How to Translate the Themes and Plugins of a WordPress Site
WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems (CMS) out there, powering millions of websites worldwide. One of the key features of WordPress is its ability to support themes and plugins, which can be used to extend the functionality of a website. However, when it comes to translating a WordPress site, it can be a challenging task, especially if you’re not proficient in the language you want to translate to. Fortunately, there are tools and plugins available to help you with this process. In this blog, we’ll look at how to translate the themes and plugins of a WordPress site using Loco Translate and its Automatic Translate addon.
Tumblr media
What is Loco Translate?
Loco Translate is a free plugin available in the WordPress repository that allows you to translate the themes and plugins of your WordPress site. With Loco Translate, you can translate the text strings used by themes and plugins into different languages. The plugin works by creating translation files for each theme or plugin you want to translate. These files can be modified to include translations for the theme’s or plugin’s text strings.
How do I use Loco Translate?
To use Loco Translate, you’ll need to install the plugin from the WordPress repository. Once installed and activated, you can start translating your themes and plugins. Here’s how:
1. Navigate to Loco Translate in the WordPress dashboard.
2. Choose the theme or plugin you want to translate from the list of available options.
3. Click on the language you want to translate the theme or plugin to.
4. Click the “New Language” button to create a new translation file.
5. Edit the translation file to include translations for the text strings used by the theme or plugin.
How do I use the Automatic Translate addon for Loco Translate (Pro)?
While Loco Translate is a great tool for translating your WordPress site, it can be time-consuming if you have a lot of text strings to translate. Fortunately, the Automatic Translate addon for Loco Translate (Pro) can help speed up the process. Here’s how to use it:
1. Install and activate Automatic Translate addon for Loco Translate (Pro) on your WordPress site.
2. Navigate to the Automatic Translate tab in the Loco Translate dashboard.
3. Choose the theme or plugin you want to translate.
4. Select the languages you want to translate the theme or plugin.
5. Click the “Start Translation” button to begin the automatic translation process.
youtube
The Automatic Translate addon for Loco Translate (Pro) uses machine translation to automatically translate the text strings used by your themes and plugins into different languages. While the translations may not be perfect, they can provide a good starting point for further editing and refinement.
Conclusion
Translating the themes and plugins of a WordPress site can be a challenging task, especially if you’re not proficient in the language you want to translate to. However, tools like Loco Translate and its Automatic Translate Addon for Loco Translate (Pro) make this process much easier. By following the steps outlined in this blog, you can quickly and easily translate your WordPress site into multiple languages, making it accessible to a wide audience.

Infodumping about MGS Dialouge
I watched the MGS 4 cut scene again, because I wanted to know why Big Boss was alive and hugging Snake at the end. I knew it happened, but couldn't remember why. And it reminded me of this issue with Kojima's writing.
Throwing this in: I think Kojima's writing has another issue, in that…
Imagine trying to articulate the themes and ideas of the internet age before we really had definitive words for them? Kojima often is trying to communicate something he's thought about or read, without necessarily having words for the public to understand them.
Like "Memes" as a thing existed for years, but not as we would understand a 'meme' now. Without that it's hard to explain a concept like an internet meme to someone before it became a thing we could all point at and wrap our heads around.
Similarly Kojima (i think) is trying to explain thoughts he's having, that some people might not understand the themes or philosophies behind them. Then you have is writing style. Then you have to have it get transalted from japanese to english, where they're not always 1 to 1. Then you have to put that into a voice actor, who has to deliver it as best as possible.
And it's sort of like that thing, where you say "apple" and expect someone to visualize an apple. Except here, you know what an apple is, but you can't visualize the apple in the context of what Kojima is saying so in a weird way you suddenly grasp the concept of the apple even if you can grasp "apple" (that one might be weird). So there's a lot of words (I think) like Big Boss's speech at the end of MGS 4, or Skull Face in MGS V, where all of the sudden you have a voice actor trying to do this huge monologue and it's got these layers standing between you and completely grasping what the fuck Kojima is talking about.
Then you have to factor in that there's a LOT of it.
