most of the time i don’t even think it’s worth engaging with this stuff because it’s stupid and continues to illustrate a lack of understanding about. stories and fiction and such. but like. the new Thing from people who don’t like eddie or buddie or whatever is being like “eddie stans care about a sexuality arc more than anything else! it’s always about eddie’s sexuality! there are other things to explore!” and the thing is that yeah, i’m sure there are people who are only interested in him being gay (which is fine?) and yeah, obviously there are other things. but like. the thing that people forget in a myriad of ways is that eddie is not buck. for a character like eddie, defined by lifelong expectations and repression and a very specific struggle with the idea of Family, the symbolism of his sexuality holds a lot more weight than the just the fact of his attraction to men (in his STORY, not in-universe!). this is not to say that buck can’t or doesn’t have complex feelings about his bisexuality, but insofar as his actual character arc, his coming out doesn’t actually touch much on a lot of the things he’s been reckoning with as a character: what his purpose is, his parental trauma and abandonment issues, his struggle to actually recognize his wants, his pathological need to please. but for eddie, coming out could and would involve a lot of that specific character growth: reckoning with the expectations everyone has always had for him, being able to self-discover, accepting and putting his wants and needs first for once rather than repressing them, rethinking what a family might look like and his place in it, maybe understanding some of his own mistakes, and continuing to be the best version of himself for his son. like yes he will also be into men and into buck specifically but this is all eddie’s specific baggage; his sexuality is a representation of his Whole Self, rather than the repressed self that caused him and the people around him pain. that’s why it’s so important to eddie understanders to see it 🫶🏽

Egalmoth Headcanons | General Characterisation

Request: Heyheyhey! Thank you for all your hard work, you are godsend! ☺️🫶🏻 Do you have any general headcanons about Egalmoth you want too share with us? I am quite curious about how other perceive him ☺️ Have a nice morning/day/afternoon/night!! - Anon

A/N: I wrote quite a lot for him and may have gone overboard, Like seriously overboard. . .hehe. I hope you don't mind because there was so much to say :) And thank you for your kind compliments, much appreciated 💞.

Warning: I don't believe there's really any, but talks of his trauma and him drinking alcohol.

| Appearance |

Height – 7’6 (231.6 cm)

Hair Colour – Silver, straight, tailbone length

Eye Colour – Sea–green

Noticeable Features – scars that run across his chest. In his later years, during Gondolin, they appear as faint pink lines on his chest. Whenever he has to spar, he would use elven magic to hide them since he spars shirtless. In private, when it is simply himself or you, he would show them.

| Style/Attire |

As someone who prides himself on his appearance, he falls nothing short of his attire and dress wear. From head to toe, Egalmoth is pristine and well-decked out in the finest pieces of jewellery, material and designs.

Wearing his signature colours, his headwear will bear a rainbow-coloured gemstone or stones that depict his house proudly. His attire would bore the traditional dark and bold colours that the Noldor usually garment themselves in.

Adorned in more blues (leaning towards teal) and silver, his attire will also incorporate white to balance out the abundance of kaleidoscopic colours should he decide to wear more than one.

As much as his house colour symbolises a rainbow, he doesn’t dress in all the colours as some of the other Lords are also assimilated into them. Thus, he sticks to wearing his sigil or circlet which bores his house colours.

He is always wearing jewellery, even if the moment calls for a casual. Either his circlet, a bracelet, necklace, rings or something new. Egalmoth adores his jewellery and makes frequent stops to his fellow Lords Rôg and Maeglin to commission an abundance.

When it comes to his hair, he gives the other Lords an excellent run for their money when it comes to its beauty. While Lord Glorfindel is famously known for his beautiful luscious golden locks, Egalmoth silvery hair has also been claimed to bear similarities to the moon and its silvery glow.

Always styled in a manner that allows for most of his hair to be down and flowing. So, it’s always in a half-up do or unbraided and filled with hairpins and clips. He loves to have his hair look stylish.

| Personality |

Many people describe him as proud as a peacock, he is but not as prideful as they depict. He has his standards, and he is a Lord who lives a lavish life; thus, he has his expectations of how he deserves to be treated.

