a xianxia au idea

buncha ideas n explanations under the cut

okay so it all started with this post i saw recently about the concept of yin eyes. it was kinda hard to look into. even if i use the chinese name, most results refer to them as yin/yang eyes and talk about them from a more modern context i think? so i'm just using it more as loose inpiration and will be referring to them as yin eyes for ease.

In this au, they'd be something one is born with and grants someone the ability to see ghosts and deities and see the presence of magic. Because it's more common for ghosts to be seen near people than deities, the general population considers the eyes to be cursed. However, they're seen more neutrally as a tool to people who are familiar with cultivation bc of it's ability to see through magic or identify ghosts in hiding.

Izuna

born with yin eyes. they're not hereditary like the sharingan tho. I think the uchiha in this au would be a clan known for having many great generals, heroes, ascended immortals, etc in their history and madara and izuna are expected to follow in those footsteps. I think it'd be fun to play around with how important auspiciousness/divination can be in xianxia and maybe madara was believed to be blessed since birth but izuna gets more mixed reactions, esp with his eyes.

izuna escapes from that environment by leaving for his cultivation but really he just doesn't want to be there and has complicated feelings about ascending in the first place.

his base robes should probably be a little ostentatious and gilded. His traveling robes and hat are more homely but gold embroidery and accessories are still visible and basically anyone can still tell he's some young lord from a rich family lol

Tobirama

his design was hard. I just ended up changing his hair bc his canon hairstyle was too uncanny when i tried to imagine him in a xianxia setting....

he's the second prince from the east sea palace. So he's a dragon. I think the water association and the treasury mentioned in Journey to the West suit tobirama well while the east being associated with the wood element suits hashirama/the senju well.

he goes out into the world to learn more about the humans and dresses himelf as a taoist with simpler robes and horsetail whisk.

i thought this might be funny bc according to cursory research, taoists monks would use the whisk to shoo away evil thoughts or the temptation to return to secular life. Tobirama would do this to people who annoyed him.

This is also purely self-indulgent and bc i've been reading tgcf but i think he should be able to transform not just from dragon -> somewhat draconic state -> human but also between genders for disguises. There is very little difference tho.

i have some ideas for madara too and i think hikaku n mito would fit well into this au as diviners/astrologists or smth. will prob stew on it for a while ^^

With shadow generations i've been thinking about Silver a Lot.

This will be a Long rant about a comic/concept that i will NOT be able to work upon, i'm a full time College student and work as an illustrator via Freelance, alongside personal projects ill say i feel like i have too much at hand but enough talk, concept below cut

As you'll see, this was inpired by Mephiles return, i can Dream abou a new silver campaing and i think a good villain would be Silver himself (Kinda inspired by an video i've seen years ago, if i remember wich one i'll link it in the comments).

Like, erased Silver being one of the remnants of this forgotten world, going back to his future to find nothing, learning how to time travel himself so he could save the life he wanted to have, but he keeps failing because he (his 2006 self) don't exist anymore.

Erased/06 Silver is a different entity than current canon Silver, whom i imagine have an ok future that sometimes is in danger so he goes back, fix things and everything is fine and rainbows again.

Borrowing the concept of multiple realities out of prime and dimensions cause Rush, Erased Silver trying everything he could to save his reality, his world in shambles and everyone that could have survived, he tried the chaos emeralds, not his as his world don't exist anymore, searching through dimensions and alternative realities were, even if he gater them all, they do nothing, even the Master emerald once, it just kicked him back to the nothingness.

So he becomes not quite a villain but someone desperate by all means to just exist.

I just think its neat the team discovering some new threat cause the Canon Silver said his future is starting to colapse but he can't trace the moment in time that explains why, just to fight something like the Time Eater but learning that the one pulling the strings is someone that seems familiar but they can't figure out why (different design, maybe masks like infinite or shade ya know). And he keeps the theme Mephiles started...

In his mind he's still a hero trying to fix everything and bring everyone back.

The more fanfic-ish thing out of this already fanfic-ish concept is Canon Silver or Good Future Silver being raised by Shadow cause i love their dynamic and think its neat, not in the board of "oh he's actually his biological father" yadda yadda (if you are thats ok, im in this boat if we talk about vincent and sephiroth) but id like an adopted father/tutor role cause my boy Shad have seem much and he cares about his friends, so if he saw little silver just waddling around you can't convince me he wouldn't take care of the little thing (and i love the idea of silver's bracelets being some kind of inhibitor, im still making fanfic at heart).

The Gabbling Wuggthea

My response to this week’s BestiaryPosting challenge from @maniculum (thanks again for posting these challenges!)

Thought process under the cut…

I'll be honest, I like the sound of this bird (probably a lot more than the author, from the sounds of it!).

We don't get a lot of description of the appearance of this bird, but I imagine it would be fairly small (since it flocks together), and fairly plain (as a fan of birds, 'plain' is relative, but I imagine if there was much in the way of distinguishing features they would have been mentioned.