So there's…whatever the uncanny valley of spoken word is. A lot of dialogue SOUNDS like english words being spoken, you understand the sentences, but they're kind of spoken wrong, by native english speakers, as if english isn't their first language. It's a similar thing that happened with Silent Hill Ascension: humans are speaking english. But I don't know what the fuck they're saying. And it's not always bc they're using "big" words or ideas I don't understand.
So a lot of dialouge when he's trying to express his ideas, gets muddled down.
This gets confusing for me, because there's a lot of times, where if you aren't invested in the series or don't remember a lot, if you don't remember these names or phrases or organizations or acronyms.
The one that hit me last time I played MGS V was there's a conversation with Miller where he's explaining that you're hired by a company that doesn't exist, to disrupt a pipeling owned by a company that doesn't exist, funded by money that from an account that's dissapeared, from companies that don't exist. And he's slinging so much jargon at you trying to build up suspense and explain the layers of "Oooh you were hired by a ghooost company! Weird huh?" Like I understood the concept of a "Shell company" or the idea that funds can be diverted around the world to escape regulation to GRASP what he was trying to communicate. But the words themself meant nothing because it was just too dense with acronyms and terms I'm not really learning about because I don't care about business or the business world.
So between Kojima's writing skill. The length. Translation. ideas he can't articulate. ideas he can but have concepts, phrases and acronyms you might not be familiar with in the text. Then the Performer struggling to give it the proper emotional depth.
You end up with this weird jumble that kind of makes sense if you remember everything MGS has ever said, and a lot of it that you only KINDA get because he takes the time to explain some of it. But not all of it.

Like you said those who are moderate in their approach doesn't show. What we see is both trending hashtags on twitter that is either "Buildweloveyou" or BOCcancelBuild or something of the kind. Where like you said two extremes are showed.
I see tho also many opinions of people who think it should be proceeded to court and police and like you said we as a public don't have enough evidence to judge what the heck happened. And most likely I don't think we will.
The press most likely will be more of an anouncement that Build is no longer connected to BOC and that he is resigning himself and I think maybe Poi will say something similiar repeating Daemi House is no longer working with BOC. And that they will mediate or something of that nature. And that they are sorry for upsetting fans etc. Anything else will be a further nuisance and will blow things out more. And that's why most of people think press is bad idea because it's hard to imagine discussing such accusation in front of everyone. Another prove of that is that one of the brands replied to upset fan why they are ending their contract with Biu is that we shall wait and see on Saturday and it will become clear. (So basically they kind of confirmed to me that Build will no longer work for BOC).
Anything else other than cutting themselves from this situation puts BOC and other actors in further jeopardy with current and future investors and sponsors. It maybe sad but they have whole company and many people's work to think of.
I haven't seen anyone discussing the fact that Biu, Us and JJ were also part of Daemi House. So I believe there's some truth to Poi story where they knew each other on deeper level than just coworkers. He admitted himself they "had fun as friends".
And when the project was under Filmania Yok and Poi were hiring actors so who the heck knows if it didn't happen through bed. (which I don't judge, honestly while moraly it might seem questionable to some if the both parties consent while adults- go knock out yourself if you wish).
Yesterday this vid on billibilli poped at me and there's nice transaltion of what Yok wrote about their role during prerpoduction Filmania times and later on when the accussations where flying about them being untoward the actors. (which there are also evidances and actors words to prove that). But I guess it's another cans of worms that seems a bit forgotten now.
okay so i’m gonna talk about the build thing.
I’m not going to get into the whole thing and what I think tho.  Like, I have a lot of thoughts.  But the thing is that I don’t KNOW anything.  I don’t know these people.  I can’t speak to them in any way.
We have literally ZERO facts.  There is not a single fact that we, the public, have received that has any evidence behind it.  We have a bunch of one-sided claims and… some messages?  And some faked photo “evidence” from pinterest.
We don’t have any basis for making a judgement on anything solid whatsoever.  The only people who can do that are first of all police and legal proceedings, which I very much doubt are going to actually come to pass, and if they did would take absolutely forever to shuffle out.
And secondly BOC as an employer.  Which is where we can expect some kind of eventual decision, whatever it may be.