He is a cocky person, getting boastful about his accomplishments and feats or his title as a Lord, but they are never done to belittle another person. They are born out of playfulness as he’s incredibly good-humoured and entertaining.

A social butterfly he is considered, and it is true. You can find Egalmoth at any and almost all festivals and celebrations once he can attend.

Being an ostentatious person, his entrance or presence must be known to many (a serious extrovert and people person), and this is done through his sense of fashion or attempting to become drunk and make a complete fool out of himself.

Speaking of being intoxicated, Egalmoth does love his alcohol and never missed the opportunity to clear the drinks table at a banquet with his drinking buddy, Ecthelion. He is a terrible and embarrassing drunk, performing all sorts of fiascos.

Keeping in touch with his playfulness, he never missed the chance to be a jokester and put a smile on people's faces. It brings him a sense of accomplishment to make his people or the citizens comfortable while in hiding.

He has shame and no shame at the same time, meaning that he knows when to be embarrassed and when to not be. A respectful person who does not tolerate disrespect at all.

Highly charismatic and charming when he wishes to swoon over the lucky lady/lord who has caught his attention and will go out of his to charm them endlessly. He dreams of having someone who he can love unconditionally and have the love returned.

When it bubbles down to his anger, due to his prideful ways, he isn't going to make a scene and snap irrationally. Egalmoth would sit and think about his approach as well as his words. There isn't a need for the situation to escalate.

He does have a temper and he is hot-headed, so expect an explosive moment at a random time. Because of his harshness, when Egalmoth is hurt, he can say some nasty things that have been on his chest for a long time.

Prideful and stubborn, do not expect an apology immediately. His head is hot and he needs to blow off steam before his mind registers his words.

| Traumas |

He has witnessed enough traumatic events in his life, the first kinslaying crossing the Helcaraxё, Dagor–nuin–Guiliath, Dagor Aglarleb to fall of Gondolin and then the third kinslaying.

Egalmoth knows pain like many others and puts it behind a smile and a cheery persona, not wanting anyone to witness his horrors because he is tainted. Witnessing all his soldiers, friends of old and new, comrades and maybe family, die before him and not being able to do much or anything changes him slowly.

He doesn’t like to talk about his traumatic experiences whether you ask about them. The most he’ll do is make a few jokes about heroic moments but never around the most painful memories.

Egalmoth, like a few, rather drown himself in alcohol to forget the painful memories of his fallen comrades and the horrors of war. It’s how he became an excellent drinker and built his tolerance.

There are times when days are dreadful, and he hides from the world. He would stay locked up in his chambers drinking bottle after bottle and singing songs that he and others used to in their happy times.

Being a prideful person, he doesn’t enjoy opening up about his traumas, even if it’s to assist him. He rather keeps them bottled up and never touch them. Unfortunately, he isn’t spared from the nightmares.

Visiting the healers for herbs to keep them at bay or staying up all night as the years progress.

A reason for his pridefulness being exquisitely high is when he failed to protect Aredhel, he felt his ability to protect as a warrior broke apart. So, he puts on an even greater masquerade to hide his failure.

| Relationship (Romantic & Platonic) |

He is a laid-back person when it comes to courting because he has confidence unlike any other person and does not believe that you would ever reject him.

He doesn’t hover or cling and isn’t overprotective like some of the other Lords. Egalmoth understands you require interaction with other and you already have your eyes on him so there isn’t a need to worry about jealousy.

You can ask him to pursue anything he would support you without much opposition. The most he would do is seek your safety should the request contain dangerous stunts.

Will always go out of his way when to surprise you with dates, gifts and affection. Being a physically affectionate person, he is always touching you in some way— handholding, kissing, hugging, cuddling, brushing shoulders against one another or wearing fewer clothes for skin-on-skin contact.

Being a proud person, one of his greatest accomplishments was having you in his life, so expect Egalmoth to shower you with praises. He has no problem lifting you up to show you off to the world.

When it comes to friendship type of love, Egalmoth truly adores his fellow Lords and would not miss the chance to spend quality time with them. Whether it be drinking the night away, attending a festival or ball, or dinner, he would not miss it.

They are his source of comfort and confidants as they have experienced the world of trauma and pain he has. Conversations would be a lot more open and relatable between them.

