companion - for the ranger gathering 2024!

something about halt & crowley's friendship has profoundly ingrained itself in me in a way i'm not sure i could describe. like they were always meant to know one another in every universe, regardless of the manner of their relationship; it's a certain kind of inexplicable gravity they revolve within, or maybe just the potential of what never was — anemoia. ever since its release, tournament at gorlan has remained sort of my comfort flanagan work i suppose.

while i've technically been in the fandom for five years at this point and have a library of brotherband fanart, i have somehow not made RA fanart… so although i would have liked to spend more time on this like i'd pictured, i realized that i had not even started approximately three hours ago and cranked it out. one day i'll come back and make a better RA fanart that's more representative of how i feel about it, but until then, here's the one piece that i resolved to finish for this year's gathering.

I'm having trans Faramir Feels(tm) again, and I'm just imagining Denethor assigning Faramir as Captain of the Rangers of Ithilien with the intention of setting him up to fail and teach his """daughter""" to mind his proper place. Faramir's acceptance within the ranks is tenuous as is and is mostly bolstered by Boromir's unwavering support of his brother. A command position among the rangers is bound to be a failure.

Except...it isn't.

Faramir was never the bright, loud, speeches on the ramparts soldier Boromir was, but it turns out he is a cunning strategist. He's sharp and observant and the guerilla fighting tactics of the rangers highlights those skills. And it also allows for his leadership skills to flourish. His leadership is quieter than Boromir's but no less steadfast, and the loyalty it commands is no less true.

And the rangers, rather than rejecting Faramir, fully embrace him. There's less of the social pressure of Denethor in the wilds of Ithilien. What matters is being quick and quiet and cunning. What matters is survival. Faramir quickly proves himself as an effective leader and the men under his command respond to him as such, to the point of becoming protective of him in the face of others. Because how dare you disrespect their captain??? Captain Faramir is an excellent leader who cares about his men and if he says he's a man, then he's a man dammit! Transgenderism be damned, that boy knows how to command a guerilla warfare unit!

Denethor's all smug the first time Faramir comes back from his posting until he realizes that instead of failing, Faramir's thriving and coming into his own as a respected commander. Denethor is pissed his plan backfired. Boromir, on the other hand, is absolutely delighted

What if when Will goes to Hibernia in book 8 he goes to the basement and finds a diary of one of the O’Carrick siblings. What then.

(Probably nothing because he respects their privacy but you know…)

Or maybe Pauline finds it when she travels to Hibernia earlier on. (Same thing, privacy issue).

The expression cards in his hand clatter to the ground as your fist collides with his body. Without them, even his doe eyes appear dead and cold, as if marbles were fixed into his skull instead of eyeballs. His lack of expression underneath only adds to your growing dread, but despite how blank he looks, you can still tell he's angry.

How the fuck did regulations occur to where Ford Rangers can't be little trail trucks anymore, but these are ok? I have a '93 steel body truck myself, but I live in the woods. I sorted limbs I'd loaded it up with for garden bed poles and fire wood today and we're hauling a shed tomorrow. My truck is BIG but it's still smaller than current F250's. I used drive a '10 Titan that was about the same size as current Frontiers which are supposed to be the little sport Nissan truck. Hubby's Ranger's a '98 and perfect off trail size.

Sorry I'm just an old truck apologist, but I am fresh with the knowledge that even though they do still make Rangers, they have to be huge for some relatively recent regulations which is garbagio. We were at the auto parts place fixing a lightbulb next to an 00's Tacoma the same size as our Ranger just marvelling at how convenient and useful small trucks are compared to how huge they all have to be now. I love that we can take a little truck like that into the bush and don't need to waste money on a stupid ass side by side or 4 wheeler.

Here's my tronk full of limbs and my hesquatch husband's truck when he surprised me how far he dooted it way off the trail with unparalleled 4WD dexterity. We're only "Ford people" now by surprise coincidence, we were aiming for "old forest truck people" for a hot minute to get to this point.

Fuck the cybertruck. And the rest of the overly complicated, planned obsolescence ridden, right to repair denying, unreasonably enormous eyesore trucks out there.

now i’m not saying it’s going to be funny when a cybertruck massacres everyone inside of it because the autopilot hit a concrete barrier going 40 mph, but when the car made out of thick sheet metal with no crumple zones transfers the entire force and energy of the impact into the now liquidated bodies of its driver like a mortal kombat x-ray move, i might laugh