But what has truly upset me since this broke, besides just the natural grief of the situation, is the fandom response.  It’s been truly horrendous.
The reaction which I expect from a fandom to this kind of news is shock, upset, grief, confusion, bargaining, etc.  And support of each other as we wait for the full fallout.
Instead I’ve seen celebration, I-told-you-so’s, endless attacks on people who refuse to immediately renounce their support of build, or who are at all measured or hesitant in their response.  Calls to reject not only the actor but the ship, the fandom, the production company.  Comparisons to other actors to highlight how their fave could never.  Finger pointing in every possible direction.
In other words, the fandom eating itself alive.  And is it maybe a small minority of people being toxic and most people being silent?  Yeah, it always is.  But it’s so fucking painful to me and to the fandom as a whole.
Callout culture has reached a point where when anything happens the only performatively pure action to take is to immediately and loudly cut yourself off publicly from anyone at all likely to be tainted in accusation.  Which is exactly why people with bad motives can use accusations to inflict harm on people they want to hurt.
I’ve seen over and over people being angry and upset that things aren’t moving faster with this situation, that there hasn’t been more statements and official shit done and like, it’s been less than two days?  On a weekend?  Do you really want the official procedures of ANY employer to work so fast that someone is fired within hours of anyone saying something bad about them, because that’s what people are literally calling for.
I know it sounds like I’m taking one side here, but honestly I’m not.  No I don’t want the accusations to be true, because NO ONE should want them to be true.  But I can’t speak to their truth at all, because I have no basis to do so.  Except that what has been produced so far has been show NOT to be true (the photographs).  But there’s plenty of toxicity to go around in this situation.
What I want is for the actual truth to be known and acted on appropriately.  That doesn’t need to involve dragging facts out onto twitter or into the public eye, either.  The fandom isn’t judge and jury.  Victims shouldn’t be paraded through the virtual town square to be ripped apart.
People are mourning right now.  What I’m mourning is the loss of a fandom that wasn’t as divisive and at each other’s throats as my last two.  Where I could just go to enjoy stuff without constant infighting.  Well, guess that’s fucking over.
People are reliving their own abuse.  I know I am.
STOP ATTACKING FELLOW FANS.  STOP ATTACKING PEOPLE MOURNING.
How individual fans respond to this isn’t any of your fucking business.  People are allowed to wait to see what happens before making judgments.  People are allowed time and space to process.  Shut the fuck up already.

Certified Translation Companies in Mumbai
Challenges for Translators in India
The linguistic diversity of India presents several challenges to translators while translating in Indian languages. A Translation Companies in Mumbai will always focus on getting the right import and context in the translation. However, some common challenges faced by translators in Mumbai and India are listed below:
Tumblr media
To Translate or not
In technical translations, certain things are not to be translated. These are mostly companies and product names, trademarks, sound marks and patents. They are not translated because they are known and identified in their original form, color, and shape. For example, Microsoft, as a rule does not translate its name and its product names. But this is not the case with all the companies. Certain companies like Nokia do not mind their brand name being written in target languages. Besides, untranslatable text may have technical significance. One has to be very judicious in making these decisions.

On Critical Role captions transaltion
Dearest translators, critters and friends:
These past 4 years together have been the most wonderful experience, working, joking, playing (complaining about Matt’s run-on sentences and Sam's dreadful puns). But it seems that now the time has come for things to change.
As some of you likely have seen, Critical Role has decided to hire out the translation of their captions. This only concerns French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish at the moment, but it is possible that other languages may be added to the program in the future. However, this does not mean goodbye for these teams.
First, this will only cover episodes 20 of the second campaign onwards and CR hosted content, meaning we still have 185 episodes worth of campaign one and two as well as plenty of miscellaneous content to translate.
Second, the translation will be done by a dedicated translation software - we know, we are cringing a little bit too - meaning there will most likely be plenty of errors to fix. hopefully not as much as GTranslate or YouTube’s automated caption translations, but it is unlikely to handle puns, cultural references and inclusive speech well, if at all. And it will need training before it can properly handle the specific language of RPGs, D&D and Critical Role lore.