I knew I wanted to draw a flock of these birds, ideally being as loud and obnoxious as possible. Then I had the thought of them bothering a traveller (hence the excuse for some more medieval-style oak trees). Then I thought about Disney Princesses, and Sleeping Beauty (with her entirely not period-appropriate outfit - as an aside, I found a new interesting website to check out...), being surrounded not by demure and deferential chirping cardinals and bluejays, but by a flock of overly enthusiastic Wuggthea all eager to show off all the great sounds they've discovered (and you just know that if any of these birds did escape from captivity, they absolutely will have learned some swear words along the way... :p

Not deliberately trying to guess the identity of this bird, but I did take a lot of inpiration from one of my favourite common birds that loves to adopt weird and interesting sounds, from radios and birdcall to car alarms (spoiler warning for what I think it might be, but I may have also taken a little inspiration from this post... ;)

Capitalist Creepshow is a fast paced rhythm/horror RPG set in a small town in Idaho. The game itself is inpired by Spookware/Warioware, the "Of The Killer" series and NSR. The game would be styled 2d against 3d, with 2d characters in 3d environments, although the artstyle will change pretty frequently. How and When exactly I haven't decided on yet but it will. The sountrack is inspired by The Crystal Method, Underworld, Hideki Naganuma and Machine Girl. The game mostly consists of Warioware styled minigames, and bossfights that range from being rhythm based to more RPG like

The plot follows Cecil and Prim, a demon and angel sent by their parents in their respective worlds to live with their rich uncle, Seg. Seg gives Cecil a job at his company to keep his cover as an otherworldly being, helping him blend in with the humans who live nearby. The facade is ruined when Seg accidentally reveals his true nonhuman form to their neighbor, Jona, when Prim and Cecil are with him. In order to protect his familys identities, Cecil makes a deal with Jona. Jona must keep what he saw a secret, save for telling a few close friends, and help Cecil learn about humanity. In exchange Cecil and Prim agree to teach him more about their cultures. After Cecil grows attached to his human friends, he finds out that his father knows about them, and wants to erase their memories of everything they've seen. In order to stop him, Cecil must travel through the Underworld and Overworld to get to his father to keep him from erasing his friends' memories.

i was definitely already shipping them when i watched the movie haha, i think i briefly mentioned it somwhere before but my inpiration for writing it was a combination of the movie and also having read seokoilua's "deprived", several times actually, and things just started melting together in my head and i was travelling in december and spent a lot of time on the long distance bus and on planes just listening to music and staring out the window so it just kept growing and growing in my head and becoming its own thing and wait that wasnt the question. i shipped them first. and i loved their fandom assigned "hating but also loving each other" dynamic so when i watched the movie i was like "haha what if this was bokris 😂 ............what if this was bokris 👀"

It's a spur of the moment decision, to uproot his entire life as he knew it and move to a small, sleepy, seaside town. He's not even sure what prompted it, one day he was doing fine in his day job, thank you for asking maman, and the next he was opening the letter from his grandfather he kept laying around and the next he was on a train to a town he did not even know much about. He's been there maybe twice in his life when he was a little kid. Nonetheless, several days of travel later, he arrives in the small coastal city aptly named Pelican Town. Barely a town, more of a sleepy village. Charles is already falling in love, as it turns out.

OR: Charles moves to a small town to tend to his late grandfather's farm. Hijinks ensue.

Who inspired your OC?

This question can be answered two ways....

Ciella finds inspiration in her adoptive dad Aloe, he helps her learn her limits with her new situation as well as teaches her about anything her curious little brain can think of. She is also inspired by one of the first people she meets after Aloe. Cece may be nearing the end but she never gives up the fight and that determination helps push her forward. Finally Adelle who is brought in to help her change her appearance and mannerism to hide from her Father inspires her more creative and rebellious side.

but like i said.. .two ways... so if the question is what inpired the creation of my OC... it's essentially taking my edgelord baby Arianna and being like... Ok what if after getting away from her father instead of being found by her assassin uncle who gives her the life skills the only way he knows how... focusing on her ability to travel through shadows.... what if a kinder man, in this case a travelling healer, found her and helped give her life skills the only way he knows how focusing on her plant magic. I also like the idea that while Arianna can use plant magic and Ciella can travel through shadows if either were to try that it would probably go VERY badly.

I honestly had never thought of it but when i saw the question the first song that popped into mind was Naraku no hana, It's from the (second?) season of Higurashi and I remmeber the chorus-y bit translates to Escape, escape, from this sorrowful fate. She would probably be very kind, maybe a little worried if they noticed to seem to have any discomfort. She would also do her best to keep up a wall until she got to know you and even then she would be cautious.

Can your OC be your best friend? Why?

It takes a lot time for her to trust someone enough to be friends but she would always be kind to those around her if possible....

plus i've given her a better fate (in the AU....) so like she wouldn't hate me.... entierly we just... don't talk about how i plan to fir Ciella into my canon cause yeah... she would HATE me. Hell i'm a little shocked at how cruel i've made her story... like nothing too bad but being immortal does have some pretty massive drawbacks.

