse going on. my first steps into fandom PROPER tho was with fullmetal alchemist.

20. favourite fic you’ve written? this is a complex question because how do you define favourite? swift illuminations was probably the most fun to write (anders vs hawke arm wrestling) and i always enjoy getting to write comedy - your princess is in another castle has my favourite lines i've ever written, for example:

"Can I go?" Yuui asked Ashura. Despairing it was, then. At least he wasn't naked. It was a low bar to meet in terms of presentation, but so far two of the six people in this room weren't making it.

these skies are breaking i've always been fond of because it's 35k and i wrote it in two days but the plot is uhhhhhh. missing. ash on the windowsill same sitch, 50k in 36 hours and my first completed multi-chapter fic but i wince at how clumsy it is when i reread it. i'm proud of a lot of my later dragon age fics because they contain better exploration of ideas and characterisation, so... idk. toss up!

but in terms of stuff i'm most satisfied with, probs 'how to love a god' this short character exploration piece i wrote for the anderszine. first time writing second person and because of the zine space limit i had a hard maximum word count too so i agonized over every word choice. i don't really edit my own stuff - i post it pretty much hot off the hoop - but i did actually enjoy doing it that time.

hi anon! thanks for the ask! I haven't done a "top" or "favorites" list but I just made my trc/tdt bookmarks on ao3 public so feel free to check those out. i normally bookmark fics i want to re-read and i've been sometimes posting a "fics i read this week" post where i bookmark fics from my history to post here on tumblr.

if you want to stay for a while i can tell you why i don't like top/favorites lists but no worries if you wanna stop reading now 🙃 and also i def dont mean to project any of this below toward you, anon, i really appreciate the question! however, when someone asks me something (esp on anon), i wanna be able to share my feelings on the subject, so here are just my thoughts on the topic of this.

i don't like favorites/top lists in fandom for a number of reasons:

I am SUPER indecisive - I read fic all the damn time and I have loved so many fics I read that if I made a favorites list, it would be 100+ long haha not super digestible for folks to read/pick and choose from. My bookmarks, for example, is over 120+ at the moment and I add to it nearly every week.

I am SUPER forgetful - I sometimes forget to bookmark or save a fic that I read and loved and then it feels like its gone forever. My bookmarks is not a solid list of every fic I've read and loved and people remind me of fics that I think "OMG I LOVED THAT ONE" like every week and I realize I didn't save it so even if I did make a favorites list it would probably be the faves I remember at that moment and not an accurate representation of all the trc fic I've been reading since 2021.

I am SUPER against it - this could just be from my experience in the marauders fandom, but I hate when authors are put on a pedestal or seen as "the best of the fandom" because I don't want to deter anyone from writing fic or creating content in the fandom they love. I've been writing fic since I was 13 (I am 30 now) and we didn't have influencer culture or rating fics on goodreads or speculating authors irl identities on tiktok. (Again this is mainly hp/marauders fandom toxicity hence why I'm outta there, but I think this must also permeate other fandoms - thankfully not trc that I've seen.)

Anyway, my point being - creating content (fic, art, music, etc) for a fandom you love is BEAUTIFUL and I don't want to contribute to the emphasis on number of kudos, bookmarks, and/or comments - that stuff shouldn't matter to readers and it shouldn't matter to writers either. And sometimes when these "favorites" lists come out, it makes the creators (artists, writers, etc) feel like their stuff isn't good enough. With the trc fandom already being so small (I think? where is everyone?) I don't want to contribute to that narrative.

TLDR: Liz, it's not that serious. I know but I was in the marauders fandom around the big boom of ATYD so like I've seen some toxic-ass shit. ty 💕

Hi! I're read the news about a TBX event and I've read all of the manga, again. Now I'm drowning on my feels and I need to vent.

Just a couple of info to start!

1- I love Kamui, his character cuts me deeply. I'm waiting for him to save the world 💜

2- I really enjoy lots of characters in X, but my faves surely are Kamui, Fuuma (and other Kamui), Subaru. I'm very intrigued by Seishirou as well, but Hannibal ruined him a bit. I mean, that's a classy serial killer with an actual plan to possess the love of his life. Anyhow, Seishirou is an intrinsic part of Subaru and the end of TB/ X volume 16 is a masterpiece.

3- more excited about lil panel where Kamui, Subaru, Fuuma and Seishirou are together in a church than the whole ending of TRC.

4- TRC!Kamui my beloved

5- X symbolism sustains me

6- X being more topical now than in the 90s

7- X fandom being sleeping, me continuing to masochistically choose lil fandoms

oh I should have specified I always prefer fandom qualifiers with ask games because I’m so multi fandom. but when in doubt I’ll just go with my hyperfixation which is trc:

ship that makes you smile: probably Blue x Noah although I also think there’s some more fucked up potential with it especially the part of her giving him energy over and over again because she loves him so much scenes like when she saves him in TRK by doing this, but in general their interactions are very sweet and I’ve said this before but I especially like that Blue can be totally herself around him and not have to reflect, since they’re both mirrors and cancel each other out in a sense. And the kiss scene is really sweet but also pretty tragic.. There are definitely Bluesey scenes that make me smile ex: anytime Gansey is unknowingly flirting in a really embarrassing way like with the promise to recycle that coffee bottle at 300 fox way, anytime Blue insults his clothes while also clearly being attracted to him despite thinking they’re so fucking stupid, the yogurt eating, like a platypus etc. but I also tend to love their angstier beats

