There are apples, and then there areĀ apples.
And this would be the latter. In fact, apples really don't come much bigger. If this particularly large apple were a nation-state, it would have the tenth-largest economy in the world. Which is pretty good, for an apple.
But this is New York City, after all, and its reputation precedes it. Sometimes described as the world's most important city, sometimes as the capital of the world, it truly is all things at once. It is defined by its fevered, electric pace of life. A global city in which 800 languages are spoken, it is a cultural, historical, sporting, and political superpower. It is, famously,Ā The City That Never Sleeps. Better still, it enforces a right-to-shelter law ensuring, in the legislature, a bed and roof for anyone who needs one, regardless of immigration status.
Today it transpires thatĀ #new yorkĀ is trending. A lot is going on, so take your time. Enjoy it.

Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer tell a decades-spanning love story, set against a dark time in American history, in the miniseries "Fellow Travelers."
"It's a once or twice in a career experience to get to tell characters' stories for three plus decades," Bomer tells TODAY.com.
It also seems to be a "once or twice in a career" friendship between the two stars.
As we sit down to chat after their appearance on TODAY, I tell Bailey this interview will be audio-only, not on camera.
"So you'll get to hear Matt's Elphaba riff," Bailey jokes, before Bomer belts out a near-perfect tenor rendition of the closing notes of "Defying Gravity."
In addition to "Fellow Travelers," which premiered on Showtime in October 2023 and led to both stars receiving Emmy nominations, Bailey is also gearing up for the release of the film adaptation of "Wicked."
"I wore my emerald shirt to support," Bomer says later.
Throughout the interview, they share effusive praise for each other. Bomer was a "huge fan" of Bailey's work before they met, he says, and the "Bridgerton" actor then "exceeded all expectations." Bailey credits Bomer, who served as an executive producer on the show, with making "the whole thing happen."
"He's been a hero for a long time," Bailey says of his co-star.
Their friendship may be the happily ever after that, on its surface, is absent from their show.
"Fellow Travelers" chronicles the love story between political consultants Hawkins "Hawk" Fuller (Bomer) and Tim Laughlin (Bailey) over the course of four decades. Their relationship starts against the backdrop of the Lavender Scare in 1950s Washington D.C. and runs all the way up to San Francisco in the '80s, at the start of the AIDS epidemic.
The show is romantic, sexy, moving and devastating, right up until the last line.
An 'instantaneous' friendship
Bomer says their friendship was "instantaneous."
"I feel like we went from coworkers to friends the first time we read together," he says. "It was so great to have someone I could completely trust as my scene partner and lean on and who made me better every day as an actor an a person at times."
He adds, "It was never really an effort."
Because their characters maintain an off-and-on again relationship over the years, Bailey and Bomer saw their characters through different ages and life phases.
That ā€œnature of the love storyā€ means they ā€œgrew with every scene," Bailey says.
"One of the most bonding experiences was seeing each other turning up through the different decades ā€” see how we were aging, sometimes gracefully, sometimes not, and then sometimes gracefully again,ā€ he says. "We're bonded, I'd say, for life."
ā€˜Fellow Travelers,ā€™ ā€˜Bridgertonā€™ and ā€˜Wickedā€™ ā€”Ā oh my!
The intensity of the show's emotions was matched by the intensity of filming.
Bailey, known for his breakout role as romantic hero Anthony in "Bridgerton" Season 2, filmed Season 3 of "Bridgerton"Ā and his upcoming film "Wicked" at the same time as the Showtime drama.
When asked on TODAY Aug. 16 how he kept all the roles in his head, he simply answered, "I don't know."
But he did recall a time when his roles as Tim in "Fellow Travelers" and Fiyero in "Wicked" overlapped.
"There was one afternoon where we had a two-way trailer," Bailey said. "And the trailer was sort of rocking."
"I was like, 'What's going on in Johnny's trailer?'" Bomer recalled.
"I came out really sweaty," Bailey continued. "My Tim glasses were on, and I had on Adidas from the waist down, and I had been practicing my 'Wicked' choreography."
At its busiest, "Fellow Travelers" filmed for entire days ā€” literally.
"Some of the days were like 20 hours," Bailey recalls to TODAY.com.