We are still working to iron out the specifics with CR and within our team, but the bottom line is that nothing will change for most teams for the foreseeable future. As for the four teams concerned, we will continue working the same way for all CR content hosted by Geek and Sundry and will transition to editing the automated captions as they come in - which is likely to be done over a number of weeks or months.
We are keenly aware of the distress and upset that some, if not most of you may feel at this news. We feel it too. And as a community, the discord server is the place to deal with these emotions together. But this is not goodbye for a long while yet.
During these years, we shared our love for this story as well as our love for translation and language. Each slot finished, and each line crafted had a little bit of yourselves in it, and to that, we are infinitely grateful. Each and every one of the captions we made together was weeks — or even months — of teamwork from translators, editors and staff alike. We've laughed, we've cried, most of us have created bonds with people in this server that wouldn't exist otherwise. We've shared late night thoughts with the extremely early risers on the other side of the world and vice-versa. We've sat together in the uncertainty of these times even while miles apart, and this server, this community has grown because of you. So we want to take this moment of change to celebrate you all, celebrate us all. Thank you for giving us so much and to whatever comes next: know we all walked so much better because of your company, because of everything you gave, and because of the friendships we forged here: The CRTranslate inn will welcome you all for as long as you want to stay.
All our love, CRTranslate staff.

Too late to write it once in english, it is a corrected Google transaltion, english grammar can be fictional in some points. Don’t be cruel and do not laugh at me too much.
**** Advertising Review ***** A few days ago I saw a promotion of Saal Digital Fotoservice GmbH for which they gave me a bonus of € 50 in the printing of a personalized wall decor if I make a sincere review of their product on their website. First, they made an evaluation of your work in your blog, and if they seemed good enough for them, they gave you the bonus because they want the opinion of people really interested in photography. I made the review and forgive the matter. Then, I started receiving emails from this company, which I did not pay attention, thinking that they had not seen my review on their website, until I realized that what they asked me to do was to make a public review on my blog. I reviewed the advertisment, and that’s the way it is, I did not notice enough … It seems that more than the opinion of an amateur photographer, they were looking for the advertising diffusion of some people with many followers … as if I were an influencer. In any case, it seems to me that the most correct thing is to warn you that this post is for a promotional act.
So, I sorry for spamming my dear human followers (what you think bot-followers  I do not care), but there goes the sincere review to which I committed: Software ok, printing ok, the colors are what they have to be, the material seems resistant and the hangers fulfil their heroic function. Marketing management of the company: 0

Be Inspired and Inspire Back
“Inspiration is the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something".
Tumblr media
I started questioning about where to find inspiration and how to consequently inspire other people when I had to start delivering “impacts” on a daily basis for my company. At first I thought it would have been easy because our mind is an amazing tool able to process thousands information every single day. But happens if we leave these notions in a corner of our brain? We will never turn them into Inspiration. So, how do we turn information into inspiration?
It is a common belief that inspiration is manly required in creative areas of expertise: stylists, designers, writers, photographers, painters, actors. Believe me, that’s not absolutely true.
Inspiration is fundamental for everyone and it resides in the daily little things; You could be inspired by a song, an advert, a tv show, a landscape. You could either be stimulated by successful things you have profitably accomplished in the past, by the war tales of your Grandparents or even more easily by your family and friends success.
I want to tell you a story that inspired me and made me realised how with the right mindset everything is possible.
I know a guy, a triathlet. He tried to succeed in one of the hardest Triathlon in the world for five years in a row; but despite all the training he never did. Then two months ago one day he suddenly called me and told me:”I finally did it” and my answer couldn’t be more spontaneous “What did you do differently?” “I was there with my mind” he ansewered. His story inspired me deeply and I realised that we don’t have to find inspiration only in examples of successful business people or huge companies, inspiration comes from our everyday life.
Once I found my way to be inspired by people, locations, facts another issue came to my attention: we all are different and we are not inspired by the same things in the same way. So, how do we inspire other people? By explaining things in a simple and concise way, providing examples based from our everyday life, letting them explain us back what we have just shared with them.
It is not the message you deliver, but is the “how” you deliver it that make it powerful.
Now that have found our inspiration, how do we transalte it into motivation/action?

