I actually quite liked early Reylo when it was often presented as an addictive or abusive relationship with a sort of triangle dynamic, but the other side is PoeFinnRey.

Just to steelman my own post and add a thing because I don't actually know what the original series is about. Here's my rule of thumb:

Are there boys or girls that seem like they could or might kiss, but instead kiss their opposite gender counterpart? That could, theoretically, be called comphet.

Great example of this? She-Ra had four bi characters that ended in het relationships.

Weird that in a series where the base assumption was "everyone is gay" the main crew ended up in three m/f relationships and two f/f relationships. The only m/m relationships we get are Bow's dads and Ronnie/Rogelio/Kyle. Now, do I think that ND Stephenson, transmasc nb, did this intentionally? No. I think this is how he thought it worked out best. Did he unintentionally reinforce some standards? I think the argument could be made.

Is the story about a boy and a girl who end up in a relationship together? This is probably not comphet in a way that's worth talking about, though there's a lot of nuance.

Pick any series. Vin and Elend from Mistborn, Han and Leia from Star Wars, any romcom.

In this case, it's less of an enforcement and more of a reflection. That most romcoms are straight is comphet, but criticizing them individually for this is not useful, since they exist in a larger system that also pushed them to be about straight relationships.

On the other hand, if a game is about a huge cast of characters, and the male main character has multiple potential love interests, and they're all girls..... you see where I'm going with this. Double if those girls never end up together or with other girls. Triple if there's chemistry, but the story dictates that a given person ends up with the male lead....

Sexuality Headcanon: bi/pansexual disaster boy.

Gender Headcanon: binary male, usually cis, but would not be wholly uninterested in exploring other things, especially transmasc.

A ship I have with said character: han ying is my favourite ship with him, but i also like a-xiang, zhou zishu, wen kexing, wenzhou together, liu qianqiao, and i have one fun concept shipping him with hong lu and yun zai. (oh and a cross-canon ship with wen qing because [chef kiss]).

A BROTP I have with said character: mm, if it counts, i think he would be ecstatic to be a shishu to chengling and he would try to be a good influence sometimes but mostly i think they would get into all kinds of shenanigans and hijinks as two babie Youngests with unparalleled didi energy.

A NOTP I have with said character: trying to think if i have any of these with jiuxiao...and i can't come up with anything XD i don't care for ji se gui in general though so him i guess.

A random headcanon: qin jiuxiao didn't tell his shixiong about the girl because he was waiting for the right time to use that information as leverage. it was all part of his plan to get his dying sect back to siji shanzhuang.

General Opinion over said character: i love him he is my baby boy. but also i don't think he's half as baby as he is often thought of and portrayed (even and especially by zishu's memories themselves). i think he still has a lot of gumption and fortitude and stubbornness and strength of will and spirit to him, and if he pales in comparison to zishu in cleverness or ying'er in presence, well, who wouldn't? it was more than sheer sentiment that gave him his position in tianchuang under his shixiong and kept him alive so long and made him the last person keeping zishu away from the edge. i also think he makes a really interesting avenue to explore ways that the whole tianchuang thing left trauma and scars for which zhou zishu and even han ying are less suitable.

Controversial opinion but I don’t actually think Nico’s that small/short like even canonically.