thinking about the odd divide between the raven cycle and the dreamer trilogy. it’s an unusual sitch in that IMHO the dreamer trilogy is the rare example of a spin off series that feels at times more though through and certainly with a stronger emotional drive behind it than the raven cycle did, and also unusual in featuring the same world and some repeat characters but in a story that feels deeply, deeply different to TRC in almost every stylistic way. I wouldn’t call TRC bog standard YA but it DID play upon some really classic ya material like a magical small town, a plucky group of friends, a rich fancy boys school, the power of friendship saving everything etc in a way that certainly felt like a broader part of the YA market. it was also always an ensemble piece with Ronan as part of the broader ensemble, who remained an interesting character because while certainly an author and fan favorite, he sometimes didn’t feel like he or his family really... jived with the tone of the rest of it, in interesting ways. but we have the dreamer trilogy now, and while it’s certainly WRITTEn by the same writer everything about the world has changed. TRC was stylistically deeply a dramedy and therefor ruled by the interior logic of a dramedy- things could happen to the plot according to the rules of dramedy, and for comedic effect. TDT has comic elements but pushes far more strongly into drama. the rules have changed- irrational things happen now, but as internal character beats and along the rules, more often now, of a straight up tragic drama driven by character’s flaws and unresolved traumas. the focus has also shifted from friendship (with family also important) very strongly to family, and it’s for me one of the most interesting takes on family I've seen in fiction, with relationships so much more messy and jagged and complicated. I'd also argue TDT is one of the first series I've read that really strongly explores what can be done with the New Adult genre. it feels really refreshing IMHO to see characters post high school in the 17-24 ish range of. what the fuck happens now. the question is no longer who am I of YA but who am I, and who can I be, in relation to other people? But it’s also dark in the way not of darkness existing in the world but of probing what darkness exists inside every main character as a source of drama rather than an external evil to act against, and deeply discomfiting for that. anyway this is a long ramble I'm just thinking about what makes TRC and TDT feel so deeply DEEPLY different to me and also the odd fandom thing we have now of TRC being more popular and having more fandom content by orders of MAGNITUDE, when TDT is still ongoing.

For real, I've been seeing a LOT of posts lately about reblogging rather than just liking posts and I get it. I really do.

I've taken a break from blogging here for over a year, it's not something I planned, it just sort of happened. And the longer I went without posting the harder it got to just click that reblog button. But I've been around, because fandom and media and analysis are still where I find my escape, and yes I've been liking posts so I could find them later, despite being a tumblr elder and knowing that's not what we do here.

Sometimes it's just about mental health.

Anyway, here I am, and you'll never catch me telling anyone it's not okay to just click the like button if that's all you can do. But I am listening to the message of those posts I've read, which are all about saving fandom and promoting creativity, and I'm going to try to start reblogging things again. Maybe I'll tell myself it's okay to just use that quick reblog function, and that not every post needs a novel in the tags, and see how it goes.

trc deleted scenes: a masterpost

this is a post born primarily out of personal interest/necessity but i hope it will be useful to other people too. outtakes and cut scenes from trc have been floating around fandom spaces for a while, but they are infuriatingly hard to track down: some of them have been reblogged without tags and are therefore lost in the depths of tumblr, some i did not get to reblog before maggie deleted her tumblr, and some were posted to twitter and subsequently deleted.

so, since i was tired of having to dig through months and months of my trc tag (and often coming up empty handed), i decided to compile all the deleted scenes i could into this post. it is possible that i have forgotten some, and if that is the case, please let me know.

i owe a big debt of gratitude to kelly @harvardparrish for compiling a downloadable archive of maggie’s tumblr; most of the outtakes below i retrieved by browsing maggie’s “how i write” tag in the archive and taking screenshots of the relevant posts. others were screenshots that were posted to twitter by maggie, which i managed to save before the tweets were deleted.

pretty wild stuff, right? i feel like the fox way ladies riding off into the sunset on gansey’s camaro is something we deserved in our lives :D

the dream thieves

this is the first real bunch of deleted scenes we got, and it’s pretty juicy. in fact, it’s the freakin’ motherlode of deleted scenes (and yes, it includes the fabled “fuck, is that ovid?” line). it was posted to maggie’s tumblr in december 2015, and happily, the actual post can still be accessed through the wayback machine at this link. below are screenshots from the archive:

i actually couldn’t find any deleted scenes for bllb!! this could be because maggie’s computer was hacked twice and she said she lost a lot of material (or it could be because bllb is perfect and there was nothing to cut... i’m just saying)

trk has quite a few cut scenes!! here are some that maggie posted to her tumblr in november 2016:

and here we have a couple more deleted scenes from trk, including one of adam’s most savage and iconic burns (it’s not outright stated as trk, but they mention ronan’s birthday and it seems to be winter so it’s a fairly safe guess). they were posted to maggie’s tumblr in march 2019, and i actually managed to reblog that post. below are screenshots from the archive:

...and last but not least, some scenes that maggie posted to twitter on 21st March 2020. the tweets have since been deleted, and i’m not sure i was able to save all the images - i was mostly excitedly sharing them with my friends, so it’s possible i skipped one or two. hopefully not though!

these first 4 images were introduced by maggie as “some totally out of context deleted pages from one of the drafts of The Raven King with all the spoilers for Dreamer Trilogy hacked out”. make of that what you will.

then there’s this ominous little snippet, which i would guess is an alternate version of adam being affected by the unmaker/demon:
