And I really think with arcane in general a lot of its themes are foundationally rooted in queerness.

Self-actualization, choosing your own name and path, cobbling together a new family among the ashes of your old ties, rebirth and transhumanism, perpetuating the cycle of hate and finally breaking free from it, a near spirituality rooted in the pursuit of love and acceptance (in all forms)

Viktor and Jayce (and Skye hiiii) are just the most blatantly metaphysical and religiously allegorical example. The more I think about it the more I can only read Jinx as trans, at the very least her character arc is a trans one.

Not to mention the enforcer and criminalized dynamic with cait and vi. The one who was able to conform and ends up perpetuating harm bc of her position in the system. Meeting the one who is immediately identified as Other by the system and its privileged who punish her for it.

So there isn't much to why I think this, besides the fact I think it would be interesting to her character. I think the idea of Cait being trans brings some interesting ideas about her life.

I also think it's weird that some people say you need a reason shown in said media to head-cannon something like Transness. This specific idea, in my experience, has only been used towards people headcannoning trans women. It's always used in a hateful way, trying to discredit a head-cannon. I like headcannoning transness as a trans person myself (Demiboy he/they). (Sorry for going on a rant about non arcane related things/getting a bit controversial there. is this controversial? Idk? I would hope not.)

In the end, I wanted to share my head-cannon of caitlyn being trans cause I don't see it much, but I want to.

I just finished Arcane

SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT

I have spent the last 20 minutes laying on my bed and visibly shaking and violently sobbing.

Did anyone else have a visceral and physical reaction to watching that finale?

I don't even know where to begin I'm kinda just writing whatever comes to my mind first (which is kinda hard because my hands are shaking)

That...I was all over the place whilst watching that ending. I mean I couldn't tell who was dead, who was alive. I couldn't even tell who the fuck was winning at some points.

I loved the alternate realities. The dramatic juxtaposition between the two realities and their original onces was insane.

Ekko's life with Jinx and them building the machine it took Jayce and Viktor fucking years to build and making it even better?! LIke how the fuck did they do that?!?1

And then...how Vi died in that universe and Jinx had a bit of her hair in her own Thor and Loki style was...it hurt my heart

AND FUCKING POWDER AND EKKO. My god everyone was winning with their ships today. I ship it so much I fucking love them

And then Jayce falling down that fucking ravine and then having to bUILD THE SAME FUCKING LEG BRACE VIKTOR HAD

LIKE CMON DO YOU WANT TO DIE OF HEART FAILURE?!?!?

I mean did he help Viktor make a new brace?! Or did he study the notes Viktor had on his own leg brace and commit them to memory? LIKE HOW IN THE NAME OF FUCK did he remember how to build that because it was almost exactly the same.

And then fucking climb out of that ravine and then all the way to the top of the academy

AND I FUCKING KNEW THAT MAGE GUY WAS VIKTOR FROM SEASON 1 I FUCKING KNEW IT

And everything made sense in the end. Like the writers did so well at tying up every important loose end. Every character had an answer of some sort and every plot point linked up again

I want to marry the entire crew.

But the fact that Jayce kept fighting for Viktor. I hated how he smashed Viktor in episode 4 (and not in the way I would have liked, if you catch my drift)

But it made sense in the end.

And the fact that he saved Viktor, how gay could these two get seriously. Honestly if anyone want's to might me that Jayvik isn't canon come and get me. Because that is a confession if I have ever seen one and I will fucking fight anyone who agrees otherwise. You people are blind

I have so much to write and draw about now. I was working on an OC of mine and now I have so many one-shots I want to write. I almost don't want to do any canon divergence or AUs because it is so good with how it is. Honestly I think this is the only peice of media I have no descrepincies with.

There was just a very big cait scene in episode two. I’m open to listening for you to vent. I’m sorry

I, uhm, feel about as good as you might expect. So not very good. I think it will take me at least a little while before I finish Arcane. I spoiled myself. On purpose, and out of self-preservation. I knew this was coming, I did, but I didn't want to think about it. Infact I distinctly avoided thinking about it at all costs. I can say, without getting into detail, that I do have a headcanon regarding a major boundary I have around intimacy (as a largely sex repulsed asexual) that was not contradicted. I had a bit of a moment where I was really scared that they would contradict it. Just another one of those 'Vi would never love you over Caitlyn'. That is, the only good thing I could possibly conjure from this situation. I knew it was a terrible idea to selfship with Vi from the start. I couldn't help it really, I wish I could. I've shed a fair share of tears over him. Which is stuped. I knew this would happen. I just hope, that they found a way to make the relationship healthier. I still feel really terrible at the position exactly two leaves them in. Just want Vi to be treated like a person, and Caitlyn hasn't done that too often. I won't ever recover from her hitting him. I'm starting to feel my entire selfship is meaningless, and really rather stuped. Down to trans masc Vi. I knew it was stuped from the start, my inserts lore doesn't even make sense.

I'm sorry I'm not going to edit this so there is probably mistakes. I'm just going to cry a little, and hope they pulled Caitlyn to her senses and started treating Vi like a person. Since he wouldn’t choose me. I hope he's at least happy and fulfilled, and being treated with dignity. It was stuped from the beginning.

It kinda pisses me off how everyone's talking about how this is "the golden age of queer reprsentation" or whatever, and everyone talks about how many queer shows, (and movies if you count Red white and royal blue) are popular right now. But it's only really mlm representation or mlm centric content. Like Heartstopper, Interview with a vampire, Our flag means death, Good Omens, and Young Royals are all mlm centric shows, and sapphic shows usually either get canceled or they never reach the kind of popularity. I think the only one I can think of is Arcane and I think that's because it's got so many other moving parts that are so fantastic snd interesting that even the straights love it. And Cait and Vi's relationship isn't really overt yet, so to speak.

And the thing is we all know why this is happening. We all know what this is about. Or at least I thought we did. But when you bring this up you often get people being like, "oh stop causing conflict between wlw and mlm!" Or "stop trying to pit queer people against each other!" Like.... no I'm not doing that, I'm pointing out that misogyny and lesbophobia exist.

Honestly I am literally begging queer men to care about sapphics for once. Like please acknowledge that misogyny exists and we are affected by it. Please acknowledge that the way we are percieved and treated is different from you because we experience the intersection of homophobia and misogyny.

Sorry for ranting. I'm just so tired.

Well it’s undeniable that queer representation has gotten better over the years, we are nowhere near in the golden age of queer representation! Where are the lesbians, the trans/non-binary characters, the poly characters?

And yes we have shows like Yellowjackets and Arcane who have main character lesbian rep and haven’t been canceled and are quite popular, they still haven’t reached the levels of popularity of mlm shows.

I’m very happy for my mlm friends for finally getting the representation they deserve! I am only hoping that wlw can see that kind of representation for themselves.

Fandom culture is a different kind of drug.

A girl in my art class mentioned Powder from Arcane while we had a down period and I started talking to her about our favourite characters (her top 3 is Jinx, Vi Cait and she stopped talking when I said my 3rd favourite is Jayce). Then she told me about how her father left her when she was 3 months old, and I showed her a gender euphoria selfie. She said I look like a dude and made a joke about me potentially being trans. And I, after having only talked to her maybe 5 times - all in class, came out to her as FtM.

TLDR: Jinx made me come out to a random girl I barely know

A non-comprehensive Vi ramble post about my Vi’s gender expression. (Tagging with Arcane spoilers due to Season 2 ep 5 discussion.) 

What I’m flip flopping on is whether or not Vi is a trans man or is trans masc. Yes, Vi is still a lesbian, in this house we don’t deal on exclusionist terms yada yada. The reason I’m debating it is because I think he’d still let Jinx call him sister as reluctantly as he lets Jinx call him that anyway. I don’t think he’d ask Jinx to call him her brother. He also Maybe in a similar way to Jinx still being his sister, even though Powder is the original and Powder doesn’t exist in the same way anymore.

My thing with Vi being trans masc is that it’s y’know, masculine, and I think that Vi doesn’t really care about using solely masculine terms. Sister, daughter, etc. But for anyone else they can call him brother or sister if they knew him in the before times; things like boyfriend are preferred over girlfriend, but I don’t think he really minds. Vi’s a bit of a he-she lesbian, looking both masculine but still being connected to his feminine identity for his sexuality and his birth gender. It’s not something he ignores.

I think my understanding of that kind of terminology definitely influences the way that Vi thinks about it because I wouldn’t know how Vi-canon or Fortiche’s storytellers would think about Vi being trans, but for now “trans man lesbian” definitely works for Vi. He/him pronouns. I think Vi probably lands directly in the smack middle of trans man and butch lesbian, so he’s a little bit of both ends. 

Will post more about this but just general thinking about genderness and gender nonconformity for Vi in general. Being that pit fighter definitely changed something in him, but he definitely asked Cait (if canon-verse) during s1 to call him boyfriend too.