                                                   Who Am I?
#rksept17eval
30th September at Seocho Training Facility
hover for transaltion
During the special camp plus extra independent study, she learned about hip-hop style and how to be a professional rapper. Minhee was actually surprised about it as she thought hip-hop was about being all ‘swag’ or confident but she discovered rap music is like poetry along beautiful melody. It doesn’t have to be all about ‘i’m the best this or top madam’  but there is soften side to it. It was the chance for the artist to reveal how they felt deep inside telling their own story in their words without no fear.
This was a type of music, she connected with and fell in love with other than other bouncing gangsta music. Minhee has always reserved person when comes to own feelings, always smiling when she’s in pain, the typical person who rather not spill their darkest secrets and thought to anyone except the closest person in their lives.
The song which she picked, Minhee felt the words truly spoke her and pulled on her heartstrings. She spent practicing this rap even with guiding the hand of Luna who really knows about this and the perfect mentor for this occasion. A part of her felt guilty she couldn’t really others in their endeavors as she is not really specialized in singing, rapping or dancing. At least she had more time to focus on rapping alone from other trainees. Minhee kept stumbling over the words which frustrated the young woman yet she kept going working on the part she kept messing up. Hopefully, practice will make perfect.
“Joo Minhee...Please enter the practice room..”
This was it, time to see if hard work paid off.
The auburn haired woman stepped into the practice room waving, bowing at the trainers who would be evaluating her wearing casual blue hoodie with track pants like she came out from working out at a gym. Minhee hood ends up over her head after bowing at the last person then grabbed the microphone feeling the nerves getting to her. She took a deep breath, in all honesty, she didn’t sleep well last time and running on low energy but nonetheless, she need gather her strength for this performance, it wasn’t long one only one minute, twenty-seven seconds.
Piano keys start to play, she licked her lips putting the microphone towards her lips, listening to the beautiful melody playing in the background while tapping her foot to the beat. Minhee part her lips softly began to speak along the melody with her eyes straight, telling her story straight from her heart yet end up mumbling the last line making no sense due to the nerves.
처음 여기서 걸음마를 뗐어 세상이란 큰 숲 가시 가득해서 인생이 순탄할 것만 같았던 내 생각은 오래 쓰다 짧아진 몽당연필 같았어
Right in the beginning, she makes a mistake yet she soldier on continuing on with the rap trying her best to keep the flow going despite making the error during the song. Minhee determination kicks in to make it right, as rap the words of the song which she understood due to girls being jealous of her back in middle school for stupid petty reasons causing her pick a high school farther away from where she lived at the time. Thankfully, she got to meet her friends for life there so did not regret that at all.
내게 주어진 가장 좋은 기회 모두들 부러워할 때 난 한숨을 쉬네 두려움과 무서움 속 난 발버둥을 쳐대 날 좀 도와달라고 허공에 소리쳐대네
Remember to take deep breaths so she could able to keep going in nice steady rhythm as the story unfolds in front of her eyes. Minhee knows she has changed maybe not for the good which somewhat scares her, she felt she losing touch who she is inside. Does she really want to be an idol? Is she happy being a trainee?? is the right path for her?? Fate brought her to this company and now she on a winding path trying to find her feet as an artist. The words come out full of her heart as these were the questions she kept asking herself too. What will do her? What can she bring this company?? What makes her different than others here? Is it cause she got a pretty face? She wants to more than that yet she felt lost not knowing what to do.
난 너무 일찍 깨달았지 누구 변하는 게 세상이지 나도 그럴까봐 겁이 나지 모두가 변해도 I wanna be me 거울 보면 나도 날 잘 몰라서 내게 물어봐 지금 네 인생에 만족한가 내가 잘 하고 있나 지금 이 길이 맞나? 수천 수백 번 생각해 난 뭘 하는 걸까?
After she finish leaving her soul bare by revealing her deepest thoughts in these lyrics, Minhee gently close the end of the performance by soft vocal singing the big question  on what she wants to be answered and try figure out herself then bows after the performance sincerely then walks out of the room hoping they didn’t mind the little bit of singing at the end as the task was focus on weakest skill which was rapping.
