[Click for better quality]
[Also warning for long post]
Sooooo I started to hyperfixiate greatly on Transformers I ended up remembering this old RP story I did with a now ex friend
Looking back at it, it was shit
So now I'm kinda reviving and redoing it, alongside redesigning some of the OCs that were associated with the story
This here's Noitaidar(they/them), God of the Sun's energy and nuclear power, and the Ruler of the Nuclear Realm.
This is Aftermath(he/they), a cybertronian raised by Noitaidar after being revived by them. Since he's unable to transform, he's been equipped with various arsenal.
Raelcun(she/her), Devil of the Nuclear Realm, representing the malice and greed of energy production. Don't trust her.
And Lefcium(she/he/they), Noitaidar's right-hand man, helps managing mortal affairs whenever Noitaidar's too busy with their godly duties.
There's a lot more characters here, and I do plan on making designs for some of the canon characters too, dunno when I'd make them buuut if I do, I'll post em.
So like the premise of this story is that like
This takes place in its own continuity(kind of a mishmash of other tf continuities), and Noitaidar has waged war on Cybertron with the goal of destroying the planet because of the war between Autobots and Decepticons ravaging other planets, forcing the two to make a truce in order to combat this new threat.
Imma call this story "Transformers: Divine Meltdown"
May sound cringe but I was like what 14 when I made this story? And trust me the original was wayyyy worse-
#okegom#funamusea#tranaformers#ocs#noitaidar#aftermath#raelcun#lefcium#transformers divine meltdown#me art lol#yep as you can see form the tags this is this weird crossover between okegom and transformers#specifically with the suns curse#cuz theres a bit of lore connecting all of this to siralos whiiiich i may mention when i get to designing rimp#tw eyestrain

Submitted Prompt: “Divo Divine”
One thing edited, explanation at the end as a friendly PSA.
AU where Adrien’s plot armor runs out, Gabriel notices that his son has emotions, and takes advantage of that to akumatize him.
More specifically, he notices during one of those times where Adrien is throwing a hissy fit and whining to Plagg about how he can’t force Ladybug into a relationship with him.
-
Plagg “pulls a Tikki” and tries telling him to calm down, reminding him that it’s dangerous to get so upset – but that just makes Adrien angrier, as he vents about how Plagg just doesn’t get it–! It’s so UNFAIR that he’s expected to be mindful of others; how dare he ask that of him…!
His childish tantrum attracts Gabriel’s attention, and a butterfly is sent his way, transforming him into Divo Divine, a gold-clad figure whose abilities center around making everyone pay attention to him and do whatever he wants.
Thankfully, Plagg manages to escape with the Ring. But this doesn’t do much to protect Adrien’s secret identity, as Divo Divine is extremely upfront about his desire to make Ladybug his.
And he’s also blithely open about how little he cares about the damage he’s doing to Paris, even joking about how the Miraculous Cure will fix it… only to laugh about how that won’t be happening this time. Not if he can help it.
The amount of awful puns and jokes he makes at everyone else’s expense naturally remind Marinette of her so-called ‘partner’, who’s naturally a no-show this time… and his entitled attitude and childish tantrum-throwing reminds her of Chloe. But how does she react when she discovers who the Akumatized victim is that she’s dealing with – and HAS been dealing with all this time…?
—
The part that was edited was that the word “meltdown” was changed to “tantrum”.
A meltdown is specifically a term used for autistic people who are dealing with (or rather, are currently incapable of dealing with) sensory or emotional overload.
“Meltdown” shouldn’t be used as a synonym for temper tantrum, because they aren’t the same thing.
A meltdown is pretty much a mental breakdown and not something you can control and not something anyone would ever choose to subject themselves to, while a temper tantrum is, in this case, a spoiled rich misogynist throwing a fit that the world doesn’t actually revolve around him, and other people have autonomy over themselves that he can’t erase.

I'd like to introduce the Gene Keys to you...
The Gene Keys Approach
A path of gentle transformation
The Gene Keys Approach invites us to develop our humility through embodying the four qualities that lie at the heart of the Gene Keys. Please consider these values as you navigate the Gene Keys Teachings.
Contemplation – taking full responsibility for one’s inner state, using everyday challenges for growth and transformation.
Inquiry – asking the profound introspective questions, inviting wisdom to come from within. Cultivating a state of calm presence in all situations.
Gentleness – nurturing a kind and gracious approach towards self and others. Encouraging a spirit of unwinding and un-learning, versus striving and fixing.
Patience – cultivating compassion, honesty and curiosity with an inherent trust in the underlying process.
About - Gene Keys - A short introductory video. The visceral and all body knowing response I had to first discovering and learning about Gene Keys through my course has been soooo fucking painful, BUT...so healing and ENLIGHTENING at the same time!! There is a lot to learn here and I really want to share the journey through my own sequence as I learn more about it. The gene keys are essentially a blueprint of what wounds we were born into the world to clear for humanity. If you have heard about Human Design, this is a branch off it. It is a branch that speaks more deeply to me though. I find Human Design very structured, masculine and rigid, Gene Keys allows an opening and deeper exploration of self to occur. The idea would be for me to offer the exploration of gene keys through my Art Therapy offerings in the future. It has the ability and potential to reveal so much about oneself. And what I am really loving is that it's something external to me who will be delivering the potent lessons, we would simply have an opportunity to explore it further and think about how it is showing up in your life. My life's work gene key is Number 55. It is the shadow of victimisation, and it is the only gene key that does not have a gift, just a movement into the siddhi (divine gift/expression) of FREEDOM. What I have learned about this key for me is that is has a direct link to my brand and how I show up in the world. Other's being attracted to me because of this key. Because I have been working on this wound and it is showing up INTENSELY and I've had waves of meltdowns wash through me. The contemplation here has been in how I have been creating my own suffering in my home life, my work life, my relationships and financially. There is an expression of vicitimisation in all these areas, however, I would never had called it this for me it is how I am creating my own suffering and powerlessness. Things are happening 'to me', and all the external blame is causing me to collapse and feel defeated by life. I see the divine gift in rising about this though...I see where I need to work, actions I need to take... The next steps are to purchase the activation sequence and really deep dive into growing from this space. If you're curious visit the website and start exploring your own profiles.

The 2 in 1 Eagle Pair
Trigger: Computer systems across Sorafune are infected by viruses, courtesy of Powered Dada. Like wow, that's a deep cut. Haruki and Kengo talk more as Akito uses the rescued Medals to create Z Hyper Keys of his other forms. With the virus cutting off computer systems at other TPU branches, GUTS-Select goes on high alert. An attempt to use old equipment allows them to pick up automated HQ broadcasts authorising autonomous operations. The Nursedessei has it's systems compromised. It's all hands on deck switching to manual, but Dada is managing to auto fire the Nurse Cannon and Nanase has to run a counter virus program, even Ignis is helping, as Kengo and Haruki manage to disconnect the Nurse Cannon's power right before a second shot fires. Dada instead takes control of King Joe to target Nursedessei, forcing Trigger Multi-type and Z Alpha Edge to fight it, after it uses all its forms they switch to using Power-type and Beta Smash. As Nanase gets control of the system back Dada avatars start appearing to attack the crew, when one attacks Akito, Yuzare takes over and destroys it, but then Yuna collapses. Dada appears to fight with King Joe, and Multi-type and Gamma Future hold it off until it tries fusing with King Joe, getting destroyed last second by Nurse Cannon. They switch to Sky-type and Delta Rise Claw, destroying King Joe but Haruki promising they'll repair him. Later Kengo thanks Haruki for his help, again stating how he's come to recognise Akito's help even if the man himself denies it. Akito gives permission to keep the Sparklencs, and so with Beliarok opening a dimensional tunnel, Z places King Joe's parts in a Travel Sphere and flies off, Akito agrees to grab ramen with Kengo. Akito returns to the lab to find Yuna, who can just remember Yuzare's action this time, and begs Akito to explain.
Galaxy Rescue Force: Sora is surprised by the appearance of Justice, bringing a message from Delacion to Queen Izana, who is unfortunately back on Kanon at the moment. Justice opts to wait, leaving Sora feeling awkward until Ribut arrives, impressed to hear Justice is associated with the Universal Justice. When Ribut thanks Justice for their help with Leugocyte Justice explains that Delacions wants to cooperate with the Land of Light and Galaxy Rescue Force in opposing Tartarus. They continue waiting, Ribut also feeling awkward, eventually running away to patrol, Justice eventually deciding to return the next day.
Revice: Wakabayashi demotes Kadota after both failing to defend the ViStamp lab and his failure with the Revice system, and requests Daiji persuade Ikki to fight for them. A caddie, Ibata, is fired by his boss, Araki, who has become irritated after his recent performance, Olteca appears to offer Ibata a ViStamp. Ibata summons tge Kamakiri Deadman. Ikkirefuses the contract, but when news of the Deadman attack appears still takes the belt, accidentally discovering Vice can possess his bike if it's stamped. They arrive and fight, until Vice tries to go eating again, Daiji passes Ikki the Eagle ViStamp, which turns them into the W themed Eagle Genome. Revi starts attacking Vice, who accidentally triggers their combined Eagle form to finish the Deadman, Vice then targets Araki until the transformation is cancelled. Ikki's family encourage him to help Fenix. Araki approaches the Deadmans, and the next day, when Ibara approaches to apologise, summons the Megalodon Deadman. When Vice mentions he told Araki unleashing your Akuma feels good Ikki transforms again to fight him until Daiji arrives to inform him of the Deadman, at which point he gives up the gear. Ikki and Daiji arrive at the golf course, where Fenix are already battling Giff Junior's, Ikki rushing in. He refuses tonuse the belt, since Vice will attack people again, but keeps fighting, until Vice swears to not attack humans anymore, making a contract to do as Ikki says, and Ikki now transforms again. Vice becomes envious of Ikki's Sealing Buster and borrows Daiji's Gunderphone. Ibata grabs Araki when he tries to power up his Deadman, wanting to put things right, and they combine into Rex form to finish the Deadman. Araki and Ibata make up,
Zenkaiger: No one has had any luck finding Mitsuko. Gaon offhandedly suggests she's escaped to some other world, and when Zox comes wanting an explanation for what happened in the last fight, Kaito asks for his help. Ijirude has no idea how Mitsuko escaped, Stacey confirming he'd put her in storage, and the Parallel World Gate was disrupted as she escaped thanks to Kudakk attack, so they don't know where she went, Stacey isn't sure this should have taken him away from the battle. Kaito, Zyuran and Magine join tge World Purates in travelling, with 20 or so worlds they can try, while Magine tries to divine where she is, Flint takes them to Kashiwa Mochitopia, where they meet the local version of Su-san, not having Kashiwa Mochi on your head there is comparable to public indecency. They try Retrotopia, where Su-san can't comprehend the Kikainoids. Kouritopia's Su-san has far less trouble with them, but hasn't seen Mitsuko, but Kaito is happy to see the freed worlds are at peace. Stacey and the Kudakks arrive, revealing Kudaiters gave been sent to other worlds for Mitsuko, as Gaon and Vroon, looking on earth, find. Kaito wants to split up to protect worlds, but Zox says they have to prioritise Mitsuko since the Tojitendo will just rampage until they find her. Su-san on Kinokotopia tries to have them stop attacking the mushrooms, as the Zenkaigers fight Flint declares she found Mitsuko, and Ijirude calls all forces there. When there the team shows they have Mitsuko, and fight. As things progress Stacey captures Mitsuko, but Kaito gets her back. Super Zenkaiser and Super Twokaiser destroy tge enemy forces, then they escape on CrocoDaiOh, Stacey essentially let's them go for Yatsude's sake, but is ordered by Ijirude to summon Black ZyuraGaon, which drags them back to Kouritopia, Zenkaijuoh facing the mecha and defeating it. They return home, and only now have Magine remove her disguise as Magine, since the Tojirendo won't go through other worlds if they think Mitsuko is home, just continue focusing on earth.
Yodonna 2: We start right where we left off, Mizuki distraught over the detective's betrayal, which Yodonna is able to understand due to her own betrayal by Yodon. The realisation that she has experienced sadness causes Yodonna to freeze. In Yodon hell, Hörn and Mose are in a meltdown over Yodonna's escape, Mose impulsively sends himself to earth after her. Yanako visits the Kuchinawa leader, whose eating whil watching his men give Shousuke a beating, Yanako wants to kill Mizuki. Mizuki retrieves the phone while bemoaning Yodonna's current state, but resolves not to burden Juru with her problems. She also finds herself feeling sluggish, unknown to her being due to the soul transfer. Mizuki arrives at the warehouse, where Enoshima is waiting with gang members, claiming his becoming corrupt was only natural. The regular lead goon grabs the phone, while Mizuki talks about how much Shousuke believed in him. The phone wiped, Enoshima reveals Shousuke isn't there, and they can't have her going around with what she knows. Yodonna takes control right as the fight begins, she's now experiencing anger on Mizuki's behalf. She starts fighting the goons, the boss watching via camera surprised by her skill and saying as much to Yanako. When shooting starts she uses a guy as a shield, and uses his gun to kill the goons. After admonishing Mizuki to exercise properly, she beats down the lead goon again. Enoshima puts a gun to her head, she steals it and shoots him in the knee. Mizuki changes back, happy thanks to Yodonna's help, she's really struggling to stay standing now, and Yodonna realises why. Mose approaches her, kills Enoshima for interrupting, then isn't sure what to do with Yodonna given the soul transfer. He intends to cut the hose, but then Yodonna will, disappear and there'll still be trouble for him with Hörn, better to let her steal Mizuki's life and then take her back. The revelation of what Yodonna was doing leads Mizuki to hate her too. At this point Yanako arrives and knocks Mizuki out. Mizuki wakes in the Kuchinawa offices, where Mose is waiting alongside Yanako and the leader, Kujirasaki. Mose has told them everything, and they seem content to wait out her death and let him have Yodonna after. Kujirasaki finds the whole situation amusing, and has Shousuke brought out so he can watch his sister die. As the process nears completion, Yodonna becomes visible and Mizuki starts fading. Yodonna explains the emotions she has learnt from Mizuki, and that she's realised she's just done to Mizuki what Yodon did to her. And so she pulls the tube out and destroys it. She's going to use the physical form she has until she fades to save Mizuki and Shousuke. She beats Yanako quickly. Goons drag Shousuke away, Mose in a panic uses Yodonna's whip to power up Kujirasaki. And then just goes back to Yodon Hell. Yodonna fights Kujirasaki, telling Mizuki to get Shousuke. As Yodonna and Kujirasaki are fairly evenly matched, Mizuki manages to disrupt the goons enough to free Shousuke. As Kujirasaki prepares an energy blast, Yodonna, knowing she's dead either way, swears to keep Misaki alive, and turns her whip into a scythe to block the blast. A final struggle fells Kujirasaki, and Shousuke declares him under arrest. Yodonna is glad to have won in time and collapses. Seeing Mizuki is alive she finds she's crying, Mizuki explaining she's feeling joy, right before Yodonna starts vanishing. Mizuki forgives her, and Yodonna fades gladly. Juru and Tametomo are still waiting for Mizuki, who finally gets back after Juru reminds Tame of his brief crush on Yodonna. Yodonna awakens back in Yodon hell, Hörn telling her that is she'd let him finish he was going to explain that if she could understand the 4 basic emotions he'd let her revive. He's already punishing Mose for running off after her. After reminiscing she asks if she can revive, but after her running off he's not going to allow it anymore. Unless she learns one more emotion, Love. She wonders who might teach her that...Tametomo perhaps?

Divinity: Mastered
Well, yes and no, but as of Tuesday, I officially completed all classes and assignments for my Masters of Divinity! I’m waiting on final grades and on Friday will officially be a seminary grad!
After 3.5 years it feels crazy to finally be here, graduating seminary with my Masters of Divinity. As this chapter in my life closes I reflect back on all the things I did in seminary, and suddenly, I feel like my perpetual exhaustion has all been validated:
I took 26 classes in 5 semesters across 3 campuses. I lived in Philadelphia, took some classes in Gettysburg, and for the last year joined the Distance Learning crew online and on Zoom. I took classes in theology, history, faith formation, administration, worship, and so much more. Some of my favorite were definitely: The Lord’s Supper and the Church as Communion, Jesus and Cultural Perspectives, Theology and Praxis of Disaster Spiritual Care, and the travel seminar to Israel, Palestine, and Jordan.
I completed field education with Upper Dublin Lutheran Church. I was at church every Sunday, preached a few times each semester, attended or taught confirmation, adult forum, and some Sunday School classes, and did countless other programs with the church. While also taking classes.
I completed Clinical Pastoral Education - I spent 10 weeks working at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in center city Philadelphia. I met with patients and families in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, the Emergency Department, and much more. I listened to stories, sat with people while they died, and learned a lot about the incredible health care workers who work so hard. I held the record for number of traumas in one night and the record number of total deaths in a CPE unit. It was hard but so holy.
I spent a year on internship working full time at First Lutheran Church in Waltham, MA. The first six months were filed with preaching, teaching, leading Bible Study, visiting members, planning worship, and more. The last six months were figuring out how to do church at the beginning of the COVID-19 global pandemic. I learned first hands the realistic demands of ministry and fell absolutely in love with pastoral ministry.
I worked at the Lutheran Archives Center at Philadelphia helping to preserve Lutheran history. I spent countless hours inventorying objects, artifacts, documents, and photographs from conventions, gatherings, and congregations dating back to the 1700′s in some cases. It taught me a lot about how much the church changed in just the last few hundred years.
Pre-pandemic we had social gatherings and outings. Thursday Church Key (drinking/ social time), evening Compline worship, Wednesday chapel and community lunch, Thursday breakfast and dinner church, Sunday family dinner, Monday outings at McMens, snowball fights, football practice, and so much more. It’s this social time that I’ve missed the most in the last year with the pandemic. But we still found ways to get together outside for meals and games, worship together on Zoom, and have hallway distanced gatherings.
Above: gathered for Compline, Below: Luther Bowl 2019
I made friends from near and far. Some from the same synod, others from new synods and states, and some from across the country and world. I also reconnected with friends from ELCA Youth Gatherings and from Young Adults in Global Mission. They have all taught me something unique and interesting about church, faith, and this crazy journey we are on.
Above: YAGM friends in seminary at ULS and LTSS - Justin: Mexico, Luke: Argentina/Uruguay, Rebekah: Hungary, Catherine: UK, Me: South Africa, Below: one of the many pre-pandemic family dinners
I wanna take a minute to shoutout my best friends from seminary. Zach Dean, (now) Rev. Stephen Boyhont, and Justin Marx. These dudes supported me during meltdowns, shared food, friendship, and laughter, and were always down for an adventure to Trolly Car, Earth Bread, or Ritas. Seminary would not have been the same without them. Also a huge shoutout to Sarah Marx and Ana Crivelli (soon to be Dean) for keeping all of us sane - we wouldn’t be where we are without your love and support.
Stephen is now off doing the pastor thing in Milwaukee, WI! Prayers and blessings to Zach and Justin as their next steps continue to unfold. Enjoy this transformation photo from 2019 (pre-internship and pandemic) to our goodbye gathering for Stephen in April 2021.
There won’t be an in-person graduation ceremony, which is okay. It would have been nice to see all my friends one last time, but safety is of the utmost importance. We will all be together again someday, maybe a reunion? Maybe some ordinations in the future? Maybe future weddings (looking at you Zach and Ana)! We may be all over the country, but we will always be connected.
So what’s next for me? This is a journey filled with prayer and discernment, completing my master’s degree was just the beginning. That being said, I’m currently in conversation with the New Jersey Synod of the ELCA in the hopes of finding a congregation where I will serve my first-call as pastor! Stay tuned to see how the future unfolds!

Aw man, I’m feeling sentimental for a fully unrelated reason so I wanted to take this moment to say that I really love Friends at the Table and it has been a comfort to me during some dull and sad parts of my life, and also remained there for me after I shed a lot of that dullness and sadness. I still find great charm in the show even as Austin and the players’ storytelling interests have, with time, diverged from mine, and for every choice that distances me there are more to woo me back... I used to feel FATT’s best moments were the ones that came like bolts from the blue: strange, gorgeous, fully-formed scenes and transformed ideas. But there are also themes, especially in Twilight Mirage and late-season Hieron, that struggle hard to get underway, gaining momentum creakingly after a hundred hours of nothing... I like that style of surprise too; it’s nice when against all odds a story earns your patience. “Stockholm Surprise.”
...I mean, I still think Spring in Hieron is pretty bad. But I liked the epilogue, and it made me less regretful about having listened to the rest of the season. Mainly I liked the climax and the Understanding, and I especially liked, and wish they had kept, the original name of the Six, which seemed to best capture the most important and most underwritten of Hieron’s throughlines---that the horror of divinity is the horror of unilateral action, and that there’s no categorical difference between mortals acting secretly and destructively to serve “the public good” and gods doing the same. So the Six from the Last University mirror the Six from Marielda and the original pantheon of gods, complete with numbering chicanery. “Utilitarianism is wrong because it’s a fundamentally paternalistic, tyrannical dream that inflexibly robs individuals of their right to self-determination and discovery; it is so corrosively wrong that you are not excused in using utilitarian methods to fight a greater or more catastrophic fiat,” is a surprisingly rare message to find in genre fiction, which tends more toward “Utilitarianism is wrong... oh shit, look at all those people who died, though. Kind of makes you think.” That’s not to say that the above view of utilitarianism is co-signed by yours truly, but it was nevertheless refreshing to find it so clearly articulated and pressed on by the story, even to the point of the absurd “and so...?” stalemate to which Hieron devolves. And so, nothing.
It made me think about how sad I am about Samol, as a character, and as prime wellspring of the trauma and abusive love that characterized his whole family; I find his narrative shadow really compelling in retrospect, but his decision to save Samot’s life without Samot’s consent---kind of the ultimate reconfiguration and evocative even of Samol’s own birth from the nothing---should have been explicitly linked to Samot’s meltdown and actions in the finale. Also to Adelaide’s thinking around Adularia. Because Samol’s death is a refusal to change that he offers as the nearest thing to changing: he sees the harm he’s caused, regrets it, but even the gift of freedom for his children has to be given against their will. As a human narrative, it’s incredibly dark, and as a godly one it touches me in its unapologetic apartness. His ability to care and empathize with people never allows him to act as a person, with a person’s responsibility to others; alone of the gods, he really seems to have no choice but to do as he sees fit, beyond reproach or challenge, because no one can challenge him and to pretend otherwise would be a new way of imposing his will. Nor can he remove himself from the world he is. Which is like the truest parent conundrum, haha. ... ... But ... he nonetheless is written, played, and felt as a person, just a person beyond others’ reach. Which I know I’ve mentioned before as my favorite early Hieron theme and, well, here it is again, in the last place I expected, even if the season really buries it. So. I’m sad. End of post.

Music For Diviners - Forest Swords ‘Stonemilker’ Remix
youtube
It feels weird to write a post about Björk and only focus on one song. While not a lot of her music is what I’d consider “useful” for divination purposes, she is definitely a leading artist in terms of translating intimate spiritual ideas and revelatory experiences into song, both lyrically and in her musicianship.
See also: her visionary soundtrack for Drawing Restraint 9, which she co-starred in with ex-husband Matthew Barney.
See also: Vulnicura, her album dedicated to the loss of said ex-husband (he isn’t dead, he just may as well be), in which she attempted to musically capture the all-too-relatable experience of the wide-open heart suffering an unthinkable blow.
“Stonemilker” is the first track on that latter album, depicting the last glow of love, the personal moments of bargaining and deliberating with oneself during the times when a flawed relationship still seems salvageable. All isn’t lost, as long as the lovers can “synchronize our feelings” and settle on a “mutual coordinate.” But weighing her options in whispered tones, the singer discovers an essential imbalance between them, and senses their fate will rest on the power of her love, not his:
Who is open chested And who has coagulated Who can share And who has shut down the chances
That’s a bargain all of us accept, from time to time. But from this point onward, each additional song pushes her further and further into the unthinkable. The fourth track, “Black Lake,” distills the tragedy of heartbreak into ten luxurious minutes of perfect anguish.
And that’s not even the lowest point, if you can believe it This mood grips the album until the final three songs, which find our devastated heroine (and she definitely paints herself as one, presenting the experience of heartbreak as part of a hero’s journey for all those who dare to open up all the way) to be atomized by grief, her thoughts scattered, her mood numb and contemplative, the healing instincts kicking in but finding precious little of herself left to work with.
Artwork for the album finds her prostrate, ripped open, fossilized in the muck of her own despair, the heart itself still glowing like a nuclear reactor post-meltdown. Mouth, heart, and sex symbolically agape, she’s transformed into her own gravestone: a monument to all who have lost themselves in love.
But in the final song, “Quicksand,” she finds herself standing at a new spiritual threshold, the kind we tend to avoid at all costs:
When I'm broken, I am whole / And when I'm whole, I'm broken
This revelation will serve as a launchpad for Björk’s new life, the one she saw as only a remote possibility back in “Stonemilker,” which she has only embraced as a last resort. She addresses this directly in "The Gate,” the first single from her followup album, Utopia (which also marks the return of “Black Lake” collaborator Arca).
youtube
My healed chest wound Transformed into a gate Where I receive love from Where I give love from
And I care for you, care for you I care for you, care for you Care for you, care for you I care for you, care for you
Split into many parts Splattered light beams into prisms That will reunite
If you care for me, care for me If you care for me, care for me Care for me, care for me And then I'll care for you, care for you
But note the order of operations here: she will offer her love in response to being loved. If you care for her, then she will care for you. She’s open, practically glowing with an abundance of love, but never again will she attempt to wring milk from a stone, lest she become stone herself.
If you can’t tell, I’m a big fan. So chasing down obscure remixes of various songs is recurring pastime, and I also love going on fishing expeditions just to see what kind of weird fan-made bullshit is floating around out there.
That’s how I found Forest Swords’ 45-minute remix of “Stonemilker,” embedded up top. The words “45-minute remix” alone were crazy enough to draw me in, regardless of what song it was. “This can’t possibly be good!” I thought, “...But if it is, then it’s my new favorite thing.”
Reader, I’m sure you can guess what happened next. Or maybe you’ve already pressed Play on the video and are hearing it for yourself.
This “remix” is basically a compilation of sounds and tones from the song, omitting Björk’s lyrics altogether, sampling her vowel sounds and ululations. weaving an atmospheric tapestry that can be wrapped around the listener like a protective cloak. I’ve performed many of the readings on this site with this playing in the background, and I’m always caught off-guard when it actually ends — so effective is the spell it casts.
I’m not familiar with Forest Swords, but anyone who would create a track like this is probably worth exploring in depth. You are my people, Forest Swords!
I’ve endeavored not to think too hard about the symbolic qualities imparted by this song/album into the remixed version. At the oozing heart of “Stonemilker” is this rallying cry contained in the chorus:
We have emotional needs, oh needs, oh needs, oh... I wish to synchronize our feelings, our feelings Oh, show some emotional respect, oh respect, oh...
Addressed though it may be to one specific individual (like so much of our music is) there is a transcendent quality to this expression of it. It’s a statement of intent — the kind you find in spellwork. It’s also a polite delineation of boundaries — not entirely unlike a banishing ritual.
It also serves as a sort of warning to the listener. Sometimes, simply by drawing and maintaining important boundaries, you end up losing that which you imagined you could never survive losing. And then something weird happens... you survive. And while you may never be able to paint a happy face on the experience, eventually you understand how important it was to protect your heart with those boundaries in the first place. Your heart functioned exactly as it was made to... which means you can go ahead and forgive yourself, even if forgiving the other person is not an option.
Vulnicura came out in the fall of 2014, in the weeks after I’d ended my relationship of 11 years. Looking back, it is an honor to be able to say that, after listening to it just once, I reached out to my ex to make sure he listened to it too. I knew his heart was just as broken as mine, and that it would be soothed (somewhat) by finding itself expressed through such a scalding work of art. And he was able to accept that, and listen to the album, and we were able to find sympathy for each other and ourselves in that shared sonic backdrop.
Because of that experience, it’s not an album I can revisit very often. Listening to it again in order to write this post, I found the tears flowing fresh as ever. For her, for me, for him, for all of us. But love is one of those poisons hat contains its own cure, and I think it’s meaningful that Björk feeds that to her listeners as well as to herself, instead of just inviting us to wallow in the depths carved out by this great love, as so many other artists have.
That’s why I recommend the Forest Swords 45-minute “Stonemilker” remix to those who are healing, or who are attempting to heal others. Sometimes we need to sit in that glow, but are unable to find it in ourselves. That’s what music is for, isn’t it?
And as a little scoop of sorbet following this big meal of a post, I am attaching another remix here at the end: an 8-bit Nintendo version of “Stonemilker” that never fails to put a smile on my face. When Shakespeare wrote “If music be the food of love, play on!” he probably didn’t have The Legend of Zelda in mind, but knowing how many people (including me!) have used video games to cope in the aftermath of a profound emotional loss, I can’t help but think he’d approve.
This has been another installment of Music For Diviners. Thanks for listening, more will be coming soon!