He adores receiving and giving gifts to show his love, mostly in the form of jewellery or perhaps a new weapon or a few bottles of wine.

You can count on him to defend you and his friends like his life depended on it. If you ever need someone to fight for you or with you whether verbal or physical (more verbal), Egalmoth will lend a hand.

The idea of witnessing or learning about his loved ones being harmed does not sit well with him at all.

His closest friends would be the usual three, Glorfindel, Ecthelion and Rôg, he has a soft spot for Maeglin and enjoys being around Penlod for poetry. Duilin would be his companion whenever he decided to engage in a sporty round of archery for the fun of it.

| Extras |

He’s an only child born to a lesser family in Valinor, however, during his youthful years he managed to become great friends with Turgon and company. Turgon found their friendship to be honourable and trustworthy, and he presented him with his position when they settled in Vinyamar.

Has a soft spot for small things— that includes mortals. He finds their size difference charming and endearing. Giving tiny pats to their head, once he’s allowed to, and marvelling at where they reach him.

A famed love for peacocks and they are the animals that represent his house as well. Most of his hairpins and brooches are peacock designed.

His love for making Turgon’s life a living hell during meetings is impeccable since there was never anything important to discuss during the years of peace. He takes the opportunity, once provided to tease his King.

After surviving the Fall of Gondolin, what little banners he could gather from his fallen friends houses, he requested that all the pieces be stitched together and sewn on his cloak.

On the anniversary of Gondolin’s death, he’ll spend the day alone or with Galdor quietly reminiscing on the good ole days; sharing small jokes and memorable encounters or sitting in complete silence.

i'm glad ryan's getting to do some lighter stuff this season bc he's been wanting it and i'm thinking s8 he'll get heavier stuff again (hopefully reckoning with his childhood and catholic guilt and sexuality) and i really truly could not care less about the ppl who don't like his storyline rn bc i've been talking abt eddie having trauma from his catholic upbringing for YEARS so this is a massive win for me personally (as a fellow repressed queer latine raised catholic in texas). and marisol well. she's there. but the writers aren't investing any time in making us care about her so i'm not worried abt her sticking around and if all she serves as is a plot device for eddie to confront his religious trauma then i'll deal with having to see them together bc SOMETHING had to be the catalyst u know

tommy's a cool guy and he's sweet and buck likes him so i'm happy he's here while buck finds his sea legs but im not terribly attached and i still believe he's leading directly to canon buddie

and there's a lot of negativity at hypothetical scenarios that could hypothetically happen in the future too it's like. can y'all just unclench and have fun 😭 personally i find it more enjoyable to hope and possibly be let down than expecting terrible things constantly

One of the most important things to me about this movie is how they paint curt and brian’s relationship. We see their entire relationship from an outside perspective. The most we get is clips of more private moments (such as their vacation). While we can get an idea from certain details, we will ultimately never truly know how their relationship was (and maybe that's why they make me indescribably sad).

With that context in mind, I can talk about the scene itself. In this performance you can see just how upset curt is. It's ultimately a message to brian, and my god they picked the song so well with lyrics like “there's nothing in my dreams/just some ugly memories/kiss me like the ocean breeze” it reflects their relationship so well ughh.

A detail I noticed is that near the end of the song, while curt is physically grieving, the crowd still cheers and dances. And it's not like I expect them not to dance to music but it almost adds to how private this moment is meant to be—the crowd is seemingly unaware. They take this as a performance and entertainment, the true message is only understood by those it was meant for, giving you this sense of intrusion.