Who am I Who am I – I – 나도 아직 날 잘 몰라
Minhee left a weight lifted off her chance and somewhat satisfying despite making a mistake but she’s not a robot even though she wishes she was at times but she’s only human being after. Most of her friends figure out on what artist they want to be but Minhee is still lost puppy.

Streetsies 2018: Pro-Car NIMBY of the Year
The coveted Streetsie.
Anti-bike NIMBYs — a tale as old as time.
NIMBYs — shorthand for “Not in My Backyard” — have reared their ugly heads in each of the 12 years since Streetsblog launched. The days of fighting for feet of space on Prospect Park West may be over, but as the city brings things like bus lanes and bike lanes to new neighborhoods, new NIMBYs are a perennial obstacle.
Even with the city adding more than 20 miles of protected* bike lanes per year and support for those bike lanes surging, 2018 was a marquee year to fight that things that, in the words of former Streetsblog Editor in Chief Ben Fried, “make cities tick.”
For most of those car-owning NIMBYs, making streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists, and faster for scores of bus riders, isn’t worth losing a few parking spots per block. Avoiding L train gridlock Armageddon isn’t worth
With that, here are the nominees for the 2018 Streetsie for “NIMBY of the Year.”
‘Queens Streets for All’ — Sunnyside’s Parking Protectors
To understand the motivation behind “Queens Streets for All,” the Orwellian organization formed by Sunnyside business and community leaders to fight protected bike lanes on 43rd and Skillman avenues, one need look no further than the clever way their message changed over time:
The anti-bike lane messaging evolved over time to mask its true priority: 116 parking spots. Image: Macartney Morris
That’s right, even as they claimed the bike lanes would herald total retail collapse in the neighborhood, opponents were only ever concerned with one thing: unrestricted, free curbside access.
All bike advocates and the DOT wanted was a safe cycling connection between Queens Boulevard and points west. In response, bike lane opponents inundated them with vitriol: online comments and Facebook forums filled with thinly veiled homophobic attacks on TransAlt Queens Chairman Macartney Morris and Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, who online critics claimed was only pushing the bike lanes to please his husband, a former TransAlt board member; repeated assertions that Gelacio Reyes, whose death spurred calls for the bike lanes, caused his own death at the hands of a drunk driver; discounting all bike lane supporters as “outsiders”; and below-the-belt tactics like demanding pro-bike lane-fliers be prohibited from community meetings yet allowing anti-bike lane-fliers to proliferate.
In the end, opponents found a champion in Rep. Joe Crowley — but the mayor defied him and the community board, and decided to install the project anyway. A few weeks later, Crowley was defeated at the polls (just a coincidence?).
Still, the vitriolic rhetoric made for unfortunate outcomes: Even after their defeat, opponents of the bike lane continued to disseminate falsehoods about a supposed increase in pedestrian injuries, a rash of business closures, and debunked concerns that emergency vehicles were being impeded by the bike lanes. And then in November, following a suggestion made earlier in the year in the comments on a Sunnyside Post article, someone (police have not found the culprit) tossed thumb tacks along the bike lane on 43rd Avenue.
It was a potentially deadly politically motivated attack on innocent civilians — which some likened to terrorism.
That’s a lot of excitement for one nominee — defiant pro-car NIMBYs, a congressman defeated, an attack on innocent cyclists, angry business owners and a bold mayor. Hard to beat that for the Streetsie, but other nominees have a lot going for them, too.
NEW BIKE LANES! Right in front of the apt! Thank you @JimmyVanBramer ! Also in chalk someone rode RIP, JVB??? Weird…whatever it will rain ?? today and be gone!@TransAlt @Streetfilms @juaninQNS pic.twitter.com/uDar7RbbVs
— Kyle Carscaden (@velo53x11) August 31, 2018
Arthur Schwartz and the 14th Street Coalition
If you ask lawyer Arthur Schwartz and his allies in the West Village, their quixotic campaign against DOT’s plan to improve bus and bike priority on 14th Street and 13th Street ahead of next year’s L train shutdown could be equated to Jane Jacobs’s legendary — and ultimately victorious — effort to stop Robert Moses from building an expressway through Soho.