They filmed Episode 6, "Beyond Measure," largely set in the ā€˜60s ā€”years since Tim and Hawk last spoke ā€” in about three days, Bailey says.
"We had to wrap the show. You had places you had to be, and the schedule was so tight, we were just doing 18-hour days, 20-hour days," Bomer adds.
This happened after theactors had filmed the final scenes of the show.
"So we'd done the real heavy moment ā€”," Bailey says, as Bomer adds, "We had this great release for the whole experience. But then we had to go back."
And about that ending...
"Fellow Travelers" turns out to be a frame narrative. The show both opens and ends in the '80s during Tim and Hawk's last reunion, before Tim dies of complications from AIDS.
Tim's death is not shown on screen. Instead, it's revealed through the final scene, which sees Hawk and his daughter looking at Tim's name on the AIDS Memorial Quilt in 1987. For the first time, Hawk tells her about his relationship with Tim.
The last lines of the show are Bomer's.
"He wasn't my friend. He was the man I loved," Hawk says.
Both actors confirm that the last time Tim and Hawk saw each other was in 1986 at the political gala shown in Episode 8. After Tim tries and fails to get an audience with the California governor to advocate for a crucial AIDS bill, he interrupts the event with a protest. But before taking the stage, Hawk kisses Tim, who then tells his longtime love to go home.
"I have to fight this fight. That means letting go of everything else. And if you're around, I will not be able to let go," Tim says.
Bomer calls their ending "brilliant."
"To see Tim in this moment of absolute triumph, where he is his most authentic self, pumping his fist in the air with a passion and a cause ā€” everything that he had tried to hard to be in the '50s, he is celebrating out loud in the '80s," Bomer says. "I just thought it was such a beautiful, heartbreaking way to go out."
Timā€™s arc ā€œends with his strongest moment, even though his body is dying," Bailey adds.
Hawk meanwhile, "hits the 'f-it' button," Bomer says.
"To kiss Tim openly is such a huge, revolutionary act (for Hawk)," he adds. "So he's definitely made the choice that he's going to take a complete new path for his life."
Bailey says the gala was the last time Tim and Hawk saw each other ā€œin this world.ā€
"From the last scene, you can tell that he will live on as Hawk's great love of his life," Bomer adds. "Forever."

I just recently started following you so i don't have the full lore of your murderous gay religiously traumatized doggos, BUT, from my understanding, they are Italian and i don't know what part of Italy they are from, yet i can't help headcanoning Vasco as Tuscan, while Machete is probably from some part of Veneto. And as an Italian who has heard Tuscans and Veneto dialet, well it's an hilarious mental image.
Vasco is indeed Tuscan, Florentine to be specific. He comes from a wealthy and influential noble family that has lived in Florence for centuries. He's proud of his roots, and it's usually easy for strangers to tell where he's from. He's a resonably successful politician and has worked as an ambassador and representative of Florence on numerous occasions.
Machete is originally Sicilian (ironically about as far from Veneto as possible), although he was taken to mainland at young age and has lived in several places since then, before ending up in Rome. The way I see it, he exhibits very little local color, his demeanor and (even though Italian hadn't become a standardized language yet) way of speaking are formal, neutral and scarcely give away any hints about his personal history, at least in the 16th century canon.

I'm not sure if I told you guys about the time I dreamed that 20ish Jason Todd died yet again and Death was pissed off because "really? Again? Wtf Batman. The universe doesn't keep reviving your son just so you can see how much he lasts!" And "He has a work to do you know?!". Besides, she's fond of the bright young soul.
So, she calls her uncle to help him. And what you know? Her uncle is the God of Death (because yes, my brain is like that sometimes). They sit to talk and come up with a solution.
First, taking advantage of the effects still present of the last time-space crisis and the spirits protecting the soul, they regress the time of this universe to when Jay had just left All Caste, way before he had came back to Gotham.
Then, Death places Red Hood!Jason's memories on the soul of his younger self. Not too harsh to force his soul to crack, but not too light to let them fall. Just deep enough so he finds them when he meditates.
And by last, God of Death tells the spirits where they should guide the boy to. The perfect place for him.
Where is the best place for a soul who craves for home and safety? Of course, that's with someone who has the heart to care and accept a new loved one and the determination to protect them.