More Research

This poem was also an inpiration for me. I had found this book in a charity shop. I was going to tie it into my time travel theme as it's full of old irish poetry and verse. I stumbled upon this poem by accident.

I like this verse the most because it creates imagery that to me shows the vast and immortal nature of the sea.

Week 4

This week, unfortunately, I missed the first part of the fun: the field trip to the professional printers tour. Thankfully, I was able to attend Nikki Villagomez's talk hosted by AAF. I thoroughly enjoyed her presentation on culture and typography. One of the topics she discussed that stuck with me the most was one of AIGA's efforts to bring together other state chapters. The initiative, "Exchanging Design and Culture," involved two state chapters exchanging or mailing each other a box filled with local goodies and trinkets that represented their state. It was very interesting to see the correlation between the design of the objects and the surrounding cultures they originated from. I was also reminded about what a manhole was and how everyday objects so dull and mundane could be transformed into a creative project. I am bummed and regret not buying her book.

The reading for this week covered probably one of my favorite terms, "brain dumping," or "How to Get Ideas." This chapter was very helpful because every so often, I find myself in a creative desert where I have no inspiration or drive to create anything. It is the most frustrating thing, especially as someone with a very high-functioning creative brain. The segment I took away form the most was "How to Get Everything from Everywhere." I keep a sketchbook, a bag of clippings and things from my travels, not to mention my exploding camera roll full of random screenshots and pictures of inpiration. All of that is to say that it isn't as organized as I would like it to be. This chapter certainly helped me get a sense of the different types/forms of ideation and how to effectively utilize the process.

cecil is the main protag of the game, he lived in the underworld w/ his mom annie before she sent him to live with his uncle seg in the surface world. externally hes very serious n can be stern sometimes but hes a good guy overall ^_^ he has a younger sister who he'll protect with his LIFE they love each other lots. in fact sometimes he can get a little Too protective lol. he befriends jona and his friends bc seg accidentally shows his true nonhuman form to him while cecil and prim are with him so cecil makes a deal w jona in order to protect their identities (jona is an aspiring paranormal journalist) and thats how the game starts out LOL

jona is cecils first and closest friend in the surface world. hes a human but knows that cecil is Not due to seg accidentally revealing their nonhuman forms in front of him. hes an aspiring paranormal journalist and investigator, so hes Suuuuper interested in learning about cecil and prims respective cultures. he also gets permission from cecil and prim to let his close friends see them as they truly are. he ends up being super close with cecil and even asks him out near the end of the game, whether or not cecil accepts is up to the player tbh

gulliver is one of jonas friends. hes very country and lives in the middle of nowhere. him living so far from the city means cecil and his friends spend a lot of time there. he unknowingly saves his friends from an escaped underworld beast of some sort by hitting it with his truck. hes the second of jonas friends to be introduced in game

seg is a rich conman who jointly owns a banking company in the city. before the start of the game hed never met his niece and nephew, but after meeting them he cares for them deeply. he gives cecil a job to protect his identity but accidentally allows jona to see their nonhuman forms like i said earlier. he lives in the middle of the small town jona and his friends live in, in an abandoned church he made into a mansion. later in the game its revealed that he lives in the surface world because he preferred it to the underworld, and he prefers living with humans instead of preying on their weaknesses

misty goodman, she/her, cis + lesbian, 25, white, ALSO jonas friend

yet another friend of jonas. shes a blogger who lives in the city, and is the last to find out about cecil. she can be pretty rude and blunt about most things, but she also has a rare kinder side. despite her personality she loves her friends and would do Anything for them, even is she doesnt say so. she helps jona with his amateur journalism by using her talent for photography to provide him with pictures to use in his articles. basically his partner in crime

radon, he/him, trans + het, 33, white, weird guy + resident fucked up scientist | cutscene theme + battle theme

radon is somewhat of an urban legend around the town. hes a chemist who studies radioactive materials in his free time (which he has a lot of) in his lab under his house. he tends to experiment on himself a lot, since he ran out of """test subjects""". he rarely leaves the lab, usually injecting himself with chemicals snd documenting the results. cecil winds up in his lab by accident, and witnesses radon inject himself one too many times, which causes him to turn into a gross monster that cecil kills in self defense

haven davis, he/they, cishet, 52, hispanic, cecil and prims father + main "villain" | battle theme + cutscene theme

haven is basically god, and rules over the overworld with an iron fist. he can be pretty emotionless and serious, but is still a good dad overall. he is the final boss of the game, his need to protect his family results in him trying to erase jona and friends' memories of everything they weren't supposed to see. this leads up to him being the final boss of the game, cecil stops him by defeating him in a heated battle. hes not a terrible person per se but he definitely does some fucked up shit to humans he considers a threat to the secrecy of both the overworld and the underworld

annie janson, she/her, cishet, 49, white, cecil and prims mother | cutscene theme

annie is cecil and prim's mom and shes like. literally the devil and is considered head of the underworld lol. shes divorced (her ex husband haven lives in the overworld with prim, meanwhile cecil lives in the underworld with annie) i dont have much character wise but i like to think shes a bit of a hothead but still a decent mom to her kids