Schwartz’s repeated attempts to use public meetings to stir up drama all fell flat. At one meeting, he called DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg a liar to her face — which earned a sharp and immediate rebuke from City Council Speaker Corey Johnson. At another, he made sure he was the last person to speak, which meant he unloaded an impassioned and fiery diatribe to a mostly empty room.
In reality, Schwartz and company have done little more than create a seemingly endless stream of headaches for DOT and MTA bureaucrats tasked with managing what is essentially a 15-month long natural disaster. Through multiple lawsuits, they’ve yet to stop the project — but they’ve managed to scare DOT from pursuing more ambitious transit and bike-priority street designs.
Simply put, the busway and bike lanes are the only thing standing in between the city and gridlock Armageddon. Without them, L train riders who can afford to do so will opt for taxis — and the folks in 14th Street Coalition will be even worse off.
Tony Avella and Queens Community Board 11
Photo: NY Senate
DOT installed a protected bike lane on an Eastern Queens segment of Northern Boulevard in 2017, but opponents haven’t given up their fight to get it removed.
For a year and half, Community Board 11 leadership has been fighting to replace the bike lane with a costly and insufficient sidewalk-grade pathway. Whereas DOT’s bike lane replaced a car lane as a means of slowing traffic, opponents deny that speeding is a problem at all. In June, opponents rallied where they brandished catchy signs such as, “Honk if You Support the Community Board 11 Bike Lane Plan” and “We Want Common Sense Vehicular Traffic Patterns.”
Opponents were supported by a few elected officials, including State Senator Tony Avella, who personally organized and attended rallies supporting the bike lane’s removal. In his September primary, Avella was squarely defeated by former city Comptroller John Liu — self-professed cyclist and supporter of bike lanes.
The bike lane has been in for over a year at this point — maybe 2019 will finally be the year opponents accept that.
Manhattan Community Board 9’s Carolyn Thompson
Thompson has been in the fighting bike lanes business for nearly three decades in Morningside Heights, as the former chairwoman of Community Board 9 and the current chairwoman of the board’s transportation committee.
For 21 months, Thompson has stalled a committee vote on DOT’s relatively timid traffic-calming redesign of Amsterdam Avenue above 110th Street. To slow traffic on the deadly corridor, the design repurposes a travel lane in each direction for unprotected bike lanes, painted medians, and turn lanes.
All the while, Thompson stubbornly refuses to entertain the project. Even though the turn lanes would actually speed up traffic, Thompson refuses to accept that.
“All it’s going to do is slow traffic down,” she told Streetsblog in October. “Every time you say you’re taking out a lane, you’re slowing traffic down. I don’t care what they’re saying, it slows traffic down.” (Fact check: It does not.)
And the winner is…
Queens Streets for All, for its brilliantly Orwellian name and vitriol so unabashed that it apparently inspired a terrorist.

Translating Hindi into any language will definitely be a challenge for anyone. This is because, India happens to have some of the richest and among the most diverse of literature in the world. As if that’s not enough, its culture is very unique and somewhat conservative. This means that special care has to be taken, not to incorrectly translate or misappropriate certain meanings of words. Furthermore, some of the practices of the modern world are still considered a taboo in the Indian culture. This would make it even harder for a person who is tasked with translating something without making it sound offensive. The following are examples of translation challenges. How the challenges can be handled?
To every problem there is always a solution. Even though India has become modern and is keeping the pace with the rest of the world, more could be done to overcome the language barrier. One of these things is technology. It has been estimated, that by the end of 2017, 500 million Indians will be using the internet. This should be taken as a window, through which the translation challenges can be handled. Some more technological solutions are;
Getting search engines to have speech identification search available.
There should be processors that are smart language enabled.
Machine translation is also a viable option.
Search engines should make multi-lingual content available.
Conclusion
In order to get to a point where translation is even slightly less challenging, a lot of effort needs to be put into it. However, this will not completely go away. Sitting on a table with 40 other women on one gossip filled lunch session, I realized that not one of us was speaking in pure English. Since I work in a translation company, this made me very inquisitive and I tuned in my ears to the various conversations around me.