That's how Jason Todd, teenage assassin in an existential crisis, ends up waking up in the softest bed he has ever been in some foreign country. At his side there's a redhead teen sitting in a sofa, a book in his hands and other boyā€” this one with black hair and pajamasā€” lying on his lap.
The redheadā€” Cale, as he presents himselfā€” is mysterious but kind hearted guy. He also knows things. So much so that if he weren't as he is, Jason would suspect. As things are, he knows he's just used to collect information. A bit like a bat, but not quite. A bat would plan how to use it against the possible enemy. Cale? Well, he doesn't even bother to hide what he realized about him. He's also ridiculously casual about it.
Who offers an assassin if they want their hidden weapons back? This guy, apparently.
Jason only knows he's not totally unconscious because at one point an old guy entered with tea and pastries for the three and Cale, the little shit, choose that moment to reassure Jason.
"Don't worry. My butler is an assassin too and we don't treat him different for it."
The old geezer almost let got the porcelain teapot to the floor. Though, points for him for recovering so fast.
"Young master? May this Ron know who you would be talking about?"
"Hm? Who do you think? Hans? The only thing he can kill is Rok Soo's humor. It's you, obviously."
"..."
Rok Soo, the sleeping beauty complex guy pretending to be asleep on Cale's lap, was sweating badly. If everyone in the room weren't already aware he was clearly pretending, someone may had thought he was ill.
Later on, he realizes there was a reason Cale had said that at that moment.
He's looking at the butler subtly terrorize the boys to behave, treating the siblings like two particularly mischievous puppies. Then he turns around and uses the same tune to advise him to be careful with his wounds. And that's when he thinks 'Oh. He doesn't see me as a menace'.
Of course he doesn't. His employer just confirmed he's aware of his identityā€” at least partiallyā€” and his own nature. The biggest advantage of an assassin is their secrecy. After their identity is exposed, the only reason they won't attack is if the assassin believes the risk is worthy. Telling the assassin he knows he's an assassin was his way to show Jason's own intentions: none.
Jason didn't intend to end up in that field where these teens find him. He didn't intend to be brought in their vacation house. He definitely didn't plan that the people to found him passed out would be whoever these rich guys were.
But he didn't have anything against all of this either.
Well, maybe the wound. He could make it without the blood loose and the soon-to-be scar to add to his collection.
Either way, at least he had a safe place to stay and think. Just think. Because, the memories he sawā€” what is he supposed to do now that he has his answer?
His daā€” Bruce. Bruce didn't care for him as much as Jason does for Bruce. Bruce obviously didn't love him as he thought. And certainly, Bruce was way more willingly to harm him than he believed.
And Jasonā€” well, Jason couldn't waste a second life on a man who didn't put hin even at the same level than the Joker of all people. But maybe his expectatives were too high? He hadn't planned what to do if his life was meaningless to him.
So, Jason needed time. Time to ponder and heal. Those things are better done in a safe place.
That's what Jason has in mind when Cale offers him to stay with them.

Rage: Violent or uncontrollable anger.
I have studied the human race for months now but today is the day I have learned to fear them. Forget their unpredictable bodies, or overly complex inventions, or the horrific moments that crowd their history. It was only today I feared for my life in the presence of a human being.
I often record anger in incident reports and the like, but women make up a very tiny proportion of that. They tend to "keep their cool" ( a human turn of phrase) better than men on average. This doesn't seem to be a natural attribute but more of a learned survival mechanism against violence and abuse. It only seems to break the surface in grief or after years of trauma. But the new astrophysics intern Colette [Last Name Redacted] showed me a new human emotion. Rage.
Our ships astrophysics department was partnering with our engineering department to design a small weapons craft to protect us from the "space pirates" or looters we keep encountering. I had created a bond of "friendship" with little Colette, I suppose little doesn't fit. She is above average height and slightly underweight, (she is having trouble adjusting to our menu due to "texture issues" which I need to educate myself on). Moving forward. She came to speak to me on a very serious matter a week ago exactly while I was on my daily rounds. This was the reason I was behind schedule, she has, and I quote, "little legs" in comparison to mine. Colette spoke of the weapons project she had been assigned too. She spoke at length about her supervisors who wouldn't listen to her. She had discovered a bug in the engine system. A four that looked like a nine or something of that nature, and believed it to put the test pilots in danger. She requested that I ask management to promote her so that her voice would be listened too. I tried to calm her worries but she was insistent so I told her I'd try to bring it up in the next meeting. That meeting was yesterday. In the six days between our conversation and my turn to give my reports for the management council, I had talked myself out of my promise. I figured that her superiors knew best and she was just ambitious and maybe she didn't see what she thought she saw. Regardless, it is the biggest regret I carry.
