Wei Yīng said something dirty and LWJ was going to retort when he was sucked underwater. He thought he was gonna die but soon got caught under like this wheel thingy where he was pulled up and his shoulder dislocated. He had wounds and was only saved thx to WWX using demonic cultivation. But i remember it took place during wei yings time in gusu in the cloud recess arc. i could be wrong on some details but from my memory it has the lans finding out about some negative aspect of wei yings life in yunmeng and the abusive treatment he dealt with. he is then welcome in cloud recesss bc they see how smart and kind he is. i remember specifically there was an oc that was a lan elder who was very un-lan like. he was very loud very much what u would expect from a character that’s similar to wei ying. he became wei yings shifu so to speak. they would invent things together. they were both known for blowing up things a lot. the lan healers mentioned once how the jiang healers definitely knew about the abuse wei ying was subjected to. and that they would be bringing up them not living up to their duties as healers at a conference or something. and that not helping wei ying in the abusive situation was a major taboo amongst all the healers and there would be repercussions for that. i think they mention that wei ying is often in the back of cloud recess where all the elders lives. like he’s just always around that general area. it’s kind of jiang bashing and then also positive/protective lans. that’s all i can remember so sorry if that’s vague i just really enjoyed reading it and can’t find it for the life of me. thanks for any help u can give me!! and as always thanks so much for all ur hard work 💕💕💕

Hi! I'm number 9 on the latest fic finder. That fic rec is not the one I was looking for, but that fic is really good, and I'm thankful for whoever who assumed it was that particular one. As I mentioned in my ask is that Wei Wuxian breaks something that belongs to Lan Wangji and the latter is really sad and says something rude to Wei Wuxian I think on the lines of him being as bad as everyone had said and it kind of takes away the spirit entirely from Wei Wuxian and the light in his eyes dim. 11. I am back once again asking for your excellent help in finding a fic. It's an AU, where a previous emperor ordered Lan Zhan & Wei Ying to marry. Lan Zhan is an imperial official (in the tax department i think). There is a war with the Wen going on and Wei Ying is ordered off to fight. Everyone thinks WY is either dead or MIA, but when the war is won, LZ goes to oversees a prisoner exchange and finds WY who has been on a work gang in a mine all this time (with A-Yuan who he's adopted & Mo Xuanyu). I remember MianMian is the brilliant general on the winning side. You find out that LZ & WY basically fell in love right before WY got shipped off to war, so it's a happy reunion. Oh! Also, LZ writes very popular poetry under a pseudonym! Um...i remember that LZ bought WY a goat they called Amethyst because before he was disappeared WY wrote LZ expressing the wish for such a goat (LZ buys the whole herd in the end). Jiang Yanli and the Peacock are married and are the new empress and emperor. There's an epilogue or end note where the author gives info about how their life turned out - this is all in the 500s CE. 13. Hello! I've been pulling my hair out trying to find a wangxian fic. Unfortunately, I can't remember too much about it, but I believe it's a modern/university setting. The only scene I can remember is WWX going with LWJ to visit his uncle and brother. They live rather far and on a hill. LWJ doesn't visit often, and this visit is very tense between WWX and LQR. Something about past WWX doing to LWJ, or causing LWJ to get into trouble when they were younger. Anyway, LWJ then gets angry with his uncle about the treatment directed towards WWX. I also can't remember if baby a-yuan is in this fic and present during the visit, as sometimes fics blend together. I apologize if this isn't enough to go by, but I just randomly recalled this fic, and apparently, I did not bookmark it.

I feel like Ming Fan would have a glow up post canon and after becoming Qing JIng peak lord, it would just be like he's the new SY!SQQ.

I also feel like, through a comedy of errors, he gets nie Huaisang as a disciple.

It would also be hilarious if the events of MDZS happen in line with this timeline. I feel like it could be canon divergent for MDZS where Ming Fan meets the Venerated Triad and somehow hits it off with all of them : JGY bc Ming Fan definitely has cunning similar to the guy and would go good for him seeing him kill JGS but still stop him from atrocities as best he can (being the eldest daughter of Qing Jing does That).

In terms of Lan Xichen, they get along bc tired matchmaking masters of the four arts.

For NMJ, I just like to think that Ming Fan finds abt NMJ's attitude at NHS and goes like

What I'm hearing is that a modern person transmigrates into Ming Fan (hence Ming Fan's sudden an unexpected "glow-up"), said transmigrated person decides to travel a bit and stumble upon a young Nie Huaisang and goes, "fuck, I'm in the same universe as MDZS?!" and decides to meddle.