2 Chronicles 1:1-3:17, Romans 6:1-23 , Psalms 16:1-11, Proverbs 19:20-21
Today is the 20th day of July. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and, of course, it's a pleasure and an honor to be here with you today as we continue forward in our week. Of course, we’re getting to the end of our week but we’re at the beginning of a new book. We’ll begin 2 Chronicles today and there’s not really anything to tell. We talked about the books of Chronicles when we began first Chronicles. We’ve reached second Chronicles, but that's just a delineation. This was all one larger scroll that had been broken apart for ease of finding references. And generally, we come to the end of David's reign and move into Solomon's reign. And that's where we find ourselves. And that’s sort of the delineation here in the books of Chronicles. So, we begin. 2 Chronicles chapter 1 verse 1 through 3:17 today. And we’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week.
Commentary:
Okay. So, over the last several days in Romans we’ve gone back to Abraham and realized that it was his faith in God and not his obedience to a law that was the activator for God's promise to him. We’ve learned that the law's purpose was to reveal our helplessness and inability to achieve perfection before God. In other words, in our own strength, we will never be able to stand before God and claim that we deserve to be there because we have achieved perfection. We also learned that even while we were enemies, alienated, estranged from God, He loved us so much that He came to rescue us and that he actually wants a relationship with us. And I chuckle because it’s like, if someone is willing to die for you, than they love you, and they won’t to have a relationship with you. So, within that context Paul discussed sin in our reading from Romans today. He asked the question, should we keep on sinning so that God could be more gracious to us. Of course, Paul denounced the idea. He said, we know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin can lose its power over us so that we’re no longer the slaves of sin. So, let’s think about this. The idea that sin will always be an ongoing part of our lives is really not supposed to be our reality, but this is not something we can achieve our own. Like, brute force isn’t gonna get us to not sin, right? Even though we believe in Jesus, we cannot on our own lead a sinless life that leads us to perfection without Gods help any more than the Jewish people could achieve righteousness before God by obeying the law, which is Paul's point. But his point is also that we’re no longer on our own. When we put our faith in Jesus, we underwent a spiritual transformation. Right? So, the person that we were without God, that person ended and we were re-created or reborn into a new life, completely, one intertwined with the divine nature of God through Jesus. Sin isn’t the default posture anymore, which is why the good news of the gospel is good news. This is all going to boil down to who and what we choose to obey. That's what Paul said, and I'm quoting him here, “don't you know that if you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of that one you obey, either of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness.” So, when we look at this clearly, some things become obvious. We don't have to live with one foot in darkness and the other in God's kingdom. In fact, what that would be is the most uncomfortable way to live, probably at all. That's what the gospel offers, like a halfway in. We were invited to live as new creatures who are no longer enslaved the darkness in any way. That's the offer and it's impossible to move in that direction without cutting ties with anything that would chain us to any other outcome than this collaborative life of faith with God. So, let’s give that some thought today.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, we invite you into the places where we continue to choose to be enslaved to sin. This isn't supposed to be and doesn't have to be our reality, but we realize that every time we cross those thresholds into sin we are making choices to do it, and at times feel powerless to do anything about it because we have no power to do anything about it. What we fail to do often is to submit ourselves, which is also a difficult thing at times. What we fail to do is run to you for protection. And, so, Holy Spirit show us the ways that were exposing ourselves to the darkness and allowing it to seep into our lives and allowing it to wreak havoc with us. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:
Good morning DAB good morning DABbers. This is Brady from __ Georgia. I’m calling to ask you all to pray for my mother and not just the one time but, you know, not to be selfish, but, you know, nonstop, without cease. Her name is Rose Marie O’Neill. And she suffers with a mental disorder. In her mind, she feels that she’s being attacked, that there are lasers in the sky that are being shot down at her and causes her great pain. I recently relocated her here to live with me in Georgia because she had a meltdown where she left out of her home and she was walking around the neighborhood in a nightgown when it was cold. The neighbors called the local authorities. They took her to the hospital and there she was admitted to the state hospital. And, so, we finally got her to a point where she was cognitive to say that she has a son and my contact information. I was able to get information and then relocate her to Georgia with me. But, you know, it’s all new. And, so, I’m asking you for me, I’m asking that you all would pray for her that she would be restored, her mental health, and then for me to give me strength because it’s all new for me. She’s afraid to even go to the restroom. Sometimes at night, you know, __ it’s like she lost control of her bladder, her bowels, so she wears diapers. And, so, like I said, it’s just __. And then on top of that if you could pray for my daughter Hilary, that she can find employment and that God would really just touch her and give her the ability to...
Hallelujah. Hey it’s Matthew Fouts. It’s July 17th, 2018. It’s nine years for me since I gave my life to Christ. I was listening to the Daily Audio Bible walking around the yard in such a few months before that day. And there was a man, his name was David S. I worked with him. He was a fork truck driver. And he came in he knocked on my office cube. He said hey, come to this meeting were going to build this place full of Christian men. And I was going to church a little bit at the time. I was listening to the Daily Audio Bible. So, I figured, hey, I’m a Christian man. So, I went to that meeting and I heard a gospel. I heard about Jesus, born of a virgin and lived to sinless, perfect life. He died on the cross and He’s raised from the dead man. And it made sense to me. And I gave my life to Christ and I honestly didn’t think He could do anything. But He changed everything. He’s healed by relationship. He delivered me from a pornography addiction. He delivered me from depression, anxiety. Jesus is Lord man. And if He did it for me He’ll do it for anybody out there. So, my prayer today is for the person that hasn’t yet heard the gospel, hasn’t yet read the Daily Audio Bible. I pray that those doors be open, that they hear it, that they receive Jesus, are healed, delivered, set free, saved in Jesus’ name. That’s my prayer and I know you’ll all agree with me because that’s the will of God. It’s His will and that none should perish but that all should come to him. All should come to repentance He says. So that’s a change of mind, change of heart. That’s what he does. He loves us and I love you because he first loved me man. God is real. It’s nine years and He’s never let me down. You know what? He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. God bless you. I love you.
This is Michael from North Georgia. I don’t usually call in that much. I’ve only called in maybe two or three times and requested prayer. The particular reason being I love to listen to other people’s requests because it gives me something to pray for and I’m not really the type of person to ask for much. But the few times that I’ve called in I’ve requested prayer for my wife because she was sick and she’s getting better but she’s not 100%. So, please continue to pray for my wife, Sandy, she has a lung disease called vasculitis. She will probably, unless the Lord decides to heal her anytime soon, will have that for the rest of her life. She also has a heart condition, something, cardio myopathy, or something to do the heart, heart races. And one sides enlarged. And she’s a diabetic and she has thyroid trouble as well. So she’s, it’s a real hard struggle for her day-to-day. My daughter Abby, that I requested prayer for. She’s 15. Her blood sugar level has stabilized for the most part. She’s doing a lot better and she got to come home. And my little brother Wesley, he passed away Thursday night, Friday morning of this week. On Friday the 13th he died. They found him dead in his house. He was really sick and he didn’t get better. God brought him on home. So, today I am going to bury my little brother. Please pray for me that I will be able to find the joy of the Lord again in this. I know that God’s got him and I know He’s holding him close. But where else do we hear. And I need the prayer from every one to keep me. Thank you for every one of you in the name of Jesus.
Good afternoon Daily Audio Bible family. This is Chandra calling from Maryland. I want to get everything out. I had to pray before I called because I get really nervous. First, I have to say thank you Brian, Jill, and everybody who does the behind the scenes work that makes everything possible. Thank you guys so much. Well, I want to say, first to Keisha, I was listening to the broadcast from the 14th of July and I was hearing Keisha’s request and how she mentioned about how what we may pray for, it will come through, but it may not come through in the way that we pray for it. I’m just saying verbatim, how everyone may interpret things. I do understand, I do want to share a short testimony. I have shared with you guys how I’ve been dealing with multiple sclerosis and I’ve been dealing with being confined to a wheelchair, which is a whole other story. I pray vigilantly that the Lord help me get back in the pool and once I get back in the water that will help me to become more able to and stronger to get out of the wheelchair and do other things. Well, the Lord’s answering my prayer but not in an expected way. He actually is having me in this water aerobics class where I would have to use muscles that I haven’t used in a long time. And just by the fact that I’m going there and I’m able to get out of the wheelchair and get into the pool and exercise even though my legs are weak, it’s being a testimony to people who see my progress or see what I’m going through. And I just want to share that with any…