The test flight launched today. The entire crew was given an hour additional break to watch. Colette tried to prevent the launch, arguing with the head scientists, trying to show them test she ran digitally, but they had security pull her back. She came to find me, asking if I spoke to management. I didn't answer. The announcer counted down in human numerals.
10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 LAUNCH
I breathed a sigh of relief as the craft glided safely away, but Colette didn't, she didn't move an inch. The projects leader gave instructions through a radio. The experimental engines roared to life. Then, a moment of silence. Before the entire space craft was engulfed in a cloud of fire and gas. The silent explosion shook the floor beneath us as gasps and screams gave it a voice. The entire crew was killed. Many of them, friends or family of the onlookers. The onboard medic, the project leader's son and Colette's young husband. She collapsed to the ground sobbing, unable to stand on her shaking legs. I couldn't get her to move. I didn't try very hard.
Security swarmed the crowd, pushing them back from the windows and herding the grieving crowd to the different living areas. Many had to be carried. I carried Colette.
Hours later, after an emergency meeting and a meal, everyone was in bed. All but the council, security, the engineering department,and the astrophysics department. We sat in heavy silence as the project leader explained the error that lead to this tragedy. I studied him closely. No tears, just a stone cold face and a tremor in his hands. Suddenly the doors crashed open as Colette burst in. She wasn't grieving now. Colette grabbed the microphone from the leader's hand and threw it at the wall. It went straight through. Then she spoke. Shaking slightly, controlled rage gave the impression of bullets falling from her mouth with each syllable. "Murderers. You are all murderers." No one moved as we took on the weight of her statements. She spoke again but this time it was wasn't controlled. This time her rage wasn't an undertone but the message. This time she screamed it in a voice that echoed around the room and shook with each new sob.
"I TOLD YOU! I FING TOLD YOU THEY WOULD DIE! WHY DIDN'T YOU LISTEN TO ME?! HOW COULD YOU KILL THEM LIKE THAT?! IT'S YOUR FING FAULT!"
She broke anything within reach. A mug, "THEY WERE YOUR TEAM!" a chair, "WHY DIDN'T YOU PROTECT THEM?" a table, "YOUR OWN SON AND YOU STAND HERE CALLING IT AN ACCIDENT!" her voice. "IF YOU HAD BELIEVED ME AND MY EVIDENCE INSTEAD OF PLAYING F***ING POLITICSā€¦"
She stopped. She stopped screaming, stopped crying, stopped expressing her pain. She bottled it up and wiped her face with her sweaters sleeve. She just stared at him. Taking deep breaths as he shook under her gaze. "Why didn't you listen to him? To me?" He fought back his tears and straightened his jacket. "Abe knew the risks-" Colette stepped forward and punched him hard, his nose making an audible crunch. Blood stained her knuckles as she hit him again and again. Finally I got up and grabbed her around her middle, pulling her off before she went to far. The leader whimpered and leaned on a table as she fought to get to him. To tear him apart. Finally she just stood rigidity holding onto me. "Never say his name again. You aren't his father. You're a murderer and you never deserved Abraham." She spit at his feet.
"Coward."
I pulled her out of the meeting hall, locked her in her quarters, and stood guard. I relive her plea for me to approach the council on her behalf. I cannot deny my part in the crew's death and doubt I'll ever forgive myself. Colette will surely never forgive me either.
In conclusion, I advise the guilty professionals and researchers transferred and tried. Both for the safety of our crew and themselves. Their professional licenses should be revoked no matter the outcome of their individual trials. We also need to form a mental health department and start providing dietary options for all diets and sensitivities. I also advise (though I recognize my lack of authority on the matter) that crewmember Colette [Last Name Redacted] be released of all charges and assigned a personal therapist of her choosing. As for the other loved ones of our lost crew, they should also receive support options and memorials for their lost and any other requests we can fulfil. I pray we never have a similar story to tell the next generation.