This transmigrated person isn't familiar with SVSSS. BUT they are very Familiar With Modern Chaos Fun inspired by anime. Just imagine MDZS trying to do the Naruto run because look! This immortal cultivator does it! It might hold the secrets to the universe!

(And then there's Shen Yuan and Shang Qinghua in the background who are both too busy getting railed to notice that Ming Fan got replaced, sorry Ming Fan.)

MDZS Transmigration!AU

Okay, hear me out, what if Lan Wangji was a transmigrator? Like, OG!Lan Wangji would be this cold, rude a**hole who teamed up with the rest of the clans to drive Wei Ying to suicide in the original story. All the shenanigans upto Guanyin Temple happen, and LWJ is killed by NMJ's spirit along with JGY in the end, all orchestrated by NHS.

Sweet, shy, quiet Lan Zhan stumbles upon this webnovel, and instantly hates Lan Wangji (who has a large fan base for some reason) for what he did to his favourite character, Wei Ying. He is miraculously transported into the story as Lan Wangji, and immediately takes it upon himself to fix everything. Soon enough, he falls for Wei Ying.

Xichen obviously notices that it's not his brother, so they talk about it, and Lan Zhan tells him all about what happens. So, Jin Guangshan is prevented and Xichen keeps a close eye on Meng Yao. The Jiang family survives — no one dies, including Jin Zixuan. Lan Zhan befriends Huaisang early on, to not get on his bad side, and gets him married to Jiang Cheng.

The drama with the Wens still happen, though. Jiang Cheng still loses his core, and Wei Ying gives his own core to him and takes up demonic cultivation. (The core-giving was not explicitly mentioned in the original webnovel, so there was nothing Lan Zhan could do, since he didn't know about it.) But, it was easier to get rid of them this once, and the Lan sect agreed to house the Dafan Wens after the war.

Wei Ying still becomes the Yiling Patriarch, and many people hate him, but it's better that what actually happened in the webnovel. He doesn't die, falls in love with Lan Zhan very late (cue the infinite pining) and marries him later on.

Wei Ying probably starts his own sect, and Lan Zhan leaves Gusu to live there. A happy ending, ha!

(But imagine what would happen if he was suddenly catapulted back into his real world one day? He'd be shattered and heartbroken for days until he meets Wei Ying again there. The romance part 2 probably starts there, with Wei Ying pretending to not have crossed over from that world to see him.)

actually you know what would be funnier. time travel au except it’s just memories instead of full transmigration and nhs inexplicably decides he’s actually jgy’s best friend and is going to save him from becoming miserable and a criminal and step one to this plan is killing jgs when he comes to talk to nmj about something (read: try and take advantage of his inexperience as a sect leader). maximal humour if nhs is like. fourteen or so and stabs him in the neck with a knife with no prior warning because he got all these memories like, five minutes ago and he had to do SOMETHING.

Favourite fics of 2023

Now that the year is over, I figured I'd cast my eye back over the previous year to see what were my favourite fics I discovered that year. Notably, they may not have been published last year--just the ones that I read during that time period.

I have absolutely no idea what they will be, so I'm curious to dive into my bookmarks...

MDZS/CQL

Stunted, Starving Juvenility by TomatenMark -- oooh, apparently it was last year that I consumed this. It's a behemoth of a story at over 700k words; it's a slowly sprawling tale, and I read and reread it during the same year. And it's been one of the rare WIPs that I have been following faithfully. It's an AU in which WWX and LWJ, early on during the Gusu lectures, have the extra-canonical chapters' dreams about each other (that's to say, the ravishing in the library and the peaceful domesticity) and this triggers them realizing their feelings, which in turn changes rather a lot of things. This sounds underwhelming, but the fic really is very good and rather epic in scope! I have appreciated how it depicts WWX--intensely intelligent, precocious, but in need of guidance; and he and LWJ are darling together. I only hope it keeps being this good for the next 700k words or however much it takes!

You'll See Me Again by anon -- oh man, I loved this one. It's sadly a short-ish WIP (12k> words), but the concept is brilliant: it's NHS, who's time-travelled back and is determined to fix everything by getting WWX as his younger brother, and it's told from NMJ's baffled point of view. It's very good! I just wish it were longer.

Mourning Dove by jaemyun - a WIP featuring a dark LWJ who's very fed up with the hypocrisy of the cultivation world. Hasn't updated in a while, though...

Born of Fire (We Shall Not Fall) by TheDefenestrator - I loved this fic so much. So much. It's my favourite take on omegaverse I've ever seen in any fic, ever. It's got a super lovely Ye Xiu/Han Wenqing slowburn and Ye Xiu joining Tyranny, but it's also set in this universe which brings this omegaverse context into everything and makes it extra delicious. It's so well done. I just hope it updates one day.