Jeff Buckely Mystifying Caucasian Male by KARA VANDERBIJL
Jeff Buckley’s brief intro before launching into a cover of “Dido’s Lament” is murmured in a ghost’s timbre, barely outdoing the white noise on the recording even at highest volume. His audience laughs, spooked, then the piano opens. “Thy hand, Belinda,” Jeff sings. His is a freakish voice, made all the more odd by the grainy quality of the recording; a high falsetto mimicking the dramatic mezzo-soprano for which Purcell wrote the aria. He wails — his voice almost breaks, but doesn’t. Listening, we want it to break; the melody is too pure, its perfect desperation too stringent for this wild, unpredictable thing. Remember me, forget my fate. It’s this drama, the constant rediscovery and redelivery of a familiar, worked-over, oft-repeated tune that defines Jeff Buckley’s work. Like his voice, each song defies an original genre or mood, turning back to a more primal source. Is it a lament? A mockery? A strange self-issued prophecy from a man who, two years later, would walk into the Wolf River in Memphis, TN and drown? Like many of his other performances, this one (a set at the 1995 Meltdown Festival in the UK) now only exists on the web, maybe even on fragments of a video somewhere. Had Jeff Buckley lived past the age of 30, it might have remained among the other, less-than-perfect detritus of a long and successful career. But when the talented die young, we like to watch their home videos. Their unprotected moments. Their failures, blow-ups, fuck-ups. Anything that might give us clarity about their end: what “brought them to this point.” Short of simply accepting that it was death that did Buckley in, we might say it was the success that got him.
Only four years earlier, Jeff had sung in public for the first time, at a tribute concert for his estranged father Tim Buckley. They had met once, when Jeff was eight, after one of Tim’s shows; two months later, Tim overdosed on heroin. Neither Jeff nor his mother Mary Guibert were invited to the funeral. When Jeff stepped onto the stage at Saint Ann’s in Brooklyn to sing Tim’s “I Never Asked to Be Your Mountain”, most people weren’t aware that Tim had a son, and most people who knew Jeff didn’t know he could sing — he’d patented himself, stubbornly, as a guitarist — so the evening unveiled not only Jeff’s vocal talent but also exactly where it had come from. This pissed Jeff off. If anything, he had hoped to use the brief set as his way of paying his respects, of breaking away from Buckley senior. Years later, when a fan shouted a request for one of Tim’s songs, Jeff looked her straight in the eye and said, “I don’t play that hippie shit.”
Jeff escaped Anaheim, CA, where he’d been born, leaving behind what he described as a “rootless trailer trash” existence. He’d been struck by New York fever. Over the next year and a half, he played at coffee shops and nightclubs in Lower Manhattan, and eventually earned a regular Monday night slot at Sin-é in the East Village, accompanying himself on the guitar. He covered Bob Dylan. Nina Simone. Van Morrison. Singing “Sweet Thing” once, with Glen Hansard, a then still-obscure Buckley drew a crowd — so large that people began pressing up against the windows outside the club — by taking the second verse through a series of vocal gymnastics that lasted fifteen minutes. A brief writing streak with Gary Lucas resulted in two original songs, “Mojo Pin” and “Grace”, that Jeff nevertheless rarely played in his set. Lucas also invited Buckley to perform in his band, Gods and Monsters, early in 1992. By that time, however, the streets outside Sin-é were lined with record label executives hoping to snag Buckley for a solo album. That October, Buckley signed with Columbia, hired a drummer and bassist, and recording for what would be his first and only studio album, Grace, began the next summer. A quick EP, Live at Sin-é was released in November ‘93, documenting Jeff’s coffee-shop years, a time he’d long for intensely almost as soon as he left it. Jeff was not prolific; of the ten songs on Grace, he penned only three on his own. Lee Underwood, Tim Buckley’s guitarist, said once that Jeff suffered from an all too-relatable sort of creative inertia. “[He] felt uncertain of his musical direction, not only after signing with Columbia, but before signing, and all the way to the end. He did not know himself — which musical direction he might want to commit himself to, because taking a stand, making a commitment to a direction, or even to composing and then successfully completing the recording of a single song, was extremely difficult for him. One the one hand, creativity was his calling. On the other hand, any creative gesture that offered the possibility of success terrified him.” To speak nothing of the looming shadow of a father he never spoke of, to whom he was inevitably compared, as well as a sort of dogged perfectionism that plagued his studio sessions.
Spending hours, as he did, overdubbing the vocals until he had reached what he felt was the optimal delivery, Jeff seemed reluctant to pin any one mood onto his work. Andy Wallace, Grace’s producer, had to piece several of the songs together from dozens of takes. The music was in constant metamorphosis, to the point where later, live renditions of the songs sounded different, singular, wed to whatever Buckley had learned or felt or needed in between one performance and the next. He seemed to rewrite them each time. Grace is disparate, wavering between the almost cacophonous landscapes of “Mojo Pin”, “Grace”, “Last Goodbye”, and “Eternal Life”, the hushed, sacramental “Corpus Christi Carol”, and the desperate “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over”. Buckley alternately whispers or wails, seems to laugh and growl, shreds remarkably. The music is a story as emotionally complex as its author — calling it simply brooding or romantic minimizes its scope. In reality it is confused, mystifying, indecisive.
The album, like the EP preceding it, sold in a slow trickle. Jeff’s songs rarely made it to the airwaves. Critics were either charmed by its triumph or turned off by what, altogether, seemed to be a confusing melange of emotions and genres. The French loved it, though, and in 1995 awarded Jeff with the Grand Prix International du Disque, an honor he shared with the likes of Edith Piaf, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, and Bob Dylan. David Bowie claimed that Grace was the one album he’d want with him on a desert island. Meanwhile, Jeff silenced restless crowds in concert halls across the globe with a few strums of his guitar, with a Buddhist-like opening chant called “Chocolate” that hushed chatter until you could hear a pin drop. Only then would he break into “Mojo Pin”. Putting Buckley’s cover of the Cohen song in a separate category — as I undoubtedly must — “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” is Grace’s masterpiece. Jeff introduced it first at Sin-é when he signed with Columbia, luring listeners who had previously doubted his ability to produce a decent song of his own. Back then it was just Jeff and his guitar, sans the divine harmonium intro, the swelling gospel choir, absolutely pure. Lyrically, it’s as seductive as it is sad — as Jeff escalates to “It’s never over/my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder,” a tingle begins deep down. It’s as much the power of his voice as the power of his poetry. He chokes it out, like an old love letter he’s been forced to read aloud.
I will say this about “Hallelujah” — everything blooms from the single, conquered breath that opens it. Buckley is remembered for these quieter contributions, and appropriately so; in a way they serve as auto-epitaphs. An incredible mimic, he nails Nina’s voice during brief moments in “Lilac Wine” and rivals any choir boy with Britten’s “Corpus Christi Carol”, which had been introduced to him by a friend in high school. But it’s palpable anger that colors the rest of Grace, anger that Jeff would take with him on tour and into the beginnings of his second album, My Sweetheart, The Drunk. He butted heads with the bigwigs at Columbia when he refused to make a music video. He alienated friends, his photographer Merri Cyr, and some of his strongest supporters with careless words. Seamlessly integrated into his public image were frequent moments of conflict, uncertainty, and stubbornness, most of them related to his burgeoning fame, and almost always triggered by casual comparisons with the late Tim Buckley. When People Magazine nominated Jeff as one of their “50 Most Beautiful People” in 1995, something snapped. He dyed his hair black and stopped washing it. He wallowed, thin, in giant thrift-store plaid shirts and Doc Martens. On stage, Grace changed: “Buckley and the band were now playing harder, faster, and louder than ever before, transforming slow-burning epics — ‘Last Goodbye’, ‘So Real’, ‘Eternal Life’ and the title track — into rock and roll firestorms that bordered on the metallic. ‘Mojo Pin’ circa 1996 was almost unrecognizable: Buckley screamed so hard as the song built to its thunderous climax that you feared he’d cough up a vocal cord,” wrote Jeff Apter, one of Buckley’s biographers.
Touring took its toll on Jeff; he needed peace and quiet to work things out, to create, but the frenzy of the road worked up a hysteria in him. Once, in Ireland, he disappeared for a few hours in the afternoon and walked around singing and playing guitar in the pouring rain, skipping interviews and a sound check. Another time he arrived so drunk on stage he broke into a rendition of one of his father’s songs. Yet another time, wasted, he fell asleep underneath a table at a show in Manhattan. Another musician would have been thinking of giving the public a second album to chew on; Jeff was just trying to stay alive. Returning to New York in 1996 after two years on the road, he found the Village, which had once afforded him the comfortable hum of cappuccino machines, the safety of coffee shop anonymity, completely transformed. Sin-é had closed its doors. What few shows he did play, he had to advertise under pseudonyms. He needed a quiet spot, a shrine. So, in early ‘97, he went to Memphis. During the last few months of his life, Jeff Buckley lived in a shotgun house which he rented for a paltry $450 a month. He owned little more than a couch, a telephone, and a telephone book. What time he did not spend cycling back and forth from a Vietnamese restaurant he spent lying in the grass in his backyard, or at the butterfly exhibit at the Memphis Zoo. He played at a beer joint called Barrister’s, quietly. He recorded sketches of new songs on Michael Bolton cassettes that he’d picked up for pennies and sent them to his band in New York. My Sweetheart, The Drunk tremulously came together. On May 29th, the band flew into Memphis to begin recording. That night, Jeff sang Led Zeppelin as he waded into the river.

Want to bring your ideas to life, to make them take up residence in the reader’s mind, lurking in the background, tugging, pulling, and cajoling their emotions until they think and feel exactly as you want?
Then you’re going to love this post.
Let’s jump in.
What are Power Words?
Power words are persuasive, descriptive words that trigger a positive or negative emotional response. They can make us feel scared, encouraged, aroused, angry, greedy, safe, or curious. Authors, copywriters, and content marketers use “power words” to spice up their content and compel audiences to take action.
Clear as mud?
Let’s deconstruct an example from the great Winston Churchill. All the power words are underlined:
We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I can say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.
Inspiring, right?
Here’s why:
Power Words = Emotional Words Packed with Persuasion
Smart speakers, as well as their speechwriters, sprinkle their speeches with carefully-chosen power words drenched in sensory details, drawing the audience from one emotion to another as skillfully as any novelist or screenwriter.
And it goes beyond speakers and storytellers.
Email marketing messages, copywriting, infographics, step-by-step tutorials, sales pages, inspirational quotes, content marketing, case studies, call to actions, testimonials, tweets, and other social media posts are all designed to influence the reader in some way. You want to pass along information, yes, but you also want the reader to feel a certain way about that information.
Maybe you want to impress them, get them excited, make them cautious, get them angry, encourage them to keep going, or any number of emotions. The better a job you do at making them feel, the more influential you are, and the better your chances of getting what you want.
So…
Looking for a quick way to give your writing more punch?
Maybe add a little personality or pizzazz — that extra little “oomph” that grabs your reader’s attention?
Then you need to infuse your content with power words.