There's something about seeing how distraught curt is that reveals just a bit more about the two of them. It could be easy to dismiss their relationship as shallow or something purely sexual but the details we’re given makes that a bit harder. When you see them hugging on the vacation clip (and brian giving him the pin), curts genuine shock and disgust as the cameras start flashing after they kissed, curt still going to tommy stone’s show, or at the very least buying a ticket (which is such a devastating detail), brian and his emo montage after curt leaves, brian coming to watch curt perform one last time, and other things i'm too tired to name

Some other details I loved was how on the roof with arthur, if you look closely at curt’s chest you can see the marks where curt scratched himself when singing. As well as after the show when mandy goes to hug curt (which is the cutest thing btw trauma buddies 😋) mandy lies when curt asks if she saw brian. I always wondered why, but simply assumed she was attempting to spare his feelings somehow (though i'm not 100% with that one)

I didnt see that there was an update until now and i dont feel like discording and i just read the new chapter so here i am with my few main points bc i dont feel like doing a full live reaction👍👍🫶

Seeing Jeeto come into play in any capacity at all makes me feel like a proud parent watching their children grow. Its always wonderful like those are my emotional support middle aged fictional men. I watched them go from conspiracy to getting crumbs to now their "dates" and gossiping together. Youve gotta love it. Those are my children. Im so proud of them. But im also scared because you killed shen so obviously my feeligns mean nothing to you 🙄😒😒. (Im never going to get over that, im going to be 80 years old in some pst apocolypic enviroment with horrors all around me, but im going to be having nightmares about shen. Ill send you my therapy bill) (im going to get a tattoo in his memory istg)

Also its always really subtle but its funny to see your specific linguistical patterns in liab esp because i can never really explain it. Like ill read a random sentence and be like 'yeah that seems like sreeder wrote it' i just think its neat.

I also really loved zukka this chapter. But i always lovr zukka so its not a surprise. But espesially this chapter because its mostly soft zukka.

The 'moving forward' ness of zukka in liab is so nicely written. Like ive been reading liab since (almost) the beginning and it has been a ride and its starting to feel more conclusive and that is SCARY but its also nice because you write it very well and i adore the way you write trauma and the healing of it and the ups and downs and the two steps forward two steps backness. Its very lovely.

I knew ara was going to have a suicide attempt (esque situation (idk if that counts)) i called it i win.

Idc what others say ara will always be amazing. I love her character SO MUCH

i feel like you can always tell the strengths of a writer in the way they write complicated characters and the way you write ara is very telling of that. Like the fragility and also harshness used for her is very realistic and i always enjoy her parts so much.

Like her deciding to move on independant of how zuko or sokka feel about it is and regardless of whether people thinks she 'deserves it' is immaculate.

And thats a good example on your specific strengths as the author of liab (being able to handle delicate situations well, and realistically and make them very thought out and not rushed, stuff like that).

But her 'i need to start getting along with other girls' is great because like,, RHATS SO TRUE. she is genuienlly one of my favorite characters of all time, i could write essays on why i love her. Exquisite.

This episode in my eyes just killed whatever 5% of me that still wasn’t fully sure that Marisol would be written off and now I’m 100% that bitch edy is on her way out so small victories

This episode was neither here nor there on the buddie front but it did have the domestic scene obviously and also the potential for Eddie dealing with why he wants a mother for Chris so bad could be a great way to get buddie even if they’re going about it in a very odd and kinda🙃 way

As for it being character death or Eddie being a cheater it may just be because like I wanna go into psychology so I do tend to look at things from all perspectives and like empathise with more things that make others be like..no- but the way I see it grief makes people do fucked up shit, it doesn’t make it okay but it makes it understandable and worth noting, and he hasn’t slept with her yet (and I doubt he will) so right now it’s sorta a grey area between cheating and emotional cheating, like for me I would defend him so hard if people try to bash him for this (unless they do go a complete shit route but again Tim loves these characters sm I doubt he would ever do that) because he’s dealt with so much trauma and shit over the years that it’s understandable to be flawed and do shitty things occasionally and now he runs into this woman who’s the mirror image of his dead wife? No one can say how they’d react in that situation

Again I’m not saying I like this storyline or that cheating is okay if you’re traumatised but what I’m saying is that it’s pretty far from character death like hen cheated on Karen with her ex because they had history and it was complicated and she was in a weird place and people found a way to forgive her and look past that and buck kissed Lucy due to his underlying issues and we got past that and I think that if any circumstance makes emotional cheating understandable it’s seeing someone who’s the split image of your dead wife

Tim minear I still trust you but I am side eyeing you - like if you were driving a car rn and I was in the passenger seat, I wouldn’t hop out and call an Uber but my hand would be inching toward the Jesus handle because you’re scaring me sometimes