once you realize that life really isnā€™t that serious, it gets so much better. like im serious. im well aware there are a million posts and sayings just like this, but itā€™s true. I used to be so crippled by the worry of what other people thought of me (granted i still struggle at times) but once you realize that nothing matters. itā€™s so freeing. like yeah. maybe that person thinks you dress weird. or that you have a funny hairstyle. or a million other things. who cares??? youā€™re never gonna see them again! you get one life! live it! be weird! be yourself! be authentic! who cares?? once i started looking at life as this one experience, i wanted it to be a great one. no more caring what other people think. doing things because i want to and because i like them. someone thinks my plushies are childish? who cares? they make me happy. theyā€™re mine. i love them. why should someone else dictate what i do with my life. itā€™s mine for a reason. i donā€™t tell you what to do with yours, donā€™t tell me what to do with mine. once you start living like youā€™re stuck in a studio ghibli movie, life gets 100% more bearable, enjoyable even. i used to be stuck in such a self-deprecating, depressing, anxious cycle. now? yeah i still have those moments, but theyā€™re smaller and more manageable. because i know. life is full of so many beautiful things. and if i need to indulge in my inner child to get through the day, then i will. i implore you. do the same.

Details on the Situation Where Travelers on Certain PC Devices Cannot Enter the Game
After the Version 4.3 update, Travelers on certain PC devices that fail to meet the minimum PC specifications (mainly devices with CPUs that do not support SSE4.1) can be unable to enter the game.
In subsequent versions, we will attempt to optimize the game so as to allow Travelers on said devices to enter the game as well.
Please note that Travelers using devices that fail to meet the minimum specifications may still experience frequent crashes or lag issues after entering the game.
We recommend Travelers using said devices try playing on other devices or platforms.
You can refer to the most recently released "Minimum Specifications and Recommended Specifications" to check if your current device meets the game's requirements.

me after attempting to get back into sims and realizing i had a lot more to do than play the game
#hi everyone#Iā€™m going around hugging you all#okay now that we are gathered here today#i will simply acknowledge that i have been gone for a very long time and then also acknowledge that maybe it was for the best#i relied on sims to be my only creative activity even if i tried to write a book at the same time#and also. i prioritized sims over real life responsibilities. thatā€™s just a deadly combination lol#but I recently noticed I just replaced sims with Netflix. with YouTube. with anything that gave me quick dopamine#literally became addicted in a sense. still am but Iā€™ve been cut cold turkey from most everything#I get off work and go. okay Iā€™ve done the dishes and the laundryā€¦ā€¦..I could read or write or bakeā€¦.#I try to write and sometimes i get a good hour#then I read for a few hours and then get tired of it#and I made cookies Tuesday so Iā€™m waiting for those to be gone before baking again#Iā€™m just so pitiful that I feel BORED and donā€™t know what to do#so I saidā€¦.. okay what if I do sims for an hour.#I downloaded some new cc Tuesday and tried to play yesterday#yā€™all ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦.. I canā€™t find the energy anymore to set up elaborate scenes and pose my sims and plan posts#I said wowā€¦ this is boring without my intervention and fake story#I said wowā€¦ā€¦.. all this for what? for tumblr? yes I created cool things and provided joy. but is that inherintly important compared to my#own joy? my own everyday activities I should be doing?#yā€™all I do not leave the house unless we got out to eat or shop or travel to our parents#.. I have little desire to. Iā€™m trying to find that desire#but my husband is busy with grad school and work and I donā€™t want to do anything by myself#Iā€™ve found myself in one heck of a slump#I didnā€™t want to be human for awhile. just had no desires no interests no ambitions#I was slacking off SO HARD at work. I just had no drive to do well#Iā€™m still working on it. Iā€™m still trying to get caught up. Iā€™m still trying to force myself to move every day.#but I am struggling yā€™all. and I can tell you that simsā€¦ sims isnā€™t helping rn but I want it to so bad. I want to get back into it#I didnā€™t mean to disappear on everyone. I got married and then life got busy and then I fell into this hole of nothing#I didnā€™t even WANT to crawl my way out. but my husband has helped a lot.