The 7 Different Types of Power Words
Fear Power Words
Encouragement Power Words
Lust Power Words
Anger Power Words
Greed Power Words
Safety Power Words
Forbidden Power Words
We’ve organized our power words into seven different types, which all accomplish the same goal: Each elicits emotion in your reader.
Let’s go over each type and see why these words work.
1. Fear Power Words
Let’s do a little experiment.
Just for a moment, stop reading this post, turn on the television, and go to a major news channel. Watch it for five minutes, listening for the words below.
Chances are, you’ll hear dozens of them. Here’s why:
Fear is without a doubt the most powerful emotion for grabbing and keeping an audience’s attention. To make sure you don’t change the channel, news networks load up with fear words, making you worry you might miss something important.
Granted, you can overdo it, but in my opinion, most writers don’t use these types of words nearly enough. They really do connect with people.
How to Crank Up Emotion with Fear Words
Here’s an example of a blog post headline here at Smart Blogger that utilizes three different fear words:
Open it and you’re greeted by this fear-packed introduction:
I was in agony.
Waves of pain unimaginable shot down my spine, causing every muscle in my body to contract as if I’d been shocked with 20,000 volts of electricity. My back arched up at an unnatural angle. My arms and legs began to shake.
One moment, I was on a webinar talking to a few hundred people about traffic, walking them through exactly how to start a blog and make it popular. The next, everything went dark. I was still conscious, but just barely.
Pretty effective, right?
Here’s another one:
If I’m working from home, will I lose my sanity if I don’t read this post? There’s only one way to find out. (Click!)
Want to sprinkle fear power words into your writing? Here are a bunch to get you started:
Agony Lunatic Apocalypse Lurking Armageddon Massacre Assault Meltdown Backlash Menacing Beating Mired Beware Mistake Blinded Murder Blood Nightmare Bloodbath Painful Bloodcurdling Pale Bloody Panic Blunder Peril Bomb Piranha Buffoon Pitfall Bumbling Plague Cadaver Played Catastrophe Plummet Caution Plunge Collapse Poison Corpse Poor Crazy Prison Cripple Pummel Crisis Pus Danger Reckoning Dark Refugee Deadly Revenge Death Risky Deceiving Scary Destroy Scream Devastating Searing Disastrous Shame Doom Shatter Drowning Shellacking Dumb Shocked Embarrass Silly Fail Slaughter Feeble Slave Fired Strangle Fool Stupid Fooled Suicide Frantic Tailspin Frightening Tank Gambling Targeted Gullible Teetering Hack Terror Hazardous Terrorist Hoax Torture Holocaust Toxic Horrific Tragedy Hurricane Trap Injure Vaporize Insidious Victim Epidemic Cataclysmic Bufoon Suffering Reckoning Trauma Dangerous Annihilate Invasion Volatile IRS Vulnerable Jail Warning Jeopardy Nerd Lawsuit Wounded Looming Cringeworthy Last chance Fugacious Worry Wreaking havoc
2. Encouragement Power Words
Let’s face it.
When they’re reading, most people aren’t exactly bouncing off the walls with energy and enthusiasm. They’re probably bored, maybe a little depressed, and almost definitely tired.
And they’re looking for something, anything, that’ll wake them up and make them feel better.
The good news?
Your writing can do that for them.
How to Crank Up Emotion with Encouragement Words
Here’s an example email from Mirasee:
With two encouraging words — life-changing and magic — in one email subject line, it’s a message that stands out in most inboxes.
Want to give your readers a pep talk and get them charged up again? Want to encourage them?
Use these persuasive words:
Amazing Jubilant Ascend Legend Astonishing Life-changing Astounding Magic Audacious Marvelous Awe-inspiring Master Awesome Mind-blowing Backbone Miracle Badass Miraculous Beat Noble Belief Perfect Blissful Persuade Bravery Phenomenal Breathtaking Pluck Brilliant Power-up Celebrate Praise Cheer Prevail Colossal Remarkable Command Revel Conquer Rule Courage Score Daring Seize Defeat Sensational Defiance Spectacular Delight Spine Devoted Spirit Dignity Splendid Dominate Spunk Effortless Staggering Empower Strengthen Epic Striking Excellent Strong Excited Stunning Extraordinary Stunt Eye-opening Supreme Fabulous Surprising Faith Terrific Fantastic Thrive Fearless Thwart Ferocious Titan Fierce Tough Force Triumph Fulfill Tremendous Glorious Unbeatable Glory Unbelievable Graceful Unforgettable Grateful Unique Grit Unleash Guts Uplifting Happy Valiant Heart Valor Hero Vanquish Honor Victory Hope Win Incredible Wonderful Jaw-dropping Wondrous Kudos Brighten Lovable Radiant Flawless Classy Affable Stupendous Virtuoso Cheery Openhearted Jovial Beauteous Logophile Adorable
3. Lust Power Words
Like it or not, lust is one of the core human emotions.
Just look at the men’s and women’s magazines in the checkout aisle, and you’ll see what I mean. Nearly every headline on the cover is either blatantly or indirectly about sex.
And it works, not just for headlines in men’s and women’s magazines, but for messages to your email list, subheads in your articles — anything.
Editor’s Note: Adding one or two power words to your subheads will compel readers to stick around longer, which will increase your dwell time — a big deal in Google’s eyes.
As a writer, you can use words that inspire lust to make almost anything intriguing.
How to Crank Up Emotion with Lust Words
See if you can spot the lust words in this headline from Cosmopolitan:
Okay, the orange underlines probably give it away, but my hunch is you didn’t need them.
Power words like captivating and love jump off the page. And if you use them properly, they can stir all sorts of emotions in your readers’ heads. (Want to see your click-through rates soar? Add a lust word or two.)
Here’s a lascivious list of descriptive words to get you started:
Allure Naughty Arouse Nude Bare Obscene Begging Orgasmic Beguiling Passionate Brazen Pining Captivating Pleasure Charm Provocative Cheeky Racy Climax Raunchy Crave Risque Delight Rowdy Delirious Salacious Depraved Satisfy Desire Saucy Dirty Scandalous Divine Seduce Ecstasy Seductive Embrace Sensual Enchant Sex Enthralling Shameless Entice Sinful Entrance Sleazy Excite Sleeping Explicit Spank Exposed Spellbinding Fascinate Spicy Forbidden Steamy Frisky Stimulating Goosebumps Strip Hanker Sweaty Heavenly Tantalizing Hottest Taste Hypnotic Tawdry Impure Tease Indecent Tempting Intense Thrilling Intoxicating Tickle Itching Tight Juicy Tingle Kinky Turn on Kiss Unabashed Lascivious Uncensored Lewd Untamed Lick Untouched Lonely Urge Longing Voluptuous Love Vulgar Pleasurable Charismatic Riveting Obsession Mouthwatering Compelling Magnetic Enchanting Lovely Engaging Intriguing Fascinating Flirt Alluring Lure Wanton Luscious Wet Lush Whip Lust Wild Mischievous X-rated Mouth-watering Yearning Naked Yummy Sneak peek Promiscuous
4. Anger Power Words
As writers, sometimes our job is to anger people.
Not for the fun of it, mind you, but because someone is doing something wrong, and the community needs to take action to correct it.
The problem is, with wrongdoing, most people are pretty apathetic — they’ll wait until the situation becomes entirely intolerable to do anything, and by then, it’s often too late.
So, we have to fan the flames.
How to Crank Up Emotion with Anger Words
The authors of this Forbes headline don’t pull any punches:
I didn’t realize some people get angry over business jargon, but apparently it’s a thing. And this headline, undoubtedly, had such people frothing at the mouth.
If you want to connect with people’s anger and slowly but surely work them into a frenzy, use the power words below.
Just be careful who you target. Lawyers can eat you alive if you pick on the wrong person. 🙂
Abhorrent Money-grubbing Abuse Nasty Annoying Nazi Arrogant No good Ass kicking Obnoxious Backstabbing Oppressive Barbaric Pain in the ass Bash Payback Beat down Perverse Big mouth Pesky Blatant Pest Brutal Phony Bullsh*t Pissed off Bully Pollute Cheat Pompous Clobber Pound Clown Preposterous Cocky Pretentious Corrupt Punch Coward Punish Crooked Rampant Crush Ravage Curse Repelling Debase Repugnant Defile Revile Delinquent Revolting Demolish Rotten Desecrate Rude Disgusting Ruined Dishonest Ruthless Distorted Savage Evil Scam Exploit Scold Force-fed Sick and tired Foul Sink Freaking out Slam Full of sh*t Slander Greedy Slap Gross Slay Harass Smash Hate Smear High and mighty Smug Horrid Sniveling Infuriating Snob Jackass Snooty Kick Snotty Kill Spoil Knock Stuck up Knock out Suck Know it all Terrorize Lies Trash Livid Trounce Loathsome Tyranny Loser Underhanded Lying Up to here Maul Useless Broke Stink Fear Raise hell Sneaky Screw Rant Miff Diatribe Vicious Weak Diminish Provoke Hostile Morally bankrupt Worst Thug B.S. Agitate Boil over Annoy Violent Misleading Violate Lollygag Quixotic
5. Greed Power Words
The legendary copywriter Gary Halbert once said, “If you want people to buy something, stomp on their greed glands until they bleed.” Graphic, yes, but also true.
Skim through good sales copy on an e-commerce site, and you’ll find a lot of power words based on vanity or greed. Many of them are so overused they’ve become cliché, but that doesn’t stop them from working.
The truth is, nearly every human being on the planet is interested in either saving or making money.
How to Crank Up Emotion with Greed Words
Its explicit and implicit use of greed words makes this popular book from Dave Ramsey a great example:
“Money” is hard to miss — it’s probably the ultimate greed word and it’s sitting there in capital letters.
But a title like “Total Money Makeover” also implies another greed word (even though it doesn’t directly state it): money-saving.
(It also gets bonus points for using alliteration and the safety power word “proven”, which we’ll discuss in a moment.)
If you want to stomp on your readers’ greed glands, use these power words:
Bank Jackpot Bargain Lowest price Best Luxurious Billion Marked down Bonanza Massive Booked solid Money Cash Money-draining Cheap Money-saving Costly Nest egg Discount Pay zero Dollar Prize Double Profit Explode Quadruple Extra Reduced Feast Rich Fortune Savings Don’t miss out Fast Giveaway While they last Instantly Expires Never again Premiere Final More Hurry Sale ends soon Value Monetize Big Save New Deadline Handsome Noteworthy Kick ass Moneymaking Knockout Lucky Notable Amplify At the top Attractive Wealthy Ahead of the game Legendary Beautiful Optimal Good-looking Successful Bold Fortunate Sassy Smart Elegant Gorgeous Clever Foxy Quick-witted Genius Effective Elite Drop-dead Crowned Dazzling You Turbo charge Bright Super-human Brassy Booming Boss Unbeaten Undefeated Boost Exclusive Frugal Special Price break Before Running out Upsell Bonus Free Six-figure Freebie Skyrocket Frenzy Soaring Prosperous Surge Gift Treasure Golden Triple Greatest Waste High-paying Wealth Inexpensive Whopping Cheat sheet
6. Safety Power Words
Greed isn’t the only emotion you want buyers to feel. You also want to make them feel safe.
They need to trust both you and your product or service. They need to have confidence you’ll deliver, and they need to believe they’ll get results.
Of course, building that kind of trust starts with having a quality brand and reputation, but the words you use to describe yourself and your product or service also matter.
How to Crank Up Emotion with Safety Words

7. Forbidden Power Words
Remember when you were a kid, and someone told you NOT to do something? From that point on, you could think about little else, right? Curiosity always got the better of us.
The truth is, we’re all fascinated by the mysterious and forbidden. It’s like it’s programmed into our very nature.
So why not tap into that programming?