Pio in your NHS cumplane lovechild au, how are NHS and NMJ related? Are they still brothers? Are they somehow besties without being related? I'm kind of obsessed with a NHS who grew up around moshangbingqiu, but I need to know why and how he decides to go to bat for NMJ later on

AUGH I know I typed up a really long response to this exact question but for the life of me I cannot find it anywhere. Anyway from this I think there are 3 possible options to take that are all more harrowing than the last:

1. Nie Mingjue is also a Cang Qiong disciple (probably Bai Zhan let's be real) and semi-adopted Nie Huaisang as his little brother, they descend together and things play out pretty much as usual

2. Nie Huaisang does some sort of transmigrating to replace an original Nie Huaisang but becomes genuinely attached to Nie Mingjue as his older brother in this life, things play out pretty much as usual

3. Nie Huaisang transmigrates and sees Nie Mingjue and everyone else as a fictional plaything a la cumplane, knows his role is as a cannon fodder character who will inevitably die to cause tragedy, may or may not actually become attached despite knowing he ultimately will die (possibly without an attempt to change canon to save his life)

I believe someone in the notes before proposed the idea of Nie Mingjue being Mobei Jun and Luo Binghe's baby, which would be really funny tbh but I admittedly am a cumplaner before all so I don't think I could really spitball ideas for that

so i had a thought

a fan of mdzs transmigrates to the novel but a few hears before the lessons at cloud recesses and theyre dead on saving everyone so they start by settling down at an abandoned village and start building a home. a few years pass by and its time for wwx to free the wen so they reach out to the group and assure a place to live.

not living at the burial mounds, wwx doesnt have to exhausted himself to protect the wen simce the village is very much protected by the fan.

so like after wwx brings back wen ning, the fan tells wwx that they know about the golden core thing and that they believe its possible to cultivate a new one.

they also convince wwx to bring lwj to help him meditate and cultivate the new core.

after a while jgy’s is revealed somehow and then wwx and wq help nmj with his sabre problem. thanks to that the wen are welcome back and wwx is able to reunite with his siblings (theyve been communicating via letters that cannot be traced back to the village).

True - I see your point that NMJ and JGY probably wouldn't adopt a kid for a heir as they have Huaisang, but consider - Huaisang somehow deciding to find a random kid to be a niece/nephew so he doesn't have to be an heir. (Obviously, he fails, but still! It was a good idea - in Huaisang's eyes.) The idea I had of the kid being a transmigrator still stands bc I feel like the chaos resulting from that would be hilarious.

Ha! Imagine Nie Huaisang concocting new plan after plan, trying to get his older brother trapped with a new heir!

But it can't be a child that will replace Nie Huaisang's place in Nie Mingjue's heart, of course of course. This can't just be any child, obviously. Nie Huaisang has a list of CRITERIA this child must fill! Namely that the child should still adore and spoil Nie Huaisang just as Nie Mingjue does!

Yet Another Untamed Time Travel Fixit That I'm Not Going To Write

pairings: wangxian, xuanli, and mingcheng

Transmigration time-travel (old mind/young body) that brings back not only the usual suspects (WWX, LWJ, JC, NHS,) but several characters from the parent generation as well - Because I want Papa Nie to live.

So, maybe about a week before Papa Nie meets with Wen Ruohan, Papa Nie, JFM, YZN, Madame Jin, and LQR wake with knowledge of what is to come. They each react differently, of course. Papa Nie, seeing the trap, does not die. JFM and YZN join forces to defend the pier (though they still disagree on how, they each set out to shore up what they believe needs to be shored up), Madame Jin begins to slowly amass a power base to ultimately overthrow her husband, and LQR begins to quietly shore up the Cloud Recesses's fireproofing spells and copy and store the Lan Library elsewhere, just in case. Each of them are acting as if they are the only ones returned.

But off course they aren't. Because also returned at that time are: The Yungmeng Trio, the Twin Jades, Jin Zixuan and Mianmian, and the Nie Brothers. They are also under the impression that they are alone - at least, that their particular set is alone (the yungmeng trio's reunion is *epic* and it's a *very good thing* that both of their parents were out on their various missions.) Each set reacts differently.

The Yungmeng Trio decide that they will do what they can to prepare, but also, to enjoy their time together, whatever their parents say. They then end up avoiding their parents, and it takes a while for them to begin to suspect that they remember, as the difference in their behavior could be a result of...

The Nies. Papa Nie's survival means NMJ is expected to act as heir, not sect leader, and it allows for him and NHS to reconnect and plan - he's surprisingly sneaky when he doesn't have the sword spirit breathing down his neck. They come clean after Papa Nie calls them on their behavior.