Books:

Delusions of Gender: How Our Minds, Society, and Neurosexism Create Difference by Cordelia Fine - A thorough and well-researched book on how society shapes our understanding of male and female, and how the view of biological differences in our brains/minds is flawed. This book would have benefited from a trans and non-binary perspective to add additional layers (there are a couple brief mentions of trans people), but it still has a lot of interesting things to say and claims to debunk about gender differences so I liked it.

Devotions: The Selected Poems of Mary Oliver by Mary Oliver - A collection pulling together more than 5 decades worth of Mary Oliver poetry. The way she writes about nature and humanity and life resonates deeply with me. 

Die Vol. 1: Fantasy Heartbreaker by Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans - gorgeous + stunning dark fantasy comic, i am attached to these characters and excited to see where they go. great start

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree - a warm and cozy fantasy. It’s not my usual fare but I enjoyed it a lot for its descriptions of food (I want everything Thimble made), sapphic romance, and warm community feelings.

The Nutmeg’s Curse: Parables for a Planet in Crisis by Amitav Ghosh - This is a very erudite book on how the extractive and exploitative philosophy of colonialism has led to our current climate crisis (among other crises). It’s also a powerful book as Ghosh challenges Western ideas and calls for a return to vitalist forms of thinking. Really good.

The Thirty Names of Night by Zeyn Joukhadar  - A beautiful book about a Syrian American trans man working through his identity and body, and discovering the history of his family and homeland through a queer woman’s journal. Richly detailed, lots of bird imagery, I’m a fan.

What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher - I loved this book. It’s got an unsettling atmosphere, fungi, delightful characters, a slow and creeping build. And the writing manages to be funny. All-around excellent book.

The World We Make by N. K. Jemisin - Excellent follow-up to the first book. I love these characters and I love the world-building and themes.

Victory of Eagles by Naomi Novik - I’m loving the Temeraire books more and more. Really enjoyed the character work in this one and how it explored the consequences of their actions, not to mention all the politics.

Fic (Arcane):

Saltwater by Ollie_Ollie_Oxenfree (Cait/Vi, WIP): "'Oil and water'...and what? She's the oil?" Ekko laughed. "Bullshit. She's salt. Stir her up and she'll melt right into you." [Immediately following the end of Arcane Ep 9. As the cities descend into war, Caitlyn and Vi seek refuge, grappling with the aftermath.] [I don’t normally rec WIPs but this fic is SO GOOD! The nuance it explores with Caitlyn and Vi both in their personal struggles and in their relationship is just incredible. And I really like the writing, the way the dialogue flows and crackles, it’s beautiful fic. Mind all the warnings tho.]

Trans Arcane Week - Day 2: Family

Arcane has a rich vein of father-daughter relationships to explore, but with muttonchops like that, Tobias unquestionably has the best shaving game. And he definitely seems like the kind of dad who would notice how intently his kid watches him shaving in the mornings, and wouldn’t hesitate to include them in the process. (He’s a responsible parent, though, so Cait’s gonna have to master the safety razor before moving onto the straight.)

Op ur MIND !!! Im so utterly in love with Viktor so tbh if Viktor is involved... I'll write anything.

Let's get out of the way and say Viktor could care less about what or how you identify. He's in love with you, your person, your mind, your thoughts and opinions.

You coming out to him, I'm going to be honest he's not surprised!! He notices before how certain types of clothes make you shift uncomfortably, or how when your name is called in a specific way there's a disconnect. Or how you stare at certain people, not in the same way you stare at him, there's something different.

"okay, well... What do you want to do now?" Man's a scientist. A problem solver. However you wish to transition whether it's simply name change or surgery (I mean it is piltover) he's going to try his best to make it as stress less as possible.

Would go out of his way to buy you clothing that makes you feel more comfortable.

It's very easy for him to adapt to using your pronouns/anything you decide to use

If you do decide to go by a new name he uses it a lot more often. Again I mentioned he noticed before how uncomfortable specific things made you, if one of them was your name he'd avoid using it. Much preferring to use 'my love' or "darling".

Is so affirming with little things, if you're transfemme changes things like opening doors for you, or if you're transmasc might teach you how to shave (even if you don't have hair, I mean look at him)

All in all the way he loves and cherishes you does not change in the slightest. He's still head over heels for you, he's a scientist. He understands these things. Maybe not fully and as complex as you or others but he understands it in the way he needs too.

I read in terms of Cait and Vis relationship/sexuality things like sexuality, gender, and identity are not something that is debated, looked down on, or even considered different. So trans rights and how the general society stance is very different. :) Idk fun fact !!!