1. Using Power Words in Headlines
Any writer or blogger who’s been in the game for a while knows the headline is the most important part of writing your blog post.
Its purpose, after all, is to entice the reader to read the rest of your content. If your headline fails to get attention, potential readers will ignore it when it shows up in their tweets and social media feeds.
And just one or two power words in your headline is usually enough to make it stand out.
Just look at this headline from BuzzFeed:
The word “Unveiled” makes it feel like a secret is being exposed, and the word “Breathtaking” makes you curious to see what the photo looks like.
Here’s another example from BoredPanda:
People generally love anything adorable, so this headline will easily catch attention. (The fact that it refers to snakes will only make people more curious.)
The headline then drives it home by using the powerful verb “Conquer.”
Here’s one from BrightSide:
While one or two power words are often enough, this headline proves you can use more when it fits.
This headline has four powerful words, but they feel natural in the headline, which keeps it from feeling like over-the-top clickbait.
Last one:
This headline from our How to Make Money Writing: 5 Ways to Get Paid to Write in 2020 post incorporates two greed words: “money” and “get paid.”
It’s one of our most-popular posts, and its headline’s use of power words is a big reason why.
2. Using Power Words in Subheads
Too many writers overlook the value of subheads, which is a mistake. Once people click on your headline, most will scan the post first to see if it looks worthy of their attention.
Adding some power words to your subheads is a good way to make your post look like an interesting read.
For example, here are three subheads from our post on E-book mistakes:
See how the power words in these subheads grab your attention and make you want to read the text that follows?
Adding one or two power words to your subheads will compel readers to stick around longer, which will increase your dwell time — a big deal in Google’s eyes.
3. Using Power Words in Email Subject Lines
Having an email list is of little use if only a handful of readers bother to open your emails.
And these days, most people’s inboxes are flooded, so they’re selective in which emails they open.
You can stand out in their inbox and raise your open rates by including power words in your subject lines.
Just look at this one from Ramit Sethi:
If this subject line would’ve read “The rules of learning,” do you think it would be as appealing? The word “unspoken” is what makes it interesting.
Here’s another one from Cal Fussman:
Both “Triumph” and “Tragedy” are powerful words full of emotion.
And finally, here’s a good example from AppSumo:
The power phrase “Unleash the power” makes you feel this email is hiding something incredibly powerful inside.
See how that works?
When you send out emails to your list, try to add a power word to your subject line so it stands out in readers’ inboxes.
4. Using Power Words in Opt-In Boxes
As a blogger, one of your main goals is to grow a large and engaged readership, and the best way to do it is by converting readers into subscribers.
That means — unless you’re using a blogging platform like Medium which doesn’t allow them — you should have opt-in forms scattered across your website.
You can place them on your homepage, at the end of your posts, in your sidebar, in a popup, or anywhere else.
But no matter where you place them, your opt-in boxes must catch people’s eye and make them want to share their email address with you. Because they won’t give it away to just anyone.
(Remember, their inboxes are already flooded, so they’re not necessarily eager to get even more emails.)
Fortunately, you can use power words to make your offer more enticing.
As an example, here’s an old popup from Cosmopolitan:
This popup had power words everywhere, but it avoided feeling like overkill. I bet it converted like crazy.
Here’s a slightly more subtle example from Betty Means Business:
It’s understated, but still quite effective.
Again, you don’t have to overdo it with the power words on these. A little can go a long way.
Here’s one final example from Renegade Planner:
In short:
If you’re not using power words in your opt-in boxes, you’re missing out.
Big time.
5. Using Power Words on Your Homepage
Your homepage is the face of your website and it’s usually one of the most visited pages. Many people who visit your website will see this page first, so you want it to make a good first impression.
Some people use their homepage to promote their email list, others use it to promote one of their products, and others use it as a red carpet — welcoming new visitors and explaining what their site is all about.
In any case, your homepage is a good spot to add a few power words, as it can determine whether people stay (and take the action you want them to take) or leave (never to return).
Look at this value proposition on the homepage for Nerd Fitness:
“Nerds,” “Misfits,” and “Mutants” are unusual power words that work well for Nerd Fitness’ target audience. These words immediately separate it from all the other fitness blogs out there.
But they push it even further with “Strong,” “Healthy,” and “Permanently.”
Here’s another value proposition from MainStreetHost’s homepage:
It’s quite minimal, isn’t it? They just wrote down three power words and follow it up with a service they provide.
Of course, you don’t have to limit your use of power words to the top of your homepage.
You can use it in other parts of the homepage too, as Ramit Sethi does here in his list of what you’ll get when you sign up for his email list:
Go look at your homepage now and see if you can find any areas you can spruce up with some power words.
6. Using Power Words in Business Names/Blog Names
Having a forgettable name is poison to your website’s growth. So when you start a blog, you want to make sure you have a name people can easily recall.
If you haven’t chosen your blog name yet (or if you’re thinking about rebranding), you should use a power word to give it some punch. It’ll make you stand out from all the boring, forgettable brands out there.
Just take a look at the collection of blog names below and see how well they’ve incorporated power words:
7. Using Power Words in Product Names
Just like you can use power words to spruce up your blog name, you can also use them to make your product names pack more of a punch.
It can make the difference between your potential customers thinking, “Ooh, this product sounds cool!” and them thinking, “Meh.”
Just check out this subscription product from Nerd Fitness:
It has such a powerful name that you’d almost want to sign up without learning anything else about it. Who wouldn’t want to be part of a community of rising heroes?
Here’s another good example from Pat Flynn:
It’s a powerful name for his podcasting course that instantly informs you of the benefit.
So if you’re about to launch a product (or if you’ve launched a product with a tepid name), consider giving it a power word to make it pack a punch.
8. Using Power Words on Sales Pages
You can also use power words to spruce up your sales pages and make them more effective at selling your e-commerce products or services.
They will grab people’s attention when they arrive on the page, they will keep their attention as they scroll down, and they’ll help seduce readers before they reach your “buy” button.
Just look at this headline on Ramit Sethi’s sales page for his product 50 Proven Email Scripts (which also has a power word in its name):
And as you scroll down, you see he keeps using power words throughout his sales page.
His headline is followed by emotion-packed subheads:
And he even uses power words in his guarantee:
9. Using Power Words in Testimonials
Power words are also tremendously effective in testimonials.
Of course, I’m not suggesting you change people’s testimonials to include power words. But you can certainly select the ones that already use them to great effect.
Just look at this example from Betty Means Business:
Or look at this one from Farideh’s blog:
And here’s another example from Renegade Planner:
All these testimonials will lend extra credibility and excitement due to their power words and phrases.
10. Using Power Words in Bullet Lists
Many sales pages include a list of benefits of the product they’re selling. Many opt-in forms include a huge list of reasons you should sign up to their email list. And many case studies use bullet lists to quickly summarize information.
You can use power words in these lists to inspire more excitement in your reader as they read through them.
Here’s one example from Ramit Sethi’s sales page for his How to Talk to Anyone course:
And here’s another example from an opt-in form on Restart Your Style:
Without these power words, these lists wouldn’t convince nearly as many readers to buy or subscribe.
11. Using Power Words in Button Copy and CTA (Call to Action)
Yep, you can use power words in your button copy too — even if you only have a few words you can fit in there.
One of the most common power words used in buttons is “Free” (as in the example below):
But you can be more creative with buttons than you might think.
Takes this button from the sales page for the book The Renegade Diet:
“Immediate,” “Money Back,” and “Guarantee” are all incredibly powerful words, and the author manages to squeeze them all into one button.
Here’s an example from Tim Ferris:
He could’ve used “Send Me the List” as most people would do, but “Unlock” makes it sound a lot more intriguing — like you’re getting access to something that’s been kept hidden away.
Now take a look at the buttons on your site.
Do you see any opportunities to spruce them up with a power word?
12. Using Power Words in Author Bios
Your author bio is another extremely important part of your marketing.
When you guest post for another blog (or write a paid article as a freelancer), your author bio has the difficult job of making readers want to know more about you so they click through to your site.
That means your author bio needs to spark attention and interest. And you usually only get three sentences, so you need to carefully consider the words you use.
As an example, here’s the author bio from Henneke Duistermaat in her post on overcoming writer’s block:
Henneke’s author bio is full of power words. It shows her uniqueness and makes her stand out from other copywriters.
You can tell she has carefully picked each perfect word for maximum impact.
Here’s another example from Sarah Peterson’s post on blog ads:
She opens strong immediately by mentioning her guides are insanely useful. And just the name of her report alone is full of power words: “Free,” “Reveal,” and “Begging.”
Makes you want to get your hands on that report, doesn’t it?
13. Using Power Words on YouTube Videos
If you’re publishing videos on YouTube and you want to get more views, you should use power words in your titles.
All the biggest YouTube channels do this.
They understand most of their views will come from their subscribers finding them in their feeds, and from people finding them in the sidebar of other videos.
In both cases, you’re competing with many other videos for their attention. If you want your video to stand out and be the one they choose to watch, your title has to be captivating.
See how Philip DeFranco does it below:
“Disgusting,” “Punishment,” and “Controversy” are all attention-grabbing words (and that’s besides the attention-grabbing names of Brock Turner, Star Wars, and Kim Kardashian).
Note also how he has capitalized “Disgusting.” It’s another smart trick many YouTube channels use to stand out more in YouTube’s lists of video suggestions.
Style vlogger Aaron Marino often does it as well:
By capitalizing the power words “Don’ts” and “Stupid,” his title catches a lot more attention (as you can see for yourself by the millions of views it’s received).
14. Using Power Words in Book Titles
If you’re interested in writing your own book, adding power words to your titles will help it sell better.
With all the competition in the book market these days, you need a title that grabs people’s attention and makes them want to peek inside.
Here are a few quick grabs from Amazon’s list of bestsellers in the self-help niche:
I’m sure you’ve seen this title before.
You might say Stephen Covey’s use of power words in his title has been highly effective. (See what I did there?)
Here’s another:
Mark Manson’s bestselling title is packed with power.
The power word “Subtle” juxtaposes well with the F-bomb in the title, and his use of “Counterintuitive” will spark some interest as well.
One more:
Lastly, Jen Sincero’s encouraging book title makes you want to flip it open and read it in one go.
The use of “Badass” alone will make it stand out in the self-development section, but her use of “Greatness” and “Awesome” in the subtitle truly seals the deal.