The Lans also don't last very long before telling LQR - they help, obviously, but it was the easiest way for LWJ to explain why he needed to go to Lotus Pier, *yesterday*

Jin Zixuan doesn't suspect his mother. Mianmian knew immediately. She hasn't told JZN because honestly - even he can't be that unobservant. Right?

Perhaps the GusuLan lectures happen first, and the Sunshot Generation gets to meet up there (NMJ included, as he's escorting NHS this time. Meng Yao never turned up, so NHS suspects that he's also back). Wangxian are reunited, Xuanli's engagement is never broken (and Yanli is determined to get her son back asap), and when JC goes to visit with NHS, he ends up spending more time with NMJ, who he's already had a teenaged crush on. He's no less distracting without the weight of responsibility and grief. Theirs is a new romance, and a bit whirlwind.

They begin to plan as well, having done this battle once.

Meanwhile, there is a conference held, and the parent generation gather to discuss events. The time travelers find each other and begin to plan.

Anyway, this entire setup is to get us to the next scene: At the first war meeting, the parents are debating course of action (of course, only LQR knows how it actually played out, and he's understandably hesitant to rely on Meng Yao (who is still missing) and Wei Wuxian's Ghost Path. They are arguing in circles, not getting anywhere, and the sunshot generation looses their temper (bets on if it's JC or NMJ) and it all comes out, who they are, what they remember, etc.

**an alternate moment is based around the younger group's pairings. Xuanli are constantly chaperoned, and everyone is paying attention to them and not to Wangxian, who are fucking *constantly* in a rush of teenaged hormones and a desire to rewrite their more painful history. They're also not paying attention to Mingcheng, until they decide to spar. Their sparring gains the attention of a crowd, as they are sparring at Sunshot level proficency. (I was thinking of a wonderful moment where YZN, JFM, and Papa Nie are talking, and a disciple rushes by - they stop him and ask what's going on. He says NMJ and JC (either) have been sparring for *hours* and there's still no clear winner (or) will be sparring publicly. The three rush to the training ground to see them absolutely destroy the place with the ferocity of their spar, and it ends with JC gaining the upper edge by a hair - NMJ is understandbly dickstracted by how JC fights. To claim his victory (as he has done before) JC kisses him - and that's when hell breaks loose, because he hadn't yet noticed the crowd.

From there, it always spirals out in a bunch of different ways, which is why I'm not writing it - but feel free to use all or any of this, if you want!

In term of fanfics: currently reading The Woes of Transmigrating Into a Minor Villain by Catmik. Its an ocxcanon fanfic where someone transmigratrd into a minor villain, Wang Lingjiao. Found it by accident and I thought it wasn't going to be that interesting so I read it to pass time and. I devoured it. Damn?? At first it was slow, Lingjiao doesn't really have much personality but then she showed more and more development, both good and bad, and was struggling in MDZS world and fuck??? Its so good??? The way she was terrified but still wanted to fo everything she could to make it better is so satisfying to read. The system sucks but its compelling. The way she and Jiang Cheng developed toxic codependency relationship and the way it crumbles in the face of having genuine relationship? YESSS and then they got divorced? YESSSSSSSSS (<- crying on the inside btw) I've never so been so excited seeing a divorce. I usually hated it when cp cant hold it together but here i understand and can see that their relationship CANNOT work. Kudos to author for plotting skill!! Granted there are parts that I don't like (treatment of yu ziyuan) but I haven't finished yet so i cannot say more. Also personally i like that Nie Huaisang And Wang Lingjiao are platonic soulmate!!! There's not enough friendshipping oc&canon and its a treat to see it here. Its such a treat. Also kudos to author for translating their own work!! As a translator i appreciate u. Also i swear ive read this before???? Bc i have such a vivid memory of reading nmj not letting wlj leave qinghe nie unless jc courted her in full custom honour and all the jazz??? could be my shit memory tho anyway

In terms of novel:

There's one i keep waiting just in case bc the premise is so good i can tell the ending and why they worked together. MC never fell for ML for his beauty, he fell for him bc of his strong character and perseverance, and his only wish is to be the strong pillar for him to reach even higher. You know im very weak for devotion. Im so weak to devotion ...

Also there's a het novel im reading (suprise) where FL has birthed the ML's son but she doesn't want ML to know bc shes just a commoner and ML is a person with high status. Shes very humble and knows that coveting for things higher than her status can only bring trouble, and she only wanted to live in peace, despite being in love with ML. So im curious to see how they can get together. The reviews said its good so im waiting. Aldo the ML has scar on his neck so im very down for that guegegege