Lillith in Sagittarius: The Wilds
He was no dragon, Dany thought, curiously calm. Fire cannot kill a dragon.” – George R. R. Martin, Song of Ice and Fire
Effective Date: February 14th-November 10th, 2017
Helios’ Astrological Angle on Lilith in Sagittarius: Can you hear it? That beat, deep within your soul? That call to your true self, who yearns to be free above all else? That pull to reject expectations and obligations and shuck off anything that seeks to drag you down? That, my friends, is Lilith, and she is waiting for you to join her in the dark hollows of your soul.
Okay, so we made it through our dark night of the soul that was her trip through Scorpio, and now it is time to take her lessons on what we cannot abide and put them into action. It’s no good if we are slaves to our emotions all the time, no, we need to actually be able to do something with them. They need to not be stumbling blocks that stand in our way and trip us up, but instead we need to make them our guide to true liberation.
Lilith in Sagittarius is best thought of as Daenerys Targaryen, her Khaleesi aspect- Queen of the wild riders, and wild in her own right. This is the part of the show where she starts truly owning her own power, and stepping into the role that her destiny demands of her, and this transit will act in a similar fashion. We have to be honest about what it is we want, and not just honest but candid about our desires! Denial of our feelings and emotions keeps us chained in service to some other agenda or agency, and Lilith will not abide that any longer. She refuses to suppress her self in order to glorify someone else’s wishes. No, Mutha does NOT play that! Lilith is wild and free, and going into Sagittarius only exacerbates that. Now even though she doesn’t have things like Rulership, I would give her an Exaltation in Sagittarius. It is just such a natural fit for her, and it will be to us as well.
Now, I know we have been talking a lot about the upswell of activism, protests and outrage on the ground level after the U.S. Elections, but the astro keeps feeding it! Lilith is no stranger to protest- in fact if the bible is to be believed, she is the first human to ever do it! She stood up for her rights and literally refused to lay down and take it, being nothing but a vessel for another’s pleasure with no regard to her own. She refused, and was cast from paradise into the wilds. Now, on first glance that may be a cruel punishment, but in actuality, Lilith got exactly what she wanted. In Eden, she was a toy, a trophy, a slave; After she was exiled, she was free.
I must put in a word of caution however- If you seek change hard enough, you will most likely get it, and not in a way you would like. Often this change comes at great cost, after hard-won battles. To fight for your rights almost always means losing your paradise. You must choose what is most important to you- Comfort or Justice. You cannot have both. Choose well.
Artemis’ Tarot Take on Lilith in Sagittarius:
Cards: Ace of Cups, Strength, The Chariot
It’s time to get up on that horse and lead the charge. This is Lilith at her wildest, and that is one reckless and devouring beast! Do you know that little voice inside of you that says, “Sit down, this isn’t your time. Just wait.” Welp. It’s about to go bye bye. With Lilith in Saggo, you can expect your desires to rebel to become instinctual. Someone asks you to lay down your basic human rights? Fuck no. Someone insults your lover? Fuck no. Someone asks you to turn the volume down just a little? FUCK. NO.
So, as you can see, this could uh kinda get in the way sometimes. But it can also be that match the finally lights a fire under your ass (even after you have been begged by planet after planet to TRANSFORM since the goddamn mutable meltdown in June). This is like a gang of rouges getting ready to stick up a banker and his wagon – pure raw rage and wild abandon. I suspect a lot more “black box” anarchism may become a thing because of this transit. All of the planets are gearing up in political activist mode, and Lilith is no exception to this. She wants to fight for her higher ideals, and in Saggo she is far more dogmatic about this. Be ye liberal, anarchist, libertarian, alt right, or whatever the fuck, your behavior due to ideological dogma will become amped the fuck up.
This entire reading is pushed forward by the Ace of Cups, meaning that it is very emotionally charged. You’ve had it. You’ve had it to the point that your emotions are spewing out like a fountain; bubbling waters so riddled with emotions it has turned black. What is it exactly that we feel? Dread? Anger? Fear? I would argue it is an interjection. Yes. It is that divine spark deep inside of all of us that refuses to be told it is a mere mechanism that is crying out. We have been told that we have no power – or minimal power that they will grant us after we petition and ask ever so nicely. FUCK NO. We have so much power that we have forgotten about because we have been broken.
So here is what Lilith is going to learn; a herd of wild horses is better at fending off an enemy than just one horse. Think of it like this: our enemies are trying to tame us, make us into playdough so they can mold us to their pleasing. Lilith is here to liberate us from becoming broken in, harnessed and paraded around like clowns. It’s time for some maneuvering. Sometimes we need our ideals to be fired up – become solidified so that we can have the conviction needed to actually fight for what is ours. When the whole world is melting the fuck down, you either dance in the chaos or you plow through it like a chariot. This Lilith wants to brandish a spear and take her place on the battle field, and she knows she is stronger with like minded Amazons taking the charge with her. Take your independence and help your sisters and brothers gain theirs as well – this is what Lilith in Saggo is demanding of us. ONWARD!

The angel of truth “II am the Way, the Truth and the Life”(John:14:6) All that is real is anchored in truth, 10 people can look at the same thing and see from different angles. We are all beings who is truth is anchored in the purest flow of divine energy; the more we allow this energy to vitalize us, the more truth of our lives is manifested. For the next three weeks while I wait to do the morning meltdown 100 with my virtual fitness group online I’m going to keep on doing transform 20 because it’s so effective and efficient and fun and only 20 minutes! #teamhustleandheart #hustleandheartfitness #week15 #hustle #werisetogether #transformation #mindbodysoulspirit #onlinecoach #weightlossjourney #womenhelpingwomen #getfitwithme #womenempoweringwomen #worthitworkouts #sweatysuccessfulmoms #momof3 #homeworkouts #gettingstrongereveryday #letsdothedamnthing #fitgirlgang #custommealplans #customworkouts #entrepreneurship #goals #lovemyteam #createyourdesiredlife #lovewhatyoudodowhatyoulove #wholeheartedliving #yourvibesattractyourtribe #stillallin (at London, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz_OnKsHR3K/?igshid=1fohr6uchx1bz

A HOT CUPPA TASSEOGRAPHY
Written by Algoth’s Grove
“It’s in the details my dear, the truth lies deeply ingrained in the finest of the details.”
– Anonymous
Tasseography, Tasseeomancy or Tassology is the art of divining by reading coffee grinds, tea leaves or even wine sediments left on the bottom of the cup. There are many people who believe in a small ritual before hand, but the real magick lies in the conversation whilst the cup is being held and the beverage consumed by the person in question.
Originating in the East, Turkish coffee, or Arabica coffee beans that are ground, have been used for divination since the 17th century. A dark, strong brew that left its residue all around the cup, proved excellent for divining. Meanwhile, from the distant origins of reading with wax and other liquid to solid formations, came the spice trade from the east. With it came the most exotic tea’s, and with the aroma’s came a new way to read into the past, present and future.
Both coffee and tea readings have evolved around the world in a parallel sense. Tea reading is
Acclaimed to the west, bringing out some of the most elaborate designed tea cups and saucers specifically crafted for the art of divination. Both coffee and tea leaf readings use a similar method of divining:
Pour the coffee, or tea, in both there should be no straining involved.
Ask the querent to have a seat and begin talking. The conversation does not need to be about the question in their heart but they do need to speak and hold the cup at all times.
When they are finished. Take the cup from them and lay it face down on the saucer and speak for another 10 minutes or until you feel the energy is ready to be read.
Turn the cup over and begin looking into their past, future and present.
Here are two common ways reading with Tasseography:
The cup is divided by the handle. Hold the cup with the handle between your forefinger and thumb. On the left is the negative, on the right is the positive. Towards the bottom of the cup is the distant future. Towards the rim is the present day.
Another way, which I find is a lot more sensible, is holding the cup again with the handle between your forefinger and thumb, everything located on the left is the past, everything on the right is the future. The handle itself, on the inside of the cup is the querent’s house or home, and the symbols located here influence them or their immediate family directly. Large symbols are more prevalent and hold greater importance, the smaller symbols are sometimes used together to create a story or an entire event leading up to a bigger symbol.
Again, this is an intuitive practice. Divination uses the intuition and the symbolism is dependent on the reader not on the querent. However, for example, if you are reading and a heron appears and you have no direct meaning for the heron in your mind, heart and soul, then ask the querent what the heron means to them. You will be surprised how many times it is something quite evident in their lives.
After the reading is done, wash the cup, cleanse the cup and clear it of the querent energies. In some cultures it is also custom to allow the querent to take the cup with them. However, if you’re practising with specially made tasseography cups, this could work out to be an expensive form of divination.
Last week we wrote about Pyromancy, the bottom line of all divination is intuition. It is staying calm, trusting the universe, trusting your higher self, and knowing out of confidence and divine connection that we are all connected. A former coven member asked me to teach him to see beyond the veil, and this question is something that baffles many practitioners of the craft. Many of us have seen since childhood, others have woken up one day and things just made sense. Yes, to have the gift of the sight, to be born with it, is indeed something rare, but intuition and the second sight is not something that cannot be learned or that is not available to everyone. We all have the sight. You just have to open your heart to see.
We strongly believe in personal intuitive meanings when divining but some people have requested general meanings and so with this article we are placing some well known Tasseography meanings, again, remember the crow does not mean death and disaster to everyone. Happy Divining!
